01:00 GuShH rue_shop2: dolly for what?
02:16 rue_shop2 GuShH,
02:17 rue_shop2 http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Heavy-Duty-Hand-Truck-/271478783595
02:26 GuShH rue_shop2: mine is so old it uses bushings.
02:26 GuShH I've picked up the lathe crate with it, among other stuff
02:26 GuShH it has been serviced though (several welds were bust originally)
02:27 GuShH it's one of those things you can't destroy even if you try to.
02:28 rue_more :)
02:28 rue_more I'v come across some made of heavy guage pipe, its impossable to not notice the difference
02:28 GuShH pretty thick steel on this one, but you could feel it flexing with the lathe
02:28 GuShH I've seen the new ones... they look flimsy
02:28 GuShH probably not rated for that kind of stuff.
02:29 rue_more I got togethor 6 buddies to help move the lathe
02:29 GuShH I got together the cart and myself.
02:29 rue_more got it in the shop on a hospital bed frame, moved it into place from there
02:29 GuShH Won't lie, it wasn't easy.
02:30 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/lathe/p1040776.jpg
02:30 GuShH rue_more: can you imagine moving a knee mill???
02:30 rue_more forklift!
02:30 GuShH who has one! not me.
02:30 rue_more I jacked the lathe up, one end/brick at a time
02:30 rue_more then swung the tailstock over, and bolted it to the table, then the headstock
02:31 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/lathe/p1040777.jpg
02:31 GuShH I didn't take the headstock off mine, but everything else was gone
02:31 rue_more I meant by end, I didn't take it apart
02:31 GuShH I did. how else could one person move and lift it
02:31 rue_more after getting on the table I realized I misdrilled the table tho
02:31 rue_more left it
02:32 GuShH without fancy equipment
02:32 rue_more its sitting 3 inches back from where I wanted it
02:32 GuShH oh
02:32 GuShH I use the swarf tray as my template
02:32 GuShH used*
02:32 GuShH perfect alignment, but I oversized the holes for a good wiggle factor.
02:32 rue_more yea, I didn't have one, and they couldn't give me numbers
02:32 GuShH you have it, that tiny tray
02:33 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/lathe/p1040778.jpg
02:33 rue_more see, its back like 3 inches
02:33 GuShH or you made it beforehand?
02:33 rue_more yea, I missed the holes
02:33 rue_more prettymuch
02:33 GuShH who cares
02:33 rue_more by the time ai realized I wasn't into correcting it
02:34 GuShH I scraped the compound today... but I couldn't get good results, decided to leave it for some other day.
02:34 rue_more er its the head skirt I was meaning to centre on
02:34 rue_more ?
02:34 rue_more is it out?
02:34 GuShH took it apart for cleanup, removed all parts
02:34 GuShH the underside of the toolholder block is all marred
02:35 GuShH maybe from chips getting under it, somehow
02:35 rue_more chips get under mine
02:35 GuShH looks like it's 20 years old... but it's not.
02:35 GuShH I hate the toolpost.
02:35 rue_more I'm frusteated I cant get the cross slide with T slots
02:35 GuShH when I get the mill that's one of the first serious projects, a quick change.
02:35 rue_more that would be nice
02:35 GuShH hmm not tall enough to machine some?
02:36 rue_more the toolpost is fixed position forward//back
02:36 rue_more if I have to cut something reverse I can barely set it back far enough
02:36 GuShH mine has the length wise T slots, but none across like some bigger old lathes had
02:36 GuShH although you can only set the toolpost on 2 places
02:37 GuShH it has a little alignment "pin"
02:37 GuShH more like a stub.
02:37 GuShH and there are holes for the preset positions.
02:37 GuShH not the best design at all.
02:37 GuShH most of the mills also come from one or two factories.. but why are there so many variations?
02:38 GuShH the ZX45 comes in 10 flavours at least.
