00:05 GuShH cheap bearings = asking for trouble
00:05 GuShH why don't you pack them with grease
00:06 GuShH oil is used only if it's to be kept sealed or recirculated
00:06 GuShH which brings up something I wanted to ask you about your china lathe, at least on the front bearing seal, does it spin with the spindle? because it shouldn't, but mine does.
00:06 GuShH and that's why they leak all over the place
00:07 rue_more they are packed with grease, thats the problem
00:07 GuShH to clean bearings I dip them in diesel
00:07 GuShH shake 'em around, and sometimes use the air compressor also
00:07 rue_more seal?
00:07 GuShH for bigger ones, I use the solvent gun with diesel
00:07 rue_more I dont thinkj its a seal...
00:08 GuShH I haven't taken taht spindle apart yet
00:08 rue_more aren't the heads on bushings?
00:08 GuShH no?
00:08 GuShH taper bearings
00:08 rue_more I have the book with a blowup diagram
00:08 rue_more hmm
00:08 rue_more I dont remember
00:08 rue_more I cant check now
00:08 GuShH bushings haven't been used in ages on lathes
00:08 GuShH sadly the taper bearings they used are tiny
00:09 GuShH I need to make a pulley puller so I can take the spindle apart for inspection
00:09 rue_more I'll wait till I have a problem
00:09 GuShH lol
00:09 GuShH a crashed taper bearing is bad.
00:09 rue_more last thing I need is for soemthing to break just becsue I took it apart
00:09 GuShH :o
00:10 GuShH it's just the nut (which sadly uses a grubscrew, instead of two lock nuts) the pulley, gear, spacer... and it all comes out the front
00:10 GuShH typically
00:10 rue_more not unless I have to
00:10 GuShH I did that on the tiny turret lathe, the races are dull
00:10 GuShH that's how worn out the bearings are
00:11 GuShH on the mill, the bearings had pitting and brinelling
00:11 rue_more ouch
00:11 GuShH so it pays to check 'em :p
00:11 rue_more nothing like hearing them crunch as it runs
00:11 GuShH yep it felt grainy
00:11 GuShH so I replaced all the bearings.
00:11 rue_more still new, not worried
00:11 GuShH that wasn't cheap nor easy
00:11 GuShH hmm mine is like 2-3 years old now I think
00:11 GuShH my tailstock became misaligned the other day
00:12 GuShH I could see it kinda twisting to the side when pushing the live center, I didn't know what the hell was going on
00:12 GuShH had to move it 3mm to the right, using the adjuster screws
00:12 GuShH I don't like how little contact the tailstock has with the bed, that's the worst part of it
00:12 GuShH still haven't got time to do a test cut between centers, but at least it feels centered now
00:13 GuShH you can really notice this with a drill bit, it will kinda twist itself into center
00:13 GuShH sometimes it's just the taper on the chuck that needs to be re-seated
00:13 GuShH or a chip between the morse tapers
00:13 rue_more oh one of my metric bits is bent...
00:13 rue_more I think the 5.5
00:13 GuShH haha
00:13 GuShH how did you manage that?
00:14 rue_more I didn't!
00:14 GuShH I tend to break bits on hand drills
00:14 rue_more they were 'cheap'
00:14 GuShH most of my drill bits are used
00:14 GuShH but good quality
00:14 rue_more but you cant just but a metric drill set in canada
00:14 GuShH I got a big lot of them from a deceased machinist
00:14 GuShH oh? that sucks
00:14 rue_more so a buddy got a basic set from france for me
00:14 GuShH I love the morse taper drill bits, but coming up with a whole set of those is very expensive.
00:15 GuShH oh and problem with those ont he china lathe is that it won't register the tang... on the tailstock, so that's bad
00:15 GuShH they could spin and damage the taper
00:15 GuShH I think they really cheaped out on that, but it could be fixed if you dared to bore out the nut and make a new one, with the tang register
00:15 GuShH sucks not to have it
00:16 GuShH but when you do have it, seems the width changes a bit
00:16 GuShH new shanks are wider and won't lock in properly on the mill spindle
00:16 GuShH :<
00:17 GuShH a file takes care of it, but that sucks.
