00:06 MrCurious mirror motors
00:06 MrCurious window motors
00:06 MrCurious wiper motors
00:07 MrCurious power steering motor?
00:08 rue_house interestig time playing with the brushles motor controller
00:08 rue_house it runs a hard drive motor nicely
00:09 rue_house the min rpm is a bit annoying
00:09 rue_house http://www.ebay.ca/itm/300906826003
00:09 rue_house that what I got
00:10 MrCurious i got one of those
00:10 MrCurious needed a PWM to spin the motor
00:10 MrCurious never worked out the rules
00:10 rue_house hah thats easy
00:10 MrCurious back in my gotta make a quad copter days
00:10 rue_house tho I just used the RC remote I have
00:10 MrCurious i was trying to do it with arduino/avr
00:10 rue_house its a pulse every 20ms, from 1 to 2ms long
00:11 rue_house positive polarity pulse
00:11 rue_house __________________________--______________
00:12 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/elex/hobbyservo/servo101.html
00:12 rue_house I should finish building my digital scope
00:14 MrCurious i just tried generic pwm
00:14 rue_house yea, that wont work
00:14 MrCurious it sort of worked, but not in a explainable way
00:14 Jak_o_Shadows Shouldn't you be able to do it with a pwm, if you set the duty cycle and frequency?
00:15 MrCurious yeah
00:15 MrCurious i wasnt that sophisticated back then
00:15 Jak_o_Shadows Need some maths to calculate stuff, but after that, easy
00:17 rue_house your duty ends up so low you have les than 8 bits for position
00:20 GuShH actually at that low frequency you have a lot of granularity over duty cycle
00:20 GuShH even if the usable range is compressed, you often don't need much more and if you do, you go for a dedicated driver instead of doing it in code
00:21 rue_house its funny to find sellers in china that have no idea what it is they are selling
00:21 rue_house http://www.uxcell.com/black-soft-plastic-coated-handle-internal-bent-circlip-plier-p-303085.html
00:21 rue_house I wonder if those can get those tiny clips
00:21 MrCurious got insight today into how to build the last axis on my cnc
00:22 rue_house which axis is that?
00:22 MrCurious i got some from harbor freight :D
00:22 MrCurious http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&list=PLvSq7UYf0vfY3K8_9nbRF09MXPfVhfHY3&v=MDTViM1MXYw&feature=endscreen
00:22 rue_house have a $5 off cupon from a $1 item I bought
00:23 rue_house I'm not gonna click your guys links
00:24 rue_house uh ho, the fan is squeeking
00:24 Curious promotes rue_house to level 7 internet guar
00:24 rue_house gonna have to regrease it
00:24 MrCurious guess you dont like Brooke Candy
00:25 rue_house http://www.uxcell.com/npt-npt-thread-air-cylinder-rod-cleivs-joint-p-387117.html
00:25 rue_house like, WHAT?
00:27 rue_house http://www.uxcell.com/red-handle-npt-female-threaded-connector-air-flow-ball-valve-p-347134.html
00:28 rue_house they said $5 off any purchase
00:28 rue_house tho most of their stuff looks marked up $5
00:36 theBear rue is a level over-9000 robotic ninja !
00:36 rue_house http://www.uxcell.com/30mm-outside-dia-11mm-thickness-round-thread-die-hand-tool-p-362727.html
00:36 rue_house does that not look like 1/8 npt?
00:39 GuShH rue_house: don't buy from places like that, they can't even list what they sell
00:39 rue_house thats the best, they dont know what to sell it for
00:39 rue_house R1/8 seems to be NPT
00:40 GuShH 7 bucks for that ball valve seems expensive
00:40 rue_house not if I have $5 off
00:40 GuShH I actually need to get some, but will look at the local stores
00:40 MrCurious what you making rue
00:40 rue_house does it matter? look at all the great parts I have!
00:40 GuShH rue_house: what's the maximum rated pressure on those
00:41 rue_house dunno, but the fuel pump on my truck is "low pressure"
00:41 GuShH I'm sure they can handle at least 120PSI
00:41 MrCurious rue_house: thats true, but do you possess a 50 foot trebochet for home defense?
