01:04 rue_shop3 I do but not with rpi
01:04 rue_shop3 I have to say, things are the perfect thing to do when printing
02:21 rue_shop3 ok
02:21 rue_shop3 hmm how to mount this power supply
02:36 mrdata screws?
02:48 rue_shop3 kinda
02:48 rue_shop3 screws only hold things togethor
02:48 rue_shop3 this needs more
03:16 rue_shop3 have to wait 54 mins for the printer to be ready
03:16 rue_shop3 arg
03:19 mrdata nuts and bolts?
03:19 mrdata drill-holes and washers?
03:20 mrdata frames and supports?
03:20 rue_shop3 I dunno, that sounds like work
03:21 rue_shop3 hows about I just hot glue it?
03:21 rue_shop3 waaaait, I'm a moron
03:21 rue_shop3 I cant hot glue it
03:21 rue_shop3 I'm in canada
03:21 rue_shop3 I should duct tape it
03:22 rue_shop3 the problem is that its a pc power supply thats completely emcapsulated in the case
03:22 rue_shop3 its right in the middle of the case
03:23 rue_shop3 well, its against a wall, but not in the right way
03:23 rue_shop3 they are designed to be grabbed by the back plate
03:23 rue_shop3 which there are no mount points at for me
03:33 rue_shop3 I just came up with an analogy I'll need later
03:33 rue_shop3 "for the same reason you dont go offroading in a mercedies-benz"
03:50 rue_shop3 I have figured this out
03:51 rue_shop3 I have worked out how to mount the side of the power supply that has no mounting holes
03:51 rue_shop3 the answer is: dont
03:51 rue_shop3 so I'll just give it a retaining bracket and call it good
04:04 rue_shop3 that worked!
04:04 rue_shop3 nicely
04:04 rue_shop3 wish I thought of that 2 hours ago
04:04 rue_shop3 ah wel
04:10 RifRaf rue_shop3: wanna make some linear encoders with AMS stuff? have pcbs for em
04:11 RifRaf grab a few samples, they arrive in mere days
04:13 RifRaf smaller than 1 micron resolution if you need
05:00 Veverak nah
05:00 Veverak any tips for math to detect polygon collision?
05:00 Veverak (two meshes)
05:14 rue_shop3 AMS?
05:14 rue_shop3 the glass stuff?
05:18 rue_shop3 this printer isn't good for me
05:18 rue_shop3 its 3am
05:18 rue_shop3 I think the plastic gives off something that keeps me awake
05:19 Veverak lolz
05:19 Veverak :D
05:19 rue_shop3 the first week I got it working I was up till midnight every day
05:20 rue_shop3 by the end of the week I was a zombie
05:21 rue_shop3 the work I'm getting done on the new cnc controller while I wait for prints is great tho
05:22 Veverak :)
05:22 Veverak any pics?
05:22 rue_shop3 yup, all on my camera
05:53 RifRaf http://ams.com/eng magnetic
05:55 rue_shop3 ooooh
05:58 rue_shop3 http://www.ebay.com/itm/300MM-12-Electronic-Digital-Vernier-Caliper-Gauge-Micrometer-Ruler-Exactly-DHUS-/271492878676
05:58 RifRaf if you wana play will give you part numbers and stuff
05:58 rue_shop3 are they more than that for 300mm?
05:58 RifRaf samples are fre
05:58 rue_shop3 how long are the samples?
05:59 RifRaf a few days
05:59 RifRaf oh
05:59 RifRaf 300mm
05:59 rue_shop3 :)
05:59 rue_shop3 ah
05:59 rue_shop3 hmm
05:59 rue_shop3 they smart or quadrature?
05:59 RifRaf there are various, but i have a breakout board made up for some specific encoder chips
06:00 RifRaf quadrature, they have about 4 ways to be read
06:00 RifRaf pwm even
06:00 rue_shop3 are the chips ... HIP80--
06:00 rue_shop3 ?
06:01 rue_shop3 rusty memory, that and its now 3:40am
06:01 rue_shop3 my print is...
06:01 rue_shop3 92%
06:02 rue_shop3 then I will have a nice little box for the temp guage for the fridge
06:02 rue_shop3 and then I'll be able to see it
06:02 rue_shop3 and still prolyl never figure out what causes the milk to freeze
06:03 rue_shop3 compared to the 150mm ones, the 300mm ones aren't bad
06:03 RifRaf AS5311
06:03 RifRaf http://ams.com/eng/content/download/17954/325059/file/AS5311_Datasheet_EN_v6.pdf
06:05 rue_shop3 I think the calipers are capacitive
06:05 RifRaf yeah i have a set pulled apart here
06:05 RifRaf did not work with the magnetic strip
06:05 rue_shop3 the target for the new cnc is 30x30cm
06:06 RifRaf and makes sence they don't use magnetic in the calipers cause they would collect filings all the time in workshop
06:06 rue_shop3 yes
06:08 RifRaf gonna control it with a smoothie?
