00:31 Gargantuasauce yup
00:35 summersault hi, i would like to know which IMU is recommended. Should i go with a 9 or 10dof?
00:38 Rif summersault get what you need
00:39 Rif or think you want to expand to, is handy having the sensor there already
00:39 MrCurious the perk of the 10dof boards is they can be had from ebay for like $14
00:40 MrCurious a small amount of money to gamble
00:52 Gargantuasauce if you're using ultrasonic distance sensors the pressure/temperature sensor is definitely worth it
00:53 Gargantuasauce and yeah let the money do the talking
00:53 Gargantuasauce Rif this is my periodic reminder to make me a pretty video of that not-screw
00:53 Gargantuasauce or an unpretty video
00:57 Rif yep, tonight will try, but have to use a new controller, so might take me a while
00:57 Rif its a rumba board i think
00:59 Rif Gargantuasauce did you see the new assembly?
00:59 Gargantuasauce no
00:59 Rif http://imagebin.org/266034 http://imagebin.org/266033
01:00 Gargantuasauce 8mm rod?
01:01 rue_house aha
01:01 rue_house Tom_itx,
01:01 rue_house "Valve lash is NOT adjustable on the 2.5L engine."
01:01 Gargantuasauce that looks pretty snazzy
01:01 GuShH which engine again
01:02 rue_house my engine
01:02 GuShH I.... don't know what engine that is.
01:02 Rif 10mm rod
01:02 GuShH where did you read that?
01:02 Rif if oversized unit so scale will look odd to normal one
01:03 Rif is*
01:03 GuShH is it shaft mounted rocker then
01:04 GuShH by the pushrod, how is it coupled to the rocker
01:04 GuShH I find it hard to believe it's not adjustable... who wrote that?
01:05 GuShH And, did you gage the gaps and found them to be off spec?
01:05 GuShH might as well inspect valves and relap by now
01:07 GuShH bah better try to sleep
01:09 MrCurious Gargantuasauce: with ultrasonic range finding, why is the pressure temp useful. know a equation i dont?
01:11 Gargantuasauce oh i forgot pressure doesnt matter
01:11 Gargantuasauce for an ideal gas at least
01:11 Gargantuasauce whatever, you can know if it's going to rain :)
01:17 MrCurious hah! true
01:18 MrCurious didnt realize the speed of sound was affected by temp
01:20 MrCurious this san diego mayor problem is easily explainable... when he was initially toured around the city capital, he thought they said stay with the GROPE, rather than GROUP
01:20 MrCurious ba-dum-ding!
01:21 rue_house ooo my truk has hydraulic lifters, that is a major problem if the system is full of gunk
01:23 Curious wanders back to reading OO-Design Patt
01:24 Gargantuasauce gross
01:24 MrCurious its not a fast read, it reads about as nice as a phone book
02:25 rue_bed yup, I'm right, a synchronous buck converter can be used in reverse as a boost converter, meaning it can be used for regenerative braking
02:25 rue_bed this is what the new mowerbot needs for my yards hills
03:39 Tom_itx that or a dozer bot to flaten the yard
06:48 RifRaf anyone know an easy way to make a .mov file smaller?
06:51 Gargantuasauce transcode with vlc
06:51 Gargantuasauce can switch it over to a sane codec in the same go
06:52 Gargantuasauce i'd say h.264 in an mp4 container
06:53 RifRaf ok will try vlc
06:53 RifRaf my other programs are changing the video but losing the audio
06:54 RifRaf Gargantuasauce, i have the video, just cannot get it online :()
06:54 RifRaf will try a picture
06:56 RifRaf http://imagebin.org/266075
06:58 Gargantuasauce cool
06:58 Gargantuasauce how does the backlash compare to a belt?
06:58 RifRaf http://imagebin.org/266077
06:58 RifRaf there is no backlash :)
06:59 Gargantuasauce there's no such thing as no backlash!
06:59 RifRaf the coupler needs a bearing in front, is just loose and works
06:59 RifRaf :)
07:00 Gargantuasauce and it really doesnt drift or anything under load?
07:02 RifRaf i have some drift at this time, but i need another bearing at the motor end
07:03 RifRaf i am really happy with it though
07:03 RifRaf will make some new mounts at work tomorrow and should be sweet for weekend testing
07:03 Gargantuasauce i am still a bit baffled
07:03 RifRaf not a full printer, but am working on the X axis now
07:03 RifRaf wait till you see the movie :)
07:04 RifRaf and you will see some load testing
07:24 Tom_itx got a dial indicator to show us?
