01:15 MrCurious test
04:34 Jak_o_Shadows I find myself wanting to make POV bike wheel things
04:39 RifRaf http://imagebin.org/267664 http://imagebin.org/267665
04:39 RifRaf 4mm solid frame parts on the floor, they cut well
04:45 theBear Jak_o_Shadows, mmmm, seeing something like that it starts to look pretty cool again... i got a plan for a 'special
04:45 theBear ' implementation, something new and unique
04:45 Jak_o_Shadows I don't actually have a working bike though. The brakes dont' work on mine
04:47 Jak_o_Shadows also, waht type of sensor is that from a casette player?
04:49 theBear in other news, last year or so i was at old old work (damn ! 2-3 years ago now !) i had hd magnets on either side of my front wheel/spokes and various arrangements (test/learning/proof of concept) of coils and corey bits ziptied in between the spokes, and usually two little strings of leds, maybe 5 or 6 red and the same err, blue i think... didn't get the implementation down completely, they were only
04:49 theBear magical rings of colour when i was moving pretty fast, but between that and bench tests i'm sure something with just a handful of bits and pieces of 'scrap' parts/wire and a hd or two can make VERY pretty led displays... after that you gotta get a hipass filter going off the coils for a combined rotation sensor, and off you go, and i just let out the secret of my unique implementation, so err, keep it
04:49 theBear quiet and if you do it first just tell people it's magic or something :)
04:49 theBear huh tapehead where ?
04:49 theBear i'm one of the few remaining, and ONLY young techs in the country very experienced with tape machines, i'll know if you gimme a hint or two
04:52 theBear but before we never mention it again, i can't believe noone else came up with the idea... lots of wheel-powered generators for fixed lights (non-contact dynamo kinda deals in various setups, commercial and diy) out there, this just seemed so obvious when i was too lazy to swap batteries or make a real pov, and an hour later when i finished work, i had the first version of dim magic-spokeydokey-leds
04:53 Jak_o_Shadows http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00OMcTVagGJIbo/Magnetic-Head-MS283-CBT-62-.jpg
04:55 theBear they look like standard casette (1/8") heads, hmmm, the one that shows the tape-surface looks like a mono, but it could just be a subtle-visually stereo single-sided, the others with 4pins are most likely stereo
04:55 theBear they're basically just a little electromagnet with a nice smooth slippery surface where the tape presses against them
04:55 Jak_o_Shadows Usable for detecting magnets?
04:56 theBear so long as the magnets are moving
04:56 Jak_o_Shadows Cool, i'll look into that
04:57 theBear can't remember the internal coil setup, but they're literally (in this case) gonna be two electromagnets (iron with some wire coiled around it) side-by-side, and 'aimed' so they effect/see (output/input) each others area as little as possible, and they will be 'aimed' directly either side of that little line that goes thru the silver thing
04:57 theBear how old are you , you seriously haven't got a tapedeck to look at ? or just never wondered how they work before now ?
04:58 Jak_o_Shadows No, i have one, the parts are sitting in a container
04:58 Jak_o_Shadows You dont' really wanna use a reed switch in a pov setup that's all
04:58 theBear you could do a 'quadrature' STYLE thing with one 'sideways', sense approx speed (if fixed magnet strength) from voltage outputted, and the direction will be the order in which they output
04:58 theBear ahh for that, yeah, perfect !
04:59 theBear sorry, mind is elsewhere today, and there was a screwup with my very late internet bill and visa and i STILL haven't got any liquor AND i ran out of coffee/beans after only one medium strength coffee thismorning and i suspect i've been subconsciously putting off finishing that mess of a computer on the workbench ALL day :)
05:00 theBear got a scope and a magnet handy ?
05:00 Jak_o_Shadows No scope :{
05:00 theBear mmmk, erm, meter with a bargraph 'quick' display underneath the numbers ?
