00:39 GuShH lunatic.
00:40 useless-afk finally figured it out: what to make a 'picture' frame deep enough to show off a pair of 40 yr old calculators, and be techie, sturdy, and led itself to internal led lighting: make the shadow box with extruded heatsink
00:42 GuShH lunatic needs a man
01:51 SleepersTide`` sup guys
01:52 SleepersTide`` does this look 3-axis to anyone else? : http://www.xintech-cnc.com/wood-cnc-lathe/20130819-293.html
01:52 SleepersTide`` I can't tell from the photos and don't know lathes very well
01:53 SleepersTide`` the sample photos seem to indicate that it has some kind of mill function as well
01:59 SleepersTide`` never mind, found a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YEhZY_1hhQ
01:59 SleepersTide`` or similar model
02:34 rue_bed I was wondeirng why I only ran the boiler just a few times last year, but now I see, there arn't many days a person needs to
05:32 GargantuaSauce http://workman-industries.net/?p=53 rambling blog post about my hexapod
09:28 rue_house GargantuaSauce, cool, ? it almost looks like the kinematics are out a bit? maybe thats just softness in the servos?
09:31 rue_house sounds like your doing the same motion control method I'm working on with mine
10:15 SleepersTide I'm curious as to whether or not I'd be able to get someone to write software for a hexapod I designed
10:15 SleepersTide but I haven't tested the design yet
10:56 SquirrelCZECH maybe
10:56 SquirrelCZECH copy it from somebody? :D
14:24 GargantuaSauce rue_house: the frame is floppy which is the cause of that
14:24 GargantuaSauce and the motion control may be similar but it's fundamentally open-loop since i don't get position feedback
18:15 eless is going to be **real** sore (or real drunk) to
18:16 useless i was using an axe to relocate wood
18:17 Tom_itx from the forest to the fireplace?
18:17 useless drying first, but yeas
18:18 eless grew up on a farm(s) and can make oak chips with her double-bit axe big enough to
18:18 useless it's just how sharp it is, and how it is applied to the wood that matters
18:19 useless if you must force the axe, you are doing it wrong, you shouldn't haveto be any more than butch with it
18:24 useless how does one lure a rattle snake into a trap? my "pet" , which has been hanging around 2 or 3 years has decided to assert itself, and altho it left me after the encounter, i dunno i want it around any longer
18:24 Tom_itx feed it a dog
18:24 useless more than once i have surprised it, and it woke to find me watching it, like today, only today it got real alarmed
18:26 useless i keep steel etc up off the ground, so it's good habitat for rabbit, snake, and frogs,, i don't want to put my foot down near the steel and get snakebit
18:26 useless they'd be under the car, leaves, mulch pile, etc
18:27 useless so tme to relocate the snake
19:01 Tom_itx toss it next door
20:09 rue_house GargantuaSauce, did I show you how to do force feedback with those servos?
20:17 GargantuaSauce with current sensing?
20:18 GargantuaSauce i am strongly considering doing so in the next iteration of my electronics
20:21 GargantuaSauce what would you recommend for amplification? my analog-fu is not strong
20:21 GargantuaSauce i don't want to use a low vcc for the ADCs
20:22 useless-afk any audio opamp should be plenty
20:22 GargantuaSauce well quad opamps will get unwieldy because i want to still have 32 channels
20:23 useless-afk why unwieldy?
20:23 GargantuaSauce and yeah i could do current sensing on only a subset but that seems like a cop-out
20:23 GargantuaSauce because ideally it'd all be on one board and that's 8 more ICs
20:24 useless-afk you can get them in real tiny smd packages
20:24 GargantuaSauce yeah, i suppose i really should make a foray into pcb making
20:25 useless-afk if you have a common gnd on the pwr, you can use 4 74HC4051 and one quad opamp
20:26 useless-afk or even 4 74HC4051 and one soic-4 opamp
20:26 useless-afk depends on how much processing you wanna do
20:27 GargantuaSauce i am happy to dump most of the work on the software side because i am using a stupidly powerful mcu anyway
20:27 useless-afk ok
20:28 useless-afk er, soic-8
20:29 eless-afk is real tired to
20:30 useless-afk atmel makes the avr, iirc they also make 32bit 50Mhz mcu
20:31 GargantuaSauce i am not touching avr32
20:31 useless-afk AT32UC3C264C
20:31 useless-afk why not?