00:41 GuShH since they're the same used on small air compressors
00:41 GuShH so 150-200PSI
00:41 MrCurious with electric windup assist
00:42 MrCurious and a auto loader
00:42 GuShH I built a scale trebuchet
00:42 GuShH well, two models and a bigger one.
00:42 MrCurious slap em on a tracked tank
00:42 GuShH Always wanted to build a massive one
00:42 MrCurious auto wind, auto load
00:42 MrCurious laser targeting
00:42 GuShH It would be ideal for getting rid of trash
00:42 MrCurious name it "bad neighbor"
00:42 Jak_o_Shadows Robot arm is following the virtual arm in blender
00:42 ShH g
00:43 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: time to get some lube
00:43 Jak_o_Shadows The elbow joint is symetric around both sides of the arm, so I gotta change that, so I can actually move it easily
00:43 GuShH darn, can't wait to test that dial indicator magnetic base
00:43 GuShH ...saw the cheapie ones at the store, they looked worse than the one I ordered
00:43 GuShH but it's all down to how much it flexes, how well each arm grips...
00:44 rue_house aha, R and G are wootworth pipe threads
00:45 GuShH withworth
00:45 rue_house whatworth?
00:45 GuShH woodworth is a cute redhead.
00:45 GuShH basically yankee style but at 55° heh
00:45 GuShH the annoying part is that most fittings won't say what they are
00:45 rue_house I learned something, thats invalueable
00:47 GuShH but it turns out you can use a withworth thread gage on american threads to obtain the TPI just fine, you do see the gaps though due to the different angle
00:47 rue_house so it leaks like a siv?
00:47 GuShH that too.
00:47 GuShH turns out most people will assume that's normal and use lots of teflon tape around the male fitting
00:47 rue_house I wnat t use this $5 cupon, but I cant find anything here worth gettng
00:48 GuShH because well, most random fittings in a box won't say what they are...
00:48 rue_house yea, I go by "if it wont go in 4 threads by hand its wrong"
00:49 GuShH here I have a 90° 1/4 NPT, has no markings whatsover. I know it's NPT because with the BSP gage I can see light through every thread.
00:50 GuShH that, and it was leaking. hence why it was replaced, heh
00:53 GuShH hmm how much is one of these? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/81/MagneticBaseSnake.jpg
00:53 GuShH and, isn't it two products?
00:53 GuShH looks like it's not made anymore
00:58 rue_house never seen a holder one like that
00:58 GuShH I just realized the one I ordered is a "mini" version
00:59 GuShH sigh...
00:59 GuShH and it doesn't have a solid shaft, it's on a ball & socket
00:59 rue_house that pic is just pipe segments and drilled out balls alternating
00:59 rue_house with a pull cord in the middle
00:59 GuShH http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flexible-Universal-Magnetic-Base-Holder-Stand-For-Dial-Test-Indicator-1741/370745928529?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D261%26meid%3D9152613797631743866%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D310623673879%26
01:00 rue_house yea, thats the new ones, rigit segments
01:00 GuShH I don't like the way that "snake" holder grabs the shaft of the dial indicator
01:00 GuShH with the V
01:00 GuShH that's bound to deform the shaft a lot more than a round hole
01:01 rue_house http://www.kmstools.com/darson-instruments-magnetic-base-5213
01:01 GuShH this is the kind I was after.. (not a mitutoyo mind you) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/50/MagneticBase.jpg
01:01 GuShH the ones I saw at the store were rather flimsy looking, not sure if they had more than those... I didn't ask
01:01 rue_house http://www.kmstools.com/magnum-flexible-stem-magnetic-base-472
01:01 rue_house aha
01:02 GuShH heh quite a bit more expensive!
01:02 GuShH I doubt they're useful for machining work
01:02 GuShH it has to flex more than a regular base, surely
01:02 rue_house http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Soft-Main-stem-Flexible-stem-Magnetic-Base-Flexible-stem-Magnetic-stand-Magnetic-tools/666935567.html
01:03 GuShH -_-
01:03 GuShH oh.. 28 usd shipping cost
01:03 rue_house hehe
01:03 rue_house often they have min quantities of 50 or so
01:04 GuShH Maybe I could adapt the one I ordered...
