00:06 MrCurious how so
00:06 MrCurious resistor keep me from running 15V into a input?
00:17 MrCurious something is leaking voltage into the AVR it seems.
00:18 MrCurious cant work out why else it is heating up
00:24 MrCurious i see
00:25 MrCurious seems i have 2 pins shorted together, and one is set to write high, the other low
00:28 zap0 when it first starts, have all of them as inputs, and test their initial condition.
00:28 zap0 if they aren't as expected. HW FAILURE!
00:30 MrCurious i like that idea...
00:30 MrCurious set all imput, and expect 0's
00:31 MrCurious then one at a time toggle one to output and write a 1
00:33 MrCurious thanks zap0 i will try that tomorrow :) too tired now to trust my reason
00:33 rue_house <rue_house> check out one of my projets this weekend!...
00:33 rue_house <rue_house> http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/images/sediment1.jpg
00:33 rue_house <rue_house> http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/images/sediment2.jpg
00:33 rue_house <rue_house> I still have to add the second port, the gasket and mounting point, but its comming out great
00:34 zap0 MrCurious, expect 1's or 0' depending on tie up/downs
00:35 MrCurious hmmm doesnt it tristate on input if not tied to anything
00:35 zap0 probably.
00:35 MrCurious or is it if i write a 1 to it, then read, it will default high
00:35 zap0 tri-state is unknown.
00:35 MrCurious easy enough to tease teh answers out with some simple code
00:36 zap0 yes. write down the idea. re-view it tomorowowow when rested.
00:37 MrCurious write?
00:37 MrCurious gonna email myself
00:37 MrCurious my handwriting is no longer legable
00:37 MrCurious unless i drop to 0.1 CPS
00:40 MrCurious it heats up to 95F even with no connections
00:41 MrCurious could be a broke module
00:44 MrCurious a teensy 2.0 running a blink sketch should NOT heat to just below human body temp should it?
00:53 MrCurious man, so close, but still so far
01:01 zap0 i don't think electronics really cares what a human body temp is
03:49 KongfuPanda hello
03:49 KongfuPanda could someone please help me? I need to connect a stepper motor to a control board
03:49 KongfuPanda but there are too many connectors on the motor :(
03:49 KongfuPanda http://www.pc-control.co.uk/stepper_motor3.htm
03:50 KongfuPanda but the board says only to connect Phase A, /A, B, /B
03:50 KongfuPanda what should I do with connections C, /C, D, /D ? thanks
03:50 Tom_itx http://homepage.cs.uiowa.edu/~jones/step/index.html
03:50 Tom_itx http://homepage.cs.uiowa.edu/~jones/step/types.html
03:51 Tom_itx use an ohm meter to find the pairs
03:51 KongfuPanda in the picture it looks like they are all connected together, C , /C, D, /D and to +12V
04:11 KongfuPanda could someone help me?
04:11 KongfuPanda my controller doesn't have phase C, /C, D, /D connections
04:11 KongfuPanda but I'm this motor is compatible
04:14 KongfuPanda I think I will just connect wires with labelled A, B, C, D to the controller and /A, /B, /C, /D to the 12V power supply
05:01 KongfuPanda I'm still struggling :( I know which wires are which phases
05:01 KongfuPanda but my controller has A, /A and B, B/ connections
05:02 KongfuPanda where as the motor has A, /A, B, /B, C, /C, D, /D connections
05:33 KongfuPanda it's working :D apparently all the connections were fine. It's just the software had two options motor 1 and motor 2. I connected to port TTL1, but for some reason it's motor2 for that port :D
05:34 KongfuPanda thanks everyone
09:22 rue_house there is one thing more distracting than ads on my internet search engine
09:22 rue_house and thats adventure games
09:22 rue_house GGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGGGGGGLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12:38 promet30 hi all
12:43 billmania promet30: Good morning.
12:44 promet30 good evening billmania :D
12:45 promet30 it's 19:30 pm in Italy :D
12:45 billmania Yup. I couldn't guess your location from your IP address. It's still morning in California.
12:46 promet30 :D
12:48 promet30 california is beautiful
12:49 promet30 there is the Silicon valley in California
12:49 promet30 wow :D
12:51 billmania I'm in the area north of Silicon Valley called the East Bay, in the City of Berkeley.
12:51 billmania And yes, it's very scenic.
12:52 promet30 I envy you
12:54 promet30 billmania, are you a robot builder?
12:55 billmania promet30: I like to think I am, at a hobbyist level.
