00:07 rue_house mmm rockets
00:09 Faek ROCKETS!
01:34 MrCurious1 we have secretly replaced GuShH's spindle with a teddyBear. lets watch and see iif he notices
01:35 theBear when he does, it will already be too late ! MUHAHAHAHAAHA
02:16 rue_bed theBear, you have a lot of time on the computer latley?
02:17 rue_bed 8.5:1
02:20 theBear haven't had a single drip of alkyhol in err, about 106 hours now, so i'm sleeping even less than almost zero physical exhertion normally causes
02:20 rue_bed could you help me out, finding some matching parts on alibaba express
02:21 rue_bed I could forward you some funds for the search
02:23 rue_bed 6:1
02:23 rue_bed 1/4" -> 1"
02:24 rue_bed rue_mohr, remember to clean out the house gutters
03:25 kolaman hi all, is someone working on QC here ?
03:26 kolaman Actually I am doing some research in quantum computing and stuck at a point
03:27 Faek https://www.dropbox.com/s/at16x2907fwrdjb/Photo%2029-08-13%2017%2016%2032.jpg
03:27 Faek I did a quantum mechanics course last semester
03:27 Faek (not a single mention of quantum computing)
03:28 kolaman Faek: really !!
03:29 Faek Yeah, it was a lot of potential wells though
03:29 kolaman actually I am doing some research on taking an electrons exited/de-exited state as quantum state and using that for some really good stuff . . but not sure why my mind is jammed unable to think how to build a work flow
04:35 xp_prg2 I have a continous rotation servo SM-S3317SR and I am trying to hook it up to an arduino, but I don't know how to power it
04:42 Faek Magnets
04:59 RifRaf solar panels
08:49 fRaf kills zlog with a
08:54 ShH busts out the chai
08:54 GuShH darn it I can't source these bushings... nor the brass rod of a relatively close diameter, I need 35-40mm and the smallest I can get is 60-70mm but it won't be cheap
08:55 GuShH plus by how that shaft looks I might have to machine it, but I haven't setup the lathe yet... sigh
08:56 GuShH oddly enough one of the bushings is not brass or any other common material, it seems to be steel.. or iron... very strange, I thought it was graphite by the looks of it, but it's a ferrous material.
08:58 GuShH it could be cast iron graphited (because it does feel smooth like graphite, but it is ferrous)
08:58 GuShH very odd though, it's the one that ate through the shaft
09:02 RifRaf GuShH, it won't die. am trying
09:10 ShH shakes fist at c
09:10 Tom_itx poor GuShH
09:10 Tom_itx RifRaf you don't like zlog?
09:11 GuShH I only see one option and it involves machining after welding to the shaft, because of the missing material
09:11 rue_house GuShH, for sliders?
09:12 GuShH rue_house: http://gushh.net/tmp/dscn3974f.jpg
09:12 GuShH the black bushing was actually up front by the rubber seal, which failed, causing water to get in, yada yada.
09:13 GuShH ground off, the housing is nylon so the bushing was tilting
09:13 Tom_itx that looks like it lives in Au
09:13 Tom_itx all rusty n stuff
09:13 GuShH grease and water + spinning = nasty sludge
09:13 GuShH the smell reminds me of fishing
09:13 GuShH smells just like the inside of fishing reels
09:14 m_itx checks his w
09:14 m_itx le
09:14 GuShH anyway you can see the diameter has changed on the shaft itself!
09:14 GuShH buy replacement bushings, add material, machine down. or machine down, make new bushings. either way I need the lathe
09:15 GuShH Tom_itx: what's that 3 ball clutch called anyway, there's a camshaft up front and a spring inside the shaft to manually unlock the gearbox
09:17 rue_house http://www.aliexpress.com/item/free-shipping-Precision-Linear-Bearings-LB8UU-new-LM8UU/466713061.html
09:17 rue_house those are cheaper than 603's!
09:19 GuShH rue_house: and they're complete trash I bet
09:19 rue_house 10mm for you?
09:21 rue_house GuShH, whats the shaft size?
09:21 rue_house GuShH, ?
09:21 rue_house GuShH
09:22 rue_house GuShH !?
09:24 rue_house http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Oilless-bronze-plated-straight-bushings/1257007819.html
09:24 rue_house oooo
09:26 RifRaf 45 hrc seems ok, alot of cheap endmills are that, but the hrc 68 rods i got are tough indeed
09:26 GuShH rue_house: I don't have it here but it's around 2.5CM
09:27 GuShH let's say 1 inch
09:27 rue_house well I cant find anyhing for ya if you dont know exactly what your looking for
09:28 rue_house http://www.aliexpress.com/item/JFB8060-80x100x60mm-JFB-500SP-flanged-bronze-impregnated-graphite-oilless-bush-flange-solid-self-lubricant-embedded-bearing/675317657.html
09:28 GuShH I do know, I just don't have it here.
09:28 rue_house these things can go as sliders too, cool
09:28 GuShH I can tell you more or less what the bushings are right now
09:29 RifRaf more or less fuxored
09:29 rue_house can you give me, to 1/100mm the ID and OD
09:30 rue_house RifRaf, hows your new machine comming along?
09:30 GuShH RifRaf: when the parts are not in front of you I'd like you to measure them remotely with your mind
09:30 RifRaf its not, well some are, but the bearings for the threadless stuff apparently got sent back by post office on the 20th
09:30 GuShH rue_house: let's say 1.5CM width, inside diameter 2.5CM, outside diameter 3.2CM
09:31 rue_house http://reprap.org/wiki/Helium_Frog_Delta_Robot
09:31 RifRaf and they are being resent now according to the seller, pisses me off
09:31 rue_house rifraf, how come your not making one of those yet ^^
09:31 RifRaf trying to get new job
09:32 RifRaf oh no its logged now, i am doomed
09:32 rue_house something go wrong????
