00:11 zhanx Tom_itx alive?
00:15 rue_shop2 zhanx, seen the latest bot?
00:15 zhanx no
00:15 rue_shop2 shall I give you a directory to paw thru?
00:16 zhanx on a tablet with a broken screen (digitizer) go easy on bluetooth control
00:16 rue_shop2 http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm8/p1060649.jpg
00:16 rue_shop2 ok, thats how the story ends
00:16 rue_shop2 see directory as desired
00:17 zhanx gripper = bad
00:17 rue_shop2 what!
00:17 rue_shop2 I liked that!
00:17 zhanx working on something better
00:17 rue_shop2 its parallel, and its low peice count
00:18 zhanx clocks are cool. and old ones better
00:18 rue_shop2 I'm really trying to keep the peice count down
00:18 zhanx not me
00:19 rue_shop2 the time on my robots goes way up with the custom peice count
00:19 rue_shop2 buddy III is a testiment to having too many custom peices
00:19 zhanx working on that
00:19 zhanx printer parts
00:19 zhanx i have 14 now
00:20 zhanx i need a few more
00:21 zhanx figured out what we missed. geaing to power. why use lots of power when you can gear it down.
00:22 zhanx why not use a 3v motor and proper gearing
00:23 zhanx clocks rule they (the old ones use zero power after you crank them)
00:23 zhanx you following rue?
00:23 rue_shop2 sure
00:24 zhanx so part count goes like 100x
00:24 zhanx power requirement -10x
00:25 zhanx but it will be slower at first
00:41 rue_shop2 ok , my controller concept will work, which is good, cause I'v just finished soldering it togethor
00:48 rue_shop2 I need supper...
01:19 rue_shop2 drat, looks like the m328 uart is completely different
01:39 rue_shop2 damnit there is no compare for timer 1 on the 328
01:39 rue_shop2 sure glad I put down all the engineering numbers behind the timers
03:02 rue_shop2 ok that has it down to uart problems
03:08 rue_shop2 well this is interesting
03:08 rue_shop2 I think the cat is trying to lead me
03:08 rue_shop2 she jumped in the window
03:08 rue_shop2 and now wants out the door
03:08 rue_shop2 she knows she can jump out the window
03:12 rue_shop2 hahah it compiled
03:12 rue_shop2 I wish that meant something
03:17 rue_shop2 "make: avrdude: Command not found" WHAAAAAT!?!
03:18 rue_shop2 oooh I remmeber this, the version of avrdude available to debian dosn't support the m328p
03:28 rue_shop2 bah, 1am
03:28 rue_shop2 I cant think
09:45 Tom_itx looks like rue_shop2 is frustrated with his code conversion idea
11:21 rue_house I can only go so long and then my brain stops
11:22 rue_house I find myself staring at the text thinking about how funny the little glyphs look
11:53 rue_house ok, I have a song stuck in my head, I cant make out any of the words, so I'll hum it and someone here tell me what it is!
11:53 rue_house see, it sounds like matchbox 20, but from what I can tell, its not
11:53 Tom_itx can't get you outta my mind?
11:53 rue_house I'll hum it again
11:54 GuShH ...
11:54 GuShH rue_house: C4 will get the song unstuck
11:54 GuShH Tom_itx: mill coming in on thursday! for restoration though, I couldn't find a better one
11:54 rue_house who sounds like matchbox 20?
11:54 GuShH matchbox 20
11:55 rue_house anyone else?
11:55 GuShH 600mm or so on the X
11:55 Tom_itx megadeth
11:55 GuShH how old are you guys....
11:55 rue_house its that guitar intro
11:55 GuShH I got this dust smell when I enter #robotics these days
11:55 rue_house I'm 105, or 150, I lost track somewhere...
11:56 rue_house GuShH, I been working on that
11:56 Tom_itx simon & garfunkle?
11:56 rue_house I'm sure, the first 4 words are "to have, to hold"
11:56 rue_house and I'm sure somewhere he says "the flame"
11:56 rue_house and something about "without a name"
11:56 GuShH here, hold my flame I mean beer
11:56 GuShH fzzzz
11:57 Tom_itx http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/depechemode/tohaveandtohold.html
11:58 Tom_itx http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/colinhay/tohaveandtohold.html
11:59 rue_house nope *2
11:59 Tom_itx ok you're turn to guess...
