00:22 dumbass-afk Two electrodes were placed in the glass of wine, whereupon they reacted with the acetic acid in the drink. This created a tiny current which, in turn, powered up the aforementioned chipset.
00:24 dumbass-afk http://www.electronicproducts.com/Electromechanical_Components/Motors_and_Controllers/Maggot-like_robot_devours_brain_tumors.aspx
00:24 rue_shop2 finishing the new machine will be nice, not have to wait so long for things to finish
00:27 mbass-afk would like some lasagna and a cnc
00:53 rue_shop2 haha I just remembered a way I could have done this by hand faster
00:53 rue_shop2 but now I can go finish supper while its happening
00:53 rue_shop2 kat, lasagna ok, but were out of cnc machines
00:56 rue_shop2 sweet, its not even hitting the clamps
00:57 rue_shop2 "I started a rock garden, I put Chuck Barry in the front row"
00:58 rue_shop2 hmmm, one of the axies of my machine uses a 6-32 drive screw, I think I'll upgrade it to 10-32
00:59 rue_shop2 not now...
01:02 rue_shop2 kat is it correct to assume that the stock size for making 10-32 theaded rod is same as #10 drill bit?
01:03 dumbass-afk no
01:04 mbass-afk hates being off by the width of a sharp pencil
01:04 rue_shop2 huh, how the hell do I know what stock size to thread?
01:05 dumbass-afk you look in those charts yu downloaded and printed out, hung over the shelf with the drill bits and taps
01:06 mbass-afk would upload one, but to wh
01:10 dumbass-afk 10-32 is tap bit size #21 / .159 , 10-24 is #17 / .173
01:12 dumbass-afk .159 ~ 5/32 ~ 4mm , .173 ~ 11/64
01:13 rue_shop2 my 10-32 tap is junk
01:14 rue_shop2 says so right on it "tungsten"
01:14 dumbass-afk pricey junk
01:15 rue_shop2 if it wasn't ju7nk it would say HSS
01:15 e_shop2 wraps up cnc mac
01:16 dumbass-afk my good ones cost too much and come from Fastenal, and can drill thru that hard bedframe like it was aluminum
01:19 dumbass-afk bits from harbor freight, lowes, homedepot can't drill even one hole thru that stuff
01:19 rue_shop2 been there
01:26 rue_house oops, while washing the clothes, it seems I'm also laundering money
01:28 Faek Bad rue
01:31 rue_house http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmbW5gvAX4U&feature=player_embedded#t=41
01:31 rue_house now thats a nice quadroped
02:11 dumbass-afk nice robot, wings should be much bigger tho
02:11 dumbass-afk twice that size at least
02:15 mbass-afk has wonders how to make a horse-sized biped, controlled by sitting into (fake legs hanging off the saddle to stirrups) the body, able to run 1
02:16 dumbass-afk if the robot legs are controlled by my legs, and the rest of the movement is by hidden buttons in a grip rail the reins are draped over, it might work
02:28 dumbass-afk Disney in Orlando had/has a biped that "pushes" a cart around
02:28 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, that's clever
08:15 GuShH dumbass-afk: amazing how much of a difference that little bit of concrete does inside the column of a cheap drill press!
09:51 ShH considers buying a couple more of those drill presses to make a small production "b
10:17 Tom_itx to bank what?
10:24 GuShH Tom_itx : when multiple drills are available it's called a bank, likewise with multi drilling heads they're actually named "banks" -- As far as I'm aware you also call a series of drill presses mounted on a bench, one next to the other with different bits attached a "bank"
10:24 GuShH so that multiple operations can be carried in series without having to change the tooling
10:25 Tom_itx i'm aware of bank drilling
10:25 GuShH it's only seen on small production lines.
10:25 Tom_itx what are you gonna bank with em?
10:25 GuShH as to what I'm going to be drilling, that's irrelevant!
10:25 Tom_itx not really
10:25 GuShH why not?
10:26 GuShH you curious you
10:26 Tom_itx cause i'm nosey
10:26 GuShH Well, I'm also looking at a punch press
10:26 GuShH for making a series of holes on sheet metal
10:26 Tom_itx i know what they are too
10:27 GuShH ...someone else reading might not know.
10:27 m_itx punches G
10:27 GuShH Tom_itx: what's wrong with you today!
