00:05 blib Triffid_Hunter: you are charging rechrgeable batteries, not regular batteries, right?
00:06 Triffid_Hunter blib: yes of course
00:07 blib Triffid_Hunter: so if I buy the one I linked, I should be able to do more than the accucell, just because its more powerful
00:08 Triffid_Hunter blib: same things, faster, if they'll take it
00:08 blib Triffid_Hunter: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__59205__Turnigy_nano_tech_6000mah_3S_25_50C_Lipo_Pack_AR_Warehouse_.html - battery I 'am buying for an rc truck
00:11 Triffid_Hunter blib: yeah get a stronger charger for that, would take over an hour to charge with my accucell
00:11 Triffid_Hunter blib: must be a decent size truck, how much run time are you going for?
00:14 blib Triffid_Hunter: The motors take 0.5A no load and 20A stall - 4 of them. https://www.servocity.com/html/313_rpm_hd_precision_planetary.html#.VL8-0kcVh8E
00:14 blib Triffid_Hunter: no idea how long it will run for with 4 motors
00:14 Triffid_Hunter depends on the load I suppose ;)
00:14 Triffid_Hunter I can tell you that my R/C's battery goes down a bit faster doing donuts and drifts than just jumps
00:16 blib Triffid_Hunter: any ideas how much time can I expect with a payload of 2kg?
00:16 Triffid_Hunter blib: depends on the load
00:17 Triffid_Hunter it's not like you're winching the payload vertically, which would actually make the calculations easier
00:17 Triffid_Hunter blib: carrying the same payload with the same vehicle over polished wood or shagpile carpet give vastly different loads
00:18 blib Triffid_Hunter: Trying to run it on a road
04:37 snottlebocket anyone here with experience with building 3d printed robot hands?
04:43 deshipu tentacles only
06:31 snottlebocket tentacles probably use the same knowledge
06:31 snottlebocket I’m looking to build a hand capable of making the rock, paper, scissors gestures
06:32 snottlebocket since I only need such a limited amount of movement and control, I’m looking for the most robust way of actuating the fingers
15:44 deshipu I can't stop looking at this cute fellow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtAtrGBXZmg
16:20 GuShH rue_bed: further investigation on shorty lathe, I believe the bed was 2.2 meters long originally, with a center stand for support, they most likely chopped it to make another machine out of it, what a shame huh.
16:21 GuShH it was then converted to the spinning lathe it is now
16:21 GuShH original tailstock had bronze bushings
16:22 Tom_itx GuShH!
16:35 GuShH Tom_itx: yes?
16:35 ShH throws a chinese ipcam at T
16:38 GuShH I had an ipcam at the shop, just on the desk nothing permanent... someone must have hit the reset button because it lost all the settings
16:38 ShH fr
16:40 deshipu https://static.hackaday.io/images/2663881421873992084.jpg <-- my first hand-made PCB!
16:44 Tom_L GuShH what you been up to?
16:47 GuShH not much
16:47 GuShH Tom_L: you?
16:47 Tom_itx same
16:48 Tom_itx just rewiring my control a bit
16:48 GuShH I was cleaning up the handwheels on the mill...
16:48 Tom_itx got new boards for it
16:48 Tom_itx waiting on a handwheel
16:48 GuShH oh encoder type, I meant the leadscrew ones heh
16:48 GuShH not into the cnc phase yet.
16:48 GuShH will need new leadscrews anyway
16:49 Tom_itx i know what you meant
16:50 GuShH pft
16:50 GuShH because they were rusty, they are cast iron...
16:50 GuShH nasty to work with
16:57 GuShH deshipu: congratz :p
16:57 GuShH looks better than my first board, which was.. uh... a decade and some years ago
16:58 GuShH we used sharpie BACK THEN.
16:58 GuShH for the resist.
16:58 GuShH but eagle works... although I think you got a short with your ground fill
16:58 GuShH 3 or 4, at the right corner
16:58 GuShH typically if you run 10A or so across the shorts will pop open
16:59 GuShH next time make your gap much bigger, you are working with low res
16:59 GuShH and, if your toner doesn't cover all the areas you want, sharpie.
17:00 GuShH for the pitting... well, adjust your temperature and don't scrub on it, just airate or shake / rock it instead
17:00 GuShH both ferric and cupric require the right temperature to etch properly every time
17:01 deshipu I see
17:01 deshipu I think it's mostly problems transferring the toner
17:02 GuShH that could be also, so clean the copper properly first
17:02 GuShH with a brillopad or something
17:02 GuShH then acetone
17:03 deshipu peeling off the paper is the problem
17:03 GuShH oh? so put it in warm water with soap
17:03 GuShH it comes out almost by itself
17:03 GuShH if you scrub you damage the resist
17:03 GuShH try other types of paper if you get lots of fibres stuck, but that's common... this is a low tech method
17:03 GuShH I would not try magazine paper myself at least not on my color laser
17:04 GuShH a friend used to bitch about not being able to transfer the toner at all with his samsung printer
17:04 GuShH err no, it was an HP
17:04 GuShH an old laser one
17:05 GuShH samsung toner always worked for me
17:09 GuShH I found the chinese version of rue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXdxG3EkK_Y
17:09 deshipu thanks for the tips
17:09 GuShH hahahaha this is fantastic
17:10 GuShH of course I reckon rue would go electric instead
17:10 GuShH needs a bit of a redesign on the joints though
17:10 deshipu and a flamethrower
17:10 GuShH hahaha
17:11 GuShH I would crack up if I saw that going down the street
17:11 GuShH I don't see the point of those two front legs
17:11 GuShH just visual I guess
17:11 GuShH they barely seem to contact at alll
17:11 deshipu the point of the whole contraption
17:12 GuShH he's one of those artists
18:03 GuShH Tom_itx: so what's next to get the cnc going?
18:08 GuShH well don't say I didn't ask
18:08 ShH walks
18:10 GuShH I need to mod these handles, there's no way to adjust the load against the leadscrews
18:10 GuShH but first I need to find suitable thrust bearings, or perhaps needle bearings hrmm
18:12 GuShH the spindle bearings are still being run-in but at least they are past the initial phase, they got up to 50-60°C under almost no load at first
18:13 GuShH from 500 to 4200 or so rpm, haven't got up to 6k yet
18:14 GuShH (the absolute factory maximum, but I could overdrive it in theory however anything more and the bearings would go poof since the lubrication is grease, not oil) I couldn't find an easy way to use oil
18:14 GuShH I'd like to use oil on both gearboxes, but there's no space for seals
18:19 theBear use dolphin or penguin oil instead then <grin>
18:53 Tom_itx GuShH i'm waiting to get the MPG
18:53 Tom_itx then i need to hook up the spindle encoder which is what i was doing when all this happened
19:34 rue_house how many MPG does your cnc get?
19:36 Tom_itx 1
19:37 Tom_itx 2 if you're careless
20:02 rue_house well, I have 15 pcb's to drill
20:02 rue_house and 2 to finish designing and etch
21:21 rue_house ok, that was a nap, I'm gonna go drill pcb's
21:23 Tom_itx what are the for?
21:33 codepython777 rue_house: what material do you use to make pcbs?where do you buy them from?
21:43 Tom_itx material? Fr4
21:43 Tom_itx chemicals: Sodium Persulphate or Ammonium Persulphate
21:43 codepython777 Tom_itx: Thanks
21:44 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/etching/etch_index.php
21:44 Tom_itx and a tank like that
21:45 codepython777 Tom_itx: looks interesting :)
