00:12 rue_shop3 so fire your gripper at me if you want
00:12 rue_shop3 arg, I avhe to be in bed in 5 mins
00:12 rue_shop3 ARG, the clock was wrong, that was 6 mins ago
00:19 rue_shop3 ok, this carrige WILL trim my range, but not by anything that matters
00:20 RifRaf sorry forgot i was gonna send you file, let me fix a few things and send it later, i had to restart it
00:20 RifRaf unless you want it now to try
00:20 RifRaf pm me an email addy or something
00:30 rue_shop3 RifRaf, I just found out that any kinda power dip causes the avr to reset :)
00:30 rue_shop3 so the laser printer is unplugged and I switched from a 120V fan to a 12V one
00:31 RifRaf rue_more, wats the avr powered from? usb?
00:32 RifRaf power it from 12v instead
00:32 RifRaf well from the stepper motor supply
00:44 rue_more well, insteretsing enough, its usb powered with ac backup
00:44 rue_more 9V on the backup
00:45 rue_more when the power bumps, from something like the cooling fan turning on./off it would cause the avr to reset
00:52 rue_more meshcad does so much better of a rendering job on that than scad
00:59 rue_more huh, openscad has rendering issues
02:37 SquirrelCZECH pics1
02:37 SquirrelCZECH sorry! ::) wront window
09:23 rue_more 4 eyed aliens make that error a lot
09:43 SquirrelCZECH ?
19:14 Tom_itx BOO!
19:34 rue_shop3 so, I'm gonna guess the Y creep is becasue of the plastic bushings, gonna change them out now
19:36 Tom_itx with what?
19:36 Tom_itx more plastic bushings?
19:36 Tom_itx or linear bearings?
19:37 Tom_itx probably not gonna have my local tool guy much longer
19:38 rue_shop3 plastic bushing Lmuu8
19:38 rue_shop3 going out of business sale?
19:38 Tom_itx went to get some shoulder bolts from him yesterday
19:38 Tom_itx he's lucky to still be alive
19:38 rue_shop3 heart?
19:39 Tom_itx cancer
19:39 Tom_itx he'd moved back to his small shop since last time i went
19:39 Tom_itx almost didn't recognize him
19:40 Tom_itx http://img.directindustry.com/images_di/photo-g/shoulder-screw-15596-2748349.jpg
19:41 Tom_itx wonder why those aren't used to hold bearings more
19:41 Tom_itx never see em in cheap cnc designs
19:50 rue_shop3 odd, the rods I had in there are 8.00mm but the LMuu8 dont fit right
19:50 rue_shop3 found some rod that they do
19:50 rue_shop3 all precision ground rod...
19:56 rue_shop3 hmm they slid pretty easy
19:56 rue_shop3 oh well
19:56 Tom_itx not oversize?
19:57 Tom_itx those plastic LMUU8 should have some give to them
19:57 Tom_itx they're ribbed inside aren't they?
19:59 Tom_itx is PLA a better bearing material or ABS?
20:12 rue_shop3 aparently not enough
20:12 rue_shop3 I dont know pla
20:12 rue_shop3 who is more oily?
20:13 Tom_itx dunno
20:13 Tom_itx you should
20:13 orlock almost got my i3 there
20:13 rue_shop3 well, as it turns out, testing, I found out its a chafeing issue with the pulley on the other end of the belt
20:13 rue_shop3 it almost brings to to a completel stop
20:13 rue_shop3 by hand
20:13 orlock got about ..5 or so bolts to bolt in for endstop holders
20:13 rue_shop3 orlock, pictures!
20:13 orlock some wires
20:13 Tom_itx maybe it needs better alignment
20:13 Tom_itx or pulley spacing
20:14 orlock and the replace shaft couplers with fuel line
20:14 Tom_itx do you both have the same printer?
20:14 orlock rue_shop3: stupid kit came with a flexible 5mm to 8mm coupler
20:14 orlock rue_shop3: BOTH SHAFTS ARE 5MM
20:14 Tom_itx make another one
20:14 Tom_itx i got a 5mm reamer
20:15 orlock I'll just use fuel line, should have about the right id
20:15 Tom_itx just so it don't slip
20:16 rue_shop3 its a bearing with static washers and its rubbing and sticking
20:16 Tom_itx so fix the washer
20:16 Tom_itx or use shoulder bolts like i showed you
20:16 rue_shop3 its not the washers fault its the design of the whole thing
20:16 rue_shop3 which image?
20:17 m_itx senses a printer redesign in rue_shop3's fu
20:18 rue_shop3 error 498: file does not exist yet
20:24 rue_shop3 the printer came with a snap togethor pulley for a 608 but it wouldn't snap so I threw it aside as useless, but I just made it snap and added it
20:24 Tom_itx heh
20:24 Tom_itx are 608 standard for those printers?
