05:47 GuShH MrCurious: yep it's here, but I was asleep, not actually playing with the lathe heh
07:39 GuShH RifRaf: hrmm one of the steadies wasn't milled properly, not enough clearance for the "finger" to slide so instead they hammered it on... it wouldn't even move. Had to carefully remove it using a piece of wood for leverage, then I had to file it (used a bastard/coarse first) sigh... that's one those excuses to get a mill heh
08:26 GuShH Motor has start and run cap, so it has to have a switch whether it's a centrifugal one or not I haven't determined it, but that means you can't quite VFD it as it is
09:05 GuShH Alright a few things are mentioned in the list and manual but aren't anywhere to be seen, so I'm going to give these guys a good one. Specially the chuck cover, the spanners and the live centers which are all mentioned but were not included. I can picture whoever checked the lathe before it shipped out stealing these parts when they opened the toolbox, as for the cover.. maybe it was removed for testing or it came cracked and they played dumb.
09:05 GuShH The sum of all the missing parts is not a couple cents, so this is worth arguing about.
13:42 GuShH theBear: http://www.thefabricator.com/article/fabstories/getting-in-tune-with-tube that blue one is pure art
13:42 GuShH http://image.thefabricator.com/a/getting-in-tune-with-tube-branch-electric-guitar-blue.jpg holy shit man
13:42 GuShH that's the most beautiful guitar I've seen so far, there's some crazy shit out there but nothing that nice.
13:44 GuShH I'd like to hear it though
14:47 GuShH "The optimist says the glass is half full, the pessimist says it's half empty. The paranoid in me says somebody put a hole in it." haha
17:41 KongfuPanda hello
17:45 ace4016 hi
18:39 GuShH RifRaf: yerp that spindle belt is way too crappy... I wonder why they went with that
18:39 GuShH looks like a size constraint at first glance
18:40 GuShH otherwise the pulleys would have to be 3 times thicker on each step to accomodate a more common belt, not just twice.
18:40 GuShH I guess they could be replaced with thicker ones but then the cover wouldn't shut
18:43 GuShH runs quiet though, can't see how the tensioner is used as a clutch as-is in both positions it has enough tension to turn the spindle just fine
18:45 GuShH http://www.stellar-international.com/lathe.html
18:47 GuShH some fantastic ideas right there
18:47 GuShH including mine (the treadmill motor) but it turns out others have already thought about it :p
18:47 GuShH they're great motors, too bad I can't find any cheap ones
18:50 GuShH oh the tailstock lever lock idea is also featured, it was trivial but that's exactly what I had in mind!
18:55 ShH thinks the guy went overkill but is somehow very turned on by the end re
18:55 theBear heh, that's what she said
18:56 GuShH of course a DRO like that would cost me as much as the lathe heh
18:56 GuShH stupid country
19:01 GuShH RifRaf: even if a direct way to turn off and stall the spindle is not doable without converting to a DC motor drive, I think a microswitch with a buzzer could be a good start
19:01 GuShH with an SSR though you could still turn the motor off, but there's some momentum involved... and if you set the stop switch far enough you'd lose travel
19:02 ShH wonders if theBear has any i
19:07 Tom_itx make a dro with an avr
19:07 GuShH I'd rather buy a surplus DRO setup, but I can't really
19:21 RifRaf let looking forward to see what you do with it, i have the day off work :)
19:22 RifRaf no power all day there
19:22 Jak_o_Shadows so, k.rudd
19:22 RifRaf better than that redhead
19:27 Jak_o_Shadows haha
19:31 GuShH RifRaf: wait until I get tools and stock then!
19:32 GuShH fixed the gearbox lever... on that website he mentions it was annoying to use a wrench, that's because most of these are not properly assembled (the handle is spring loaded and contains a double set of lock nuts) so if you lock it too tight there's no travel for the spring
19:32 GuShH making it just a stiff handle and the only way to change gears is to use a wrench
19:33 GuShH unless you take it all apart and rebuild it the proper way
19:33 RifRaf just sliced my finger open, 3 first aid kits and no bandaids :/ had to resort to cigarette paper and electrical tape
19:33 GuShH :(
19:33 GuShH actually masking tape and TP works on a pinch
19:34 GuShH bandaids are always in short supply...
19:34 GuShH should keep a pack by the tool rack heh
19:34 RifRaf is fine, stopped bleeding right away with some pressure
19:34 GuShH gauze and medical tape (or masking tape!) is much better anyway
19:35 GuShH I stabbed my right index the other day, again. there are several scars to prove this finger is of redundant design.
19:35 GuShH magnetic base and comparator... generic brand it seems, about 200 usd... sigh
19:36 GuShH Is it me or this one uses thicker pulleys and belt? http://www.mibot.com/img/img_4933_lrg.jpg
19:38 GuShH yep about 3 times thicker like it should be
19:38 ShH wonders if that's an older
19:41 RifRaf looks thicker than the normal one
19:50 rue_house oh wow, where I have a gearbox, yours just goes straight thru
19:52 rue_house whats the model?
19:56 RifRaf printed first succesfull bearing, double one in gimbal, 27 balls
20:01 rue_house cool
20:08 GuShH rue_house: you have the "1UP" model
20:08 GuShH this one is semi-norton
20:09 rue_house hmm
20:09 GuShH and there's direct drive for the spindle, instead of a gearbox
20:09 GuShH but it seems to be the same overall frame
20:10 GuShH just different configurations for their models
20:11 GuShH a treadmill motor conversion and a proper driver would make it much better than a mechanical gearbox IMO
20:11 GuShH less moving parts, less wear
20:13 GuShH RifRaf: any idea if the shafts for the pulleys are keyed or splined? I can't make it out from the exploded view, the print quality is very bad on my manual
20:13 GuShH I guess it's keyed or similar
20:17 RifRaf they have keys
20:56 MrCurious RifRaf: the enclosed one is for 3d printer, the open big one os for cnc
20:57 MrCurious GuShH: lathe?