12:56 billmania An early photo of my main project is at http://manialabs.us/robots/NomadV2/IMG_20130224_152933.jpg
12:57 promet30 billmania, laser + mini itx
12:57 promet30 very good
12:58 billmania Yes, essentially a motherboard on wheels.
12:58 promet30 ok, my project is similar
12:59 promet30 http://www.robot-golem.org/OTHER_IMAGES/IMG_8670_low_OLD.jpg
12:59 promet30 by now there is only the mkechanical structure
13:01 promet30 I use a PIC32 + 4 H-Bridge to move the robot
13:01 billmania Will yours be autonomous or remote-controlled?
13:01 promet30 autonomous
13:01 promet30 but for now I just beginning :)
13:02 billmania Looks like you're off to a good start with the chassis.
13:03 promet30 yes :) I've used six months to create the skeleton
13:03 promet30 it's very difficoult make a robot :D
20:00 robotustra hey
20:02 poli hello
20:02 GuShH robotustra: RU!
20:33 robotustra GuShH: More correct is BY!
20:41 GuShH robotustra: to us you are RU.
20:41 ShH wonders when is he going to finish that lathe s
20:41 GuShH got almost half the parts cut, had to work on something else so it's been waiting to get finished
20:43 GuShH Turns out I ordered 20x20x0,9mm for another project and I got 20x20x3,00mm instead... yey.
21:09 poli someone with experience on mecanum wheels?
21:14 MrCurious seems tonight i debug my borked stepper board
21:16 robotustra botked?
21:16 robotustra hi
21:16 robotustra borked
21:18 robotustra I bought canadian dictionary recently
21:18 robotustra will study a lexic
21:21 MrCurious borked = broken
21:30 MrCurious oh snap! i detected a short using a program :D
21:32 poli_ MrCurious: Tell me more about it, please.
21:32 robotustra poli_ is a bot?
21:33 robotustra the bot in our channel say this phrase
21:33 poli_ I sounded like one, didn't I?
21:33 poli_ lol
21:33 robotustra usually
21:33 MrCurious poli_: i had to interconnect the phase replicator to the main transporter matrix by refactoring the theleron radiation through the dilithium matrix.
21:34 robotustra "I do not know anything, please, tell me something"
21:35 poli Is that StartTek online or something?
21:35 poli startrek
21:37 MrCurious nano-nanu
21:37 robotustra MrCurious: Sounds like simpilator of disturbed hertrones has a leak
21:37 MrCurious (thats like a little hello, mork style)
21:38 MrCurious it has to do with theleron particle leakage in the phase transducers
21:38 MrCurious maybe its conoton leakage... i feel like i have been here before
21:39 robotustra :)
22:42 XanFrog Hi!
22:43 XanFrog Does anyone have experience writing A* algorithms for path planning either in video games or for robots?
22:44 poli XanFrog: some
22:45 XanFrog Hi poli
22:45 poli XanFrog: hello
22:46 XanFrog I have written my first the other day in java, and it is a little bloated after playing with it. I am working on rewriting it and trying to get a good idea of the class structurer.
22:46 XanFrog Any advice you can share would be great.
22:47 robotustra XanFrog: java?
22:47 robotustra you must be kidding
22:50 XanFrog Currently I don't have everything separated properly. On the rewrite, I was going to do a separate piece to handle the maps and graphics. A separate loader class to pass nodes in tot the A*.
22:50 XanFrog robotustra: why?
22:52 robotustra I think this algorithm is not optimal for path finding
22:52 robotustra there are other better algorythms
22:53 XanFrog Is this a common structure for A* to set the algorithm apart in a very generic fashion and then create nodes in the open class from a map?
22:54 robotustra java is an abuse of calculating power
22:54 poli XanFrog: There is an online course on udacity by Sebastian Thrun, I think it is called Artificial Intelligence, where he pretty much brings down the algorithm the a minimum, but doesn't do the impkementation.
22:54 poli I am a null in java, so I would be of little help for particular language issues.
22:56 robotustra XanFrog: I wish that 100 neurones in your head emulated the work of 1 neuron - that's what I think about java
22:57 XanFrog Not a big deal about language issues. I am working on structure so 'not to offend anyone by my novice skill set' I would imagine it would be similar for most OOP.
22:57 robotustra OOP is evil
22:58 robotustra I think you also abuse it
22:58 XanFrog robotustra: great. thanks. not much help.
22:59 robotustra do you know the algorythm of flouding water?
22:59 Curious basks in the glow of 4 spinning stepper wh
22:59 XanFrog poli: I have done the first half of the audacity course, it is great!
22:59 XanFrog udacity
23:01 XanFrog I had to lean a bit about python before I could enjoy the course, but it is a very good course.