11:59 Tom_itx your
11:59 rue_house I'm repeating it in my mind, trying to make out more words
12:00 rue_house I think the song has a 1 word title
12:00 rue_house something about dawn or sacrifice or soemthing
12:00 Tom_itx doom?
12:01 rue_house nope..
12:01 rue_house I'm sure its on the shop jukebox, and its only got a few hundred songs
12:03 rue_house its not 54-40
12:11 rue_house maybe its not been written yet, I hate it when that happens
12:21 Tom_itx what about 4130?
12:21 rue_house I"m randomyl going thru songs on my computer, and I really felt like stopping on "still havn't found what I'm looking for"
12:22 Tom_itx it mustuv been one you've heard recently
12:22 rue_house nope
12:23 Tom_itx or possibly one you haven't heard recently...
12:25 Tom_itx your bots are planting thoughts into your head
12:25 Tom_itx they will take you over without you knowing it
13:04 rue_house I'm gonna get concrete board for making the heater box for the vacuum former
13:04 rue_house and a round concrete thing, I'm gonna make a sundial
13:05 rue_house (the best one ever)
13:08 rue_house I fixed the audio lines to my computer speakers :)
13:08 rue_house thats been on my todo list for atleast 3 years
13:20 Tom_itx put it on your todone list now
14:12 rue_shop2 ok I got the round paver for making a sundial and the concrete board for making the oven for the vacuum former
14:13 rue_shop2 ok I need to fix the servo code
14:14 rue_shop2 I also need to figure out a knee/elbow for the 12' mecha
14:14 rue_shop2 and I should set up the casting equipement again
14:14 rue_shop2 :/ I really wanted to do it with dad
14:15 MrCurious i think a darwin award should be issued to the nation of Liberia....http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/ebola-clinic-looted-by-liberian-slum-residents-1.2738868
14:20 rue_shop2 mayhbe they weren't giving out medicine
14:20 rue_shop2 "for wealthy only"
14:20 rue_shop2 hmm I have a huge todo list for the boiler system
14:21 rue_shop2 the main tank was replaced and all the little things need to be put back
14:21 rue_shop2 and the wood shed became storage for... everything
14:28 rue_shop2 can I get someone to propose a knee/elbow joint for a 12' mecha?
14:33 rue_shop2 where do I store 60' of elevator cable?
14:37 Tom_itx in a 60' elevator shaft
14:38 Tom_itx 2" pvc inside just slightly larger pvc for a joint
14:39 rue_shop2 hmm
14:39 rue_shop2 I'm kinda torn between one big ass pin and distributing the load amongst several pins
15:08 Tom_itx go big or go home
15:08 Tom_itx big is also heavy
15:09 Tom_itx heavy is horsepower to move
15:09 Tom_itx horsepower to move is more batteries
15:21 rue_shop2 yea, but were talking about a 12' robot
15:21 rue_shop2 I'm expecting between 2000 and 3000lbs
15:22 rue_shop2 tho ya know, all laid out on the yard, its NOT that big
15:23 rue_shop2 its the smallest I think I can make with what I know and the parts I can get
15:30 rue_shop2 huh, I seem to have misplaced a verry large box of wheels
15:57 MrCurious go big or go home?
16:06 rue_house "bovine went extinct 3 years ago, we been using dogs on lots of fats and steroids since"
16:09 Loshki rue_house: soylent gold is made from labradors...
16:10 GargantuaSauce https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWIYT1uoEXw
16:10 MrCurious i loves me some good properly aged soylent green
16:25 uirrelCZECH is unh
16:25 SquirrelCZECH usually
16:25 SquirrelCZECH when I posted pic of my creation
16:25 SquirrelCZECH poeple were like: you can improve that and that and that
16:25 SquirrelCZECH now... "nice!" is everything
16:25 SquirrelCZECH :/
16:26 SquirrelCZECH http://squirrel.veverak.org/photo/IMG_1764.jpg
16:26 SquirrelCZECH maybe someone will have some idea :D
16:27 GargantuaSauce what's the enclosure for?