20:32 useless-afk 120Mhz
20:32 GargantuaSauce because i am more than happy with the stm32f4
20:32 GargantuaSauce 168mhz
20:32 GargantuaSauce and floating point
20:32 useless-afk ok
20:32 useless-afk AT32UC3C264C= [!what][!atmel][!avr] 32bit; hardware multiplier; DSP instructions; FPU; MPU and Flash vault;
20:33 GargantuaSauce mmmm i could throw a pair of these http://ca.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Maxim-Integrated/MAX11643EEG+T/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtgJDuTUz7Xu9i0MFvWOp9XjVRt5hpIZJs%3d at it
20:33 GargantuaSauce with a low vref
20:34 eless-afk is so glad she got 300 free 20Mhz 10bit convertors
20:34 useless-afk of curse, now what to do with them
20:35 useless-afk got 300 dac too, sterio audio 16bit, serial inputs tho
20:35 robotustra what size?
20:36 useless-afk humans scrap the darnest things
20:40 robotustra useless-afk
20:40 robotustra where did you get all this stuff?
20:40 robotustra send me please a couple
20:54 GargantuaSauce i might end up just tapping into the internal position sense pots on the servos
20:57 MrCurious time to watch the news and see if those alcaida possed republicans are still hell bent on destoying the country.
21:29 rue_shop2 haha! I hacked the serial off the motherboard for my hexapod!
21:30 rue_shop2 (it didn't work because of a lack of -12V for the rs232 converters, I realzied that converting it to rs232 and back was stupid and pulled it off the motherboard at ttl levels
21:30 rue_shop2 )
21:47 GuShH robotustra: she may get all kinds of crap but she rarely seems to use any...
21:48 rue_shop2 GargantuaSauce, most of them do use votlage dividers, but you can also tap a sample ff the motor driver, the length of the pulse it drives the motor with is directly proportionate to the load on it
22:01 rue_shop2 one of the most annoying parts is going to be having to go thru 18 axies and correct the servo polarities
22:03 GargantuaSauce that sort of thing is one of the motivations for doing a scripting interface
22:04 Triffid_Hunter rue_shop2: go grab the code for that robot that learns its limbs by itself
22:05 rue_shop2 bah I could write my own
22:05 rue_shop2 I was thinking that adding code to detect the loop polarity wouldn't be that hard
22:06 rue_shop2 anyone seen any good ways to route wires along the legs of small hexapods?
22:07 rue_shop2 right now I'm doing a cable loop around the axis axle, so the wire acts as a coil spring, I dont like it, somethings gonna get pinched
22:07 Triffid_Hunter run some piano wire, fasten the cable to it
22:07 rue_shop2 hmm
22:08 rue_shop2 oh! route thru a spring!
22:08 Triffid_Hunter yeah that works too if you got springs long enoguh
22:08 GargantuaSauce since when is your hexapod 'small'
22:10 GuShH since he found a laptop that would fit inside his tupperware
22:14 rue_shop2 hahaha
22:14 rue_shop2 THIS IS A SMALL ROBOT!
22:14 rue_shop2 the 12' mecha is small tooo
22:14 GargantuaSauce this is the same design i've seen with big pyramidal wire feet right?
22:14 rue_shop2 yea
22:15 GargantuaSauce yeah i can't see that being "small" :V
22:15 rue_shop2 the one currently occupying my 4x6 work table
22:15 rue_shop2 ITS SMALL!
22:15 rue_shop2 if it wasn't small, I wouldn't be having space issues
22:15 rue_shop2 its not tiny
22:15 GargantuaSauce perhaps reentry is in order
22:16 rue_shop2 I think there is like, almost 1kg of jumper wires on this thing
22:16 robotustra http://movies.netflix.com/WiPlayer?movieid=70269016&trkid=2361637&t=Robotomy&tctx=-99%2C-99%2C2a8d5497-a9e1-448a-b35c-a144fda8591f-17319737
22:16 GargantuaSauce lol
22:18 GargantuaSauce man i should just go break into a robotis warehouse and run off with a pallet of dynamixels
22:19 rue_shop2 haha, your logged, now i can do it and people will think it was you
22:20 GargantuaSauce only if you cut me in
22:23 e_shop2 grumbles about wire management on his r
22:32 rue_shop2 ok, well thats 2 legs wired and a working serial system
22:35 useless-afk tv news just ran the weather stats, it's "claer" outside, claer , because they cannot say "clear" ,, or temperature (tempacher)
22:43 rue_house ok! new hexapod pictures!
