00:21 rue_more my library tries to do all that
00:21 rue_more want to try a copy?
00:23 rue_more http://paste.debian.net/93300/
00:24 rue_more http://paste.debian.net/93301/
00:25 rue_more happy to help with hints on intended use
00:27 peepsalot i'm about to buy $400 in accessories for my $300 lathe
00:27 rue_more yup
00:27 rue_more you must be using quick change toolpost
00:27 rue_more that prolly makes up for more than half of it
00:27 rue_more casue of aaaaaaaaall the holders you need
00:27 rue_more each of which is $$$
00:28 peepsalot i am getting one, but its not more than half, the most is that i'm getting the full metal gear kit
00:28 rue_more one tool holder defeats the point of quick change
00:28 peepsalot http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3112
00:28 peepsalot i'm getting that
00:28 rue_more yea
00:28 rue_more almost pointless even still
00:29 peepsalot this is the big item http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3446
00:29 rue_more you get 1 left and 1 right holder...
00:29 rue_more !! it didn't come with a full gearbox!?
00:30 peepsalot well, i got it used and i didn't have the change gears. you have to swap out gears for threading. and the other gears are metal replacements because the stock gears are plastic
00:30 peepsalot some of the stock gears are plastic
00:30 peepsalot most
00:30 rue_more wow
00:30 rue_more how much was the lathe new?
00:30 peepsalot $520 MSRP i think
00:31 rue_more that IS cheap...
00:31 peepsalot http://www.harborfreight.com/7-inch-x-10-inch-precision-mini-lathe-93212.html
00:31 e_more drools over the milling attach
00:31 rue_more 7x10 is pretty small
00:32 peepsalot its fine for me
00:32 rue_more yes, dont get me wrong, having a lathe is a good thing
00:33 peepsalot there's an upgrade kit to convert to 7x14 :-P
00:33 peepsalot don't think thats necessary quit yet though, heh
00:33 rue_more most of the things I do on my lathe I could do on a 7x10
00:33 rue_more you saw the robot arm?
00:34 peepsalot i don't recall
00:34 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm7/p1050965.jpg
00:34 rue_more the lathe touched almost every part on there
00:35 rue_more most of which being using the hacksaw for E clip grooves
00:35 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm7/p1050938.jpg
00:35 GuShH_ you buy skil tools?
00:36 rue_more on the right, the 608 bearing dosn't *quite* fit into a 3/4" pipe coupling, the lathe makes short work of it
00:36 rue_more GuShH_, I have a wide variety of brands
00:36 rue_more some of my stuff comes from the second hand store
00:37 rue_more http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm7/p1050964.jpg
00:37 rue_more armmmm
00:39 GuShH_ I have a skil drill and a skilsaw... everything else is b&d, mostly from the 80s
00:39 GuShH_ it's all still working fine.
00:39 rue_more the old stuff typically holds up
00:39 GuShH_ except for a chinese drill I got in the 90s.. that thing fell apart.
00:40 rue_more they seem to have the attitude now that nobody is gonna use soemthing for more than 2 years before throwing it out anyhow, so why make it last 3
00:40 Jak_o_Shadows I oughta get my inverse kinematics software working with sliding joints
00:40 ShH_ goes to s
00:40 GuShH_ damn corporations, kill them all! with fire!
00:40 e_more tries to work out why his servo command spooler isn't ... spoo
00:42 rue_more hmm yea, like, no error handling
01:06 rue_more http://www.ebay.ca/itm/SLOTTED-ANGLE-PLATES-WEBBED-4-1-2-x-3-1-2-x-3-/151257491014?pt=BI_Tool_Work_Holding&hash=item2337a62646
01:06 rue_more I can totally make an angle block from the 3/4" plate I got out of the photocopier
06:37 GuShH_ rue_more: where do you get solid iron rod? they call for CAST IRON on this plan!!
06:37 GuShH_ and it's a small diameter too.
06:39 GuShH_ half inch
06:39 GuShH_ final dimension
07:24 Tom_itx never seen any
08:14 phorce booya!!
09:41 GuShH_ Tom_itx: I don't know why, in japan they machine a lot of cast iron... this is not from japan though, it's a small model engine and it calls for cast iron for the contra-piston, odd.
09:41 GuShH_ they also call for odd aluminum alloys and some not-so-common steel
09:42 GuShH_ why would you use 2024 T3 for the conrod?
