00:16 RifRaf rue_shop4, how big is the nozzle hole again?
00:16 rue_shop4 1mm right now
00:17 rue_shop4 I'm not using my .34
00:17 RifRaf well 1mm is way to big for a beginner
00:17 RifRaf so you are going to complain about all these irrelevant issues now :/
00:18 RifRaf no wonder your 0.5mm walls looked like they were so wide
00:18 rue_shop4 well yea
00:19 rue_shop4 but it was overextrudign them too
00:19 RifRaf so change it next time you play with extruder
00:19 rue_shop4 the multiplier is at .71 now, I had it at 3
00:20 RifRaf time to assemble my new robot doll
00:20 rue_shop4 its a quick unscrew/screwin
00:21 RifRaf do it
00:21 RifRaf at least then we can deal with normal questions in a normal way
00:21 rue_shop4 not yet
00:21 rue_shop4 but I understand what your saying
00:21 RifRaf 1mm nozzle would be for mass production of very simple parts
00:21 rue_shop4 I like 1mm beacsue the plastic definitly comes out
00:21 rue_shop4 I understand
00:22 RifRaf this is not about vomiting plastic
00:22 rue_shop4 its a way to start
00:23 RifRaf you starting, now do it right
00:23 RifRaf started*
00:38 rue_shop4 ok, its a night
00:41 RifRaf not quite
00:42 rue_more is for the printer!
00:42 rue_more I'll get your images up
00:42 rue_more eatsomething
00:42 rue_more and sleeeeep
00:42 RifRaf ok getting a new image here too
00:43 rue_more haha oh no, they are all in full rez, this will take a while
00:48 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1060919.jpg
00:48 RifRaf http://i.imgur.com/D2g28nu.jpg

00:48 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1060927.jpg
00:48 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1060930.jpg
00:48 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1060931.jpg
00:48 rue_more -end-
00:50 RifRaf sure is extruding
00:50 RifRaf see my new friends mixed in with your links?
00:50 rue_more yea
00:50 rue_more looks good
00:50 rue_more I'm looking forward to not having artifacts in the sides
00:51 rue_more I dont know if moisture got into the plastic or if its something else
00:51 RifRaf yep stick it in a warm dry place
00:51 RifRaf oven is a bit hot i hear even on low, hot water heater or something?
00:52 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/main.html
00:52 rue_more oh its the build
00:54 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/slide.htm <-- for anyone lazy
00:55 RifRaf got all the modern web technology these days don't cha :)
00:56 rue_more it skirts around the -no preview image- issue
01:02 rue_more RifRaf, do you have a 20mm box to show off?
01:02 RifRaf nope, all chucked out
01:02 RifRaf could print one in about 45 min, this plate almost done
01:03 rue_more dont for me, I'm about to go to bed
01:03 RifRaf ok, i'll print the other 1/2 of next robot then
01:04 RifRaf then i am done with them and moving on, was a godd challenge though
01:04 rue_more did you see how much robot grippers sell for on ebay?
01:04 RifRaf not much
01:04 rue_more like $13 and up
01:04 RifRaf you mean like small printed ones?
01:05 RifRaf i made a good printed version
01:05 rue_more ebay -> "robot gripper"
01:05 RifRaf thought about selling them
01:05 RifRaf will find pic maybe
01:05 rue_more I can make money with the ones I used for that much
01:06 rue_more I'd like to know how the designer of my machines parts attached the zero sensoes
01:06 RifRaf all the rivets are abs filament as well http://i.imgur.com/VJu1AoB.jpg
01:07 rue_more hah, wickid!
01:07 rue_more you design that one?
01:08 RifRaf will give you the files
01:08 RifRaf yep
01:08 rue_more sketchup?
01:08 RifRaf partly i think yes, and used a gear generator
01:08 RifRaf but there are plugins that do similar now
01:09 RifRaf i actually used the work cam program now that i think of it
01:09 rue_more how did you get it out?
01:09 rue_more stl?
01:10 RifRaf yep, exported dxf to sketchup and then extruded parts, then stl export
01:11 RifRaf i can save as stl though from the cam softwares
01:11 RifRaf but drawing in 3d is not as much fun
01:12 rue_more wow
01:12 rue_more are they basically 2d parts then?
01:12 rue_more no,t he fingers aren't
01:12 RifRaf yep, with one ot 2 different levels
01:12 rue_more oh
01:13 rue_more the texture is just the slicer infill?
01:13 RifRaf the fingers may have 3 levels of extrudion
01:13 RifRaf yep, early print, would be prettyier now, will print a pink one to test files for you
01:13 RifRaf after i dig em out
01:13 rue_more then see how much it sells on ebay for
01:13 RifRaf only have 2 colours here at moment, pink and clear
01:13 rue_more just for kix
01:14 rue_more clear one would be cool
01:14 RifRaf yep will make one as well
01:14 rue_more I like the skelaton effect
01:14 RifRaf clear with pink rivets, and pink with clear rivets
01:14 rue_more pink rivet
01:14 rue_more you use 3mm of 1.75?
01:15 RifRaf 3
01:15 rue_more so why 3
01:15 rue_more I chose 3 to avoid binding
01:15 RifRaf just always have, its also better in the triplestruder
01:15 rue_more huh
01:15 RifRaf my extruder is a triple i made
01:15 rue_more yea
01:15 rue_more you been busy
01:16 RifRaf and uses massive retractions, so the firmer filament is better
01:16 rue_more ah
01:16 rue_more is there a little mixing between switchse?
