02:31 RifRaf i am sad, wrecked so many bits today
02:31 RifRaf feel like a loser
02:32 rue_bed do you have the feed rate calculation?
02:32 rue_bed material, FSM cut rate, rpm, and flues?
02:32 RifRaf yep, yesterday cut beutifully with a single flute, today was a nightmare once that bit snapped
02:33 RifRaf have no single flute left except for work ones that i don't wanna break, just could not get a cut with 2 or 4 flute
02:33 RifRaf so i halved the spindle speed for two flute, and all it does is melt and clog
02:34 RifRaf didn't wanna increas feedrate cause trying to cut 4mm plate with a 3mm bit
02:34 rue_bed if you have the calc for the bit, you should know your feed rate
02:35 RifRaf 6500rpm, 13mm a second should have chip load of about 0.07mm
02:35 rue_bed k
02:35 RifRaf i tryed and tryed, wrecked so many bits, now looking for more single flute
02:35 rue_bed aluminum is stickey, I'v seen people who insist it has to be flood cooled or air cooled
02:35 RifRaf have mist coolant
02:36 rue_bed try just air
02:36 RifRaf i cut aluminium all the time, but only with single flute
02:36 rue_bed I'm interested in how that works
02:37 RifRaf no its not that, tryed 1mm at a time even, i gave up, need a new job
02:37 RifRaf sick of trying to make things
02:38 RifRaf air is not enough rue, need coolant
02:38 rue_bed you get like this every so often you know
02:39 rue_bed check out youtube videos, air seems to do a damn good job
02:39 RifRaf yes hopefully will get over it
02:39 RifRaf gonna try make something electronic for weekend instead
02:40 RifRaf have a simple project and parts in fromt of me, running leds from a single aaa cell
02:40 RifRaf maybe i can manage that
02:40 RifRaf some buck convertors to try out, good for 1.5V to 5V at 500ma
02:46 RifRaf gonna lay back and watch the machinist again, since i don't sleep anymore
03:39 Tom_itx leave the spindle speed where it was
03:43 Tom_itx carbide works best too
03:43 Tom_itx doesn't care so much about coolant or heat
03:44 Tom_itx http://zero-divide.net/index.php?page=fswizard&shell_id=199&load_tool_id=27011\
03:45 Tom_itx http://www.onsrud.com/plusdocs/Doc/index.html?model.code=FeedSpeeds\
03:45 Tom_itx those are both good
03:45 Tom_itx some aluminum just doesn't cut good either
04:07 Tom_itx also, you get more tool deflection with a 2 flute over a single flute. keep the rpm where it was but decrease the feedrate and try it. don't take a full cut with that small a bit, you need to make more than one pass on it
04:07 Tom_itx RifRaf, read the logs
04:09 Tom_itx zlog
04:13 Jak_o_Shadows I thought cutting stuff was a reasonably well-defined subject
04:21 RifRaf thats one twisted movie
04:21 RifRaf Tom_itx, ok
04:21 RifRaf Jak_o_Shadows, don't talk about cutting stuff
04:22 RifRaf Tom_itx, this is the same sheet yesterday, http://imagebin.org/267665
04:22 RifRaf cut just fine, i think i need sleep
04:23 RifRaf not the red and black, the shiny parts on floor, broke that bit though on the first lead in
04:23 RifRaf today
04:25 RifRaf and i know i forgot to set the plunge rate and thats what broke it i guess, and the other bits were inferior i guess, anyway not gonna make any more frames now
04:25 RifRaf will keep the ones that did cut for me, and just make composite ones if someone wants one
04:33 Jak_o_Shadows How much are switch-relay-solenoid-piston assembly systems used anywa?
04:35 RifRaf huh?
04:36 Jak_o_Shadows Like logic circuits made out of relays, switches, solenoid valves.
04:40 RifRaf they all make great logic devices
06:33 RifRaf will a buck convertor consume much power if its just connected to battery and no load?
06:33 RifRaf i want to use the switch on the other side
06:35 RifRaf using a 4pst switch so i can turn on different circuits
06:37 RifRaf rather than needing more than one buck with the switch before them
06:39 fRaf is grooving to the beegees, htf did they sing so high pitc
07:21 Tom_itx RifRaf, a couple things come to mind
07:21 RifRaf tom i'll take some pictures of my disaster tomorrow. should help a trained eye
07:21 RifRaf oh you mean the buck maybe?
