10:16 i_tarzan Currently BBC iPlayer TV programmes are available to play in the UK only, but all BBC iPlayer Radio programmes are available to you.
15:46 ShH idly plays with RifRaf's plastic bea
15:46 theBear lol, never heard it called THAT before
15:47 RifRaf lol i was just cleaning the new one, 7 hours to print but it worked
15:47 GuShH ha
15:47 theBear holy crap ! you making them ? wow, got a pic ?
15:47 theBear or plan or something
15:47 GuShH theBear: yeah he mentioned it yesterday I think
15:47 GuShH I has memory
15:48 theBear i was a bit drunk AND not watching yesterday :)
15:48 GuShH So I finally got in touch with the company selling all the bits and live centers and all that good stuff
15:48 RifRaf yes will take a pic
15:48 GuShH they had no phone nor internet for a week... NO COMMENT.
15:48 GuShH (you couldn't get a 3G modem going? your gayphone I mean iphone serves as one too...) anyway
15:48 GuShH ok in all fairness I think you have to jailbreak it or something to use it as a 3G modem / router
15:48 GuShH I've used one and it was.
15:49 theBear heh
15:49 GuShH Thing is, now they updated their price list and it no longer matches what I bought, by this I mean the bits are more expensive now and they don't seem to care that I bought the auction for the original, lower price.
15:49 GuShH So that's already a big issue with me.
15:50 GuShH This auction site gets 10% off every sale, so I bought 1x instead of their 17x kit to save THEM the site fees hoping they would either give me a small discount or at least keep the original price.
15:50 ShH sighs... peo
15:51 GuShH And if that's not bad enough, the quote they sent me is only valid for 7 days.... terrific. let's hope they still have internet access by then.
15:51 GuShH theBear: when are you going to build a plastickey printery thingy?
15:52 GuShH I'm sure you've got most of the parts somewhere
15:52 GuShH And I'm sure someone would send you the missing parts if not
15:52 GuShH Not me, nobody would ever send me shit. Not even anthrax.
15:52 theBear most of them, think i need maybe one and a half more scanners if i wanna break about 10cm limits
15:52 GuShH turns out it costs money!
15:52 theBear should be another curb pickup soon
15:52 GuShH at least you find stuff on the street
15:53 GuShH although I bet it's not like Japan
15:53 GuShH where they throw away perfectly good LCD TVs all the time
15:53 theBear i don't know a lot, but i tend to agree
15:53 GuShH among other things.
15:53 theBear where you think i got my tv ?
15:53 GuShH >_<
15:53 GuShH When imports are generally banned and taxes are sky high, people tend not to throw stuff away heh
15:53 theBear 'only' 32" or so
15:54 GuShH I recently serviced one of those boiler thingies and the manufacturing date was 96
15:54 GuShH I don't even own an LCD TV.. I don't watch TV, just some shows I download (can't afford cable, and anyway cable sucks they repeat the same shit at least twice a day for weeks)
15:54 GuShH I mostly watch on one of my screens
15:55 ShH would like a 32 incher o
15:55 GuShH thing with TVs is the low pixel density
15:55 theBear me neither, between the no-remote-distance thing and not watching, it's kinda a hassle on the lounge-table :)
15:55 GuShH I had full cable access in the apartment I rented for a couple months
15:56 GuShH It got boring pretty fast.
15:56 theBear yerp
15:56 GuShH forgot how bad it was.
15:56 RifRaf double bearing gimble things http://imagebin.org/262678
15:56 GuShH looks like the image is corrupted
15:56 GuShH oh there it goes
15:56 RifRaf oh
15:57 GuShH it's fine!
15:57 GuShH look at them balls
15:57 theBear ooh fancy
15:57 GuShH Not sure what's the application for these, but they sure look neat
15:57 RifRaf the balls are not great in the back one but it works, this one should work better
15:57 theBear if you had a GIANT printer you could make those futuristic one wheel bikes like in mib not-the-first-one
15:57 GuShH I wonder, can you remelt or would you have to melt into a filament using an extruder?