09:33 rue_house hmm thats a nice buil
09:33 RifRaf well too old for that shit, gonna be in solar soon if thing turn out
09:35 RifRaf seen quite a few nice builds of late, none seem to be quite as robust as the i3 though, am sticking with its basic concept
09:35 rue_house http://3dprintingindustry.com/2013/07/30/3dr-reprap-delta-printer-release/
09:35 rue_house someone nailed colour
09:36 RifRaf richrap is right up there
09:37 RifRaf i don't feel the need for a delta yet, in a year or so should be many multi colour things about, nut i am happy with what i have, gonna make some robot stuff again soon
09:38 RifRaf and let the others work it all out, but i must sleep, or will be an even worse day tomorrow
09:38 RifRaf today
09:38 rue_house neat to know what computers were like in the early 70's
09:39 RifRaf arn't you still there rue? :P
09:39 rue_house reprap is just like computers in the 70's
09:40 rue_house history repeating
09:40 RifRaf yep
09:40 RifRaf but at least more interesting than pixelated graphic
09:40 rue_house imagine being all excited about 2k ram chips being out, and the thought of upgrading
09:41 GuShH 70s? ram by the truckload.
09:42 RifRaf my latest waste of filament, am sure GuShH agrees http://imagebin.org/268991
09:42 RifRaf 21 meters for an object
09:42 GuShH what's that from?
09:42 RifRaf is the huntress
09:42 ShH looks i
09:43 GuShH comics related?
09:43 RifRaf found it at famtasygraph
09:43 RifRaf fantasy*
09:43 GuShH I'm not much of a comics guy...
09:43 GuShH don't care for all of that.
09:43 RifRaf i showed some ppl at work and they recognised, is just a big print to me
09:44 RifRaf to use up the crappy white abs i have learned to hate
09:44 GuShH you shall be known by your coworkers as the "3d figurine guy"
09:44 GuShH "who also owns a barbie"
09:45 GuShH hey if it's crap material at least you're giving it some use
09:45 rue_house gtg work!
09:45 RifRaf and drives around with printed barbies
09:46 GuShH maybe I should put this gearbox back together and hope it lasts long enough until I can source the brass rod and have the lathe all setup
09:46 RifRaf its funny that i goto work and grab a few printed dolls as i walk out the door
09:46 GuShH there's so much play it just got on a bind though, hence why I took it apart
09:46 GuShH I should at least find a new rubber seal for it
09:46 RifRaf or maybe i am just normal, who would know
09:47 GuShH you should know!
09:48 RifRaf GuShH, if you don't turn something on your lathe by monday i will think you are a poser
09:48 GuShH RifRaf: I go as fast as I can with that stand...
09:49 GuShH didn't you read the latest news? the bondo I used is expired, it's not curing.
09:49 RifRaf i used to just have a hole drilled in my table with the bolt sticking through and not even done up, it would rock about but i could still make parts
09:49 GuShH Tom_itx was right, it won't cure no matter how long I wait.
09:49 GuShH yeah but I'm not you
09:49 RifRaf no more excuses
09:49 GuShH and I know iron can flex.
09:49 GuShH it's not an excuse, I have medical issues.
09:50 GuShH the hell man.
09:50 RifRaf lol
09:50 RifRaf i spend my day an inch away from 24k rpm and a chuck that would go through my head if it let loose, but not gonna wait for that day
09:51 GuShH how is that relevant to cronic back pain?
09:51 GuShH sorry, chronic.
09:51 RifRaf dude you try lifting about a tonne day, my back pains too, and think i have herbies growing in all sorts of places
09:52 RifRaf hernias
09:52 GuShH but you had your green lady plant to help ya
09:52 GuShH or still have, I don't know what you smoke.
09:52 RifRaf not anymore, i think thats why i woke up
09:52 GuShH I don't take anything whatsoever, mainly because the muscle relaxants can't help anymore
09:52 GuShH and the dose required would put me in bed.
09:53 GuShH even if the stand was finished, I still need help moving all the stuff out of the garage so I can figure out where to put the lathe, what to do with the remaining stuff, etc.
09:54 GuShH and I can lift the bed with the headstock just fine, it's about 80-90KG I assume, problem is what happens after that, the day after for instance.
09:54 GuShH used to lift weights every day no problem
09:54 RifRaf ok, lets have a race, ima get my lathe this weekend and get it back here, i know i have said that for weeks but am gonna do it this time
09:54 GuShH but I don't say it
09:54 GuShH I just said I'm making a stand for the lathe...
09:55 GuShH didn't say when I would finish
09:55 RifRaf weeks ago. they don't need a stand, they weight enough to hold themselves down unless you are turning a flywheel or something
09:56 GuShH I don't have any suitable work surface to put it on either.
09:56 RifRaf what did you get it for?
09:56 GuShH Wanted it upstairs, couldn't get help for that.
09:56 GuShH a project.
09:56 GuShH with no silly deadlines.
09:56 GuShH why don't you ask MrCurious why did he buy a mill if all he does is use it as a drill press?
09:57 GuShH and also, with this economy and devaluation and lack of imports prices go up every day, so I bought it early on.
09:57 GuShH still, assume it's all setup.
