00:06 rue_bed I wonder how I most easily take care of 25 current regulated channels
03:30 GuShH RifRaf: forgot to ask, do these lathes have power crossfeed?
06:35 RifRaf yes
11:02 rue_bed but mine only feeds to the left
11:02 rue_bed I need to make a reversing setup
14:26 Curious wishes someone would show off their work so he could feel a sense of
16:15 rue_more hmm
16:16 rue_more I should make a youtube video of the arm
16:21 MrCurious ARM the ARM
17:18 -sendak.freenode.net:#robotics- [freenode-info] help freenode weed out clonebots -- please register your IRC nick and auto-identify: http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#nicksetup
17:44 rue_shop3 think I'll make that borring bar
19:11 rue_more hmm it worked, but then I marred up the cylinder while cutting it square, oh well
19:17 MrCurious what is it about saturdays that make it so hard to locate motivation...
19:18 rue_more lack of a pendeing friday
19:22 MrCurious that could be it
19:26 rue_more pretnd it thursday, see if it works
19:28 MrCurious managed to get off my ass and drill 2 holes
19:28 MrCurious next to saw 2 slots
20:07 rue_more I want a cookie
20:07 rue_more but I need a nap..
20:09 Tom_itx you could have had a salad
20:10 GuShH a cookie salad
21:32 eadthem anyone have any sugestions for where to buy gears
21:32 eadthem amazon is like 18$ each
21:32 eadthem SDP is also a arm and leg
21:33 eadthem i need bevel gears 1/4 bore and 3/8 bore
21:39 Tom_itx mcmaster is gonna be the same
21:40 eadthem they dont have the gears
21:40 eadthem i have thought of buying some brass and drilling out 1
21:40 eadthem ie brass gears
21:40 eadthem but i have had very little luck getting a drill bit to not chatter in metal
21:41 Tom_itx brass likes to pull the drill
21:42 eadthem well steel not done brass yet
21:50 MrCurious sweet motivation
21:50 cuog eadthem: what are you drilling with?
21:51 eadthem just past experence
21:52 cuog what tool you're using can have a lot of effect on drilling metal, especially hand drills chatter like crazy
21:52 cuog best way to drill out gears would be lathe, but you could get away with using a drill press pretty easily
21:54 MrCurious use a hole punch to dimple the metal prior to engaging the drill
21:55 cuog if the gear blank does't have a hole of some size already drilled I wouldn't drill it out any way other than the lathe. I was assuming he could get gears with the wrong size hole through and needed to drill them out to the proper size
21:59 MrCurious unless he has a mill machine and a nice vise...
21:59 cuog its still going to be much harder to get dead center that way
22:00 MrCurious unless... he drills a 1/2 " plate of aluminum, and clamps it to the gear as a guide...
22:00 MrCurious but a metal lathe would be much better...
22:04 eadthem im not worred about drilling anything
22:04 eadthem finding the right gears would be ideal
22:05 eadthem well prefferably not at 20$ a gear for plastic
22:05 eadthem im mostly wonderign if sdp has a compeditor
22:09 Tom_itx have rue send you some gears
22:09 Tom_itx he's got a whole box full
22:11 Tom_itx http://www.scientificsonline.com/plastic-gears.html
22:13 Tom_itx have a reprapper print you some
22:13 eadthem that might be the best idea atm
22:14 Tom_itx http://www.gizmoszone.com/shopping/agora.cgi?product=Other_gear;ppinc=1a
22:15 Tom_itx http://www.gizmoszone.com/shopping/agora.cgi?page=plastic_gear.htm
22:16 eadthem has to be 1/4 and 3/8 2 of each
22:17 Tom_itx how many fangs?
22:17 eadthem dosent matter
22:18 eadthem theres a 3/8 threaded rod on the near and far x axis
22:18 eadthem drivin by a common 1/4 inch shaft
22:18 eadthem low stress and low speed
22:18 Tom_itx http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n%3A16412081%2Cp_n_feature_seven_browse-bin%3A3071257011
22:18 eadthem right angle
22:19 Tom_itx to turn a corner?
22:19 eadthem and the problem with those is they have 1 size at 4$ or 2$
22:19 eadthem its a unherd of size nobody buys much of
22:19 eadthem and the rest cost over 20$
22:20 eadthem i just dont fancy spending 80$ on 4 gears
22:20 eadthem expecialy for molded
22:21 Tom_itx http://www.qtcgears.com/RFQ/BevelGears.htm
22:24 Tom_itx http://gearsmade.com/
22:27 Tom_itx http://www.rushgears.com/catpages/allmiter.pdf
22:28 Tom_itx page 4
22:28 Tom_itx .250 bore .375 bore
22:30 eadthem last one ile try
22:31 eadthem i wanted to avoid having to call someone to find a price but might have to
22:31 Tom_itx not quite a 1:1 ratio
22:31 eadthem that qtcgears wants the usual 20$ for a plastic gear
22:33 eadthem i mean my feeling is thats horrably unresable
22:33 eadthem am i wrong?
22:50 cuog eadthem: its hard to get a decent price on gears for some reason, I would expect there to be tons of vendors for them since they're used all over the place, but I guess no one really wants to talk to you if you're not ordering quantities in the hundreds
22:54 GuShH http://www.practicalmachinist.com/pulscale.jpg o.o
22:54 cuog sex sells
23:06 rue_more GuShH, there dont seem to be 'generic gears' buy gears for a popular car transmission
23:18 eadthem thanks tom i think i found it however
23:18 eadthem cya tomarow
