00:29 Jak_o_Shadows because apart from the bed vibrations
00:29 Jak_o_Shadows things are beautiful
00:56 zhanx Looking for a sbc that is cheap and not raspberry pi, ideas?
01:04 jason__ why not a raspberry pi?
01:04 zhanx Too slow
01:04 zhanx Need some graphics
01:05 Jak_o_Shadows I would normally go towards a beaglebone black.
01:05 Jak_o_Shadows but lie, could you get away with a fgpa of some kind?
01:05 joga you want cheap *and* graphics *and* sbc?
01:05 zhanx Hear that but I have no computer right now etc...
01:05 joga good luck!
01:07 joga an rpi does play video quite fine though, but I don't know if there are any sbc available that have "some graphics" you might want
01:08 joga judging by specs alone I could probably use an rpi2 as a daily desktop system
01:09 jason__ I had a friend recommend an ODROID to me, but I never tried it. It's a bit beefier than a raspberry pi 2 (but costs like twice as much).
01:10 zhanx Just got that recommend
01:53 rue_shop3 !?!?!? my heater driver has 0V comming out of it, but theres 6.25V at the head!?
01:54 zhanx Transformer
02:03 rue_shop3 driver ==========load
02:03 rue_shop3 ^ 0V ^6.25V
02:03 rue_shop3 its actaully bundled with some other lines, I'll look for a short
02:06 rue_shop3 I'd left the sleep line floating on the drivers, that might have been my issue
02:06 rue_shop3 with the sheering
02:07 rue_shop3 nope, according to this its got a pullup
02:07 rue_shop3 enable? hmm its got a pulldown
02:08 rue_shop3 ugh, this thing is playing with me
02:08 rue_shop3 its randomly deciding to work ok
02:23 Jak_o_Shadows I'm getting a sorta weird banding Ithink
02:39 orlock rue: i kept dropping my esteps
02:39 orlock could not get a .4mm wall
02:39 orlock decided i must actually have a .5mm nozzle
03:47 rue_house did you measure a raw extruded string?
03:47 rue_house it should be a bit larger than the nozzel you have
03:48 orlock yeah
03:48 orlock no matter what i could not get it down to a .4mm wall
03:48 orlock supposedly a .4mm nozzle
04:14 rue_shop3 ... fet driver failure for the heater
04:14 rue_shop3 it intermittently stopped turning the heater all the way off
04:15 rue_shop3 the gate is supposed to be 0 or 12V, it was sitting at 5.6
04:16 rue_shop3 I designed the driver, I'm gonna be intersted to look into that one
04:32 malinus if my pcb house wants .GML outline file extension, and my software(kicad), generates .gbr , can I just assume that it's safe to renmae the extensions? Or can the file formats be different?
08:00 bindigoat We will be sending robotic spacecraft to approx 1000 planets & moons, these robotic spacecraft will create habitats for plants, animals & people
08:07 theBear bullshit ! which we ?
08:08 theBear and by robotic spacecraft, i assume you mean kinda like "Transformers" which as we all know are "more than meets the eye !"
08:08 theBear which is to say, we don't say human-cars or human-boats, or even cow boats, tho we do say sheep trucks, and they are not a truck made of a sheep
08:09 bindigoat you should read the book "how robotic spacecraft explore the solar system"
08:11 bindigoat robotics needs to advance more yet though
08:13 orlock doesnt everything
08:14 rue_shop3 Tom_itx, here's a pcb project for you, I need some 2mm pitch protoboard :/
08:14 orlock hmm
08:14 orlock i think minimum wall thickness is dependant on layer height - would make sense
08:14 rue_shop3 IT DOSN'T EXIST... WHY!!!
08:14 Triffid_Hunter rue_shop3: try dirtypcbs or elecrow
08:15 orlock Triffid_Hunter: See my stupidity in #reprap?
08:15 orlock I've been omitting the space between M92 and E
08:15 orlock wondering why the fuck my calibrations wernt calibrating
08:15 Triffid_Hunter orlock: shouldn't need one
08:15 rue_shop3 my machine might be behaving for real this time
08:15 Triffid_Hunter orlock: if marlin doesn't accept that, you found a bug
08:15 orlock well my version of marlin - which is a few months old - does
08:16 orlock Now
08:16 orlock if i can get adhesion problems, aat a .2mm layer height
08:16 rue_shop3 why would you forget the space?
08:16 orlock afte rdropping esteps
08:16 Triffid_Hunter rue_shop3: because RS274 says to ignore spaces
08:16 rue_shop3 its 6am, I been up all night
08:17 rue_shop3 I suppose I need to make boards for these 2.5A stepper drivers...