06:08 rue_shop3 no
06:08 rue_shop3 at this rate maybe grbl
06:08 rue_shop3 will see
06:08 rue_shop3 print is finished, I'm going to bed!
06:08 RifRaf i wanna use my smoothie for one, or some other xyz cnc
06:09 RifRaf mine isn't, 2 hours to go
06:09 RifRaf new x carriage
06:09 rue_shop3 grbl/smoothie, whatever
06:09 rue_shop3 same fucntion
12:41 rue_bed Tom_itx, the back of your toasterover isn't insulated is it?
12:42 Tom_itx no
12:42 Tom_itx just wrapped the side and top
12:42 Tom_itx one side
12:43 Tom_itx it was mostly to keep the control cooler
12:43 Tom_itx but it did help thermal properties
12:45 rue_bed I'm wondering if I should add an IR baffle atthe back or soemting
12:46 rue_bed I need the controller for 2 things now, I want to use it to contoll a rice maker like thing too
12:46 rue_bed a newer rice maker I have has a crude profile in it, and it helps a lot
12:46 rue_bed but its all set too high
12:47 Tom_itx get another controller
12:47 Tom_itx gotta run...
12:47 rue_bed my plan is to mod the software for yours to .. see ya
12:47 rue_bed my plan is to mod the software for yours to store a series of temp/time targets
12:47 Tom_itx yeah
12:47 rue_bed exactly like the robot arm player I wrote
12:47 Tom_itx i'm gonna work on mine later today
12:47 Tom_itx off to the store right now
12:48 rue_bed but I have some other mods to make, I need to connectthe lcd direct
12:48 rue_bed the pins are there, might as well
12:48 rue_bed and I have the usb port for rewriting and monitoring it
12:48 rue_bed I may chnage hte button for a pushbutton encoder wheel
12:48 rue_bed esp since I figured out where I put them
12:52 rue_bed damn, I'm awake
12:55 rue_bed funny thing, after getting the reprap working, all I can think of when I hear old computer beeps in movies is 3d printing
13:34 rue_house ok
13:37 rue_house I better hurry up and have breakfast, its 40 to lunch
14:42 rue_house I'm gonna add a project to my list
14:42 rue_house I'm gonna refit the fridge with led lights
14:43 rue_house it seems kinda stupid to ahve a 60W incadescent in the fridge
14:44 chris_99 is it on enough, to bother changing though?
14:45 rue_house I'm gonna say its not as much about not putting soemthing hot in the fridge every time I open it as it is about more whiter light
14:45 chris_99 ah
14:46 rue_house http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc/p1070026.jpg
14:46 rue_house go go 3d printer!
14:46 rue_house http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc/p1070027.jpg
14:46 rue_house http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc/p1070029.jpg
14:46 rue_house new control box for the cnc
14:46 chris_99 nice :)
14:46 rue_house http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc/p1070031.jpg
14:46 rue_house http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc/p1070033.jpg
14:46 rue_house ^^ arduino boards sure are cheap!
14:49 rue_house mrdata, so onteh bottom right of that power supply is an L bracket that holds that corner like a normal mount for a pc power supply, and at the top left of it is just a little L bracket that holds that corner down, and with that, its got nowhere to go
14:49 rue_house Tom_itx, thats the new cnc control box
14:50 rue_house its nice when the arduino baords have an isp connector
14:51 mrdata ok
14:51 rue_house I should start a book of all the real arduino pinouts for how often I have to look them up
14:51 rue_house mrdata, as you can see, bolting the top of the back would have been a bit of a chore... choar....work
14:52 mrdata if you look them up often, a chart on the wall would be good
14:52 rue_house no space left between all the other charts
14:52 rue_house and schematics
14:52 rue_house and drawings
14:53 mrdata no room for marylin monroe there either?
14:53 mrdata oh well
14:54 rue_house no but ther are some sexy robots
14:54 rue_house like the ABB 1400
14:54 rue_house wooo ABB!
15:03 armyofevilrobots rue_house: Nice work!
15:05 rue_house :)
15:05 rue_house I'll thingverse it with a link to the ebay item
15:05 rue_house laaaaater
15:05 rue_house :)
15:05 rue_house today while making/eating breakfast I printed a pulley
15:06 rue_house and to my surprise, it worked
16:38 rue_shop3 outside, I need to repot the poinsetta
16:50 rue_shop3 ok done
16:50 rue_shop3 oven
16:50 rue_shop3 projects keep comming back to the oven
16:51 Tom_itx cnc control is taking shape
16:53 rue_shop3 did you see the pcis of mine?