10:27 Tom_itx i'm perfectly fine today
10:27 GuShH When I'm in a good mood, you're in a bad mood?
10:28 GuShH Then we are not compatible when both of us are in a good mood.
10:28 ShH kicks Tom_itx's c
10:28 GuShH that'll do
10:28 Tom_itx that's better!
10:29 GuShH what would you recommend for punching / drilling a series of holes on sheet metal then?, also I'm counter-sinking the holes a bit to accomodate the rivets a bit more flush
10:29 GuShH maybe there are punch and dies set that will do just that
10:29 GuShH they're all from 1 to 2CM apart from the edge, so that's not a massive requirement.
10:29 Tom_itx aluminum?
10:30 GuShH mild steel, 0.9mm
10:30 GuShH might go for a smaller gauge
10:30 Tom_itx making a boiler?
10:30 GuShH nope
10:30 GuShH this is for another project.
10:30 GuShH right now I'm working on the sheet metal for the lathe stand, but I'm going to need this for something else.
10:30 Tom_itx get a step drill with the head angle built in
10:31 Tom_itx those are common for such things
10:31 GuShH but it does take time compared to punching the holes
10:32 GuShH it's OK for a few holes, but they add up. I have over 20 on each panel (just because)
10:32 GuShH I'll keep doing them with the drill press but just trying to figure out ways to speed up the process for other projects
10:33 GuShH and the boiler deal is on hold until I can source the specific stock I need.
10:35 GuShH you are right that the step drill + depth stop could speed things up but since they're also rather big it gets harder to see the punch mark!
10:35 GuShH unless I can find a really thin one that starts at 2mm or so (target size is 3.5mm with a countersink of about 6mm diameter)
10:36 Tom_itx cnc don't need no stinkin punch mark
10:36 GuShH of course a center drill could just do
10:36 GuShH this is manual
10:36 GuShH I challenge your CNC to hold a 1x2 meter sheet of metal
10:37 Tom_itx my bud's will
10:37 GuShH ain't yours! pft
10:37 Tom_itx phone call away
10:37 GuShH pfft! pfft!!
10:37 Tom_itx :)
10:37 GuShH thing about center drills is the ones I have cost a lot more than a regular hss 3.5mm bit
10:38 GuShH so there's that as well.
10:38 Tom_itx so buy some cheap ones
10:38 Tom_itx don't buy tools you're afraid to use
10:38 GuShH hard to find cheap ones around here
10:38 GuShH I'm drawing a line when it comes to long runs of anything vs small precision work on a one-off
10:38 Tom_itx which reminds me.. i need to pick up some more cutoff wheels today
10:38 GuShH I like to keep my good bits for the latter
10:39 GuShH yey, I haven't gone through the last ones I bought yet.
10:39 Tom_itx i got a good drill set and a crap drill set and a box of used to be drills
10:39 GuShH I only buy 1mm thick ones now
10:39 GuShH or 1.2, sick of the rest.
10:40 GuShH what's the exact point on a 4mm "cutoff" wheel? they're more like grinding wheels to me...
10:40 Tom_itx and a few odd drills for taps etc stored with the taps
10:40 GuShH (I know they all work on grinding action, don't be an arse!)
10:40 GuShH that's nice
10:40 GuShH I have so few taps I haven't even thought about that
10:40 Tom_itx i get em cheap from my surplus guy
10:41 ShH needs one of them
10:41 Tom_itx usually .50 - $1 ea or so depending on the size
10:41 GuShH he's also one phone call away huh
10:41 Tom_itx speed dial
10:41 Tom_itx get my endmills there as well
10:43 GuShH yey
10:43 ShH is trying to get a deal on a lot of 1/2 hp 3 phase mo
10:43 Tom_itx he used to have alot more used stuff
10:43 Tom_itx sold it as scrap by the pound
10:43 GuShH if it worked for him...
10:43 Tom_itx he got tired of sorting it
10:44 GuShH lucky bastard
10:44 Tom_itx some were like 4" EM etc
10:44 GuShH could've made a nifty paperweight though
10:44 Tom_itx horizontal stacking blades etc
10:46 GuShH don't they look too big for half hp? http://bimg1.mlstatic.com/motor-12-hp-trif_MLA-F-2771600486_062012.jpg
10:46 GuShH I can't read what it says
10:46 Tom_itx you got 3 phase?
