08:43 GuShH rue_house: the camlock is simple in theory, coming up with a proper solution for each lathe is a bit more complicated, specially one that looks good and works good!

09:28 GuShH I've tried anodizing on a small scale, once you get the temperatures right (for the given concentration of acid) it's not that difficult.

19:03 GuShH removed the compound hand wheel and plate, they used two flat/phillips combination screws for the plate, almost stripped them (why the need to torque them so high?) anyway replaced them with allens, looks much better and the clearance wasn't needed, so they clearly use whatever they can find cheap, these chinks!
19:05 GuShH cleaned and oiled, gave the wheel a quick polish (the alu is darkened in some areas, not sure why but it's not a defect from the stock, most of it came out with a quick polish) anyway I reinstalled it making sure the key was still in there, turned the wheel to the left until I felt some resistance and then I installed the nut and setcrew, seems most of the backlash is gone now but it feels uneven during one portion of the rotati

19:10 GuShH It's not the gibs, as that would present an even force (unless the adjustment is uneven, but it wouldn't be related to the rotation of the wheel, rather the position of the carriage!)
