00:14 MrCurious i blew it all out with a fan. it most clean now
00:14 MrCurious only cold air coming out
00:14 MrCurious not a trace of heat on the box
00:14 Triffid_Hunter sure, but dust has some sort of grease in it which forms a surface on the heatsink and massively reduces its conductivity to air
00:15 orlock i use a cheap ultrasonic bath - but you need to get the heatsink off for it
00:15 orlock goddamn nagios pos
00:15 Triffid_Hunter yeah and if you take the sink off you have to clean the contact surfaces and regrease
00:15 Triffid_Hunter which frequently is more hassle than it's worth
00:25 rue_more MrCurious, maybe the heatsink compound dried up and the chip is overheating
00:26 rue_more seem lots of times they dont apply it right
00:26 MrCurious could be...
00:26 rue_more 3 or 4 1mm thick blobs of dried up compound dont help at all
00:26 MrCurious that is a good line of investigation
00:26 MrCurious will have to see what mac temp sensors are reporting
00:27 Triffid_Hunter usually they use phase change pads which are only good for one application
00:27 Triffid_Hunter once the interface is disturbed, it's completely useless
00:34 GargantuaSauce imacs make some pretty serious concessions when i comes to cooling
00:34 GargantuaSauce they sure sacrifice a lot to make it compact
00:43 MrCurious yeah
01:00 MrCurious going to have to reseat the keatsinks
01:34 MrCurious 44C on the cpu and northbridge
03:44 skilz Hi
03:44 GuShH rue_more: you can't do the same tasks on a turret mill, the universals are mostly meant for horizontal milling, taking deep passes at once.
03:45 GuShH reconfiguration is required for vertical milling, that's all.
03:47 GuShH the other part is a special head, but I don't know the name in English.
03:48 GuShH allows to perform some shaper tasks
03:54 GuShH as for the 4th axis, you need to do exactly the same with a more modern cnc mill
03:55 GuShH it's just that you would do the indexing by software
03:56 GuShH tool changing is the same, etc. unless you have a tool changer + charriot fully CNCed, which you won't unless you got an old surplus cnc machine, which takes up space, requires 3 phase, works on floppy drives and has a dead ferret inside.
03:59 GuShH even then and if fully restored, programming them is a nightmare, you'll most likely end up crashing your tools and stripping keys than come up with a useful part, setup takes time in any machine unless it's a specific task that can be carried away with jigs or magnetic bases, the former takes time to make/setup, so I don't see why an "older machine" would have any handicap over a newer china piece of shit
04:00 GuShH I think you got it backwards.
04:02 GuShH the newer crap is not as robust, requires more fiddling in fact.
04:02 GuShH and it's just made as cheap as it can possibly be made.
05:23 MjrTom how many light bulbs does it take to change a robot?
08:59 rue_more depends on the melting point of the robot
09:00 rue_more ok somewhere a fan is being louder than it should be
12:03 mahmoud is there any general purpose drone that runs PC/linux that is easy to use and yet powerful enough to make it autonomous and do image processing onboard?
12:07 thermoflux hello
12:14 mahmoud is there any general purpose drone that runs PC/linux that is easy to use and yet powerful enough to make it autonomous and do image processing onboard?
12:18 GuShH rue_more: you gotta see this chuck!
12:18 GuShH but first I wonder, should I try to make a hydraulic press, got any ideas on a temporary setup? to press the sleeves out and in on these chucks
12:19 GuShH I want to rebuild it
12:20 GuShH feels fine, but a bit gritty... I'd like to clean up the parts and derust / buff everything separately.. maybe replace the thrust bearing.
12:56 GuShH rue_more: http://gushh.net/tmp/dscn5407f.jpg ghetto packaging and all! already derusting the key with electrolysis...
12:58 GuShH key is a bit bent http://gushh.net/tmp/dscn5406f.jpg but nothing I can't fix
12:59 GuShH all the rust will be converted soon, a bit of a buff and it will look brand new, except for the dings.