20:25 Tom_itx is there a file with all your plastic parts in it?
20:38 rue_shop3 yes
20:38 rue_shop3 not of the parts I got
20:38 rue_shop3 it was a kit by
20:38 rue_shop3 avdwege2003 on ebay
20:38 rue_shop3 its a customized ket
20:40 rue_shop3 the current kit isn't mine
20:40 rue_shop3 different extruder for sure
20:47 orlock rue: http://dark.crypt.net.au/Prusai3/
20:54 Tom_itx oooo you got real bearings!
20:54 orlock 5 too many lm800's
20:54 orlock the 608's were flanged
20:55 orlock lm8uu's even
20:55 Tom_itx damn those pics are huge!
20:55 orlock and i think i dropped one of the MF105ZZ's
20:55 orlock but Rif says they are not required
20:55 orlock the MF105ZZ's were for X and Y belt idlers
20:55 Tom_itx how much was your kit?
20:56 orlock and i _think_ to support top of the Z rod? but that wasnt required apparently
20:56 orlock $490au
20:56 Tom_itx printed directions?
20:57 orlock none at all, no BoM or manifest, vendor didnt know what modems the printed parts were
20:57 orlock models, even
20:57 Tom_itx here's a bag full of parts... figure it out!
20:57 orlock yeah
20:58 Tom_itx that really sucks
20:59 Tom_itx no links to pics of assembled ones?
20:59 Tom_itx is that all the electronics too?
21:00 Tom_itx looks like it.. a 2560 and a ramps board
21:02 orlock Tom_itx: yeah, the boro glass plate and filament was extra
21:02 orlock added another pic of the MF105ZZ
21:02 Tom_itx did you get PLA or ABS?
21:03 orlock pla
21:03 orlock http://dark.crypt.net.au/Prusai3/7.html
21:03 orlock also i forgot washers inder the bolts holding the frame together
21:04 orlock the hobbed bolt was very so-so
21:07 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, how much shrinkage is there on pla? %?
21:12 Tom_itx are those plexi parts files available?
21:12 Tom_itx i could machine those...
21:12 Tom_itx once i get my cnc back together...
21:12 rue_shop3 I'v not gone into it
21:13 rue_shop3 thingverse has a few of the mendel data sets
21:13 rue_shop3 I think Triffid_Hunter made his origional parts from wood
21:13 Tom_itx he did
21:13 rue_shop3 which would be lots better than the plastic
21:13 Tom_itx i've seen his
21:13 Tom_itx why?
21:14 Tom_itx i could machine wood too
21:14 rue_shop3 could be more ridgid
21:14 Tom_itx i could machine aluminum too
21:14 rue_shop3 esp if its like scraps of oak
21:14 rue_shop3 hows your machine?
21:14 Tom_itx sad
21:14 Tom_itx no boards
21:14 rue_shop3 hmm
21:14 rue_shop3 did you get the power rails going?
21:14 Tom_itx need at least one new one
21:14 Tom_itx i haven't messed with the box at all
21:14 rue_shop3 damn
21:15 rue_shop3 no I mean the 3.3 and 1.8V supplies on the baord
21:15 Tom_itx no
21:15 rue_shop3 thats a good place to start
21:15 Tom_itx i can't do those parts
21:15 Tom_itx too small for me
21:15 Tom_itx with a center pad
21:15 rue_shop3 damn
21:15 rue_shop3 do they get that hot?
21:15 Tom_itx i might be able to toaster em but i've been too busy lately to do anything
21:15 Tom_itx i doubt they get hot
21:16 rue_shop3 then they prolly dont much need the center pad
21:16 Tom_itx kinda like you... i may not see the sun tomorrow
21:16 rue_shop3 heh
21:17 rue_shop3 I bought 100 2 screw headers and those damn chinese individually wrapped each one
21:17 Tom_itx doin one on sat too
21:17 Tom_itx yeah those hammond boxes come that way too
21:17 e_shop3 sits here shucking electonic p
21:17 Tom_itx the 2 screws are bag sealed
21:18 Tom_itx hide.. quick!
21:18 e_shop3 puts it
21:19 Tom_itx * RifRaf has joined #robotics
21:19 Tom_itx i could try those parts since the board is junk now anyway
21:20 rue_shop3 ok I have white, black, green, blue and red headers
21:20 Tom_itx i'd have to bump up the temp on the oven to desolder the RoHs parts
21:20 rue_shop3 Tom_itx, see if you can get the 3.3 and 1.8 power up
21:21 Tom_itx one day i will try
21:21 Tom_itx not today
21:21 Tom_itx i have parts
21:21 Tom_itx he sent them to me
21:22 rue_shop3 so tom, I had a question come up on my calibration, "how wide IS the extrusion from the tip"
21:22 rue_shop3 and I realized its the same thing as my xy plotter
21:22 orlock rue: which bit of canadia are you from?