07:36 RifRaf me?
07:36 Tom_itx uh huh
07:36 RifRaf am using fishing scales
07:36 RifRaf have no dial indicator
07:36 Tom_itx how do fishing scales show backlash
07:37 RifRaf when i canot feel it, i know i could not see it, so it cannot be there :)
07:38 RifRaf but for sure the momentum could keep the balls in the bearing rolling for some time i am sure
07:39 RifRaf i just think its as good if not better than the stretch that a belt can get when jerking
07:39 RifRaf and this is test #1
07:39 RifRaf so can only get better
07:39 RifRaf video seems to be uploading this time
07:41 Tom_itx when jerking i can see slippage in the bearing setup
07:41 RifRaf the tensioning screws gives great control over the pressure, even a quarter turn can make difference
07:41 RifRaf Tom_itx, nake one
07:41 Tom_itx nope
07:41 RifRaf make*, or i can send you a printed part to try with
07:42 RifRaf the rest i just made on router
07:42 Tom_itx gtg..
07:42 RifRaf apart from coupler, which is just for quick testing
07:42 RifRaf see ya
07:47 RifRaf Gargantuasauce, this work? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzSgV8Ecu7A
07:47 RifRaf or Tom_itx
07:50 Gargantuasauce ya
07:50 Gargantuasauce welp looking forward to seeing prints done with this
07:51 Gargantuasauce i can see two major issues arising with it but i dunno how relevant they actually are
07:51 Gargantuasauce bearing/shaft wear, and deformation on the pla part holding em together
07:52 RifRaf is abs
07:52 RifRaf and will just print tougher if needed
07:52 RifRaf the wear is yet to be seen
12:06 GuShH Gargantuasauce: I too wonder about wear on the shaft, but bill says it's negligible, in theory if your shaft is harder than the contacting surface of the bearings, then the bearings need replacement not the shaft.
12:07 theBear that's what she said
12:10 GuShH theBear: heh
12:10 GuShH I thought typically Mr R pitties the fool's shaft
12:11 GuShH ow... why is youtube using my real name now... I told them not to
12:12 GuShH bastards
12:34 GuShH theBear: bring in the beer, we're going on a weasel hunt!
12:34 GuShH I mean, possum.
12:34 GuShH Same shit really.
12:37 theBear sneaky bastards !
12:38 theBear what's your fake name ? is it err, Phillip Wang ?
12:38 Tom_itx dang wang
12:45 GuShH theBear: I don't have a fake name, just a nickname...
12:46 GuShH anyway I gave it a chance, sprayed the bitter deterrent stuff and some bug spray in there so it could get out alive, seems it doesn't care so when it comes out at night.. it's game over.
12:47 ShH wishes he had a supressed 22 rifle at this time, but co2 will have to do for
12:47 GuShH seems supressors are a big no-no here
12:48 GuShH always silly these laws.
12:48 Tom_itx why?
12:48 GuShH I don't know.
12:48 GuShH most calibers are for conditional use only
12:48 GuShH they even frown at muzzle hiders
12:48 theBear i think i gotta man-up and start introducing myself as the bear again, it's been so long that everyone called me it, i don't like my real name so much anymore, feels like i'm being shouted at by a teacher or parent when i hear it
12:49 theBear plus seems anyone with a average or lower iq can't pronounce it, it's not exactly tricky
12:49 GuShH we make Bersas here, they're pretty good firearms for the price. but imports have gone way up in price, very expensive hobby all of a sudden.
12:49 theBear but also not common
12:49 GuShH theBear: Mr R works for me
12:49 theBear i could live with that
12:50 theBear something about a cheeky english accent i like the best, they just put the right tone and accents to 'the BEAR'
12:50 GuShH shouted at by a teacher... I once got forced to seat on a chair by the music teacher.
12:50 GuShH my ass still hurts.
12:50 GuShH that bitch couldn't play shit.
12:51 GuShH theBear: maybe it's time to go german ... der bar!
12:51 MrCurious couldnt cary a tune if it had handles?
12:52 theBear heh, you remind me of a guy with no arms, can't hold a note, can't carry a tune
12:52 GuShH MrCurious: still to this day I'd set her car on fire if I saw her again.
12:52 theBear das bear
12:52 GuShH dar bar heheh
12:52 GuShH das bar!
12:52 theBear huh ? forced to sit ? you mean physically ? your poor ass !
12:52 MrCurious THATS how you make an impression on a young mind
12:52 theBear break it's ass ?