05:00 Jak_o_Shadows haha, nah, I have a couple of cheap DSE ones
05:01 theBear fairy nuff, just grab a small lowish voltage led, a normal red or green one, press it against a pair of pins (can pre-workout which are a pair by measuring resistance, it'll look like two not-connected coils)
05:01 theBear then wave a half-decent magnet past real quick you should see a nice tiny flash
05:02 theBear those ones will be BIG coils (lots of windings) 'cos they need to be real sensitive to 'hear' a slow moving magnetic tape sliding over them, should be enough to flick an led
05:04 Jak_o_Shadows Was there ever a colour code? I have a 3-wired one, red, black, white
05:06 theBear fwoo, i'd GUESS red and white were left and right, probly not in that order, and black gnd/common
05:06 theBear that's a kinda defacto audio standard, like rca cable colours inside and out
05:09 theBear but it's like testing headphones, two wires will read double the resistance to each other as the 3rd, the 3rd is common and the first 2 are a coil either side of it
05:14 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, the black is probably common, coil to coil is 400ohm, instead of 200
05:15 theBear sounds about right
05:16 Jak_o_Shadows So between, common and a coil?
05:18 theBear yeah, that'll probly be most effective
05:18 theBear if you just messing around/testing you can try the far ends of the coils, they will likely add with the bigger field of a magnet vs a slow moving tape
05:18 Jak_o_Shadows and if it doesn't work, make sure the LED works, flip the LED direction, then get a bigger magnet
05:21 RifRaf reprapville http://imagebin.org/267666
05:21 theBear heh basically, or just wait until you got something a little more sensitive, 200ohms of sensitive coil should be enough, but if yer unlucky it won't have the current to flash mr led
05:21 Jak_o_Shadows haha
05:21 theBear rifraprobates hangout in rifrapville
05:21 RifRaf heh
05:21 theBear damn man, you really gettin' serious about this printing stuff, you're on fire !
05:22 RifRaf yes i need rehad i think
05:22 RifRaf rehab*
05:23 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, not working. Find a scope, look for a voltage spike
05:23 theBear err, ri(f)hab ? :)
05:23 RifRaf theBear, you know i never do things by halfs, always full on or nothing
05:23 Jak_o_Shadows ?
05:23 theBear heh, there have been times i haven't had scopes, those times they ain't so easy to just 'find'
05:24 theBear RifRaf, it's true, it's one of the many things that makes you super-awesome !
05:24 RifRaf heh cheers
05:25 Jak_o_Shadows Oh, I can get access to a scope, it's just time-consuming and slightly awkward
05:26 theBear hmm, there's gotta be a better way.. what did i used to do ? hmm....
05:27 theBear oooh, if you got a hifi or amplified speakers or something, hook a coil or two up like inputs, and you can 'hear' the magnetic world around you, interesting things include equipment, particularly around the psu, particularly if it's a switcher (say the back of a pc) and cd mechanisms sound AWESOME, like robots in movies
05:27 theBear load/unload mech that is, not just spinning
05:28 theBear working hd probly sounds cool too
05:28 Jak_o_Shadows Haha, it can wait. I still need to figure out how i'm going to drive LED's first
05:29 theBear if you think of it sometime, give that a go, i forgot, haven't done it for years, but it's kinda cool AND amazing
05:31 KongfuPanda how come this channel only has one # ?
05:31 RifRaf KongfuPanda, does it matter?
05:31 KongfuPanda :) I make a mistake every time
05:32 theBear cos we're under the radar
05:32 theBear and we make a mistake with every other channel these days, n00b33 <grin>
05:33 KongfuPanda theBear, can I see you robot?
05:35 theBear erm, i could probly find a youtube video of me VERY drunk and disco dancing on rollerskates to bad modern "r+b" music, i think i do a couple poorly executed robot moves
05:35 Faek I think that is possibly close enough
05:36 theBear as much as i enjoyed them and woudl do it all again, i'm not proud of those days, you probly shouldn't browse too much related stuff
05:38 theBear damn, comes up 6th on google for "the bear brings it youtube" hehe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WF0YqaMnAg
05:38 theBear there ya go, enjoy
05:38 RifRaf lol
05:41 KongfuPanda ok
05:42 KongfuPanda theBear, is this you?
