00:00 bezoka How much cost cheap robotics claw?
00:00 GuShH retired machinist with not a lot of cash
00:00 rue_more china...
00:00 GuShH but, lots of time.
00:01 orlock bezoka: depends, what does it need to pick up?
00:01 rue_more bezoka, http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Aluminium-Robot-Clamp-Gripper-Mount-kit-for-Robot-Arm-and-Hexapod-Biped-Walker-/251629987750?pt=Home_Automation_Kits&hash=item3a9650e7a6
00:01 rue_more $14
00:02 rue_more nobody is selling 3d printed grippers?
00:02 rue_more bezoka, I can sell you gripper
00:03 bezoka rue_more, but from Canada :D
00:04 GuShH rue_more: here's a pic from the video http://imgur.com/PwfOZcv
00:04 orlock bezoka: Poland?
00:04 bezoka Shipping will be expensive
00:04 GuShH I don't like his tailstock design, but he claims it works fine
00:04 bezoka Yes
00:04 orlock bezoka: find a local hackerspace?
00:04 GuShH he kept the bed short to limit flexing
00:04 bezoka No, what it is?
00:04 GuShH that is before he added the compound :p
00:05 rue_more GuShH, wow, that looks sturdy
00:05 orlock bezoka: a place where there are communual 3d printers and the like
00:05 GuShH it machines better than the china lathes, which actually made me smile.
00:05 GuShH but, goes to show... will power and all that.
00:05 bezoka I was kicked
00:05 rue_more bezoka, http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm8/p1060615.jpg
00:06 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm8/p1060614.jpg
00:06 rue_more GRIPPER ONLY! NO RETAIL BOX!
00:06 orlock bezoka: http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/Poland
00:06 GuShH I do learn quite a lot from these old guys, they were serious machinists, unlike the button pushing girlies from today
00:07 bezoka Rue_more, where are you work?
00:07 GuShH he even brazed his own carbide tooling.
00:07 rue_more canada
00:07 orlock bezoka: Theres 5 around the country
00:08 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm7/p1050959.jpg
00:08 bezoka Orlock, okay thanks a lot ;)
00:08 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm7/p1050961.jpg
00:08 rue_more bezoka, ^
00:08 rue_more $8 + shipping
00:08 bezoka Beatiful ;)
00:09 rue_more I made 1 to sell
00:10 GuShH haha, just 8 bucks? are you secretly chinese
00:10 bezoka That's claw is nice ;)
00:10 rue_more that covers what I'd need for it
00:10 bezoka Without "'s"
00:10 rue_more like I say, I made an extra, there were 5 in the set
00:11 rue_more so they assembled quick, no retooling
00:11 rue_more here is one not finished: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm7/p1050955.jpg
00:11 rue_more I'v got 4 robot arms with them
00:11 bezoka ;D
00:11 bezoka I go to university
00:12 bezoka Brb
00:12 rue_more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjMhJxS96Lk&list=UUPqhe-f22nx8XkLW-CysxQw
00:12 rue_more haha I didn't have the shaft cut off
00:14 GuShH rue_more: so part of the reason for the rigidity on his lathe is that he used a solid spindle
00:14 rue_more oh yea
00:15 GuShH he said he could always bore it, but he feels it would make the lathe a lot weaker
00:15 rue_more he did weld his dovetails
00:16 GuShH everything is welded or brazed and then fit by hand with files and sandpaper + blueing
00:16 GuShH he didn't bother with scraping
00:16 GuShH "not a precision machine, just a sturdy little lathe"
00:18 rue_more the handles look made of a hex nut, 4 little bars, and....
00:19 GuShH he uses nuts and threaded rod for a lot of things
00:19 GuShH reason why some of the handles are to be turned the wrong way around (all right hand threads)
00:19 GuShH I think you could buy left hand all-thread but maybe it isn't available everywhere
00:20 rue_more I'v used lathes with both direction of carrige feed handle!
00:20 GuShH yeah shorty is the wrong way around also
00:20 rue_more to this day I'm quite carefull which way the handle goes on an unfamiliar lathe
00:21 GuShH very annoying.
00:21 rue_more when I got hte chinc lathe, I was sure it was backwards
00:21 rue_more so I have to wonder what I used last
00:22 rue_more the I beam is pitted to all hell, thats kinda funny
00:23 GuShH lol
00:25 GuShH https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAwCdKFrRNs he was machining a spindle to use it as a horizontal mill for the new headstock
00:26 GuShH the bit was brazed onto it later on
00:27 GuShH it seems a lot of basic old lathes used direct handle to the leadscrew on the far right
00:27 GuShH can't find the video of a homemade mill, that thing was nice.