16:27 SquirrelCZECH isolation
16:27 SquirrelCZECH improves print quality
16:28 SquirrelCZECH add heating fan and it's even better
16:28 SquirrelCZECH mine started to create sparks after 4 hours
16:28 SquirrelCZECH I suppose it's not mad for 4 hours long run in 42C :)
16:29 Tom_itx no ventilation?
16:29 Tom_itx could be a problem
16:29 SquirrelCZECH why you think?
16:29 SquirrelCZECH well, I want to install one
16:29 Tom_itx heat
16:29 SquirrelCZECH protection if it goeso ver 60C
16:29 SquirrelCZECH *55
16:30 SquirrelCZECH Tom_itx: reprap itself
16:30 SquirrelCZECH made it from 26C to 28C
16:30 SquirrelCZECH nothing to worry about
16:30 SquirrelCZECH :)
16:30 SquirrelCZECH fan I found made it to 42C but not usable
16:30 uirrelCZECH have to find something that will be able to make it
16:32 SquirrelCZECH theory is, that for 3d printing, printing in the right temperature is sort of "the key"
16:32 MrCurious wonder if anyone has experimented with operating a 3d printer with theprint head and surface imersed in water or mineral oil
16:33 GargantuaSauce that sounds like it would completely preclude adhesion
16:33 GargantuaSauce because the filament would be totally frozen as soon as it leaves the nozzle
16:34 MrCurious unless the fluid was 5 deg below melt point of extrusion?
16:34 MrCurious ok, yeah, bad idea
16:34 SquirrelCZECH hmm
16:34 SquirrelCZECH I supose air is good enough for this
16:34 SquirrelCZECH literally making "own" for 3d printing
16:35 MrCurious i prefer store boought air
16:35 SquirrelCZECH :D :D
16:36 SquirrelCZECH hmm
16:36 uirrelCZECH have to put hte material in
16:36 SquirrelCZECH *fillament
16:37 MrCurious crazy idea... what could be done with CNC control, and crazy string (like in party cans)
16:39 MrCurious suppose that could be fun to have installed on a hexapod....
16:39 SquirrelCZECH hmm
16:40 SquirrelCZECH 500W hot air gun
16:40 SquirrelCZECH nah
16:40 uirrelCZECH need something control frie
16:40 SquirrelCZECH *arduino control friendly
16:40 MrCurious SquirrelCZECH: you are trying to maintain a temp inside of a closed space?
16:40 SquirrelCZECH yep
16:40 MrCurious are there not pets that require just such environments
16:40 SquirrelCZECH well
16:40 SquirrelCZECH that pet is called reprap
16:40 SquirrelCZECH :)
16:41 MrCurious perhaps their mass produced temp control systems could be used by u
16:41 MrCurious what is your target temp?
16:41 SquirrelCZECH hmm
16:41 SquirrelCZECH MrCurious: I suppose 50C would be nice
16:42 MrCurious http://www.petco.com/N_27_4294956674/Reptile-Terrarium-Humidity-Control.aspx
16:43 SquirrelCZECH well
16:43 SquirrelCZECH I tried to use Hairdryer
16:43 SquirrelCZECH but they are not designed for long runs usually
16:43 MrCurious so you are blowing hot air in nonstop, while letting it escape
16:43 SquirrelCZECH what?
16:43 SquirrelCZECH http://squirrel.veverak.org/photo/IMG_1764.jpg
16:43 SquirrelCZECH it doesn't escape
16:43 SquirrelCZECH (the air)
16:44 SquirrelCZECH hairdryer was inside
16:44 MrCurious seems like that would hit a crazy hot temp
16:44 SquirrelCZECH 42C
16:44 SquirrelCZECH it's old hairdryer
16:44 SquirrelCZECH guess is it's got 200W
16:44 SquirrelCZECH it's pretty silent compared to "new ones" :)
16:45 SquirrelCZECH I suppose it got over 10 years
16:46 MrCurious switch to PLA from ABS? :P
16:46 SquirrelCZECH what?