05:42 RifRaf i get #3 on youtube for threadless ballscrew, happy with that
05:42 RifRaf KongfuPanda, thats him :)
05:44 RifRaf i gotta get a printer made using it, still will be the first if i can do it this week
05:44 Jak_o_Shadows First on youtube for "Hot Hot Galaxy Sex"
05:44 Jak_o_Shadows Yay me
05:44 RifRaf lol
05:45 RifRaf Jak_o_Shadows, too afraid o search that
05:45 Jak_o_Shadows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DmIS7Y8F4E
05:48 Jak_o_Shadows I'd find it a right pain to to convert http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AU-3528-SMD-RGB-Waterproof-5M-60Led-M-LED-Strip-24-44-KEY-IR-12V2A-Power-/310691764238?pt=AU_Lighting_Fans&var=&hash=item4856ac180e into a pov setup wouldn't I
05:51 theBear KongfuPanda, long haired drunk on skates ? yeah, rif recognizes <grin>
05:51 KongfuPanda theBear, very typical programmer guy
05:51 KongfuPanda :D
05:53 theBear lol, technically i'm more of a electronics tech and soundguy, specially at that time, that was my bros 'flat' and mine next door, warehouse downstairs was the studios i built and ran until i noticed i was being completely screwed and lied to constantly and decided to move back this side of the country
05:55 theBear perfect arrangement for fun, huge place you could rollerskate into yer bros place, unlimited free beer from downstairs, could wander upstairs when i was watching the counter at nights and have a snack or a coffee or something, had cams on the counter AND motion-detecting alarm sound triggered off them so i could jog down the stairs before anyone could get within range of the till or asking me for somet
05:55 theBear hing, just walk out from the office all casual like :)
06:22 Jak_o_Shadows It turns out TI doesn't have any DIP sample shift registers
06:24 RifRaf well buy one
06:25 Jak_o_Shadows If i'm paying money for t, I want to plan it first.
06:25 RifRaf planing is always a good thing
06:29 RifRaf wow eqypt looks like not a nice place to be
06:29 Jak_o_Shadows yeah
07:03 theBear stupid google treating me like a child more and more every day ! i didn't type schematic 'cos i wanted circuit to be a keyword, i typed it 'cos i wanted stuff that had SCHEMATIC in it ffs !
07:04 theBear i don't want to know what kind of CIRCUIT you should plug your computer into in your house ! i wanna see a SCHEMATIC of a small part of your computer !
07:10 SquirrelCZECH theBear: you know, it's search engine for "mass" of people
07:10 SquirrelCZECH do you really expect that this thing expects that the person who searchs something is intelligent?
07:11 SleepersTide` theBear: you should be able to put quotes around a word to search for only that word, not synonyms
07:20 theBear oh, is that what quotes do now ? i suppose you also noticed it's been years since they meant "search for this exact phrase" like they should ... that one really bugs me
07:23 theBear last century there was the wwww (world wide web worm) and meatcrawler (combined something like 43 different search engine results in one nice well formatted page) and metacrawler (similar) etc etc, now there's just stupid bing and yahoo as alternatives, and every time i check, they are still shit (well, i don't check bing, screw those guys) AND they still look shit, tho recently google really accellera
07:23 theBear ted the "lets change good stuff to stupid useless 'features' as often as possible with no warning at all, preferably while the bear is halfway thru a HUGE intensive search for something that we made really hard to find with the last 'upgrade'" schedule, it'll look as shitty as yahoo in no time, not to mention be less usable, eek
07:24 theBear i wonder what yer need to start a search engine and keep it afloat until it gets popular enough to pay for REAL servers, not billions of containers all over the planet like the google-machine, but you know, enough to keep up
07:31 theBear to sum up, thanks for the tip SleepersTide`, it'll help a lot until i find an alternative to this increasingly steaming pile of world dominating shit
07:31 SleepersTide` mhm
07:32 theBear i spose it's like dealing drugs... the first one is always free... "can't you see you've gotten everyone addicted to this stuff ?" "heh, yeah, so now i'm gonna start CHARGING for it..."