09:58 RifRaf k, print done, time to put another one on and sleep. looks like useable X carriage
09:58 GuShH I tried to source brass rod yesterday, couldn't find any suppliers -- only one, didn't have small diameters, prices were high and he was far away.
09:58 GuShH plus the shaft is damaged, requires welding and machining.
09:59 RifRaf hrm i have a few decent brass rods in the carport, upto about 20mm, want me to make you one?
10:00 GuShH outside diameter is 3.2CM after machining
10:00 GuShH 3.25 for a press fit
10:00 RifRaf damn, that won't fit through the through hole,
10:00 GuShH smallest rod they had was 70mm, but they're on the other side of the country.
10:01 GuShH and that's a lot of waste, a lot of time, etc.
10:01 GuShH I don't even think the steadies can accomodate it
10:01 GuShH maybe, not sure.
10:01 GuShH you can't pass it through it has to be chucked or between centers with a drag dog
10:02 GuShH (ideal) otherwise with a steady
10:02 GuShH ....unless you own a monster lathe heh
10:03 RifRaf have done some 80mm rods in mine, got some from hydraulics place, man the blue hot chips were amazing
10:03 GuShH sadly I can't use steel for those bushings
10:04 RifRaf yep, but amazing what you can work in a small lathe if you have the time and paitience
10:04 RifRaf i don't think it did it much good though
10:04 GuShH you could turn even bigger stuff if you had a dc motor
10:05 RifRaf ah yep, have had some 200mm flywheel in there, cannot do much bigger in mine though
10:05 GuShH bring those SFM down...
10:05 GuShH err, RPM
10:06 RifRaf yep, i want a lathe back :(
10:06 RifRaf just need some small couplers from the brass rod right now
10:07 RifRaf printed couplers are not doing it accurate enough
10:07 GuShH heh
10:08 GuShH oh why then you should put your lathe back together, in the bathtub
10:08 GuShH turn while you churn
10:08 RifRaf would be happy with it in the loungeroom, the bathroom sounds dangerous
10:11 RifRaf don't think the landlady would agree tough, so will have to live in carport, is enough with drillpress and vices everywhere in here
10:12 RifRaf i did put a smoke detector on printer tonight though, and seems to be happy with the abs fumes, will test with abs fire on weekend to be sure
10:13 RifRaf am a bit paranoid leving it unattended all day printing, so leave house unlocked with detector and exthinguished next to it, hopefully someone will hear it
10:13 RifRaf talk to you later GuShH, its way past my bedtime
10:15 RifRaf theBear should be awake soon
10:21 theBear soon ? it's been a big day !
10:23 theBear after about 106 or 108 hours without even a drip of liquor, i had to have a beer with bacon and eggs and funsize tomatoes for breakfast on payday today, and i could take or leave (for now) the other 29 ice cold in the fridge, a combination of mania, highschool kids buzz (cadbury kid... just a glass and a half...) and err, having a few cigarettes in the house, well lets just say i dind't have an afterno
10:23 theBear on (thru till well after dark) nap today :)
10:23 theBear lotta coffee tho, there's no denying that !
10:23 theBear went out REAL early for smokes too, feels kinda like going to work being 'on the street' that time of day, everyone rushing and with purpose, and a lady walking actually smiled and said goodmorning to me ! that doesn't happen at dusk time !
10:24 theBear so yeah, lotta smokes, lotta coffee, still only 1 beer :)
10:50 Tom_itx RifRaf, been there...
10:50 Tom_itx used to run several tons a shift
10:50 Tom_itx probably 3-5 dumpsters of shavings a shift
11:41 -sendak.freenode.net:#robotics- [freenode-info] why register and identify? your IRC nick is how people know you. http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#nicksetup
12:02 GuShH RifRaf: just for lulz I got a quote from a "machinist" he wanted 100 usd for the two bushings, and he wouldn't do any work on the shaft as that would be "extra" - hah!
12:02 uehuehue hah
12:03 GuShH I think I can buy a few kilograms of brass with that kind of money, make the bushings and with the remaining I could machine a massive dildo so he can sit on it.
12:03 uehuehue lel
12:03 hueh
12:05 Tom_itx waste of aluminumbronze
12:06 GuShH it's not a waste if I use a cannon to shove it in.
12:06 GuShH some things don't make sense in this country, at all.
12:07 Tom_itx he's gotta pay for his time and machine time
12:07 Tom_itx for a one off custom part
12:08 GuShH he's smoking pot.
12:08 uehuehue What is everyone working on lately?
12:08 GuShH charges just as much if not more for big runs of parts
12:08 Tom_itx probalby helps pay for that as well
12:08 GuShH some people want to "save themselves" by doing a few jigs a month instead of working hard like the rest.
12:08 GuShH and to do that they have to rip off others.
12:09 GuShH they assume everyone is a dumbass.
12:09 GuShH take advantage.
12:10 GuShH Tom_itx: most of these clowns have no proper education, there's no way they should be earning more than a surgeon or an engineer, but it happens here.
12:10 GuShH as do the druggies of course, but that's different.
12:11 GuShH we actually have a shortage of nurses because it doesn't pay as well as other, less educated jobs.
12:12 GuShH and it doesn't make sense. we have a shortage of anesthetists as well but only because they want to earn in gold and in some cases they've been known to earn more than the surgeons here.
12:12 GuShH again, doesn't - make - sense.