07:21 Tom_itx beegees
07:22 RifRaf love em :)
07:22 RifRaf i figure they might be castratoes
07:22 Tom_itx but if your bits weren't center cutting and you plunged that would do it too
07:22 Tom_itx not all bits are
07:22 theBear heh, a couple things, hehehe
07:22 RifRaf was doing a 50mm leadin so the parts do not jump and fly out when done
07:23 Tom_itx anyway, keep the rpm but slow the feed down a bit
07:23 Tom_itx you get more flex with the 2 flute
07:23 RifRaf the cuts where i just plunged and then cut worked better
07:23 theBear mmm, plunging while doing x-y is never gonna work too well, the physics just don't add up
07:24 Tom_itx plunge is 1/2 the normal feed
07:24 RifRaf stevie wonder is rockin the house now, superstition
07:24 RifRaf yep was plunging at 0.75mm
07:24 Tom_itx wow you're way back there
07:24 RifRaf but upto 1.5mm/sec works ok
07:24 RifRaf i am in the way back zone tonight, no high tech here
07:25 Tom_itx i got some carbide .125 cutters a while back and they work great
07:26 RifRaf have not even turned on soldering iron yet, but still drug free, am starting to think thats my problem
07:26 Tom_itx also keep the cutter as short as possible
07:26 RifRaf yes, was only about 15mm outside tool holder
07:27 RifRaf i should upload some movies i took of it cuting well yesterday, took camera to work
07:27 Tom_itx those feed/speed links above are pretty good
07:27 RifRaf but its boring, need to edit a bit, and noisy
07:27 Tom_itx you can download one of them as a program
07:27 RifRaf yeah i looked, was very close to what i was doing
07:28 RifRaf omg, blame it on the boogie, i need to get up and dance like theBear
07:29 theBear hehe, you're gonna remember that aren't yer ?
07:29 RifRaf for ever
07:29 theBear i regret nothing ! i worked hard, i played hard
07:30 RifRaf same, no regrets
07:30 theBear :)
07:32 RifRaf my poor neighbours :)
07:32 theBear hehe, ahh for the times we all lived in industrial areas and cow paddocks :)
07:32 fRaf tries to find 55 on the volume
07:32 theBear that's WAY louder than 11
07:33 RifRaf it only goes to 50
07:33 theBear "now it goes to 20, that's 9 louder innit ?"
07:35 RifRaf damn my mediemonkey does a good job of finding good tunes, using last.fm
07:35 RifRaf mediamonkey*
07:36 RifRaf they are all on the pc but i never know what to pick from 180k of tunes, so i find a song i like and it does the rest
07:37 Tom_itx you should zip em em and send em
07:38 RifRaf 2tb of mp3 on here
07:38 Tom_itx heh
07:38 RifRaf bit more than a simple zip
07:39 Tom_itx k, time to run
07:39 RifRaf later
07:40 Tom_itx i just move a bunch of cd's to the pc the other day to load them on players
07:40 RifRaf and fully sorted tagged to the max
07:40 RifRaf i can find by moods, genre, bpm, so many things
07:41 theBear really ? that could work for me, 180bpm, 200bpm, 250+bpm, these are the moods i have trouble finding new music for
07:41 RifRaf spend many months sortuing them, not alot from the last 2 years, but has there been much decent lately, nope, apart from songs using the same riffs
07:42 RifRaf theBear, yep i put alot of time into this collection
07:42 RifRaf i wrote the plugins for last.fm even
07:42 RifRaf to help label the tracks
07:43 RifRaf not for last.fm, but for musicbrainz
07:43 RifRaf using last.fm to help
07:43 RifRaf so i know it finds what i like
07:45 Tom_itx your bands are probably different than ours
07:45 RifRaf i have quite a variety of tastes, its not mine, the plugins do the work depending on your taste, not mine
07:46 RifRaf has been using by millions of people now
07:46 RifRaf but someone has taken over the plugin since i moved back to other projects
07:47 RifRaf i still using mine, cause it works how i want it
07:47 RifRaf is like an itunes genius thingo, but before them
07:50 RifRaf am almost discoed out though, no bickies to keep me goin
07:53 RifRaf next seed song is, easy - commodores, lets see what this finds
07:53 RifRaf i wanna be high so high, but i am straight, so straight
07:53 RifRaf thank goodness for beer
07:55 RifRaf where is Gusher when you need a reality check?