00:17 rue_more a while back I was noticing that if I overtighen the jacobs the teeth start to flare AWAY from the bit
00:17 rue_more !?!?
00:22 GuShH huh
00:22 GuShH oh your chuck?
00:22 GuShH is it a real jacobs?
00:22 rue_more ont eh tail
00:22 GuShH my 3-16mm chuck is a china knockoff, the jaws are soft
00:22 ShH doesn't know what rue is talking about
00:22 rue_more the drill chuck for my tailstock
00:23 GuShH all of my chucks are taper mount
00:23 GuShH except for a couple tiny ones I got on round threaded arbors I made
00:23 GuShH which will be used on the turret
00:23 rue_more if I tighten it up the teeth that hold the bit start to flare out away from the bit
00:23 GuShH yes, they are soft jaws then
00:24 GuShH and it may possibly have an issue, did you feel them with your finger?
00:24 rue_more I arranged my live centre and drillchuck such that I have a full set of collar adapters
00:24 GuShH my tiny 0-6mm jacobs chuck is nice, but I mostly use a keyless röhm for any precision stuff
00:24 rue_more I can put anything 1, 2, 3 into the tailstock
00:24 rue_more and I have a dead #4 for the headstock
00:24 GuShH yeah I got adapters also they're handy
00:25 GuShH sadly they make your tool lose some rigidity
00:25 GuShH since it makes it longer
00:25 GuShH brb
00:29 rue_more I need a chair that dosn't require me to stop standing up
00:29 rue_more and holds me upside down.
00:35 GuShH wat
00:35 GuShH meh, let's watch the ending of cloud atlas then.
00:36 GuShH that movie is so long !
00:37 rue_more forgive me, for it has been over 5 days since I last ebay'd
00:37 rue_more wait, or has it...
00:48 Loshki rue_more: lying's a sin too...
01:28 wolfmanjm ok ordered a 4 jaw chuck for my mini lathe... now we are cooking ;)
01:29 wolfmanjm late b'day present to myself :)
01:32 rue_more about 20 years late?
01:35 wolfmanjm Ionly got the lathe last year so been learning as I go. Now I understand the usefullness of a 4 jaw vs 3 jaw chuck :)
01:35 rue_more aaah
01:35 rue_more if you work out what a 6 jaw is needed for drop me a tip
01:35 wolfmanjm been a slow learning process
01:36 wolfmanjm to hold hex shaped objects
01:36 wolfmanjm although they work in 3 jaws
01:37 wolfmanjm yea I learned the 3 jaw is inadequate when I turned the ends of some very expensive leadscrews down to 8mm, and they were not concentric :)
01:37 wolfmanjm more like offsets cams, kind of a bummer
01:38 wolfmanjm luckily I also learned that with solid couplings you can use the stepper motor as the end bearing ;)
01:38 wolfmanjm so it worked out
01:40 rue_more you can makea dual stage offset collar set, and adjust the phase of the collars so that the rod is centreed
01:41 rue_more you could also use the 4 jaw to take it down to, say 6 and make a bushing to bring it bak up to 8
01:45 wolfmanjm actually if I decide to use bearings again I'll take it down to 1/4" as I have some 1/4" bearings, the ends are 5mm for the stepper couplings then the next shoulder is currently 8mm, but 6.25mm will be fine. But so far using the stepper motor as the end bearing is working fine
01:46 rue_more hah, sounds like your makeing a rerap
01:46 rue_more reprap
01:46 wolfmanjm but I was surprised how off my 8mm turning was
01:46 wolfmanjm yea my mini-wolfbot thrid generation wolfbot
01:47 rue_more http://www.ddmotion.com/dd/gfx/diagram2.gif
01:47 rue_more haha!