10:47 GuShH I do, but these would go on VFDs
10:47 GuShH dude has 20 of them
10:47 Tom_itx .54 hp
10:47 GuShH 3 phase 100A going down, but for some reason they've changed the breaker to a 60A
10:47 GuShH still more than I'll probably ever use.
10:48 GuShH 380v
10:48 Tom_itx delta or wye
10:48 GuShH they're rather big!
10:48 GuShH I must be too used to the chinese crap they sell everywhere
10:48 Tom_itx they're rather industrial
10:48 GuShH 30 bucks a pop
10:49 GuShH maybe less if you get the whole lot.
10:49 Tom_itx if that's what you want
10:49 GuShH new ones cost considerably more.
10:49 GuShH Pffft what's that supposed to mean?
10:49 Tom_itx i got no use for 3 phase .5 hp motors
10:49 Tom_itx 50 hz
10:49 GuShH Ideally I would get 1HP ones
10:50 GuShH I do, for a project... like I said, with VFDs
10:50 Tom_itx even coolan't pumps are bigger usually
10:50 GuShH treadmill motors cost a lot more around here, and the controllers even more.
10:50 Tom_itx not if you find junk treadmills
10:50 GuShH not gonna happen
10:50 Tom_itx go to a workout place
10:50 Tom_itx ask em what they do with broken ones
10:50 GuShH nobody gives anything away around here
10:50 GuShH they get them rewound
10:51 GuShH I've went through all the options
10:51 Tom_itx no rich fuckers that just toss em out?
10:51 GuShH not that I know of.
10:51 GuShH rich fuckers just go to VIP gyms
10:52 GuShH Only issue I see with these motors is the mounting "bracket"
10:53 GuShH short shaft, not a lot of space.
10:53 GuShH I could just get new ones, I'm not the one paying anyway
10:58 Tom_itx you don't always get to pick buying used
10:59 Tom_itx got the new caps on my MB, just wish the new ones weren't so fat
10:59 Tom_itx not completely seated on the board due to space
11:38 GuShH Tom_itx: aren't you picky!
11:59 theBear Tom_itx, heh, we all been there, it's fine
15:25 dumbass-afk ok, i put ~ an inch of salt in a medium peanut butter jar, filled 3/4 with water, shook til the salt dissolved, put into the water some steel rod, aluminum wire and copper wire, connected with jumper clips, ~ an inch apart from each other,,, it's been 16 hours, and no rust or other corrosion
15:25 dumbass-afk what did i do wrong?
15:25 dumbass-afk does this mean i can build my robot with steel, alum, and copper chassis, and it won't ever corrode?
15:29 mbass-afk looks concerned about putting rustoleum out of busi
16:12 mbass-afk still wants to see a Transformers movie in which the robots talk really fast in Mickey Mouse voices, as if they had OC-48 modems instead of di
17:40 dumbass-afk All four potential landing sites are located on the equatorial plain on Mars called Elysium Planitia, a good site for solar power panels needed for the mission....using a probe that will hammer itself 12 to 15 feet deep ... shattering the delicate solar cells within 15 minutes
17:47 rue_house I'm sure that will come out in their earth tet runs
17:47 rue_house test
17:49 dumbass-afk http://www.torquenews.com/1075/tesla-motors-hiring-autonomous-driving-experts-hinting-future-robotesla
18:30 dumbass-afk TIL that if you do rapid stop-go-stop on a rug in a segway, the rug moves, and the segway gets real confused
18:31 MrCurious a confused segway sounds like a dangerous thing
21:29 rue_shop2 ok I have all the overload boards mounted to the hexapod
21:29 rue_shop2 but I found a faulty power cable, so its not all connected quite yet
21:29 rue_shop2 I have to go thru and reconnect all 18 axies
21:30 rue_shop2 and I dont have an overload controller yet, I suppose for now I can just put indicator lights and a reset button on it
21:30 rue_shop2 I have to see if all the current sensors work and map out all their anomolies
21:31 rue_shop2 I have them all set for 1A+-150mA
21:31 rue_shop2 and I still ahve to design and build the main power converter
21:32 rue_shop2 but its nice to see some progress after a few years
21:33 Tom_itx buddy?