15:58 theBear anyway.. time to do
15:58 RifRaf yes but its not the best quality
15:58 RifRaf if you remelt it
15:58 GuShH hrm
15:58 theBear i been considering that a lot recently, with a filiament extruder obviously you can't remelt, but i suspec the only not-stupidly-complex (like extruder feed more complex than entire rest of printer) way to do it is remelting into a filiament yourself
15:59 theBear in theory if you get the temps right it shouldn't be any different from what i learned about most thermoplastics
15:59 GuShH now that I've got a lathe I could at least make some of the parts required for these fancier projects...
15:59 theBear then again, i dunno what you using
15:59 theBear my secret planned stock tho, should be awesome
15:59 GuShH if I could get a vise for the lathe and some flycutters I could get away without having to buy a mill too.
15:59 GuShH vise and indexer, the rotary indexing thingies what are they called?
16:00 ShH clearly needs alc
16:00 theBear err, filofax
16:00 GuShH what's filofax
16:01 GuShH now that I know, next question: WHO THE HELL STILL USES THEM?
16:04 ace4016 women typically
16:04 ace4016 because they have to try getting organized
16:04 GuShH "try" being the keyword
16:50 GuShH RifRaf: any ideas on a cam lock design for the tailstock?
16:55 GuShH http://www.machinistblog.com/lever-operated-tailstock-cam-locks-three-well-known-designs-you-can-build-and-a-kit-you-can-buy/
16:57 Tom_itx i should do that to my lathe too
16:58 GuShH I'm very annoyed at the simple nut provided on mine
16:58 GuShH Specially since the smaller version of the lathe has a camlock
16:58 Tom_itx mine's 200 yrs old
16:58 ShH shakes
16:58 GuShH 200 really?
16:58 Tom_itx well maybe exagerated a bit
16:58 GuShH do you have a horse turning the main belt?
16:59 GuShH and does your coffee machine also work off belts
16:59 Tom_itx mule
16:59 GuShH hah
16:59 GuShH now I want to see it
16:59 Tom_itx draw me one in cad so i can cnc it
16:59 GuShH Oh was it you...
16:59 GuShH Somoene in ##e had bought a very old lathe in bad condition
16:59 GuShH full of rust
16:59 GuShH and restored it
16:59 GuShH maybe it was you
17:00 GuShH painted green or blue I think
17:08 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/sumo_files/lathe3.jpg
17:17 GuShH Tom_itx: I'd reckon it could be 80 years old, but is it an atlas or similar?
17:18 Tom_itx yes
17:18 Tom_itx got it used but i've had it a good long while too
17:19 GuShH hmm can music wire be used to make compression springs?
17:19 Tom_itx never really considered improving it. i just use it
17:19 Tom_itx i don't see why not
17:19 Tom_itx i wind pull type
17:19 GuShH I need some small compression springs for the steady rest fingers... it came with none.
17:20 GuShH expansion springs? for what?
17:20 Tom_itx holding the expansion chamber on a 2 cycle
17:20 ShH bl
17:20 Tom_itx i wind em on my drill press
17:23 Tom_itx usually they push them thru a die
17:24 Tom_itx there's a place here that winds custom springs
17:24 Tom_itx never been inside though
17:24 GuShH heh
17:24 GuShH an entire shop?
17:24 GuShH DRUG FRONT
17:24 Tom_itx i'm not sure they're still around
17:25 GuShH "around" hah
17:25 GuShH well, with this economy...
17:25 GuShH it has it's ups and downs.
17:26 Tom_itx i still use a wrench to tighten the tailstock on my lathe. i should consider making a cam for it
17:29 GuShH it seems to be a neat project...
17:29 GuShH I just don't want to drill onto the tailstock though
17:29 Tom_itx i don't think i would need to
17:35 GuShH if you need half a turn or less to lock it a big nut with a handle will do though
17:35 GuShH the compound on my lathe has two nuts... I'd like a handle type lock in there as well, to set the angle and lock it easily... we'll see
17:35 GuShH well, the toolpost I guess it's called
17:36 Tom_itx so the bolt on the cam doesn't touch all the way around... just on the top
17:36 Tom_itx http://warhammer.mcc.virginia.edu/ty/7x10/vault/Members/RickKruger/Tailstock/CamLoc/Parts.jpg
17:38 GuShH what's the bottom part called?
17:38 GuShH the one that goes underneath the ways
17:39 Tom_itx what keeps the lever from rotating when you push it forward?
