00:03 RifRaf would have to agree
00:07 Jak_o_Shadows Sadly, bunnings/mitre10's websites suck, which makes it hard to look them up
00:13 MrCurious_ anyone do anything interesting today
00:13 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: air or electric
00:15 GuShH MrCurious: interesting for whom?
00:15 Faek I'm doing quadratic langrange interpolating polynomail in matlab - from scratch
00:15 Faek I dont think that counts as interesting
00:15 GuShH that's code for methlab
00:16 GuShH and he's wearing the hat too!
00:16 Jak_o_Shadows Electric. I'd like air tools, but they're fairly uncommon, and I would need to start from scratch
00:16 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: I don't know if uncommon... you just need a heck of a compressor for most of them
00:16 GuShH high cfm such as die grinders...
00:17 GuShH some are not so demanding, but anything that rotates is!
00:17 GuShH except for impact wrenches, unless you use them all day long... damn I'd like one.
00:17 MrCurious_ quadratic. been years since i heard that
00:17 GuShH but it's one of those things you only use a few times a month, if that.
00:17 ShH mostly uses air for pain
00:18 Faek I wish i could use for loops lol. I can do this assignment hell easy with for loops
00:18 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: no used dremels in good condition? or are you looking for something beefier
00:18 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, I wouldn't use it too often
00:18 GuShH I don't like Dremel at all...
00:19 Jak_o_Shadows Uh, I should look up used tools eh.
00:19 GuShH Not really, but sometimes you can find very good deals
00:19 GuShH specially on older stuff (that was generally higher quality)
00:19 Jak_o_Shadows Power wise, a dremel is probably fine.
00:20 GuShH it is, but the bits are expensive... and the chinese ones are crap
00:20 GuShH well, depends on what you're doing.
00:20 GuShH the dremel stand costs as much as a cheap bench press here
00:20 GuShH and it's just a piece of plastic with two tubes.
00:20 GuShH they just change the colours and the overall shape of the tool every year or so, it's been the same crap since ever.
00:21 GuShH the very first one was a friggin motor with a coupler on the shaft, no plastic at all.. bare motor.
00:21 GuShH hard to believe it picked up and became what it is today, money wise...
00:22 GuShH http://www.dremel.com/en-us/misc/history/Pages/default.aspx heh they've actually pulled the pictures since
00:23 GuShH "let's hide the fact that it was just a motor with a drill bit on the end"
00:24 Jak_o_Shadows Talon sn't a great brand
00:24 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: anyway the dremel 4000 is plenty fast for pcb work
00:24 GuShH and it comes with the flex shaft
00:25 Jak_o_Shadows http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/athelstone/power-tools/old-grinder/1025645679 Um, what
00:25 GuShH I might get one eventually, mine has fallen apart even though it hasn't seen that much use
00:25 GuShH is that like australia's craigslist?
00:25 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah.
00:25 GuShH lol that seems homemade... vintage!
00:25 GuShH I wouldn't pay half.
00:26 Jak_o_Shadows Price must be because of antique value
00:26 Jak_o_Shadows There's a wood lathe here for the same price. The belt looks rubbish, as does the motor
00:26 GuShH http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/athelstone/hand-tools/crow-bar-1-2m-long/1025863952 haha
00:26 GuShH oh, link?
00:26 GuShH I'd totally get a lathe, any lathe, for 40 bucks.
00:26 Jak_o_Shadows http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/athelstone/power-tools/small-wood-turning-lathe/1024732549
00:27 GuShH I'm not sure that's antique
00:27 GuShH isn't it just a mix-match
00:27 Jak_o_Shadows It's a lathe in the most basic condition
00:27 GuShH yeah but some people buy used parts and put them together
00:27 GuShH mines chinese... needs improvement.
00:28 GuShH that is an old electric motor though, problem there is there aren't multiple pulleys just the one...
00:28 GuShH so no speed change without a variac...
00:28 GuShH and if the spindle doesn't have a morse taper, that's also not very useful.
00:29 Jak_o_Shadows There's a little bandsaw as well that looks ok, for $10, but it doesn't have a blade. You would definitely spend more on a new blade.
00:29 GuShH yeah I would imagine
00:29 hackman127 rue, would you happen to be around?
00:30 GuShH I've bought a used espresso machine not long ago... it had about 8 years, but almost no use. So it's all about the condition, not the fact that it's "used"... you just need to make sure it wasn't "abused".
00:30 GuShH oh and it was a tenth of the price compared to the new one (which is still being sold) so yeah... sometimes it's worth a shot
00:31 GuShH some other things though I woudln't buy used...
00:33 Jak_o_Shadows I'm not particularly looking for a welder, but http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/morphett-vale/power-tools/portable-welder-helmet/1019955172 probably isn't too bad
00:33 GuShH older version of my lathe http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/carlisle/other-tools-diy/lathe-and-woodworking-tools/1021277194
00:33 GuShH (woodlathe)
00:34 GuShH I actually like the old one, it was sturdier.
00:34 Jak_o_Shadows The height of boredom: Looking through another countries craigslist
00:34 GuShH haha
00:34 GuShH more like "can't sleep, let's see what other people are trying to sell"
00:35 Jak_o_Shadows Trying to decide whether it's wor4th it to pay $5 for a printer to take apart
00:35 RifRaf yes it is
00:35 GuShH that tiny welder 250A? naa
00:36 RifRaf you learn lots
00:36 GuShH inkjet?
00:36 GuShH you get a nice steel rod out of it a stepper or two...