21:22 Tom_itx east
21:22 Tom_itx err west i mean
21:22 rue_shop3 I need to make a pattern with ever increasing line spacing and find the first place the two lines touch
21:22 m_itx flips the map upside
21:23 rue_shop3 'going out west where I belong'
21:25 RifRaf i did join, wats up
21:26 RifRaf not here for long, of to the city for weekend
21:27 Tom_itx where you workin at now RifRaf?
21:27 RifRaf back at my old job
21:27 Tom_itx no cnc?
21:28 RifRaf yes same machine,tekcel
21:28 RifRaf still driving machines
21:28 Tom_itx i forgot which one that was
21:28 RifRaf same size bed, bit slower
21:29 RifRaf the machine i used to make all the frames and stuff on
21:29 Tom_itx ahh
21:29 Tom_itx how many of those did you make up?
21:29 RifRaf lots, just been doing the Y carriage plates lately though, less hassle
21:29 RifRaf have a box of em still
21:30 RifRaf the frames
21:30 rue_shop3 RifRaf, whats your overextrude after retract set to? I have mine at 0.3mm and its still nto enough
21:34 RifRaf o i think
21:34 RifRaf 0
21:35 RifRaf extra length on retract?
21:35 RifRaf yep 0, and 3mm retract at moment, been trying this PLA stuff
21:37 RifRaf later
21:47 rue_shop3 I think I'm gonna use AC for the bed power
21:47 rue_shop3 why use nice regulated dc?
21:48 Tom_itx good call
21:48 Jak_o_Shadows easier to pwm?
21:48 Tom_itx get one of those heat pads
22:05 reek Ehm. Hello? I'm kinda newbie, and im kinda lost. I want to build a small robot, just for fun of it, but I dont have any idea about how to start or what to do. Sould I buy an arduino board? Or a breadbord? Or should I install some kind of emulation software, like webots? Or what? Could you please put me on the right track? Im familiar with few programming languages like java, python, c, c++, a bit of assembly,
22:05 reek and i also know something about chips, but i just dont have a plan of how do I start.
23:05 armyofevilrobots rue_shop3, sorry for slow response. PLA shrinks about 1-2%, but that's not the whole story. It has a really low glass transition temperature, so the layers can still slip/stretch against each other when they are close to the heated bed, so the warping is prevented by just adhering well to the plate.
23:05 armyofevilrobots ABS has a way higher glass transition temperature, so it really wants to lift.
23:07 armyofevilrobots I would strongly recommend enabling the "brim" feature of slic3r too.
23:08 armyofevilrobots anyhow, the shrinkage of PLA from glass transition to room temperature is like a third of the shrinkage of ABS from glass to room, just because of the huge difference between those points.
23:09 armyofevilrobots (and those #s are pulled out of my butt, I have read up on it, but I might be misrepresenting it a bit).
23:16 rue_shop3 hmm
23:16 rue_shop3 I'm trying to adjust nozel size/fudge factor/nozzel temp and I'm just chasing my tail
23:17 rue_shop3 at 180c the pla is comming out with lots of bubbles, it dosn't at the ~120c I was using
23:17 rue_shop3 but the temp totally effects the extrusion size
23:17 rue_shop3 arg
23:19 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, I started trying to get rid of the strings
23:42 armyofevilrobots rue_shop3: Retraction. You need some :)
23:42 armyofevilrobots If you were extruding at 120C, then it isn't pla, or your hot end isn't calibrated.
23:43 armyofevilrobots if it is really 180C, then you have very wet pla, but it's probably much hotter and degrading the plastic.
23:43 armyofevilrobots Is it foamy?
23:43 armyofevilrobots occasional pops is water, foamy is plastic degrading from too hot extrusion.
23:44 armyofevilrobots PLA should extrude from 180-195C. It'll be degrading by 205C or so.
23:48 rue_more I have 3mm of retration now
23:48 rue_more hmm
23:49 rue_more I wonder if my thermometer is out
23:50 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, you still have electricity?
23:50 rue_shop3 hold you breath :)
23:52 rue_shop3 oh, according to my other meter I'm at 237
23:52 rue_shop3 what?
23:56 tWorthCr4p watched the robot movie preview at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXwichuGW28
23:57 rue_shop3 haha
23:57 rue_shop3 so the calibration is out in such a way the tip is hotter than it thinks
23:58 rue_shop3 if I dial it down to wehre it should be, it stops extruding