22:43 rue_house who wants to see!
22:44 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1050594.jpg
22:44 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1050595.jpg
22:44 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1050596.jpg
22:44 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1050597.jpg
22:44 GuShH you need to get better at naming them
22:44 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1050598.jpg
22:45 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1050599.jpg
22:45 rue_house who can spot the cheap thing I found a creative use for?
22:45 GuShH or just say "watch all the pics from 07-Oct-2013 at here http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/"
22:46 rue_house admit it, if I didn't post the whole url, you wouldn't invenst the energy to click on it. :)
22:46 GuShH everything must've been cheap, otherwise you wouldn't have bought it
22:47 rue_house heh, I'm actaully prettymuch at the 200% of budget limit on that one
22:47 rue_house I think it has like 40c left
22:47 rue_house ($20 budget on all robots)
22:48 GuShH the sad thing is that without blueprints and schematics people can't learn from your robots
22:48 rue_house I'v put all the knowledge stuff in the tutorials pages
22:48 GuShH you should smear some red paint on them and get someone to showcase them in some museum.
22:49 GuShH so what's the cheap thing with a creative use
22:49 rue_house look at the images carefully, take a guess
22:49 GuShH you assumed I wouldn't invest the energy to click on a listing
22:49 GuShH it stands to reason I don't want to look at the images carefully!
22:50 rue_house kat?
22:50 GuShH is it usb related?
22:50 rue_house heh, not really
22:51 GuShH should post xray images then, it's hard to look through all that mess
22:51 GuShH how much does it weigh?
22:51 rue_house heh, I'd like to hear how you would do if differently
22:51 rue_house gee, I havn't weighed it latley
22:51 GuShH I don't have time for that
22:51 GargantuaSauce you should post pictures that are bigger than 640x480
22:52 rue_house I'll do that later
22:52 GargantuaSauce it's not 1997 anymore
22:52 rue_house I'm donated the space for free, I dont want to abuse it
22:52 GuShH I assumed GargantuaSauce would be laughing his arse off
22:52 GargantuaSauce more like squinting my corneas off
22:53 GargantuaSauce is that an isa COB?
22:53 rue_house its a hybrid of some kind
22:53 rue_house I think its eisa
22:53 GuShH does it need it's own reactor to power itself?
22:54 rue_house I actaully took the images in 9mp accidently, I usually only take them in 3
22:54 rue_house GuShH, 6x8 cell phone batteries
22:54 GuShH I take at highest available then size down
22:54 useless-afk http://hub.org/freebsd-vps-hosting
22:54 GuShH usually down to 25%
22:55 GuShH rue_house: what are you using to manage the charging
22:55 GuShH and discharging for that matter
22:55 GargantuaSauce fire extinguisher
22:55 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1010935.jpg
22:55 rue_house right now its a cycling 1 cell charger
22:55 GuShH oh but I couldn't see the extinguisher, must be underneath that other thing which is on top of the other thing
22:56 GargantuaSauce [00:32:38] <rue_house> who can spot the cheap thing I found a creative use for?
22:56 rue_house its got relays and a 4017, when the cell is charged, it moves to the next
22:56 GuShH does the charger work off of an inverter?
22:56 GargantuaSauce the only answer i have to this is EVERYTHING
22:56 ShH g
22:56 rue_house hint, stationary store
22:56 GuShH rue is more of an artist than an engineer
22:57 GargantuaSauce i also like the CF->IDE bridge
22:57 GargantuaSauce i have a couple of those but never found a use for em
22:57 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1010936.jpg <-- charge selector schematic (with battery schematic)
22:57 GuShH GargantuaSauce: I respect that he can go through a pile of junk and put things together in a cohesive or at least functional manner, but everything else I don't like. I think he fears efficiency and optimization of any kind
22:57 ShH h
22:58 GargantuaSauce well i mean it makes perfect sense in the context of the $40 materials cost
22:58 GuShH he said less than 40
22:58 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1010976.jpg
22:58 GuShH 20
22:59 GuShH actually all of that crap as new would cost a tiny fortune
22:59 GargantuaSauce and 200% of 20 is...