01:16 RifRaf gets less chewed up as it goes over the hobb many times
01:16 RifRaf yes but i prime that out
01:16 RifRaf so no real mixing, just some waste
01:17 rue_more you have a dump spot?
01:17 RifRaf but you get used to wasting plastic
01:17 rue_more I have a pretty good pile so far
01:17 RifRaf yes mid air for now, off the plate, with a wiper to make sure it stays off the plate
01:17 RifRaf wastes alot less than a priming tower
01:19 rue_more I have a pretty good pile going sofar
01:20 rue_more I was doing some mid air extrusion to see how it coems out the tip
01:20 rue_more mostly straight
01:20 RifRaf thats good
01:20 rue_more I take it curling would be bad
01:21 RifRaf yep, means you have some obstruction generally
01:21 RifRaf and makes bridging etc very hard
01:23 rue_more or the hole is off
01:24 rue_more I wonder if its better to have sharp or dull hole edges
01:28 rue_more I hav the funny feeling I was supposed to be at the cop shop to help them do a fire alarm test
03:44 Tom_itx good stuff rue_bed
04:26 RifRaf Tom_itx, a few hobbs for you to look at since you are making them
04:26 RifRaf http://i.imgur.com/tXniONG.jpg
04:27 RifRaf i like the center one in stainless these days
04:27 RifRaf for a wades, on the current extruder and using short ones like you make, they wer from trinity labs but they don't exist now
04:28 RifRaf like on here http://i.imgur.com/Wr1tiUs.jpg
06:36 Tom_itx 6mm bolt?
06:57 Tom_itx rue_more, you must replace the limit switch stop with a PLA one!
06:58 Tom_itx btw, how sturdy is that thing? it looks like it would wobble back and forth quite a bit when the table moves
08:48 rue_bed its good, dont seeany movement
08:48 rue_bed dosn't move that fast, you have to give the plastic time to cool as the print goes
08:49 rue_bed hmm, another dream I bought land with a second house on it
09:22 rue_more bought it with renters, and was checking in to see if there were any repairs needed
09:32 rue_more http://thingiverse-production.s3.amazonaws.com/renders/1e/05/14/6e/af/Foto_1_display_large_preview_featured.jpg
09:32 rue_more RifRaf, I suppose a flip away feeder lets you pull out problems
11:32 GuShH rue_more: do you recall seeing any patents or drawings of capstan lathes? exploded views or such, I'm missing a part and I'd like to get some inspiration
11:39 GuShH well I asked at the "kinda local" forum
11:39 GuShH they're as nuts as I am, if not even more nuts.
11:39 GuShH for instance a guy went to jail for smuggling a lathe through the border...
11:40 GuShH that's what I call love.
19:28 DarthMachinist any related channels?
19:29 Tom_itx seattlerobotics
19:37 rue_more no
19:53 rue_more http://hackaday.com/2014/12/05/e-waste-printer-looks-nice-prints-really-really-small/#comment-2215934
19:54 Tom_itx to what purpose?
19:57 DarthMachinist did he slap together the entire assembly?
19:57 DarthMachinist that's hillarious and interesting
19:59 rue_more makes me want to make a miro mendel
19:59 rue_more micro
20:00 rue_more RifRaf, what next, back to the .34 head?
20:02 DarthMachinist oh man, I haven't looked at reprap in years
20:03 rue_more how can you avoid it
20:03 DarthMachinist cool project, I'd love to make a milling machine, or even a cnc router
20:03 rue_more they are everywhre
20:03 rue_more I built mine because I dont want to be the only person on the block without one
20:03 DarthMachinist lol
20:03 DarthMachinist I have access to one
20:04 rue_more I suppose I'll go futz with mine more
20:04 Tom_itx make it reproduce
20:05 rue_more I want a 0.5 bit, but my drills go from .34 to 1
20:05 Tom_itx what inch bit would that be?
20:05 Tom_itx number bit i'm sure
20:05 DarthMachinist I used to be really into that project
20:06 rue_more hmm #76ish
20:06 DarthMachinist like, I probably read every single post on the forum
20:06 Tom_itx i likely have one of those
20:06 rue_more into it is having one
20:06 rue_more I have #80
20:06 Tom_itx yeah i have a few of those
20:06 rue_more or I did till last I sneezed
20:06 Tom_itx hard to hold
20:07 rue_more 1/8" shank
20:07 Tom_itx mine are #80 all the way
20:07 rue_more oo
20:07 Tom_itx maybe one of the mill cutters would be small enough
20:08 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/etching/mills1.jpg
20:08 Tom_itx i forget what the small one was
20:10 Tom_itx rue_more
20:10 Tom_itx what do you suggest i do upon reassembly of my boards?
20:10 Tom_itx to test the box
20:10 Tom_itx i tested the SSR going to the spindle motor and it's still working
20:11 Tom_itx so it wasn't coming from the spindle power
20:12 rue_shop4 hmm
20:12 rue_shop4 I think that the 120 neutral failed on one side of the link to the pc
20:12 Tom_itx i will add a better chassis ground
20:12 Tom_itx yeah that's what i heard
20:13 rue_shop4 disonnect the pc from the router, power it up, measure the voltage ground frame to ground, make sure the case isnt' going hot
20:14 Tom_itx ground from the actual plug?