02:38 rue_more http://www.kingcanada.com/Products.htm?CD=116&ID=2369
02:38 rue_more if you get that page
02:38 rue_more zoom in, the cross slide has T slots, mine dosn't
02:38 GuShH bah they never man up to it, they say pictures are for illustrative purposes only
02:39 rue_more I aksed them for an upgrade kit and they said it wasn't made anymore
02:39 rue_more I kinda wonder if they had problems with the slots breaking off
02:39 GuShH 110?
02:39 rue_more between the dovetail and the T slot its pretty thin
02:39 GuShH saw a used mill with all the slots broken
02:39 rue_more yea, were 1xx volts out here
02:39 GuShH on the table
02:40 GuShH http://www.kingcanada.com/Products.htm?CD=238&ID=21450
02:40 rue_more because its only worth it if you buy one holder for each bit you use, its not worth it for me
02:40 GuShH that's why I think it's a milling project...
02:41 rue_more hmmm I can mill on the lathe
02:41 GuShH is the spindle bore really 1"
02:41 GuShH because I couldn't fit 1" on mine
02:41 rue_more need a project for that nice big new L bracket I made
02:41 rue_more I'v not measured
02:41 GuShH they lie on so many aspects.
02:42 GuShH it might be 1" OD haha
02:42 rue_more only one thing I couldn't fit in it, and it was about 1" too big
02:42 rue_more heh
02:42 GuShH I wanted to fit 1" alu rod but no luck.
02:42 GuShH it's not really a 1 inch bore.
02:42 ShH wishes for a bigger, manlier l
02:42 rue_more shouldnt be hard to make a bore
02:43 GuShH that's a whole new spindle, bearings, etc
02:43 rue_more it was that much of a miss?
02:43 GuShH I wonder if a camlock chuck can be added
02:43 rue_more then again, the spindle is m3 taper on mine
02:43 GuShH or if it makes sense at all on one of these lathes
02:43 GuShH yeah it says MT4 on that page
02:43 GuShH mine is 3...
02:44 rue_more oh, my sizes might be out
02:44 rue_more a buddy had a dead centre he gave me that fits
02:44 GuShH that's not much of a size indication
02:44 rue_more its pretty big and the headstock is the only thing it fits
02:44 GuShH you sound like that person I bought the chucks from, sent me the wrong arbor sizes.
02:44 GuShH I have an MT5 if you want it, could serve as a weapon
02:45 rue_more hmm
02:45 rue_more I'm gonna sleep
06:30 Kirp darknight, hi
10:27 rue_bed well, lots to do!
12:38 GuShH oh god
12:40 GuShH so this machinist supply store ... I was inquiring about the mill, in the meantime I thought I'd ask them for some blank MT2 arbors so I can turn the B12 taper myself, since they don't carry B12 stuff around here... to which they answer "blank arbors don't exist anywhere in the world"... so I send them a link to an ebay item to school them since my words aren't worth shit to them. So far no response. Dipshits, in person this wou
12:40 GuShH ld've ended in a heated discussion.
12:40 GuShH I hate it when idiots say something doesn't exist, just because they're entirely ignorant.
12:40 ShH fr
12:40 GuShH no way I'm buying anything from those retards.
12:40 Hyratel proper answer "I've never seen one"
12:41 GuShH proper answer would be "we don't carry those, sorry"
12:41 GuShH saying "IT DOESNT EXIST ANYWHERE" is bullshit.
12:41 GuShH first hit http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLANK-MT2-MORSE-TAPER-ARBOR-w-TANG-MACHINABLE-FOR-DRILL-MILL-LATHE-MORE-NEW-/291117648243
12:41 GuShH I'm trying to avoid customs and all the bureaucracy it involves here.
12:42 GuShH and yeah, a bit pricey.
12:43 GuShH next time I'll stick to more standard tapers than british stuff
12:44 GuShH hell a J33 arbor would also work as a blank, but these guys clearly don't know what they're doing or talking about, anyway... dead to me.
