03:04 deshipu MrCurious: 6 arm delta?
03:07 MrCurious no 3... top and bottom
08:12 bindigoat http://www.scribd.com/doc/233292705/Transform-the-planet-into-a-Death-Star
09:17 rue_mohr2 its ok, in about 200 years we have almost destroyed the planet anyhow
09:18 rue_mohr2 with the current track record there is no way to make it 1.1 billion years
09:18 rue_mohr2 besides, any remaining humanity would be obliterated in the y10k bugs
09:25 robotustra rue_mohr2: I think ppl will not survive till that time
09:34 rue_mohr2 hmm
09:35 rue_mohr2 so i got a machine togethor with avrdude 6.1 that can program the $3 mega328p boards from china
09:40 robotustra nice
09:40 robotustra what chip?
09:40 rue_mohr2 ...
09:40 robotustra avr?
09:40 rue_mohr2 usually the mega328p is an avr, yes
09:40 robotustra ah, sorry sleeping
09:41 robotustra 328p
09:41 e_mohr2
09:43 rue_mohr2 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/131141189364
09:43 rue_mohr2 ises 6 pin isp
09:43 rue_mohr2 uses
14:51 Skwint If I have 3 robots how could I arrange for them to detect coming into contact with each other, and determining which robot they just came into contact with?
14:54 Tom_garage use multicolored wet paint
14:54 Tom_garage it will be obvious
14:56 Skwint heh
14:56 Skwint only if they have cameras on :p
14:57 Skwint so far I've thought of vertically arrange wires on target areas, and horizontally arranged on sensor areas
14:58 Tom_itx when contact is made have the bot send out a tone. 3 different tones
14:59 Skwint that's an idea ... I was planning on having them all connected to wifi I could have them report an ID to a server quite happily
15:00 Skwint "I am robot 17 I just hit someone" "I am robot 13 I just got hit"
15:00 Skwint but they will also collide with walls, and a robot hitting a wall at the same time as another robot being hit by a wall (in a manner of speaking) would give a false positive
15:01 Tom_itx how will you determine the agressor?
15:01 Tom_itx if they both got hit
15:02 Tom_itx you could also use colored thermite
15:02 Skwint by separating the aggresive areas from the taret areas, but simply knowing which two contacted would be sufficient
15:02 Tom_itx that would make a nice colored flash to determine which got hit
15:03 Tom_itx sry, the idea side of the brain isn't here today
15:04 Skwint no worries :)
15:04 Skwint my own mind was going along each robot continually trying to pass a PWM signal out
15:04 Skwint and the aggressor closing the connection in some way
15:05 Skwint but then coming up with a vaguely reliable way of closing the connection was problematic
15:32 f00bar80 just seeking any sugestions >>> on how to Teach robotics for 4-Year-Old kids ?
15:47 f00bar80 ppl any comment ?
15:50 jxv lego mindstorms
15:52 f00bar80 jxv, i know but it's 10+ years :) any my son is reaching 4 years this week
15:53 f00bar80 and*
15:53 f00bar80 jxv, what do you think about RoboMind
15:54 jxv hmm, interesting. never seen it before.
15:55 jxv Maybe, I don't often deal with children, so you should use your best judgement.
15:55 billmania f00bar80: I'm curious. Can you elaborate on "Teach robotics for 4-Year-Old kids"?
15:55 jxv Although, I think visual programming will be more helpful than text.
15:56 billmania What do you expect them to learn?
15:57 jxv I've seen kindergarters use lego mindstorms w/ his parents' help.
16:01 f00bar80 billmania, you as the professionals here can advice ..
16:03 billmania Does your 4 year old have a mechanical aptitude?
16:04 billmania Does he/she seem inclined to put series of instructions together?
16:04 billmania How does he currently use a computer and what kinds of other mechanical toys/games?