01:04 GuShH to a solid shaft
01:04 GuShH the ball and socket doesn't have a lock
01:05 rue_house the trick is to find out what keywords they are using
01:05 GuShH I wonder if they used plastic for the socket
01:05 GuShH that would suck.
01:06 GuShH wtf http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Work-Lamp-On-Magnetic-Base/350774172103?_trksid=p2047675.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555003%26algo%3DPW.CAT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D142%26meid%3D9152820576583482217%26pid%3D100010%26prg%3D1076%26rk%3D8%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D310623673879%26
01:07 GuShH Now I just need a beer holder with magnetic base and I'll be set
01:07 rue_house dont' need to be a strong magnet as I'm sure by the time your putting it down its empty
01:07 rue_house :)
01:07 GuShH lol
01:09 GuShH http://www.ebay.com/itm/Starrett-Push-Button-Magnetic-Base-657T-EDP-52760/200943079476?_trksid=p2047675.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555003%26algo%3DPW.CAT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D142%26meid%3D9152866616990354225%26pid%3D100010%26prg%3D1076%26rk%3D13%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D190836574871%26
01:09 GuShH push button? I wonder how that works
01:10 rue_house pushes thru I think, one side on other side off
01:10 GuShH http://www.ebay.com/itm/Starrett-657-Magnetic-base-and-indicator-set-Wooden-Box/321164702293?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D261%26meid%3D9152873415530566069%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D200943079476%26
01:11 GuShH what a neat box!
01:11 rue_house all stuff used to be loike that
01:11 GuShH that's the old quality stuff nobody will ever make again
01:13 GuShH http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pcs-1-4-BSP-Female-Full-Ports-Connection-Brass-Thread-Pipe-Ball-Valve-/140809781437?pt=Pneumatic_Hydraulic_Valves_Parts&hash=item20c8eac0bd
01:13 rue_house my tools dont often get the chance to go back in their box after the first day I take them out
01:13 rue_house its like old school machine tools that took a bunch of time to set up for the job you were doing, now, everything is 'just stick it in and work on it'
01:14 GuShH So I was reading about dial indicators... and I came upon a quote that went more or less "Expensive or not, they both make pretty much the same sound when they hit the concrete floor, however the owner doesn't" lol
01:14 rue_house that what I found so funny about my lathe, you have to put a fair bit of time into setting up your job
01:15 GuShH well it's not a full cnc lathe!
01:15 GuShH even then, it takes time to program those
01:15 rue_house yea, you have to be carefull when everyting is backed off to get it positioned
01:15 GuShH and for most of the smaller ones, someone has to put the stock so the chuck can grab it
01:15 rue_house imagine having to set up a dog or bolt your material to a plate for every job
01:16 GuShH also, I keep wondering how do hydraulic chucks work? I know the hydraulic part, I don't know the "spinning" portion, how is it coupled?
01:16 GuShH maybe it's something clever, maybe it's not
01:16 rue_house how about the hydraulic lines for runing the tracks on an excavator
01:16 GuShH does it have a coupling plate where one portion is fixed, the other rotates with the chuck and in between the fluid goes through?
01:17 GuShH if so, does it use some fancy bearings for that or how is it done
01:17 ShH p
01:17 rue_house look for replacement parts
01:17 GuShH I got a quote on a relatively small one, 1k :/
01:17 GuShH Was curious.
01:20 rue_house oh my
01:20 GuShH http://www.ebay.com/itm/KITAGAWA-8-3-Jaw-Hydraulic-Power-Chuck-B-208-Nice-Used-WARRANTY-/190844255620?pt=BI_Tool_Work_Holding&hash=item2c6f343d84
01:20 GuShH still unclear
01:20 rue_house http://www.uxcell.com/bootable-female-sdhc-ide-hdd-adapter-converter-p-40228.html
01:20 rue_house ooooo
01:20 GuShH http://www.ebay.com/itm/HYDRAULIC-CNC-POWER-CHUCK-ACTUATOR-X904-/180810295220?pt=BI_Tool_Work_Holding&hash=item2a192227b4
01:20 GuShH :|
01:21 rue_house bit of extra cantilever!