07:32 theBear is there ANYTHING we can't learn from the east ? err, i mean cartoons
09:27 GuShH theBear: KMC4400R
09:28 GuShH conexant chipsets
09:57 GuShH RifRaf: looks like 608Z bearings will be good enough for a bearing conversion for the lathe, we'll see... I don't have the shafts right here to measure, it looks about right though for the compound, crosslide, etc. I'm not sure about the gears yet...
10:11 KongfuPanda hello
10:11 KongfuPanda I have a quick question
10:12 KongfuPanda if I'm sending commands to a microcontroller, let's say via a serial port, do I need to estimate how quickly the controller is able to read the commands and do stuff? If there is a build up of commands, something weird must happen, right?
10:14 KongfuPanda so it's better for me to set a delay on sending commands
10:20 zoplrdb ( ._.) wat.
10:20 KongfuPanda woot?
10:20 zoplrdb ( o_o) srs?
10:21 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, huh?
10:21 zoplrdb ( ^_^) wat.
10:21 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, what is your question?
10:21 zoplrdb ( -_-) wat?
10:22 KongfuPanda omg, you are crazy
10:22 zoplrdb ( @_@) srs?
10:23 zoplrdb jk, so with regards to your question
10:23 zoplrdb Maybe it might be a good idea to add some delay if the controller isn't able to keep up.
10:23 KongfuPanda I don't need to add a delay in the controller side, right?
10:24 KongfuPanda I added a 0.1 ms delay when reading the serial port
10:24 zoplrdb No, just the commands you send to it. If you send 1k commands in a second, and it can only process 500 per second, then what do you think happens to the other 500?
10:24 KongfuPanda 0.01 ms *
10:24 KongfuPanda well, it's running on 9200 baud rate
10:24 zoplrdb Right, the above was an example
10:25 KongfuPanda 9600 *
10:26 KongfuPanda which means it can transfer 9600 bits per second
10:26 KongfuPanda or it means it will transmit with speed of 1 bit per 0.1 ms
10:27 KongfuPanda so there is no point to read it more often than that
10:27 KongfuPanda that's first point
10:27 KongfuPanda second point is that if I send let's say 1000 of 7 bit commands in big push, the controller won't be able to process them at 0.1ms
10:28 KongfuPanda it will take some time per command
10:28 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, so far, you agree?
10:29 KongfuPanda so I should implement pauses on the computer side to wait roughly for the command execution to complete
10:33 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, you don't really know :)
10:33 zoplrdb ( ^_^) wat
10:35 zoplrdb jk, I have no clue what you need to do. As I said earlier, you need a delay; but if you're still asking what you need I'm assuming you tried the delay and it didn't work out.
10:35 zoplrdb s/you need/you probably need/
10:52 KongfuPanda no, it's working, but not very fast
10:52 KongfuPanda I'm just thinking if I can remove the delays, but it seems it does freeze after some operation
10:53 KongfuPanda maybe buffer overflow or something
10:53 GuShH KongfuPanda: you need to know at what speed your serial link is working
10:53 KongfuPanda 9600 baud rate
10:53 GuShH so that both devices can run at the same speed.
10:53 GuShH then depending on the protocol you might want to make sure the data is getting there or not
10:54 KongfuPanda GuShH, yeah, that's the first consideration
10:54 GuShH two different things that is, the interface vs the data protocol
10:54 KongfuPanda GuShH, exactly. I think I will have to keep it as it is.
10:54 KongfuPanda Let me record a video for you to see where I'm getting delays.
10:54 ShH stares at zop
10:54 zoplrdb ( ._.) wat.
10:55 GuShH he's going to make a video
10:55 zoplrdb uehuehue
10:55 GuShH let's hope we don't see his naked reflection on some screen.