20:14 Tom_itx to frame
20:14 rue_shop4 the mains power should not be ABLE to get to ground, but I seen it happen twice
20:14 rue_shop4 whatever is a realiable ground
20:17 Tom_itx making a better chassis ground in the control box should remedy that right?
20:20 rue_shop4 no
20:21 rue_shop4 not if the computer raises its ground by 120V
20:21 Tom_itx then what would?
20:21 rue_shop4 well
20:21 rue_shop4 I'd do some tests
20:21 Tom_itx if the ground in the control is a good ground it would short the pc ground to ground
20:21 rue_shop4 it definitly happened
20:21 rue_shop4 and it happend for a reason
20:22 Tom_itx but i have no way of knowing exactly where it came from
20:22 Tom_itx nobody really does
20:22 rue_shop4 in my case a) the monitor lost its neutral and used the RGB lines, which fried the video chip
20:22 rue_shop4 yea, you can do measurements to see if a cause still exists
20:22 Tom_itx i found one loose wire but there was nothing around to to short to that i can see
20:23 Tom_itx it was a signal wire
20:23 Tom_itx dead if unhooked
20:23 rue_shop4 the buffers on the PC side were fried, right?
20:23 Tom_itx the rs422 buffers were
20:23 Tom_itx they go to the control
20:23 Tom_itx afik
20:24 rue_shop4 not what I'm asking
20:24 rue_shop4 there is a card in the PC, right?
20:24 Tom_itx no
20:24 Tom_itx parport
20:24 rue_shop4 ah
20:24 Tom_itx all the stuff is in the box
20:24 rue_shop4 pc parport -> fpga card -> 422 cards
20:24 Tom_itx the parport was the absolute only link between the two
20:24 Tom_itx yes
20:24 rue_shop4 and the parport still works?
20:25 Tom_itx i haven't tried it but i bet it does
20:25 rue_shop4 test it out
20:25 Tom_itx i plan to
20:25 rue_shop4 have a led lightbox?
20:25 Tom_itx it's been too cold out theret o mess around
20:25 Tom_itx i used to have your parport test thing
20:25 Tom_itx dunno where the code went
20:26 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/parport/
20:26 Tom_itx that
20:26 Tom_itx he kindly is sending me some chips
20:28 rue_shop4 only a high votlage or a reverse polarity can do that damage
20:28 rue_shop4 you said the 5V regulator did not fail...
20:28 Tom_itx i could have hooked up the 2nd sserial card wrong but i don't think i did
20:28 Tom_itx the 5v reg is still 5v
20:28 rue_shop4 it woulnd't have fried all that
20:29 Tom_itx if all the 5v chips went why didn't the 5v reg?
20:30 Tom_itx there isn't any 24v on those boards that i know of... it has the capability of that though
20:31 rue_shop4 right
20:31 rue_shop4 if the 5V went high, the caps would have blown too
20:31 rue_shop4 are there any tant caps on the 5V?
20:32 rue_shop4 they go off like a bomb at 2x rated voltage
20:32 Tom_itx i don't think so
20:32 Tom_itx it was one of mine and they're ceramic or electrolytic
20:33 rue_shop4 well ceramic are indestructable
20:33 rue_shop4 well hehe
20:33 rue_shop4 thats another story
20:33 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/misc_stuff/5v_switcher.jpg
20:33 Tom_itx one of those
20:33 Tom_itx with the input cap removed
20:33 Tom_itx used the external one since it was under rated
20:33 Tom_itx 24v in put
20:34 Tom_itx 16v cap
20:34 Tom_itx i honestly was afraid to use one of the china ones we got
20:34 Tom_itx i got half dozen or more of those
20:35 rue_shop4 I dont think it failed
20:35 Tom_itx maybe i should use one of those with the led readout on it
20:35 Tom_itx and glue the pot in place
20:35 Tom_itx so vibration from the mill doesn't fuzz it up
20:38 rue_shop4 hmm
20:38 rue_shop4 I dont think it was the regulator
20:38 rue_shop4 I think high voltage got into it
20:38 rue_shop4 are the data traces from the computer 10 thou?
20:40 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/7I43.jpg
20:41 Tom_itx the left header is the parport input
20:41 rue_shop4 the point is, do ANY of the traces show ANY thermal stress?
20:41 Tom_itx i didn't notice any
20:41 Tom_itx under the microscope
20:42 rue_shop4 k
20:42 rue_shop4 you dont use the usb conenctor right?
20:42 Tom_itx no
20:42 rue_shop4 is U9 a regulator chip?
20:42 Tom_itx originally i used it for 5v power but that was a long time back
20:42 Tom_itx u9 is a 74HC132
20:43 rue_shop4 oh my
20:43 Tom_itx what is that?
20:43 rue_shop4 its nothing, thats why I'm surprised
20:43 rue_shop4 whats it do!?
20:43 Tom_itx he said it likely wouldn't power up without it
20:43 rue_shop4 armyofevilrobots, helping tom with his blown up cnc
20:43 Tom_itx i don't know
20:44 armyofevilrobots hey what now?
20:44 Tom_itx he sent me those tiny ones by the chokes too
20:44 rue_shop4 armyofevilrobots, also just put the .34mm tip on
20:44 Tom_itx those ar 3.3 and 1.2v regs
20:44 armyofevilrobots http://thedoomthatcametopuppet.tumblr.com/ <- highly specific devops in joke.