01:21 GuShH http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOWA-HH11C-140-Rotating-Hydraulic-Chuck-Cylinder-/380216344129?pt=BI_Tool_Work_Holding&hash=item5886a8fe41
01:22 GuShH "Item appears new just has a lot of scuffs and marks from being shipped" bullshit heh
01:24 rue_house oh, those collets are about $4 ea from china
01:24 GuShH cute http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-3-JW-MT2-2MT-SELFCENTER-MORSE-TAPER-MINI-CHUCK-LATHE/350264345022?_trksid=p2047675.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555003%26algo%3DPW.CAT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D142%26meid%3D9153101025671508944%26pid%3D100010%26prg%3D1076%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D141017230686%26
01:24 rue_house 2" good photo
01:27 GuShH hmmm
01:27 GuShH isn't this the same one that comes with the chinese lathes? http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-4-JAW-LATHE-CHUCK-with-independent-jaws-NEW/180877240597?_trksid=p2047675.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555003%26algo%3DPW.CAT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D142%26meid%3D9153143480982470707%26pid%3D100010%26prg%3D1076%26rk%3D11%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D350264345022%26
01:27 GuShH I would've thought it was cheaper
01:31 rue_house http://www.aliexpress.com/item/HUANQIU-K11-80mm-three-jaw-self-centering-lathe-chuck/758104933.html
01:31 rue_house does your chuck have a big H on the front?
01:31 GuShH no
01:31 GuShH I don't think it says anything at all
01:32 GuShH I might get a slightly bigger one if I ever find a good deal
01:32 GuShH with blank mounting plate
01:32 rue_house you have the inverse jaw set tho right?
01:32 GuShH well, I think you can choose a threaded "blank" as well
01:32 GuShH yeah
01:32 GuShH came wrapped in oily paper
01:33 rue_house iirc if I hang the jaws all the way out they hit something (other than the carrige)
01:33 GuShH I should take the chuck apart, it doesn't operate smoothly
01:33 rue_house I been meaning to make a drill adapter to work mine a little
01:34 GuShH what's to stop someone with a mill from making two extension plates to obtain more swing on the lathe?
01:34 GuShH if you did it properly, wouldn't it just work?
01:35 GuShH plus extension on the toolpost, or wherever required
01:35 rue_house ?
01:35 rue_house my machine chatters enough as is
01:35 GuShH mount the headstock and tailstock higher with plates
01:35 GuShH heh
01:35 GuShH you'd have to determine why first
01:35 rue_house I think its somehting between a tiny bit of play in the carrige sliders and twist on the bed
01:36 GuShH lots of people claim it's a very low chatter lathe once it's properly setup
01:36 GuShH and that one of the absolute "must do" includes precision grinding the ways to the saddle
01:36 GuShH which takes many many hours
01:37 GuShH rue_house: you can adjust the gibs and see if that solves it
01:37 rue_house for a while I almost didn't notice the 10 thou head/tail alignment issue
01:37 GuShH everyone complains the gibs and the gib screws are carp
01:37 GuShH crap
01:37 rue_house they probably are
01:37 GuShH until you measured and found a taper? heh
01:38 GuShH big issue with the gibs is either the dimples not matching with the holes (so it flexes) or the screws not being ground properly flat, or the dimples not being properly flat, instead conical
01:39 GuShH and the finish is crap
01:39 GuShH not sure if you can use brass instead
01:39 GuShH for the saddle you could
01:39 GuShH but here at least nobody will sell you a couple tiny pieces of brass stock
01:39 GuShH they sell it by the kilogram
01:43 GuShH NBR is nitrile?
01:44 rue_house http://www.uxcell.com/pci-express-pcie-16x-slot-riser-card-flat-flexible-extension-cable-p-270443.html
01:44 rue_house uh, is that electrical tape?
