00:00 theBear i always assumed so, never really risked checking :)
00:00 rue_more so, did they do things to remove pressure from a nerve cluster?
00:01 rue_more or as big as resplicing data lines
00:01 theBear yeah, but there still ain't much of a balloon to hold the hole open
00:02 theBear they can't resplice them much... took 10 years for the last cm of my thumb to start working again after they sewed it back on, but apparently they grow different in the peripheries
00:02 rue_more I was playing with a freq gen to understand nerve signals better
00:02 rue_more its pfm
00:02 rue_more go figure
00:02 theBear interesting
00:03 rue_more but I couldn't varry duty to really play around
00:03 theBear i learned a lot about brain stuff and nervous systems recently at a chronic pain workshop kinda thing... it's a interesting system
00:03 rue_more just freq and amp
00:03 rue_more tell me some of what you learned
00:03 theBear and that explains a lot about the unintuitive results of various tens drive signals
00:03 rue_more I have to sidegrade my conciousness into a machine, and I'm fact gathering
00:04 theBear well, there's synapses wherever there's nerves, not just in your braintank, that surprised me
00:04 rue_more yea, I learned that your io control is in your spine
00:04 rue_more its not just a signal bundle
00:04 theBear and there can be little "triggers" at arbitrary points and around general sections/mini-loops that can do things and make decisions completely without using the brain
00:05 theBear and all this ties in with your immune and other systems at many points too
00:05 rue_more from what I can tell, your spine can perform macro operations, which I beleive include kinematics
00:06 rue_more you know when you try to lean dvorak and you have to think about where every key is, and it hurts your brian?
00:06 rue_more well, from what I can tell thats the effect of you brain having to work everythign out for itself manually
00:06 theBear and much like learning, your brain gets better at sensing nervous system stuff with experience, which leads to the basis of chronic pain/hypersensitivity, aka excessive unneeded "ghost" pain on top of real acute/new pain signals
00:06 rue_more hmmm
00:07 theBear a good example of hypersensitivity is how your skin feels when yer sunburned
00:07 rue_more hmm
00:08 theBear it kinda matches the status quo thing... how the body readily and wantonly adapts to the situation it is in, for any period of time
00:09 rue_more your spacebar thumb or the other one?
00:09 theBear ummm, spacebar
00:09 rue_more is it giving you typing issues after its gradual recovery?
00:10 theBear not really, occasionally it gets a bit sore on the pressing point, but by taht time most people would have bleeding fingerprints
00:10 rue_more theBear, another scarry thing that I'm not sure of but seems so...
00:10 theBear and my other fingers aint feeling great either
00:10 theBear don't be scared
00:11 rue_more from what I can tell, after about 5 minutes of no activity, neurons lose their polorization, aka programming
00:11 rue_more which implies if your brain stops for 5 minutes your lost, even if the cels are ok
00:11 theBear interesting... so it's like dram, including a refresh mechanism ?
00:11 theBear you're = you are :)
00:11 rue_more the refresh operations have to be maintained
00:12 theBear that explains the braindead thing
00:12 rue_more I dont think its possable to cold reboot a brain
00:12 rue_more I think they grow out of the ability
00:12 theBear mmmm
00:13 rue_more all these things make the idea to transfer ones self into a mechnical implementation that much more of a challange
00:13 theBear at least they getting a bit scientific about medicine these days.... all that diagnostic stuff is fine for a lot of things, but then there's all the other things
00:13 theBear ahh good point
00:14 rue_more I been trying to work out how neurons could be mapped
00:15 rue_more +- detectors, I'm wondering if a series of pulses was slowed to audio levels, if, listening to it, you could audiably map the firings
00:15 theBear mmm, that's always been the tricky bit, and if you can't cold-boot then you gonna struggle to re-map things in the brain to match... then again, some super-cripples relearn walking etc, not something you wanna bank on tho
00:16 rue_more two parts to the problem I suppose, a) an operating environment for the brains data content, b) copying it over
00:16 theBear oh, you thinking remove the brain completely ?