00:36 RifRaf the older the better though is you want usable parts
00:37 RifRaf if*
00:37 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: 80 usd for that welder seems expensive, even if it comes with the mask (which seems passive anyway, not worth much at all)
00:37 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, I have 2 good steel rods, 1 steel rod with rubber bits glued to it, 2xsteppers, and a DC motor
00:38 RifRaf many have standard smoothrods like 8 or 10mm, and usable steppers, and you will see how to construct things
00:38 GuShH RifRaf: is it hardened steel or what exactly
00:38 GuShH I've got a couple...
00:38 GuShH seems chromed
00:38 RifRaf generally yes
00:38 GuShH problem with cheap arc welders is they have a relatively low voltage and you get a very unstable arc in general, hard to sustain it.
00:39 GuShH you can weld, but they're hard to learn with.
00:39 RifRaf have stripped so many printers for parts years back, used to get em from the dump every week
00:39 GuShH heh
00:39 GuShH I used to get them from my brother
00:39 RifRaf wish i kept alot of the parts now, but chucked em all out, would have been great for reprap
00:39 GuShH oh well
00:40 GuShH can you overdose on pizza?
00:40 Jak_o_Shadows GuShH: The helmet is $30, and I can't find a welder at bunnings for < $90
00:40 ShH 's belly h
00:40 RifRaf still have many nice motors, hp deskjet 500 have an awesome encoder motor
00:40 GuShH I'm not current with prices in Australia... it just seems expensive that's all.
00:40 GuShH you could probably get an inverter one for not much more
00:40 Jak_o_Shadows welcome to australia! it just seems expensive that's all
00:40 GuShH I want a 3 in 1 but they've gone up in price since I checked
00:41 GuShH (smaw, tig, plasma)
00:41 GuShH problem is you don't get a lot of flexibility out of those machines, unless it's a professional unit.
00:41 Jak_o_Shadows To be honest, i'd be lousy at tig, so if I had the money, and the need, i'd go with a gasless mig setup that I can covert to mag.
00:42 GuShH I don't like gasless
00:42 GuShH it's like stick but for lazy people.
00:42 Jak_o_Shadows yeah!
00:42 GuShH (and thus more expensive)
00:42 GuShH with an argon tank you can do a lot though.
00:43 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: why would you be lousy at tig?
00:43 Jak_o_Shadows It seems similar to oxy-acetylene and I was lousy at that
00:44 GuShH it's the slowest of all three, but the best for general use with regard to sheet metal and most home projects.
00:44 GuShH it's not, oxy is very primitive and different!
00:44 GuShH (alright some of the techniques are similar, the concept is similar... but it's not the same!)
00:44 Jak_o_Shadows Plus, my hands shake sometimes, which makes soldering annoying enough
00:45 GuShH being able to weld without adding material is a plus
00:45 GuShH say, joining two pieces of sheet metal
00:46 GuShH it's very controlled vs the other methods
00:46 GuShH shaky hands.. any known condition or just way too much caffeine? heh
00:47 RifRaf Jak_o_Shadows, try smokin pot
00:47 GuShH try a beer first?
00:47 GuShH Can I get some pot seeds? I could grow it legally for ya
00:47 GuShH ! you should all chip in and send me some seeds, it's for the greater good of the channel. I bet I'll mellow and become the equivalent of fungus
00:47 RifRaf couple of stripped printers http://imagebin.org/267984
00:48 Jak_o_Shadows Nah, it doesn't happen very often
00:48 RifRaf GuShH, but can you post it back legally?
00:48 GuShH no.
00:48 RifRaf you suck if its legal there
00:48 GuShH it is
00:48 RifRaf :(
00:48 GuShH I could even walk around with cocaine in my pocket.
00:48 hackman127 RifRaf: a couple?
00:48 GuShH if I wanted to
00:48 GuShH (don't ask me how many grams, I don't know...)
00:48 GuShH 2-3?
00:48 RifRaf have more pics like that, will find another
00:49 RifRaf thats was a busy weekend
00:49 GuShH But sure, you can grow it for personal use.
00:49 GuShH I have plenty space and I could do it legally, but still I'm not doing it...
00:49 hackman127 My wife made me get rid of a lot of my hardware. To her defense, I hadn't done anything with it in years...
00:49 GuShH see? it should be legalized in australia, us, canada...
00:49 GuShH just because it's legal doesn't mean everyone will start growing it
00:49 Jak_o_Shadows Do hot air-guns work well for brute-desoldering of junk?
00:49 RifRaf it should
00:49 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: yeah
00:49 GuShH but outside.
00:50 GuShH the fumes are nasty shit.
00:50 RifRaf yep
00:50 Jak_o_Shadows I should get one
00:50 GuShH I used to wack the boards after heating up and everything would just fall out into a tray
00:50 RifRaf same
00:51 GuShH So "Talon" is your equivalent of Ryobi or worse?
00:51 RifRaf i am 2 weeks pot free, on purpose, but its been crazy, and starting to have dreams again, some are good but some are just crazy
00:52 ShH wonders where to score seeds, just because he always wanted to tr
00:52 Jak_o_Shadows I would say worse
00:52 GuShH Homelite?
00:52 RifRaf just wanted to see what normaility was like for first time in 30 years
00:52 GuShH you know those two used to be really good brands back in the day
00:52 RifRaf and increase chances of finding a new job
00:53 RifRaf more printers http://imagebin.org/267986
00:53 Jak_o_Shadows Talon more focuses on gardening tools though
00:53 GuShH yeah looking at a chainsaw
00:53 GuShH I need to figure out what's wrong with my small chainsaw...
00:53 RifRaf i should get my stuff online again
00:53 GuShH I think it's leaky near the bearings
00:53 hackman127 Need more printers
00:54 Jak_o_Shadows Hmm, an electric chainsaw probably doesn't have particularly good parts inside really eh
00:54 GuShH nope
00:54 GuShH I don't even know why they exist
00:54 GuShH noise probably?
