00:04 GargantuaSauce turns out the shaft is 4.04mm
00:04 rue_shop2 what consumer good can I use for obtaining small metal pipe
00:04 GargantuaSauce hacksaw?
00:05 rue_shop2 how big is it after its been in the freezer for a while
00:05 MrCurious sand paper
00:05 rue_shop2 and how big is the bearing at 100c?
00:05 GargantuaSauce good ida
00:05 rue_shop2 probably not, but thanks
00:05 GargantuaSauce wait how will i get it off again if i do that <_<
00:05 rue_shop2 yea
00:06 e_shop2 gives GargantuaSauce a larger ha
00:06 GargantuaSauce yeah anyway i ordered some 5/32 brass rod
00:06 GargantuaSauce which will be just as wrong but in the other direction!
00:06 GargantuaSauce hooray
00:06 rue_shop2 tap it with the hammer, it gets bigger in one dimention
00:07 rue_shop2 or use a sharp punch
00:07 GargantuaSauce yeah and i can always just pad it with heatshrink or something
00:07 rue_shop2 you see, I'm really quite certian there is a hammer destined for you in the future
00:07 GargantuaSauce :)
00:08 rue_shop2 damit, I have to go to bed
00:08 rue_shop2 I came out here to do something and I dont even know what it was
00:08 GargantuaSauce made some progress playing openscad tonight
00:08 rue_shop2 yet
00:08 GargantuaSauce maybe half done the canfield joint
00:08 rue_shop2 canfield?
00:08 rue_shop2 for a reprap?
00:09 MrCurious rue_shop2: when youo leaave a room, you forget what you were thinking in the last room. go to where you were when you decided to go to that room, and the idea will return
00:09 GargantuaSauce http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVdwIiGUTMc
00:09 GargantuaSauce no for other gimballey things
00:09 GargantuaSauce camera, directional antenna, etc
00:11 rue_shop2 http://ipnspace.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/tsc-ss21.png
00:11 rue_shop2 'right plane to left plane, request we tilt over 90, I need to drop over and use the bathroom'
00:11 GargantuaSauce spaceshipone is such a buzzkill
00:12 GargantuaSauce or two i guess that is
00:13 GargantuaSauce either way, cant even achieve orbit
00:13 GargantuaSauce bleh
00:15 rue_shop2 anyhow, my time is up
00:15 GargantuaSauce later
09:37 GuShh_ theBear: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R582scUl2C8/UmdTyyHJQWI/AAAAAAAAA2c/pp4nZLo1rQg/s1600/por+pasarse+de+pendejo.gif
10:47 KongfuPanda GuShh_, omg, did he die?
10:47 GuShh_ probably lost some teeth
10:47 GuShh_ didn't know what hit him, retard
10:48 GuShh_ I ran the math and I can see it pushing you back, but not flying off... it's either from a movie or he's just skin and bones
10:49 KongfuPanda GuShh_, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enRKvjKr7l0
10:49 GuShh_ KongfuPanda: 150PSI nitrogen filled, I assume.
10:49 GuShh_ could be just air
10:49 GuShh_ either way over 30L of volume
10:50 GuShh_ KongfuPanda: and if the truck is under load, it's even worse
10:50 GuShh_ as there's more potential energy stored
10:50 KongfuPanda there was definitely blood on the pavement
10:50 KongfuPanda I hope his knife didn't sheet back at him
10:50 GuShh_ not so with a regular car, it just goes PSHHHh
10:51 GuShh_ He hit the weakest point of the tyre
10:51 KongfuPanda imgur says it's a military vehicle
10:52 GuShh_ KongfuPanda: yeah the knife cut him in the arm
10:52 GuShh_ plus whatever he broke when he landed on his face
10:52 GuShh_ retard
10:53 GuShh_ but he's an asian
10:53 GuShh_ there's more of them
10:53 KongfuPanda check this out to lighten the mood : www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jai_flUIC9Y
10:53 GuShh_ LOL
10:54 GuShh_ I want a pair!
10:54 GuShh_ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJOqjh1hrBw
10:55 GuShh_ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUa40FpGLhc wtf
10:55 robotustra hey
10:56 robotustra youtube is blocked at work
10:56 GuShh_ robotustra: you suck
10:56 robotustra no, you suck
10:56 GuShh_ why?
