00:19 rue_shop2 yay
00:40 rue_house "he's trying to find his face, but he's sure not succeeding
00:40 rue_house "
12:59 rue_house hahaha
13:00 rue_house I think I worked out why the tank temp sensor keeps failing
13:00 deshipu it was turned into chocolate by a malicious wizard?
13:00 rue_house its not fialing, its going into alarm, the default alarm of the lm75 is 80c, when it goes into alarm it pulls the data line on the i2c bus low
13:00 rue_house hahah
13:00 deshipu so disappoint
13:01 rue_house ok, I have about 1 hour to fix the truck window
13:02 rue_house then lunch, then go shopping
13:02 rue_house get sand for the sand blaster
13:02 rue_house and air fittings for the compressor
13:03 deshipu have a blast
17:09 rue_house the new sand works great
17:11 rue_house I barely had enough of the old stuff, so it kept running out when some would pile up in places
17:12 rue_house next I need a screen to catch bits of junk that come off stuff and plug up the pickup tube
18:55 Tom_itx ok now i need a motor
19:12 rue_shop2 what kinda motor
19:12 rue_shop2 I couldn't find any belts of the right size at the auto store
19:12 Tom_itx spindle
19:12 rue_shop2 oh, it cant do what you need?
19:13 Tom_itx it did what i need
19:14 Tom_itx i was trying to fix the bearings on the motor and i screwed it up
19:18 rue_shop2 the old brushholders expode when you pull out the armature?
19:19 Tom_itx well i cracked one but i did worse than that
19:19 Tom_itx the brushes are internal and no way to pull them back when you take it apart
19:19 Tom_itx for one.
19:19 rue_shop2 the old bump the armature just enough to cut a winding?
19:19 rue_shop2 there is uaually a hole for a retainer pin
19:19 Tom_itx i was tapping on the shaft to see if i could free the endbell and the armature moved instead
19:20 Tom_itx and guess what happened then?
19:20 rue_shop2 the holders exploded
19:20 Tom_itx i pulled some of the wires from the comutator
19:20 rue_shop2 ah
19:20 rue_shop2 oops
19:20 Tom_itx i got the armature back but i have no idea where the wires go now
19:20 rue_shop2 that makes for a frustrating day
19:20 Tom_itx yup
19:20 Tom_itx added to an already bad one
19:20 rue_shop2 hmm
19:21 rue_shop2 so, did the bearings slip and notch the shaft?
19:21 Tom_itx i'm wondering if i should get a control that has reverse or maybe a BLDC
19:21 Tom_itx the bearings didn't move
19:21 Tom_itx it's not made to be serviceable
19:21 Tom_itx that i can see
19:21 rue_shop2 wel, seems you need speed more than torque, a bldc could really work out
19:22 rue_shop2 sometimes you have to take the endbell and armature out as one
19:22 rue_shop2 makes getting it all back in a real futz
19:22 Tom_itx no snap ring etc holding the front one it... it looks like it was stamped in place
19:22 Tom_itx i did take it out as one
19:22 rue_shop2 hmm
19:22 Tom_itx i should have made a puller instead i suppose
19:23 rue_shop2 my experiance is that many times the result is the same nomatter what method you use
19:23 Tom_itx i didn't think it would be pressed on the shaft but apparently it was
19:23 Tom_itx both ends
19:23 Tom_itx any way to meter the windings to fix it?
19:23 Tom_itx without too much fuss....
19:23 rue_shop2 whats the top voltage to the motor?
19:24 Tom_itx 90v
19:24 Tom_itx ~200w
19:24 rue_shop2 not really, there is a winding offset
19:24 Tom_itx i know
19:24 rue_shop2 so a DC treadmill motor might be a nice upgrade
19:24 Tom_itx i asked a local winding shop and he said throw it away
19:25 Tom_itx problem with that is i'd have to get a controller for it
19:25 rue_shop2 or a motor from a large high quality electric weed eater
19:25 Tom_itx and the added weight wouldn't work on the mill z axis
19:25 Tom_itx it's already a problem
19:25 rue_shop2 (the bridge rectifiers burn out)
19:25 rue_shop2 ? does it have to lift the motor?
19:25 Tom_itx yes
19:25 rue_shop2 hmm
19:25 Tom_itx that's why i have a counterweight on z to help it
19:25 rue_shop2 some pullies and a counterweight
19:25 rue_shop2 :)
19:25 Tom_itx already done
19:26 rue_shop2 thats a tough one
19:26 Tom_L http://www.glockcnc.com/sherline%20taig%20motor%20upgrades.htm
19:26 rue_shop2 those are my suggestions for used ones
19:26 Tom_L these are nice but too $$$
19:27 rue_shop2 I bet there are RC BLDC that are the same power
19:28 rue_shop2 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Scorpion-SII-2215-1810-V2-Brushless-Outrunner-Motor-25A-260-watts-1810kv-/390959136984?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5b06fb00d8
19:28 rue_shop2 hehe
19:28 Tom_L problem is i need compact lightweight and powerful
19:29 rue_shop2 thats 260W, and it'll be a lot lighter than the one you had!
