00:39 GuShH the capacitor gives you a phase shift to "simulate" a second phase for the run winding, that explains 4 wires. you could have an extra 2 due to either it being a split phase induction motor with a run and start capacitor or it could be something else... measure your wires in ohms mode, see if you can find pairs, or trace the original wiring into a schematic.

01:43 GuShH it's a split winding, so you'll have readings like 6 ohms across the ends of the winding, but from one end to the nearest tab you'll get 4 ohms, 2ohms, etc. (just an example)

01:45 GuShH you could try using a small variac, but ideally you want to change the frequency to adjust the speed on these motors. specially if torque is of concern.