12:44 GuShH problem with a finished arbor is they're usually hardened.
12:45 GuShH so you risk possible deformation from annealing and then trying to harden / temper.
12:45 GuShH even if you quench vertically and take all precautions.
12:51 Carp i feel for you gushh. they can't respond due to ego and embarrassment now. at least you know what kind of people you're dealing with there.
14:29 MrCurious 13:1 nema 23 stepper reducer
14:29 MrCurious wife just said ok, get 3 more
14:29 Carp wow, i need to try that on my wife
14:30 Carp xD
14:30 MrCurious i know right
14:30 MrCurious and a deal at $45 ea
14:32 Carp very nice!
14:32 Carp i was looking at analog feedback motors a little while back at $99 each, and was told to get a second job.
16:56 rue_shop2 the ID of this bearing is NOT the right size...
16:59 rue_shop2 the bearing is 1mm small
16:59 rue_shop2 I needed 16x35
16:59 rue_shop2 china said that was a 6202
17:00 rue_shop2 ... it still says it
17:03 rue_shop2 must be varriants of 6202
17:03 rue_shop2 all mine are 35x15
17:07 rue_shop2 for what it would take for me to get that bearing out (the two of them) I should stick the shaft in the lathe and make it 15mm
17:13 rue_more http://www.intermodalics.eu/sites/www.intermodalics.eu/files/images/ur10-white-bg.intext400.jpg
17:13 rue_more I went overbaord
17:13 rue_more I got 10x 3" pvc T's for building something liek that
17:13 rue_more I notice now the size steps down every joint
17:26 rue_shop2 GuShH, 26.2mm throat
17:28 rue_shop2 GuShH, my motor is squeeking
17:28 rue_shop2 when I hand turn the chuck
17:29 GuShH rue_shop2: mine does as well it's the centrifugal switch "clutch"
17:29 GuShH it's annoying. to fix it I would have to remove the motor, the back cover, etc.
17:29 GuShH no access otherwise
17:29 GuShH I will eventually get a 3 phase 1 or 2 hp motor in there with a vfd
17:30 GuShH I just haven't been able to determine the right size, I want it as a direct drop-in, no modifications.
17:30 GuShH so shaft length and diameter, plus body / mount size have to match
17:30 GuShH and the timing pulley shaft wobbles a bit on mine now
17:30 GuShH it's been oiled regularly, but I guess the bushing was bored oversize or something funky happened
17:31 GuShH best to make a new shaft for it, like I did for the banjo gear
17:31 GuShH no problems ever since I replaced that part, a lot needs to be redone -properly-
17:31 GuShH your bearing problem... maybe it's metric vs imperial
17:32 GuShH that's a common one.
17:32 GuShH and yeah definetely mod it if you already got the bearings...
17:34 rue_shop2 tell me ifyou work out the frame size
17:35 GuShH ?
17:35 GuShH I put motorcycle chain oil on my gears today, but I don't notice any difference in noise levels
17:35 GuShH I think I'll go back to motoroil (squirt every now and then, or finish my oiler system....)
17:36 GuShH Need to figure out a way to make a small steel pan, but I don't have a tig welder and no brazing torch so... limited options.
17:38 GuShH see the belt cover... imagine a small tray on the bottom of it, to collect the excess oil from the system and send it back to the tank by gravity.. then a cheap motorcycle oil filter to the pump pickup, a T with a stopcock to regulate the flow (excess goes back to the tank) the rest is distributed through a manifold, kinda like a one shot oiler but continous drop, I just haven't figured out a way to cover the belts
17:38 GuShH as it stands, they already get oily even with minimum oiling....
17:38 ShH liked what he saw on some old turret lathes, with chain drive, all forced oil no flimsy belts in
17:39 GuShH not noisy at all, since the oil dampens it, but it's most likely less efficient that way
17:39 GuShH and you also have the issue of chain stretching as it wears down
17:39 GuShH but if I had to consider making something like a mill, I would seriously look into using a motorcycle gearbox and transmission.
