10:22 cambazz i want to do robot localization, but i dont have access to a laser scanner.
10:30 SpeedEvil A large lump of concrete.
10:31 SpeedEvil To be less unhelpful, but not really, there is no generic solution.
10:31 SpeedEvil Cheap, low-power, easy-to-use, reliable, accurate.
10:31 SpeedEvil Pick two.
10:31 SpeedEvil What are you trying to make
10:59 deshipu cambazz: you could just have encoders on the wheels and hope that it doesn't slip too much
10:59 deshipu cambazz: then you know your relative position from your starting point
10:59 deshipu cambazz: another approach is to have a webcam on the ceiling and a marker on the robot
11:19 cambazz well i just have a rover with pid motor controllers and i made an api to set motors with desired speeds and also tell them to turn n counts
11:19 cambazz all this with a tm4c123g w/ energia and a raspberry pi
11:20 cambazz marker in the ceiling is a nice solution
11:20 deshipu it's quite accurate
11:22 cambazz one could put number of markers and put them in some sort of adjacency data structure and then robot can nav
11:22 cambazz is there readily avail code for that like how would i do it with raspberry
11:23 deshipu yes, opencv and ros
11:23 deshipu opencv is for general image understanding stuff
11:24 deshipu ros is a set of tools that will most likely have something like this already implemented
11:32 cambazz i hope they got a raspberry pi package
11:38 deshipu I think they do
11:50 rue_house willl opencv find circles in an image?
11:51 ace4016 yes
11:51 ace4016 it has built in shape recognition iirc
11:51 ace4016 or did back in 2007-2008 time frame when i made my vision system
11:52 rue_house can it tell me if the circle is basically filled in yellow?
11:56 ace4016 yup
11:56 ace4016 you'll most likely want to use a lighting invariant color space though
11:56 rue_house can it tell me how big the circle is?
11:57 deshipu not from 2d image
11:57 ace4016 it can tell you the "mass" from a 2d image
11:57 ace4016 that's about it
11:57 deshipu unless you know how far it is
11:57 rue_house yes, but can it tell me the 2d size
11:57 veverak yeah
11:57 rue_house well ok then
13:42 Hyratel GUYS. DIY WORBLA http://hyratel.tumblr.com/post/122013205552/yaexrae-ninzo-a-daks-aicosu
13:45 ace4016 interesting. i should send that to a coworker that does that a lot
13:50 Hyratel it is rather time consuming
14:01 ace4016 yea, most of that stuff is if you don't have industrial equipment
14:01 ace4016 :P
14:02 deshipu Hyratel: nice!
14:02 Hyratel 70% materials cost savings for DIY
14:03 SpeedEvil Or just say screwit and use fibreglass
14:03 ace4016 lol
14:03 deshipu I still need to get some polymorph and experiment with it
14:04 SpeedEvil http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/
14:04 SpeedEvil http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/acatalog/220kg-Barrel-General-Purpose-Resin-RGPE30_220.html
14:06 Hyratel deshipu, it's "just" PCL plastic
14:09 deshipu Hyratel: yeah, but I never had a chance
14:09 deshipu Hyratel: ordered 250g, will see
14:09 Hyratel no i mean
14:10 Hyratel buy PCL pellets Cheap From China instead of paying brand premiums
14:10 deshipu that's what I did, of course
14:10 Hyratel mmk
14:11 deshipu <3 China
14:11 veverak :)
22:57 armyofevilrobots @rue_shop3 : Yes, filament extruder. Sorry for lag, just got back from Atlanta.
23:09 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, aha! there you are
23:09 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, your only about 3 weeks behind your messages :)
23:09 rue_shop3 how was atlantas
23:13 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, I'v learned that all the ABS+PC I been ditching is the latest craze in filament
23:13 rue_shop3 so it seems
23:22 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, due to a recent HaD article I was looking up 'pug mills'