00:54 hackman127 Noise for sure
00:54 GuShH they're torquey but ... who wants to carry lots of cable around
00:54 GuShH who cares about the noise!
00:54 GuShH use hearing protection.
00:54 hackman127 That's all they're good for.
00:54 GuShH and the hell with your neighbours
00:55 GuShH ok indoor use is one.
00:55 GuShH I still wouldn't get one.
00:55 GuShH I'd rather get a generic 2 stroke http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/jimboomba/power-tools/petrol-chainsaw/1025710837
00:56 GuShH this is not what you think it is http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/jimboomba/power-tools/big-chainsaw/1025710971
00:56 GuShH (not a stihl)
00:57 GuShH I feel sorry for people buying those china-jobs thinking they're stihl...
00:57 GuShH there are also husqvarna clones
00:57 hackman127 I have a Husqvarna, love it.
00:57 hackman127 It's not a clone, though.
00:57 GuShH I want a stihl so bad.
00:58 ShH has a chainsaw addiction of s
00:58 GuShH hackman127: 345 or similar series?
00:59 hackman127 Now I'm going to have to go look... lol
00:59 RifRaf hot air desoldered bits http://imagebin.org/267987
01:00 GuShH RifRaf: some of which shall never be used, but still "good to have it"
01:00 RifRaf most chucked out, used a couple of bits :)
01:00 GuShH vintage chainsaws go for big bucks specially if in mint condition...
01:00 RifRaf GuShH, these days i just buy what i need, in those days rue was a mentor
01:00 GuShH but even beat up ones are expensive here
01:01 RifRaf wanna see rue being kissed by a sealion?
01:01 GuShH I don't know...
01:02 GuShH why are there two 8.8 gradings on bolts?
01:02 GuShH grades, gradings... I feel so indian.
01:02 ShH throws a flipflop at hackman127 and idly begins to unwrap a coathanger to steal his electri
01:03 RifRaf don't tell him http://imagebin.org/267988
01:04 hackman127 GuShH: It's a 435, 16"
01:04 GuShH which ones rue?
01:04 RifRaf lol
01:05 GuShH hackman127: plenty good for most home use and pruning!
01:05 hackman127 lol! Funny you should mention Rue, I've been looking for him. It's been so long since I've been on here, I don't remember when he's usually on.
01:05 GuShH these saws are beasts compared to what they were 50 years ago
01:05 hackman127 GuShH: Yep! I'm not felling any large timber, so it does the job.
01:06 GuShH (a 120cc from the 60s would have a hard time competing with the 435) but then again they were fitted with massive bars, whereas a 16 runs very fast by comparison...
01:06 GuShH and the weight? pfft.
01:07 GuShH I don't think I could use an old saw for more than 5 minutes.
01:07 RifRaf hackman127, normally now, but might be in bed with a seal
01:07 GuShH lol
01:07 hackman127 lol
01:07 GuShH hopefully not the singer.
01:07 GuShH aka crater-face
01:07 hackman127 That's a visual I could do without. LOL!!!
01:07 MrCurious1 switching from osx to windows sux
01:08 RifRaf yeah he is on tv here a bit, was a judge for australian idol this yeah
01:08 GuShH he's like a real life demonstration of parallax bump mapping
01:08 ShH thinks that joke would fly better in #gamedev or somet
01:09 hackman127 That's harsh. True, but harsh...
01:09 GuShH Why did Heidi leave him? he so pretty.
01:09 GuShH You can't help but think he's hiding something in his pants, to score a girl like that.
01:09 GuShH Probably a fire hose.
01:10 GuShH *cough*
01:10 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, not a lot of point keeping IC's from printers eh
01:10 GuShH depends
01:10 GuShH some have old stepper ICs you can use
01:10 hackman127 Jak_o_Shadows: sometimes the stepper drivers aren't bad.
01:10 GuShH L295
01:10 GuShH (old!)
01:11 GuShH more modern ones are smt...
01:11 GuShH and with integrated functions
01:11 GuShH http://www.bristolwatch.com/ele/flashtube/diac_sawtooth.jpg interesting
01:14 GuShH I wonder how accurately a ne-2 would trigger by comparison
01:14 GuShH wouldn't be very good...
01:14 GuShH I've played with neon bulbs in the past (oscillators, etc) fun but hard to find a use these days
01:15 RifRaf GuShH, your loungeroom should have one of these in it http://imagebin.org/267991
01:17 RifRaf and it was next to the fishtank
01:17 GuShH haha
01:18 hackman127 I need a lathe... And a mill.
01:18 GuShH you should work as a home decorator. "and in this corner, a bridgeport mill, in hot pink"
01:18 RifRaf http://imagebin.org/267992
01:18 GuShH I need a mill...
01:18 RifRaf shame my cameras were crap back then
01:18 hackman127 No no no, camo.
01:18 GuShH or a milling vise for the lathe, at least
01:19 GuShH HOT PINK CAMO
01:19 hackman127 HA!
01:19 GuShH I like the fishtank better
01:19 RifRaf was nice, 6 foot long
01:19 GuShH only because I used to be into that
01:19 GuShH ever since I remember.
01:19 RifRaf maybe 5, but alot of water
01:19 GuShH had all kinds of tropical fish and cold water too
01:19 GuShH never marine though
01:19 GuShH couldn't afford it
01:21 Jak_o_Shadows Hmm, once I mod these two servos into CTS rotation, does that basically give me a motor with encoder, or do I have to get fancier than that
01:21 GuShH eek http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61TwpQ3yuML.jpg
01:21 GuShH that's what hot pink camo looks like
01:21 RifRaf Jak_o_Shadows, you lose position control
01:22 Jak_o_Shadows Because it can't verify where it is?