16:54 Tom_itx ^^ those yes
16:54 rue_shop3 the box was a bit big but way better than anything else I could cough up
16:54 rue_shop3 its got lots of upgrade space
16:54 rue_shop3 :)
16:54 Tom_itx yup
16:56 rue_shop3 oven
16:56 rue_shop3 I need to fit the oven connectors
16:56 rue_shop3 .. and while I'm doing that, I'd like to be rolling off parts for a new reprap
16:57 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, can you suggest a filament driver for an i2?
16:57 rue_shop3 the reprap parts seem to be terribly obsolete (github) and there are about 1000000 of them on thingverse, some of which I cant tell the differences between
16:58 rue_shop3 if not, I'm sure I can guess one that'll work
17:03 Tom_itx make your own
17:04 Tom_itx then you know what you're getting
17:08 rue_shop3 dont think anything I can come up with is better
17:08 rue_shop3 with all the models out there tho, I dont who who's on top
17:08 Tom_itx not better but then you wouldn't be guessing
17:33 rue_shop3 "start from the beginning, tell me again WHY the spray on glue was sitting in with the cans of spray on oil?"
18:32 armyofevilrobots rue_shop3: I haven’t built one in a long time, but I would see what the default is on the i2 kits and use that.
18:39 rue_shop3 its horridly obsolete
18:39 rue_shop3 last I looked
18:49 rue_shop3 ah, so many things to put togethor
18:49 rue_shop3 have to find that controller I was gonna use for the oven
18:54 Tom_itx you should complete _one_ project in your lifetime
18:54 rue_shop3 the reprap works
18:54 rue_shop3 so does the lawn mowing robot
18:54 rue_shop3 and,
18:55 e_shop3 points to 4 robotic arms behind
18:55 rue_shop3 I'm doing pretty good latley
18:55 ace4016 robot Vishnu?
18:55 Tom_itx yeah you did get the reprap going
18:55 rue_shop3 only took 2.5 years
18:56 rue_shop3 I ahve the old toaster oven, but its only got one setpoint
18:57 rue_shop3 I got the serial working, but I think every time you change the setpoints it rewrites its flash
18:57 rue_shop3 its an old chip, I think its prolly only good for 10kc
19:00 rue_shop3 14 io lines
19:00 rue_shop3 ok
19:01 rue_shop3 my goal is to be able to save muliple profiles on the avr
19:01 rue_shop3 when it starts up, you can select a profile
19:01 Tom_itx eeprom?
19:01 rue_shop3 see how I do
19:01 rue_shop3 yea
19:02 rue_shop3 the profiles would be a name string, and sets of temp/time targets
19:02 rue_shop3 hit 50c over the course of 40 seconds
19:03 rue_shop3 hit 60c in 0 seconds, and it would just get to 60 fast as it could and go from there
19:03 rue_shop3 in the shower I was thinking about the resolution
19:03 rue_shop3 0-255c isn't enough range
19:03 rue_shop3 but 30-280 might be
19:03 rue_shop3 but 30-285 might be
19:04 rue_shop3 255 seconds isn't really much elbow room either
19:04 rue_shop3 and 65535 seconds is just stupid
19:04 rue_shop3 so I was thinking about 4 seconds/unit
19:04 rue_shop3 17 minutes?
19:04 rue_shop3 hmm
19:05 rue_shop3 how about 0-2550 seconds
19:05 rue_shop3 @15 seconds...
19:05 rue_shop3 3825
19:06 rue_shop3 1 hour-ish
19:06 rue_shop3 if I want to use this for cooking too
19:06 rue_shop3 bah, I need more bits
19:07 rue_shop3 1c resolution should be fine
19:07 rue_shop3 cooking only needs 100c
19:07 Tom_itx trying to repurpose the timer for a wide range might be fun
19:07 rue_shop3 that timer code is a bit gimped
19:08 rue_shop3 if I use 2c resolution
19:08 rue_shop3 0-511c
19:09 rue_shop3 and 16 bits for the time
19:09 rue_shop3 in seoconds
19:09 rue_shop3 or I make a 24 bit word
19:10 Tom_itx it was made for one thing
19:11 rue_shop3 indeed
19:11 rue_shop3 I'm just adding some overboard
19:13 rue_shop3 if I use 24 bits, 2 descriptor bits, 9 temp. bits, and 13 time bits I get 2 hours
19:14 rue_shop3 I'm sure I dont need 1c resolution
19:14 rue_shop3 Tom_itx, whats the shortest time in the profile?