01:44 rue_house NBR is the stuff for gas and oil
01:44 GuShH like the rubber used in cars and gloves
01:45 e_house sh
01:45 GuShH there's another type that is also commonly blue and for aeronautical purposes but I forgot the name now :(
01:45 GuShH pretty much nothing will attack that stuff, but they're not for dynamic sealing (when it comes to o-rings)
01:46 GuShH http://www.ebay.com/itm/20cm-PCI-E-1X-To-16X-Riser-Card-Slot-Graphics-PCIE-Extension-Adapter-Cable-/271226716794?pt=US_Power_Cables_Connectors&hash=item3f265f427a
01:46 rue_house gngiht
01:46 GuShH some prices are not overly inflated on uxcell heh
01:46 rue_house :)
01:47 ShH hibern
01:47 rue_house http://www.ebay.com/itm/Adjustable-Infrared-proximity-switch-photoelectric-detect-sensor-/280962790378
01:47 rue_house hmm robot needs new wiskers
01:48 GuShH http://www.ebay.com/itm/Inductive-Proximity-Switch-Sensor-2mm-3-Wires-NPN-NO-DC6-36V-12mm-LJ12A3-2-Z-BX/400466944213?_trksid=p2047675.m1982&_trkparms=aid%3D333005%26algo%3DRIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D177%26meid%3D9153495869203845794%26pid%3D100009%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D280962790378%26
01:48 GuShH I'd get that instead
01:48 GuShH oh crap, they're inductive
01:49 GuShH I thought it was photoelectric but with a fancier housing
01:49 rue_house "operate on metalic lawns only"
01:49 GuShH wat
01:49 ShH facep
01:49 rue_house robotic lawnmower
01:49 GuShH yeah
01:49 rue_house ir proximity wiskers
01:50 rue_house they work good
01:50 GuShH If I ever get around to making my own, I'll probably just record coordinates and let it playback
01:50 GuShH our old house had IR proximity on the garage door
01:50 GuShH but they had installed the sensor way too high, so the dog wouldn't trip it (defeating the purpose in essence)... stupid
01:51 GuShH it once almost got squished.
01:52 GuShH rue_house: gps and basic obstacle sensing works as well, but it seems even cheaper to just playback a set of waypoints, assuming you register the bot to a specific location every time
01:53 GuShH each waypoint would have the time interval and the commands required
01:53 GuShH so it would tween to the next one
01:53 GuShH sure sounds less complex than mapping the area, but it would be highly efficient once the "route" is set
01:56 GuShH looked at commercially available lawn bots, they're complete crap and a ripoff.
01:57 GuShH "electrical, low noise!, fully automated!" then I watched a video, it sounded like a cat inside a washing machine, and it got stuck several times.
03:11 Jak_o_Shadows Robot arm now has the base rotate working
03:11 Jak_o_Shadows :D:D:D
03:11 Jak_o_Shadows Nowhere near stable enough, but it's not bad for coreflute
03:19 Jak_o_Shadows It's beautiful. It's following the blender arm around perfectly.
03:23 Jak_o_Shadows (Blender is doing the inverse kinematics)
03:31 RifRaf sounds cool, you are using blender? i have it installed but have not made any sence of it yet
03:31 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, i'm using blender for the inverse kinematics. Basically it controls the robot arm, I just tell blender where to have the gripper, and it works out the joint angles and such
03:33 RifRaf i thought it was just a 3d program, will have to have another look, looking forward to pics or videos
03:34 Jak_o_Android Yeah, soon.
03:38 Jak_o_Android The inverse kinematics is mostly for animation
03:43 Jak_o_Android Then I send the data out over and serial connection
04:10 Jak_o_Shadows RifRaf: Are you happy with your gripper design?
05:00 RifRaf Jak_o_Shadows, fairly happy for light objects, say 30g and less
05:01 RifRaf but thats because i used the small servos, i would like to upgrade a couple of parts to printed rather than machined though, will be in next couple of weeks
05:05 Jak_o_Shadows Hmm, I suppose I should look into what I can actually make
05:06 Jak_o_Shadows I'm probably wanting to pick up cylinders, with a diameter of about that of a tennis ball, and 2x8x11 (wxlxh) oblongs
05:09 RifRaf i made various gripper ends, like ones for cans, can make for any shape
05:10 RifRaf so you could change them with a few screws but keep all the rest of the same gripper
05:10 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah might do that. How do you do the wrist-rotating joint in regards to attaching to the servo?