09:42 GuShH_ 12L14 steel for the cylinder
09:43 GuShH_ and then for some other parts "meh square 1 inch aluminum"
09:43 GuShH_ actually it's from the UK
09:43 GuShH_ http://modelenginenews.org/bollaero/index.html
09:46 GuShH_ wouldn't a low carbon steel be the next best thing?
10:11 JEntrep hello :)
14:25 MrCurious http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electropermanent_magnet
14:27 GargantuaSauce how do those toggleable permanent magnets work?
14:27 MrCurious no idea
14:28 MrCurious but seems a great technique for robotic assemblies
14:28 GargantuaSauce yeah potentially
14:29 MrCurious google is usiing it in their modular phone design
14:30 GargantuaSauce i am still not sold on that idea
14:33 MrCurious definatey interesting for nano robots
14:35 Hyratel they use a +1 permag and use a reversible +/-1 electromagnet
14:35 GargantuaSauce there are definitely 100% passive ones
14:36 Hyratel aha
14:36 MrCurious according to the link, power is only needed to toggle between a passive state and a magneticallly active state, leaving it in the selected state without requiring further power
14:36 Hyratel the "latching" ones use an aggregate of +0.5 permag and +/-0.5 soft magnet
14:37 Hyratel the electromagnet is used to coerce the soft magnet into + or - state
14:41 GargantuaSauce ah ok
14:51 JEntrep anyone on? :P
15:00 MrCurious they are, but you have to bait them out of their shells using interesting thoughts...
15:02 JEntrep oh :o
15:03 MrCurious reminds me, i wanted to see if there is a cheap rfm12b based temp sensor that is cheap enough to deploy in every room and attic
15:04 JEntrep rfm12b?
15:05 MrCurious $3 radio tranciever that does packet based communications spi interface
15:05 MrCurious good range
15:05 MrCurious jeenodes use them
15:05 JEntrep jeenodes? O_o
15:06 JEntrep spi is totally insecure :P
15:06 MrCurious huh
15:06 JEntrep spi over air?
15:06 JEntrep a serial protocol?
15:07 JEntrep don't expect any security on your sensor readings
15:07 MrCurious spi is the bus that connects the AVR to the radio
15:07 JEntrep not that anyone passing by your home cares about tapping into your airwaves to read your temperature
15:07 JEntrep I thought you said radio? >_>
15:07 GargantuaSauce sometimes i find myself baffled as to whether you're trolling us or actually clueless
15:07 GargantuaSauce and by sometimes i mean every time
15:07 JEntrep nope just googleless :p
15:07 MrCurious http://nathan.chantrell.net/20120225/an-attiny-based-wireless-temperature-sensor/
15:08 MrCurious that page should clear it up for you JEntrep
15:08 JEntrep kewl thanks
15:08 JEntrep Is sauce in a bad mood?
15:08 MrCurious probably just a little sensative to stupid today
15:09 JEntrep lol
15:09 MrCurious i am poorly socialized, dont mind me
15:09 JEntrep being ignorant of something doesn't make me stupid
15:09 JEntrep lol
15:10 MrCurious http://nathan.chantrell.net/20120623/tinytx-wireless-temperature-sensor-pcb/
15:10 MrCurious looks like they did all the work
15:11 JEntrep where is the radio?
15:12 MrCurious when did CNN turn into the travel-eating channel!
15:12 MrCurious its the RFM12B
15:12 MrCurious the square thing in th pic
15:13 MrCurious http://panther.pinkboard.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/RFM12B-circuit2.png
15:13 MrCurious you really must learn about googling
15:13 GargantuaSauce i dunno why you'd choose that over nrf24l01 for indoor use
15:14 JEntrep no no that time it wasn;t about googling, it was about reading :P
15:14 JEntrep why do you guys memorize radio names?
15:15 GargantuaSauce it's a part i work with all the time, why would i not remember it
15:16 GargantuaSauce beats waving my arms and saying "you know, that thing....that does the stuff"
15:16 GargantuaSauce i have a question
15:16 GargantuaSauce how old are you?
15:16 JEntrep 3
15:17 MrCurious i want to monitor neighbor houses as well
15:17 JEntrep and charge them?
15:17 JEntrep or just be creepy?
15:17 JEntrep also good luck with charging them
15:17 MrCurious monitor their temps to learn who is doing what and gets what oolness results
15:18 MrCurious weather is hot in so cal
15:18 JEntrep weather is hot in a lot of places
15:18 MrCurious and fire is hot
15:18 JEntrep many places that don't even have access to HVAC units
15:18 JEntrep or a power grid
15:18 JEntrep your time seems properly spent though
15:19 MrCurious enlighten me on your use of time in the past 24 hours
15:20 MrCurious did you make something, study something?
