00:00 Tom_itx that's the old one i fixed
00:02 Tom_itx the reg is held on with automotive trim double back tape. you'll need a crowbar to get it off
00:11 rue_shop3 much nicer when you know how it needs to end eh?
00:11 rue_shop3 hey, did you get the clips?
00:12 rue_shop3 :) no room for them now
00:13 Tom_itx no not yet
00:13 Tom_itx i could mount a din rail to the top
00:13 Tom_itx :D
00:14 Tom_itx also, that left card can go quite a distance from the others
00:14 Tom_itx RS422
00:15 Tom_itx i may use them as spacers since those float around on the rail a bit
00:15 Tom_itx i need those endblocks they make for that
00:16 rue_shop3 hah, I could have just sent yo usome
00:17 rue_shop3 how long has it been since I sent them?
00:17 Tom_itx you have endblocks?
00:17 Tom_itx i have no idea
00:17 Tom_itx i dunno when you sent them
00:17 rue_shop3 I have a box of din stuff
00:17 Tom_itx they don't move much
00:18 Tom_itx it doesn't look like it but probably 1/3 of taht is new wiring
00:19 Tom_itx i moved all the resistors i was using on the RS422 for pullups over to the supply rail. that's what all those white wires are for
00:19 Tom_itx too many bare wires in those connector blocks
00:19 Tom_itx since i'm using some of them single ended
01:36 rue_shop3 it just shattered again
01:36 rue_shop3 I see what happened
01:36 rue_shop3 it buckled
01:36 rue_shop3 and pushed on the side till it broke
02:40 rue_shop3 wow that chinese head leaks bad
03:47 rue_house tightened it up, see later
03:48 rue_house it prints, but X and Y are all over the place
08:05 Veverak https://cloud.veverak.org/public.php?service=files&t=289b93d0a288901fc15acd8ec2ae1f70
08:05 Veverak well
08:05 Veverak yestrday calibration wasn't so nice evidently
10:48 rue_bed Tom_itx, not meaning to get too fancy, but I'm thinking that the oven software should store a little themal program that consists of a list of temperature and time targets
10:48 rue_bed take this many seconds to get to this temp
10:48 rue_bed if it couldn't hit the temp in the given time, it would wait till it was at that temp before continueing
10:49 Tom_itx things cause temp rise to vary
10:49 Tom_itx how many boards inside etc
10:49 rue_bed indeed
10:49 rue_bed you just run all elements right?
10:49 Tom_itx it works wonderfully as is though
10:49 Tom_itx yes
10:49 rue_bed I'm wondering if I should operate them differently
10:49 Tom_itx why?
10:49 rue_bed I want to be able to reprofile it
10:50 Tom_itx you need them all on for even heating
10:50 rue_bed so I can do things like soften pvc pipe
10:50 Tom_itx you would still want even heat, just not as much
10:50 rue_bed yup
10:50 rue_bed it looks like even with all the element the temp dons't change tooo fast
10:51 rue_bed I have the reprap 'working' agian
10:51 Tom_itx it takes 8 min to reflow a batch of boards
10:51 rue_bed as such, I was up till 1am last night
10:51 Tom_itx i saw
10:51 Tom_itx how's the new head work?
10:51 rue_bed well I ran crisco thru it before I started, and I slowed everything down
10:52 rue_bed it leaks, but is otherwise ok
10:52 rue_bed I think I know the issue with my head, and its something I suspected when I changed one of the parts to stainless and the problekm got worse
10:52 Tom_itx fix the leaky faucet
10:53 rue_bed its just a matter of sinching up the brass and steel parts
10:53 rue_bed it was 1am I didn't retest
10:53 Tom_itx i was up
10:53 rue_bed at 1am?
10:53 Tom_itx yup
10:53 rue_bed heh
10:54 rue_bed I'm getting stoked about the oven
10:54 rue_bed heh
10:54 rue_bed I just need to finish the controller now
10:54 rue_bed I'm a bit concerned about my temp probe, its in a metal tube, not raw like yours
10:55 rue_bed so it'll react slower
10:55 rue_bed I suppose I"ll see
10:55 rue_bed its easy to chage
10:55 rue_bed I ran a ptfe tube across the top
10:55 rue_bed shower!