19:15 rue_shop3 I see the peak at 20-40 sec
19:15 Tom_itx i'd have to look at it
19:16 Tom_itx some are based on when it reaches it's target temp
19:16 rue_shop3 yea, just peaks and drops back out
19:16 rue_shop3 so a 5 or 10 second resolution prolly dosn't matter
19:16 rue_shop3 0 is still 0
19:20 rue_shop3 k, if it takes 9 hours to cook something, I'm not the one cooking it
19:20 rue_shop3 oooh
19:20 rue_shop3 wait I'm an idiot
19:20 rue_shop3 per step
19:20 rue_shop3 no saying the next step cant be the same temp
19:21 rue_shop3 no I'm gonna leave it 24 bit
19:24 rue_shop3 ah, here we go M88
19:37 rue_shop3 Tom_itx, I'm sorry, I'm giving up on compatability with yours
19:43 Tom_itx heh
19:44 rue_house the bits are getting spread out over the ports too much
19:44 Tom_itx nobody said it had to be
19:44 rue_house I wanted to make something you could use if you wanted
19:44 rue_house up the bar for everyone ya know
19:44 Tom_itx ya
19:53 Veverak nah
19:53 Veverak DONE
19:53 Veverak https://cloud.veverak.org/public.php?service=files&t=45bcd4107e7f16e10656967ac6135beb
19:53 Veverak best gearbox configuration I was able to figure out
19:54 Veverak and code for that gearboxes is only around 500 lines long
19:54 rue_shop3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
19:54 rue_shop3 I could print gearbox housings!
19:54 Veverak well yeah
19:54 Veverak you know, it sort of makes sense
19:54 Veverak :D
19:55 Veverak not the gear_wheels though
19:55 rue_shop3 if you know your pitch radius
19:55 Veverak which is easy to calculate
19:55 Veverak or was for me because I had gear-generating script around :)
19:56 Veverak https://bpaste.net/show/cf752b5c37e5
19:56 Veverak ^^ this is definiton of that gearboxes
19:56 Veverak yeah, few other parameters are kept inside, have to make them proper arguments :/
19:57 Veverak spacing, axis_offset, axis_diameter, thickness, k (clearance), screw, bearing
19:57 Veverak rue_shop3: if you want to get pitch radius of wheel, tell me, can get that info for you
19:58 Veverak just need number of teeth and diametral pitch
20:05 rue_shop3 I have 300 gears that I'd like to know the pitch radius on, how do you want me to send you the information?
20:05 rue_shop3 k
20:06 Veverak aaand outer radius
20:06 rue_shop3 isn't diametral pitch along the pitch radius?
20:06 Veverak so I can check if I don't have bullshit values
20:06 Veverak rue_shop3: two different things actually :D
20:06 Veverak or I suppose? wait a sec
20:07 Veverak damn it, I've got ... tipo there
20:07 rue_shop3 pretty sure the diametral pitch is along the pitch radiu
20:07 Veverak rue_shop3: number of teeth and outer radius and "modulo" ?
20:07 rue_shop3 modulo?
20:07 Veverak *modul
20:07 Veverak http://www.cage-gear.com/gear-pitch-convertion.htm
20:07 Veverak ^^
20:07 Veverak one of the three values listed there
20:08 rue_shop3 maybe I shoudl jsut do it by feel
20:09 rue_shop3 ok lcd with 14 pins
20:10 Veverak rue_shop3: diametral pitch and pitch radius -> two different things, completely
20:10 verak was confused for a while
20:10 rue_shop3 yea, one of them is the radius and the other is the distance between the teeth at that radius
20:11 Veverak Diametral pitch -> Ratio to number of teeth to the pitch diameter
20:12 Veverak rue_shop3: distance between teeths is circular pitch?
20:12 Veverak nah
20:12 rue_shop3 hmm
20:12 verak doesn't like this confusion, so far he usually get's "seller parameter for defining the wheel" (modulo for conrad) aaaand try to make that wheel in the sc
20:13 Veverak print outer diameter and compare it to what is written on the eshop
20:13 Veverak anyway, gn! :)
20:22 RifRaf rue_shop2: doesn't inkscape do involute gears and give you that info?
20:27 rue_shop3 yes, but the printer cant do fine teeth on gears
20:27 rue_shop3 and
20:27 e_shop3 points to the box of about 1500 g
21:07 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, I should make a die to pinch down 3mm into soemthing, then we should hook that temp controller to it and try to make some 3mm filament smaller
21:25 armyofevilrobots For sure :)
21:25 armyofevilrobots Unfortunately, I am out for a couple of weeks, due to work :(
21:28 rue_shop3 I just did a test, it looks like holes are always smaller than they should be by 1 tip size, is that what you mentioned a while back?
21:42 Tom_itx yay, spindle encoder works
21:42 Tom_itx had to add pullups to it but i figured on that since it's open collector
21:51 RifRaf rue_shop3: i always add variables for holes and stuff, you need to oversize a little, or just clean with drill which looks better anyway
21:52 rue_shop3 Tom_itx, sounds like your in for a long climb
22:10 Tom_itx went from a single channel 48 count to a 2k count with index
23:44 GuShH Tom_itx mill working now?