10:56 GuShh_ :(
10:58 GuShh_ robotustra: At any rate if I suck, you BLOW.
10:59 robotustra I don't watch youtube at work
10:59 robotustra I did too much youtube yesterday :)
10:59 robotustra no bullshit during the week
11:00 GuShh_ robotustra: so how do you deal with yourself during the week?
11:01 robotustra I just DO ROBOTS
11:01 KongfuPanda GuShh_, my problem with some T-shirts is that they shrink after wash/dry and then my butt is visible. I need to be careful to follow the washing instructions
11:01 robotustra one robot, sorry
11:01 GuShh_ Well if that's what you like... I tend to do women instead.
11:01 GuShh_ KongfuPanda: do you bend a lot?
11:02 KongfuPanda GuShh_, no, but I sometime have to do manual handling in my labs
11:02 robotustra I don't have time for woman
11:02 GuShh_ a lab plumber!
11:02 KongfuPanda GuShh_, only when oestrogen is high
11:02 robotustra they just take your time and give nothing back
11:03 GuShh_ robotustra: lol I guess most of them do
11:03 GuShh_ KongfuPanda: I can't find good steel toe boots anywhere
11:03 GuShh_ they only last me a year, just for basic stuff at home .... imagine in an industrial setting, they would fall apart after a month
11:03 GuShh_ and the last pair I got was the most expensive
11:04 GuShh_ all sorts of fancy 3M fabrics and shit, they fell apart.
11:04 GuShh_ but even when I'm doing basic work at home I need the protection, it has saved me many times.
11:06 KongfuPanda GuShh_, why would you want that ?
11:07 KongfuPanda don't tell me they are also made from snake/reptile skins ?
11:15 GuShh_ KongfuPanda: what?
11:15 GuShh_ KongfuPanda: 3M are all synthetic materials
12:59 GuShh_ http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/1/5164340/delivery-drones-are-coming-jeff-bezos-previews-half-hour-shipping
13:32 GuShh_ rue_house: see the plate that fastens the compound to the carriage? http://www.micro-machine-shop.com/QCTP_14mm_crosslide_2.jpg that's homemade, the original uses 2 T slotted bolts and nuts, it's the weakest point on these lathes.
13:33 GuShh_ I disagree with the use of aluminum though
18:21 photog3 Can anyone help me identify a servo or stepper?
18:24 Jak_o_Shadows We can only try.
18:24 Jak_o_Shadows still, if it doesn't have a label.
18:25 photog3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=pu_U5OlfXyY#t=441
18:26 photog3 Looking through automation direct it looks like it's just an encoder… but that doesn't make sense
18:27 photog3 I'm trying to figure out what they're using to read deltas in torque while in rotation.
18:27 Jak_o_Shadows wouldn't you want full motion? So you'd be wanting a servo with fancy sensing, not just a pot
18:28 photog3 you absolutely want full rotation. you just need to read torque while it's rotating..
18:30 photog3 exactly. i'm trying to figure out how they're instrumenting it. it looks like it's a FRU from automationdirect.com
18:34 GuShh_ Tom_itx: Hrmm... For some reason this 2005 alloy faces very nicely but I'm finding a few operations to be harder than usual, getting chatter in odd spots (could be inclusions within the alloy?)
18:34 GuShh_ when I get chatter, I inspect and see a tiny marred portion which is actually a bit higher up than the rest of the surface
18:35 GuShh_ never seen this before!
20:46 GuShh_ rue_house: Need to fix the compound issue but other than that it's cutting very nicely, all hand fed http://gushh.net/tmp/dscn4613f.jpg --- http://gushh.net/tmp/dscn4614f.jpg Will get the 11.5mm drill bit tomorrow to finish this off, I don't have a boring bar small enough to bore 11.5mm...
20:46 GuShh_ saw a video of a guy making small boring bars out of old car / truck valve stems
20:47 GuShh_ might give that a go, should ask at the local shops if they've got any old ones to spare
20:47 GuShh_ it's not HSS but it's close enough for aluminum
20:47 GuShh_ Walked by the other day, they had a shitload of old heads and pistons around, but didn't have time to stop and ask
21:13 MrCurious someone show me something cool pls. i am in a down mood, and need to see cool technological progress.