10:55 KongfuPanda yeah, you can judge if my robot is too slow
10:55 KongfuPanda I'm not naked in the house
10:56 GuShH we don't know that
10:56 zoplrdb I want to see this robot
10:56 GuShH wink wink
10:56 zoplrdb 5$ says we see his little pickle on the video
10:57 GuShH his pickled pickle
10:57 zoplrdb hheehehhe
10:58 zoplrdb KongfuPanda, What type of robot is it?
11:01 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, hexapod
11:02 zoplrdb Nice.
11:02 KongfuPanda I'm uploading the video
11:02 KongfuPanda might take a bit, only 1Mbit/s upload speed there
11:02 zoplrdb Where you uploading to?
11:02 KongfuPanda dropbox
11:03 zoplrdb fml.
11:03 zoplrdb srs?
11:03 KongfuPanda I got an app on phone to upload to dropbox straight away
11:03 KongfuPanda what's srs?
11:03 KongfuPanda and fml
11:03 KongfuPanda some kind of programming languages? like xml
11:03 KongfuPanda and SRS WOW sound system
11:03 zoplrdb srs = r u srs bro? fml = f**k my life.
11:03 GuShH lol
11:04 GuShH KongfuPanda: he comes from the land down under....
11:04 GuShH where women glow and men plunder!
11:04 zoplrdb Just bored tbh. Nothing to do atm.
11:04 zoplrdb =(
11:05 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, are you a student?
11:05 zoplrdb GuShH, What are you doing?
11:05 GuShH can has cheezburger?
11:05 GuShH I'm staring at ball bearings.
11:07 zoplrdb Why are you staring at ball bearings?
11:07 KongfuPanda he likes balls
11:07 zoplrdb uehuehe you made a funny!
11:07 KongfuPanda mhahah
11:09 zoplrdb How long have you been working on your robot?
11:10 KongfuPanda ok, finished uploading. The walking is not optimized yet. This is just to test. I'm sending positions to 18 servos at a time, and then it moves. 18 positions, move. The delay occurs during the command is sent. (the movement I can slow down, I just increased the speed to be able to see where the delay is)
11:10 zoplrdb Link pls.
11:11 KongfuPanda hmm, vlc can't play it back on my computer
11:11 KongfuPanda https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26776513/20130815_164228.mp4
11:11 KongfuPanda you can try
11:12 KongfuPanda on WMP it's working well.
11:12 KongfuPanda Unfortunately the video is upsidedown :D
11:12 zoplrdb Downloading atm, ETA 4m
11:13 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, do you know how to rotate video?
11:13 zoplrdb I do, but I'll just hang like bat for this viewing.
11:15 zoplrdb ETA 25s and counting!
11:15 KongfuPanda when you watch it, you will see the hexapod making a pause. That is when the serial sends commands via serial to 18 servos
11:16 KongfuPanda if I slow down the servo movements, it's unnoticable really.
11:16 KongfuPanda I think it doesn't have to be very fast
11:17 zoplrdb I see the video
11:17 zoplrdb I SEE IT!
11:18 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, it's not too slow, right?
11:18 zoplrdb Doesn't seem too bad
11:19 KongfuPanda I normally move servos slowly, in that case it's not even obvious that there is a pause
11:19 zoplrdb Btw that isn't a hexapod...
11:19 KongfuPanda I think I'll keep doing it
11:19 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, what is it?
11:19 KongfuPanda hex = 6
11:20 zoplrdb Ah right, nvm my brain broke there for a bit
11:20 KongfuPanda yeah man.. someone needs to put you in a home
11:20 KongfuPanda :D
11:20 zoplrdb Was thinking 8 for some stupid reason
11:21 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, that's octapod
11:21 zoplrdb Right
11:21 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, here is another older video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FxWpbLiw5g
11:22 KongfuPanda with that video I don't send command via serial, I only tell it to walk and the direction. The disadvantage is that I have to re-program the controller if I want to change things slightly
11:22 KongfuPanda there is no pause there obviously
11:24 zoplrdb What type of controller do you use for that?
11:24 GuShH zoplrdb: a conversion for the lathe
11:24 GuShH that's why I'm staring at the ball bearings ....
11:24 GuShH they're pretty much the right size, but some engineering needs to be applied.