05:10 RifRaf its tricky
05:10 RifRaf i'd have to look
05:11 RifRaf thats one part i want print
05:11 RifRaf to*
05:11 RifRaf for now its 2 bits of glued acrylic
05:11 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, printing that would be easiest.
05:11 Jak_o_Shadows I've hot-glued a bunch, but I can't put the screw in, so it falls off when the arm moves rapidly
05:12 RifRaf i'll take a pic for you now
05:12 Jak_o_Shadows ty. I'll probably tidy up and take some pics/video tommorow
05:20 RifRaf hard to get a picture, cause its clear :/ still trying
05:21 RifRaf its actually heated and bent perspex on this version it seems
05:22 Jak_o_Shadows haha
05:24 RifRaf none are working yet, will upload something for now anyway and try again after
05:25 Jak_o_Shadows Thanks
05:25 Nekros So I guess this channel is about robotics?
05:26 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah.
05:26 Nekros Good, so true robot engineers are here?
05:26 Jak_o_Shadows I don't know if there's anybody here that has a degree in it, but most of us try.
05:27 Nekros Awesome, the channel seems to sprawl of life!
05:29 RifRaf http://imagebin.org/264904
05:30 RifRaf sorry thats an older version, none of the pics are viewable, need me tripod
05:30 RifRaf its at work
05:31 Jak_o_Shadows Oh yeah, cool.
05:31 Jak_o_Shadows you went with the common gear gripper thing.
05:31 RifRaf yes and the gears mesh nice
05:31 Jak_o_Shadows I really need a wrist yaw joint, trying to pick up simple things, makes it bloody difficult
05:31 Nekros Nice stuff RifRaf, is it laser-cut?
05:32 RifRaf router cut
05:33 RifRaf have m2 nylocks on it now though so nothing comes loose
05:34 RifRaf i also went back to sg90 servo, those 3g ones were not that strong and only a bit smaller
05:34 RifRaf but was great for lego bits and lightweight stuff
05:35 Jak_o_Shadows I don't actually have the SG90 ones, I have http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Titan-9g-Servo-RC-Helicopter-Plane-Boat-Car-TREX-450-BR407-/360548729626?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:3160
05:36 Jak_o_Shadows Was the slightest bit cheaper. Apart from one I overstressed (which now occassionally jitters a bit), all good
05:36 Nekros RifRaf: what are you building your robot for?
05:36 RifRaf http://imagebin.org/264906
05:37 RifRaf the bits
05:37 RifRaf Nekros, its just something i do to waste my life these days
05:37 Nekros RifRaf: oh but it's great :D
05:37 RifRaf hopefully find better ways of doing simple things and help others
05:38 Jak_o_Shadows So you glued that long servo arm onto the top middle piece?
05:38 Nekros I plan on making a robot after my current project.
05:38 RifRaf yep two of those bits are glued together, the big one and the one top center, and at right angles
05:39 Nekros Which is an original arcade game with game, cabinet and everything :)
05:39 RifRaf you can see the interlocking bits
05:39 RifRaf Nekros, sounds cool, i miss them
05:39 Nekros http://sage-of-the-diviners.deviantart.com/art/Gallery-Mayhem-380766624
05:39 RifRaf making a robot of a very long project
05:40 Nekros http://sage-of-the-diviners.deviantart.com/art/Gallery-Mayhem-cabinet-WIP-380771492
05:40 Nekros http://sage-of-the-diviners.deviantart.com/art/Coindoor-380770793
05:40 Nekros RifRaf: huh? :D
05:40 RifRaf unless you just go buy a kit
05:40 RifRaf Nekros, i have been trying to 8 years or more on and off, made several but still never one was was happy with for more than a day
05:40 Nekros I didn't wanna buy I kit, I wanted to learn how to do everything myself and develop my skillset!
05:40 Nekros http://sage-of-the-diviners.deviantart.com/art/Relay-board-for-Gallery-Mayhem-380771789
05:41 Nekros Learned electronics and programming through it.
05:41 RifRaf cool, i been doing electronics for 30 years and still learning :)
05:41 RifRaf more even :(
05:42 Nekros RifRaf: you wasn't satisfied with any cabinet you built?