07:59 RifRaf got some pretty leds to try out here, they all apper clear but the labels are things like W Y P B G R and some i cnanot read, wanna use em to light up some stuffs
08:00 RifRaf they even came with resitors, but for now they just look blue till i get me goggles out in the morn'
08:01 RifRaf seems i am talking to myself, will be back when sober :)
08:03 Faek No!
08:03 RifRaf lol, you like the entertainment?
08:04 zoplrdb ( ._.)
08:04 RifRaf i will be back in a few hours, i don't sleep anymore
08:04 RifRaf but no work for 2 days, yay
08:06 RifRaf go watch the machinist, feel so much like him right now but i have no blood dripping from the freezer
08:23 theBear :)
08:24 RifRaf theBear, have you seen it?
08:24 theBear yeah, i think i told you to see it the first time
08:25 theBear either way we've discussed it :)
08:25 RifRaf lol that would have been a few years back, have seen it 3 times now, thank goodness for momory loss, it always surprises me
08:25 theBear i never used to get it, damned curse.... but as time goes on i find you get used to it
08:26 theBear memory loss that is, not the movie :)
08:26 RifRaf yep
08:27 theBear i like getting rid of the curse, even if it is medication driven, but it definately takes getting used to... reminding yourself that maybe you don't actually remember something
08:28 RifRaf i have even started having dreams lately, after not dreaming for so long its almost like another world
08:29 theBear heh, these days i seem to dream more than actual sleep, it's hard to sleep when you never expend any energy
08:30 RifRaf been a hard work week here, so fall asleep early after few beers but wake up at 1am and thats it, was vacuuming the house at 3am this morn :/
08:30 RifRaf thats printer mess i showed last night is gone now, clean carpet
08:31 RifRaf this is all in spare room now http://imagebin.org/267666
08:39 fRaf calls last dr
08:41 RifRaf the bear you think a buck convertor will draw much power when there is no load on the other side?
08:41 RifRaf i think it still could, will be tomorrow before i can test though
08:41 theBear umm, can't see why it would, the feedback should reduce the duty cycle to practically nothing
08:42 RifRaf am going from 1.5V to 5V, must be the magic coil thing that does it
08:42 RifRaf ok cool, that would be nice if its the case
08:42 theBear that's a boost converter
08:42 theBear but nevertheless
08:42 RifRaf oh yeah, must be a boost then
08:42 theBear i used to get it backwards, but now i think buck and boost, boost MUST be up, so buck is down
08:43 RifRaf i see a coil, 2 chips, 2 resistors and a cap, and wat appears to be an smd led, that i could unsolder if it shows me when battery connected
08:44 RifRaf 2 caps
08:44 theBear probly input and output filter if there only 1 coil
08:44 RifRaf one chip and a diode
08:44 RifRaf will find a lik, is very simple
08:45 theBear hmm, what order do these bourne movies go in ? identity ultimatum and err, supremacy
08:45 theBear amazing what a good movie can do for a shitty actor :)
08:45 RifRaf a bit like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-DC-Boost-Converter-Step-Up-Module-1-5V-to-5V-500mA-/121156910470?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c3583bd86
08:46 RifRaf i remebr the bourne identity only, i think that was first
08:46 theBear hope so, cos i just watched it first and noticed i wasn't sure :)
08:46 theBear mmm, the one in the picture is a pair of caps on output and one on input
08:47 RifRaf yep mine looks the same, is probly the one i bought
08:47 RifRaf got 5 of em here to try out for the weekend
08:47 theBear could be, and seriously, i worked that out in 10 seconds from the picture, you got 1 in yer hand and 4 on the table, c'mon man !
08:47 theBear you even been to school for this :)
08:48 RifRaf for a short while
08:48 RifRaf back in the crazy 80's
08:49 theBear cool, sequel is supremacy.... and that new r/h google movie info panel reminded me it's not good will hunting, so i don't have to see those other hopeless actors ! bonus !