11:24 GuShH ie. new parts made, adapters, etc.
11:24 GuShH anyway gotta go
11:25 zoplrdb o/
11:26 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, a controller for enthusiasts :) the AXON 2 (society of robots) and ebay servos
11:26 KongfuPanda I think I need to replace a few of them
11:28 zoplrdb I was actually asking about the controller you hold in your hands, but ok :p
11:35 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, what's your dream robot?
11:35 zoplrdb A spider, and a flyer.
11:36 zoplrdb Maybe both. Splyer.
11:37 KongfuPanda too heavy
11:37 zoplrdb I know, the second line was a joke.
11:40 zoplrdb Has anyone worked on a decent centipede bot?
11:40 zoplrdb ¿
11:43 theBear i've seen a decent movie about a centipede
11:43 KongfuPanda eww
11:43 theBear well, it's kinda a centipede, heh, po here has seen it
11:43 zoplrdb KongfuPanda, You don't like centipedes?
11:43 theBear nah, just movies with them in the title i suspect
11:44 zoplrdb KongfuPanda, https://arthurevans.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/scutigera1.jpg
11:44 zoplrdb This guy lives in your attic.
11:45 zoplrdb He's a good guy. Kills all sorts of other insects for you.
11:45 KongfuPanda eww
11:45 zoplrdb Did you check the link?
11:45 KongfuPanda how many pod is that? :D
11:45 KongfuPanda not a hexapod
11:48 theBear huh ? a tall skinny superfit old black dude lives in my attic... well, technically it's his flat, but it's got a lot of the characteristics that an attic would have
11:49 theBear or at least a couple.... it's on top of my ceiling for example
11:49 theBear and under the roof :)
11:50 KongfuPanda theBear, it touches your face at night with all the legs
11:50 zoplrdb hah. feel ticklish?
11:51 KongfuPanda why does it need so many legs?
11:52 zoplrdb ¿The real question: why do you not have as many legs?
11:52 zoplrdb Everyone needs more legs.
11:52 theBear the black dude from upstairs does that to me at night ? ooooohh nasty
11:53 zoplrdb He likes to watch you sleep.
11:54 zoplrdb ẅḧäẗ¿
11:56 zoplrdb theBear, what are you working on atm?
11:57 theBear http://testing.rememberit.com.au/pics/workshop%2015-8-13%20plus%20random/IMAG0192.jpg just finished cleaning up from that there test setup thismorning (image 194 shows the scope with it all working just like that) so i can finally use my shiny new core2duo to replace this p4-ht and not lose my trackball... first board intel ever shipped with no ps2
11:58 KongfuPanda looks complicated
11:59 zoplrdb nice
12:00 theBear well, it's fairly modern mobo, and i had to probe around to find which missing components and bits and pieces were for the ps2 remnants from the dev/pre-sale stages, and of course workout what those components should be, and put them in, it's real neat now, even managed to salvage one of those 4pack smd resistor arrays from a dead board and get it in there
12:00 theBear so yeah, little complicated, lotta fiddly
12:11 zoplrdb KongfuPanda, What languages do you know?
12:11 KongfuPanda Russian, Ukrainian, English, and a bit of Spanish (school) and I'm trying to learn basic Italian
12:12 zoplrdb I meant programming languages
12:12 KongfuPanda oh
12:12 zoplrdb You live in the UK?
12:12 KongfuPanda si
12:12 GuShH should've answered in pakie
12:12 KongfuPanda I was taught TUBRO PASCAL at school :D And then Borland Delphi in high school. Then C basics at University , and I learned MATLAB myself
12:12 GuShH would've been funnier.
12:13 GuShH "si" works for US residents as a joke only.
12:13 zoplrdb How long has it been since UK schools taught programming?
12:13 ShH slaps KongfuP
12:13 KongfuPanda I use Matlab for everything these days
12:13 zoplrdb How old are you?
12:13 GuShH Since Sir Sinclair decided to make silly bikes.
