21:50 rue_house new idea for a pneumatic valve
21:50 rue_house one of the interesting thigns about surgical tubing, is that unlike a baloon, its grain is wrong to be able to expand mesh loom
21:51 zhanx Ok
21:52 rue_house I can use a solinoid to crimp the pipe closed
21:53 rue_house its rubber so it'll take that repeatedly
21:53 zhanx Till cold
21:53 rue_house and loom can be used to keep it from blimping
21:53 rue_house everything has its limits
21:54 zhanx Say 10000 cycles on it?
21:54 rue_house dunno
21:54 rue_house I wouldn't expect 1M
21:54 zhanx Test rig!
21:54 rue_house sounds like a good thing for a robot to count
21:54 rue_house beat be to it
21:55 rue_house so, should I use the solinoid to close the pipe, or to pry it open against a spring
21:55 zhanx I forgot one thing to start on my project. .. cable for the programmer :(
21:55 rue_house if I have the solinoid open it, I can balance the foces
21:55 rue_house rip the serial cable out of a PC
21:55 rue_house two of them, move the end over
21:56 zhanx Close. Natural shape will be deformed, spring inside ...
21:56 rue_house 10-20psi pushing it out
21:56 zhanx Flow with spring? It's a small tube
21:56 rue_house those air muscles sure the heck dont need much pressure
21:57 rue_house its pipe crushing
21:57 rue_house bar crushing the pipe against an anvil
21:57 rue_house bar is on a fulcrum
21:57 zhanx Oh I got a wood stove today
21:57 zhanx For my forge
21:57 rue_house [optional path].. spring holes the bar against the pipe just enough to hold it closed at max rated pres.
21:58 rue_house the solidoind pulls the bar against the spring
21:58 rue_house zhanx, ... I'd say overkill, but ok
21:58 rue_house hot water tank is ok
21:58 zhanx Rabbit hole in for effect, and it was free
21:59 rue_house line with a mix of lots of vermiculite (or was it perlite). a bit of sand and a bit of cement
21:59 rue_house my smelter is like 4 or 5 years old now and the liner is still in fine condition
21:59 rue_house the white lava rock stuff, I think its perlite
22:00 zhanx Smelters are not forges
22:00 rue_house but there hot
22:00 zhanx Turing was not ai
22:00 rue_house 2" of that stuff and the outside will almost be cold enough to hold your hand on
22:00 rue_house no but turing is a measure for it
22:01 rue_house a pretty flimsy one
22:01 zhanx Hot is a measurement
22:01 rue_house based on a sketchy proposition
22:01 rue_house it your taking steel up to 1200c, you dont want the furnace to also be 1200c
22:01 zhanx True
22:02 rue_house that lining is cheap and easy
22:02 rue_house and you can make it into bricks
22:02 zhanx It's -2f out last day this this week
22:02 rue_house 1200c sounds nicer
22:03 rue_house I wonder if I can 3d print this...
22:05 rue_house I find I'm not 3d printing things to be fancy, I'm just being lazy
22:06 rue_house ok i need numbesr
22:33 rue_house 8mm
22:34 rue_house solinoid is 40mm with a 4mm stroke
22:36 Tom_itx you should start lost pla casting
22:36 rue_house dont have anything to do with it yet
22:36 rue_house and besides, I dont have the equip to burn it out
22:36 Tom_itx you don't have an oven?
22:36 rue_house so I might as well make + shapes for sand casting
22:36 zhanx Send me a 3d printer out of scrap parts please
22:37 rue_house not using my kit oven for that
22:37 rue_house zhanx, cant, I'm out of 8mm rod
22:37 Tom_itx dual purpose it
22:37 zhanx I don't care if the build are a is small
22:37 zhanx Rue make it from cd roms
22:37 rue_house I suggest a smallest table of 15cm, casue them you can makea full size printer partz
22:38 rue_house hah
22:38 rue_house the head is the only trickey part
22:38 rue_house that thermal profile is really pickey
22:38 zhanx Ok I will wait
22:39 rue_house I'm designing a valve just now tho
22:39 rue_house zhanx, you can really easy scab togethor any xyz for it
22:39 zhanx I did said I would wait
22:39 rue_house then just needs a head
22:39 zhanx Yep I can't
22:39 rue_house you need a desk and arms
22:39 rue_house thats it
22:41 Tom_itx i wonder if kat is snowed in
22:41 Tom_itx my package from memphis is delayed because of it
22:41 Tom_itx maybe she's far enough s of it
22:42 zhanx Maybe
22:42 rue_house we have no snow pack ont eh mountian, were gonna have no water this year
22:42 zhanx They got hit good
22:42 Tom_itx E of us got 15"
22:43 Tom_itx Mo.
22:43 zhanx Rue, want some of mine? I got 5'
22:43 Tom_itx z where you at now?
22:43 Tom_itx NY?
22:43 zhanx And that Is packed, yes
22:43 zhanx Upstate, quite
22:47 rue_house hahah, a stay, I'm using a guy wire in my valve design, hahahaha
22:48 rue_house oooooooh
22:49 rue_house if I use the air pressure instead of a spring, then it'll self compensate and I can use it for any pressure
22:50 rue_house or maybe with a spring
22:51 rue_house oh damn, I have to remmeber to buy insurance for the truck
22:52 rue_house I wonder when it runs out
22:52 rue_house what is the diameter of coat hanger wire?
22:53 zhanx1 My Internet sucks
22:53 rue_house about 2.5mm
22:54 rue_house 14+8+3=
22:54 rue_house 25, ok
22:54 rue_house ughkg, 25*2 = 50
22:55 rue_house 5cm on the bar
22:55 rue_house awefull, redesign!