08:49 RifRaf i cannot see anymore, is amazing what i find wheni put glasses on
08:49 theBear and all i learned in the 80s was the alphabet and maths, so you should be way ahead of me :)
08:50 RifRaf i was experimenting back then, was too busy having fun
08:50 theBear funny how age differences work on %'s... we probly wouldn't have had much to talk about if we met in the 80s <grin>
08:50 theBear by which you mean doing labs for school right ? <biggrin>
08:51 RifRaf guess i am still doing the same, they think i am stupid at work, but also the opposite, i make them alot of money still
08:51 theBear i remember experimenting.... generally the outcome was "eff yeah ! that experiment was successful ! i'll be implementing THAT in the future"
08:51 RifRaf am ready for another change, wondering what my next career will be
08:52 theBear meh, you ain't been there long, give it a couple years and they'll notice you ain't stupid AND you make them a lot of money
08:52 theBear and yeah, by then you'll definately be ready for another one, least that's what i find
08:52 theBear ooh, time to put scetti in the water i bet, i can smell it boiling
08:52 RifRaf yep, if i can curt aluminium a bit better i might stay, todat i thought there was no point, was rather pissed off
08:53 RifRaf heh the typos are starting to add up to my blood achohol level, might have to watch another movie soon
08:56 theBear i gotta do the washing one day soon, i had this bad habit 'recently' of putting my beer-warmer in the back pocket when i shift onto cheaper/heavier things later in the evening, and i ain't seen it for weeks :)
08:56 theBear well, my favourite one, naturally i got many backups, i'm no amatuer :)
09:04 RifRaf heh, i find so many thing in the washing maching i forgot to remove
09:04 theBear hehe ya bum
09:04 theBear didn't you ever watch yer mum emptying pockets ?
09:06 RifRaf oh yes i did, but its kinda fun to find the coins and stuff, the notes gets a bit shriveled up in the induf=stial dryer though
09:06 RifRaf most usb sticks survive though
09:07 RifRaf but i just lost alot of cool stuff on this 8gb one that i cannot read anymore, lots of 3d design stuff i never backed up
09:07 theBear hehe
09:07 theBear and bummer, in that order
09:07 RifRaf was just using it for work to home stuff and back, and never put it anywhere else
09:07 theBear and after those two, CHECK YOUR POCKETS, FOO' !
09:07 eBear pities
09:07 eBear sm
09:07 RifRaf yes am slowly learning
09:08 Faek Shit i accidentally ignored RifRaf
09:08 RifRaf lol, you dickhead
09:09 theBear spastic !
09:09 Faek I blame ipad. I saw it happen but thought i'd ignored myself in a different channel (where i am the only person present)
09:09 RifRaf this is where all the stupid stuff happens
09:09 theBear just stay away the ignore button ffs !
09:10 Faek It's when i accidentally touch your names the option comes up
09:10 RifRaf theBear, i bet he did it on purpose, serves him right, now he will never know the true meaning of life we were discussing before
09:10 theBear why are you touching our names ?
09:11 ace4016 groping, the 2013 way
09:11 theBear that's ok, since i learned the meaning i don't really feel the need to share it with plebians :)
09:11 Faek Because your names are right next to the list of channels which i was trying to touch
09:11 theBear well, practice your touching ! most of us perfected it in our teens :)
09:11 ace4016 lol
09:13 Faek Heh
09:20 RifRaf just wentout side for smoke and realised my water pump on the water tank is running constantly but i have no tap on, that must be annoying the neighbourhood
09:20 RifRaf will deal with it tomorrow
09:23 RifRaf i guess the loud music is nothing compared to the whine of the pump, so all is good
09:24 fRaf turns up the volume to 50 a
09:25 theBear herm, is that err, good ? wtf is the water going ?
09:25 RifRaf i am pretty sure its running dry, no water anywhere
09:25 RifRaf solenoid must be stuck
09:26 theBear hmm, will it last all night ? maybe you should cut the power
09:27 theBear not to "harsh your buzz" or anything, just ya know, in the morning a dead pump will 'harsh' you way more, i imagine :)
09:27 RifRaf probably been happening for weeks, i have wondered about the noise before now, i thought they neighbours daughter was having a long shower, we share the same tank but different pumpds
09:28 RifRaf amazing what you find with a drug free head
09:28 theBear lol
09:29 RifRaf they must hate me :)
09:29 theBear nah, they probably fell for yer boyish charm
09:29 RifRaf heh
09:29 RifRaf or they think i have a massive hydro setup but too sraced to say anything
09:30 theBear who knows ? have you had a haircut since i seen you ? <grin>
09:31 RifRaf well i certainly need one, was going in for the chop tomorrow, and even considering chopping off the goatie and moe this weekend after i get a haircut
09:32 theBear good god man ! get a grip on yourself !
