00:01 MrCurious hipsters.... dont let them near the idea farm....
00:07 rue_shop3 you know, its funny, I specficially didn't write my own hd447880 library for an avr, and I been modifyingthe persons I been using for... 6 years now
00:25 MrCurious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcVv9R1ZR84
00:25 MrCurious oops. sry
01:04 armyofevilrobots rue_shop3: Sorry I have been so scarce.
01:04 armyofevilrobots Been insane work, I shut down irc (and everything else) to stay focused.
01:05 myofevilrobots off to bed now, riding coast gravity park tomor
01:21 rue_shop3 11pm, I have to work on my polling interval
04:36 rue_shop3 its ok, I'm still up
04:37 rue_shop3 glued a 74164 to the back of an lcd and wrote a library for it (ok, well I just glued two old libraries togethor)
04:37 rue_shop3 its serial now
05:59 Jak_o_Shadows what the heck is the normal name for barrel jacks and plugs?
06:21 GargantuaSauce isnt that it?
06:22 Jak_o_Shadows ebay has less results than I would expect
06:22 GargantuaSauce "coaxial power connector"?
06:22 GargantuaSauce pretty sure they're mostly just called barrel jacks though
06:22 GargantuaSauce or barrel connector
06:22 GargantuaSauce http://www.digikey.ca/product-search/en/connectors-interconnects/barrel-power-connectors/1443096
06:23 GargantuaSauce or dc power connector
06:24 GargantuaSauce EIAJ connector
06:25 Jak_o_Shadows thanks
06:26 GargantuaSauce think just dc power connector has the most hits on fleabay
08:46 Tom_itx rca connector
08:47 Tom_itx bannana jacks
08:51 GargantuaSauce definitely not rca
11:31 MrCurious this got delivered. pretty nifty for working out the draw of robotic control boards http://www.ebay.com/itm/291205466462?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
11:38 MrCurious had no idea that PC trackballs pull 0.2W... thought it would have been an order of magnitude lower
11:40 fluffywolf ... 0.2W is not a lot of watt.
11:42 fluffywolf also, be wary of questionable accuracy from chinese power measurement devices. I have two larger ones, different models, both utterly wrong half the time.
11:48 GargantuaSauce yeah 40mA is rock bottom as far as usb devices go
11:49 fluffywolf I wouldn't expect much to draw only 4ma. :P
12:14 rue_house strange
12:14 rue_house nomatter how late I stay up, I cant sleep in past about 9:30am
12:16 rue_house armyofevilrobots, I'm interested if you would like to cast a part in aluminum
12:16 rue_house I'm doing various equipment tests
12:17 rue_house right now I'm doing re-usable forms
12:18 rue_house you take a plywood sheet with the shape you want to cast split over both sides of the board, the casting sand gets formed around it, board it removed, part is cast
12:19 rue_house should be able to do anything up to about 20cmx20cm x 8cm or so
12:19 rue_house (cope and drag size limit, the flask is like 6L)
12:49 MrCurious i suppose i could vet it, feeding it off my bench supply
12:49 MrCurious fluffywolf: the usb power meter (the line above)
12:54 fluffywolf or just stick a 100 ohm resistor in the plug and see if it reads 50ma...
12:55 fluffywolf rue_house: I would like to cast aluminum light fixtures... about 12" diameter and 1.5" thick.
12:55 fluffywolf maybe 8" to start
12:55 fluffywolf (for even more accuracy, stick the resistor in the plug in series with your multimeter, for a current reading)
13:05 rue_shop3 it occurs to me that the audio beeper and the IR transmitters could be on the same output line
13:19 deshipu rue_shop3: additional modulation won't hurt the ir?
13:21 deshipu rue_shop3: or are they not used at the same time?
13:23 fluffywolf a low/highpass pair...