12:13 KongfuPanda Computing A-level teaches Delphi
12:14 KongfuPanda zoplrdb, I'm 25 since last Friday :)
12:14 zoplrdb Ah ok
12:14 zoplrdb I know CPP
12:14 zoplrdb No, not C++-
12:14 KongfuPanda GuShH, that's a funny saying :D
12:14 zoplrdb C/Perl/Python
12:14 KongfuPanda cool
12:14 KongfuPanda I heard a lot of people use Python in sciences
12:15 zoplrdb Yeah, Python is nice but I hate the Twisted library.
12:15 KongfuPanda I guess if they don't have money for matlab
12:15 zoplrdb Perl's POE is much better.
12:15 zoplrdb The Twisted writer didn't sit down to plan a single thing. They just wrote whatever came to their head at the time. Complete mess.
12:16 zoplrdb IMHO anyway
12:16 KongfuPanda yeah IMHO
12:17 zoplrdb You agree?
12:17 KongfuPanda check out this cutie: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23701151
12:17 Hukka Firstly one library is a bit irrelevant when talking about a language. Secondly, quite many disagree about the quality of the library
12:18 Hukka Especially about the plan, considering that it's taken pretty much as is into the upcoming official async library
12:18 zoplrdb Hukka, Twisted is more than "just a library". It's the equivalent of Boost's asio to C++. It's almost like an extension to the language.
12:18 SquirrelCZECH ow :D
12:18 Hukka Eh, no
12:19 uirrelCZECH just hates twisted because of completely different thing
12:19 zoplrdb Give me the name of one Python program using networking without Twisted.
12:19 SquirrelCZECH mine
12:19 SquirrelCZECH next();
12:19 zoplrdb Another.
12:19 SquirrelCZECH zoplrdb: that's the stupiest thing about twisted
12:19 SquirrelCZECH it is everywhere
12:20 Hukka zoplrdb: Paramiko
12:20 SquirrelCZECH and 90% people do not know even one different library for networking
12:20 Hukka Tornado
12:20 SquirrelCZECH which is just bad
12:20 Hukka everything wsgi
12:20 uirrelCZECH dosen't like twisted because he would have to learn it AND it's too big lib
12:20 SquirrelCZECH I need small library
12:20 SquirrelCZECH (PyUV)
12:22 SquirrelCZECH and, just because I do not like supporting one big thing, when everybody can't see anything else

13:19 GuShH hrmmm 450 bucks for a vertical vise for the lathe... jeez.
13:32 R0b0t1 I've seen precision vises cost quite a bit
13:32 b0t1 didn't originally know you could have a precise
13:46 GuShH theBear: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TMS92903CT-TMS92920CT-Samsung-Inverter-Transformer-For-943NW-943NW-943NWX-/221170416060?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item337ec8b9bc costs 10 times more here... lawl, I'll get someone to order it.
13:46 GuShH R0b0t1: it's not a precision vise, it's just "for professional use" so they charge whatever they want.
13:47 GuShH and precision vises are required for milling and such.
13:47 theBear wow, i'm surprised they bother to sell them on their own
13:47 GuShH I'm not
13:47 GuShH they get them from china without paying any taxes
13:47 GuShH and they resell for 10 times the price
13:47 GuShH lots of profit, even if it's just a small part
13:47 theBear but they could do the same with whole inverters
13:48 GuShH they do
13:48 GuShH it's just the whole board is way too expensive
13:48 GuShH not worth it on an old LCD IMO.
13:48 theBear and the number of people that can identify/change a dead transformer in something like that is VERY small compared to those who can do the same with the whole board
13:48 ShH sh
13:48 GuShH these are "specialized" stores
13:48 R0b0t1 GuShH, ah, I see
13:48 R0b0t1 hm
13:49 theBear i'm all for repairs, without them i would have starved and died years ago, but i don't think like people that make money selling things
13:49 GuShH specially reselling without paying taxes
13:49 GuShH it's almost as bad as selling samples.
13:49 GuShH in my book at least.