12:28 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/temp/sign.jpg
12:35 Tom_itx GuShH, my friend made me 2 of these for free: http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/temp/thread1.jpg
12:35 Tom_itx ~1.25" 3 tpi
12:36 GuShH Tom_itx: so why is diesel more expensive over there? or was it just a way to close up the joke
12:36 Tom_itx it just is
12:37 GuShH I don't have any friends capable of machining anything.
12:37 Tom_itx you need new friends
12:37 GuShH ok regular diesel costs less than your "plus" equivalent gasoline, but premium diesel costs almost as much as the "supreme"
12:37 GuShH which is what they recommend on tdi and better diesels
12:37 GuShH lower sulphur they say
12:38 GuShH less fouling of the injectors in theory
12:38 GuShH Tom_itx: so what are those parts for?
12:39 GuShH seems similar thread to my lathe headstock, except the diameter is bigger
12:39 GuShH about 3tpi
12:40 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/temp/thread.jpg
12:40 GuShH to be fair alu stock of that diameter isn't terribly expensive and friends being friends, shouldn't charge for the time!
12:40 Tom_itx to replace that
12:40 GuShH I'm still not sure what is that.
12:41 GuShH will it have a press fit?
12:41 Tom_itx it holds this on: http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/temp/Pic_1010_001.jpg
12:42 Tom_itx no, i put 2 setscrews in the side
12:42 Tom_itx so it could be adjusted
12:42 Tom_itx it was a 'tight' but not press fit
12:42 GuShH nice leg
12:43 GuShH see, that involved a lot of work
12:43 Tom_itx it was brought here in a covered wagon
12:43 GuShH not like the guy turning two bushings.
12:43 Tom_itx brazilian walnut
12:43 GuShH countless hours with gouges and chisels
12:44 GuShH the scroll alone takes some time, like on violins. these days they just CNC the heck out of everything
12:44 Tom_itx the last guy that fixed it, got the legs crooked
12:44 Tom_itx so when it was tight it would be crooked
12:45 GuShH I got a less fancy wardrobe but it had the same problem, well actually one of the legs was snapped off -- it happened when they tried to move it
12:45 Tom_itx so he put shims above it to make it straight and that just didn't work so well
12:45 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/temp/Pic_1010_004.jpg
12:46 GuShH got it for pennies and it's worth a small chunk of change these days, so good stuff.
12:46 Tom_itx from the upper 'band' to the bottom of it is solid wood
12:46 GuShH don't ask me on the particulars of the woods used as I wasn't paying attention when they told me.
12:46 GuShH it's all solid though
12:46 GuShH again, something you hardly see unless it's just pine, which I can't stand.
12:48 GuShH Tom_itx: so is the body one piece or does it come apart in sections?
12:48 Tom_itx one piece
12:49 GuShH I'll take that over 1000 ikea furniture
12:50 GuShH won't say 10.000 as you could make a profit maybe reselling them to gun enthusiasts, after painting a target on them.
12:51 GuShH or a picture of justin beiber for a few extra bucks.
14:42 KongfuPanda WAAAZZZZAAAA??
14:43 uehuehue WAAAZZZZAAAA!
14:43 KongfuPanda GuShH, hey 〜( ̄▽ ̄〜)
14:43 KongfuPanda uehuehue, hey, what kind of robot do you have?
14:43 uehuehue I don't. ;_;
14:53 uehuehue Will check in a sec
14:53 MrCurious what kind of robot re you wanting to make?
14:55 KongfuPanda interestingly my noob tutorials on AVR have been viewed by thousands of people :D where is the actual robot was viewed 700 times
14:55 KongfuPanda the software I mean
14:56 uehuehue Not bad
14:57 MrCurious uehuehue: what kind of robot are you wanting?
14:57 uehuehue Spider
14:57 MrCurious http://www.dhgate.com/product/dhgate/153877963.html?utm_source=pla&utm_medium=GMC&utm_campaign=fmt-model&utm_term=153877963&f=bm%7c153877963%7c102014-RemoteControlLine%7cGMC%7cAdwords%7cpla%7cfmt-model%7cUS%7c102014011-RCEngines-Parts-Accessories%7cc%7c&gclid=CNWI5ZGwgLkCFWNxQgodhnAA9Q
14:58 MrCurious insead of cheap flimsey servo's do it right first time
14:58 MrCurious also get a pololu 24 servo driver board $50
14:59 MrCurious you can always reconfigure it into a bi-ped bot
14:59 MrCurious can always start with 1 or 2 legs
14:59 MrCurious add legs as you get $
15:00 MrCurious man. i totally sucked the air out of here...
15:00 KongfuPanda MrCurious, is that a micro servo?
15:00 MrCurious no
15:00 MrCurious like mg90
15:00 KongfuPanda MrCurious, I'm upgrading to metal servos MG90. From plastic S90 or something
15:00 KongfuPanda they are much better I think
15:01 MrCurious plastic fail for me when i manually work the joint
15:01 MrCurious metal resist failure better
15:02 MrCurious i have 4 already from ebay, and waiting for 4 more from dhgate
15:02 MrCurious then i can make a 2 leg spider
15:02 MrCurious that rags itself
15:02 KongfuPanda MrCurious, the ones you linked?
15:03 MrCurious yes. i ordered 4 of them
15:03 MrCurious and got 4 similar off ebay
15:03 MrCurious before i found this good price
15:03 KongfuPanda MrCurious, which microcontroller are you using?
15:03 MrCurious note. you will need to source screws to mount seperately
15:03 MrCurious pololu 24 servo controler
15:06 KongfuPanda MrCurious, is it a servo driver or a microcontroller + driver?
