00:10 armyofevilrobots old as dirt.
00:10 rue_house yup, my cnc uses a sprocket from one
00:10 armyofevilrobots Oooh, That's not the model. One sec.
00:11 armyofevilrobots I think mine is one of the newer. Xr3 maybe.
00:12 armyofevilrobots Man, their website is straight out of 1995.
00:13 rue_house cool
00:13 rue_house know a good day to come over after work?
00:13 armyofevilrobots So, this week is a bit crazy, but I could probably do a visitor tomorrow.
00:13 armyofevilrobots The house is trashed though; renos, so no bathroom :(
00:13 rue_house no worries
00:14 MrCurious :) thought i was the only one who said that

00:17 rue_house armyofevilrobots, ok
00:18 MrCurious bushes... 2L bottles
00:18 armyofevilrobots I am building a workbench, so it'll be LOUD at times.
00:18 rue_house MrCurious, np
00:18 armyofevilrobots We have a spare bathroom. Difficulty: no shower.
00:19 rue_house er
00:19 rue_house MrCurious, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxTpIMK5NSo
00:19 rue_house trees, and rocks, and water
00:25 rue_house https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6n0op0sLPA
00:25 rue_house sweeet build
00:26 rue_house I dont know what he pulled the cylinder from, a motorcycle?
00:26 rue_house or a plane
00:26 rue_house oh vw
00:27 rue_house oh, beatles are air cooled aren't they?
00:28 armyofevilrobots yep

09:09 trshfx D:
09:09 rue_house I'v not seen a vw cylinder
09:55 armyofevilrobots http://www.shining-wit.net/rick/buggy/design/engine/longblock.jpg
14:14 GargantuaSauce https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9rtQ91PQNw this is interesting
14:14 GargantuaSauce certainly $$$ but a cool design anyway
16:17 peeps[work] GargantuaSauce, what's it for? any advantages over ballscrew?
17:17 MrCurious totally thought it was tuesday
17:17 MrCurious thats unusual
19:15 m_itx gives MrCurious a day
19:15 MrCurious thanks... 6 days a week
20:09 GargantuaSauce peeps[work]: think the built-in reduction makes it a lot more compact than adding a separate planetary gear assembly at one end. also it increases the area of contact a lot so the maximum force is much higher
20:10 GargantuaSauce finally got around to pulling apart an old electric wheelchair
20:10 GargantuaSauce the motors are beeefy.
20:11 GargantuaSauce they can crank out 85W or something
20:12 GargantuaSauce torque converters on them use worm gears i think
20:12 GargantuaSauce havent decided whether to make ridiculous servos out of them or keep the wheels on and make a differential drive platform
20:18 Tom_itx save the mosfets too
20:18 GargantuaSauce i think it uses big BJTs
20:18 GargantuaSauce but yeah going to salvage what i can from the electronics
20:18 GargantuaSauce think it's a speed and charge controller on one board
20:22 GargantuaSauce 6 big chunky relays and a 40A circuit breaker, yes please
20:51 GargantuaSauce hmm these aren't just DC motors, will have to fire up the driver and see what it does
20:51 Tom_itx i had some elevator relays at one point
20:59 orlock Tom_itx: what, like motorised knife switches?
21:02 Tom_itx no they were smaller but probably 2" x 3" or so
21:03 Tom_itx not exactly sure what they were off of but were with some old elevator parts
21:20 Hyratel GargantuaSauce, pics?
21:21 GargantuaSauce gonna power it up and probe the outputs before i start dismantling
21:21 GargantuaSauce need to throw together a 24V supply first
21:24 GargantuaSauce wish i had some SLA batteries...the ones that were with the chair had been sitting at 0 for probably years so i am not going to bother trying to charge them
21:47 Guest20800 http://www.mscdirect.co.uk/ECL-15410E/SEARCH:CATEGORY/product.html
21:47 Guest20800 wtf 26 pounds?
21:48 rue_house where?
21:49 Guest20800 the price.
21:49 Guest20800 that's 43 usd
21:49 rue_house oh god i was looking for weeight! hahahaha
21:49 Guest20800 :p
21:49 rue_house for a 2" clamp
21:49 Guest20800 I got two of those mixed in with some bigger ones I bought
21:50 Guest20800 can't believe they're so pricey
21:50 rue_house sounds like a "if your too stupid to make these for yourself buy these"
21:50 Guest20800 I don't see why they're so expensive, it does have good finish (although there's a bit of rust on these)
21:50 Guest20800 but still...
21:50 Guest20800 even if it's good steel, tempered... why would it cost so much?
21:51 rue_house intentional discouragment
21:51 Guest20800 :/
21:51 rue_house is there a minimum wage? 8 lbs/hr?
21:52 Guest20800 well one of them is butchered, the other is complete
21:52 Guest20800 lbs or gbp heh
21:52 rue_house k whatever
21:52 Guest20800 I don't know, not british.
21:53 Guest20800 seems almost everything made by Eclipse is expensive
21:53 rue_house GargantuaSauce, your in australlia, right?
21:53 GargantuaSauce no, atlantic canada
21:53 GuShH Canada eh?
21:53 e_house glares at Gu
21:54 GuShH are these little clamps hardened at all?
21:54 GuShH ah case-hardened steel
21:55 rue_house is that better or worse than toolsteel?
21:55 ShH sh
21:55 GuShH you were the steel guy
21:56 rue_house i am?
21:57 GuShH I guess
21:58 GuShH not sure why but one is missing the original screw, instead it's got a tiny allen head and the other screw has been shortened to a third of the length...
23:08 GargantuaSauce seems one of the motors is dead :(
23:08 GargantuaSauce could just be a jammed gearbox
23:11 GargantuaSauce my power supplies make very unhappy noises when they're switched to a dead short
23:12 orlock squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
23:13 GargantuaSauce well and as i cranked up the throttle and the duty cycle increased it would modulate
23:22 rue_house yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, I got the robot arm deleting emails from my iphone
23:24 rue_house http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Pro-Mini-MEGA328P-Enhancement-16MHz-Compatible-to-Arduino-PRO-mini-/171203251650
23:25 rue_house for an extra $2 over the cost of the m328, I get a pcb with a reset button and xtal
23:25 rue_house worth it?
23:25 rue_house not fond of the pinout
23:45 GargantuaSauce i've found a new exercise in futility
23:45 rue_house https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZF9WJ1Ueew
23:45 GargantuaSauce trying to loosen a bolt covered in grease with a pair of needlenose pliers
23:46 GargantuaSauce no room for adjustable wrench and i dont have a mini wrench of the right size >:|
23:46 armyofevilrobots Woo; 30 mins of my CNC cutting tenons in some huge timber. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrNobjKAVE0
23:51 armyofevilrobots iphone vid is win.
23:52 rue_house :)