13:01 GuShH a standard size I can pick up anywhere?
13:01 GuShH wtf
13:01 GuShH that was part of a pm, sorry.
13:20 f00bar80 rue_more, you there? wonder how after using bolts/screws i have to connect the servo?
13:20 GuShH key is looking nice after 10 minutes in the electrolyte, we'll see in 10 more. looks shiney already
13:31 thermoflux GuShH: what are you trying to do with the key?
13:33 GuShH thermoflux: straighten it after derusting
13:34 GuShH as for the chuck, I don't see how I can take it apart without a press.
13:36 thermoflux GuShH: good luck. I just saw the pic
13:49 GuShH thermoflux: I'll share pics once it's done :)
14:00 thermoflux GuShH: will do
14:13 GuShh_Lap thermoflux: rust-be-gone http://gushh.net/tmp/dscn5414f.jpg needs buffing now, but the electrolysis did most of the dirty work for me.
14:14 thermoflux nice, shiny shiny!!
14:14 thermoflux looks a lot better than beffore
14:14 GuShh_Lap I need to get some buffing wheels and wire brushes for the bench grinder :(
14:38 Hyratel1 GuShh_Lap, very nice
14:38 Hyratel1 I have some cast iron cookware need to 'lysis
14:42 Hyratel1 it's about a two qt cookpot
14:43 Hyratel1 "iron enriched laundry water"
14:49 GuShh_Lap heh
14:49 GuShh_Lap Hyratel1: works fine with iron
14:49 GuShh_Lap I did a hand vise (cast iron) a few days ago
14:49 GuShh_Lap leaves nice clean metal ready for oil or paint
14:50 GuShh_Lap ...or wax, in case of iron.
14:50 Hyratel1 yeah, i know. it's just a matter of the doing
14:50 GuShh_Lap (tools at least, not cookware)
14:50 Hyratel1 wait, what? wax?
14:50 GuShh_Lap just do it.
14:50 Hyratel1 oh ok
14:50 GuShh_Lap find a container big enough
14:50 GuShh_Lap wax for iron tools!
14:50 Hyratel1 well the peice (and the charger I would have to use) is Not Here
14:50 GuShh_Lap beeswax
14:50 GuShh_Lap aww
14:50 GuShh_Lap I use an ATX
14:50 Hyratel1 oooh, fancy
14:51 GuShh_Lap this is just one of those things that simply works with anything you throw at it, unless it's a welder then the water will boil :p
14:51 Hyratel1 hah
14:51 GuShh_Lap I heard a story of a guy derusting a bike trailer using a big DC welder and his swimming pool.
14:51 Hyratel1 I'm...
14:51 GuShh_Lap Not sure if it was true.
14:51 Hyratel1 that's./....
14:51 Hyratel1 huh.
14:52 GuShh_Lap it's entirely doable, it would just wreck your pool... with all the rust and crud.
14:52 Hyratel1 yeah, sounds like
14:52 GuShh_Lap plus the soda ash (or salt, if he's that insane)
14:52 GuShh_Lap would ruin the water
14:52 Hyratel1 oh definitely
19:15 -wilhelm.freenode.net:#robotics- [freenode-info] channel flooding and no channel staff around to help? Please check with freenode support: http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#gettinghelp
19:29 Vector_ hello
20:00 rue_more "Eat this." "why?" "its the only thing I can be certian won't kill you"
20:01 rue_more f00bar80, we need to work out a good linkage for you, tell me this a) how many degrees can the motor rotate b) how many degrees max do you need the arm to reotate?
20:01 rue_more GuShH, !#$%@$^&@ you building a lathe with that?
20:04 Hyratel1 rue_more, do what
20:06 rue_more who?
23:42 rue_more ok I need to re-arrange my room
23:42 rue_more this happens every 6 years or so
23:43 rue_more the optimizations become so obvious that there is no way to not do them