00:16 rue_more no
00:17 rue_more thats hard to do to yourself
00:17 theBear then the operating environment already exists
00:17 rue_more I'm breaking the brain up into software and hardware
00:17 theBear and environments are software :)
00:17 rue_more I dont think that the software is only able to work on an organic medium
00:18 theBear but you said you aren't replacing the organic medium
00:18 rue_more I'm stuck in one of the most propritory devices known, and I'm trying to reverse engineer my way out
00:18 theBear heh
00:18 rue_more I want to go machine
00:19 rue_more would you store important data files on an organic drive?
00:19 rue_more the idea makes me uneasy
00:19 theBear well, good ones seem to last longer than any other data storage we got so far
00:19 theBear anyway, i gotta go recline somewhere more recliney... don't you go all mad-professor, and i'll be back to check on you, eventually :)
00:20 rue_more yea, the reliability of electronics has lots to be disired
00:20 rue_more theBear, thanks for the chat
00:20 e_more works at the cracks to pop the lid and take a look at this 'brain' thin
03:07 bezoka rue_more: how much is shipping to Poland?
03:08 bezoka how much cost*
03:20 deshipu bezoka: o, czesc
09:21 rue_more what did he want shipped?
09:22 rue_more a brain?
09:53 cnnx I finally fixed my turning problem.. I re-installed my 4 motors much closer to eachother and it works perfectly
19:18 rue_more nothing like sitting back in my chair, closing my eyes and forgetting where I am
19:18 Tom_itx i wait for the day...
19:18 Tom_itx some days..
19:29 GuShH working on the tiny turret lathe today (so cute) I need to figure out a way to remove the nasty backing plate they installed for the wrecked 3 jaw chuck...
19:29 GuShH the last attempt chipped an edge (cast iron) not that it matters a lot...
19:30 GuShH the bearings are eeky, could use a replacement since the races have visible wear grooves
19:30 GuShH and of course since they were using a 3 jaw chuck, the collet chuck is missing, but most of the closer mechanism is there
19:30 ShH p
19:30 GuShH here's the funny bit: the pedestal (which I assume is NOT from that machine) weighs more than the machine itself
19:31 GuShH sure one of the columns is currently full of water (the coolant reservoir) but still, heavier.
20:11 rue_more huh
20:12 rue_more making progress
20:12 rue_more http://www.americanradiohistory.com/Popular-Electronics-Guide.htm
21:39 GuShH rue_more: very little wear on the bed, you can actually see original scrape marks... quite impressed by that. Obviously these lathes hardly use their beds, but still how old is this thing... probably 50 years old at least
21:41 GuShH sadly someone welded the collet closer handle so I can't remove that from the headstock, I'll have to cut it off, clean it up and tap it so I can thread a stud into both ends.
21:50 rue_shop4 ok I tore the head all apart
21:50 rue_shop4 with a bit of heat here and there it co-operated
21:50 rue_shop4 bit of heat gun work and its all unplugged
21:50 rue_shop4 RifRaf, you online??
21:51 GuShH rue_shop4: head?
21:51 rue_shop4 3d printer
21:52 GuShH oh
21:52 rue_shop4 orlock, you assempled your pitner yet?
21:53 GuShH rue_shop4: pics http://imgur.com/a/rxSri they're in wrong order, also I need to clean up the inside of the bed again, I didn't paint all of it since I noticed some grit still in there :(
21:54 GuShH anyway that's just a primer
21:54 rue_shop4 whats the zigzag on the bed?
21:55 GuShH oil scraping
21:55 GuShH those are meant to keep oil for lubrication
21:55 rue_shop4 ah
21:55 GuShH the bed is a bit dinged up, but it is actually quite hard, I dinged the china lathe again yesterday -- removed the tailstock quill and it dropped slightly on the bed, marked it.... I dropped several tool on this thing, not a dent.