01:47 rue_more that wasn't easy to find
01:47 rue_more its not entirely what I was looking for ... whatever
01:48 wolfmanjm no I understand what you were saying, that is probably beyond my lathe skils at present
01:48 wolfmanjm although I did make some eccentric spacers that are used for vwheels, they charge $2 each for those and they are quite easy to make
01:48 wolfmanjm but will be even easier with a 4jaw chuck
01:48 rue_more if you turn one more, your likley to have damn near the exact same offset
01:49 rue_more I think my 3 jaw is out by about 1.5 thou
01:49 rue_more wolfmanjm, china lathe?
01:49 wolfmanjm yea if I turn it again I'll center it in the 4chuck based on the 5mm ends which were already on them
01:49 rue_more china lathe?
01:49 wolfmanjm yea the harbor fright mini lathe
01:49 rue_more ok
01:50 wolfmanjm It is very good for the price IMO
01:50 rue_more the 3 jaw is held to a plate that screws into the headstock
01:50 wolfmanjm yea
01:50 rue_more the chuck is heald to the plate by 4 allen bolts
01:50 wolfmanjm the 4 jaw I ordered bolts directly onto the same plate
01:50 rue_more do you have a dial indicator?
01:50 wolfmanjm yep
01:50 wolfmanjm and magnetic base for it
01:50 rue_more put the dial indicator on the surface of the 3 jaw, not the plate
01:51 rue_more zero it and rotate the chuck to see generally how far its out
01:51 wolfmanjm yea the 3 jaw is perfect
01:51 wolfmanjm but when I clamped the leadscrew it was not perfectly centered, and I presumes three jaw woul dbe self centering
01:51 rue_more back off the allen screws (not loose, just not uber tight) and tap the chuck into centre on the plate
01:51 rue_more ah, interesting
01:52 rue_more so the jaws of your 3jaw are out
01:52 wolfmanjm the chuck is well under 1 thou, the dial guage barely moves
01:52 rue_more that becomes a regirinding process
01:52 wolfmanjm yea either the jaws are out or I justdidn;t get the leadscrew centered
01:53 wolfmanjm I've done things since that were well centered but took a bit of wiggling to get them that way
01:53 rue_more you set the jaws about an inch open, and run a grinder on the inside of them at low rpm to tru them up
01:53 wolfmanjm yea I think they are ok, you just need to be careful how you set the riund stock in them
01:54 rue_more if you chuck a ground rod (or drill with a long shank) how far out is the material?
01:54 wolfmanjm if I work at it i can get it under 1thou
01:54 wolfmanjm maybe 0.5 thou
01:54 rue_more ah
01:54 wolfmanjm I loosen it rotate the stock as I close the jaws then check
01:55 wolfmanjm do that a couple of times and it usually ends up centered, I no longer take centering for granted :)
01:55 rue_more I wonder how much better you can get than that on that lathe
01:55 rue_more mark jaw 1, if you take the material out, mark where jaw 1 was
01:55 wolfmanjm well with a 4 jaw I can get it as good as the dial guage can measure, if I am patient
01:56 rue_more if you use the reverse jaws, you want everyone numbered anyhow
01:56 wolfmanjm yea they are marked and I marked the housing so I always get them back in the same slot
01:56 wolfmanjm there is another set of jaws too, but I haven't used them yet
01:57 wolfmanjm I think they are for holding th einside of cylinders
01:57 rue_more yup, they are reversed
01:57 rue_more the tall end is on the outside of the chuck
01:58 wolfmanjm I have found that it is best to leave the stock in the jasw, if I take it out to turn it around I cannot get it back exactly the same. I tried to make some solid couplers, and they were not as good as I'd like
01:58 rue_more armyofevilrobots, ...!!!...
