00:31 Jak_o_Shadows Civil and structural both work with concrete, so boring
00:32 MrCurious more to the point, concrete, and additions to it...
00:32 MrCurious rebar, mesh weive, concrete mix
00:34 fghfghjfg theres more to it then that and concrete can be cool some times
00:35 fghfghjfg I am talking about the skill sets , and knowledge bases that one would have over the other I would say each would overlap alot say 90%
00:36 fghfghjfg leaving small amount of training time in the transition
00:36 MrCurious what do you want to do when you grow up, or are you already grown up and trained?
00:38 fghfghjfg why does that matter do you have the answer or not
00:41 fghfghjfg Well I probably am correct in saying they are pretty much the same in skill sets just one may have been more exprienced on a particular structure like a bridge where the other person is more exprienced with dams
00:43 MrCurious well, if you are > 22. you are trained. if you are 18 - 22, not trained able to accept training
00:43 MrCurious it defines the drive factor
01:20 fghfghjfg plus concrete is cool when you start getting into the kilns
01:23 fghfghjfg I guess I will never know my answer to the civil and structural
02:25 mrdata kilns? concrete?? cool?????
02:25 mrdata hot, more likely
17:18 MrCurious everyone must be off making robots
18:07 MrCurious woo hoo. new saw is only slightly off on 90 deg cuts with zero tuning out of the box
20:57 mrdata MrCurious, mine is a drink pouring robot
20:58 MrCurious sounds useful
20:58 MrCurious do you require encouragement from robots to drink?
20:58 MrCurious :)
21:10 mrdata :)
21:10 mrdata i should pick up some good/cheap solid-state relays
21:11 mrdata i'm going to need PID control for this bread box
21:12 MrCurious "drink more. you are not drinking fast enough. can i get you something with an umbrella?"
21:12 mrdata (my old toaster oven is becoming an incubation chamber)
21:14 mrdata anyone here know a good, inexpensive, reliable SSR?
21:14 Hyratel mrdata, constraints?
21:15 mrdata oh, up to 2 kW, to be controlled with low power TTL, operating on north american 120VAC power i guess
21:16 Hyratel mmm
21:17 Hyratel US Mains 1ph, 20A?
21:17 mrdata sure
21:17 mrdata does that make sense?
21:17 Hyratel yep
21:17 Hyratel seems like a pretty common set of params
21:18 mrdata yeah
21:19 Hyratel FET or Thyristor (DC or AC?
21:20 mrdata the SSR i think has three things: opto-isolation, zero-crossing, and triac
21:21 mrdata i like those
21:21 Hyratel answer the queeeeestion\
21:22 Hyratel DC or AC supply/load
21:25 mrdata HV supply and load are AC
21:25 mrdata triac is AC
21:26 mrdata http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRIAC
21:26 Hyratel if you'd just said "AC" it would have made my filtering quicker
21:26 Hyratel I know what Triacs are
21:26 mrdata sorry
21:27 Hyratel what kind of terminals? board mount or screwpost/wire screwwq
21:28 mrdata i'm expecting screwpost is more likely? which is okay
21:29 mrdata if board mount is cheaper, though i'd like to know
21:37 Hyratel getting closer http://www.amazon.com/Input-3-32V-Output-Mount-Solid/dp/B008MU27WE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1405822737&sr=8-3&keywords=20A+200v+ssr
21:40 Hyratel http://www.amazon.com/Soild-SSR-20-3-32VDC-24-380VAC-Single/dp/B009WG2L5U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1405822897&sr=8-2&keywords=20A+ssr
21:40 Hyratel aha
21:40 Hyratel mrdata,
21:40 mrdata checking...
21:42 Jak_o_Shadows rue_house: On your robot arms, the ones where you quite rightly don't have the whole arm hanging off the shaft of a motor, do you use slew bearings at the bottom? Or just thrust/radial bearings that do a bit of both?/
22:12 Hyratel weird. undervoltage event this morning at 4:30 AM, logged 5 sec duration
22:18 GargantuaSauce were you under the impression that mains provides a nice stable voltage?
22:18 Hyratel nope
22:18 GargantuaSauce then why's it weird
22:18 Hyratel but this is the only UV event that it's triggered on in the entire logging history
22:19 Hyratel I've had line noise 4 times, 8 blackouts and 1 UV
22:42 MrCurious hell yeah. delta pullys mounted
22:42 Hyratel YELL HEAH
22:54 MrCurious belt cut!
22:55 MrCurious suppose if i could locate some lovely 4 conductor wire segments i could wire up th stepper
23:36 MrCurious https://www.dropbox.com/s/i2nhmpjjemgjju4/2014-07-19%2017.02.10.jpg
23:37 MrCurious shame marlin doesnt run on the uno