13:23 fluffywolf although the speaker probably doesn't need a lowpass, as its inductance should do a good enough job
13:25 deshipu if it's a coil-based speaker, then yeah
13:25 deshipu the piezo buzzers can go pretty high
13:26 fluffywolf as long as you don't have any ultrasonic receivers nearby... :P
13:26 deshipu like, for example, dogs
13:28 fluffywolf animals seem to ignore the existance of my ultrasonic cleaner.
13:29 fluffywolf my neighbor's cat likes sleeping near mine, and doesn't give it more than a glance if I turn it on.
13:31 deshipu maybe it's too high
13:33 fluffywolf I keep it in the greenhouse, because the harmonics/resonances/etc are annoying as fuck. heh.
14:22 rue_more the robot is a bit more fun to work on with an lcd attached
14:23 rue_more zlog
14:30 mrdata local time i see
14:31 mrdata wait
14:31 mrdata it's wonky
14:32 mrdata rue_more, the clock on your zlog is late by about 40 minutes
14:32 mrdata (eastern time)
14:34 mrdata or early 20 minutes if youre on central time
14:35 rue_more Tom_itx, ^^
14:41 mrdata Tom_itx, do you run that server virtualized? time problems are common for guest OSes
14:46 mrdata nm, i'm getting ahead of myself;
14:46 mrdata but i'll be able to tell, later
14:46 deshipu have you ever considered a steam-powered robot? :D
14:47 mrdata sounds awesome
14:47 deshipu http://www.instructables.com/id/Steam-Turret-Tank/ <-- a guy made a steam tank
14:47 deshipu sure, he used ready parts
14:49 mrdata is it rc controlled?
14:49 mrdata it doesnt look like it's really steam powered
14:49 deshipu it's rc, yeah
14:50 rue_more I'v tried all sorts of angles on things I thought had would have interest in and I just dont get them
14:50 deshipu http://www.instructables.com/id/Steam-Turret-Tank/step12/Fuel-Pipe/
14:51 deshipu this is the inside
15:05 rue_more hmm, the TF card for the tablet just flew past my head
15:05 rue_more I just wanted to add files to it...
15:06 SecretFire cool steam turret tank
16:18 MrCurious what... https://nurdspace.nl/ESP8266 where...... http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?SearchText=ESP8266&catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20140901120604
16:27 rue_shop3 yup
16:27 rue_shop3 china takes LOTS of open source projects and manufactures the heck outa them
16:28 MrCurious looks cool for cheapo non sophisticated IOT devices
16:55 Solarlux Hello all
16:55 Solarlux I need help
17:00 deshipu no, no, no, no, all wrong
17:00 deshipu you are doing it wrong
17:00 deshipu you have to ask a question
17:00 deshipu one more time
17:00 MrCurious wait...
17:01 MrCurious let me try my psychic powers out to help him...
17:01 MrCurious replace th dead battery and you should be good to go
17:01 deshipu my crystal ball is out of batteries, I need to make tea
17:01 deshipu MrCurious: you read mine
17:01 deshipu MrCurious: focus
17:02 MrCurious ewwwww.... is that even physically possible???
17:02 Solarlux I 'm dumb i can't understand PIC programming
17:02 Solarlux )=
17:03 deshipu get a raspberry pi and program in python! solved! \o/
17:03 Solarlux I want in C
17:03 Solarlux But nowhere i cant find simple tutorials
17:03 Solarlux My fav language is C++
17:03 MrCurious go to google. search for: pic example program
17:04 deshipu Solarlux: how many languages did you try?
17:04 Solarlux Yes but i can't find there in small steps
17:04 MrCurious i thought pic was soooo 2000
17:04 deshipu out of curiosity
17:04 Solarlux PHP C++
17:04 Solarlux But not in advanced level
17:04 deshipu ok, I have to agree that out of the two, C++ is the better one
17:05 Solarlux But not C++ used in PIC programming
17:05 Solarlux ONly C
17:05 Solarlux I know C++ is from C familly
17:05 Solarlux I see bits for example
17:05 Solarlux I need set for example input and ouput pins
17:06 Solarlux I need set it as variables built in memory already
17:06 Solarlux How can i access these variables
17:12 deshipu [crickets]
17:13 deshipu I guess you will have to google for a tutorial, as nobody here seems to know
17:14 deshipu but I'm sure it's easier than it seems, if you just do the whole tutorial from start to end
17:16 MrCurious or... plan B....