12:52 GuShH yeah. I was 6-7
12:53 ShH just wanted to go to the bath
12:53 GuShH Indeed. They should be put in jail for what they do to the poor kids
12:53 GuShH They're frustrated in life so they take it upon them
12:53 MrCurious should have pissed your pants... shame the teacher
12:53 GuShH Nah
12:53 GuShH I should've pissed all over her instead
12:54 GuShH But I wasn't like that!
12:54 theBear i know i'm a little unbalanced and always had anger issues, but it was a mistake making that kinda impression on me as a child... i'm cursed with 'perfect' memory of my past, and well, even practicing in recent years, i have trouble forgiving or forgetting... there's a rough list in my head, but when i see anyone that did wrong, i'll know, and they ain't gonna be smiling
12:54 GuShH Now I'd force her to drink horse piss.
12:54 theBear got a lot in my late teens, but there's still a few out there
12:54 MrCurious well if its any consolation, she is probably wearing depends now, wishing she had permission to go to the bathroom.
12:54 theBear hehe
12:54 GuShH theBear: Heh want to share lists?
12:54 theBear not to mention the staff putting out cigarettes on her when the family aint around
12:55 GuShH lol, I don't know if she's that old.
12:55 theBear nah, that's a bad scene, i think it's ok to have one, but you don't need to go into details with your associates or, i like to think <sniff> friends ? <grin>
12:55 GuShH The other teacher was a cool dude and he was actually talented.
12:56 theBear maybe she ain't that old, just someone beat you to it... i was very grumpy with a dentist for well, i'm still grumpy, lazy poor at their job arrogant assholes ! i was just too young to abuse them myself, and was given some bad information by my guarding adult, but nevertheless, the whole place was arsoned to the ground one night before i got a chance :)
12:57 theBear not that arson is my thing, i'm into making people feel terrible, possibly forever, and not against a slap or a bump, if it feels right at the time
12:57 GuShH I've had my share of confrontations with professors, teachers... everything. Including a couple of the phys-ed dudes.
12:58 GuShH This reminds me of the time I got kicked out of a rugby tournament for "punching" someone from the other team during a scrum.
12:58 ShH grins --- I swear everyone else was doin
12:58 theBear mmm, over the years i learned it's much less painful to just say what you think right away, if necesarry physically, otherwise i just punish myself forever, or at least until that meeting long long down the line years after THEY'VE forgotten
12:59 theBear meh, i never liked dodgy scrums, i was always disgusted by both teams when i was down there and could see what went on
12:59 theBear and those league (girls rugby, not sure what they call it elsewhere) mock-scrums where they don't even lock in, DISGUSTING ! they should be ashamed
13:00 MrCurious anyone have a LEAP MOTION?
13:00 theBear that and the taking a rest and a few steps back everytime anyone gets tackled !
13:00 theBear i used to be able to leap, now i can barely walk
13:00 GuShH bah I've been called rainman because of my memory, although I guess rain man had other attributes and faults. Fuck they called me a retard?.
13:00 ShH adds everyone to the
13:01 theBear hehe, memory didn't help you on that one eh ? <grin>
13:01 GuShH If you ate some mexican food you could leap off the toilet though
13:01 GuShH got a 2mm center drill from china, it should be called a center toy.
13:01 GuShH this thing is tiny.
13:01 MrCurious thats a LEAP MOVEMENT
13:02 theBear i'm not autistic prodigy amazing, but i can sketch very accurately something like a house layout or facade i saw 20 years ago, or a certain day EVERYTHING that a babysitter/parents/everyone did around me, i remember EVERYTHING i've done and where i've been, and only lost a combined total of around 5-7hours while drunk, which is the REAL curse
13:03 GuShH I must be slightly autistic, or it's just my way of letting someone know they should get the fck out before I react, by ignoring them.
13:03 MrCurious a good memory is a curse
13:03 MrCurious can never un-see, un smell, un hear..
13:03 MrCurious and you cant re-watch most movies
13:03 GuShH it's worse when you can remember smells, times of day and sometimes what others were wearing.
13:03 theBear plus the anger and forgiveness 'issues' <grin> apparently i really scared the old grumpy vice principle in my early teens just by my reactions and responses and well, the fact that i didn't just stand there while he did that rhetorical-lambast-abuse thing teachers seem to like
13:04 theBear smelling is tricky, it's painful when you catch JUST a whiff of something and have to spend the next week remembering what it reminded you of or who used to wear that perfume
13:04 GuShH bah if I didn't set that school on fire was because I'm not clinically insane, yet.