15:20 MrCurious fix something, engineer something
15:20 MrCurious think grand thoughts?
15:20 MrCurious put a few llego bricks together and yelllook mommy!
15:20 JEntrep yep, I was working on a code base for an experimental kernel architecture :)
15:20 JEntrep but thats pretty average for a 3 year old these days
15:21 MrCurious and is your kernel a monolithic, or micro kernel
15:21 MrCurious what architecture is it designed for
15:21 JEntrep neither
15:22 JEntrep simulated :)
15:23 MrCurious so its a kernel architecture for a non existent platform, and exists in your head
15:23 MrCurious trying hard to understand
15:23 JEntrep will hopefully work on 80386 and later chips :)
15:23 JEntrep Or I will go to ARM
15:24 MrCurious and what problem is it intended to solve that existing kernels do not?
15:24 JEntrep Problem?
15:24 MrCurious what its hoped for perk
15:24 JEntrep No problem. :)
15:24 MrCurious or are you just reinventing a wheel to make a wheel
15:24 JEntrep do you like using buzzy statements?
15:24 MrCurious climbing a mountain to get to the top and say you did it
15:25 JEntrep the wheel has been reinvented many times btw
15:25 JEntrep You can't get to the moon with wheels :)
15:25 MrCurious i have investigated enough to form an opinion, thank you for your participation
15:25 JEntrep lol
15:26 JEntrep your opinion is worthless :)
15:26 JEntrep to all humanity
15:28 JEntrep have fun with your radio lel
15:32 JEntrep MrCurious: you must be pretty ignorant of OS design if the only questions you could conjure up in your tiny little head were about design paradigms and processor architectures! :D
15:35 JEntrep If anyone has any real questions to ask then let me know.
15:35 GargantuaSauce pretty funny for you to be chiding someone for not asking informed and in-depth questions
15:36 GargantuaSauce i appreciate the comedy
15:38 JEntrep I just don't make assumptions :)
15:39 JEntrep I ask questions when I don't know something.
15:39 JEntrep Lots to learn at 3 :P
15:40 JEntrep GargantuaSauce: got any questions? :D
15:41 JEntrep too bad, so sad :(
15:42 JEntrep Any now? :D
15:44 JEntrep no? D:
15:47 JEntrep sucks :/
15:49 JEntrep .. my dick
15:49 JEntrep huehuehue
15:52 MrCurious JenTrep's trolling work done, she left for another channel...
16:24 rue_more robot mower is out for the first time this year
16:24 rue_more usualy ordeal of keeping it out of trouble
16:30 MrCurious is it a RC lawn mower, or autonomous
16:35 Tom_itx rue_more did it get a tune up?
20:11 rue_shop2 well, batteries died, wires fried, chains came off and bolts came loose
20:11 rue_shop2 MrCurious, its autonomous
20:11 rue_shop2 http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/mowerbot/p1020962.jpg
20:45 robotustra_ autonomous in my understending it's when it can get money and cook food
20:47 GargantuaSauce i won't rest until it tells me to go eat a dick
20:50 robotustra_ does your quanroped speaks?
20:50 robotustra_ does your quanroped speak?
20:51 robotustra_ mine is not
20:59 GargantuaSauce no and it's hexapod
20:59 GargantuaSauce i have two video streams coming from it over wifi though
21:00 GargantuaSauce will make a youtube video in a few hours
21:58 robotustra_ waiting
22:00 GargantuaSauce working!
22:00 robotustra_ link please
22:00 Jak_o_Shadows I need to learn how to use a video editor
22:01 robotustra_ you don't need it, you are not James Cameron or Stiven Spilberg
22:01 robotustra_ just post a raw amater video, it exites more
22:02 Jak_o_Shadows I just want to overlay two videos overlaid at the same time
22:02 Jak_o_Shadows like a computer model and the real model simultaneously
22:02 robotustra_ hm
22:02 GargantuaSauce i dont have a link yet, havent shot a video!
22:02 GargantuaSauce been reassembling
22:03 GargantuaSauce cramming a soc and usb hub on top of the thing made things a bit more unwieldy
22:05 robotustra_ so... not today?
22:05 GargantuaSauce well for me "today" ends in 9 minutes
22:05 robotustra_ I'm implementing edge detect mechanism
22:05 GargantuaSauce it might be today for you though.
22:07 robotustra_ you are working in the night?
22:09 GargantuaSauce ya
22:13 robotustra_ and sleep during the day?
22:28 GargantuaSauce maybe