23:01 MrCurious what did you learn
23:01 RoyOnWheels always 1 semi-troll
23:01 robotustra RoyOnWheels :)
23:02 XanFrog RoyOnWheels: yep great fun.
23:02 MrCurious audacity is a sound recording program?
23:02 RoyOnWheels class structure and language shouldn't matter much
23:02 RoyOnWheels at this point
23:02 poli It is indeed. And the name of the teacher keeps slapping me on the face wherever I read about autonomous vehicles. The guy publishes a lot.
23:03 XanFrog Thanks for your help poli.
23:03 poli XanFrog: I am sorry I couldn't help more.
23:04 robotustra XanFrog: why do you use A* algorythms?
23:04 robotustra they are almost 50 years old
23:05 RoyOnWheels robotustra its a good start
23:06 robotustra RoyOnWheels: if people will repeat 2000 years of trials and errors - they will not have time to move forvard
23:06 robotustra forward
23:06 robotustra they have to do their own errors
23:07 XanFrog robotustra: what do you use for search in your path planning?
23:07 robotustra eyes
23:07 yOnWheels expected
23:08 XanFrog that is about what I expected.
23:08 RoyOnWheels and sarcasm apparently
23:08 robotustra but seriously - it will be much more complicated thing
23:08 robotustra than A*
23:08 robotustra because to move somewhere robot should decide to move itself
23:09 robotustra and I will not point it the target point
23:09 robotustra this task will have no meanong for my robot
23:09 robotustra meaning
23:10 XanFrog I am using A* to start at the beginning and get familiar with a base before modifying it to accommodate more complex search algorithms.
23:10 robotustra XanFrog:
23:10 robotustra I can say 1 thing
23:11 robotustra there are 10 types of people
23:11 poli 11 types
23:11 poli ;)
23:11 poli those who can count in binary, and those who can't
23:12 robotustra those who invent new algorythms and those who use algorythms of others
23:12 robotustra RoyOnWheels does your wheel works good?
23:13 XanFrog I only know of two, those I like and those I don't like. You are neither.
23:13 poli lol
23:13 RoyOnWheels zing
23:14 robotustra XanFrog: it's so childish
23:14 robotustra people die because the loose all people they like
23:14 robotustra they
23:16 XanFrog Friends like that should be tethered.
23:16 robotustra the main problem for my robot is to generate an idea to move somewhere
23:28 GuShH robotustra: so how many projects did you finish today?
23:36 robotustra 1)
23:38 robotustra hanged a curtain in the kitchen
23:38 robotustra 2) feed a cat of my friend
23:38 robotustra tomorrow I'll continue to mill the second eye of robot
23:51 GuShH robotustra: heh, I started 3... finished one, the other is half way through... and I need materials for the third
23:51 GuShH all home improvement related...
23:53 GuShH I think I'm going to get an auto-darkening welding helmet...
23:53 GuShH I'm sick of the old fashioned crap.
23:54 GuShH flick your head to lower the visor and you are already off your starting mark by a few millimeters or worse...
23:55 GuShH false starts = requires clean up = more time wasted
23:55 ShH s
23:55 robotustra I don't know, just find lighter glass
23:55 XanFrog Definitely worth having the auto darkening one. Harbor Freight has some cheap one's
23:55 GuShH I wonder if the cheapest ones are worth it
23:55 robotustra they can be for different electrodes
23:55 GuShH XanFrog: not in the US, but the cheapies are the same... just different brand, comes from the same factory in China
23:56 GuShH robotustra: I use DIN9 right now... but with shade I can't see crap
23:56 GuShH only with direct sunlight, and that's almost rare during winter.
23:56 robotustra do marks with chalk
23:56 robotustra it halped me
23:56 GuShH (welding 2mm electrodes at around 100 amp)
23:56 GuShH welding with*
23:57 GuShH problem is your eyes can't adjust if the mask leaks light from the sides
23:57 GuShH so that trick doesn't work either, and lowering the DIN won't be a good idea, as I won't be able to see the puddle anymore
23:58 GuShH robotustra: with the auto ones you can pretty much dial it in to any DIN you like, not sure how accurate the settings are, but it's irrelevant, you just set it until you're happy with it. The glass itself is DIN15 against UV/IR.
23:58 robotustra anyway, may be you do so precise welding
23:59 GuShH I think the minimum is DIN4 (ie when it's not darkened)
23:59 GuShH robotustra: it's 2mm material, with 2mm electrodes, two parts = 4mm, it's easy to wander off if you can't see.
23:59 robotustra yep
23:59 GuShH or burn through just as well, even with the right amperage and feed