09:32 RifRaf lol
09:35 RifRaf will be ten years younger then, and work will be sure i am looking for anothe job
09:36 theBear but will it actually advantage you in any way ? cos the disadvantages are many !
09:37 RifRaf well geting rid of the grey bits will surely help, just been lazy machinist
09:37 theBear pfft, grey bits just prove how long you been awesome for
09:37 RifRaf heh
09:40 MrCurious woo hoo new laptop day!
09:40 RifRaf MrCurious, did you get a gay macbook?
09:40 MrCurious no, one of these http://www.rakuten.com/prod/acer-aspire-s7-391-6413-13-3-touchscreen-ultrabook-1920x1080-intel/252608991.html
09:41 RifRaf or ibook or watever they are these days
09:41 MrCurious oh wow. the one i got was i5. the link is now i7
09:41 RifRaf lol, sucker
09:42 RifRaf i7 never seemed that great for me, but i have on e in this box
09:42 MrCurious but yes, i will put osx on it
09:44 RifRaf i kill osx by looking at it, it just does not cope with misfits
09:44 RifRaf i think you need a full beard and no life to be able to use it properly
09:45 theBear and you're moving in the opposite direction ! seriously tho, you need a soulpatch or something to use it properly, full beard and no life is real unix
09:46 RifRaf theBear, that might be true, i have never made it to full time linux, is still running on the machines i don't have to touch though like server and firewall
09:47 theBear fulltime linux only takes half of a life and a partial beard (minimum)
09:47 RifRaf must be the lack of being able to grow a full beard, i can only get the goatie
09:48 RifRaf have been dealing with it since xenix days though
09:48 SquirrelCZECH theBear: there is connection between bear nad linux?
09:48 SquirrelCZECH hmm
09:48 SquirrelCZECH that explains a lot
09:48 MrCurious i got a weird beard :)
09:49 MrCurious i like unix. it isnt dipped in sugar and rendered pretty, sweet, and unusable
09:50 MrCurious xenix ? rly, your THAT old
09:50 theBear tho the rendering is pretty and sweet these days
09:50 RifRaf yep
09:50 MrCurious did you used to solder up your own computers?
09:50 RifRaf i have a xenix manual on the shelf
09:50 MrCurious and program them with switches and led's on front
09:50 RifRaf i solder lots of stuff all day long
09:50 MrCurious never know when you will need that page turner
09:51 RifRaf but windows does what i need for now as a desktop pc
09:51 RifRaf still refuse to pay for it though
09:52 RifRaf won't go to version 8 though
09:52 SquirrelCZECH :D
09:53 SquirrelCZECH RifRaf: ubuntu or any "beginner" friendly linux distribution
09:53 SquirrelCZECH could do good job for you too
09:53 theBear good, 'cos faict 8 is only good for facebook and 'sharing' with your 'friends'
09:53 SquirrelCZECH but there is always the thing with program compatibility :-/
09:53 ace4016 bingo
09:53 SquirrelCZECH theBear: and for tablet :D
09:53 SquirrelCZECH friend of mine got acer tablet with windows 8...
09:53 theBear sidenote: i don't do either of those things, ever
09:53 uirrelCZECH was pleasantly supr
09:54 MrCurious even beginner friendly linux is really unix, and very powerful!
09:54 ace4016 no linux is a unix
09:54 RifRaf yep i have to work for a living, and the apps i use are generally windows only, so not much choice, cad, router and design software
09:54 theBear it does what real unix does, but can still be very useful without being an expert
09:54 SquirrelCZECH RifRaf: it's not really possible than :-/
09:54 theBear these days my several year old netbook happily runs vms for windows utils i need to use
09:55 RifRaf the servers are still linux based cause all they have to do is be stable and share fileds fast
09:55 ace4016 not quite sure what the opposition of using windows is :P
09:55 ace4016 it's an OS. you run programs on it, that's it
09:55 theBear the amount of pain and time it has wasted for me, that's what the opposition is
09:55 MrCurious at&t purist!