08:17 rue_shop3 if I want to use them
08:19 orlock i got my esteps down to 325, started getting backpressure and adherence problems sort of
08:19 orlock but wall width never varies from .5
08:21 orlock now, how the hell does slicer do its path tracing
08:22 orlock i want to tell it "You are drawing a plastic bead .51mm thick, base your toolpath on that please"
08:22 rue_shop3 nozzel size
08:23 rue_shop3 printer settings -> extruder 1
08:23 Triffid_Hunter orlock: extrusion width is in advanced settings if you want to set it explicitly
08:23 Triffid_Hunter rue_shop3: no, the nozzle size should be left at the actual nozzle size so it can complain if you put silly numbers for layer height, and so it can do proper bridging math
08:24 rue_shop3 ah
08:25 Triffid_Hunter I change my extrusion width anywhere between 0.4 to 0.6 (0.35 nozzle) depending on the model
08:26 Triffid_Hunter 0.4 for fine detail like gears and suchforth, 0.6 for coarser stuff so it'll print faster
08:26 rue_shop3 where is that?
08:26 Triffid_Hunter rue_shop3: wanna see how quick my printer goes? http://youtu.be/xQNJgXV6KAQ
08:26 Triffid_Hunter rue_shop3: slic3r advanced settings. you may have to change it from simple to advanced mode in preferences first
08:27 rue_shop3 hah, I want to show someone up, but I have to get it to track right first
08:27 rue_shop3 today it cut a slot thru the tape in the shape of the perim, so I know its got lots of torque
08:27 rue_shop3 with the head
08:27 Triffid_Hunter probably melted a slot :P
08:28 rue_shop3 nope
08:28 rue_shop3 it was fast
08:29 rue_shop3 it carved out half the perim before I got to the power switch
08:30 rue_shop3 my slicer is 1.1.7, I dont think it has a 2nd control for trace width
08:31 Triffid_Hunter rue_shop3: it's been there since long before simple mode existed
08:32 rue_shop3 hmm
08:32 Triffid_Hunter rue_shop3: simple mode hides most of the settings, only exposes the basics
08:32 rue_shop3 I have it set to advanced
08:32 rue_shop3 I cant find another setting for trace size
08:32 rue_shop3 under printer settings?
08:32 orlock woo
08:32 orlock i got walls down to .4
08:33 orlock Triffid_Hunter: this is purely for path calculation? not extrusion, etc etc?
08:34 orlock anyway, yay
08:34 orlock also
08:34 rue_shop3 where is that setting?
08:34 orlock should layer height affect minimum path thickness?
08:34 Triffid_Hunter orlock: well for extrusion it calculates the volume of the path from width, height, length, subtracts a few percent since we can't extrude rectangles, then works out length given filament diameter
08:34 orlock BRB, inside now
08:35 Triffid_Hunter orlock: so extrusion width and layer height should be totally independent of one another, but they both necessarily affect the extruded volume
08:37 orlock Triffid_Hunter: ok
08:38 orlock so a .4mm nozzle should, in theory be able to extrude a .4mm thick line at .1 layer or .3 layer?
08:39 orlock i would have thought that for layers of 50% of nozzle thickness or lower it would "spread" out some fraction
08:40 orlock i will test
08:41 Triffid_Hunter orlock: yes
08:41 Triffid_Hunter orlock: it can only spread out if the slicer says to push too much plastic :P
08:41 orlock grr
08:41 orlock 1.2.6 keeps crashing
08:45 rue_house slicer?
08:45 orlock slic3r
08:45 orlock yeah
08:45 rue_house when you do what?
08:45 orlock got gcode out of it now
08:46 orlock intermittently - this time it was after i set single perimiters and 0.4 width and went to the plater
08:46 orlock previously any time i've loaded a stl
08:58 SquirrelCZECH hmmm
08:58 SquirrelCZECH I dunno
08:58 uirrelCZECH got problem with his lib
08:59 SquirrelCZECH or more like I have to decide about something ...
09:00 SquirrelCZECH I have this CAD library of mine, and it uses and is inspired by openscad...
09:01 SquirrelCZECH I found out that to work with relative and absolute system and same time is really handy, like i can access actual "coords", "rotation", "scale" of every object
09:02 SquirrelCZECH but I sitll got things like "translate()", "resize()", "rotate()" which are relative
09:02 SquirrelCZECH question is: Should I store absolute values and recalculate them everytime something relative is used (actual state)
09:03 SquirrelCZECH or should I store chain of applied relative modifications and calculate absolute ones from them when object is asked for them?
09:06 Triffid_Hunter SquirrelCZECH: definitely the latter
09:06 SquirrelCZECH Triffid_Hunter: and motivation for that is?