21:00 Curious pulls the channel fire a
21:02 m_itx aims a firehose at MrCurious and turns i
21:05 ShH gets naked and starts dancing on top of MrCurious'
21:07 GuShH fooling around with pvc and similar plastics until I get proper stock or finish the tiny foundry, whatever comes first. still waiting on tooling. won't be able to use it much tomorrow though, maybe I'll get it all setup by the weekend.
21:07 GuShH there's a lot of labour involved with these chinese lathes... I would think the mills are just as problematic.
21:10 MrCurious hah!
21:11 MrCurious yeah, some assembly and a lot of tuning required
21:11 GuShH If by tuning you mean fabricating parts and re-assembling others...
21:11 ShH bl
21:12 MrCurious no
21:12 MrCurious i mean tilt quil column, tighten
21:12 MrCurious then again and again and again
21:12 MrCurious until its aligned and cuts strait
21:13 GuShH I need a comparator for alignment on the lathe.
21:13 GuShH "test gauge" or "dial indicator" as some fools may say.
21:14 ShH wonders why eBay thinks I'd be interested on women shoes and pu
21:15 Curious starts to wonder
21:15 MrCurious guessing you are a snappier dresser than you have let on
21:15 MrCurious and they are called man-bags, not purses
21:15 Jak_o_Android I bought sone stuff for a friend, now my ebay suggestions is odd.
21:16 GuShH I never bought anything weird
21:16 GuShH other than a borescope listed as an endoscope
21:16 GuShH NOT for medical use.
21:16 GuShH it's a glorified usb webcam
21:16 MrCurious so ebay thinks THATS how you like to play?
21:16 GuShH right.
21:16 GuShH so naturally, purses and dresses and shoes and...
21:16 MrCurious daymn, woman on news has neck rolls
21:17 GuShH eekk
21:17 GuShH shoot that thing down!
21:17 GuShH burn it before it spreads.
21:17 MrCurious ever seen a frog....
21:17 MrCurious totally the same look
21:17 GuShH news anchors should be slim.
21:18 MrCurious it looks like her head is resting on a baloon cushon
21:18 GuShH lol
21:18 MrCurious this is a witness in a case
21:18 MrCurious finally, image changed and now i can look away
21:18 GuShH did she witness how fucking ugly she is?
21:18 MrCurious you know moe from 3 stuges
21:18 GuShH ha
21:18 MrCurious thats the hair style, with a pony tail in back
21:19 GuShH biker moe
21:19 MrCurious wow. her neck is as wide as the widest portion of her head, or wider
21:20 MrCurious thats what is freaking me out. proportion is way off
21:20 GuShH let it go.
21:20 MrCurious someone get her some iodized salt!
21:20 GuShH shes clearly a lizard
21:20 MrCurious changing channel
21:20 GuShH yeah go to the porny one
21:20 MrCurious thank you for giving me the sense to look away
21:20 MrCurious crap! on cnn too!
21:20 GuShH neck gone viral
21:21 MrCurious enough with the zimmerman bs, lets go to the gay people
21:21 MrCurious i think the supreme court freed them today
21:21 ShH pictures a public gay fuck
21:21 GuShH AIDS FOR EVERYONE
21:24 MrCurious are those die antwoord lyrics?
21:26 MrCurious was debating modifying my DIY projector to use a 45 deg reflection using a first surface mirror
21:26 MrCurious searched the web, and apparently they are easy to make from regular mirrors using paint stripper
21:34 MrCurious not really the right channel to talk FS mirrors?
22:29 MrCurious M1.6x6
22:29 MrCurious how long would the threaded portion of that be? 6cm? 6mm?
22:36 Tom_itx 1.6 isn't on my chart
22:36 Tom_itx 6mm would be rather long for that small a thread
22:36 Tom_itx probably
22:36 robotustra :)
22:37 robotustra you can always cut it
22:37 robotustra hi
22:38 robotustra M1.6 has 0.35mm step
22:38 robotustra M2 has 0.4mm
22:39 robotustra 6mm
22:41 robotustra 6 mm length
22:43 MrCurious i need a M6x1.0 that is 20mm long
22:43 MrCurious for my bearing blocks, they take a M6 1.0 thread
22:44 MrCurious robotustra: still here?
22:47 RifRaf thats common here, you just want a M6x20 with 1mm pitch
22:47 MrCurious http://www.ebay.com/itm/Socket-Head-Cap-Screw-class-12-9-M6-1-0x20mm-X100-/170898398623?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27ca569d9f
22:47 RifRaf 1mm pitch is standard for an m6
22:48 MrCurious thats what i figured
22:54 robotustra yes
22:55 robotustra M6 has step 1 mm
22:55 robotustra why do you use metric bolts in US?
22:56 robotustra do you prepare tech revolusion in North Ametica? :))
22:56 MrCurious my 20mm bearing blocks take m6x1.0 20mm
22:56 robotustra *revolution
22:56 MrCurious cheap chinese products
22:56 MrCurious so i need a bolt that is a hybrid between metric and english
22:57 MrCurious to hold it tight
22:57 MrCurious robotustra: http://www.ebay.com/itm/170898398623?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
22:57 MrCurious that one look ok?
22:57 MrCurious strange. i cant PM you