17:39 GuShH as per the diagram "clamping plate" .. this one is tiny, cast iron... very tiny.
17:40 GuShH being a cam wouldn't it work both ways?
17:40 GuShH ie have a center point and lock to both sides
17:41 GuShH unless there's a limiter
17:41 Tom_itx foot plate
17:41 Tom_itx that's not what i'm talking about
17:41 Tom_itx what keeps it from rotating around the bolt that goes thru the tailstock?
17:42 Tom_itx i see a setscrew on the bottom bolt, i wonder if that's what it's for
17:43 Tom_itx http://warhammer.mcc.virginia.edu/ty/7x10/vault/Members/RickKruger/Tailstock/CamLoc/Assembly.jpg
17:44 Tom_itx you'd have to set it once it was all adjusted though
17:44 GuShH http://warhammer.mcc.virginia.edu/ty/7x10/vault/Members/RickKruger/Tailstock/CamLoc/SetScrew.jpg
17:45 GuShH right, otherwise it would rotate on it's axis
17:45 Tom_itx there must be a better way to do that
17:45 GuShH there are several other designs
17:45 GuShH Hmm this one is way too similar http://www.gadgetbuilder.com/CamLock.html
17:45 GuShH but that requires drilling
17:46 GuShH it's a 90 and protrudes on the other side
17:46 Tom_itx i'm looking at that too
17:46 GuShH like on the big lathes
17:46 GuShH go for overkill and use a hydraulic operated cam lock
17:46 GuShH :D
17:46 GuShH then convert your chuck to hydraulic too.
17:47 GuShH Be like the big boys with their big expensive CNC lathes
17:48 GuShH http://www.gadgetbuilder.com/CamLock.jpg I like his precision spring
17:48 ShH bursts out laug
17:48 Tom_itx i've run an Okuma Cadet
17:48 GuShH But I bet it works just fine.
17:48 GuShH I don't think I'm allowed anywhere near a massive CNC lathe
17:48 GuShH I'd probably set camp and never leave
17:48 Tom_itx it wasn't a big one
17:49 Tom_itx big enough
17:49 Tom_itx had a bar feed on it
17:49 Tom_itx but i've also run 6 & 8 spindle lathes
17:49 GuShH http://gushh.net/tmp/dscn3687f.jpg that's the tailstock
17:49 GuShH quite lacking without the camlock
17:50 GuShH and the foot plate / clamping plate is way too small to my taste
17:51 GuShH crap is that rust on the adjusting screw or is it rust converter...
17:51 GuShH looks like rust to me, damn you china.
17:53 GuShH at least the tailstock is bigger than on the smaller model, which does have a camlock.
17:54 GuShH http://www.cnccookbook.com/CCLatheTailLock.htm
17:54 Tom_itx http://users.frii.com/katana/618.html
17:55 Tom_itx that's what i got
17:55 GuShH I'd like one of those
17:55 GuShH they don't make them like that anymore
17:57 GuShH http://www.wentztech.com/metalworking/equipment/7x10-mini-lathe/
17:58 GuShH Heh if you use square stock it just can't rotate to begin with
17:58 GuShH or even a part machined to fit snug into the cavity
17:58 Tom_itx a bit hard to do on mine
17:59 GuShH http://www.mini-lathe.com/Mini_lathe/Modifications/Camlock_tailstock/Camlock.htm that's on the ugly side
18:00 GuShH nice spacer though
18:01 GuShH I would've faced the nut to get rid of the markings...
18:01 GuShH well, the bolt head.
18:04 GuShH http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/f28/tailstock-cam-lock-mini-lathe-6804/
18:04 GuShH a bit expensive for what it is
18:07 GuShH http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atlas_craftsman/message/69767
18:09 Tom_itx 101° F Partly Cloudy
20:13 rue_house ah! thats how!
20:39 GuShH rue_house: the what?
22:10 rue_house the lock lever
22:10 rue_house I'd been trying to remember how it worked
22:18 MrCurious some days its good to get home
22:18 robotustra hi
22:18 robotustra I hope you are drunk
22:19 MrCurious nope
22:21 robotustra do you see PM?
23:15 MrCurious OMG< her neck...