21:14 robotustra_ :)
21:26 GuShh_ MrCurious: http://netdna.webdesignerdepot.com/uploads/cellphone_design/dkmb86g_487pr55s2hc_b.jpg
21:26 MrCurious oh! is that the new model in argentina?
21:26 MrCurious sleek
21:26 GuShh_ haha
21:26 MrCurious whats it got like 4 months of battery lilfe?
21:26 GuShh_ 4 eons
21:28 GuShh_ MrCurious: http://flickrhivemind.net/Tags/dynatac,pcb/Interesting
21:28 GuShh_ not the same model, but check out the construction
21:29 MrCurious GuShh_: check u PM's
21:30 GuShh_ MrCurious: nevah
21:38 MrCurious https://www.dropbox.com/sc/mljyvywsn9djzpo/gO6FbP3xVS
21:45 GuShh_ robotustra: your alien sucks
22:02 robotustra_ GuShh_: and?
22:11 notorand1 Is there a recommended solenoid valve array for pneumatic robotics?
22:12 GargantuaSauce i don't think any of us have done pneumatics past a single actuator
22:12 GargantuaSauce would be interested to hear what you end up finding though :)
22:15 MrCurious http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7053/6865975984_02711b6ea5_c.jpg
22:15 MrCurious wonder if that is the best physical design for diy delta bot
22:16 GargantuaSauce do you mean the kinematics or the implementation
22:16 MrCurious for makaing teh uniersal joints
22:16 GargantuaSauce i think it's pretty alright, those kossel/rostocks have sweet performance
22:17 GargantuaSauce i am using bearings for my canfield joint though
22:20 notorand1 Maybe make an array of these? https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11015
22:21 GargantuaSauce yeah that could be an option, though you should be able to find them for about a tenth of that price
22:21 MrCurious are solenoids power efficient
22:22 GargantuaSauce not particularly, but driving them well helps
22:22 GargantuaSauce (ie using more current to actuate than to hold position)
22:23 MrCurious they would need to be closed loop to be useful?
22:24 GargantuaSauce i don't think so, just timed open loop should do the trick
22:30 MrCurious hmmm linear motor delta bot
22:30 MrCurious wonder if its been done
22:31 MrCurious like the maglev motors
22:35 GargantuaSauce http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO99KgLyExw
22:36 GargantuaSauce those motors look pretty sweet
22:36 GargantuaSauce i bet they cost more than my combined assets
22:37 robotustra_ not so precise and big inertion
22:37 GargantuaSauce they are STUPIDLY precise
22:38 GargantuaSauce http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP4e4mJnIzU
22:38 MrCurious whoa! buy one, get one half off bra's at victoria secret
22:38 MrCurious does that mean if you buy 2....
22:39 MrCurious *GIGGEDY* *GIGGEDY*
22:45 MrCurious http://www.ebay.com/itm/171144226373?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
22:45 GargantuaSauce i think some people have definitely used off the shelf universal joints
22:46 MrCurious yup
22:46 MrCurious however they may have slop
22:46 MrCurious may have better results glueing 2 berings together at a 9 offset
22:47 GargantuaSauce everything will have slop :V
22:47 MrCurious thats fine as long as its inpercievable
23:06 MrCurious wonder if a delta bot could be done using nilon for the shafts and universal joints, and springs to the base to hold them taught
23:11 GargantuaSauce i don't think so
23:44 notorand1 This looks sweet.. DB25 controlled 16 pneumatic solenoid manifold: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMC-Manifold-SS5V2-09-CCM00387-Air-Pneumatic-Solenoid-Valve-SV2A00-5FU-/170933626351
23:47 GargantuaSauce that certainly look interesting...where are you getting the 16 from though?
23:48 GargantuaSauce also what's your application?
23:50 notorand1 I just counted from the picture.. maybe that's not right.
23:51 GargantuaSauce i am not familiar with those systems but it looks to me like four solenoid modules and a regulator
23:52 GargantuaSauce okay each module has two i guess
23:55 MrCurious beg pardon