01:59 wolfmanjm But I bought some solid couplers on ebay, and they were worse than the ones I made. I made him send me two more sets before I got two that were tolerable
01:59 rue_more oh I'm wrong
02:00 rue_more hahah, you expect a lot from china
02:02 wolfmanjm no these were from the good ol USA
02:02 wolfmanjm machined right here by a guy that obviuosly had less experence on his lathe than I do :)
02:02 rue_more heh, bets they came from china
02:03 rue_more why pay someone over $10/hr to make things when you can buy dozens of them for $5 from china
02:03 rue_more ""
02:03 wolfmanjm he used a 3 jaw chuck drilled one end 5mm then turned it around and drilled the other end 1/4" and wondered why they were not concentric
02:04 rue_more ooh
02:04 wolfmanjm https://flic.kr/p/oL1m8j you can see the problem here
02:05 wolfmanjm closer to the right side than the left, made the leadscrew wobble like a drunk sailor
02:06 wolfmanjm https://flic.kr/p/pMPnDq <-- that is the printer
02:06 rue_more well, if its not a press fit to the shaft thats not gonna come out anyhow
02:06 wolfmanjm yea that too
02:06 rue_more whats the leadscrew pitch?
02:06 wolfmanjm it was a little oversdized
02:06 wolfmanjm 25mm lead
02:07 rue_more the pitch is 25mm!?
02:07 wolfmanjm that is the 5th iteration (and last)
02:07 wolfmanjm yea
02:07 wolfmanjm started out as mostly a shapeoko
02:07 rue_more thats really low
02:08 wolfmanjm https://flic.kr/p/odhDCf <-- first iteration was an XY table
02:08 rue_more how many cuts? 4? 5?
02:08 wolfmanjm it is 10 start
02:08 wolfmanjm very high quality, expensive things
02:08 rue_more 10!
02:08 rue_more I see why they were expensive
02:08 rue_more the nuts too
02:08 wolfmanjm came with an anti backlash nut and all
02:09 rue_more so I'm guessing your about $500+ in material?
02:09 wolfmanjm not really... I traded the leadscrews for someprogramming work
02:09 wolfmanjm so they were free to me
02:09 rue_more k
02:09 wolfmanjm the shapeoko was given to me as a kit
02:10 wolfmanjm the only things I paid for were the stepper motors, and some 2060 extrusion
02:10 wolfmanjm the leadscrews were about $100 each retail
02:10 rue_more how bigs the machine?
02:11 wolfmanjm small it is my small machine, build area is 190mmx180mm
02:11 wolfmanjm built to be very accurate but small
02:11 rue_more k, so ~$200 or less in extrusion?
02:11 wolfmanjm less than $50
02:11 rue_more small stuff gets cheap
02:12 wolfmanjm not sure what the entire thing would cost retail I can do a BoM once I finish tweakin git :)
02:12 wolfmanjm my other printers are huge, the corexy is 500mm cube
02:12 wolfmanjm my delta is 1m tall and 400mm build area
02:12 wolfmanjm but I never need to print large things :)
02:13 rue_more http://ecorenovator.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/plastic_welder01.jpg
02:13 rue_more ooo someone broke theuir frying pan...
02:13 rue_more no wait...
02:13 rue_more :)
02:14 wolfmanjm I need a band saw
02:15 rue_more I need to fix mine
02:15 rue_more I got it free
02:15 rue_more the castings that hold the upper wheel had disintegrated
02:15 Veverak hmm
02:16 Veverak who was that got spider robots?
02:16 Veverak http://38.media.tumblr.com/47e65d9357c1ab852146b5f25d3228b3/tumblr_nhdph0LKlW1s02vreo1_400.gif
02:16 Veverak this one is awesome :)))
02:17 rue_more http://www.plasticweldingtools.com.au/product-category/plastic-welding-rods/abs-welding-rod-plastic-welding-rods/
02:18 rue_more I'm suspecting sales have gone down for him on those
02:18 Veverak btw: any tips for fillament .... connector?
02:18 Veverak you know... connect two fillaments together
02:18 Veverak 3mm ABS
02:19 rue_more why?