21:35 MrCurious pictures rue_shop2
21:36 rue_shop2 yea
21:37 rue_shop2 it looks like a mess caues none of the legs cables are connected
21:39 MrCurious i can see?
21:44 dumbass-afk it's a huge beast
21:45 dumbass-afk if rue used more powerful motors, you could drop a regular saddle on it and ride around
21:45 MrCurious he may not have pictures of it up yet
21:45 dumbass-afk he did
21:45 dumbass-afk it's *mine* are all taken down
21:46 dumbass-afk shame too, i have new pics of the 7k plugins
21:49 Tom_itx http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/dscn0345.jpg

21:51 MrCurious i remember seeing this
21:51 MrCurious home made servos
21:51 dumbass-afk http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1010978.jpg
21:51 MrCurious looks big enough to put a saddle on
21:52 dumbass-afk rue is one of us who can carry around full diagrams, in 3D motion, and iron out the bugs, before building things that big
21:53 dumbass-afk http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1010971.jpg
21:56 rue_shop2 when I'm at the thrift store I cant help buying all the 5V smps wall warts
21:58 mbass-afk refuses to shop at the thrift stores, because while they will hire complete mental idiots, they will not hire anyone with a physical de
22:00 rue_shop2 teeheehee
22:00 dumbass-afk ?
22:00 rue_shop2 I seen some people at some jobs I wonder why they hired them int eh first place
22:00 rue_shop2 took new images
22:01 rue_shop2 I'll post in a bit
22:01 rue_shop2 trying to fiugre out what I was supposed to get done while I was working on buddy
22:01 rue_shop2 I'm pretty excited, I can hook a full +-24V 30A supply up to it now and now worry about blowing anything
22:02 dumbass-afk the robot arm was supposed to be placing chips and stuff while you worked on the other things
22:02 rue_shop2 the old supply was 1A and buddy couldn't quite stand without overloading
22:02 rue_shop2 indeed
22:02 rue_shop2 I didn't isntall the new castor bolts I got either
22:03 rue_shop2 most of my projects are comming down to coding
22:03 Tom_itx did you forget how by now?
22:03 rue_shop2 heh
22:03 dumbass-afk most of mine are coing down to "why bother?"
22:04 rue_shop2 my moods varry, sometimes I want to code, sometimes I want to solder, sometimes I just want to turn screws
22:04 rue_shop2 kat, I want to do more work on the isolated adc system for you still
22:04 mbass-afk
22:04 rue_shop2 I have a variety of code to do things
22:05 dumbass-afk i made a wonderful adaptable Tm500 plugin, and 2 vesions of 7k plugin, and just like going out to eat or to a movie, there's no one to show and get discussion with about
22:05 dumbass-afk so i dunno what i should do
22:06 rue_shop2 I still have the 7A18 for making a digital scope
22:06 rue_shop2 need to assemble a power supply for it
22:06 mbass-afk
22:06 rue_shop2 uses 70V amp bias or soemthing crazy iirc
22:07 dumbass-afk i figured a whopper of a 7k psu for plgins, using 3 laptop chargers and a few misc parts, and i can get *new* edge connectors for those plugins too
22:07 dumbass-afk +/- 50v, +/-15v, +5 vcc, variable +5 lights
22:08 rue_shop2 an edge connector is one of my problems, the connectors I have with the same pitch are too short
22:08 rue_shop2 iirc its an odd pitch
22:08 rue_shop2 .15"?