20:44 rue_shop4 had a few ok boxes yesterday
20:44 armyofevilrobots I just put on my 0.8mm nozzle. Best prints I have ever got.
20:44 Tom_itx how many boxes are you gonna print before you actually use it?
20:44 rue_shop4 I want to make a cylinder today and print it
20:45 Tom_itx i got a cpu fan today, now the old one is quiet as a mouse
20:45 Tom_itx 40mm
20:46 rue_shop4 Tom_itx, the small fpga is only linked via data to the large fpga, no?
20:46 rue_shop4 armyofevilrobots, ...
20:46 Tom_itx i'm not sure what it does exactly
20:47 rue_shop4 http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1060931.jpg
20:47 rue_shop4 http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1060930.jpg
20:47 rue_shop4 http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1060922.jpg
20:48 rue_shop4 Tom_itx, the small one does the usb, no?
20:48 Tom_itx i don't know
20:48 Tom_itx probably
20:49 rue_shop4 lots of unknowns here
20:49 rue_shop4 this is wehre having your own board design is ncie
20:50 rue_shop4 Tom_itx, what I'm worried about is that the only common thing I'm seeing IS the power rail
20:51 rue_shop4 if the surge...
20:52 Tom_itx i don't see any trace damage on that board
20:52 Tom_itx just rechecked
20:53 rue_shop4 armyofevilrobots, I know a guy who would klike to do some engraving on an aluminum plate, are you up for that?
20:53 Tom_itx i noticed smoke from the other board first though but it could have been because there were 3 chips going on it instead of just one
20:55 rue_shop4 armyofevilrobots, hello?
21:00 rue_shop4 he's got a dxf for it
21:00 rue_shop4 hes making engine controllers
21:00 rue_shop4 for his own stuff anyhow
21:02 Tom_itx traces on both boards look ok
21:02 Tom_itx except a couple i screwed up getting the chips off. i can fix those
21:06 Tom_itx i can power the board from the usb again to test it before hooking it all back up
21:07 Tom_itx once the pc can see the fpga will be one good test
21:09 Tom_itx wish i had a hot air gun though
21:12 rue_shop4 RifRaf, 0.34mm is a fail
21:12 rue_shop4 I put the 1mm back on
21:12 Tom_itx what does it do?
21:12 Tom_itx maybe it's just a matter of getting the feeds right
21:13 rue_shop4 well, it cant squish the plastic out, so not much
21:13 Tom_itx drive dog slip?
21:13 Tom_itx maybe the tip isn't getting hot enough
21:13 Tom_itx at the very tip
21:13 rue_shop4 no, its pushing hard enough
21:14 rue_shop4 it was backing up in the tip
21:14 Tom_itx so you wanted a .5 tip?
21:14 Tom_itx instead of 1
21:14 rue_shop4 yea
21:14 Tom_itx drill the .3 out
21:14 rue_shop4 my tips are just 5/8 brass bolts with a hole in them
21:14 rue_shop4 I cant
21:15 rue_shop4 if I could I'd make a new one
21:18 rue_shop4 armyofevilrobots, dave said 72 dpi, but that image has to come out better than that, it was 10mp
21:22 Tom_itx had i never wired these up before i'd more blame my recent wiring but i've had them all wired before and tested
21:22 Tom_itx i was just simply putting wires back where they once were before
21:22 Tom_itx on the extra SSERIAL card
21:24 armyofevilrobots rue_shop4 Sorry, afk for a bit there. Rading back-scroll.
21:25 armyofevilrobots Haha. I am not the only one printing on green tape right now!
21:25 armyofevilrobots I blowed up my 20A PSU (dropped a nut into it), so I am priting on a cold bed with greentape.
21:26 armyofevilrobots I _can_ engrave aluminum, who is the guy?
21:27 GuShH Tom_itx: by any chance do you know of any patents, pictures, anything showing the exploded view or inside view of a capstan lathe lock mechanism? I'm missing one part, it looks like a trigger (that's what I came up after several iterations / trial and error) but it still doesn't work properly....
21:28 GuShH exploded view is what ya'll get if I can't fix this thing, I'll blow it up.
21:28 ShH shakes
21:31 rue_shop4 armyofevilrobots, robert heibert
21:31 rue_shop4 armyofevilrobots, 886-3491 iirc
21:31 rue_shop4 he has a dxf, otherwise he's looking at doing it by hand on the lathe
21:32 rue_shop4 armyofevilrobots, would you like one of the power supplies I have?...
21:33 rue_shop4 2 12V channels, 1@10A 1@16A
21:33 rue_shop4 (and 5v, 3.3V..)
21:33 GuShH rue_shop4: why can't you drill smaller than 1mm?
21:33 rue_shop4 its a server module
21:33 rue_shop4 GuShH, the bits I have, the next smallest from 1mm is .34mm
21:33 rue_shop4 I have no 5mm
21:33 rue_shop4 er 0.5mm
21:33 GuShH get a set of torch reamers
21:33 GuShH you know, for oxy torches
21:34 GuShH you can easily use one of those to go up to 0.5 I bet
21:34 GuShH I haven't tried it since I can get bits down to 0.20 in almost all sizes, but it should work.
21:35 rue_shop4 I dont HAVE A 0.5MM DRILL BIT
21:35 GuShH BUT THE 0.5 REAMER WILL PUT YOUR 0.34 UP TO 0.5
21:35 GuShH it'll work fine, but you might get a slightly oversized hole
21:35 rue_shop4 I didn't
21:35 GuShH since they're designed to clean (with a flex shaft) instead of machine.
