10:14 LiohAu I assume that the choice is driven by the mecanical caracteristics of the materials, so maybe wood is not appropriate, but there are a lot of recyclable materials.
10:32 deshipu LiohAu: metal is pretty recyclable
10:32 LiohAu but it is heavy
10:32 deshipu LiohAu: but recycling is just a small part of ecology
10:33 LiohAu I'm more thinking about fiberglass, carbon fiber, aluminum
10:33 deshipu what about the food chain of robots, for instance?
10:34 deshipu is there any reasearch on that?
10:34 deshipu or their mating rituals
10:35 deshipu also, they way their looks affects the eastetics of the landscape
10:35 deshipu I think that's a crucial research topic
10:35 deshipu apart of what you mentioned, of course, I'd love to have some edible servos
10:36 deshipu and bio-degradable cpus
10:36 shipu completely ignores the existence of batte
12:59 hityy hey guys
13:00 hityy does any one know how i can use pc/104 IO?
14:13 wolfmanjm if I recall PC104 was an ISA bus
14:13 wolfmanjm didnlt have any I/O needed an ISA board to do I/O
15:32 Ademan has anyone measured angles using potentiometers before?
15:33 Ademan I'm considering using a potentiometer to measure the angle of an input device (not strictly robotics) and I'm wondering if it will be sufficiently high resolution (it's a standard cheapo potentiometer)
15:33 Ademan I'm asking in here since I figure people here have an idea of the resolution difference between encoders and potentiometers
15:34 LiohAu Ademan: aren't servo using a potentiometer?
15:35 Ademan LiohAu: that's true
15:37 Ademan the other issue is I'm not certain how I'm going to secure the "base" of the potentiometer. The axle has a flat in it so that much is easy
15:37 Ademan I don't have it in front of me, but it sort of looks as though some similar potentiometers have a vertical piece of metal that could prevent the base from rotating
15:37 Ademan I'm really struggling with english today... I may be more tired than I thought...
15:58 deshipu Ademan: make sure you get a linear pot, not logarithmic
15:58 deshipu Ademan: I would use one of those trim pots
15:59 deshipu Ademan: the resolution is the same as your ADC
15:59 deshipu Ademan: although the accuracy depends a lot on the pot's quality
16:00 deshipu http://www.parts-express.com/Data/Default/Images/Catalog/Original/028-500K_HR_0.jpg
16:00 deshipu those
16:01 Ademan deshipu: yeah I suppose I meant accuracy not resolution
16:03 deshipu well, there are some *extremely* accurate potentiometers out there, but they are expensive
18:55 Jak_o_Shadows I should've bought a crimping tool
20:32 rue_house 22 days ago?
20:53 Jak_o_Shadows sure?
20:56 rue_shop3 BUILD ROBOTS
21:00 Jak_o_Shadows the 3d printer is well under way
22:49 rue_house is it done yet?
22:49 rue_house where is gush? wonder how his printer is doing
22:50 Jak_o_Shadows I still need to buy threaded rods and a few bolts
22:51 Jak_o_Shadows But the wiring is in place (hence why I should've bought a crimping tool),
22:51 Jak_o_Shadows I think my main extruder gear may be warped though