05:42 Nekros Damn, I'm only 24 :P
05:43 RifRaf Nekros, mechanically i do ok, its the coding were i suck still
05:44 Nekros Been looking into maths for the first time too, to see if I can do learn legged locomotion without wasting my life lol
05:44 Nekros Oh I see.
05:44 RifRaf so i tend to make alot of things thats never actually do much cause i move on
05:44 Jak_o_Shadows RifRaf: Could you quickly implement serial control of the servos in your robot arm?
05:44 RifRaf legged motion will use your life, we need more people trying though
05:44 RifRaf Jak_o_Shadows, like now?
05:44 Nekros RifRaf: oh I'm not like that at all, I follow through :P
05:45 Nekros No matter how hard.
05:45 Jak_o_Shadows Well, whenever, but I can modify my stuff to work with your arm.
05:46 RifRaf i can send you the arm to try out if you want, the weekend would be better for me, had a bad week and stuffed still
05:46 Nekros RifRaf: oh cool, well I'm looking into doing simulations first, Gazebo looks cool.
05:46 RifRaf lost 8kg in 3 days, and thats 10% of me
05:46 RifRaf well 4 days, getting better again now though
05:47 RifRaf Jak_o_Shadows, you could do anything with this arm, is just serial same as yours
05:47 Jak_o_Shadows Nah, send me a picture with the arms at their rest position (preferably at 90 degrees), and I'll slot that into my blender part
05:49 RifRaf can find a pic now
05:49 Jak_o_Shadows Great! I use a silly protocol with ";" as line-ends, and "txyyy" (x=0, 1, 2, 3 servo number), (yyy=angle) for communicating.
05:51 Nekros RifRaf: I'm definately going to put this channel on my list :)
05:52 RifRaf Nekros, its not normally that busy
05:53 RifRaf Jak_o_Shadows, seems i never even took a photo of me new arm, did i ever show you a 90% aluminium one?
05:53 RifRaf only the gripper is perspex
05:53 Jak_o_Shadows Nope, unless you put it on youtube?
05:54 RifRaf will try take a pic again
05:57 Jak_o_Shadows http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VhbpxO4LIU&feature=share&list=UU_-6aE1kSJwBnnqS7hS4TZg
05:57 Jak_o_Shadows That would be it?
05:58 Jak_o_Shadows Looks similar to mine, except your base rotation is much more compact, and you have a wrist yaw joint.
05:58 RifRaf http://imagebin.org/264909
05:59 RifRaf finally got one, i like this design
05:59 RifRaf that would be its rest position, or one of several
05:59 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, much neater than mine.
05:59 RifRaf took a few goes :)
06:00 Jak_o_Shadows What range can the shoulder yaw do? Would that picture be at 0 or 180?
06:00 RifRaf yep same in the youtube
06:00 RifRaf thats about 45°
06:00 RifRaf each joint moves upto about 100°
06:01 RifRaf some are restricted
06:01 Jak_o_Shadows Nah, I mean that it wouldn't be able to rotate any further clockwise.
06:01 RifRaf sorry 190°
06:01 RifRaf so can go just past a right angle in each direction
06:03 Jak_o_Shadows Like if you love jesus
06:03 Jak_o_Shadows argh
06:03 Jak_o_Shadows wrong tab
06:04 RifRaf amen
06:07 Jak_o_Shadows I'll leave the gripper rotation and triggering manual, as I don't yet know how to do that
06:07 RifRaf yep
06:08 RifRaf i need to add sensors, so it can grip things that way
06:08 RifRaf one day will get there
06:09 RifRaf so make the arm move around and find objects to collect etc
06:09 RifRaf and the gripper then cuts in when its 'sees' something
06:11 RifRaf or find object with camera onboard, then move arm to that point and the gripper grabs when its in range
06:32 Jak_o_Shadows RifRaf: You have a recent version of blender?
06:32 RifRaf 2.67a
06:32 Jak_o_Shadows That'll do
06:33 RifRaf i dunno how to use it but can follow direction
06:34 Jak_o_Shadows http://www.pasteall.org/blend/22890
06:34 Jak_o_Shadows Do you have python 2.x, and pyserial installed?