09:07 Triffid_Hunter SquirrelCZECH: more flexibility when moving stuff around
09:07 Triffid_Hunter just make sure your heirachy makes sense ;)
09:07 uirrelCZECH t
09:10 orlock fucking perfect
09:10 orlock .1 layers
09:10 orlock and wall thickness between .4 and .35 dependon on caliper pressure
14:10 rue_shop3 orlock, hopefully it wont be like mine and start randomly sheering parts 2 months down the road
14:10 rue_shop3 I got lucky on this last print and it shifted over, then back again
14:10 rue_shop3 everything I do fixes the problem for 1 or two test prints
18:14 myofevilrobots comes back to life
18:14 armyofevilrobots Wrote a gcode interpreter and basic motion control system from scratch.
18:14 armyofevilrobots Now for inkjet control integation.
21:13 ecstatcpessimist Any opinions on good places to get small 5V servos and geared down motors
21:14 Triffid_Hunter hobbyking is great for servos, not sure about gearmotors
21:20 armyofevilrobots Inkjet firmware written. Hardware and software on 3d powder printer complete. Mostly.
21:21 armyofevilrobots Some nasty stuff in the source, but it works.
21:21 wolfmanjm ecstatcpessimist: https://www.pololu.com/category/51/pololu-metal-gearmotors
21:22 deshipu ecstatcpessimist: china
21:22 deshipu ecstatcpessimist: aliexpress and the lika
21:22 deshipu like

21:29 ecstatcpessimist thanks yyall
22:05 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, er?
22:05 rue_shop3 what all did you implement
22:06 rue_shop3 G0, G1...
22:06 armyofevilrobots G0/G1, but it’s not really that kind of machine.
22:06 armyofevilrobots ie: M47 is “move along X axis putting down ink at one column per step”, and it’s interactive.
22:06 rue_shop3 ah
22:07 armyofevilrobots G92, G28, G0, M114, etc.
22:07 armyofevilrobots they all work, but movement is not feedrated.
22:07 rue_shop3 hmm
22:07 rue_shop3 I should work on a clocking library for my interpolator
22:08 rue_shop3 (the velocity and acceleration stuff is seperated)
22:08 armyofevilrobots It turns out those kinds of things are complicated. Doable, but why maintain code that is not important to the machinery.
22:08 armyofevilrobots I was gonna use grbl, but realized that it was easier to rewrite than port.
22:08 rue_shop3 I'm almost surprised its not possable to use a printer format of some sort
22:09 rue_shop3 ... like an old epson pin printer image format....
22:09 rue_shop3 thats documented in one of the epson manuals I have...
22:09 rue_shop3 anyhow
22:12 armyofevilrobots Probably, but the inkjet driver stuff I did on an arduino, so it was just easier that way.
22:12 armyofevilrobots Also, Arduino dev-env is a ghetto :P
22:13 rue_shop3 it might be amusing to send it as a pile of page prints to a standard printer interface
22:51 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, can I design an early object for you to try in your test print stage?
22:57 rue_shop3 I would like to know why the interpolation of E seems to be so crude
23:00 armyofevilrobots interpolation of E?
23:07 armyofevilrobots What firmware has the bad E interpolation?
23:10 rue_shop3 it looks like all the E steps are clumped to the start of the segment
23:10 rue_shop3 maybe I'm wrong, it is a bit fast to tell
23:11 rue_shop3 marlin
23:11 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, how long have you had your printer now? (the old one)
23:11 armyofevilrobots Hmm, about 4 years or so?
23:12 rue_shop3 how long would you say, during that time you have blatently wasted watching it print?
23:12 rue_shop3 I'm really high so far
23:13 armyofevilrobots Haha. I would say a full month.
23:14 rue_shop3 :)
23:14 rue_shop3 I have to get myself working on the new one
23:15 armyofevilrobots Yeah. I took a bit of a hiatus on building new stuff. Well back into the swing of things now.
23:18 armyofevilrobots Next after this powder printer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQq_Q9pNAX4
23:19 armyofevilrobots Although, I would prefer to build https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AScfESzQzIQ
23:20 rue_shop3 this clear filament is really clear
23:20 rue_shop3 arg I cant youtube on here
23:21 rue_shop3 I'll see later
23:21 armyofevilrobots http://images.thetruthaboutcars.com/2012/07/Circular-loom.jpg
23:23 rue_shop3 oh yea, I need an air muscle loom
23:24 rue_shop3 is that the same thing?
23:26 armyofevilrobots It would be, yeah.
23:29 rue_shop3 is there one designed yet?
23:29 rue_shop3 I wonder how many filmaents I need for them
23:33 armyofevilrobots None opensource yet. I was thinking on the topic though, and it isn’t that complex.
23:34 rue_shop3 about 46x3 for this one
23:34 rue_shop3 hmm 138 strands
23:34 e_shop3 scoops the pile into the gar