09:55 SquirrelCZECH theBear++
09:55 ace4016 i suppose i've never had any windows specific pains though :P
09:55 SquirrelCZECH ace4016: with linux you got in 99% unlimited ways of customization
09:56 SquirrelCZECH you can make anything much effecient :-)
09:56 ace4016 i don't want unlimited ways of customization, i want to get to work from the start
09:56 MrCurious if only we could run MVS 360 on modern computers. a REAL os
09:56 theBear but even if you don't, everything is already much more efficient, you'd struggle to make it worse
09:56 SquirrelCZECH theBear: exactly! :D
09:56 theBear not to mention i can't afford new hw, i find my 'new' machines on the curb... i couldn't run a remotely supported windows if i wanted to
09:57 SquirrelCZECH ace4016: you see, you work from the start with 80% effeciency, I work after little struggle with making everything as effecient as it can be for 98% effeciency...
09:57 SquirrelCZECH :-)
09:57 theBear in the meantime i got fancy full 3d desktops and a VERY usable computer
09:57 Faek Media PC GO GO GO
09:57 theBear my any-day-now 'new' pc is my first machine with pci-e graphics, for example
09:57 theBear well, pci-e anything
09:58 ace4016 SquirrelCZECH, not really...that's just fanboyism or anti-fanboyism talk
09:58 theBear i sure as hell don't have gb's of ram
09:58 SquirrelCZECH ace4016: I know what I am saying
09:58 theBear or gb's of disk to install on
09:58 RifRaf theBear, i so love not being an it tech anymore, have wiped so much hardware from my mind and much better for it, was sick of relearning every year
09:58 SquirrelCZECH ace4016: my OS is made that it consume as little computer resources as possible
09:58 MrCurious gb's? my first computer had 16k and we liked it just fine!
09:59 RifRaf now i just have to make sure workmates can comnnect to the server and have data backed up
09:59 SquirrelCZECH ace4016: so my CAD etc.. can use the rest
09:59 theBear mmm, i fix the odd pc for friends WITH beer/smokes/food as payment, but i'm much happier... these days soldering new components into a dead phone is less painful than a 'simple' broken windows fix
09:59 ace4016 i don't like dicking around much with technology. most devs, even on the linux side, suck. i'll just use the system that they dictate rather than wasting my time fitting a square peg into a round hole
09:59 Faek No seriously fuck you medatomb
09:59 theBear and i'll keep using free hardware and generally being much happier overall in life
09:59 Faek Mediatomb*
09:59 SquirrelCZECH ace4016: I do not have even single piece of fancy graphics on my system, while it looks still "nice" :-)
09:59 RifRaf ace4016, i know at you mean, but i can use either and understand it when required
10:00 ace4016 yup
10:00 ace4016 i can use and do use both
10:00 ace4016 :P
10:00 MrCurious who is mediatomb?
10:00 Faek My media streaming service on my media pc
10:00 ace4016 to me, all OSes suck, as do most applications. so hating on one over the other just seems silly to me. they have thier uses, and tbh, i'd rather not waste time trying to create my own solution every single time
10:01 theBear they MIGHT all suck, but they don't all suck equally, if that is in fact the case
10:01 MrCurious sometimes you just have to hate for the sake of hating...
10:01 Faek Always crashes when i switch apps from xbmc to a different app on my ipad
10:01 ace4016 there's too much hate in the world
10:01 ace4016 i'll spare it for others
10:01 theBear also, these sound like the words of someone that 'tried' desktop linux long ago and is out of touch
10:01 ace4016 i've used and still use linux :P
10:02 ace4016 you can use both you know
10:02 ace4016 you don't *have* to hate one and like the other
10:02 ace4016 of course, for most people, that's just crazy talk
10:02 ace4016 everything must be in extremes
10:02 theBear if you can afford relatively modern drives you can, i only got 2 drives bigger than 80gb
10:02 ace4016 i suppose i can
10:02 theBear my server runs 2*6gb and a single 10gb
10:03 ace4016 500GB hdd with 8GB of ram
10:03 ace4016 i'm looking to upgrade though
10:03 RifRaf wow they have 10gb drives now?