16:09 f00bar80 billmania, he used to play with Meccano ( the metal one ) , he likes watching cars and driving videos on youtube, used to show him how LEGO gearbox works as well playing with some bluetooth cars i built for him , i used to let him observe the infrared connection and play with a robot arm constructed with arduino ( let him move the arm around to grap some objects and moving it around ) ..
16:09 f00bar80 that's it
16:12 billmania Have you looked at http://www.modrobotics.com/?
16:12 billmania I don't have any experience with them myself, but I like their approach.
16:13 billmania I would also suggest, since you have Arduino experience, continue to involve him with your work and see what interests him. Then you'll meet two objectives - more time with your child and finding an interest to share.
16:16 f00bar80 billmania, it's not an option this Moss, much expensive as of what you'll get out from it
16:17 billmania Then I suggest the Arduino route. There are also things like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scratch_%28programming_language%29
16:20 f00bar80 billmania, RoboMind , found it .. reasoanble start ..
17:35 deshipu I just discovered that Mech Warfare is a thing
17:43 MrCurious i imagine if you have to pay for your own mech, and dont have a sponsor, it could be a painful affair to lose
17:54 DanFrederiksen then don't lose
18:17 MrCurious what if the highly sponsored ones work out that trick?
18:17 MrCurious if i spenda year making a bot.... i am not going to be happy to see it break in minutes
19:11 MrCurious starting to look delta-ish https://www.dropbox.com/s/eo81fl7zs255za4/2014-07-11%2016.37.46.jpg
19:12 Jak_o_Shadows Nice.
19:12 Jak_o_Shadows I bought the steppers, rods, and plastic bits yesterday
19:12 MrCurious next step... equilateral triangle fabrication
19:13 MrCurious got nice timing belt, pullys steppers that all match for it too
19:13 Jak_o_Shadows Delt'a are inherently cool
19:14 MrCurious after redesigning my cnc to use supported vs unsupported rods, i had a bunch of leftover kit
19:14 MrCurious so delta seemed a no brainer
19:14 Jak_o_Shadows I like them because the mechanics seem simpler, even if the programming is harder
19:15 MrCurious havent really put thought to the pprogramming bit
19:15 MrCurious the building is more fun
19:15 Jak_o_Shadows I presume that somebody has already done it :P
19:15 MrCurious and since i am a programmer, i should be very qualified to google someone elses work and make use of it
19:16 MrCurious exactly
19:16 MrCurious hmmm in te summer my garage runs around 90F.... might be ideal for 3d printing
19:16 MrCurious like having a heated chamber printer
19:16 MrCurious only... bigger
19:17 Jak_o_Shadows haha
19:45 MrCurious russians.... http://www.theverge.com/2014/7/11/5886887/aes-f-liminal-space-trilogy-interview
19:47 Skwint arteeests
19:48 MrCurious well. my nightmare dispensor has been refilled
19:53 rue_mohr2 ok
19:53 rue_mohr2 end of another work week
19:53 MrCurious ROBOT TIME!
20:05 Curious looks at rue_m
20:36 rue_mohr2 ...
20:36 rue_mohr2 robot?
20:46 MrCurious so i have a pair of supported 13" 20mm rods
20:46 MrCurious and bearings
20:46 MrCurious been pondering what they would be good for, and the best i can come up with is making a 9" verticle lift barel for a arm
20:47 MrCurious (spare)
20:49 Jak_o_Shadows You know when you're making a graph, and you've go tit plotting
20:49 Jak_o_Shadows and then you spend the next 45 minutes making it look readable?
20:50 rue_mohr2 heh
20:50 MrCurious you have a tit plotting grapher? will you share the source code?
21:24 Hyratel1 things I idslike: sonic welds
21:25 Skwint oh gods, yes. Especially sonic tit welds. You think you are just plotting a nice tit graph and suddenly *boom* their stuck together!
21:26 Hyratel1 whu
21:42 Tom_itx MrCurious, lookin good
