00:35 MrCurious i believe i have finally arrived at the proper morning greeting to give those who you work with but who live in a later time zone...
00:35 MrCurious i call it Good-After-Morning
00:38 blockh34d Good Mornoon?
00:38 MrCurious who you callin a mornoon
00:39 blockh34d a Good mornoon though
00:39 MrCurious looks too close to moron/moromon
00:39 blockh34d gotta count for something
00:39 MrCurious but they are 8 hours ahead
00:39 MrCurious some 10
00:39 blockh34d yah thats true
00:39 GargantuaSauce good moron, fellow delldrone
00:39 MrCurious after-morning covers morning noon and evening :)
00:40 blockh34d thats true, its got the bases covered
00:41 ockh34d ponders guided fris
00:43 MrCurious maybe good after/morning would work better
00:43 orlock how about
00:43 orlock "wake up you lazy cunts"
00:44 blockh34d thats got a nice ring to it
00:44 MrCurious but they will have been up 2 - 10 hours before me
00:44 MrCurious and i think HR would frown on poor language, best to avoid it
00:45 rue_house hmm I need to work out how to make a manual control thing for the gripper on the robot
00:45 rue_house arm
00:45 rue_house 7
00:45 blockh34d Good Mymorning?
00:45 rue_house its 10:28pm you twitt!
00:45 rue_house :)
00:45 blockh34d (c)
00:45 blockh34d (tm) (r)
00:45 blockh34d forever
00:46 rue_house (CE)
00:46 rue_house (UL)
00:46 rue_house (CSA)
00:47 rue_house damnit, I missed bedtime
00:47 rue_house that must mean I need to stay up till the next one rolls around
00:47 blockh34d now you gotta wait till the next onetomorrow
00:47 blockh34d yes
00:47 blockh34d thats exactly how it works
00:47 blockh34d you're smart
00:48 MrCurious careful rue... consciousness has a half life
00:48 blockh34d anyone care to speculate the max pressure soldered copper can handle?
00:48 blockh34d copper.org says approx 200 psi with brazed joints
00:48 MrCurious before the slder joint breaks
00:49 blockh34d yah
00:49 blockh34d probably the joint that would go
00:49 rue_house blockh34d, you need to use thicker pipe
00:49 MrCurious would guess the solder will slip before the cocper breaks
00:49 rue_house blockh34d, what pressure do brake lines run at?
00:49 blockh34d somewhere around ridiculous i think
00:49 MrCurious i have seen the machine to test that... it goes ...........THUD
00:49 blockh34d thats what i should use eh
00:49 blockh34d sounds like a good idea, i'm gonna work on that
00:50 blockh34d i was thinking i could encase the copper in something else
00:50 blockh34d carbon fiber or something
00:50 MrCurious suppose you could just use a lever, and a water bladder
00:50 blockh34d but brake lines would be better
00:50 MrCurious drip water into bladder to increase weight until it breaks
00:50 rue_house blockh34d, solder dosn't do good over time with movement
00:50 blockh34d i think it'd take a lot of water
00:50 MrCurious then calculate the force, and examine the failure point
00:50 MrCurious then use ballbearings made of DU?
00:51 blockh34d wahts difference between solder and braze? braze = weld?
00:51 GargantuaSauce i sense shrapnel in your future
00:51 MrCurious i think you are right
00:51 rue_house ball bearings! thats what I need to make my check valves!
00:51 rue_house oh no, wait, i was gonna just buy some
00:51 blockh34d GargantuaSauce: yes i have a plan for that
00:51 blockh34d banded mail
00:51 GargantuaSauce lol
00:52 blockh34d and a fully enclosed helmet
00:52 MrCurious i think brazing implies adding a 2nd metal to make a joint out of a loosely mixed alloy
00:52 blockh34d oh thanks
00:52 rue_house oh I was gonna tear apart a laptop to see if the touchpad was usb and thought I might just check what theyre worth from ebay
00:52 GargantuaSauce they are usually ps/2 i think
00:52 MrCurious that didnt make sense the second i hit enter, but it was cear until that point
00:52 blockh34d made sense to me
00:53 MrCurious rue: dont tear it appart, boot linux and look at the dmesg and see where it hangs the touch pad off
00:53 rue_house its dead
00:53 rue_house its also a p150 with 32M of ram
00:53 rue_house its also a compaq
00:54 MrCurious ise a live one or two, then see if you can make a reasonable guess
00:54 MrCurious i have seen some touch pads that have more than 5 leads out
00:54 MrCurious ruling out simple usb
00:55 MrCurious i have a few gutted laptops in teh garage. if you ping me on a weekend i can share pictures or investigate further
00:56 rue_house $50 across the board...