01:22 hackman127 That's some fugly hot pink camo.
01:22 RifRaf very inconspicuous camo
01:22 GuShH http://www.powersportswraps.com/pwrblog/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/pink-jeep-2.jpg
01:23 GuShH I think most people have a horrible taste!
01:23 GuShH is that vinyl? probably costs more than the jeep is worth, if that's a Jeep at all.
01:23 hackman127 HA HA HA!!!! I was just about to paste this:
01:23 hackman127 http://www.powersportswraps.com/pwrblog/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/vinyl-wrap-411-real-tree-pink-1.jpg
01:24 GuShH that's slightly better, still what the hell
01:24 hackman127 For real
01:25 GuShH kids back in the day didn't need 555... http://mysite.du.edu/~etuttle/electron/circ171.gif
01:33 RifRaf this aaa battery has been running a few leds on the boost convertor for 2 days now, much better than using a cr2032
01:37 Jak_o_Shadows1 Ok, these servos mechanical stop is easily removable, and reinstallable, but the pot would need to be cut
01:38 RifRaf just cut it
01:38 RifRaf you can always solder it back if your hands stop shaking
01:38 Jak_o_Shadows1 haha. Nah, not that bit, the mechanical linkage to the pot. Unless I were to cut the pot wires, and make it rotate the whole pot?
01:39 RifRaf no
01:39 SleepersTide lol
01:39 SleepersTide can't you just remove the pot entirely?
01:39 RifRaf yep
01:39 SleepersTide Or does it serve a mechanical purpose?
01:39 RifRaf sometimes it performs another mechanical function thoughy,
01:40 RifRaf but i forgot at this point in time
01:40 SleepersTide I seem to recall having done horrible things to a small servo in the past
01:40 SleepersTide ah, yeah
01:40 RifRaf nope you can remove it, otherwise you would have to break the pot for it to work
01:41 SleepersTide Jak_o_Shadows1: IIRC what you can do is drill out the part in the gear that attaches to the end of the pot shaft (if it's a D-shaft, not press-fit)
01:41 RifRaf if i had a webserver i could have the instructions online, but there are many others out there
01:42 SleepersTide then that gear will rotate freely on the pot shaft without needing the pot to move
01:42 Jak_o_Shadows1 Not a D-shaft, I think it uses two little lugs to fit into the gear on either side. I'd cut them off.
01:42 SleepersTide oh, damn
01:42 SleepersTide oh well
01:42 SleepersTide does it work?
01:43 Jak_o_Shadows1 I'm hoping that the pot has a d-shaft or something, and I can just pull it out
01:43 RifRaf its does and you can
01:44 GuShH Today I finally gave in and decided to take a selfie for facebook... http://gushh.net/tmp/selfie.jpg
01:45 GuShH take that youngsters!
01:45 SleepersTide hahahah, awesome
01:45 RifRaf you can do better than that
01:46 GuShH yeah in the bathroom, but that's too much
01:47 Faek Haha GuShH
01:58 RifRaf can you find the rue? http://imagebin.org/267995
01:58 hackman127 You know I'm getting the itch to build something when I'm watching videos of people machining crap on YouTube.
02:00 GuShH so build something
02:01 GuShH is RifRaf going down through memory lane?
02:01 RifRaf yep
02:01 hackman127 Thinking about building a gas turbine.
02:02 GuShH hackman127: fart turbine!
02:03 hackman127 Long as it burns. lol
02:03 Jak_o_Shadows1 who cares if it burns, as long as it produces thrust
02:05 GuShH http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/155631/randy-takes-a-crap
02:07 hackman127 LOL!!!! Love South Park.
02:12 hackman127 Um, I'll take one of these machines. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gmTPlNE-mU
02:14 GuShH http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/111249/world-record
02:16 GuShH hackman127: do you have the space for it?
02:16 GuShH those 5 axis machines are also very power hungry! and... well, we should rob a bank first
02:17 hackman127 If one were to just magically appear in my yard, I'd find room for it.
02:17 GuShH how would you move it!
02:17 GuShH you sure have unrealistic goals :p
02:17 hackman127 Yeah, power may be an issue. There's no 3 phase on my road.
02:18 GuShH it probably requires shop air, not sure they would have a built in compressor at all
02:20 hackman127 One can dream, right?
02:20 GuShH sure
02:20 GuShH but you could build a more realistic machine instead :p
02:20 hackman127 True...
02:21 hackman127 Speaking of dreaming, I should head to bed. 3AM here.
02:21 GuShH 4AM!
02:21 GuShH I can't sleep, again.
02:21 GuShH RifRaf: is pot good for sleeping?
02:21 GuShH and back pain
02:21 hackman127 Been there
02:22 RifRaf finding some funny pics here
02:22 RifRaf GuShH, sure is
02:22 GuShH darn.
02:22 RifRaf only way i have managed to sleep last 30 years
02:22 GuShH there's no reason I shouldn't try it
02:22 GuShH hackman127: this is the kind of thing you'll end up machining http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytFQMEeq3Bk
02:23 GuShH holy crap that's a lot of alu. must cost quite a bit of cash.
02:23 hackman127 HA HA HA HA!!!! Not sure how the wife would take that one.
02:23 GuShH why is this so sexy....
02:25 hackman127 One of my jobs is a photographer, and one of the gigs is shooting boudoir. I think that's enough.
02:26 GuShH wonder if they ran a test with some cheaper material first
02:26 hackman127 I would hope so.