02:19 Veverak ehmm, usually end up with a short stripe of fillament on the roll...
02:20 rue_more feed the new one in as the old on runs out
02:20 rue_more maybe pause the print, move off the work, and extrude thru the transition
02:20 rue_more works for me
02:20 wolfmanjm just feed it in after the old one is what I do
02:20 Veverak hmm ok
02:20 wolfmanjm smoothie has a new feature called suspend that allows you to change filament :)
02:21 rue_more you could possibly flush cut the two, slip them both with a hot peice of sheet and butweld them, but not needed really
02:21 rue_more wolfmanjm, that would be like pause on pronterface?
02:21 wolfmanjm if it is ABS you can weld them with acetone
02:21 rue_more mm
02:22 wolfmanjm no it is more sophisticated that that, it saves the internal state, allows you to jog around, and extrude, then when you resume it restores the state and continues printing
02:22 Veverak http://richrap.blogspot.cz/2011/06/multicolour-3d-prints-and-3mm-filament.html found it!
02:23 rue_more I like that the movement commands on pronterface dont effect the zero, and that it will go back to where it was when I'm done with it
02:23 Veverak well I just thought that this way ^^ I don't have to watch the print... (so I won't miss the spot)
02:23 rue_more but, it does...
02:24 rue_more ?
02:24 rue_more if I put pause on pronterface, move the head around, extrude and whatever, when I resume, it goes back to the last point and continues...
02:25 rue_more matter a fact,w hen I knocked the carrige out, I paused, rezerod, and continued
02:25 rue_more worked great
02:25 rue_more +- there can be a bit of a cache to wait to run out
02:26 wolfmanjm I don;t think it totally restores the E position in fact I never got the restore to work at all.
02:26 rue_more the E are all relative movements
02:27 wolfmanjm not on my slicer
02:27 wolfmanjm it is all absolute
02:27 wolfmanjm and E gets reset to 0 each layer G92 E0
02:27 wolfmanjm depends on what slicer you use
02:27 rue_more heh, I thought just about everyone used slic3r
02:28 rue_more what are advantages of other ones?
02:29 Veverak slic3r can ruin your time sometimes
02:29 Veverak :)
02:30 Veverak but yeah, it's what I got for 1.2.1 I suppose
02:30 rue_more well they could use an old lesson on hpgl optimization
02:31 rue_more gogging all the way to the far side of the work for 1 small line segment and then back again,
02:31 rue_more but for everything it does, I think its pretty good
02:36 rue_more http://www.munschwelding.com/fileadmin/Prospekte/Munsch_KST_Flyer_container_2013.pdf
02:37 rue_more oooh, so it is
02:37 rue_more the hot air gun just preheats the material being welded
02:37 rue_more the drill uses friction to melt the filler material
02:37 rue_more which is why they are all built with such mean drills
02:38 wolfmanjm yea I use slic3r, it uses absolute E, resets it to 0 each layer
02:38 rue_more odd, at the top of the gcode file, mine sets to relative
02:39 rue_more maybe I should look at that closer
02:39 wolfmanjm hmm probably a setting
02:39 rue_more :) it has lots of those
02:39 wolfmanjm well it does an intial purge sometimes which would be relative
02:39 wolfmanjm but that is optional
02:39 wolfmanjm I actually use firmware retraction now anyway
02:40 wolfmanjm that is relative
02:40 rue_more damn, I want the servicve manual for that thing
02:54 rue_more haha
02:54 rue_more I thought of soemthing new to design/print
02:54 rue_more surface area balls for algee collection in fish tanks
03:16 Tom_itx bio balls
03:17 Tom_itx better make sure the plastic is fish comaptible
03:17 Veverak rue_more: got your psychorobot?