00:28 GuShH also built very sturdy, but I can't imagine how much time it takes to make one of those
00:36 rue_more I hate youtube image stabilization
00:36 GuShH yeah
00:36 GuShH they should crop
00:36 GuShH https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlMolURHDK8 I've done this on the lathe
00:37 GuShH but my "slitting saw" was a skilsaw blade :D
00:38 rue_more I rounded a 5/8" linknut to 20mm to fit in a ball bearing
00:39 rue_more cnc machine, allthread stays static, nut spins
00:39 rue_more but the drilling of the nut was way out
00:39 rue_more so it was only good on proof of concept
00:40 GuShH https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT0s703j_dY
00:46 GuShH wtf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPlLOwz8cZg dude you need tapered bearings... starting with that cheap drill press is the worst idea you can possibly have!! I can't believe some people... plus the vfd costs more than the frigging drill press
00:46 GuShH and of course, he mills nothing with it and shows no other video.
00:46 GuShH probably because the drill chuck got shoved up his forehead when he tried to.
00:47 GuShH (no drawbar, taper fit... bad idea)
01:01 rue_more well, I'm an hour late for bed
01:01 rue_more gnight
03:47 DarthMachinist yay
09:25 rue_more Yes, about 12.7mm,
09:26 rue_more it took 5 tries to get the answer
09:27 rue_more so the answer is that they are standard 1/2
14:54 rue_more theBear, you have surplus of computer time these days?
18:21 GuShH rue_shop2: just made some leveling feet for the mill :)
18:21 cnnx if i have a robot with 6 wheels and I want it to turn left do i make all the left motors go in one direction and the right motors in the opposite direction?
18:21 GuShH sure that would make it turn on the spot
18:22 GuShH all left ones turning one direction, all right ones turning the other.
18:22 cnnx ause im doing that now with 4 wheels and its not working, if i add 2 more in the middle it would help or no?
18:23 GuShH don't know what you've got
18:24 orlock cnnx: google skid steering
18:25 orlock cnnx: but depending on the geometry, the front and rear wheels may just be getting dragges sideways
18:27 SquirrelCZECH cnnx: define is not working
18:27 cnnx so why isnt it working well with only 4?
18:27 cnnx i put it back to 2 motors and a caster for now
18:27 cnnx its 17" x 14"
18:27 cnnx 17 long and 14 wide
18:28 Rif cnnx, take a video and we can tell you
18:29 orlock cnnx: 2 motors and a castor or two will work better
18:29 GuShH rue_shop2: as long as I don't push the stand the 5/16 rods should be fine, compression wise.
18:30 GuShH and they only need to stick out a couple mm
18:31 cnnx_ http://www.robotshop.com/forum/problems-with-motor-wheels-t12239
18:31 cnnx_ this is my problem
18:31 cnnx_ i posted that
18:31 Rif pics or it didn't happen
18:33 GuShH pics would help
18:42 cnnx_ i read that the close the rear and front wheels are on the platform the easier it turns
18:42 cnnx_ so if i add 2 more wheels to my 4 wheel robot for a total of six, the distances between wheels would be very close making it easier?
18:43 cnnx_ or no?
18:45 Rif 4 should work fine with skid steering, 6 is harder to skidsteer unless you like ripping the ground up like dozers do
18:45 Rif a pic would make more sense
18:45 cnnx_ Rif: i only have 2 wheels on it now
18:45 cnnx_ so it wouldnt help you
18:45 Rif 2 is perfect with a castor
18:45 cnnx_ its 17inch by 14 inch like i said
18:46 Rif i have no idea, just get your phone out and take an image so we can see, top down and upside down would be good
18:46 cnnx_ my caster broke so i made one with a roll on antiperspirant bottle and works pretty good
19:15 rue_more I spent all day fixing a freaking door lock at the hospital
19:15 rue_more ugh
19:16 orlock electric/electronic i hope
19:16 orlock hmm
19:16 orlock the one they use to buzz patients into the wards from triage?