21:36 GuShH otherwise on a pinch get some piano wire of the right size, shape it like a D bit
21:36 GuShH (yes it's doable)
21:37 GuShH (no it won't be precise)
21:39 rue_shop4 hmm
21:40 Tom_L https://www.google.com/search?q=exploded+view+capstan+lathe+lock+mechanism&client=firefox-a&hs=9RS&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&imgil=EbFRqDlUOAZASM%253A%253BiJBp15PTgDTzoM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.practicalmachinist.com%25252Fvb%25252Fgeneral%25252Flathe-turret-mechanisms-267631%25252F&source=iu&pf=m&fir=EbFRqDlUOAZASM%253A%252CiJBp15PTgDTzoM%252C_&usg=__AGwglmDGcOUo_5NHXu1q1MK7VUw%3D&biw=1280&bih=906&ved=0CCkQyjc&ei=0
21:41 Tom_L http://www.google.com/patents/US2791822
21:42 armyofevilrobots @rue_shop4: Hmm, does he have an email? I'll ask for the dxf and take a peek at it.
21:42 rue_shop4 ok just a min
21:44 Tom_itx GuShH, 2nd link shows details if that's what you need
21:44 rue_shop4 er, ok, left a mesage
21:44 Tom_itx patent drawnigs
21:49 rue_shop4 ok I can see that a reprap needs a bin beside it for scrap plastic
21:49 Tom_L http://www.lathes.co.uk/exacta/
22:03 rue_shop2 ooo scad is gonna drive me crazy
22:03 rue_shop2 you scale and position an object using variables, then you create the object, then you set the variables
22:03 rue_shop2 FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
22:04 rue_shop2 freaking HP...
22:04 rue_shop2 and your variables can have the same name as keywords
22:05 Tom_L i hated scad...
22:06 rue_shop2 I do, and I'v used it for just 1 minute now
22:06 rue_shop2 they do it like this because thats how opengl does it
22:06 rue_shop2 I'm sure of it
22:06 rue_shop2 they just took it to an insane degree
22:09 Tom_itx you can draw in solidworks and export
22:09 rue_shop2 heh, if I had it, yes
22:09 rue_shop4 ok I made the cylinder,
22:09 rue_shop4 now to slicer
22:09 Tom_itx pm
22:09 Tom_itx rue_shop2
22:10 rue_shop4 over there!?
22:10 Tom_itx stop moving around
22:10 rue_shop4 pff
22:11 rue_shop4 then print..
22:12 rue_shop4 heh, I should make a scale for the scrap plastic bucket on it and calibrate it in dollars
22:13 Tom_L so much for your $1 daily spending limit
22:20 Tom_L GuShH, can't find much eles
22:20 Tom_L else*
22:34 rue_shop4 yay! I designed and printed a cylinder
22:35 Tom_itx is it the right size?
22:35 rue_shop4 prettymuch
22:35 rue_shop4 its supposed to be 20x20x20high
22:36 rue_shop4 its 20.7x19.87x20.3
22:36 Tom_itx not bad
22:36 rue_shop4 I think the xy difference is becasue of all the slop on the carrige
22:36 Tom_itx now hurry up and run out of PLA so you can get back on the cnc...
22:37 rue_shop4 to the eye its a bit eliptical
22:37 rue_shop4 hah
22:37 rue_shop4 I have 2 1kg rolls
22:37 Tom_itx my eyes used to be able to see .001 pretty easy
22:38 rue_shop4 I cant tell you what the cylinder weighs, because its less than the 10g my scale can do
22:39 rue_shop4 ah
22:39 Tom_itx make 10 and average em
22:39 rue_shop4 hmm, I don tthink its square...
22:39 Tom_itx heh
22:41 rue_shop4 I'll be
22:41 rue_shop4 somewhere an axis is out of square with antoher
22:42 Tom_itx put some dials on it
22:42 Tom_itx and check it
22:42 rue_shop4 hmmm
22:42 Tom_itx tramming
22:43 rue_shop4 aha
22:44 rue_shop4 I see...
22:44 RifRaf hey rue, back on the smaller nozzle yet? been workin all day here
22:45 Tom_itx rue_shop4, square, level and plum
22:47 rue_shop4 RifRaf, you missed it, I tried it and the plastic backed up, I'm back to the 1mm again
22:47 rue_shop4 the X plane was sheered
22:47 rue_shop4 I'm just correcting it now
22:48 Tom_itx the closer you get it the better it will perform
22:48 RifRaf hrm,, ithink you should get the smaller one working first
22:49 RifRaf time to print a pink elephant here
22:50 rue_shop4 RifRaf, I just designed and printed a cylinder!
22:50 RifRaf rue what did i get? <rue_more> novakane, rifraf in robotics got it
22:50 rue_shop4 20mm, and I could see the sheer
22:50 RifRaf my scroll back could not catch it
22:51 rue_shop4 the doll thing
22:51 RifRaf ah
22:51 rue_shop4 two people are failing to print it
22:51 RifRaf heh is tricky
22:51 RifRaf i have done it in 3 sizes now
22:51 rue_shop4 well, hmm
22:52 rue_shop4 I think I almost have the multiplier right
22:52 rue_shop4 think I should try a new extruder gear?