21:56 GuShH it also isn't warped, it is quite flat as-is
21:56 GuShH I just don't know if I'll be able to find the right jaws for that chuck
21:56 rue_shop4 huh
21:57 GuShH and a collet chuck for this thing is not going to be an easy find, at all
21:58 GuShH cute little turret lathe thoug
21:59 GuShH Hyratel: ya like?
22:00 ShH likes that he can lift it up without much hassle, the others are too h
22:00 ratel screeches his attention in
22:01 RifRaf rue_shop2, hi?
22:01 GuShH Hyratel: these were part of a 5 for 1 deal, I wanted just one of the lot but I got all of them for the price of one, now I'm dealing with them whenever I can.
22:01 Hyratel whazis now
22:02 RifRaf RifRaf, reprapping?
22:02 RifRaf er rue_shop2*
22:02 GuShH talking to yourself?
22:02 GuShH :p
22:02 RifRaf seems so
22:02 rue_shop4 I'm rebuilding the head
22:02 rue_shop4 got all the plastic out
22:02 ShH ruffles RifRaf's
22:02 RifRaf what did you need me for?
22:02 RifRaf burn it out
22:02 rue_shop4 replacing some mild steel with stainless and adding a fan
22:03 GuShH if its abs... acetone-it-out!
22:03 Hyratel GuShH, what'd you get your grubby mitts on?
22:03 rue_shop4 its pla
22:03 RifRaf not , its pla
22:03 GuShH Hyratel: that is a small turret lathe
22:03 rue_shop4 I had a good one
22:03 GuShH ah pla won't cooperate with ze-tone
22:03 rue_shop4 I told it to extrude and it started moving all the axies
22:03 GuShH gets bendy though
22:03 RifRaf axii?
22:04 Hyratel very nice
22:04 RifRaf would you believe axes?
22:04 GuShH I need to figure out whether to try and find new jaws for the chuck, find a collet chuck... or make something.
22:05 rue_shop4 from what I can tell it'd lost a signal ground
22:05 rue_shop4 fixe
22:05 rue_shop4 d
22:06 rue_shop4 RifRaf, did they play get smart in oz?
22:06 orlock yup
22:07 RifRaf sure, i frew up with max and 99
22:07 RifRaf grew*
22:07 Hyratel but holy crap that thing looks nice painted
22:09 GuShH just a primer coat, I need to fix the turret mechanism
22:09 rue_shop4 hah cool
22:09 GuShH I found oh about 30 sheared pins underneath
22:09 rue_shop4 pins?
22:09 GuShH for the rack/pinion inside
22:09 GuShH they have a shear pin for safety
22:10 rue_shop4 same pin or an array of them
22:10 GuShH it uses just one, but found a huge amount of broken ones in there
22:10 rue_shop4 heh
22:10 GuShH seems every time they broke it they would just replace and leave the broken ones inside
22:13 GuShH the turret is stuck, that is quite common when they rust... I just need to take it all apart
22:13 Hyratel a soft mallet, some heat and a whole lot of wiggling?
22:13 GuShH oh I already removed it, but the mechanism is still stuck
22:14 GuShH it indexes in a similar way to a revolver, with spring loaded hardened "fingers"
22:15 rue_shop4 wow, stainless is WAY worse at conducting heat than the numbers make itout to be
22:15 GuShH it is
22:15 RifRaf indeed
22:16 GuShH half of brass or a bit less
22:17 rue_shop4 oh, brass is bad?
22:17 GuShH rue_shop4: fun if you just cut it with an angle grinder and touch it right away next to the cut, cold.