13:05 GuShH Oh did I say that "out loud"
13:05 GuShH At least it didn't involve firearms. That's a shit move.
13:05 GuShH If you wanted to hurt them, do it at night WITH FIRE.
13:05 ShH grins and nods to the
13:05 GuShH I'm not sure how this tiny center drill can be accurate
13:05 GuShH having such a short shaft
13:07 theBear heh, in recent years i've actaully considered working or volunteering at one of my old schools, in some capacity or other... i miss it in many ways... didn't 'enjoy' it while i was there so much, but damn, we had it pretty good, no working to survive, no heavy labor, supplied social contacts with regular exposure, all the resources you could ever need at that age
13:07 theBear huh ? how is a short shaft less accurate ?
13:07 GuShH ...So I was at the home improvement store, they had a small table with all sorts of screw, nuts, washer boxes.. and a sign that said "50c"... I grabbed almost all of them
13:08 GuShH but I thought, this can't be right... sure enough, 90% of them registered $9.99
13:08 GuShH had the clerk put them all aside, minus the 50c ones... ended up with 4 tiny boxes of nuts I didn't even need
13:08 ShH shakes
13:08 theBear meh, you'll need them one day, and tiny boxes are tiny
13:08 GuShH but, that's like 30c usd for 400 nuts, not bad.
13:08 poli Hello my good people of #robotics!
13:09 theBear hello my good person of poli !
13:09 GuShH I just wish I could've got everything for like 10 bucks, I would never have to step into a hardware store ever again!
13:09 poli lol
13:09 GuShH poli: what's the biggest home improvement store in BR ?
13:10 GuShH we have two here... one worse than the other, with fake promotions and very poor customer service, prices higher than you can find on ML.
13:10 GuShH small hardware stores (mom & pop) are worse, sometimes... so I don't know what to do anymore.
13:12 poli GuShH: The chains are mainly for costruction material, and decoration. Home improvement are rare among the big ones.
13:12 poli Telhanorte Pro, but it is really meant for professionals, not amateurs.
13:13 poli You do have the streets that will sell home improvement material, but they are a group of stores that sells similar use products.
13:13 poli You have maybe a hundred of them groups, but no chains and no big ones.
13:13 poli *grouped
13:13 GuShH hrmm
13:13 GuShH odd
13:14 GuShH the big places here (two) have a professional / construction side
13:14 GuShH you just drive with a truck and shove the stuff in.
13:14 poli Rua Florencio de Abreu in Sao Paulo is a huge home improvement community of stores. That's the biggest place I know for that.
13:14 GuShH also a renting "department", but it's crap. I never rented anything
13:14 GuShH they require you to leave your ID and a big sum of cash.
13:15 Gargantuasauce_ i kernel paniced ;_;
13:15 poli The equivalent of that here is Telhanorte Pro
13:15 poli They are the home improvement branch of giant Telhanorte, which is really huge.
13:15 poli But the only true home improvement store they have is this one, and only one.
13:15 GuShH yeah Telhanorte is like them
13:16 poli And yet you will find professionals tools, but not everything you would find in a home improvement place.
13:16 GuShH it's cool if you want to see the tools and fool around with them
13:16 GuShH but I rarely buy them at those places.
13:16 GuShH unless I can't find it anywhere else.
13:16 GuShH for instance my air compressor, bought it on ML, had it delivered... cost me half of what they were asking at the store.
13:17 GuShH and it's the SAME unit.
13:17 poli Happens here too.
13:17 poli Out taxation matrix is mainly on consumption and labor.
13:17 poli So if you find a place that will not pay de taxxes on products, they will charge you half of the regular price. Easily.
13:18 GuShH most of what's sold on ML is illegally obtained
13:18 poli But you have to pay cash (or cheque) and absolutely no invoice or credit cards.
13:18 GuShH some just order stuff from dx.com and resell.
13:18 GuShH poli: yeah, well... for small stuff that's ok
13:19 GuShH otoh I've sold expensive stuff, and I couldn't provide them with proper invoices or anything because I'm not registered at the moment.
13:19 poli Import is insane here.
13:19 poli So it is very difficult and risky try to have lots delivered if you are not in the import business.
13:19 GuShH it makes it harder to sell if you request cash, and for bank transfers after a certain amount you end up being under the radar
13:19 poli And even if you are, state officials see you as a criminal.
13:19 poli And threat you like one.
13:19 GuShH heh they're the real criminals.
13:20 GuShH I've dealt with legal imports.