22:59 GuShH 6
22:59 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1030860.jpg there are the cell packs
22:59 GuShH but he had a few cents left, so you are also wrong.
22:59 GuShH budget != cost
23:00 rue_house yea, budget is $20, cost is almost 200% of budget
23:00 GuShH rue_house: if you stack them all and add a big nail on a solenoid, you can have a pretty dependable self-destruct function
23:00 rue_house 200% is the hard limit
23:01 GuShH I like that one battery has been marked "xxx"
23:01 rue_house the only way a robot gets more is if its 'finished' and takes on some kinda modification
23:01 rue_house heh, I have a cell ESR tester...
23:02 rue_house hey, they were from a pile of old batties at the cell shop
23:02 rue_house you get what you get
23:02 GuShH nothing alcohol can't rub off
23:02 rue_house that was me
23:02 GuShH I do not allow porno batteries in my shop
23:02 rue_house they been sitting for years, I top them up every so often
23:02 rue_house sometimes, some go bad
23:03 GargantuaSauce and that's where the fire extinguisher comes into play
23:03 GuShH my universal "bad" or "disregard" mark is an X with a circle around it
23:03 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1030972.jpg backplane for the batteries
23:03 GuShH a mere x means CENTER PUNCH HERE NOW
23:04 GuShH finally there's some logic to your madness
23:05 GuShH modularity!
23:05 rue_house yup
23:05 rue_house as generic as I can make them
23:05 GuShH a generic power module for just about any robot would be a good thing
23:05 GuShH (ignoring car batteries)
23:05 rue_house cause at some point, it all becomes someting else
23:06 GargantuaSauce ive been using 3s lipos and little SMPS modules
23:06 rue_house I use 'rc-con' for my signals (- + sig)
23:06 rue_house I have two power standards 'system6' and 'system 8'
23:07 rue_house 'system 6' carries 5V gnd and "12V" which can be any higher voltage, its a reversable connector (6 pins)
23:07 ShH wonders whether to read work related emails now or if he should ignore them until tomo
23:07 rue_house 'system 8' carries 5V gnd "-12V" and "12V" either which can be any higher voltage, its a reversable connector (8 pins) used for bipolar systems that implement half bridge motor drivers
23:08 rue_house such as the hexapod
23:08 GuShH you forgot system 666 with the 100kV inverter
23:08 rue_house (for a pain-in-the-ass power supply I only have to use half the driver transistors)
23:09 GargantuaSauce i wish monolithic logic-driven halfbridges were cheaper
23:09 rue_house I wish someone would make a 6A hexfet in a to-92
23:10 GuShH bah I need to make a socket adapter to get this tiny 26cc engine started
23:10 GuShH it was going to be the power plant for my mower bot, originally...
23:10 rue_house alternator?
23:11 GuShH as aux drive, plus blade drive
23:11 rue_house noisy machine
23:11 GuShH because I don't like electric stuff.
23:11 GuShH who cares about noise?
23:11 GuShH I love 2 stroke engines
23:12 GuShH I got this one cheap, for a reason... needs a new top end
23:12 GuShH (scorred cylinder and piston)
23:16 GuShH rue_house: no pull starter, the ratchet pawl is still there though...
23:19 GargantuaSauce http://ch00ftech.com/2013/10/08/light-up-earrings/ this is kinda cool
23:20 MrCurious jipo earrings?
23:20 MrCurious lipo
23:20 GargantuaSauce yeah
23:21 GargantuaSauce the breakaway programming header on the board is neat
23:21 MrCurious couldnt they get a working thermite power source instead?
23:22 MrCurious screwed up a script today resulting in me dosing my gmail account
23:22 MrCurious like 2k+ emails
23:22 MrCurious spooled by google for hours
23:24 GargantuaSauce whoopsie
23:25 GuShH I thought they already made led earrings for rave sluts