22:17 rue_shop4 yea, I'm owrking on short peices and havn't burned myself
22:17 GuShH lot's of brass alloys, but generally it conducts heat twice as much, compared to stainless (in general)
22:17 rue_shop4 which helps, my dipping bowl is frozen
22:18 GuShH lol
22:18 GuShH rue_shop4: that is why drilling SS is such a hassle
22:18 GuShH most of the heat remains on the tool and not on the chip
22:18 rue_shop4 ah
22:18 GuShH so you really need to push that coolant otherwise the edge melts / breaks on the tool
22:19 rue_shop4 I thought the coolant was to keep the material cool so it wouldn't harden
22:19 GuShH dwelling will cause the austenstitics to harden
22:19 GuShH whenever the tool rubs, coolant or not, it will harden
22:22 rue_shop4 oh nuts, I have to take the feeder apart to get it back on
22:23 GuShH I machine quite a bit of 304 which sucks but it is readily available for me.
22:23 rue_shop4 well, the body of my extruder is quartz, which is worse than ss
22:23 rue_shop4 by 2x
22:23 rue_shop4 iirc
22:23 GuShH not sure on quartz, never worked with it
22:23 GuShH :p
22:25 rue_shop4 not nice to machien
22:25 rue_shop4 damn, I ahve to retime all my fingers
22:28 GuShH new timing belt? :p
22:36 rue_shop4 arg, I ahve to 100% take this extruder apart to put it back ont eh carrige
22:37 rue_shop4 to get at the mounting bolt, the motor has to come off
22:37 rue_shop4 but to get that off the main drive bolt has to come out
22:37 rue_shop4 to get that out you have to take off the pinch roller
22:37 rue_shop4 THERE ARE NO OTHER PARTS
22:37 orlock guy that sold me my kit will give me a hobbed bolt
22:37 rue_shop4 it was an oops?
22:37 orlock he doesnt think so
22:38 rue_shop4 ah, you are the first fool to buy the kit?
22:38 orlock or if he doesnt he didnt say so - but i cant find it
22:38 rue_shop4 er, person
22:38 orlock no - i actually bought the last one they had in stock
22:38 rue_shop4 ah
22:39 rue_shop4 see if you can be the first to have it working
22:39 rue_shop4 I'm about 2.5 years now
22:39 rue_shop4 and I'm trying to get the extruder on again
22:39 orlock whhile all the other people search for the elusive hobbed bolt hah
22:52 rue_shop4 ok back online
23:03 rue_shop4 rif... damnit
23:08 GuShH Hyratel: primer was wet when I took the pics, so it looked shiny. I need to figure out if I want to paint it using the original color and type of paint (hammered blue) or just gloss blue.... or gray...
23:08 GuShH not a big fan of hammered paints
23:09 Hyratel idk why but i think lathes ought to be red
23:09 GuShH lol
23:09 Hyratel high gloss red
23:09 GuShH it was originally blue, then someone painted it orange
23:09 GuShH now it is primed "rust red"
23:10 GuShH the pedestal could be red... I need to sandblast it, but I can't right now
23:11 GuShH I've never seen a stock lathe in red :p
23:11 GuShH oh, the mini lathes.
23:12 GuShH not sure how big those are compared to this small turret lathe
23:13 rue_shop4 ok I'm gonna scrwe up the printer more
23:14 GuShH rue_shop4: holy crap http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/attachments/f19/61442d1350912137-more-granite-lathe-img_9077-sm.jpg
23:14 GuShH http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/attachments/f19/61443d1350912171-more-granite-lathe-img_9084-sm.jpg
23:15 GuShH http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/antique-machinery-history/more-granite-lathe-254372/
23:15 ShH w
23:15 GuShH JUST TAKE IT, RESTORE IT, DAMMIT.
23:16 GuShH I would totally adopt that machine
23:17 rue_shop4 hahahah got to love it when it gets up to temp and decides it wont print the file
23:18 GuShH http://quarriesandbeyond.org/images/in-turning_a_column_ca_1920s_fr_harold_clupper.jpg turning granite
23:18 GuShH so... originally they were only partially covered machines
23:36 rue_shop4 hahahaha I set it up for my 1mm nozzel and it decided to just print the base ring
23:44 rue_shop4 yay the print is working
23:44 rue_shop4 tho my extruder multiplier is 4...
23:59 rue_shop4 aha, if you print too fast, the foundation layers dont have time to cool and they are all jello