13:20 poli oh just got my 50 karma at stackoverflow
13:20 GuShH from getting the stuff through the harbor, out of it and into storage, to moving it to your own storage, insurances, release forms... it's all a big crime.
13:20 poli I hate this karma stuff so badly.
13:21 GuShH they're scammers.
13:21 GuShH and even in the "legal circle" most things are not done legally
13:21 GuShH so they keep most of the money they take from you.
13:22 robotustra poli: so, you are good programmer then?
13:22 GuShH I bet he's better than you
13:22 robotustra for sure
13:23 GuShH aww I want a set of magnetic squares...
13:23 robotustra ceramic??
13:23 GuShH no
13:23 robotustra NdFeB3?
13:23 GuShH Here comes his ill side.
13:24 Curious grabs some popcorn and sits down by the
13:24 robotustra what?
13:24 GuShH A regular welding magnet square you tool.
13:24 robotustra ah
13:24 poli robotustra: no
13:24 poli :)
13:24 GuShH A couple of them, not just one.
13:24 GuShH They're very handy
13:24 robotustra I mean rare earth magnet?
13:24 Gargantuasauce_ drop some ill rhymes for us, yo
13:24 rgantuasauce_ beatboxes as only a white dude
13:25 GuShH robotustra: some are switchable, some are not. Possibly.
13:25 GuShH The cheap ones have small magnets, they're not good for big chunks o' steel
13:26 GuShH http://www.magnetsalesaust.com.au/images/Magnetic-Square-lrg_6.jpg
13:27 GuShH that's not exactly square on all planes, what a poor example.
13:27 robotustra oh, nice tool
13:27 GuShH I could've used two of those recently... heh
13:27 robotustra I used to fix parts with usual clamps
13:27 GuShH yep
13:28 GuShH but it's fiddly and takes a long time
13:29 GuShH a proper welding table helps too, clearly I don't have one either.
13:30 GuShH http://www.newmetalworker.com/reviews/besywldmags.html cool stuff
13:31 GuShH those are ceramic for what I can see
13:31 GuShH I don't know if anything stronger, for small pieces, would be a good idea.
13:34 robotustra but this stuff is expencive if you are not professional welder
13:35 MrCurious DADDY WANTS! http://www.plasticpals.com/?p=26812
13:35 MrCurious no, in hind sight, that didnt sound creepy at all...
13:36 robotustra your dady?
13:36 MrCurious http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnDnp5rvz8o
13:37 theBear heh
13:37 theBear WHO IS YOUR DADDY AND WHAT DOES HE DO ? <governator accent>
13:38 Curious travels to theBear's house and places a magnetic waving bear sticker on the passengers side of his car, and a free candy sign on the
13:40 MrCurious WARNING: theBear may stick to certain types of skin
13:43 theBear heh, was fiddling phones on this desk yesterday, couple hd magnets for screw storage and general assistance, damn, between the TINY screws and the damned magnets pulling my hand every which way . . . you can write your own witty punchline !
13:47 GuShH robotustra: the magnetic squares come in all qualities... you can get some for 5 bucks I bet
15:07 MrCurious ok, the leap motion may actually be useful :D
15:12 robotustra did you find at least one useful application for it?
15:12 MrCurious it makes cool lines and circles when i wiggle my fingers
15:12 MrCurious so NO, not yet
15:13 MrCurious it also beats the hell out of teh cpu
15:13 robotustra It was predictable
15:13 robotustra now you CPU works only for this device
15:14 MrCurious guess if its a useful device, it can have its own cpu
15:14 MrCurious sadly, it does not appear to be arm compatible yet
15:15 MrCurious now it could be the visualization that ate the cpu, and not the data aquisition/analysis
15:15 robotustra if it has it's own CPU it would cost a fortune
15:15 MrCurious that and its frame rate was probably running near max, rather than a level of 1 - 2 hz that i would need
15:15 MrCurious it would cost no more than this laptop more
15:15 MrCurious 200 intel dual core laptop
15:16 MrCurious take away screen and other shit, and probably only add $50 to its cost
15:17 MrCurious but so far, a kinect seems more useful for robotics
15:17 MrCurious suppose nothing says i have to run the sensor 100% time. could toggle it on and off whenever something interesting is there
15:18 MrCurious could be great for guiding my hand motion on my robot
15:18 theBear wtf is it ?