02:28 Jak_o_Shadows1 well, dammit, the control pad came off this servo.
02:29 RifRaf control pad?
02:29 GuShH was it auto tapping near the end? jeez
02:29 GuShH crazy germans.
02:29 Jak_o_Shadows1 control wire connection came off
02:29 RifRaf the pcb? just stick it back in
02:31 GuShH poor man's version http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:35458
02:32 GuShH gold PLA haha
02:32 Jak_o_Shadows1 Yeah, soldering stuff is outside though.
02:34 RifRaf how can i be on irc but not use the internet in a browser, this sucks
02:34 RifRaf i have printed the pink panther woman a few times, the holey one
02:34 RifRaf cannot see the image though
02:34 GuShH dns
02:34 GuShH heh http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:135242
02:34 GuShH "visor clip for a 1983 toyota pickup"
02:35 GuShH see, that's the kind of stuff I like to see.
02:35 GuShH not just artsy useless bullshit
02:35 RifRaf ok, me on a good day http://imagebin.org/267997
02:35 GuShH scared to click
02:35 GuShH hackman127: you first
02:35 RifRaf attracted lots of red and white
02:37 GuShH lol
02:37 GuShH RifRaf: are you sure you and theBear are unrelated?
02:38 RifRaf lol well we are both aussie, could be a connection
02:39 RifRaf maybe a convict relation in the past
02:40 GuShH why are there so many hitler documentaries still being made
02:41 RifRaf someone in the us named their son adolf hilter this year, heard it on the radio the other day
02:41 GuShH damn
02:41 GuShH that's on the sick side.
02:42 RifRaf and they were complaining about some couple want to name their son the messiah
02:42 GuShH it's enough that he ruined the name Adolf and the moustache.
02:43 GuShH RifRaf: are cheap drill presses really that bad or is there room for improvement?
02:43 GuShH MrCurious says he couldn't even drill a hole with his
02:44 GuShH I guess the "shaft" is hollow and fairly thin, so it flexes.. the spindle is not morse tapered and most of the body casting is hollow, but.. are they really unusable
02:44 GuShH or was MrCurious trying to drill titanium with a concrete bit with the spindle reversed somehow.
02:44 ShH chuc
02:46 GuShH Here's the thing, I can't afford an industrial press but I do need to drill repetitive holes... I also need a mill, but I wouldn't like to use the mill on "dirty" quick projects either...
02:47 RifRaf oh i so want to go party again
02:48 RifRaf GuShH, my $60 press has done about 60k holes and still strong
02:48 RifRaf mainly pcb, used to do 20 holes a minute by hand
02:49 RifRaf MrCurious, must not know how to use a drill press
02:50 RifRaf have drill with a 5/8 bit though 1 inch steel at times, that stresses it a bit, and if thin plate you end up with triangle holes if not help properly
02:50 RifRaf held*
02:50 RifRaf but the standing ones at work do a much better job, depends what you want i guess
02:51 RifRaf my dril press is still in lounge room, on a towel to save the carpet a bit
02:52 RifRaf did some holes with 10mm bit just before
02:52 MrCurious1 i always regret briinging machine tools into the house
02:52 MrCurious1 keep em in the work shop...
02:52 RifRaf too cold outside in the middle of the night
02:53 RifRaf have no workshop :(
02:53 RifRaf but have a factory most of the week thankfully
02:54 RifRaf MrCurious, every house should at least have a lathe and drill press in loungeroom
02:57 RifRaf GuShH, a lathe makes a great drill press for a lot of centered things
02:58 MrCurious1 you would think they would install them when they build the houses, but no. go figure
02:58 RifRaf of not even centered if you can use the 4 jaw chuck properly
02:59 RifRaf MrCurious, i dunno why they don't, the world would be a much more creative place
03:00 RifRaf instead of boring tv
03:01 RifRaf i had a whole wall for the tv when i had lathe in there, via projector so the screen could not get smashed
03:04 RifRaf http://imagebin.org/267999
03:05 RifRaf you can see my britney spears doll if you look close
03:05 RifRaf forget why i got that but i did
03:05 RifRaf and the first POV stepper motor driven display
03:06 RifRaf beofre there was any other on the markey
03:06 RifRaf well there still has not been a self powered on
03:06 RifRaf one
03:07 fRaf considers getting the projector
03:08 fRaf wonders why that last link is b
03:08 RifRaf could not do that if i tried
03:14 GuShH RifRaf: yes but setup time on lathe is huge compared to drill press for regular things
03:14 GuShH LOL
03:15 GuShH the britney doll
03:15 RifRaf there was a reason for it
03:15 GuShH but it doesn't even look like a barbie, more like the trashy crap she is.
03:15 RifRaf i dressed her that way
03:15 GuShH haha
03:16 RifRaf well she did have a black mini anyway
03:16 GuShH this is getting weird
03:16 Jak_o_Shadows1 Ok, 2 CTS servos with wheels installed.
03:16 RifRaf i would not be rifraf if i was too normal
03:17 GuShH RifRaf: 13mm chuck on the cheap drill press, 160x160mm bed and a 3 inch vise, 5 speeds through pulley combination and 1/3HP
03:17 RifRaf funny that i cannot even remember why i bought her though
03:17 GuShH 580mm tall only, doesn't say how much travel it has
03:17 GuShH the taller ones cost considerably more and I can't see a use for them, at least for what I'm trying to do
03:18 RifRaf 13mm chuck can do alot, alot of larger drill bits come with a 13mm top part
03:18 RifRaf you have to go slow though
03:18 GuShH these are not morse taper spindles of course
03:18 GuShH we're talking cheapie
03:18 GuShH about 100 bucks here
03:18 RifRaf yep thats me, all my tools are cheapish
03:18 GuShH with the vise, which I think is a must
03:19 GuShH since it doesn't have a clamp kit
03:19 GuShH heck not even the mini mills have them, they're optional
03:20 RifRaf yes get a nice vice for it
03:20 RifRaf we all need our vices
03:20 GuShH I've considered adding an XY table to one of these for slotting (improvised mill) but I don't think it would be usable at all and the XY costs as much as 6 of those drill presses together.