22:52 RifRaf is it slipping?
22:53 rue_shop4 I have a few alonolies in prints still
22:53 RifRaf you will always have them
22:53 rue_shop4 no, but I understand its a good thing tohave a spare of
22:53 rue_shop4 mainly where it starts/stops the outline
22:53 RifRaf don't aim for perfection in your first week, just make stuff, you will soon learn what you need to tweek
22:53 RifRaf yep spare parts for your whole printer is a good thing once you get the settings ok
22:53 rue_shop4 oh, it might be the loose carrige
22:54 rue_shop4 I need to get the UU8 on the carrige, its sloppy
22:54 rue_shop4 then agian, i need a new carrige
22:54 rue_shop4 mine is desgined wrong
22:54 rue_shop4 and someone warped it
22:54 RifRaf some of the printer parts are not the simplest thing though. so start with the basic parts, leave gears for now
22:55 rue_shop4 the scaling seems really good
22:56 rue_shop4 http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34850
22:56 rue_shop4 that shoudl be easy, right
22:56 rue_shop4 ?
22:58 Tom_L not in black
22:58 Tom_L snowflakes are white
22:58 rue_shop4 its black or green
22:58 rue_shop4 this will be a black one
22:58 Tom_L i pick green
22:58 Tom_L also
22:59 RifRaf yep easy
22:59 rue_shop4 I havn't opened the green yet
22:59 Tom_L you may find different colors act different
22:59 rue_shop4 dont know if I want to
22:59 RifRaf they do
22:59 GuShH Tom_itx: I think I managed to actually replicate something I've never seen before... I mean it's working now, cycles and locks, although it doesn't always lock since it overshoots the turn, I need to figure out if there's a way to limit it through a stop
22:59 rue_shop4 I want to fail with something I'm familiar with first
22:59 RifRaf i'd print them in clear, which ends up silvery white
22:59 GuShH the final part looked like a.... TRIGGER, seriously it looks like a gun trigger.
23:00 rue_shop4 expensive plastic, dont ahve clear
23:00 rue_shop4 hey, wait
23:00 rue_shop4 waiiiit
23:00 rue_shop4 I think I'm a sneakey rascal
23:00 rue_shop4 I think one of these rolls is pla and the other is abs
23:00 rue_shop4 how the hell do I tell?
23:00 RifRaf burn and smell
23:00 Tom_L one takes more heat
23:01 RifRaf the abs will have black nasty smell, the pla will be sweet
23:01 Tom_L eat it like licorice
23:01 rue_shop4 erp no, says pla right on it
23:02 rue_shop4 I think it was a mix kit, and I didn't see the type mixed one till later
23:02 rue_shop4 hahah turning power on helps the print get going
23:02 ShH wonders if he needs to temper the part or
23:03 GuShH rue_shop4: PLA prints best with a PTFE liner instead of bare stainless steel, unless your SS is perfectly bored / reamed and seasoned
23:04 GuShH usually you'd get a shitty hole if you use the wrong feed, bit, coolant, alloy.... which makes it even worse since the PLA will tend to stick, melt and get stuck in there as it collapses
23:04 GuShH got any ptfe rod around?
23:04 rue_shop4 GuShH, my liner is quartz
23:04 GuShH haven't tried quartz, again with the crazy stuff you
23:04 rue_shop4 :)
23:05 rue_shop4 I used quartz because of its horid thermal conductivity
23:05 ShH wonders how shitty it is to mac
23:06 RifRaf quartz like crystal? hard\
23:06 Tom_L i bet it chips easy too
23:10 rue_shop4 yea, its pure glass
23:10 rue_shop4 its just a bowden tube really
23:10 rue_shop4 down to the heater
23:13 Tom_L what's the dimensions on your tip?
23:13 Tom_L i could probably make one
23:14 Tom_L http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/reprap/nozzle4.jpg
23:14 Tom_L that one's around here somewhere..
23:14 GuShH just buy one you cheap ass rue
23:14 GuShH looks like a jhead clone
23:14 Tom_L probably is
23:14 GuShH but with aluminum instead of brass
23:15 GuShH or is it stainless
23:15 Tom_L alum
23:15 Tom_L http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/reprap/nozzle5.jpg
23:15 GuShH to drill the nozzle in stainless you need not only the right alloy, but also crazy spindle speeds.
23:15 rue_shop4 wow, print jobs really bring out the problems in a printer
23:15 GuShH Tom_L: how come I've never seen your lathe :(
23:15 rue_shop4 Tom_itx, the tips for mine are 5/8 brass bolt,with a hole drilled
23:16 rue_shop4 the bolt is only 7.5mm long
23:16 Tom_L http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/reprap/nozzle9.jpg
23:16 Tom_L GuShH i don't have one
23:16 Tom_L it's your immagination
23:16 GuShH you are not Tom_itx?
23:16 rue_shop4 not like that
23:16 rue_shop4 for me
23:16 Tom_itx no, i'm Tom_itx
23:16 ShH facep
23:16 Tom_L not me
23:16 GuShH THERE CANT BE TWO TOMS
23:16 GuShH Tom_itx: question still stands!
23:17 Tom_L there are multiple rue_'s
23:17 Tom_L maybe you didn't look?
23:17 rue_shop4 RifRaf, quick, how do I change filament!
23:17 Tom_L i don't have any good pics of it
23:17 GuShH Tom_L: but they're all the same rue
23:17 GuShH surely.