10:03 RifRaf er i thought you meant tb
10:04 theBear but many years ago i refused to support clients who use windows, and not only are my clients happier, i am happier... i just can't feel good about claiming to support something where a lot of things can ONLY be fixed with a wipe and reinstall, and yes, i DO know a LOT of low level windows stuff, but the fact remains
10:04 theBear no, i meant gb
10:04 theBear and you just became un-funny :)
10:04 RifRaf my internet is a pocketwifi now, gave up on phonelines
10:04 RifRaf but it sucks, but its cheap and does what i need
10:04 theBear the adsl here is by far the most reliable net connection of ANY kind i've ever seen, it's really amazing
10:05 theBear at least so long as you pay the bills
10:06 SquirrelCZECH :D
10:06 uirrelCZECH jost got "cable" inte
10:06 RifRaf am down to $50 a month for wifi and mobile now, and still get the job down, if i need big files thats wat work is for
10:06 theBear anyway, i musta been up 5 hours now, i gonna finish this movie and go to bed... cya all on the 'flipside' as the kids used to say
10:06 RifRaf wat movie theBear? i need one to watch an try fall asleep with
10:07 theBear 2nd bourne, whatever i said it was earlier
10:07 RifRaf ah yes
10:07 theBear dunno if i'd recommend it, but it's watchable
10:07 RifRaf i never got into the first one must so will ook for some other movie i have forgotten
17:08 RifRaf yay first decent sleep in 2 weeks, only took 1/2 a carton
17:37 Tom_itx attack the weekend with vigor!
17:45 RifRaf sure am, spring cleaning outside already
17:51 Tom_itx no wonder the interweb went down last evening.. lightening hit one of the trees in the yard
17:51 Tom_itx blew the bark off the side of it
18:01 GuShH hrmm got an skf bearing, asked for 6000Z got a 6000-2RSH ... that's double rubber seal... should I pop one out with tweezers or send it back? sigh
18:02 GuShH what's the main difference between metal and rubber seal?
18:02 GuShH temperature rating?
18:04 GuShH I don't need to shield against moisture...
18:12 Tom_itx send it back and make them pay the shipping
18:17 GuShH Tom_itx: local store
18:17 GuShH mental note... always double check, never trust anyone.
18:17 GuShH to them it's all the same
18:17 GuShH instead of saying "I don't have these, but I can offer you XYZ"
18:19 GuShH It's to replace the main bearing on an angle grinder, the original is a 6000Z and that's what I asked for... any reason I couldn't pop one of the shields and use it as is?
18:19 Tom_itx or just use it as is
18:19 GuShH originally the bearing is lubricated by the same grease in the gearbox
18:19 GuShH so they used a single shield
18:20 GuShH I guess I could use it as-is and see if it lasts long enough
18:21 GuShH need to retrieve the specs on this specific model now...
18:23 GuShH same crap different seals, should work.
18:23 GuShH I was worried about the rubber getting chewed up with sparks but it seems to be protected by the housing anyway and heat is not an issue in the center
18:23 GuShH (let's just say I'm taking precautions -- I don't want this thing to fall apart while it's spinning)
18:24 GuShH the original bearing has a lot of play and feels grainy so it needs to go.
18:30 Tom_itx that or scrap it and get a HF grinder and watch it fall apart as you take it outta the box
18:59 RifRaf gurneyed the driveway, house, xternal windows and under the awnings, thats a good start to the weekend
22:37 Jak_o_Shadows Why are flashing RGB LED's cheaper than regular RGB LED's
22:37 Tom_itx cause they're flashy
22:37 Tom_itx who want's a flashing led?
22:37 RifRaf they aren't on as long
22:42 MrCurious only thing flashing led's are good for is that magnet + battery thing where they stick to buildings
22:43 Jak_o_Shadows It's just silly because it's not actually that expensive, it's just that ebay has so many of them.
