00:01 rue_more it uses all that stuff
00:02 rue_more drat, bedtime
00:09 DagoRed if you guys want help with ARM stuff in the future, please let me know
00:10 DagoRed I've been busy with an ARM based distro.
00:11 rue_more hmm
00:11 rue_more lots of arm stuff i could do but i casnt get the build env happening

08:21 JCM83 Alright dudes I've got a little bite of some money to put into my DIY high school robotics program. Like $500-$1000. I have a bunch of servos and little cars, and a bunch of sensors and arduinos and microcontrollers. I'm thinking about neat robot chassis, like a spider, motor plate to power it, and servos to power it. I'm also thinking about all these cool easy to use arduino shields. And motor drivers. And speaker drivers so I can make an oscilloscope.
08:21 JCM83 And I'm wondering about how to get more power to my little robots, which are currently kind of slow. And a robot hand.
08:21 JCM83 Recommend me things.
08:26 robopal I don't know
08:27 JCM83 ha
08:28 robopal honestly, I mean, with all these companies making boards and kits and stuff, I have lost track
08:29 robopal probably it is best to go in reverse order, decide a project and then research what components you need to accomplish that
08:40 JCM83 robopal - I agree, but unfortunately that's not an option to me. What i'm doing is giving the students a wide range of options for their projects, so I don't know the project up front.
08:40 JCM83 So I'm looking for basically what are the guts for a series of different project types
08:41 JCM83 I have a bunch of arduinos, motors, servos, and sensors
08:41 JCM83 power supply units still confuse me
09:25 rue_more line following robtos
09:25 rue_more setup a tracka nd have a competition

13:18 Tom_itx http://www.electronicproducts.com/Computer_Peripherals/Communication_Peripherals/Architect_designs_underwater_spaceship_to_explore_the_ocean_floors.aspx
13:18 password2 its site like that that promote ad blocker
13:20 Tom_itx http://www.electronicproducts.com/Power_Products/Batteries_and_Fuel_Cells/Tesla_Motors_opens_up_its_electric_car_patents_for_public_use.aspx#.U6HT43Y_HrQ
13:20 Carp yea, but the bills gotta get paid somehow. and we got ad blocker in the meanwhile :D
13:21 password2 jip
13:23 Carp that's pretty cool about Tesla, I was wondering about the secrecy behind the batteries myself.
13:25 password2 i saw that
13:26 password2 still , how much does a tesla cost?
13:28 DagoRed .title
13:28 makepi DagoRed: Tesla Motors opens up its electric car patents for public use - Electronic Products
13:28 MrCurious i thought it was just the charging patents
13:28 MrCurious so they could standardize around their system
13:35 Carp yea, it was the charging systems tbh. they incorporate that circuit in the battery, using plain jane lithions
13:35 Carp think last i read it was just tons of 18640's
13:37 Carp all the switching to charge all those little batteries, then switch them back just wracks my brain. seems to be more of a pain than anything, but they made it work
13:38 password2 18650 , ouch
13:38 Carp ^ yea..
13:38 password2 yeah i think a larger format like the D-cell sized li-ion one might be much better , whatever they are called
13:40 Carp it's more of, what was widely available for bottom dollar when they went into development imo
13:44 Hyratel1 password2, actually smaller diameter means less wasted volume because of circle packing
13:45 password2 yes and no
13:46 password2 smaller dia is more loss in cell fabrication
13:46 Hyratel1 more volume % per cell is structure?
13:47 Hyratel1 I'd need to see an intercept graph between cell diameter and capacity factoring that in
13:47 password2 me too
13:47 Carp read on /r/science the other day about flexible li-ions.. looks like.. rubber snot xD
13:48 password2 yeah 0.5 mm thickness , discover it a few week ago
13:49 Carp very interesting stuff. no clue on practicality yet, but gotta love new toys
13:49 password2 i wish 32600 cells were more common
13:51 Carp won't be too long. by the time they're widely available, we'll be drooling on some new battery.. such is life
13:51 password2 capacity of 3ah-6ah according to wikipedia
13:52 Carp holy cow.
13:52 Carp that's in a d-cell size class?
13:52 password2 yes 32mm dia x 61.9mm length
13:53 Carp boom.. mind blown. hate my 18650's now.
13:53 Carp xD
13:53 password2 hehe
13:54 password2 my ups battery is dead
13:54 Carp same here..
13:54 password2 would be interesting to put in li-ion instead
13:54 Carp found out the hard way, it hasn't been giving me any alert either
13:55 password2 i got mine yesterday , for free
13:55 password2 has been sitting for 8 months
13:56 password2 i have also been thinking of adding solar panel to it:P
13:56 Carp that's a very good idea
13:57 Carp i've been eyeballing the 'scratch and dent' solar cells on ebay.
13:57 password2 dx.com actually have 32600 cells http://www.dx.com/p/ultrafire-brc-32600-3-0v-4000mah-li-ion-batteries-pair-123729
13:58 password2 scratch dent?
13:58 password2 like rejects?
13:58 Carp corners chipped
13:58 Carp not exactly perfect
13:58 password2 ah
13:58 password2 well if the cells aint broke , go for it i would say
13:58 Carp may need trimmed, but the savings makes it worth the output
13:59 Carp the 18650's i got on ebay i can't complain about. same brand UltraFire. I think they're a tad over rated though
14:00 Carp rated at 5300mAh
14:00 Carp read a lot of complaints online after buying, but they beat the pants off my lead acid cell that's 4 times the weight and size
14:00 password2 dx.com seems like a good place to order batteries , many of them have reviews where people actually measured the rating
14:02 Carp i was just thinking about testing, they're charged up, and I wanted to test on these motors I just got. dogs go insane with the gear whine though. don't know how they're going to react after it starts actually rolling around.
14:03 Carp err, my dogs i meant
14:47 Loshki My cat's scared of the roomba, but *terrified* of the neato...
16:03 Hyratel1 IT DRIVES :D :D :D :D I'm refurbishing a Power Wheels Jeep, put the body uppers onto the chassis, mounted the wheels and axles, and gave it power! I was able to ride it around the yard, and I live on a sleepy street so I was able to get it up to speed :D http://imgur.com/Rr2hE9C,PFxZAf2
16:08 billmania Hyratel1: You need to recruit a neighborhood youngster as your Test Driver, or to get a bigger ride. :)
16:39 Skwint or get two and use them as rollerskates