10:56 Tom_itx done that
11:18 delinquentme I need common household items to take a pipette tip
11:18 delinquentme and mount it to something around the size / mass of a brick
11:18 delinquentme how do ?
11:19 Tom_itx tie wrap
11:19 Tom_itx rubber band
11:19 Tom_itx superglue
11:19 Tom_itx spit
11:20 delinquentme epoxy maybs
11:20 delinquentme i should just drink more coffee
11:25 GuShH coffee is the one true solution
11:27 GuShH delinquentme: pipette tip? explain
11:29 rue_house I second, explain.
11:29 GuShH EXPLAIN YOURSELF!
11:29 rue_house NOW!
11:30 GuShH or else?
11:30 rue_house OR ELSE!
11:31 e_house whispers to GuShH 'I dont think this is work
11:32 ShH whispers to rue_house 'Well just hook these terminals to his ears and I'll slowly bring the voltage up t
11:33 e_house clips probles to delinquentmes
11:34 rue_house http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Morpher-Gold-USB-Disk-robot-dog-Memory-card-flash-drive-4G-8G-16G-32G-pen-drive-/121508232318
11:34 rue_house this is cute, should I buy one?
11:35 rue_house wtf, and the price just fell out
11:35 rue_house oh, no It changed my selection
11:42 Tom_itx aarg, i hate the end of year - new year start
11:42 Tom_itx too damn much paperwork
11:49 Veverak nah
11:49 Veverak any tips ofr like
11:49 Veverak pack of 10x micro sd ?
11:49 Veverak :D
12:21 deshipu guys, do you know of anything similar to the tmc222 step motor controller chip, but with more controllers in a single package?
12:47 rue_shop3 not I
13:16 ua this dog looks like 3d models in games 15 years back lol
13:56 blib has anyone used i2c here?
15:09 deshipu blib: I'm pretty sure of that
15:09 deshipu blib: are you collecting some sort of statistics on i2c usage?
15:20 rue_house "I'm NOT trying to tell you how to COOK!, I'm just SAYING that if you TURN THE STOVE ON it might speed things UP!"
15:22 deshipu "I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm only suggesting how you can be right even more!"
15:24 rue_house not sure how many times iv said to people while im diagnosing a prob;em that im not wrong, im just not right yet
15:25 rue_house as i deal with systems that have 15 different issues and never should have worked in the first place
15:25 rue_house and in some cases never did
15:30 blib I'm trying to see if there are tools available on ubuntu that will help me talk to i2c using python? or perhaps command line? I did see i2cdetect etc (lm-sensors) - any others that could be helpful?
15:31 deshipu blib: yes, there is the smbus python module, but you could just have asked that and save some time
15:32 deshipu blib: here's an example: http://www.raspberry-projects.com/pi/programming-in-python/i2c-programming-in-python/using-the-i2c-interface-2
15:35 blib deshipu: could not open /dev/i2c-0 or 1?
15:36 deshipu blib: permissions?
15:36 deshipu blib: did you load the right kernel modules?
15:36 blib I'm root. i2cdetec -l => outputs nothing
15:37 blib I installed python-smbus using apt-get install - I was hoping that would take care of the kernel updates?
15:38 rue_house did you isntall the kernel modules for the i2c hardware and bus you trying to use
15:39 blib lemme check
16:37 deshipu why are stepper motor controller chips so expensibe? :)
16:37 deshipu :(
16:37 deshipu I meant :(
16:38 GuShH which chips?
16:38 GuShH the drivers for cnc are usually expensive
16:38 Veverak deshipu: what voltage / amperage you need ?
16:38 GuShH at least where I live...
16:38 GuShH but tiny drivers are cheap from china
16:38 GuShH no need to mess around.