22:45 Jak_o_Shadows Hmm, the ones with multiple legs are easier to control arn't they
22:46 Tom_itx yeah, it's much easier to walk on more than one leg
22:46 Jak_o_Shadows If it's just the two legs, you have to screw around with voltage to get red, then screw around with polarity to get green/blue
22:46 Jak_o_Shadows eg http://www.aliexpress.com/item/100pcs-Ultra-Bright-5mm-4-pin-RGB-Diffused-Common-Anode-LED-Red-Green-Blue-MA475/1212191592.html v http://www.aliexpress.com/item/100Pcs-5mm-RGB-Light-Discrete-LED-Bulb-Light-Luminous-Diode/1171618571.html
22:47 rue_shop2 hahah
22:48 Jak_o_Shadows Also, for driving them, I was going to sample some http://www.ti.com/product/tlc5940, or maybe buy them.
22:50 Jak_o_Shadows So one of those for each colour of a bunch of LED's
22:51 RifRaf Jak_o_Shadows, i paid like $8 for a single one of those at jaycar when i was desparate
22:52 Jak_o_Shadows haha, course.
22:52 Jak_o_Shadows I'm not entirely sure http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2pcs-TLC5940NT-TLC5940-TI-LED-Driver-DIP-28-LED-Driver-/261059339718?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc85965c6 is genuine
22:53 rue_shop2 it just occured to me that 1/4A is a high current for a battery to put out for 20hrs
22:59 Jak_o_Shadows and ebay slightly beats aliexpress by about a dollar: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/100pcs-Ultra-Bright-5mm-4-pin-RGB-Diffused-Common-Anode-LED-Red-Green-Blue-MA475-/171101062430?pt=AU_B_I_Electrical_Test_Equipment&hash=item27d66b051e
23:04 rue_shop2 it can be a tossup
23:12 Jak_o_Shadows ebay gives nicer receits
23:13 Jak_o_Shadows receipt
23:13 rue_shop2 aliexpress makes sure YOU ACTUALLY RECIEVE THE ITEM
23:16 RifRaf and no paypal fees
23:18 Jak_o_Shadows Paypal fees are what, 3%?
23:19 RifRaf something like that
23:20 RifRaf then you have ebays crazy exchange rates
23:20 RifRaf crappy
23:21 SleepersTide paypal sets their exchange rates, not ebay (AFAIK)
23:21 RifRaf yep, so getting away from paypal has a few benefits then
23:22 RifRaf have 2 red and black for sale right now, or white
23:22 RifRaf wrong windows*
23:22 SleepersTide hm, actually they're basically the same company, never mind
23:23 SleepersTide so ebay surely must have some say in what exchange rates paypal gives
23:25 Jak_o_Shadows Also, bugger, I do not have security torx sets, just a single normal torx screwdriver
23:27 rue_shop2 make a flat blade just the right width and hope its not tight...
23:28 Jak_o_Shadows Meh.
23:31 Jak_o_Shadows It'd only get me a 4.2V, 0.65A switching mode power supply, so it can wait
23:32 SleepersTide odd specs, is it for a battery charger or something?
23:32 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah.
23:33 Jak_o_Shadows Suppose it could be handy enough for powering 3.3V stuff
23:34 SleepersTide yeah
23:38 Jak_o_Shadows and 200 magnets. Why not.
23:49 theBear Jak_o_Shadows, i find a lot of things i don't/didn't have bits/screwdrivers for (small ones) are workable with a tight fitting flathead, personally i got a few varying age/quality/abusablness 'jewellers' screwdriver sets which are good for that kinda thing (i keep one 'like new' condition in both flat and phillips, then i got a whole bunch of ones from avg to highly abused and bent or filable/changable
23:49 theBear tips for this kinda thing
23:55 SleepersTide I have a big set of hex bits
23:55 theBear well, that's good for hex stuff <grin>
23:55 SleepersTide lol
23:56 SleepersTide I mean the ones that go in hex socket drivers
23:56 SleepersTide I'm sure there's a proper name for them
23:56 theBear oh, umm, yeah probly
23:57 theBear i got a couple sets, but they only go down to maybe (security and regular) torx size 1 or 2 (i get them mixed up) which isn't small enough for modern mobiles
23:58 theBear tho most mobiles only got regular not security torx, so i usually find a nice 'not the good set' tiny flathead that jams in nicely, maybe with a little file (they wanna be square and 'nice' so you don't damage the screws, i been doing repairs for my entire adult life, i should be able to not mess up screwheads :)