00:56 rue_house WTF?
00:56 MrCurious why is it the closer it is to bed time, the more the urge to work on fun projects rises
00:56 GargantuaSauce i hate that so much
00:56 blockh34d MrCurious: now i think the word you're looking for is 'aloha'
00:56 GargantuaSauce takes me 5-6 hours to clear my head after work
00:56 blockh34d yes that gets me everytime
00:56 GargantuaSauce then it's time for bed >:|
00:56 MrCurious oh good one
00:56 rue_house I can get a daed laptop and pry my own out for less than $12
00:56 MrCurious but we have hawaiins, so that would single them out
00:56 MrCurious and offend those in cold places
00:57 blockh34d hmm ok
00:57 blockh34d thats true, i just liked the effeciency, i think it means good morning/afternoon/night all at once
00:57 MrCurious odd, living on the west coast and bitching about hot days draws amazingly little sympathy
00:57 blockh34d try louder
00:57 MrCurious perhaps i shhould fall back on the coloquial "sup" of youth
00:58 blockh34d with or without chin jut?
00:59 MrCurious hmmm, chin down and out vs down and in really alters the meaning of sup
01:00 MrCurious going to pass on that mental rabbit hole
01:00 GargantuaSauce i never thought of it but now all my previous interactions with californians have a little more context
01:00 blockh34d it really does. i think chin jut is generally the way to go, unless its a formal occasion, especially funeral etc
01:00 blockh34d thats when its best to break out the formal 'sup'
01:01 rue_house oh I see
01:01 rue_house I had the price range set
01:04 blockh34d would kevlar over carbon fiber be strong enough to warrant the expense/effort? how much thickness of carbon fiber might be equiv to 1/4" AR500?
01:04 orlock blockh34d: they are different materials
01:04 blockh34d kevlar vs carbon fiber?
01:05 orlock yeah
01:05 orlock i mean, well, obviously
01:05 blockh34d i wasnt sure if i understood your statement
01:06 blockh34d i'd wrap a carbon fiber form the same as i imagine wrapping a metal one
01:06 blockh34d i guess? no idea really
01:07 orlock yeah
01:07 blockh34d just wondering if carbon fiber plates could provide the strength of steel, cheaper
01:07 blockh34d the compaction strength
01:08 blockh34d kevlars got plenty of (i think) tensile strength
01:08 blockh34d but it wraps around the bullet and then they both penetrate whats below
01:08 blockh34d unless theres enough compaction strength of the plate beneath it
01:09 blockh34d bah i gotta go to sleep
01:16 MrCurious ditto
01:18 blockh34d gnite
01:47 GuShH_ SlaveToTheSauce: made me a hobbed pulley to play with http://gushh.net/tmp/dscn5328f.jpg going to try changing the specs around next
01:48 GargantuaSauce cool
01:48 GuShH_ I won't lie saying it's "gunmetal finish" ... because it's just an oil quench, just like they do.
01:48 ShH_ is not into marketing, obvio
01:49 GargantuaSauce and this is why you aren't rich
01:49 GuShH_ exactly
01:50 GuShH_ One of these days I'll turn full on asshole, leave my morals at home and scam a few thousand people out of their money by selling them crap they don't need.
01:51 orlock ahh, sales.
01:54 GuShH_ "asimeto" micrometers... rather spendy, with extra plastic parts for your inconvenience!
01:55 GuShH_ seller says "they're not chinese!"
01:55 GuShH_ I look up Asimeto headquarters, based in Hong Kong. Mother f.
01:55 GuShH_ THATS IN CHINA.
01:56 MrCurious from /. spot on... http://stilldrinking.org/programming-sucks
01:58 GargantuaSauce Also, the bridge was designed as a suspension bridge, but nobody actually knew how to build a suspension bridge, so they got halfway through it and then just added extra support columns to keep the thing standing, but they left the suspension cables because they're still sort of holding up parts of the bridge. Nobody knows which parts, but everybody's pretty sure they're important parts.
01:58 GargantuaSauce i died
01:58 MrCurious pure briliance
01:59 MrCurious Then he decided he wasn't going to tell anyone that this was an error, because he's a dick, and now all your snowflakes are urine and you can't even find the cat.
02:02 GargantuaSauce >You are an expert in all these technologies, and that's a good thing, because that expertise let you spend only six hours figuring out what went wrong
02:02 GargantuaSauce this is good.
02:02 MrCurious instead of losing your job
02:04 MrCurious Did you sign up for something? A computer at the NSA now automatically tracks your physical location for the rest of your life. Sent an email? Your email address just went up on a billboard in Nigeria.