03:21 GuShH plus they're not built for that kind of use, bearing wise...
03:21 GuShH It's just that I don't currently need precision, so it's hard to justify a proper mill
03:22 GuShH 50mm travel, it seems.
03:22 GuShH (spindle)
03:26 GuShH RifRaf: check out this ancient mill made in argentina http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-471443581-fresadora-vertical-marca-ruizma-_JM
03:28 GuShH very well restored, too expensive though (nearly 3k usd, not including taxes 10.5%)
03:28 RifRaf milling by hand must be hard work compared to cnc but i would still have that machine anyday
03:28 RifRaf i want to make my lathe cnc as next decent project i think
03:28 GuShH but still usable by hand I hope
03:28 SleepersTide as opposed to indecent projects, RifRaf?
03:29
03:30 GuShH holy crap they've got like 10 lathes in there
03:30 GuShH hate that colour.
03:32
03:32 GuShH I wonder how many tons that thing weighs
03:32 GuShH moving it must cost a fortune...
03:33 GuShH blast from the past, now we can't even make a lightbulb.
04:03 RifRaf nothing getting made there anymore? they are about to close down out last car making plants soon, the gov has to pay them so much just to keep them viable
04:03 RifRaf no more fords :(
04:04 RifRaf dunno what i will get now, old fords i guess
04:04 RifRaf i hate small cars
04:04 RifRaf if i cannot sleep in the back is not good enough
04:26 fRaf blows up the port cask for one last d
04:28 GuShH RifRaf: where is this guy from? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TzVNHxMziw
04:28 GuShH he talks funny.
04:29 RifRaf canadia?
04:29 RifRaf on coke
04:33 fRaf wonders where the rooman is ton
04:33 RifRaf testing another battery maybe
04:33 rue_house movie night with the lady!
04:33 RifRaf woot :)
04:33 rue_house that battery I discharged to 3V dosn't seem to be comming back above 4V
04:34 RifRaf maybe you need a better charger
04:34 rue_house it chages all my other batteries fine
04:34 RifRaf lipo is a funny beast
04:34 rue_house ooo I should d a capacity test on one of the cell phone batteries
04:35 rue_house did you hear I tore one apart?
04:35 RifRaf yep
04:35 rue_house I was surprised it really is a raw cell
04:35 RifRaf yep
04:35 RifRaf i would not expect alot more from those cells
04:35 rue_house 1.3Ah
04:36 rue_house on the nose
04:36 RifRaf instead of 5
04:36 rue_house yep
04:36 rue_house I didn't really expect 5
04:36 rue_house I would if it were about 5x heavier
04:36 RifRaf rue remember when you were trying to be a real roo, i could not help sharing the pic today sorry
04:37 rue_house its 2am, I'ma gonna get some sleep
04:37 RifRaf no worries
04:37 rue_house wake up tommorow and solder togethor a circuit for something
04:37 RifRaf wish it was not monday tomorrow already
04:39 RifRaf forgot to wash my clothes today, but i guess they would just get dirty again in the first hour anyway so noone would notice
06:38 zoplrdb Tom_itx, How do you host your site?
08:36 Tom_itx zoplrdb, local pc with dyndns
08:40 zoplrdb Ah ok
11:01 GuShH Tom_itx: does your server storage system use this? http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/08/130811150605.htm
11:01 ShH likes the
11:02 GuShH give it maybe 10 years?
11:31 GuShH http://www.motorbeam.com/bikes/bajaj-pulsar-bikes/why-the-pulsar-200-ns-has-3-spark-plugs/ crazy indians!

11:52 Tom_itx been doing that for years already :D
12:32 MrCurious keep on mocking in the free world!
12:57 GuShH MrCurious: they'll probably come up with a 6 sparkplug version next, to raise the fuel economy by 1%
12:57 GuShH nevermind the cost of sparkplugs! it's india!
12:57 GuShH they probably never change them.
12:59 MrCurious i am pretty sure we have passed the point of no return on climate change, and it will be thousands of years before it repairs itself. the only question now is how broken will we make it. my guess is we will hit MAX_BROKEN when we melt the frozen methane under the oceans.
12:59 GuShH MrCurious: Hmmm it's more a question of their pocket than the planet
13:00 GuShH believe me, it's India.
13:00 MrCurious its not just india
13:00 MrCurious its US, china, europe, argentina... brazil EQUADOR!
13:27 MrCurious the end is nigh
13:27 MrCurious better finish your projects, because in a few years, it will be pencils down!
13:43 SquirrelCZECH :-)
13:44 GuShH MrCurious: they always say that
13:44 GuShH it's an ever lasting scam
13:44 MrCurious its real
13:44 GuShH my dick is real.
13:44 MrCurious its a shame the doubters will drive us over the edge with them
13:45 GuShH https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI4bGRqG4F4
13:45 GuShH du du dun du dun du duu
14:10 SquirrelCZECH hmm
14:10 MrCurious to put the problem another way
14:11 MrCurious would you bet a friend the price of a soda?
14:11 MrCurious probably would
14:11 MrCurious would you bet a friend your lifetime income? or indentured servitude, or your hand or arm?
14:11 MrCurious bet is too big to be safely made...