23:17 GuShH Tom_L: well in that case if you didn't machine those parts, I get to tell you how horribly machined they are?
23:17 ShH g
23:18 Tom_L http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/sumo_files/sumo_motortube_index.php
23:18 Tom_L there
23:18 Tom_L silly boy
23:18 GuShH lol
23:19 GuShH they're OK pics but sadly the resolution makes me want to stab you
23:19 Tom_L haha
23:19 GuShH does it have a low gear and tumbler?
23:19 Tom_L http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Lathe/lathegears.jpg
23:20 Tom_L it's even got gears
23:20 GuShH you mean a set of change gears?
23:20 GuShH the reverse/tumbler is great, wish mine had that
23:21 GuShH cast iron or steel? I think iron
23:22 GuShH there's pretty much nobody doing cast iron around here anymore
23:22 GuShH it used to be the norm.
23:22 Tom_L hard to tell
23:22 Tom_L probably pot metal
23:22 GuShH you can tell they've been cast, as blanks
23:22 rue_shop4 oops, I think infill was supposed to be 100% on that one
23:22 GuShH so much?
23:23 rue_shop4 its a really thin part
23:23 Tom_itx ok time to sleep
23:23 GuShH Tom_itx: so they're lightweight?
23:23 Tom_itx they could be cast
23:24 Tom_itx i'm not sure
23:24 Tom_itx they probably are
23:24 GuShH they are, as blanks, but if you say they aren't steel nor iron... I think I have a clue
23:25 GuShH Zamak.
23:25 GuShH if the half-nut doesn't look like bronze, it might also be Zamak.
23:26 GuShH it isn't just "pot metal" most zamak alloys are nice
23:26 rue_shop4 Tom_itx,
23:26 rue_shop4 http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1040437.jpg
23:26 rue_shop4 thats my yip
23:26 rue_shop4 tip
23:26 GuShH hah
23:26 rue_shop4 http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1040438.jpg
23:26 GuShH using a nut to chuck it with?
23:27 rue_shop4 yea...
23:27 GuShH bad idea
23:27 GuShH they are not concentric, the nuts
23:27 rue_shop4 it was just a clamp
23:27 GuShH yes but it won't work properly, I've had to make threaded collets
23:27 rue_shop4 I drilled it in the cnc
23:27 rue_shop4 its the only thing that could move slow enough
23:27 GuShH you have a lathe dude
23:27 ShH double facep
23:29 rue_shop4 its done!
23:29 rue_shop4 GuShH, a) it cant run fast enough for a #80 bit
23:29 rue_shop4 b) I cant feed slow enough
23:29 rue_shop4 RifRaf, my cnc machine made black ice! ;)
23:30 GuShH rue_shop4: carbide or hss
23:30 rue_shop4 carbide
23:30 rue_shop4 my cnc is stepper
23:30 GuShH yes it can for hss, for carbide you would need much better alignment than you probably have right now on the tailstock
23:30 GuShH but you know the bearings are OK for higher speeds, however the chucks might not be heh
23:30 rue_shop4 I had to use HUGE delay numbers between steps, even then I broke 2 bits
23:31 GuShH they can take 6k rpm with grease
23:31 rue_shop4 no, I cant move the carrige slow enough
23:31 GuShH much higher with flood oil
23:31 rue_shop4 the motor trips a breaker trying to get to 2400
23:31 GuShH I think it would have been cheaper to buy a nozzle, instead of wasting 2 bits
23:31 rue_shop4 I have 50 of the bits
23:31 GuShH rue_shop4: yeah but just mod it.
23:31 GuShH get a nice 3 phase motor in there and work from that.
23:32 rue_shop4 money money money, is that all you ever talk about?
23:32 GuShH I'm trying to find one with the same base so I can do a direct drop-in
23:32 rue_shop4 the hole dosn't have to be centered, the cnc did it
23:32 GuShH well I don't like it when my bits break
23:32 GuShH they do cost money
23:32 rue_shop4 those ones were free
23:32 GuShH well lucky YOU.
23:32 rue_shop4 and what the hell am I gonna use a #80 bit for
23:32 GuShH killing flies
23:33 rue_shop4 or drilling out their tooth cavities...
23:36 GuShH Tom_itx: well then most likely they're die-cast zamak :)
23:36 GuShH can't wait to cut some gears
23:37 Tom_itx rue_shop2, what size bolt is that?
23:37 Tom_itx 3/8"?
23:38 rue_shop4 5/16 (sorry)
23:38 rue_shop4 I ws wrong before
23:38 Tom_itx brass?
23:38 rue_shop4 yes
23:38 Tom_itx what thread?
23:38 Tom_itx 20?
23:38 GuShH that looks like 20
23:38 GuShH standard, been using some of that lately
23:38 Tom_itx i can guess as well as the next guy
23:39 GuShH you can tell by looking at them if you've been lookin' long 'nuf
23:39 Tom_itx haha
23:39 GuShH at the industrial hardware store the owner just looks at it and tells you what it is.
23:39 GuShH he's always right
23:39 Tom_itx get a brass grub screw and drill it
23:39 rue_shop4 its course
23:39 Tom_itx coarse
23:39 m_itx gives rue_shop4 a spell che
23:40 GuShH lol
23:40 e_shop4 grum
23:40 GuShH rue_shop4: anyway nobody said to buy a 3 phase motor... you can find one surely, maybe scrapped with bad bearings...