02:13 MrCurious hah! the site is already not responding :)
09:04 rue_house I had a dream that there was a virus redirecting google urls to bing
09:04 rue_house oh there is
09:22 MrCurious rue_house: http://stilldrinking.org/programming-sucks
09:27 rue_house MrCurious, haha this sounds like the windows development team
09:28 MrCurious i have been on large projects like that
09:29 rue_house they forgot to mention the guy who left part way thru the project and nobody knows what his stuff does but nobody wants to rewrite it
09:40 MrCurious best just to code around it...
09:40 MrCurious if you disturb it, you own it
12:05 MrCurious not my first choice of seasons to have a broken car... http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/apr/30/santee-fire-reignites-home-evacuated/
13:13 GuShH_ Fuck me... this is classic...
13:13 GuShH_ Got my jacobs and rohm chuck in the mail, but what do you know.. the arbors are the wrong size
13:13 GuShH_ they sent me MT1 instead of MT2, what the hell man how do you fuck up so bad...
13:13 GuShH_ and where am I going to use MT1 with, am I going to have to buy adapters? throw off that juicy precision because of some idiot's mistake? fuck no.
13:14 GuShH_ why else would I want smaller, better chucks if it wasn't for a bit more precision, jerks.
13:17 GuShH_ I sincerely hope they didn't know the difference. I really do.
13:17 GuShH_ But if you don't, why are you selling this stuff.
13:17 GuShH_ waste of shipping, time and money for no good reason other than someone's stupidity.
13:28 FreezingCold Hey guys
13:28 FreezingCold What's up?
14:02 ShH_ frowns at Freezing
14:03 FreezingCold :(
14:03 GuShH_ http://directonline.millerstooling.com.au/rohm-keyless-drill-chuck-supra-type-136-1-13mm-j6
14:04 GuShH_ http://tradetools.co.nz/products/7012300
14:04 GuShH_ odd... I paid a lot less...
14:09 GuShH_ in fact, 30 bucks. NOS
14:10 GuShH_ jacobs 0-1/4 (I think it's N1) says it closes to 0, which is a lie...
15:39 GuShH_ http://www.rjpryce.com/Products/clearance-jacobs-chucks-and-keys/JAC1A closes to 1mm or so... the old ones used to close to 0, what a bunch of crap.. Jacobs is now making crap...
15:46 SlaveToTheSauce and what exactly do you want to be turning that is <1mm?
15:47 GuShH_ SlaveToTheSauce: these are drill chucks though.
15:48 GuShH_ the rohm does close to 0, and it's accurate enough to chuck < 1mm bits if you wanted to, to avoid using a pin vise
15:48 GuShH_ naturally one expects Jacobs to close to 0, when it advertises so.
15:48 GuShH_ (says 0-1/4" on the side)
15:48 GuShH_ it is their smallest model, I think
15:49 GuShH_ SlaveToTheSauce: my other chucks only close to 3mm, they're way bigger... and the other jacobs I bought (which I have yet to receive) closes to 3/8"
15:50 GuShH_ which is their biggest, at least from the super ball bearing series
15:50 GuShH_ you wouldn't want to use a drill chuck as a lathe chuck, they're not meant to take side loads.
15:50 SlaveToTheSauce yeah ok, i suppose i could have actually clicked the link
15:50 ShH_ sh
15:51 GuShH_ I don't know if Jacobs makes 2, 3, 4, 6.. etc jawed lathe chucks
15:51 GuShH_ they do make keyless drill chucks and stainless ones, but too expensive.
15:52 GuShH_ they claim the stainless are used in places where sparks are a hazard... and of course, they are more chemical resistant
15:53 GuShH_ I just think Jacobs is all hype now, it's not what it used to be.
16:24 Tom_itx is anything?
16:48 GuShH_ Tom_itx: hard to say
16:48 GuShH_ maybe if you are willing to pay a lot more than it's actually worth it...
16:48 GuShH_ the rohm is old stock, very good stuff.
19:12 rue_house wow
19:13 rue_house buy a drill and pull one off]
20:11 GuShH Oh Jacobs has a N°0... that one does close to 0.00mm (in theory), the N°1 at least the new ones go down to 0.4 or so, I chucked a 0.5mm just fine with it.
20:11 GuShH they both claim 0 but, lies.
22:13 rue_house "Dear sir/madam, your vehicle is the worst looking monstrosity on the road we have ever seen, lots of vehicles are in poor shape or dont look their best, but your is downright stomach-churning, so much so that were sorry we sold it to you. Please remove our branded liscence plate trims from it. Thankyou. "
22:19 Tom_itx found any good 'apps' for your iphone?