15:11 MrCurious servo driver
15:11 MrCurious made from a micro controler
15:11 MrCurious you can program multiple gaits into it
15:11 MrCurious ir commmand it via usb/serial
15:13 KongfuPanda MrCurious, wow, I was just watching their youtube video. Looks great. And I had to program the microcontroller ! I spend a tonne of time for that
15:13 MrCurious :)
15:14 KongfuPanda I got "AXON 2" from society of robots. It's a microcontroller with 21 servo connections I think. BUt also 12 ADC , 2 uarts, 1 marquee, and 1 usb for control/re-programming (via bootloader)
15:15 MrCurious sounds nice
15:16 KongfuPanda well, I don't think the servo control is that great. A lot of jitter and bugs. After a few months (in my spare time) I managed to get it to work ok-ish
15:16 MrCurious switch to the pololu one?
15:18 GargantuaSauce fwiw i rolled my own with just a few shift registers and it works great
15:19 MrCurious using a PWM driver chip for LED's?

15:19 madmaxx YouTube Title: servos Views: 55 Length: 0:20 User: P3374H
15:19 GargantuaSauce no but that is probably also a super viable option
15:19 MrCurious i suppose it really comes down to how much you love that $50 vs how much you love futzing with things
15:20 GargantuaSauce i guess
15:20 GargantuaSauce BOM on that board is maybe $5
15:21 MrCurious is there a rule that says all robot videos have to have bad music :P
15:21 GargantuaSauce yes
15:21 GargantuaSauce also it's not bad music fuck you
15:21 MrCurious lololol
15:22 MrCurious i really liked that style of music when i was 16
15:24 MrCurious GargantuaSauce: did you open source that design?
15:24 MrCurious release eagle files for it?
15:24 GargantuaSauce i never made a schematic
15:24 GargantuaSauce it's literally just four shift registers in a row
15:24 MrCurious you rob the world...
15:24 GargantuaSauce with a couple linear regulators for 3 and 5v
15:25 MrCurious easy for you... hot for others???
15:25 MrCurious but
15:25 GargantuaSauce there really is nothing to it
15:26 MrCurious then it should be easy to document? :P
15:26 GargantuaSauce yes it would be
15:28 MrCurious and it would look slick on your web site...
15:28 GargantuaSauce perhaps i will if i ever bother to work with some EDA software
15:29 GargantuaSauce i have bigger fish to fry though
15:29 MrCurious go on
15:30 GargantuaSauce i wrote a very basic simulation for the hexapod with IK and a few different gaits
15:30 KongfuPanda GargantuaSauce, nice, you must know electronics well :D I can't make something like that. Although I did some electronics at university, I never paid attention (I'm a Physicist)
15:30 GargantuaSauce i really don't know much about electronics
15:30 GargantuaSauce i am a software guy by trade
15:30 GargantuaSauce digital stuff is pretty straightforward though
15:32 KongfuPanda GargantuaSauce, cool cool. I'm more software too, but I'm still in research (doing a PhD), in a completely different area. Synthesis of nanomaterials with gases. I automated one system in the lab, and made a hexapod robot :)
15:32 KongfuPanda oh
15:33 KongfuPanda I should upload a video of my system
15:33 KongfuPanda yeah?
15:33 GargantuaSauce that goes without saying
15:33 GargantuaSauce will check it out later though, gotta bounce
15:33 KongfuPanda cya
15:35 KongfuPanda bah, 95 Mb
15:36 KongfuPanda at 1080p video, probably need to convert
15:38 KongfuPanda GuShH, you there?
16:54 MrCurious i am not buying into that method
16:54 KongfuPanda why not?
16:54 MrCurious beacuse if you have a good enough power sourcec, the voltage wont sag
16:55 KongfuPanda MrCurious, the resistor is in series with the servo.
16:55 KongfuPanda of course it will sag
16:56 MrCurious need to see a circuit to visualize this
16:58 KongfuPanda MrCurious, visualize 3 servo wires, one of them is ground. CUT IT. Insert a resistor. One side of the resistor is GND, the other will now make a tiny voltage, 1-100mV, since V = IR. R is constant, so V is not really measuring I. This can be connected to ADC. My ADC can pick up 5mV - 5000 mV. So, it's reasonable
16:59 KongfuPanda MrCurious, these are actual measurement from my ADC: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26776513/SERVO_LOAD.jpg
17:00 KongfuPanda not = now*
17:07 MrCurious ok
17:07 GargantuaSauce yeah standard shunt current measurement technique
17:08 GargantuaSauce not a huge fan of that method because either you need to waste a pretty significant amount of energy in the shunt or use a shunt small enough that the voltage across it needs to be amplified before the adc can measure it
17:10 KongfuPanda GargantuaSauce, I drop 5mV out of 5V
17:10 KongfuPanda and I do not amplify it
17:10 KongfuPanda it works well
17:11 GargantuaSauce cool
17:11 GargantuaSauce what i really REALLY want is nice servos with an interface that can report current and present position
17:11 GargantuaSauce but those are stupidly expensive
17:11 KongfuPanda I'm actually surprised how well it worked with my setup
17:14 MrCurious uhm
17:14 MrCurious cant you just tap the variable resistor in the servo?
17:14 MrCurious wouldnt that give up the current position?