03:18 rue_bed I"m working on ai's
03:18 Veverak well
03:18 Veverak I suppose I should do some work on mine
03:19 rue_bed aparently were up to worm, and I just dont think an insane worm is something anyone would find inntimidating
03:19 Veverak well
03:19 Veverak I've got one goal
03:19 Veverak track robot capable of 100km/h
03:19 Veverak maybe one day :D
03:20 rue_bed that would crash pretty hard
03:20 Veverak yeah, but it would be awesome :)
03:21 Veverak https://cloud.veverak.org/public.php?service=files&t=1de761f149ffbb1378844757d8ab9dba
03:21 Veverak now this is where I would like little inspiration
03:21 verak needs to mount these wheels to robot osm
03:22 Veverak they are in rows, so normally I would put mounting plate to space inbetween the rows
03:22 Veverak but!
03:22 Veverak my printer got limited printing space (20x20cm)
03:22 Veverak so I can't put single piece mounting plate and have to figure out some system
03:27 Veverak but well.. not enough space to do anything fancy :D
04:00 rue_bed you just have to stop trying to a) print every part of the project b) make every printed part one peice
04:01 rue_bed and maybe c) make parts that are completely filled blocks when they can have holes or such to skelatonize them and make them use less plastic
04:01 rue_bed most of the things on thingverse use WAY too much plastic
04:12 Veverak well
04:13 Veverak I usually prefer slic3r settings over making manual holes :)
04:13 Veverak yeah, b) is exactly what I will do noww
04:13 Veverak a) don't havy really many other wasy of creating parts
04:14 Veverak so either I buy or print
04:23 rue_bed slicer settings cant save you near as much plastic as a well designed part
04:24 rue_bed for example, instead of printing a part that has two big ends on a long plastic rod, print the ends to fit a metal rod that can be cut to the needed length
04:25 rue_bed not EVERYTHING has to be printed
04:25 Veverak yeah, I know that
04:25 Veverak but
04:25 Veverak rue_bed: find something I don't have to print on that model
04:25 rue_bed its just drives me crazy
04:25 Veverak :)
04:25 rue_bed which model?
04:25 rue_bed the printer?
04:25 Veverak https://cloud.veverak.org/public.php?service=files&t=1de761f149ffbb1378844757d8ab9dba
04:25 polygraphed zondeminder, motion, these just aren't good tools, they're not built with the unix philosophy.
04:26 Veverak rue_bed: btw: creating working tracks is sort of goal of the project, so buying them is no... option
04:27 rue_bed k, tracks can be made of links
04:27 rue_bed thats not a verry complete model...
04:27 Veverak yet! :D
04:27 Veverak but yeah, because I used airless wheel for suspension... I don't have to care about "proper" suspension so it's much simpler
04:28 rue_bed sure
04:28 rue_bed so, how many of these robots are you going to make?
04:28 Veverak well
04:28 Veverak prototype
04:28 rue_bed and then?
04:28 Veverak and if I found out that it works pretty well maybe more? :)
04:29 Veverak my idea is to have .... platform for other projects
04:29 rue_bed hmm, people sure are putting a lot of design time into one-offs these days
04:29 Veverak well
04:29 Veverak it's not supposed to be oneoff
04:29 rue_bed how long you put into designing it so far
04:30 Veverak it's just that I am realistic and the idea that it would be used many times is nice... but I know it's not 100% that it will
04:30 rue_bed I realtime desgined and built a robot arm finished in 20 hours
04:30 Veverak but I will try to make it so it's awesome and people will use it :)
04:30 rue_bed a one off
04:30 Veverak rue_bed: a lot
04:30 rue_bed no cad designing
04:30 Veverak but that's because it's parametric design
04:30 rue_bed I just made what I needed to
04:30 Veverak you put different numbers into it and it reshapes itself
04:31 verak can increase the length of the robot, number of rows of wheels, their dia, track properties anyt
04:31 rue_bed yup
04:31 Veverak hit button and voiala, CAD model done and list with parts I need
04:32 Veverak but yeah, it's not ment to be ... most effecient work, it's my hobby to do it this way
04:32 rue_bed it amuses me that in the time and budget I build 5 robots, some people design 1/3 of one, and sometimes they never finish it
04:33 Veverak well yeah
04:33 verak doesn't mind
04:33 Veverak :D
04:33 rue_bed :)
04:33 Veverak I like the design proces, so why don't do it?