19:29 Tom_L that thing wouldn't last long
19:29 Tom_L those run way too hot
19:29 Tom_L and the timing on them is jacked way up
19:29 rue_shop2 I havn't played much
19:29 Tom_L i can get a replacement motor
19:29 rue_shop2 you would have a shaft adapting nightmare
19:29 Tom_L just weighing my options
19:30 Tom_L and it would probably spin on the shaft no matter what you did
19:30 rue_shop2 for all your putting into it, your gonna have to get that machine to make you some money
19:30 Tom_L ultimately i'd like reverse with encoder feedback
19:30 Tom_L so i can do rigid tapping
19:31 Tom_L it's made me money
19:31 rue_shop2 ? do you have a tapping head?
19:31 Tom_L no
19:31 Tom_L you don't need it for rigid tapping
19:31 rue_shop2 ?
19:31 Tom_L that's cheating
19:32 rue_shop2 you would need a really hefty mtoor to get the rpm down to the right levels at those torques to tap with just a chuck
19:32 Tom_L http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVdr-WZTcpA
19:32 rue_shop2 bah, this thing cant youtube
19:33 rue_shop2 its only a pentuim 4 cellery
19:33 rue_shop2 I need to get some progress on a robot arm, power supply, or reprap
19:33 RifRaf yes you do
19:34 Tom_L you moved again
19:35 RifRaf yep, all me stuff still in car for now
19:36 RifRaf doin some couch surfing
19:42 rue_shop2 RifRaf, people or pressure didn't work?
19:43 Tom_L http://www.sherline.com/6500pg.htm
19:43 Tom_L why would you put a stepper on a spindle??
19:43 rue_shop2 Tom_itx, one way to look at it is that you had to repalce it anyhow, and you were just playing the chance it could be services
19:43 rue_shop2 d
19:43 rue_shop2 Tom_itx, its a new type of brushless
19:44 rue_shop2 loooks just like a stepper
19:44 rue_shop2 its come up before
19:44 rue_shop2 oh
19:44 rue_shop2 nevermind
19:44 rue_shop2 thats odd
19:44 Tom_L :)
19:45 rue_shop2 there is a type of brushless that uses the same form factor etc as the standard sized steppers
19:45 Tom_L yeah
19:46 Tom_L http://www.kollmorgen.com/en-us/products/motors/servo/servomotors/
19:46 rue_shop2 RifRaf, keep me posted on your progress eh?
19:47 rue_shop2 Tom_itx, looks like one of those "if your asking what the price is, you cant afford it" places
19:47 Tom_L i know
19:48 rue_shop2 I never thought about it, but the head on my cnc is actually glued to the shaft
19:49 rue_shop2 other than that, its a standard bearing
19:53 RifRaf rue_shop2, was nothing in particular, was actually liking it up there for the most part
19:58 rue_shop2 2 of the servos on this arm are mixed up...
19:59 Tom_itx so am i
19:59 Tom_L https://www.sherlinedirect.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1135&CFID=43152367&CFTOKEN=62470767
19:59 Tom_L that's not very much power
20:00 rue_shop2 ooo h yea
20:00 rue_shop2 so 260 would be overkill
20:00 Tom_L no
20:01 Tom_L those other guys sell a 600 - 1400w motor for it
20:01 rue_shop2 RifRaf, you dont much arduino in all that spare time you have?
20:02 rue_shop2 ... the gripper is bolted on 180 degrees out
20:02 rue_shop2 I should take this back for a repalcement
20:02 rue_shop2 I think I'v worked out the zero corrections tho
20:02 RifRaf heh, only arduino stuff has been reprap and a bit with these linear encoders
20:03 rue_shop2 0, 40, -58, -10, 65, -70
20:03 rue_shop2 thats how far in degrees the motors are out from 0 at the zero stance
20:09 rue_shop2 RifRaf, did you see these arms I been making/
20:09 rue_shop2 ?
20:09 RifRaf i saw some a few weeks back
20:09 rue_shop2 http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm9/slide.htm
20:09 RifRaf got any video?