19:18 rue_more main front door
19:18 rue_more more fun to work on
19:18 rue_more in out in out outin in in in out in out
19:18 rue_more and of course the bit I have to work on is RIGHT in the middle
19:19 orlock think i understand how the reprap goes together
19:20 orlock got the Y axis sorta together
19:20 rue_more heh
19:20 rue_more your supposed to find the instructions
19:20 orlock got batteried for digital caliper today too
19:20 rue_more oh yea lr13
19:20 orlock retailer didnt even know which set of designes the parts were printed from
19:20 rue_more got to get some
19:20 orlock these were lr44's
19:21 rue_more yea, tuns out mines the standard kit with 8 different custom parts from different people
19:21 orlock i figure the calipers will come in handy aligning everything
19:21 orlock the Y idler you have
19:21 rue_more I had to use my cnc today to make slots for a new lever for the lock
19:21 orlock does it have a tensioner bolt?
19:21 rue_more got me realizing that there are a lot of little simple upgrades I can do on the machine
19:21 Rif yep
19:21 orlock mine doesnt
19:22 rue_more I dont remember how mine tightens
19:22 Rif you typically get what you pay for, you got a discount parts set right?
19:22 orlock $490 for whole kit
19:22 Rif you can just print new parts once you are up and running
19:22 orlock the guy selling them just reselles them from china as a lot
19:23 Rif yep, so you have about 300 worth of stuffing around to get it all perfect
19:23 orlock all the rods were wrapped up from china
19:23 Rif in the end it'll work out the same you watch
19:25 Rif and never a great thing to buy from someone that knows nothing about it, good for them though, they just throw there hands in the air and send you to us
19:26 orlock Rif: He knows a fair bit, and i know he wont sell the i2's anymore due to them sucking
19:27 orlock this was his first batch of i3 kits as well - be interesting to see if he stocks tem again
19:27 orlock He's more about the filament
19:30 Rif yep i am just being a cynical old bastard
19:30 Rif did you see the
19:30 GuShH hey that's MY job
19:30 Rif Y carriage images i posted for you the other day?
19:30 Rif was in the other room when you were asking for instructions
19:31 orlock Oh - maybe - Cant see them in my logs though
19:31 Rif yep and lost the link here, will have to setup a ingur account so all my posting are not so random and impossible to find
19:32 orlock Rif: This guy will do filament for $29/kg, free shipping within australia
19:32 Rif orlock, yep i tried 2 aussie suppliers for $30 filament this month, both are working well
19:32 orlock Rif: was araurum (sp) one?
19:32 Rif but will try em out, throw a link if you want
19:33 orlock http://www.aurarum.com.au/
19:33 Rif on ewas 3dprintergear and no idea who the other was right now
19:33 orlock hmm
19:33 orlock "matural" PLA? i wonder what that means
19:33 orlock its a few bucks more
19:34 orlock "natural" even
19:36 orlock Rif: but yeah, annoying not to even have a link to a BoM/manifest
19:36 orlock and i cant find a hobbed bolt - i have a electric drill and a tap though
19:43 rue_more orlock, I could send ya one
19:43 rue_more I think I have the specs
19:43 rue_more I'll provide bolt, you pay shipping
19:43 rue_more rifs lathe isn't set up, or I'm sure he'd be happy to
19:43 orlock its annoying that the only thing missing is the only bit thats not printed or off the shelf
19:44 rue_more orlock, what state you in?
19:44 rue_more shipping to austallia takes a while
19:45 orlock thanks for the offer
19:45 orlock but i will try and make one
19:45 orlock i think i have the bits
19:45 orlock really just needs a tap in a drill, a bolt in a jig, turned at some rate to evenly carve the teeth in?
19:46 orlock or will the act of the tap biting the bolt cause it to turn?
19:47 Rif hobbed bolt for wades?
19:47 Rif i like the learcnc stainless ones
19:47 orlock think its a wades extruder - its got a hinged bit, not chevroned teeth
19:49 rue_more tongith I'll pick away at once of hte cnc amchines, and I'll say taht tommorow I'll put the reprap out again
19:49 Rif http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LearCNC-Stainless-Steel-Hobbed-Bolt-for-Reprap-Mendel-Prusa-Rostock-3D-Printer-/200943504464
19:49 rue_more switch it up to the 1mm bit
19:51 orlock oh, thats where my rpi came from
19:52 orlock "Please advise required tooth profile (M5 or M6) at checkout else a random tooth profile will be supplied"
19:52 orlock Rif: cheers
19:53 Rif orlock, use m6 for 3mm, m5 for 1.75
19:53 orlock GF told people on facebook we have a 3d printer
19:53 orlock No.. no, we dont have a 3d printer
19:53 orlock i have a box of 3d printer parts
19:55 rue_more hahahaha
19:58 orlock Rif: Cheers. So i should maybe just get one of each?