04:33 rue_bed as long as were all having fun!
04:33 Veverak I learned na lot of things
04:33 rue_bed I made a series of robot arms
04:33 Veverak had to thought a lot about it... so :)
04:33 Veverak rue_bed: well, I was never fan of robot arms :D
04:34 rue_bed and started to notice generic parts, that I make a spec for and made extra
04:34 rue_bed the last robot had almost no design, it was just an assembly job
04:34 rue_bed I'm gonna go back and design a bunch of the parts for a 3d printer
04:34 Veverak I suppose that's what you got when you got experience with specific robots :)
04:35 rue_bed everything is already known, wont take more than a few hours to do
04:35 rue_bed lots of the methods came from other projects
04:35 rue_bed my new thing is bowden cables
04:35 rue_bed I think I like them
04:35 Veverak bowden cables?
04:36 Veverak oh, I see
04:36 rue_bed yea, when you put a cable thru a pipe to make it do something you want done somewhere else
04:36 Veverak yeah
04:36 Veverak well, I love it on my dremell
04:36 Veverak put I don't feel like it when used in places where you need no backlash
04:36 rue_bed fixing the safety brake on my lawnmower taught me that they can change the relative point of motion too
04:37 rue_bed at one end, the pipe can be stationary and the cable moves, on the other the cable is stationary and the pipe moves
04:37 rue_bed that tipped me out for a sec
04:37 rue_bed tripped
04:37 Veverak movement is relative :)
04:38 rue_bed you cant do that moving the cable around with pullies
04:38 rue_bed as the robots get larger, I'm playing with air muscles
04:39 Veverak yeah
04:39 rue_bed which I think can prolly do some neat stuff
04:39 verak prefers small thing
04:39 rue_bed I'm big
04:39 rue_bed 8.5"x11" is a small robot for me
04:40 rue_bed I hvae the mockup of the mecha inspiring me
04:40 Veverak :D
04:40 Veverak fuuuu
04:40 Veverak why
04:40 Veverak why I look at RC news anyway?
04:40 Veverak only thing that I do after that is that I cry "suckers, they just copy each other and are not able to figure out anything new"
04:40 rue_bed cause when you 12' tall, the gutters are easier to reach to clean out
04:40 rue_bed and large boxes are easier to carry
04:40 Veverak well yeah
04:40 verak got 170cm heig
04:41 Veverak :)
04:41 rue_bed 12'
04:42 rue_bed http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/sparrow1/p1040018.jpg
04:42 Veverak lol
04:42 Veverak :D
04:42 rue_bed thats how big a 12' mecha is
04:42 rue_bed your head can clear its crotch
04:43 rue_bed but when its lying down, it dosn't seem that big at all
04:43 Veverak nah too big for me
04:44 rue_bed http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/sparrow1/p1040015.jpg
04:44 rue_bed its a verry workable size
04:44 Veverak most of my robot like creatues
04:44 Veverak are and will be "table" size :D
04:44 rue_bed http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/sparrow1/p1030901.jpg
04:44 rue_bed hand :)
04:45 Veverak :D
04:45 rue_bed it'll prolly be... squarer tho
04:45 Veverak well
04:45 Veverak I have "crystalized" the idea how to mount that wheels, let's get back to CADing :)
04:46 rue_bed http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/sparrow1/lg_puppet_master_locatornaming.jpg
04:47 rue_bed look the movie industry is doing lots of the work for me
04:48 Veverak puppet :D
05:14 DagoRed .shrink
05:14 makepi DagoRed: http://goo.gl/bIE4BS
05:48 Veverak done
05:48 Veverak rue_bed: https://cloud.veverak.org/public.php?service=files&t=fc847d16e679fa3a4166b7f15a026772
05:48 Veverak maybe this is too many pieces
05:48 Veverak but it will be the most practical way I can imagine
05:48 Veverak and I can create the connect parts between these holders from different things then 3d printed
13:08 armyofevilrobots rue_more: rue_shop4 : 3.0 Black is here :D
13:36 armyofevilrobots Oooh: http://www.filabot.com/collections/filabot-core/products/filabot-spooler
14:15 rue_bed armyofevilrobots, wow and... wtf!