20:10 rue_shop2 not yet, I'm just playing with software now
20:10 rue_shop2 I made a slave arm control thingle
20:10 rue_shop2 just working on coding it up so I can move it realtime
20:10 Jak_o_Shadows soon I will finally build the 3d printer, and then make nicer joints for robot arm
20:11 Jak_o_Shadows Also, I approve of the slide show
20:11 rue_shop2 yea, your like the rest, you just wish the controls worked
20:11 rue_shop2 ;)
20:11 Jak_o_Shadows I have some control software half-written
20:12 rue_shop2 all I have to do it have it mod the behaviour of the javascript, I'v not bothered yet
20:14 Jak_o_Shadows the pause worked
20:18 rue_shop2 uh, those are 3 dead links...
20:19 rue_shop2 it prolly finifhed
20:19 rue_shop2 er, it repeats
20:19 rue_shop2 your computer crashed.
20:19 Jak_o_Shadows nah, it worked
20:19 rue_shop2 hheheheh I have enough robots for an assembly line!
20:20 rue_shop2 dude, I'm sure I didn't put any code into those links
20:20 Jak_o_Shadows so I clicked pause just when it got to the 3 dead links?
20:20 rue_shop2 <div id="filename" style="font-size:15px; center;color:#FF4444;"> ILLEGAL UNHANDLED NULL POINTER EXCEPTIONAL FAULT. </div> <!-- tee hee hee -->
20:20 rue_shop2 <a-href > &lt&lt || &gt&gt </a-href>
20:20 rue_shop2 </div>
20:20 rue_shop2 :P
20:21 Jak_o_Shadows aha
20:22 rue_shop2 oh damnit,
20:23 rue_shop2 I forgot the word overflow in there
21:00 rue_shop2 this willbe interseting
21:00 rue_shop2 the pendant and the arm are both calibrated in degrees
21:01 rue_shop2 and the zero stances are matched
21:01 rue_shop2 which means the only difference might be the signs of the angles
21:40 rue_shop2 whatever jammed itself in the threads of the lathe has since worked its way out
21:41 Tom_itx tell it to find a new home
21:42 rue_shop2 means I never did find it
21:42 Tom_itx can we start this day over?
21:43 Tom_itx then again... would it turn out any different?
21:43 rue_shop2 I'm sure it would find a different way to come out the same
21:43 rue_shop2 if your feeling frustrated cause you have to go to sleep without a resolution on the machine I can only say its a feeling I'v felt before
21:44 Tom_itx no not really
21:44 Tom_itx i'm just pissed at myself really
21:44 rue_shop2 been there too
21:44 Tom_itx the bearings _were_ noisy but it was still working just fine
21:44 rue_shop2 cant just leave well enough alone?
21:45 Tom_itx i was working on part of it so i figured i'd fix it all while i was there
21:45 rue_shop2 yup
21:45 rue_shop2 right now my boiler is down
21:45 Tom_itx i noticed your thing about the lm75's
21:45 rue_shop2 in order to fix its bearings I had to remove the shaft from the old bearings,
21:46 rue_shop2 when I finally got the shaft out (I wasn't sure if the bearings survived the process) I found out that they had spun, and there were two deep grooves in the shaft
21:46 rue_shop2 to remove the shaft I had to DESTROY it
21:47 rue_shop2 with all the peices revamped I'm left with a half inch shaft, but
21:47 rue_shop2 (a new one)
21:47 orlock rue: ever use spi under linux?
21:47 rue_shop2 the sprocket that drives it fit on a smaller bit on the end, which the new shaft dosn't have
21:47 rue_shop2 orlock, no... parallel port i2c
21:47 rue_shop2 so right now there motor has no way to drive the blower
21:48 rue_shop2 and I cant find a small belt like your sherline has
21:48 Tom_itx sewing machine shop
21:48 rue_shop2 ..... do those even exist anymore?
21:49 Tom_itx that's where i got my replacements
21:49 rue_shop2 huh
21:49 rue_shop2 I know of a button shop, I'll try there
21:49 Tom_itx you can get em on ebay too i bet
21:49 rue_shop2 cant wait 22 days or I could ebay it
21:49 Tom_itx if you know the length
21:49 rue_shop2 about <----------------> that far
21:50 Tom_itx you can see how shredded the one on the mill was in those pics i posted
21:50 Tom_itx i was able to finish the batch of boxes with it
21:50 rue_shop2 my motor is bigger too
21:50 rue_shop2 lower rpm tho
21:50 Tom_itx you should get timing belts
21:50 rue_shop2 I was looking at the ones I have
21:50 rue_shop2 but the puulies are tooo expensive for it
21:51 rue_shop2 the shaft of the blower prolly sits at about 140c
21:51 rue_shop2 so...
21:51 Tom_itx the belt fix turned out nice i think