16:46 uirrelCZECH never said he is usign
16:46 SquirrelCZECH oh, I never used it to be more ... precise :)
16:47 SquirrelCZECH I quess that for ABS 80C would be pretty nice
16:47 SquirrelCZECH but that's not practical and can destroy the motors of reprap
16:47 SquirrelCZECH 50C is still improvement :)
16:51 SquirrelCZECH I am actually thinking about using old 80mm fan
16:51 SquirrelCZECH and put some resitant wire over it
17:20 cambazz hello, has anyone had a http://www.makeblock.cc/starter-robot-kit-blue-no-electronics/
17:20 cambazz I wonder if those tracks (they are in little pieces) will work as well as a single piece
19:14 MrCurious it looks like the tracks appear 2x in the photo. once assembled, and once disassembled as parts and pins below the assembled
23:09 Oracle989 I hate other people's code...
23:10 Oracle989 I'm increasingly coming to think this will be much easier if I do it myself. Problem being I have no idea what I'm doing.
23:10 Loshki Oracle989: the only thing I hate more than my own code is everyone elses...
23:11 Oracle989 Loshki: I hate code in general, in particular the act of making it. What I hate more is trying to figure out how someone else made theirs so I can hack it apart and use bits of it.
23:11 Oracle989 So I pretty much hate my life this evening.
23:12 Loshki Oracle989: I feel that way about hardware. Nasty stuff with sharp edges that you can't change just only an editor.
23:12 Oracle989 I love hardware.
23:12 Oracle989 Physical things I can tinker with, hook up to a power supply to find out if it works.
23:13 Loshki I need to find someone locally who loves hardware & hates software. We'd be a great team..
23:13 Oracle989 Where's local?
23:13 Loshki San Francisco. There's a hacker space, I just haven't been yet...
23:13 Oracle989 Oh sweet, not far from me.
23:13 Oracle989 Just 2800 miles.
23:14 Loshki Oracle989: see, if it was all software, that 2800 miles wouldn't even matter...
23:14 Oracle989 Want a Fun Software Project (TM)?
23:15 Loshki Prolly not, but talk about it anyway...
23:17 Oracle989 I'm pretty sure this really isn't that hard, and I'm just whining. I've got a little Arduino-controlled robot carrying a water gun, need to set up PWM to tell the drivetrain how to move, a basic on-off to the pin for the water gun's pump, and it needs to get its commands over a WiFly I've got stuck onto it.
23:17 Oracle989 I'm just deperately clinging to premade snippets of code because every time I try to make an Arduino do something, it doesn't do anything close to what I thought I told it to do.
23:18 Oracle989 And the design I've based it off of has a PHP web interface to make it easier to operate, which would all be wonderful if his motor controller worked at all like mine, and if I knew even basic PHP to cut up his interface and have one suitable for my purposes.
23:42 Loshki I think it's ambitious for someone who isn't a softie by nature. Which means it'll take longer than you want it to. I've also taken other people's code & had it work, then not work, then work again, for reasons I never really found out. No-one ever seems to check the return codes on anything, and if you look, you see half the functions don't even return status properly anyway. Where did your design come from?
23:44 Oracle989 An instructable
23:44 Oracle989 http://www.instructables.com/id/Tankbot-Internet-Controlled-Tank-Robot
23:45 Loshki I think your basic strategy, take a working system & pervert it for your needs, is a good one. But you'll have to learn a bit of PHP I think, too.
23:45 Oracle989 I might just see if I can figure out how to telnet in and control it over command line for now.
23:46 Oracle989 It seems easier, plus I get to feel like a movie hacker because I have a terminal open
23:50 Loshki That's a good approach. Layered. So are you hacking his source code?
23:53 Oracle989 Yeah, I'm trying to back out how his motor driver worked so I can beat my square peg of a motor driver into the round hole he's coded
23:55 Loshki Do you have separate code for your motor driver, or are you writing that part?
23:55 Oracle989 I have sample code for mine that makes it drive in a circle.
23:55 Oracle989 Which I also have to deconstruct to figure out how to tell it to operate.
23:56 Oracle989 But I think I can get that figured out.
23:57 Loshki Interesting. Can you pastebin the sample code that goes in a circle?
23:58 Oracle989 http://bildr.org/2012/04/tb6612fng-arduino/ It's at the bottom of the page here