14:16 rue_bed oh wait, nowonder, being bought by companies like dupont, nasa, ... !?! srsly?
14:33 rue_more GuShH, seen descent manual duplicator jigs for a lathe?
14:40 rue_more armyofevilrobots, how does everything look?
14:41 rue_more armyofevilrobots, need any 8mm ground rod?
14:41 rue_more casue I just got 7 impact printers
14:42 rue_more full of steppers, sliders, and control panels
15:53 GuShH rue_more: copiers similar to taper attachments?
15:53 GuShH they are pretty much the same, but some are hydraulic or require other type of preload
15:53 GuShH I don't know if springs would work
16:09 GuShH hydraulic copiers are neat
16:53 rue_more no, like a profile tracer
16:58 GuShH rue_more: yeah, and it needs to keep constant pressure against the shape because it's in charge of your slide, such as a taper attachment makes it 100% captive to the rail
16:59 GuShH I'd like to make the latter, but that means moving the lathe so I can access the rear... I'd just do it to one of the other lathes
16:59 GuShH massive storm today :(
16:59 GuShH hope those tarps are keeping the machines dry heh
17:00 GuShH I noticed something, which may be obvious to some...
17:00 GuShH the main issue with tarping is the condensation
17:00 GuShH humidity from the ground condensating inside the tarp, all around the machine itself
17:00 GuShH so sealing the underside of a pedestal or using two tarps would be required to fully seal a machine outside
17:01 GuShH I noticed it because I got surface rust on some parts that were not actually oiled at the time
17:01 GuShH with the heat of the sun the condensate turns to steam and that gets everywhere.
17:01 GuShH anyway I got the collet nut loose the other day, had to forge a C spanner for it
17:02 GuShH I think I can use two types of collet, but I need a smaller slide tube for the spindle if I want to use the longer ones
17:03 GuShH I have split collets that use a spring between each face (3 part collets) and one part collets that use the springiness of the steel itself to open back up, but these are longer and often have plastic bushings on the back, so you need a smaller inside tube to accomodate them
17:03 GuShH I'll need to mod it so I can use the big ones, I have some hexagonal collets I need
17:03 GuShH also some square ones which are kinda rare now :/
17:04 GuShH would be nice to make square head screws
17:04 GuShH I actually like them, but can't source them, so I replace everything with SHCS
18:17 GuShH rue_more: I really need those gear tumblers...
18:17 GuShH I'ma take a look at how to pull it off without doing a lot of damage
18:17 GuShH I noticed the older models came with a stud that allowed you to manually set the gears in reverse
18:17 GuShH for those one-off left screw operations
18:18 GuShH which to me sounds awesome, too bad they don't come like that anymore, but it gave me the idea that maybe I could do just that, without too much modding
18:18 GuShH of course a proper tumbler is ideal, they all seem to use the 45T gear
18:19 armyofevilrobots rue_more: I am good for rod right now, thx. :) I finally found out what gibsons fasteners doesn’t have in stock: 2-56 or M2.5 and smaller screws. I guess they don’t get a lot of watchmakers.
20:02 rue_more :)
20:03 rue_more they used to carry 4-40, the last few 4-40 things we had to order in
20:17 armyofevilrobots They have some 4-40, but that’s the smallest.
20:17 armyofevilrobots If you’re off tomorrow, I’ll drop by with the PLA.
20:23 rue_more yup I'm still out sick, tho not by much