19:58 orlock Rif: and its the same size bolt, its just an M5 or M6 tap thats being used to hob it?
20:01 Rif you can use either, yes its just the tooth profile on the hobb
20:01 Rif ,6 is a bit coarser
20:01 Rif m
20:10 Tom_itx orlock, 3mm tap and if you do some simple calcs for root diameter you can make them come out pretty decent: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/reprap/drive5.jpg
20:10 Tom_itx first attempt
20:10 Rif nice work
20:11 Tom_itx turn the tap
20:11 Tom_itx freewheel the part
21:16 GuShH rue_more: http://imgur.com/FxP52Be I need to go buy some studs, got nothing left on this size :(
21:17 GuShH but I think they'll work fine
21:17 Rif Tom_itx, do you think the hobb is a bit deep maybe? might damage filament too much
21:17 Tom_itx could be
21:18 GuShH yeah quite deep
21:18 Tom_itx it was a test just to see if i could
21:18 GuShH I did that test also!
21:18 Rif only thinking because i retract over the same place many times, but for a one time feed with no retracts it might be ok
21:19 GuShH I never got to see Tom_itx's lathe :(
21:20 GuShH rue_more: see this was a nice project for casting the blanks, kinda sucks having to use billets. next time if I'm setup I'll try casting them
21:20 Rif GuShH, did you make those feet on lathe?
21:20 GuShH sure, didn't turn the outer surface of them though
21:21 Rif cool, would be a great thing to make from casting though
21:21 GuShH yeah or steel
21:21 Rif yep
21:21 GuShH but there's no way I'll have enough weight to shear these
21:22 GuShH I need them to level the mill stand
21:22 GuShH I wonder if I should use some rubber underneath, I don't want to bolt it to the ground at this moment
22:22 TELunus Rue, my skype says you fell offline.
23:05 rue_more I gave up
23:05 rue_more I just wanted to know if my mic worked
23:48 theBear rue_more, i have a surplus of bitter cripple these days... i float between too much pain and too much painkillers... it's an impressively unfulfilling lifestyle !
23:49 rue_more I was going to ask if you would still take webpage work
23:51 rue_more theBear, do they know whats wrong?
23:51 theBear i dunno maaaan... it taken me almost a year to not quite commission the server i built, and all the time i could sit in a chair i tend to use trying to keep myself 1st-world, you know, food, hygeine, that kinda thing
23:52 theBear yeah, we moved from nice and congenital to degenerative and effed
23:52 theBear they chopped some bits out a few months ago, nice big scar
23:52 orlock damn :-(
23:53 theBear yeah, it's a bit "gay", as the kids used to say
23:54 theBear got an appt pending for early next year... looking like my last decent chance, that or the stemcell trials maybe, they starting around now
23:55 rue_more so, are you waiting for results on recent surgery?
23:55 rue_more or it disn't work
23:55 theBear and now i'm about 11hours short of cigarettes this week... these are the occassions i get to remind myself i'm still awesome these days <grin> gotta take the small victories, and cigarettes ARE small
23:56 theBear oh it worked, now only my foot doesn't feel or go up, before the surgery i was in horrible pain and whole bottom half of my leg was numb and useless
23:57 theBear like, REALLY horrible pain, not just this concentration destroying regular pain :-)
23:57 rue_more I presume its likey to get better as things heal and deflame?
23:57 rue_more I forgot what happened that triggered it
23:58 rue_more work accident?
23:58 theBear well, errrrrr, that's kinda the thing with "nerve damage" and "degenerative condition" ... if a nerve don't heal in a month or so, you ain't got much chance of ever lifting your foot again, and degenerative is a slippery downhill slope
23:58 theBear there was the car accident, that just accelerated me by i dunno, 20 or 40 years
23:58 rue_more hmm'
23:59 theBear but i was always doomed, things were never the right shape, and yer back ain't sposed to hit yer hipbone like mine does
23:59 rue_more I suppose if I could put your brian on life support in a jar youd take up quic on the offer?
23:59 theBear so long as i had some kind of fluid port, you know, for plasmas and such
23:59 theBear liquor is a plasma right ?