14:12 MrCurious and due to cognitive dissonance, we live in the shadow of the threat oblivious to its actual risks, like people living at the base of a damn....
14:12 MrCurious or cigarettte smokers
14:13 GuShH MrCurious: go make something already
14:13 GuShH leave the rest to the pot smokers
14:13 MrCurious pot smoke encourages global warming... ok....
14:14 MrCurious its bad dont do that okay?
14:15 GuShH I wonder what type of bug crawled up your green hole.
14:15 GuShH and remember, green is brown.
14:15 MrCurious my lower back is screaming at me
14:15 GuShH so is mine, and?
14:15 MrCurious i guess its manifesting as climate change
14:15 GuShH I'll still go and keep working on the lathe stand!
14:15 GuShH it's probably the humidity
14:15 MrCurious i cant help but notice you have been spending more time here and less time there of late...
14:15 GuShH I could just head to bed and sleep until tomorrow though, which is what you'll probably do
14:16 GuShH didn't you see my selfie? the stand is behind me
14:16 MrCurious tried. cant sleep back hurts too much
14:16 GuShH it just needs finishing work
14:16 MrCurious hang on... entering into a remote viewing trance
14:16 MrCurious i see there it is
14:16 MrCurious stand
14:16 GuShH rue would've been done in a few hours, but it would've looked like shit, no offense.
14:16 MrCurious lathe
14:16 MrCurious box of steel dildoes?
14:16 GuShH no, I posted a "selfie" as a joke earlier today
14:16 GuShH I don't own steel dildoes if that's the plural
14:17 GuShH http://gushh.net/tmp/selfie.jpg
14:17 MrCurious beats me not something i ever asked..
14:17 GuShH that's how I roll on facebook
14:17 MrCurious OMG
14:17 MrCurious houses in argentina look JUST LIKE OURS!
14:17 GuShH that's just a corner of my garage?
14:17 GuShH messy as it is.
14:17 MrCurious i thought you lived underground like hobbits
14:18 GuShH that's Brazil, or something.
14:18 MrCurious probably
14:18 GuShH so much crap to throw away
14:19 MrCurious give it away to poor people
14:19 MrCurious we put that shit in the front driveway near sidewalk
14:19 MrCurious and it vanishes
14:19 GuShH it's interesting though, the garage is not heated (at least not directly) but it is indirectly heated by the "boiler room" which is behind a wall.
14:19 GuShH I left 50 or so 2 gallon plastic jugs and they were gone in a few minutes
14:20 MrCurious yep
14:20 GuShH (don't ask me why the previous owner kept that many...)
14:20 GuShH most were from distilled water
14:20 GuShH I THINK it had something to do with the druggies who rented before.
14:20 GuShH yes, they were cooking meth or some other shit in the very same garage!
14:20 MrCurious you had a water cache as a hedge against the apocalypse, and you GAVE it away?
14:20 GuShH I know for a fact. And that's cool, means lower prices.
14:20 GuShH I'm not a prepper, and if I were I wouldn't use those plastic jugs
14:21 GuShH water doesn't keep very well, specially like that.
14:21 GuShH most preppers are clueless cunts with disposable income and nothing better to do in life.
14:21 GuShH Yes I would like a bunker full of whores and snicker bars, but that's not a priority.
14:22 GuShH And to my disgust snicker bars sold here are now made in Brazil or Chile and they taste like shit.
14:22 MrCurious twinkies
14:22 GuShH They're not even exactly the same... they're friggin different!
14:22 MrCurious they never expire
14:22 GuShH they still make them?
14:22 GuShH I thought they closed down
14:23 MrCurious they stopped for a while, then bankrupsy ended, someone bought em and re-making them
14:23 GuShH or was it bought by some crazy weirdos, like the polaroid film company
14:23 GuShH now called "impossible" or something like that
14:23 GuShH probably some fat fuck
14:23 GuShH kim dot com?
14:23 GuShH now getting free twinky enemas
14:24 MrCurious it was bought by kim jong un, and he plans to only distribute them in N korea
14:24 GuShH -_-
14:25 GuShH MrCurious: you should take something for the pain...
14:29 MrCurious i took a naproxin, but that isnt doing it. think i will hit the aspirin
15:07 MrCurious back pain is fading!
15:23 robotustra ages it's when you 1/2 of time can't do anything because of pain and the rest 1/2 of time you are doing anythig because you are waiting for pain return
15:23 robotustra ages it's when you 1/2 of time can't do anything because of pain and the rest 1/2 of time you are not doing anythig because you are waiting for pain return
15:38 MrCurious1 nice!
15:39 MrCurious1 pidgin is not that bad for irc
15:50 SquirrelCZECH MrCurious: you sure about this? :D
16:14 eadthem anyone have a sugested place to buy bolts
16:14 eadthem im needing 9 and 10 inches long 3/8 inch
16:14 eadthem hardware stores in the area stop at 8 inches :p
16:15 RifRaf there are normally special shops that deal with them, or your general hardware places, or online
16:15 RifRaf we have a boltorium in town, is very handy
16:15 RifRaf aliexpress should have something maybe
16:16 RifRaf eadthem, or used threaded rod with a few nuts
16:17 eadthem might have to do the threaded rod
16:17 eadthem bolt depo has it
16:17 eadthem but wants an outragus ammount on shipping for 8 bolts
16:18 RifRaf they are heavy
16:27 cuog eadthem stock up, makes shipping less painful
16:28 GuShH boltorium heh, the emporium of bolts?
16:28 GuShH I have a similar store relatively close... they have EVERYTHING you can think of
16:29 GuShH some things are more expensive, some are cheaper... but they've got it.