17:16 MrCurious buy an arduino.
17:16 MrCurious tons of clue on the net about using those
17:18 MrCurious ordered 5 of these :) http://www.aliexpress.com/item/ESP8266-serial-WIFI-wireless-transceiver-module/2032176105.html
17:18 Tom_itx maybe dumb for choosing PIC to program
17:21 Tom_itx one just wasn't enough?
17:22 Tom_itx Solarlux, i used CCS C when i was doing pic way way back
17:23 MrCurious did you learn nothing from the movie contact?
17:23 MrCurious "why buy one when you can get two for twice the price"
17:40 Solarlux Tom_itx Yes i am dumb
17:40 Solarlux But i want make some sense of PICS
17:40 Solarlux I know phisicaly how they work
17:40 Solarlux But how can i cinfigure and when triger
17:41 Solarlux trigger output voltage
17:41 Solarlux for led for example
19:50 rue_more armyofevilrobots, ping
21:14 rue_more !traceamps
21:14 Gigs rue_more: Usage: !traceamp <amps> <ounces> <tempRiseinC>, tells the required tracewidth for copper clad of weight <ounces> to carry <amps> with a max temperature rise of <temprise> over ambient
21:15 rue_more !traceamps 10 160 1
21:15 Gigs rue_more: Internal: 32.0mils, Surface: 8.0mils
21:26 rue_more I cant wait till be learns what it means
21:49 mrdata nice
21:49 mrdata til who learns?
21:51 rue_more guy in #avr
22:47 rue_shop3 I need to sit down with this arm and work out what to make it do
22:47 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, ping
23:19 rue_shop3 armyofevilrobots, ping
23:25 rue_shop3 hmmm, one fileserver would be nice
23:25 rue_shop3 hmm
23:55 armyofevilrobots @rue: Pong.
23:55 rue_shop3 there you are
23:55 rue_shop3 catch my text earlier?
23:55 armyofevilrobots Reading back scroll now.
23:55 rue_shop3 pff, I'm wondering ifyou have anything you want to cast in alum
23:55 rue_shop3 I have the casting sand going
23:56 armyofevilrobots Ah. awesome.
23:56 rue_shop3 I'm thinking if you want to mill up a split + of something
23:56 armyofevilrobots I might be able to think something up.
23:56 armyofevilrobots we could do a slip cast part in PLA on the 3d printer too. It vaporizes out really nice.
23:56 rue_shop3 so far, I have a alum culinder that I been testing on
23:56 rue_shop3 dont have to
23:56 rue_shop3 with the casting sand, you make a plate with your part splitover it
23:56 armyofevilrobots Yeah, I see, casting sand. :)
23:57 armyofevilrobots it would be cool to do some more traditional pattern making.
23:57 rue_shop3 put the cope on, pack in the sand, flip over, put on drag, pack in sand, remove form, pour
23:57 rue_shop3 your cnc means you can do fancy things
23:57 armyofevilrobots I think I have some 5 degree taper mills too.
23:57 armyofevilrobots might have to dig around...
23:58 rue_shop3 anyhow, I'm looking for something interesting to do the next few castings with
23:58 rue_shop3 the cope/drag I have is only about 25x25 x 10cm
23:58 rue_shop3 (as far as what can be cast)
23:58 rue_shop3 but the flask if about 6L
23:59 armyofevilrobots That's plenty big to make a lot of stuff.
23:59 armyofevilrobots Where did you get the green sand (or is it just kittylitter)?
23:59 rue_shop3 at some point I have to make 4 pipe bender rollers
23:59 rue_shop3 its a special kittylitter mix
23:59 rue_shop3 I made a ball mill and ground the snot out of the kitty litter
23:59 rue_shop3 works good
23:59 rue_shop3 done 3 castings so far