17:15 KongfuPanda but thaat's not what I'm doing :D
17:15 MrCurious no that was to GargantuaSauce
17:15 GargantuaSauce yes, i could do that and have external shunts to get both of those things
17:15 MrCurious he wanted position feedback
17:15 GargantuaSauce but then the servo stops being self contained
17:16 GargantuaSauce i want a serial bus and power going to each of them and nothing else
17:16 MrCurious if your going to do that... use a attiny85 to communiate via i2c, get those 2 readings, and drive the servo with pwwm
17:16 GargantuaSauce but in order to achieve that i need to buy $50 servos
17:16 MrCurious have a smart i2c servo :)
17:16 GargantuaSauce or roll my own servo controller and cram it in the housing
17:22 MrCurious there was some open servo or open stepper project i thought
17:22 MrCurious that did just that
17:25 MrCurious is it that time already? :)
17:25 GargantuaSauce yeah and it's $20
17:25 MrCurious link?
17:25 GargantuaSauce i dont have one handy
17:25 MrCurious k
17:26 MrCurious http://openservo.com/
17:27 MrCurious $14 ea for v2 from spark fun
17:30 GargantuaSauce okay so they made it a little less ridiculous now
17:31 GargantuaSauce still quintuples the cost of my servos
17:44 MrCurious yup
17:44 MrCurious unless you order your own boards and solder them
17:45 MrCurious http://hackedgadgets.com/2008/11/19/open-stepper-project/
20:19 rue_house armyofevilrobots,
20:19 Tom_itx damn power outtages
20:19 rue_house Tom_itx, wondered why you were joining back in at 4pm
20:20 Tom_itx what heater connection?
20:20 Tom_itx it's been flakey today
20:20 rue_house armyofevilrobots, had a connection melt down on him during a show
20:20 Tom_itx then finally went out
20:20 rue_house ITS THE RAIN
20:20 Tom_itx no rain
20:20 Tom_itx heat
20:24 Tom_itx who is that?
20:24 rue_house guy in town here
20:24 rue_house maker!
20:24 rue_house :)
20:24 Tom_itx what's up with rif gettin another job?
20:25 rue_house rif does that
20:25 Tom_itx he seemed pretty happy at the cnc place
20:25 rue_house yea
20:25 Tom_itx was gettin extra stuff done n all..
20:26 rue_house the prolly got frustrated and told them to go stuff it
20:26 Tom_itx seemed like a good place to stay a while
20:26 rue_house rifraf dosn't "a while"
20:26 Tom_itx yeah i know
20:26 rue_house just as much in person
20:34 rue_house Triffid_Hunter, you alive latley?
20:35 armyofevilrobots rue_house: I didn't bother fixing the heater; it's in storage while I move this week.
20:35 rue_house oh dear
20:35 rue_house lots of stuff?
20:36 rue_house I was gonna suggest we introduce each others shops, sounds like I should put that on hold
20:37 armyofevilrobots Yea, for a week anyhow.
20:37 armyofevilrobots My shop isn't even under construction yet :O
20:38 rue_house I thought it was an existing shoop you were overhauling?
20:39 rue_house well if you need space to fix things, we can make some here, for a few hrs at a time anyhow
20:42 rue_house armyofevilrobots, I finally signed up on the website
20:42 armyofevilrobots Oh, the coast makers one?
20:42 rue_house armyofevilrobots, I realized I dont have a webpage regarding the kids program, so I'll work on making one up
20:42 rue_house yep
20:42 armyofevilrobots cool
20:43 rue_house I'd also suggest adding GBS to the suppliers list
20:43 rue_house and some of the welding shops
20:44 rue_house envoldson, whatshisname, whatshisface, and that guy in wilson creek... sechelt iron... I think...
20:44 rue_house the sheet metal guys in gibsons have a plasma cutter
20:44 armyofevilrobots Yeah, I need to find a welding gas supplier for some time in the new year.
20:44 Tom_itx my iron guy let me down today
20:45 Tom_itx looking for expanded metal and he didn't have any scrap, just new sheets
20:45 armyofevilrobots and welding rod/steel
20:45 rue_house armyofevilrobots, ah, I have an account with sechelt iron, its off field rd..
20:45 armyofevilrobots Yeah? They pretty good?
20:46 rue_house yup
20:46 rue_house ... can I put a pin on a google map?
20:46 armyofevilrobots Dunno.
20:46 armyofevilrobots I have barely used that page.
20:47 GuShH rue_house: http://gushh.net/tmp/rue.png
20:47 armyofevilrobots Ah, that's the place I was gonna check out. Right across from the hydroponics supplier.
20:48 GuShH you can pin anything but you need to be logged in
20:48 GuShH and then you can make it public or private.
20:52 rue_house armyofevilrobots, https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zrrDMDp_b04c.kejsSNQWZuIw
20:52 rue_house that might work
20:54 rue_house armyofevilrobots ?
20:56 Tom_itx that's not you
20:57 rue_house no thats sechelt iron, I lease my welding tanks from them
20:57 rue_house $100/yr :/
20:57 rue_house I took in the tank I'v had for 3 yrs with 2% oxygen left
20:57 Tom_itx what's the 'just rue it' page for?
20:58 rue_house hu?
20:58 Tom_itx http://gushh.net/tmp/rue.png
20:58 rue_house gush.net eh?
20:58 rue_house GuShH, .....
20:59 GuShH Tom_itx: I say rue shall become a verb as well.
20:59 rue_house .....
20:59 MrCurious you totally GuShH'd that one
20:59 GuShH similar in meaning to the word "kludge" but with none of the negative connotations
21:00 rue_house I'm gonna go do things, bbl
21:00 GuShH haha
21:00 GuShH bah you guys are no fun!