13:50 theBear fwoo i dunno, i'm VERY touchy about ANY sample abuse, over the years it's gotten to the point that i generally just order and pay for something rather than waste the time/effort getting a sample thanks to those asses
13:50 GuShH but.. 2.85 total cost for an lcd screen, any screen, is worth it anyway.
13:51 GuShH all caps are fine, I should test the tubes though
13:51 theBear hell yeah, if you found it, get it !
13:51 GuShH nah not found, given... as always
13:51 GuShH you can't find things here!
13:51 GuShH I've only ever paid for one LCD screen, the rest were given to me DOA
13:52 R0b0t1 lol GuShH, people actually sell samples?
13:52 theBear i just meant the transformer re: found-ing it
13:52 R0b0t1 and actually I'm at work now. We're gonna be sending product out the door that was built with samples
13:54 GuShH R0b0t1: fuck you then.
13:54 GuShH and everyone working with you
13:54 GuShH cunts
13:55 R0b0t1 lolwat
13:55 R0b0t1 they know about it
13:56 R0b0t1 I mean what's the difference between sampling something to use in an internal project, or a prototype
13:56 R0b0t1 and getting value from it
13:56 R0b0t1 as opposed to selling it in a product
13:57 GuShH I don't know, what's the difference between killing someone with your bare hands, or paying someone to do it for you?
13:57 GuShH They're both crimes.
13:57 GuShH With your reasoning everything counts, nothing matters.
13:58 GuShH Might as well steal the electricity required to solder the samples so you can get even more profit when you sell the product
13:58 R0b0t1 but GuShH
13:59 R0b0t1 my point is, any reason you could want a sample, you will make money off of it
14:00 R0b0t1 also the distrib/company know about it - they're fine with it, because they realize providing easy access to their product makes people want to use it
14:00 R0b0t1 now there's something wrong with you if you get free samples and turn around and sell them without using them, but eh
14:01 GuShH there's something wrong with YOU and your people.
14:01 R0b0t1 ...
14:01 GuShH sampling is for internal use only
14:01 R0b0t1 you still make money when they're used internally
14:01 GuShH that's irrelevant because you'll be purchasing the parts
14:01 R0b0t1 wat?
14:01 GuShH sampling just makes it possible to materialize physically speaking a part
14:02 GuShH for prototyping and development purposes
14:02 R0b0t1 Sure
14:02 R0b0t1 and we're selling the prototype (to some dumbass...)
14:02 GuShH you are fucking retarded, don't talk to me.
14:02 R0b0t1 But using it in a prototype, or the first unit of production, is no different: in one you receive intangible benefit, in the other, direct monetary benefit, probably of equal worth
14:02 R0b0t1 lol
14:02 R0b0t1 kbro
14:03 GuShH go sell 555 kits with ladyada if that's all you're good for.
14:04 R0b0t1 nah, biological sampling systems
14:04 R0b0t1 get on my level
14:04 GuShH your level uses flipflops and answers phones for a living.
14:06 R0b0t1 No, my level shouts at hardware because they're fucking dumbasses and give me a power rail with 2V of noise on it
14:06 R0b0t1 I scoped it to prove a point (IO misbehaving) and nearly shat myself
14:06 GuShH your level is below GND.
14:06 R0b0t1 I'mma use that
14:06 GuShH or will soon be, but that's a threat.
14:06 GuShH so your level belongs below GND.
14:06 GuShH that's it.
14:07 R0b0t1 "Your potential is less than GND."
14:08 R0b0t1 I'll be back when I need more insults to pass off as my own
14:08 GuShH that's different
14:08 GuShH R0b0t1: yeah, steal them like you steal samples.
14:09 R0b0t1 I'll steal them. So hard.
16:06 KongfuPanda GuShH, what was the joke that you made about "si"?
16:09 GuShH I didn't...
16:50 KongfuPanda GuShH, you did :) what was it?
19:58 Curious chill
23:33 RifRaf Tom_itx, you about?
23:34 RifRaf trying to use a 2 flute cutter on 4mm aluminium, just a 3mm bit, but is clogging, i need to go faster?
