00:50 rue_more life
09:19 rue_more my old tracked robot is having battery issues after like 9 years of running on old cell phone batteries
11:37 GuShH rue_more: http://www.globalspec.com/events/eventdetails?eventid=586 hmm
11:39 MrCurious if life ever has you feeling overwhelmed by your problems, be happy you dont have other peoples problems... http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/american-student-ends-trapped-giant-vagina-sculpture-n138311
12:26 GuShH rue_more: so I'm reading more on common steel grades and I come to realize 1010 is basically iron, not steel -- by definition
12:27 password2 well iron is iron with additives
12:27 password2 pure iron is steel
12:27 password2 :P
12:27 password2 its weird
12:28 password2 i geuss people thought that the iron they had and the iron on the periodic table was the same , whilst it was not and screwed up the naming convention
12:31 GuShH actually given the low carbon content 1010 is not strictly a steel
12:32 password2 i don't know 1010 :P , was just randomly ranting
12:32 GuShH and that's the reason every supplier around here calls it "iron" (I thought it sounded odd so I had to keep looking it up to realize it's technically an iron more than a steel)
12:32 GuShH well 1010 is part of the SAE standard
12:32 GuShH not sure what the AISI equivalent is
12:33 GuShH so they claim it can't be tempered, but I've noticed it does harden -somewhat-
12:34 GuShH it just doesn't have enough carbon content to harden properly
12:34 GuShH in theory you call it steel when it contains at least 0.30% of carbon, 1010 has 0.10% average.
12:34 Hyratel http://kerbaldevteam.tumblr.com/post/89669253369/grab-kerbal-space-program-on-the-steam-summer-sale
12:35 GuShH otoh it behaves nothing like most cast iron would, it's somewhere in the middle of the BUTTER zone.
12:35 GuShH So called steel by most, not technically a steel, closest to an iron, but not really iron. Hum.
12:36 GuShH No wonder it machines like shit (machinability is said to be 55%)
12:37 GuShH But also by definition it's already tempered otherwise it wouldn't be a steel
12:37 password2 Hyratel, that games is awesome
12:37 GuShH Because carbon was added to the iron
12:37 ShH 's mind blow
12:38 password2 what about low carbon steels?
13:44 GuShH password2: what about em, that's technically 1010
13:44 GuShH a low carbon shitty steel alloy
13:48 password2 oh
13:50 password2 as i said , my metallurgy knowledge is lacking
13:52 GuShH password2: I'm not expert if anything I'd like for one to clarify this :(
21:42 rue_shop2 someone say my name?
21:43 MjrTom rue_mohr
21:43 rue_shop2 I dont know the steel grade definitions
21:43 rue_shop2 test\
21:43 rue_shop2 <- thats not MY name
21:44 Tom_itx i know your name
21:44 Tom_itx what about steel grade definitions?
21:44 rue_shop2 <GuShH> rue_more: so I'm reading more on common steel grades and I come to realize 1010 is basically iron, not steel -- by definition
21:45 Tom_itx http://www.astm.org/Standards/steel-standards.html
21:46 Tom_itx i'd say that about covers it
21:46 rue_shop2 tom, did you re-insulate the back wall of your oven?
21:47 Tom_itx umm
21:47 Tom_itx i know i did the sides
21:47 Tom_itx i don't remember about the back
21:48 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/toaster_oven/insul2.jpg
21:48 Tom_itx looks like just the sides and top
21:48 Tom_itx then added that extra tin around it
21:48 Tom_itx mostly to hold it in place
21:51 Tom_itx http://www.astm.org/Standards/A1010.htm
21:51 Tom_itx too bad they wanna sell it to ya
21:59 Tom_itx http://www.timken.com/EN-US/products/Steel/productlist/Pages/GradesofSteel.aspx
22:01 Tom_itx http://timkensteel.com/what-we-know/practical-data-for-metallurgists
22:01 Tom_itx you can download that handbook
22:04 Tom_itx http://www.outokumpu.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/Outokumpu-steel-grades-properties-global-standards.pdf
22:05 orlock oh awesome
22:05 lock downl
22:06 orlock Tom_itx: At my motherss house, theres a copy (reprint, not sure how old) of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_re_metallica
22:07 e_shop2 reshapes the toaster
22:07 orlock Guessing its a copy of the 1912 translation by herbert Hoover
22:10 Tom_itx last one looks pretty complete too
22:20 lock wonders if the trampoline has blown
22:22 rue_shop2 at what point of rebuilding every part of a toaster over would it have been a suggestion to make one from scratch?
22:36 rue_shop2 tom, do you back or broil your pcb's?
22:37 rue_shop2 tom, do you bake or broil your pcb's?
22:37 rue_shop2 Tom_itx,
22:37 rue_shop2 ?
22:56 robotustra_ http://postimg.org/image/vhv7hg2z5/
23:03 rue_shop2 didyou make a turntable reprap?
23:41 rue_shop2 hard to not complexify a project to death
23:43 rue_shop2 I could recitfy the ac and switch it with a mosfet
23:44 rue_shop2 via an opto isolator
23:44 rue_shop2 which would accept pwm
23:44 rue_shop2 hmm
23:44 rue_shop2 Tom_itx, did you add a forced cooler?