22:08 rue_shop2 or maybe thats the other ones
22:08 dumbass-afk it's the 5k scopes that use a 200v supply, but it's only like 2ma, and not all plugins use it, it's only for some NE2 bulbs
22:09 dumbass-afk the pitch is normal, the finger count isn't
22:09 rue_shop2 I have 5A18 / 5A15 in back shelf
22:09 dumbass-afk 2 ros, 76 count
22:10 dumbass-afk 5k scopes are more normal, i can get new edge connectors for those real cheap
22:10 rue_shop2 iirc, I bid on the 5k, bought the 7k, and then won the 5k
22:10 dumbass-afk tsk tsk
22:10 rue_shop2 but iirc the 7k is the one I want to use
22:11 rue_shop2 front end for an avrs adc :/
22:11 rue_shop2 for now
22:11 rue_shop2 I'm gradually building up code
22:12 dumbass-afk why use a 7a18 to feed an avr? i know where you can get 100Mhz adc cheap as an avr
22:13 rue_shop2 5A21 and 5B10 too
22:13 dumbass-afk 7A18 has a analog -3db point of at least 80Mhz
22:13 rue_shop2 I want it for the front end amps
22:14 rue_shop2 so I can do 5V -> 5mv
22:14 dumbass-afk shame to waste the speed tho, if you can sample it to a ram at 100's Mhz and then still play with the data on the avr
22:14 rue_shop2 I can upgrade later
22:15 rue_shop2 I should get you to make me a frame for it plus a slot and carrier I can put the avr on, with a power supply
22:15 dumbass-afk you can do more than 5v in, with a x10 probe you can do 50v/div onscreen, or display a +200v/-200v waveform
22:16 rue_shop2 (2 slots, 1 MT frame, with power supply)
22:16 rue_shop2 yea, I meant "/div"
22:16 dumbass-afk ah
22:16 rue_shop2 frame = module
22:16 rue_shop2 serial port on the back
22:16 rue_shop2 go 115200 baud!
22:17 mbass-afk wants to use 5A26 and 5A18 in a 7k scope, so the 7k can do the really fast timeslicing on all those chan
22:17 mbass-afk wonders if rue recalls she pointed him to a FREE 5k scope, just pay s&h o
22:17 rue_shop2 smaller!
22:18 rue_shop2 iirc it was a really wide frame
22:18 rue_shop2 because I'm going digital I want to keep it really small
22:18 dumbass-afk they are modular, you can detach the plugin bay from the display bay on the 5k
22:18 dumbass-afk 8" wide?
22:19 rue_shop2 a few months ago I was given a heathkit 10-4550
22:19 dumbass-afk k
22:19 rue_shop2 andI have two odl tube scopes around
22:19 dumbass-afk k
22:20 rue_shop2 I want to rebuild one, one day, or I did anyhow
22:21 rue_shop2 ok I'm gonna go finish weekend choars, eat supper, and procrastinate where there is less to do
22:39 rue_house ok I got the transformer driver out of the 5Kw UPS, see if I can find a problem on it
22:49 rue_house ok, kitty litter is done
22:49 rue_house clothes are gradually finding their homes
22:50 dumbass-afk can you find furrywolf ?
22:51 rue_house hmm no
22:52 rue_house !seen furrywolf
22:52 rue_house ?time
22:52 rue_house $time
22:53 rue_house #time
22:53 dumbass-afk he is online atm under a diff nick, i dunno what it is?
22:53 rue_house &time
22:55 mbass-afk discovered his otehr nick, but no clue where h
22:55 dumbass-afk there he is :-)
23:02 rue_house good show, I took pics and lost the camera
23:31 mbass-afk records a redneck-sized vehickle, stuffs a 15" woofer ina backpack with amplifier and small car battery, and sounds like a redneck-sized vehicle when hi
23:32 MrCurious the check engine light on my vehicle came on friday. today i noticecd its off. i was all happy about that until i thought the bulb may have burned out
23:33 dumbass-afk yeas,, replace it with led if you can
23:34 MrCurious i dont really think the indicator light has failed
23:34 MrCurious but until it comes on again, i wont know
23:37 dumbass-afk or the engine fails, to alert you of a burned out bulb
23:39 MrCurious true
23:39 MrCurious there is another light for service engine
23:40 dumbass-afk "zero ol pressure, engine failed and let you know it did so after it did"
23:40 MrCurious it burns oil
23:40 MrCurious i sty on top of oil levels
23:41 mbass-afk decides this is a losing thread and drops it on the floor, shoves under
23:43 MrCurious yup
23:56 rue_house hahah oops
23:56 rue_house the camera is still dialed up to 9mp
23:57 rue_house waaaaay too much detail...
23:57 dumbass-afk so you wil cut out the vowels or the consonants?
23:59 rue_house hmm
23:59 rue_house I;ll wait and see how many of everything I have at the end
23:59 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1050578.jpg
23:59 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_III/p1050579.jpg <-- these are the new overload boards
