00:25 rue_house use a tv remote reciever
00:27 Tom_L rue_house, need a spare? http://tom-itx.ddns01.com:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/Boxes/blue1_batch.jpg
00:29 Tom_itx got the boxes milled and silkscreened tonight
00:29 rue_house cool
00:29 rue_house I wish I got into sil screening when I suggested you did
00:29 rue_house looks awesome tom!
00:30 Tom_itx silkscreen is pretty easy really
00:30 Tom_itx got lotsa extra boxes if you need a project box...
00:32 rue_house little on the small side for me
00:32 rue_house but I'v found that almost as usefull are ] bent strips of sheet metal
00:32 rue_house to use as bases
00:34 Tom_itx i got a sample of one that size but deeper too
00:34 Tom_itx and a couple larger handheld type
00:35 Tom_itx i doubt i'll ever use those
00:36 rue_house hmm
00:36 rue_house the new cnc will need a pendant...
00:38 Tom_itx yeah those are really handy to have
00:44 Guest19572 rue_house, thank you. is it frequency modulation kind of thing?
01:00 rue_house Guest19572, are you aware of the demodulated tv remote recievers?
01:00 rue_house they have an AGC circuit in them that is the most important part of all the magic
01:02 Jak_o_Shadows LaTeX is sorta ok
01:05 rue_shop2 2am
01:05 rue_shop2 its 10:45 now
01:05 rue_shop2 4 hours
01:05 rue_shop2 ok
01:06 Guest19572 rue_house, AGC circuit sounds amazing. thank you!!
01:11 rue_shop2 Guest19572, are you familiar with the tv IR recievers?
01:13 rue_shop2 http://www.ebay.com/itm/EL36-20PCS-Universal-IR-Infrared-Receiver-TL1838-VS1838B-38Khz-/140735790996?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0
01:13 Guest19572 no I am not familiar with it
01:15 Guest19572 wow in that small package? i am impressed
01:24 orlock rue: you awake?
01:39 rue_shop2 yes, I'm doing things in my shop
01:40 orlock you can telnet to one of those chips on cold.crypt.net.au on port 9999
01:41 orlock although the current firmware i have seems to be crap, it reboots after every time it sends data
01:41 rue_shop2 why do I want to do that?
01:42 rue_shop2 if the 1n4752a is a 33V zener, whats it doing in the 10V bag?
01:42 orlock so you can make a tcp socket connection to something with built in wireless that cost $7 thats the size of a toenail
01:43 rue_shop2 if I could get it, if I wanted to use wireless...
01:44 rue_shop2 ana 1N961
01:44 rue_shop2 10V
01:44 orlock latency on the lan is above 200ms
01:45 rue_shop2 heh
01:45 orlock and it crashes every time it sends a data packet
01:45 orlock but at least it reboots fast
01:45 orlock i need to update firmware
04:35 rue_shop2 ok ! i built the charger!
04:35 rue_shop2 just testing it now
06:36 Apple314 Hy guys. I have a question, here goes: I am trying to build a circuit that will activate once a day. Can I use (555 Timers) to send a pulse to arduino every 24 hours, because I am trying to use arduino enerlib to save energie.Cab 555 be trigger to wake up arduino?
06:38 Jak_o_Shadows I would've thought the arduino could do that by itself
06:38 Jak_o_Shadows Also, i dunno if you'd save energy doig that
06:40 Apple314 If arduino is in energy.PowerDown() it draws little power, and can be waken up only by interupt. And I thought 555 could provide interupt every 24hour, so arduino could wake up and do its buisness... Could it be done like this?
06:41 Jak_o_Shadows a) I am unsure of whether the 555 can get to 24hours (completley unsure, as much as you)
06:41 Jak_o_Shadows b) How much power does a 555 use?
06:44 Apple314 b) 555 3 to 6 mA (from wikipedia). a) I have not used 555, that's why i'm asking :(
06:45 Jak_o_Shadows Please don't take me as being negative
06:50 orlock YAY
06:50 orlock UPDATED FIRMWARE ON THE 8266
06:50 orlock crap
06:51 orlock sorry for shouting, i have been yalling AT commands over serial at a microcontroller
06:52 orlock now its at a stage i would call functioning
06:52 Apple314 no problem. Maybe there is some chip that uses minimal power and ca drive servo for 0.1s a day (like clock)? Anyone please advise?
06:55 orlock Apple314: do you have any specific requirements? at the moment it sounds like you should buy a clock?
06:56 orlock what sort of rotation over what timescale do you need? does it have to rotate continously?
06:56 orlock literally a servo, or a stepper?
06:59 Apple314 Yeah but more linear. The servo should move as time goes by 360 days...
06:59 Jak_o_Shadows What are you trying to do? Seems long-term?
06:59 orlock rotate how much each year?
07:00 orlock solar collector?
07:03 Apple314 I think 360 servo would be used. The idea is that the servo moves only small amount each day. I have more or less solved, but now I see energie is the problem. Solar collector, I thought of that but it must be low cost and battery operated. So arduino(or enything that has the capability) of driving servo few millimeters each day, and should run continouslly for 1 year. Any sugestions? A nudgde in the right direction?
07:07 orlock without more details, like load, you are talking about a clock
07:08 Apple314 orlock: Yes. But the movment should be horizontal. Any ideas?
07:08 orlock i'd say a stepper, somebod yelse may have a better idea
07:11 Apple314 No i get that. My question is what chip power consumption wise would be the best choice, so I can see can it be done.
08:09 Apple314 Thank you all! I was having lunch, so I appologize. Just came up with solution. There is no way to make it last for a year, but I just spoke to the old watchmaker, and he said that souldn't be a problem... Seems like only viable solution(energie wise). Thank you all, and to all good night.
13:34 rue_bed-aok welll I guess I ought get up
13:37 Tom_itx ya think?
13:37 deshipu not worth it
14:11 rue_house too late
14:12 deshipu I had that presentation of my robots on a conference yesterday
14:12 deshipu I think they liked it
14:14 rue_house http://hackaday.com/2014/10/18/this-analog-cambot-plays-outside-the-lines/
14:14 rue_house I guess at some point microcontrollers became fast enough to capture lines of video
14:18 Steffanx and that point was like 10 years ago? The 16F84A is pretty old
14:20 Tom_itx Steffanx!
14:20 Steffanx lo Tom_itx, i just joined to see if there is still some activity here :)
14:43 Steffanx what robot deshipu?
14:44 deshipu Steffanx: several quadrupeds
14:45 deshipu Steffanx: I've been experimenting with them since some months
14:45 Steffanx no vid/webpage/photos/whatever?
14:45 deshipu http://sheep.art.pl/Robots
14:47 deshipu I'm still working on giving them any behaviors
14:50 deshipu I mean other than "be remotely controlled with a gamepad"
14:52 Tom_itx Steffanx what you been up to?
14:53 Steffanx not much, really.
14:53 Steffanx and sadly
14:54 Tom_itx well me either really
14:57 Steffanx i even gave away my(your) avr programmer because i had no use for it anymore :)
14:57 Tom_itx traitor
14:57 Tom_itx :)
14:58 Tom_itx i think you said that before
14:58 Tom_itx just finished another batch last night
15:00 Steffanx you still sell them?
15:00 Steffanx i guess so, otherwise you wouldnt make a new batch :)
15:02 Tom_itx heh
15:04 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.ddns01.com:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/Boxes/blue1_batch.jpg
16:19 rue_shop2 oooo wow, almost cooked my bench suppy
16:19 rue_shop2 its HOT
20:12 rue_shop2 yay, the sand blasting booth is 'done'
20:12 rue_shop2 working