21:40 rue_house theBear, you up?
21:51 theBear olly would go
21:51 theBear yeah, i think so
21:52 theBear are you down, br-uth-ah ?
21:52 rue_house would you like to help me find some parts?
21:52 theBear depends, are we talking sorted thru the vacuum bag find, or err, scavenger hunt for thanksgiving ?
21:52 rue_house ablibaba express, I need someone to work out a gearbelt set for me
21:53 rue_house its a bunch of work, but I'll pay ya
21:53 rue_house shall I say more?
21:54 rue_house is paypal money of use to ya?
22:08 theBear huh ?? a toolbelt ?
22:09 theBear like with a hammer thing and real leather pockets and stuff ?
22:09 theBear i'm confused
22:09 theBear thismorning is not a good one for comprehension skills
22:09 theBear and you foreigners all take crazy anyway
22:10 rue_house no I need a syncrobelt for a vacuum motor
22:10 theBear or you wanna launch a few thousand sprockets into low orbit around a small planet ? :) gear-belt
22:11 rue_house not quite
22:11 theBear now i'm really confused, oh, i can imagine what that means :)
22:11 rue_house I need to find a matching sprocket/belt set
22:11 theBear moving the stove and the fridge for me to mop behind would be useful to me :)
22:11 theBear you should call mr spacely
22:11 rue_house for a set of shafts, for a particular ratio range
22:12 theBear are you turning a common household vacuum cleaner into a turbo overdrive for a robot ?
22:12 rue_house is there a way for me to pay ya for doing it?
22:12 rue_house nope I ahve a yard tool I want to run on a vacuum motor instead of a 1/2hp induction motor
22:12 theBear seriously, i had a couple of beers last night after a break, i don't know what's going on today
22:13 rue_house it dosnt' have to be today
22:13 rue_house I think its a few hours of stuffing around trying to match parts up
22:13 theBear this sounds like i need to be able to comprehend concepts and remember the outcome, so remind/ask me tomorrow probly :) hours ? that almost sounds like work <grin>
22:14 theBear i'm gonna try and stay casual and aloof and just have a couple of beers SOME nights or for special occasions, i'm optimistic the one carton of cans i got last night will outlast the pay fortnight !
22:14 theBear unprecedented in modern times !
22:14 rue_house if you can find a set of parts, I have two other projects in the pipe
22:15 theBear lol, pipeline you crazy foreigner, stop confusing me by using the wrong words for stuff :)
22:15 theBear or on the backburner sometimes
22:15 rue_house I have 3 projects doing almost the same thing
22:16 theBear at my first repair/apprentice learny quick guy job, if the other tech said that without turning around when a customer came in to ask about their no-news-yet repair, it wasn't happening in a hurry :)
22:16 rue_house a) convert the yard tool from 1/2hp induction to vacuum motor, b) convert the lawn tractor from 6hp gas to 3 vacuum motors, c) convert the gas truck from 110hp engine to 35 vacuum cleaner motors
22:17 theBear he was scottish, so hard and drunken and excitable, but he just couldn't bear to look at them while he was basically saying 'oooh, that's a curly one, i gonna have to set aside a few straight hours, and i just can't manage that right now, it may be some time :('
22:17 rue_house for each project the shafts and ratios are different
22:18 theBear he taught me well, tho he was strict !
22:18 rue_house ok say when, I'm not making any progress on it
22:18 theBear yeah, i'm reminiscing, not reading sorry :)
22:18 rue_house I'll give ya all the details, its webbrowser work
22:18 theBear what's a lawn tractor ?
22:18 theBear what do they do ?
22:18 rue_house it was a ride-on mower, but its lost its mowerness
22:19 rue_house I use it to pull stuff around the yard
22:19 theBear ahh, the robots sent back a terminator to stop it succeeding, of course
22:19 Tom_itx oh gawd. rue's gone electric on us
22:19 theBear next he'll be eating beans and granola
22:20 theBear and not even the good kinda beans !
22:20 theBear stupid lentils mostly
22:20 rue_house the tool with the 1/2hp induction runs at 1750rpm, the lawn tractor at 3000 rpm, and I think the truck is about 3000, but I'm not 100% yet
22:21 theBear you'll walk upon him and a tree in a quiet part of the forest, and it's all <cough clear throat stretch arms> nothing to see here, and the tree is just standing there, all silent, every time . . . . .
22:21 theBear does beer effect everyone this strongly when they don't have any for a few days ?
22:21 theBear it's like being a schoolkid again
22:21 Tom_itx heh
22:21 rue_house theBear, I know you have the internet time, just a hunch, but I assume your happy to recieve extra funds
22:30 theBear you're <grin> yeah, when i'm fit for work i generally try to somehow gain more food or something useful in exchange for things that are helpful, soldering phone usb jacks, hard resets and network unlocks etc etc :)
22:30 theBear so i certainly get the jist, of what you are saying
22:31 rue_house ok
22:31 theBear but itwill take sleep to truly grasp the nuances, like what you are talking about, and i still don't know exactlywhat a tractor does :)
22:31 rue_house do they do "buy food online and pay via credit card and have delivered" over there?
22:32 rue_house or "buy online, pickup at store"?
22:33 theBear should probably make breakfast, but i'm holding off trying to favour the car-owner with a meal in exchange for a short borrow, to get the things missed due to lack of liquidised funds immediately optionable, ie, cash literally in the pocket, like i dunno, more cream, maybe err, ahh, toilet paper for later, just the little things i didn't get in my shopping epic adventure yesterday morning
22:33 theBear i don't get out much, the little shopping centre up the road is a big day out
22:34 theBear and the fun-size tomatoes are in artifical season again this week, which is awesome
22:34 rue_house you ahve a bank account?