22:55 slidercrank zhanx, you can use your Internet to clean the floor
22:56 zhanx Doubtful
22:56 rue_house (it sucks)
22:56 zhanx Rue is now captain obvious
22:56 slidercrank that's what I meant. To vacuum-clean it.
22:57 rue_house I kida felt you missed that one
22:57 e_house is a captin now!, swe
22:57 zhanx Hence cpt o
22:57 rue_house gimme that yoke!
22:57 zhanx Oh rue forgot!
22:57 rue_house wait, there are pedals too?
22:58 rue_house what do the pedals do? why are we flying sideways?
22:58 zhanx Found a store on the board to day, called =rue!
22:58 zhanx Border stupid autocorrect
23:00 zhanx Opps
23:02 e_house waits for a working punch
23:02 rue_house here is a good one
23:03 rue_house we were sent to a waste water treatment plant to hook up an alarm that a non-local company couldn't finish
23:03 rue_house the instructions were to provide a normally open contact on a circuit that currently operates an alarm lamp
23:04 rue_house we decided to check the other end before conencting it
23:04 rue_house the other end was a plc, and other things
23:04 rue_house upon inspection, there was a) an analog input to a plc b) a 4-20ma bar meter, c) a resistor
23:05 rue_house the plc is dry voltage input
23:05 rue_house the resistor is across it as per a 4-20ma current loop with a plc reading voltage
23:05 rue_house but no current source
23:06 rue_house they had us connecting a switch, in series with a current loop monitor, in circuit with a resistor shunted plc voltage input
23:06 rue_house on digging, it turns out they removed a 4-20ma flow detector
23:06 rue_house it was a WTF day
23:07 zhanx I bet
23:07 zhanx But you got paid
23:07 rue_house oh yea we will bill it
23:08 rue_house its the typical kinda thing we see, people come in from out of town, completely mess stuff up not knowing what they are doing, and just leave
23:09 rue_house I have a photo of a engineered drawing for another sewer lift station that is blatently done wrong,
23:09 rue_house all the right peices to make a latching alarm, completely wired wrong
23:09 rue_house by design off the drawings
23:10 zhanx Fun
23:10 rue_house the latching relay would never even enguage unless you hold down the reset button, and even then it wont latch
23:10 zhanx Bad, even I can do that right
23:11 rue_house it was halarious, right there on the plan
23:11 rue_house and they built it just like ont eh plan
23:11 zhanx It's latching and a plc , wow
23:11 rue_house the reset for the latching relay was even N.O.
23:11 zhanx As an hvac guy, wtf
23:11 rue_house buton
23:11 rue_house its in my keeper photos
23:12 rue_house like the recepticle screwed to the side of a joist in a basement
23:12 rue_house (live)
23:12 zhanx I bet, my last was a 24vdc circuit minus the 24vdc to power it
23:12 rue_house heh
23:12 rue_house button to relay coil?
23:13 zhanx Nope no coil
23:13 zhanx Literally no dc side power on the diagram
23:13 rue_house oh, hah
23:13 zhanx I was like Umm ok then
23:14 zhanx Boiler loop system etc
23:14 zhanx Found it, the engineering team basically was in grade school
23:16 rue_house arg, the leverage setup for this sucks
23:17 zhanx Longer fulcrum
23:18 zhanx Move the moon
23:19 rue_house the pipe is 8mm wide,
23:19 rue_house the stroke on the solinoid (usable) is 4mm
23:19 rue_house but the stupid body of the solinoid is 28mm thick
23:19 rue_house which is getting in the way of everything
23:19 zhanx Pic?
23:19 rue_house no, avr :)
23:20 zhanx Ha ha
23:21 rue_house .. plese stand by
23:22 rue_house or sit, you can sit
23:22 rue_house sitings good
23:22 zhanx Ok kick this around, home automation, temp humidity controls, based off zone controllers. Touch screen with interface for light controls
23:22 rue_house http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/images/p1070107.jpg
23:23 zhanx 433 wireless for commo etc
23:23 rue_house the idea is to crunch this down to a nice smallpackage
23:23 rue_house zhanx, sounds good
23:24 rue_house 433 gets around isolation
23:24 zhanx Central 5v power for lights and controls off solar
23:24 rue_house no lights, no controller?
23:25 rue_house :) backlighting lcd's is hungry
23:25 rue_house unless your ok with b&w
23:26 zhanx No whole home light system off grid
23:26 rue_house aaah
23:26 rue_house grid is getting to be another life tax
23:26 rue_house were up another 6% this year
23:26 zhanx 8 here
23:26 zhanx Hence led lights etc
23:27 rue_house yea
23:27 rue_house and canada now effectivly has solar tax
23:28 zhanx Wow
23:29 rue_house apparently were not just non-koyoto, were anti-koyoto
23:29 rue_house this is what happens when your priminister comes from an oil family
23:29 zhanx Beats us
23:32 rue_house ok I'v not work out which way is up, but I think I have a design
23:32 rue_house here's hoping it works in 3 dimentions
23:38 rue_house I dont think I can just print this
23:39 zhanx Left!
23:42 rue_house well, if I split this up, some peices seem obvious
23:45 rue_house M3
23:45 rue_house how big is the head on am M3
23:46 rue_house maybe 6.5mm?
23:46 zhanx 3mm
23:46 rue_house head
23:46 zhanx 3mm time 3.14
23:47 rue_house you sir, I think, are intoxicated
23:47 zhanx Nope just use imperial
23:48 rue_house close enough
23:48 zhanx Bah!
23:50 zhanx Giving advice on soldering with silver solder