16:38 GuShH look at the ones used in repraps
16:39 verak finds that ones horr
16:41 deshipu Veverak: 3-5V, 20mA
16:41 deshipu the thing is, I need to drive 12 of them
16:41 deshipu preferably with spi or i2c or some other bus
16:44 Veverak wow
16:45 deshipu the idea is to build an even smaller robot, using the tiny stepper motors they make for adjusting camera lenses
16:46 deshipu but looking at the prices of those chips, I will be better off just programming a bunch of attinys to do it :/
16:46 Veverak lolz :)
16:46 deshipu and I'm not kidding here
16:47 Veverak well, it makes sense :D
16:47 Veverak nah, I should continue on my project
16:47 deshipu hardly
16:48 Veverak deshipu: btw: thought about buying an old lenses?
16:49 deshipu what for?
16:50 deshipu I have the motors, the controller for it is probably integrated in the camera's electronics
16:50 deshipu plus, there is one per camera
17:04 Veverak true
19:33 GuShH rue_shop2: hahaha tell me this isn't hilarious http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/showthread.php?t=18748
20:15 rue_shop3 sweet, it didn't screw up while I was gone
20:37 Tom_itx some crazy canuck sent me an envelope today
20:39 rue_shop3 oooo did you get it!?
20:40 Tom_itx those look better than the pics
20:40 rue_shop3 :)
20:40 rue_shop3 are they right?
20:40 rue_shop3 if not, blame the designer
20:40 Tom_itx they look like it
20:40 Tom_itx i didn't fit them to the rail yet
20:41 rue_shop3 cool
20:41 Tom_itx hole spacing is right
20:41 rue_shop3 one of the last things printed with a quartz head!
20:42 Tom_itx memorable
20:44 rue_shop3 I should work on software for the oven
20:44 Tom_itx they fit the rail nice and snug
20:45 rue_shop3 cool
20:45 Tom_itx i think the rear hook could be smaller
20:45 Tom_itx i found on the ones i bought it's easier to pull them forward and release the rear hook
20:45 rue_shop3 I dont know how that plastic is for springyness over time
20:46 Tom_itx so you don't overspring the front one
20:46 rue_shop3 realease thingles are good
20:46 Tom_itx that slot on the flange could be made longer to give it more spring too
20:47 rue_shop3 yea
20:47 rue_shop3 I noticed that, didn't bother mentioning
20:47 Tom_itx that was their design
20:48 Tom_itx i should pp you
20:48 rue_shop3 total chipping was $4
20:49 rue_shop3 I cant calculate the value of the plastic
20:49 rue_shop3 if you have a scale, its $50/kg
20:49 rue_shop3 its under 10g, so I cant weigh it
20:53 Tom_itx who to send it to?
20:58 e_shop3 goes back to s
21:01 Tom_itx done
21:02 Tom_itx is it working decent with the new heads?
21:28 ShH needs a better flycutter :
21:36 GuShH this thing is basically a stick with a diagonal hole and a setscrew for an hss round bit... I'm sure it works fine for finishing passes, but it chatters if you take anything other than 10 thou or so
21:47 rue_house 10 thou!
21:48 rue_house Tom_itx, thanks, Ill raid ebay tonight maybe
21:50 GuShH rue_house yeah it chatters because the tool is too long and flimsy (I didn't make it, just trying it out) http://i.imgur.com/twDQACC.jpg
21:50 GuShH you can see all the chattery marks, I need to buy or make a better one.
21:51 GuShH no wonder though you can see deflection when you push it with your fingers, it's in a collet chuck but still, too flimsy
21:51 GuShH doesn't help that you have to extend the bit so far for the reach
21:52 GuShH maybe it had a specific purpose (like I said, maybe finishing some soft metal) it obviously doesn't work very well
21:52 GuShH reducing the point of contact could help, but you'd need to go easier on the feed
21:54 ShH wouldn't dare run this at the maximum 6k
22:02 GuShH Tom_itx: suggestions?
22:03 GuShH my vfd is hanging from the bench, there's no e-stop and you have to reach over to the bench to start or stop the mill, lol
22:03 GuShH I bought all the supplies, just need to get onto it.
22:04 GuShH Trying to figure out how to flycut the face on a flat aluminum cover, I guess I'll need some sort of disposable fixture to screw it onto while milling, because otherwise if I use clamps I'll have to do several passes...
22:05 GuShH It's just for looks, the mechanism cover from the small turret lathe
23:27 rue_shop3 ok I think I found the perfectest box I have to the new cnc controler