15:18 MrCurious leapmotion.com
15:18 theBear heh, finger wiggles, but not arm compatible
15:18 MrCurious but would be nice for tracking my OWI arms on my robot
15:19 MrCurious or at least calibrating the arms on boot
15:19 MrCurious sadly, it would require the addition of a very high power cpu
15:19 theBear oh, like those magic projector multitouch webcam table deals... is it free ?
15:20 MrCurious $79 at best buy
15:20 MrCurious so yes, totally free to most adults
15:20 theBear ooh, years ago i think rue mentioned a nice trick, if you wanna teach things like robot arms a movement, use existing, or perhaps a little additional sensing, to 'feel' you manually working them, then just replicate that
15:20 theBear best buy ? that doesn't sound right
15:20 theBear also i'm not most adults :)
15:21 theBear sounds like more of a framework than a mouste-replacement anyway, so i spose if i was into it i'd just go opencv
15:21 theBear what i seen of it looks very nice
15:23 MrCurious it detects "pointy things like extended fingers, pens, knives
16:11 robotustra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqvW_6PmBIA
16:11 robotustra 0:18
16:37 KongfuPanda hello. If I have a digital input connector GND and +5V required, and I want to use the USB bus to provide those 5V. SOmetimes it works, but sometimes the board just restarts. My pull down resistor is 50 k Ohms, has anyone had similar problems? Maybe I need a lower pull down resistor?
16:41 Tom_itx 50k isn't much
16:45 KongfuPanda Tom_itx, someone suggested that there is a capacitor on that digital input thing that maybe sends some rubbish to the USB
16:45 KongfuPanda maybe if I put say a 10 k Ohm resistor the capacitor will discharge quicker and won't influence the USB so much?
16:45 MrCurious usb only gives 5v @500ma max. how much are you pulling?
16:45 KongfuPanda I dunno
16:45 KongfuPanda it's a digital input
16:45 KongfuPanda I was usuing 50 k Ohm resistor
16:47 KongfuPanda https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26776513/PL2_Connector.jpg
16:49 KongfuPanda the resistor shouldn't pull more than 0.1 mA, but the capacitor across the digital input probably charged
16:50 KongfuPanda I recall some random numbers I measured of 0.4 V
16:50 KongfuPanda which is a lot?
16:50 KongfuPanda the capacitor got charged to that
16:51 KongfuPanda I guess I need to pull down that capacitor quickly
16:51 KongfuPanda I'll try 10k Ohm or less tomorrow
17:58 Ademan-mobile I'm trying to pick out a solenoid valve for air that can operate above 5.5MPa, preferably operates on DC current, and preferably has a multi-mm oriface (most inexpensive ones I've found have been between 0.5mm and 3mm) My budget is ideally less than 200USD but I'm wondering if that's feasible, having done some research now. I'm starting to wonder if my requirements are unrealistic.
17:59 Ademan-mobile good, my alt nick is in here in the inevitable case that my crappy mobile IRC client drops
18:13 GuShH Ademan-mobile: you need to look based on the flow you require through the valve
18:13 GuShH the rest is just adapting with couplings
18:13 GuShH 1/4 NPT is the cheapest most standard size for these
18:14 GuShH but flow depends on the particular valve / type. plunger ones are rather restrictive in general.
18:14 GuShH what is it for?
18:14 GuShH that amount of pressure is not to be fooled with
18:15 Ademan-mobile it's the amount of pressure in a CO2 powerlet
18:15 Ademan-mobile at room temperature etc etc*
18:16 GuShH I just said it's something you should be very careful with.
18:16 GuShH flying fittings will kill you.
18:16 GuShH as will the shrapnel
18:17 Ademan-mobile I definitely agree. I don't intend to be near it when it's pressurized, like, ever...
18:17 GuShH (that's a real posibility if you mix NPT with BSP fittings, etc)
18:19 GuShH Ademan-mobile: just go for something already made http://www.ebay.com/itm/Milwaukee-MA957-CO2-Regulator-Solenoid-Bubble-Counter-/300228662982?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45e705d6c6
18:20 GuShH You can swap the solenoid coil if it doesn't suit your needs
18:20 GuShH Just double check the valve type on the canister before you buy anything heh
18:21 Ademan-mobile Well it looks like the regulator is before the valve, so I assume that means the valve can't handle the full 5.5 MPa
18:22 GuShH in most applications you don't use 5.5MPa and you switch on the low side for safety reasons
18:22 GuShH generally those cheap regulators - solenoid combos are used in aquarium setups
18:23 GuShH where the CO2 is required for the plants
18:24 GuShH not sure if pot growers use it as well
18:24 Ademan-mobile I don't mind talking about my application if you don't brow beat me for it being a stupid application and for me being in over my head (I will be cautious to say the least)
18:24 GuShH Err, is it pot? heh
18:24 Ademan-mobile hah, no
18:24 ShH sh
18:25 Ademan-mobile what a pothead would do with 5.5 MPa is beyond me
18:25 GuShH let's ask theBear
18:29 ShH hands Ademan-mobile one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Momotaro-Super-Solenoid-Valve-N60940-0-10MPa-Dc-24-Volts-PF-12-Size-40-/111094390924?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19ddbde08c
18:29 GuShH I wonder if they're rated for co2
18:31 Ademan-mobile dang, looks good (and huge)
18:31 GuShH that's what she said.