23:40 GuShH I have some used ones, but they require adaptation to fit them
23:40 GuShH wish I could find a direct drop-in
23:40 Tom_itx rue_shop4
23:40 Tom_itx or
23:40 Tom_itx rue_shop2
23:40 Tom_itx or
23:40 Tom_itx rue_more
23:40 Tom_itx or rue_bed
23:40 GuShH don't want to drill the bed, but perhaps an adapter plate could be made using the existing holes
23:40 rue_shop4 whaaaaaat
23:41 Tom_itx what size hole do you need in it?
23:41 GuShH he wanted 0.5
23:41 rue_shop4 0.5mm
23:41 Tom_itx and what size lead hole for the filament?
23:41 rue_shop4 damnit, it snapped back to simple mode
23:41 Tom_itx 3mm/
23:41 Tom_itx ?
23:41 rue_shop4 hmm, 7/64iirc
23:41 GuShH wat
23:41 rue_shop4 by then it dosn't matter, cause its liquid
23:42 rue_shop4 the only reason I backdrilled it was to thin the material at the tip so I wold not have to drill thru al of it
23:42 GuShH that is probably some shitty 3mm you've got right there sir
23:42 Tom_itx what's .5mm in inch
23:42 GuShH you actually want a very small transition area for the nozzle
23:42 rue_shop4 root@MorphatronIII:/files# units 0.5mm inch
23:42 rue_shop4 * 0.019685039
23:42 Tom_itx ya know... the real dimensions things are made of...
23:42 ShH fr
23:42 GuShH things where, you don't have an industry anymore!
23:42 GuShH hahaha
23:43 ShH runs
23:43 m_itx grabs his android and checks his
23:43 rue_shop4 0.019685039
23:43 GuShH I got a fraction chart next to the lathe
23:43 GuShH use it all the time
23:43 GuShH cheat sheets are nice
23:44 Tom_itx #77 is .0180, #76 is .0200
23:44 GuShH use 77 and you'll get close to 76 :p
23:44 GuShH without perfect alignment you always get a conical hole in this case
23:45 Tom_itx mmm those are #79
23:46 Tom_itx #60
23:46 Tom_itx #65
23:46 Tom_itx hmm
23:47 Tom_itx #60 is .0400
23:47 Tom_itx #65 is .03500
23:48 rue_shop4 .5 go larger
23:48 rue_shop4 oh, imperial
23:48 rue_shop4 heh
23:48 rue_shop4 .02
23:48 rue_shop4 so 76
23:48 Tom_itx i got #79
23:48 Tom_itx loose in my drawer
23:49 Tom_itx dunno what's in the drill case
23:49 rue_shop4 my dril set only goes down to 60
23:50 Tom_itx mine's one of those 115 set
23:50 Tom_itx whatever it has
23:50 Tom_itx wtf.
23:50 Tom_itx more #60
23:50 GuShH anyone wants to see some update pics on the tiny turret lathe?
23:50 Tom_itx no
23:50 Tom_itx go away
23:50 GuShH :<
23:51 Tom_itx this is the new reprap channel
23:51 Tom_itx :D
23:51 ShH idly becomes shaun
23:51 m_itx w
23:51 GuShH if I ever become like that guy, I'll shoot myself twice.
23:51 RifRaf on noes
23:51 RifRaf oh*
23:51 GuShH there's a part that has been welded, not sure if that was a mod or if it broke off and they fixed it :(
23:51 RifRaf rue sorry been in the other place, so any progress?
23:52 Tom_itx i bet my pen drill has more small ones in it
23:52 GuShH haha RifRaf knows what I'm talking about
23:53 RifRaf yes fishhead v2.0 i think, but in a different way
23:53 Tom_itx damn, i should clean this drawer out
23:53 GuShH did you find dead mice?
23:54 RifRaf printing pink elepahnts here, about mouse size
23:54 GuShH can I shoot them once they're ready? :)
23:54 Tom_itx aussie size mice or merican?
23:54 GuShH I wonder if british mice have yellow teeth
23:55 RifRaf well our mice are pretty normal, get some huge rats though, and they have mean teeth
23:55 Tom_itx GuShH, you had a chance... i'm goin to bed now
23:55 GuShH not much to see on these http://imgur.com/a/IjM8z
23:55 GuShH but one important note: try not to use endmills on a drillpress.
23:55 GuShH didn't have a counterbore small enough so I used an endmill on that welded part... patience was key.
23:56 GuShH someone broke one of the screws, the other was bent and damaged the threads, so I went one size up with better fasteners.
23:56 GuShH if only I had left hand bits :( but anyway the broken screw drilled out fine
23:56 Tom_itx you don't have easy outs?
23:57 GuShH for this size?
23:57 GuShH I think I've stripped/broke mine
23:57 Tom_itx any size
23:57 Tom_itx i got several sizes
23:57 GuShH I got the bigger ones left... never used them
23:57 GuShH I wanted to go one size up so it didn't matter
23:57 Tom_itx now it's not original
23:57 GuShH so? it was already modified
23:58 GuShH and the missing part (the trigger, not shown) isn't original since I had to make it
23:58 GuShH it has to work properly and nothing else.
23:58 GuShH you can see some wear on that spur / gear
23:59 GuShH but that only indexes the depth stops.
23:59 Tom_itx make a new one
23:59 GuShH can't yet