17:39 Hyratel if you use a tensioner roller that's less of an issue
17:40 Hyratel or mass-tensioning
17:45 GuShH Hyratel: maybe, but it's just random ideas
17:46 GuShH I do think I'll have to upgrade the lathe in that regard sooner or later though
17:46 GuShH the OEM belts here cost 50 bucks a pop... nuts.
17:49 rue_shop2 ok I now have a hand truck with one vastly supperior wheel
17:51 GuShH 1 or 2?
17:57 rue_shop2 hahaha
17:57 rue_shop2 1 of 2 was upgraded
17:57 rue_shop2 anyhow
17:57 rue_shop2 I got hte steering pump off the bracket for the electic
17:57 rue_shop2 the bracket is 3x larger and 2x the mass of the pump
17:57 rue_shop2 tiny pump!
17:58 ShH hasn't seen the pump.... or the bra
18:21 rue_shop2 I had to cut a 35mm hole in a 12x7cm peice of aluminum yesterday, did it in the 4 jaw
18:21 rue_shop2 and the best part is that I didn't squish any fingers changing chucks!
18:24 Tom_itx they're not that big are they?
18:30 rue_shop2 more than enough to squish a finger good if caught off guard
18:31 Tom_itx i added those rules and it didn't help
18:31 MrCurious i cant remember th name of the bearing i need if i want to prevent non rotary movement on a shaft. i.e. prevent flexing the shaft out of normal
18:36 MrCurious ahhh thrust beaaring
18:37 Tom_itx i was gonna say that
18:39 MrCurious i was wrong, i think i need to trap the shaft between a pair of race bearings
18:49 Tom_itx rue_more, how can i read the mac address of my lan card?
18:49 GuShH MrCurious: or bushing and jamnut
18:50 GuShH ...or combination of needle bearing and thrust bearing
18:50 GuShH or.... so many options.
18:50 MrCurious i want to keep the shaft from getting beant by bearing weaght against its side
18:50 MrCurious bent
18:50 MrCurious and weight
18:50 Tom_itx beent
18:50 ShH bends MrCur
18:50 Tom_itx wait
18:51 MrCurious imagine a analog clock with a 200 lb weight hanging off the tip of the hour arm
18:51 GuShH you want to avoid flexing due to side load? thrust is for forward/backward motion/force
18:51 GuShH what is it for
18:51 MrCurious i dont want to snap the hour arm shaft off
18:51 MrCurious think hop joint
18:51 GuShH no I won't think about clocks.
18:51 MrCurious and think this... http://www.ebay.com/itm/110936104128?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT#shpCntId
18:52 GuShH just say what it's for
18:52 MrCurious arm joint
18:52 GuShH look the key fits so poorly they have to use a rubber band teheheeeee
18:52 MrCurious it stays in the slot
18:52 GuShH not if it needs a rubber band!
18:52 ShH chuc
18:52 MrCurious it has a rubber band, doesnt say it needs it
18:52 GuShH of course it's for transport.
18:53 GuShH just in case so it doesn't fall, heatshrink sleeve would also work.
19:01 MjrTom bust is it's middle name!
19:27 GuShH so the guy from the shop finally answered... he still claims nobody manufactures them and that "they sell any kind of crap on ebay but that's no representation of what's being manufactured in reality"
19:27 GuShH what the fuck
19:27 GuShH I want to punch the idiot a few times into reality.
19:56 Hyratel oooh, these $5 solar path lights use 600mAh AA NiMh (the supercheap lights used NiCd 150mAh 2/3AA)
19:56 Hyratel GuShH, wanna borrow my big clue by four?
19:59 ShH borrow
20:03 Hyratel g'dammet, where's my hotglue gun
20:03 GuShH somewhere.
20:03 GuShH actually I don't know where mine is... haven't used it in years
20:09 GuShH "Robot.Chicken.S07E08" so good.
