01:04 orlock yup
01:04 orlock i finally have a few hours spare
01:05 orlock i have a functional basic/partial LX200 emulator
01:05 orlock Putting getting my printer to work with ABS on hold until i can get a 24v PSU
01:05 orlock which will wait until i have a new job
01:05 orlock I'm trying to design adjustable mounting rings now
01:06 orlock but i think i will start with the mounting bar first as thats easier
01:06 orlock Just about to go outside with calipers and take some measurements
08:35 bindigoat http://australiens.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=18374
09:27 rue_house orlock, you dont need a 24V power supply...
09:27 rue_house the problems are caused by things other than the motors
09:28 orlock 24v for heated bed
09:28 orlock the motors are fine
09:28 orlock my problem is ABS warpage
09:28 rue_house ah good
09:28 rue_house why 24V for bed?
09:28 rue_house why are you using a regulated dc source for a heater?
09:28 orlock otherwise i cant get it above 80
09:29 orlock i thought switchmode for power input to RAMPS was standard?
09:30 rue_house yes, its standard for everyone to use a 5% regulated dc power supply for a RESISTIVE HEATER
09:30 rue_house don't mean it makes any sense
09:30 orlock yeah
09:30 orlock so
09:30 orlock SSR then?
09:31 rue_house if you noticed, outdoor taps are also put at a hight that you always have to bend way over or kneel to, to do anything with
09:31 orlock actually
09:31 orlock ours isnt
09:31 orlock but thats because house is on a big slope, so we have concrete stumps sticking up to support the rear
09:31 orlock and the back garden tap is on one of them
09:32 rue_house I'm using a transformer and low side triac with opto isolation
09:32 rue_house so its mounted at or above 1m?
09:32 orlock yup!
09:32 rue_house must be the first
09:33 orlock its probably more common where houses are on hills
09:33 rue_house anyhow you get my drift ont eh heater supply
09:33 orlock yup
09:33 orlock got arduino/avr driven stepper driver outside taking pictures
09:33 orlock so i can make some comparisons between them and the factory stepper
09:34 orlock 10 min and 20 min
09:34 rue_house you finished the code eh?
09:34 orlock next time theres no moon and its clear i'll take some images of the SCP for you
09:34 orlock thats the only thing that will be visible in 6 months
09:35 orlock its workable enough code to let me script alignment routines
09:35 orlock from there, then i can mark points in the pavers i concreted in place
09:35 orlock and drill holes
09:35 orlock and then have a repeatable way to set up
09:36 rue_house leave it out and have a box that sets up around it
09:36 orlock nah
09:36 orlock SWMBO says no
09:36 orlock otherwise i'd have a pier rather than 3 pavers
09:37 orlock also, getting to know OpenSCAD
09:37 rue_house I design most of my things in qcad, and use openscad to extrude them
09:37 orlock designing brackets to mount a guidescope (baby telescope with webcam instead of eyepiece)
09:38 rue_house it makes the models compile a LOT faster
09:38 rue_house and its just easier
09:38 rue_house for most things
09:38 orlock cad software is one of those things i've never really "gotten"
09:38 orlock and i kinda like the idea behind openscad
09:38 orlock like, the UI's are all just.. eurgh
09:38 rue_house have a few mins?
09:39 orlock 13 minutes
09:39 orlock though - a guy in #astronomy said
09:39 orlock a better idea than the guidescope rings is making an X/Y plate
09:39 orlock the camera/sensor mounts on that
09:40 orlock and the plate sits at the back of the finderscope
09:40 orlock so instead of pointing the finder around
09:40 orlock the finder is fixed, and you move the sensor around the back of the scope
09:41 rue_house http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/mech/gearbox.tgz
09:41 rue_house quick unpack and opent hat
09:41 rue_house you can see how easy I made a gearbox
09:41 rue_house just for a laugh
09:42 orlock oh cheers
09:42 rue_house it works, I'v built one
09:43 orlock ahh nice
09:43 rue_house at the bottom you can comment out assembly and uncomment plate, it'll break it down into a printable orientation
09:43 orlock so i could make dxf files for things like captive nut holes?
09:44 rue_house sure, another halarious trick is to import stl's into your scad file
09:44 rue_house I did that for a screw thread that took forever to compile
09:44 rue_house the stl can be used for a difference to make a hole
09:44 orlock awesome
09:45 rue_house I'm noticing that my models take up a fraction of the plastic that most peoples models do
09:45 orlock i think my "ahah" moment in openscad was when i realised i could uncomment out the difference() functions
09:46 orlock uhh
09:46 orlock comment out, even
09:46 orlock then get to grips with thecoordinate changes, etc etc
09:46 rue_house yes, I usually put in things like hole cylinders as objects and then add the difference when I like where they are
09:46 orlock then set them to subtract again
09:46 orlock yup
09:47 rue_house I'v also used dxf outlines sideways to slice up parts
09:49 rue_house but my point is that all the complex parts are piled dxf extrustions
09:51 rue_house that was the first one I used colour in too
16:58 theBear https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFV_oKqW_Lk i knew rif was always a bit loose, but i gotta admit, i was surprised when i spotted this
16:58 theBear just between you and me, i think his beard looks kinda stupid :)
16:58 theBear lol, just noticed he got robot teeth like old jaws from that bond movie... i spose that bit makes some sense
20:40 rue_house hah
22:13 rue_shop3 orlock, well?
22:15 Tom_itx wow i haven't used eagle in a long time...
22:15 Tom_itx the rust was starting to form
22:16 rue_shop3 heh
22:16 rue_shop3 I'v not either
22:16 rue_shop3 no official schematics from rue
22:16 Tom_itx helping someone with a board that continues to change his mind is frustrating
22:17 rue_shop3 just stop and wait
22:17 Tom_itx i did
22:17 rue_shop3 give them a week
22:17 Tom_itx may take alot longer than that before i'm able to return to it anyway
22:17 rue_shop3 complex board?
22:18 Tom_itx no it's real simple
22:18 rue_shop3 heh
23:28 jason__ Anyone know a lot (or not even necessarily a lot) about gazebo? I'm looking for a good source for pre-built worlds for simulations. The ones it comes with are super basic.