18:32 GuShH Ademan-mobile: So I put my mind into a more destructive mode... I'm thinking you want to launch stuff out of a tube?
18:32 GuShH if so, you actually need more expensive valves.
18:32 Ademan-mobile *ahem*
18:32 Ademan-mobile possibly
18:32 GuShH lol
18:32 GuShH as long as it's not a dildo cannon.
18:33 Ademan-mobile nonononono............. that would be silly.................
18:33 eman-mobile hangs
18:34 GuShH you need to watch less mythbusters :p
18:35 Ademan-mobile I was going to say something about penetrating a concrete wall... lol
18:35 GuShH pow chika pow waw
18:41 Ademan-mobile My understanding is that if I have an expansion chamber after the solenoid valve I could potentially get away with a lower flow rate valve, does that sound right?
18:44 GuShH meanwhile in Germany....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiLg3ViWhp8
18:47 Ademan-mobile bahahhahaha, I like how the dildo had a hilt
18:51 Ademan-mobile but those guys sure know how to please a lady
19:05 R0b0t1 wat.
19:06 Ademan-mobile R0b0t1: the fine art of ballistic dildo lovin'
19:06 R0b0t1 It's not #robotics unless it vibrates.
19:07 Ademan-mobile opencv facial recognition and face targeting
19:22 Ademan-mobile brb headed home
19:39 GuShH eeew http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/gasless-mig.htm
19:42 GuShH I'd rather stay with SMAW than get into that crap.
20:28 jennie HEllo
20:31 jennie please look at code for my PIC microcontroller and check whether it have logical errors or not ? it is small code , the code is to swtich off load at RA1 when temperature is 28 and swithc on load at ra1 when temperature is 24 . http://pastebin.com/rFVZXGJE
20:33 jennie http://oi44.tinypic.com/ivfzhf.jpg is simulation but it is giving errors
20:36 ace4016 code looks fine
20:37 MrCurious is the error in spice, or on teh pic?
20:37 jennie I am unable to figure out the error because the LED is not glowing in simulator it is giving error while simulating
20:38 ace4016 actually
20:38 ace4016 i see some type errors
20:38 ace4016 what type does read_adc() return?
20:38 MrCurious bet its a float :)
20:39 MrCurious good eyes ace
20:39 ace4016 eh...i suppose it might be ok actually...but those types can clash in some nasty ways
20:39 jennie oh ye ace4016 , what it sohuld return ?
20:39 MrCurious shouldnt the compiler have complained when type checking?
20:39 ace4016 i don't know what API you're using
20:39 jennie no , the compiler compiled without erros
20:39 jennie I am using CCS C compiler
20:40 jennie pIC C ccs c
20:40 ace4016 the compiler can and should be able to do the type conversions, though sometimes you want to control the type conversiosn instead of leaving it up to the compiler to figure out
20:41 jennie what should be there in read_adc() ?
20:41 MrCurious whats order of operations for >= vs &&
20:41 MrCurious i would put paens around line 31 and 36
20:41 ace4016 well, read_adc() returnes an int16, so you're fine there
20:41 MrCurious if((reading >= thres2) && state)
20:41 MrCurious and you may really want a & there... logical rather than bitwise
20:42 MrCurious if i recall correct bitwise math is evaluated before >=
20:42 jennie Mr_Curious I changed it
20:42 ace4016 yea; i try to be as explicit as possible :P
20:42 ace4016 i'm banned in 4 states because of it :P
20:42 MrCurious update the paste bin then :D
20:43 MrCurious i think the delay 1 on line 27 isnt really needed
20:44 jennie http://pastebin.com/hwFBNHRK
20:44 ace4016 also, the simulator's parameters might be set incorrectly
20:44 ace4016 from the error codes..