22:34 theBear i have 3 ! and 2 cards !
22:34 rue_house I wonder if I can deposit directly to your account
22:35 rue_house visa?
22:35 theBear they look the same, and only differ a few numbers, it's tricky to remember which is which and which pin to use :(
22:35 theBear but i haven't done anything yet except ranted at you like a very lightly drunk person
22:35 rue_house oops I sot my login info..
22:36 rue_house yellow postit...
22:36 rue_house aha
22:36 theBear you accidentally the login ?
23:23 armyofevilrobots rue_house: Sorry, went and did a move.
23:25 theBear poppin' and lockin' with your brothers in the street down the block ?
23:26 theBear serving some white bread small town college fools, think they can bust a move ?
23:26 theBear and all like it was no thang
23:26 theBear wait, what was the question ?
23:27 theBear orright, one more bribe attempt, if still no bite i'm making double bacon and eggs JUST FOR ME ! i swear i'll do it !
23:30 theBear just got a call from my old work buddy the landlord.... had a good chat... time for a new lease when they do the inspection, slight rent increase, and i just noticed, we probly chatted for 15 minutes, about many subjects, but neglected to actually say "so yes, let's go another round on the lease, 1, maybe 2 years ?", but that's cool, he knows i'm not going anywhere in a hurry, and it's a small and reas
23:30 theBear onable increase.... it's cheap and nearly flat rate over the years in exchange for being well behaved tennants and not demanding a tradesperson if a hinge has a loose screw in the kitchen :)
23:30 MrCurious poppinn and lockin
23:30 theBear the taps leak less than when i moved in to begin wiht :)
23:31 MrCurious your making him rich
23:31 theBear hmm, after getting shortterm-re-aqquainted over the friendly chat, i shoulda casually asked to borrow his vax fancy wet vac to liven up the 'hall'/high traffic areas... but dull after a few years of everyday, getting, used, for walking on :)
23:34 MrCurious a new coat of paint would be nice
23:34 theBear nah, he's worked long and hard to own a couple little rentals for his retirement (he still does a day a fortnight at my old work now, and he's heading for 70 !) ex lift technician of MANY years etc etc... he's good, it's by a clear 50bucks the cheapest you'll find in metro area, even without a 'spare room', and i don't like change, and even a 1st homebuyers grant/assistance and a good capital at the ss
23:34 theBear tart and guaranteed ongoing income, you can't buy a shitty flat or a villa for less than almost double the weekly outlay
23:35 theBear i dunno, it's like mechanics always have the cars most in need of maintenance, i used to paint, i'm not too worried unless it's a protect/longevity actual real gain
23:37 theBear and it's comfy, nice gentle neutral colours in the bedrooms, subtle yet attractive wallpaper in the lounge, already 'ruined' by the back of a couch over many years and an idiot before me, so i put a chair in front of that tear, and i get wallpaper but don't have to be nervous about leaning my dirty pushbike on it :)
23:37 theBear it's a nice quiet suburb, mostly friendly neighbors and the same mostly over several years, good lines for adsl speed, err, lace curtains AND real curtains !
23:38 theBear need i go on ?
23:38 theBear THREE sinks ! count them ! that's 6 taps for the sinks alone !
23:38 theBear err, basin ?
23:38 theBear either way, they contain 6 taps !
23:38 MrCurious thats a lot of water capacity
23:38 theBear that's a bargain no matter how many times you slice it
23:39 MrCurious i imagine 1 tap outsidde too!
23:39 MrCurious 7 taps in total!
23:39 theBear well, i'm not sure you'd use them all at once, the whole system might go critical or something !
23:39 MrCurious add in the showers and toilets!
23:39 theBear ooh, almost, the correct answer was toilet and 4 ! in the roman bath shower !!!!
23:40 theBear there IS a tap out the back between me and the guy directly mirror/next door flat, but it's on a strata meter so you aren't charged for using it, tho on reflection, the water is flat rate part of the rent here anyway, i'm not sure they have more than 1 meter
23:41 theBear so yeah, lotta taps ! that's how you KNOW it's a good deal
23:41 theBear and lemme just thin... yep, a door for EVERY room !
23:41 theBear some rooms have up to 4 doors sharing a border with them !
23:42 theBear so ya know, i couldn't really ever hope to get a much fancier place in my lifetime, i just can't see it !
23:42 theBear putting off doing something, don't know what, never planned today
23:42 theBear nooneenoo
23:43 theBear hehe, sometimes it feels good to waste a little time and smile about it
23:44 MrCurious sry, game started and my focus shifted
23:49 theBear focus ? you playing a rally game ? :)
23:49 theBear i think seat is a funny name for a car
23:50 theBear it's still windy, the doors keep wiggling and sometimes it goes whooooooooooossshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhshshshshssssssowoowwwwww outside
23:50 theBear good thing i don't really need to go out there, i might get err, my hair all blowed around
23:51 theBear i want breakfast now, but i also wanna use it as bribe money to borrow the car today, i'm torn
23:51 MrCurious i juat had moon over myhammy at dennys
23:52 theBear i understood about every 3rd word there
23:52 theBear say it in english
23:52 theBear no propernouns
23:53 theBear or non-sensical colloquial terms
23:53 theBear you're right, shutup bear, your expert fingers could be busy elsewhere