06:34 RifRaf should do
06:34 Jak_o_Shadows That blend has a readme. Don't press space.
06:35 RifRaf wow, its open
06:36 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah. If you want the main thing bigger, press ctrl+up-arrow when over the 3D view. ctrl+down-arrow to return to normal
06:36 Jak_o_Shadows Also, what about wxPython?
06:36 RifRaf i know i tried to install it
06:37 Jak_o_Shadows Oh well, i'll send you em in a moment anyway.
06:37 RifRaf pretty neat, am able to move the arm around
06:37 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah.
06:39 RifRaf all those things you mentioned were needed for the reprap software, or some part of it
06:39 Jak_o_Shadows Oh, cool.
06:40 RifRaf i guess to do the serial comms
06:41 Jak_o_Shadows http://jak-o-shadows.users.sourceforge.net/electronics/random/controller.zip is my code. Extract and dump in same folder as blender file
06:41 Jak_o_Shadows Then you might need to edit conn.py to set the baudrate and port of the serial port. Or you can just run socketTest.py and this time press space and Rshift in blender
06:43 RifRaf OK
06:45 RifRaf I WOULD NEED FIRMWARE AS WELL WOULD I NOT?
06:45 RifRaf woops
06:48 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, i'll pastebin what I have
06:48 RifRaf cannot hook it up till tomorrow
06:49 Jak_o_Shadows http://paste.plurk.com/show/1602966/ Yeah, no worries
06:49 RifRaf will save it
06:49 Jak_o_Shadows To be honest, the angles i've got are probably off for you. I guessed a couple, and that was the hardest bit of mine.
06:49 Jak_o_Shadows As you can see though, the code isn't too complex for the uC
06:50 RifRaf yeah but its the way i'd like the arm to work
06:50 RifRaf yep code was small, i just want to take time to hook up the servos and stuff preoperly, a few are disconnected for watever reason
06:51 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, half of mine are, I gotta work on the base.
06:51 Jak_o_Shadows Also, cable management sucks
06:51 RifRaf and had a few drinks and stuffed for today, finish work at 2pm tomorrow then i have me time again
06:52 RifRaf so will get arm all working again so i know its ok before adding new code
06:55 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah. Once you have, note What angle on either side of straight up is the servos max/min. That way you can set it in blender a bit better
06:56 Jak_o_Shadows I should've added some code in blender for opening/closing the gripper, but meh
06:57 RifRaf ah yes will do that
06:58 RifRaf so try get the blender arm to work like the real one, then start trying to control it?
07:03 Jak_o_Android Yeah, get the angle limits to be tge same
07:03 Jak_o_Android Then fix the offsets in armMover.py
07:07 RifRaf ok cheers, ima crash now, looking forward to trying over weekend
07:10 Jak_o_Android Cool
07:36 robotustra morning puppetry
07:37 Jak_o_Android Hi

21:55 MrCurious its the weekend!
21:57 Jak_o_Shadows PARTYING PARTYING YEAH
21:59 RifRaf weekend in 45minutes here
22:29 MrCurious 3 days i chase a bug...
22:29 MrCurious "error: 500 -"
22:29 MrCurious turns out if the hostname does not resolve to a workable IP you get this error
22:29 MrCurious new rule...
22:30 MrCurious error numbers should in future be irational (6/7) like our need to fix them
22:30 MrCurious or perhaps error: 3i - you sure your not imagining this error?
22:48 Jak_o_Shadows Got some pictures of the robot arm. No video yet.
22:58 Jak_o_Shadows Robot arm: http://jak-o-shadows.users.sourceforge.net/electronics/robotArm/pics.html
23:31 MrCurious nice
23:31 MrCurious a great first step
23:32 MrCurious looks like you are placing a great deal of stress on the shafts?
23:32 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, i'd rather not have any
23:32 Jak_o_Shadows but my fabrication skills wont' cut it atm
23:33 Jak_o_Shadows and at least it's not to much stress on the bottom one.
23:45 MrCurious you have hot-glue?
23:46 MrCurious yeah you do