20:45 MrCurious i dont see where you define load
20:45 MrCurious used on 22, 33, 38
20:45 ace4016 hrm, that too
20:46 ace4016 although it might be some predefined thing in pics (terrible naming convention if it is)
20:46 jennie the load is in temperaturecontroller.h it is here http://pastebin.com/6LKKS9sq
20:46 MrCurious yeah, load feels a lot liek a reserved word
20:47 MrCurious is this the right time to introduce you to AVR/arduino, and how much happier you would be if you were working with them
20:47 ace4016 lol
20:47 ace4016 i'm wary of simulators also
20:47 MrCurious can a pic print debug info to a serial port?
20:47 ace4016 jennie, try increasing the time step of the simulation
20:47 MrCurious as in stick in a bunch of Serial.print lines to see what its doing
20:50 jennie ace4016 i tried increasing timestep GMIN but still same error
20:51 robotustra hmm
20:52 jennie if code is good then I try breadboarding the PIC
20:54 robotustra what is this: #use delay(int=8000000)
20:55 jennie time to give pic
20:55 jennie oh i think it is clock freuency
20:55 jennie it is 8mhz
20:57 robotustra may be it should be #use delay(clock=8000000) ?
20:59 jennie yes , have a look from help file of compiler http://pastebin.com/YUrmQhzQ
20:59 robotustra jennie: read this book first, after ask questions: http://www.teiser.gr/icd/staff/kalomiros/Mtptx/e-books/eBook%20-%20PIC%20Programming%20with%20C.pdf
21:22 jennie thanks for book I am readin
21:27 robotustra jennie: welcome
21:38 robotustra jennie: this also can help to make first project http://baltimorehackerspace.com/2010/02/programming-pic-microcontrollers-in-c/
21:44 Ademan wasn't there a decently populated stm32 channel? #stm32 is a ghost town
22:01 GuShH jennie: why are you running a simulation?
22:02 Gargantuasauce_ ademan: ##
22:30 summersault hi i want to create a small robot with wheels, should i use servos or dc motors?
22:30 MrCurious dc motors with quadrature encoders :D
22:30 summersault any links to that?
22:31 robotustra summersault: are you banned on google?
22:37 summersault robotustra yup
22:39 summersault MrCurious, there is a lot of dcmotors, but not sure which torque would be enough, if you have any suggestion.
22:40 MrCurious well
22:40 MrCurious i have a few gear motors that develop a amazing amount of torque
22:41 MrCurious pololu.com would be a good first stop
22:41 MrCurious just make sure they have encoders if you want to have a clue of how far it has turned
22:45 summersault ok thanks
23:09 MrCurious fried another avr
23:36 ShH slaps MrCur
23:36 GuShH how did you manage to fry it this time?
23:36 MrCurious tapped + to - on it
23:36 GuShH MrCurious: ever heard of diodes?
23:37 MrCurious trying to master on change interupts for port D
23:37 MrCurious so i can trigger on any pin on port d changing
23:43 MrCurious this would be easier if my eyes would focus on screen and device without toggling raeding glasses
23:43 MrCurious one of these days i am goin gto make some servo driven glasses
23:43 MrCurious that track distance ahead of me and flip on the right lenses
23:51 MrCurious 3 replacements ordered
23:51 MrCurious and PORTB on change interrupts worked out.
23:51 MrCurious tested my OWI arm with a motor driver and a single hall effect sensor
23:52 MrCurious reasonably accurate for cycling from pos 0 to pos 40 over and over
23:55 R0b0t1 Dude MrCurious
23:55 R0b0t1 that would be badass
23:55 R0b0t1 They have liquid (some kind of oil, I believe) filled glasses that were intended for the 3rd world
23:55 R0b0t1 set your own prescription
23:55 MrCurious prepare to have your mind <----BLOWN---->
23:55 MrCurious my robot has two of those arms
23:56 MrCurious of cource, its creation is leaving a trail of blown components
23:57 MrCurious but it was nice to finally vet the single hall effect sensor design as being viable
23:57 MrCurious really wanted to avoid using 2 per motor
23:57 R0b0t1 Why would you need two?
23:57 MrCurious quadrature encoding
23:57 R0b0t1 Using this is a type of encoder?
23:57 R0b0t1 Ah
23:57 MrCurious but as i use 2 magnets one N, one S
23:57 MrCurious on the input gear
23:58 MrCurious i can use the direction i am driving the motor to make it add or sub counts
23:58 R0b0t1 cool
23:58 MrCurious the gears pretty much prohibit the arm being forced to a position