16:29 GuShH price difference becomes irrelevant if you factor the time it takes to go around stores (and gasoline, etc)
16:29 GuShH since any other place would not stock what you were looking for, generally.
16:30 RifRaf GuShH, indeed, so much better than the big hardware placem is inside a tradie shop, where we get alot of day to day stuff to work with
16:30 RifRaf thats where i was able to walk in and get thick brass nuts for example
16:30 GuShH darn these last electrodes I bought were crap, either overcooked or they had humidity... a mixture I'd say, some won't sustain an arc, others worked fine, and others just plain welded like shit. I'm positive it's the electrodes, ran a bead with one of the old ones (already ran out) and I didn't have any issues
16:31 GuShH oh yeah I was looking for some long brass screws and nobody had them except for these guys
16:31 RifRaf time for work already :/ , am sure time is moving alot faster now
16:31 GuShH takes them 4-5 minutes to find the stuff, but they have it.
16:35 eadthem mmm doubled the weight of my order shipping did not go up on bolt depo
16:36 eadthem got the bottom shaft block bolts for bandsaw, (9 and 10 inch 3/8
16:37 eadthem new lift bolts for the table saw table
16:37 eadthem and screws for all the dell GX260, 270 280 we had donated to the computer refurb at church that all need new caps
16:38 eadthem next question, anyone recommend a brand/style of bandsaw blade
16:38 eadthem i need 116 inches
16:40 eadthem 117 might also fit
16:41 GuShH not really, but when it comes to blades... buy the best one you can get.
16:41 eadthem ya but whats best
16:42 GuShH I don't own a bandsaw so I don't know...
16:43 GuShH I would not cheap out on the blade though
16:43 GuShH does Bosch make them?
16:43 eadthem dont know
16:43 eadthem amazon dosent have bosch
16:43 GuShH yeah they do
16:43 GuShH (they make them)
16:43 eadthem well not in bandsaw stuff
16:43 GuShH what about dewalt
16:43 eadthem ya dewalt dosent make bandsaw blades
16:44 eadthem i mean there kinda a special thing, every saw needs a diffrent lenght
16:44 GuShH they do sell them, so maybe rebrand
16:44 GuShH ah mostly portable stuff http://www.dewalt.com/tool-part-categories/Bi-Metal-Portable-Bandsaw-Blades.aspx
16:44 eadthem there are common sizes sadly 116 inches is not common
16:44 GuShH I know... they actually sell the big spools and there are places where they weld them to length
16:44 GuShH and they can also resharpen
16:45 eadthem what i have is a 16inch wheel saw, with the equivlent of a 5.5 inch riser block
16:45 ShH sh
16:45 GuShH time for a coffee
16:46 MrCurious 4 cups of coffee or more a day, and you will live a short life...
16:46 MrCurious he says as he slurps down half a can of pepsi
16:47 eadthem ya the pop will get you long before coffee
16:47 robotustra наркоманы
16:47 dthem as he drinks w
16:49 eadthem <robotustra> наркоманы "Addicts"
16:49 MrCurious yeah, i need to do something about this
16:49 MrCurious more addicting than slurm cola
16:50 eadthem well i found sutable tires for the bandsaw, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KVOTJU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
16:50 eadthem supose once the bolts and tires come in ile remesure to conferm its 117 or 116 and then get the blade
17:05 GuShH robotustra: sit on it!
17:06 GuShH I enjoy a good cup of coffee once a day instead of drinking gallons of soy based crap
17:06 GuShH that means freshly ground beans, espresso.
17:06 GuShH costs about the same if you know what you're doing
17:08 robotustra MrCurious1
17:15 GuShH bah I need electrodes...
17:20 MrCurious :)
17:21 Tom_itx eadthem, fastenal
17:23 Tom_itx MrCurious, just go cold turkey
17:23 Tom_itx i did
17:26 Tom_itx headaches for about a week but then you're good
19:20 MrCurious one of my servo's only runs now right when its plugged in
19:21 Tom_itx dead batteries?
19:24 MrCurious tried bench
19:25 MrCurious it only seems to engage for a few 1/2 second when it gets power
19:27 MrCurious maybe a short in teh cable
19:27 Tom_itx what changed?
19:27 MrCurious when i plug it in, it will jump to the configured location
19:27 MrCurious then goes limp
19:27 MrCurious i have similar sized servo's bet i can just wap out the logic board
19:28 Tom_itx does the pulse train quit?
19:28 MrCurious no. have 2 good servo's of same
19:28 MrCurious swapped them all aroound to different driver pins, and 2 consistently work, 1 consistently dodgy
19:28 Tom_itx so maybe you have a bad servo
19:28 MrCurious that is my belief
19:54 MrCurious 1 wire on cable is bad
19:54 MrCurious the servo signal wire
19:57 Tom_itx that'll do it
20:05 MrCurious not the cable
20:07 robotustra BTW, chip chinese webcams cable a good source of thing 30 gage wires
20:07 robotustra 30 or 32
20:46 MrCurious servo brain transplant a success
20:59 MrCurious nice. seems the board, resistor and motor math nice
21:07 MrCurious 3 servo's linked nd working :)

23:44 GuShH bah comparing cheapie drill presses... one claims 1/3HP (more or less 250W I assume) ... the other says 350W on the specs, but I think they both have the same motor...
23:44 GuShH they all come from the same factory, just different color scheme and very small price difference
23:44 ShH wonders if the 350W one comes with a vis
23:47 GuShH got the paint for the lathe stand... it should've been color matched, but the guy casually told me the machines are in need of calibration, after he ran the job... asshole. so yeah it's a bit off
23:48 GuShH depends how the light hits it, you can only tell if you're looking for a difference...
