00:10 RifRaf looks like a good size bot
00:10 MrCurious OWI
00:10 MrCurious $50 each
00:10 MrCurious 3' tall
00:10 MrCurious was supposed to be 50' and made of titanium and steel with massive crushing arms
00:11 MrCurious but i had some budget problems, and downsided to 3', plastic and aluminum, and arms that crush small to medium flees
00:14 RifRaf ah, they look like strong arms, are they a kit
00:15 MrCurious yes
00:16 MrCurious not that strong
00:16 MrCurious maybe lift a 9v battery
00:16 MrCurious but 5 DOF
00:16 MrCurious retro0fitting them with hall effect sensors and a pair of rare earth magnets on the first gear fed from the motor's work gear
00:17 MrCurious that should make them positionally accurate
00:17 MrCurious also have a pair of laptop lid cams i may attach to the hands for close up object grasping help
00:17 MrCurious the purple on top is 10 ping sensors at 36DEG spacing
00:17 RifRaf nice, if you want any gripper parts let me know, have made a few
00:18 RifRaf yep noticed the ping array
00:18 MrCurious and omni wheels for hopefully rapid movements in all directions
00:18 MrCurious may shorten the bot if it turns out to want to topple
00:18 RifRaf you hoping that all obstacles will be at head height?
00:18 MrCurious also have an idea for how to remake teh main top-box to minimize weight
00:19 RifRaf make it balance
00:19 MrCurious it has a kinect, and will have a pair of hand cams
00:19 MrCurious and may put some ps3 eye cams on the legs for good measure
00:19 MrCurious it does have a raspberry pi and a 10 DOF baord
00:20 MrCurious so it will know if its toppling
00:20 MrCurious hoing the odroid-u2 can act as a decoder for the kinect. the raspberry pi couldnt get me better than ~7fps
00:21 MrCurious i think i could replace the ping support with a hollow aluminum rod... save some high up weight
00:21 MrCurious i think though i will keep what i have, and finish before getting all revision crazy
00:44 RifRaf hoping to get me 10DOF board in next few days so i can start replacing the sonar for better balancing
00:44 RifRaf am glad somebody else if making a big bot, should have my base moving around by remote control tonight maybe
00:47 MrCurious did you get the $15 !)DOF board off ebay?
00:48 MrCurious 10DOF $15 ebay
01:02 rue_bed "board"
01:02 rue_bed 10 servo controller?
01:02 rue_bed 15 would be about right
01:02 RifRaf mine was about $20, think maybe aliexpress but not sure, will tell ya when i get home
01:03 RifRaf in bed already rue? or are you living in bed?
01:04 rue_bed I'm in bed from 9:45 pm to 6:15 am
01:05 RifRaf far too much time
01:05 RifRaf bout 10pm till 4am these days
01:10 RifRaf rue_bed 10 dof, like accel, gyro pressure and magnetometer i think
01:11 rue_bed ah
01:15 RifRaf MrCurious will your robot have any particular purpose?
01:18 RifRaf rue_bed did you upgrade the mover bot or just mowing the lawn?
01:18 rue_bed not yes, but I have a lot of machines I could do it with, so its not out of hte question
01:21 MrCurious RifRaf: yes. to teach me
01:22 MrCurious wait... they are supposed to have a purpose
01:22 MrCurious how could i have overlooked that detail
01:22 GargantuaSauce same thing we do every night pinky
01:29 RifRaf MrCurious every bot needs a purpose in life or they might get bored and turn on you
01:31 MrCurious good thing i made it small enough to physically dominate :D
01:33 RifRaf so its 3 foot tall? looks more like 5
01:35 MrCurious nope just over my belt line
01:35 MrCurious table saw to the left
01:36 RifRaf cool, musta been the angle
01:37 RifRaf well this was a boring day, but time to go home finally
02:18 mrliao anybody tried out http://www.coppeliarobotics.com/ ? looks interesting and much friendlier than microsoft robotics...
02:18 mrliao robotics simulator
02:19 RifRaf nope, have you?
02:19 mrliao yup
02:19 mrliao they just recently open sourced it
02:20 RifRaf just simulations or made real robots?
02:20 mrliao i just tried out the simulations, but from the docs i read you could do some co-space stuff with it as well
02:29 Hukka mrliao: Thanks for the link, I hadn't even heard of it before
02:30 Hukka Which parts are open source?
02:31 Hukka They still are selling some pro version, and the free is only for edu use
02:47 mrliao the licensing terms are a little confusing...
02:50 Jak_o_Android I might have a look at it later
02:50 mrliao oh it seems that the framework is GPLed but the plugins are under a "educational" licence
03:33 Hukka Ok, that's pretty ok licensing. I mean it's clear enough
03:47 Jak_o_Android Besides, unless you make money off it, how much would they care?
05:33 RifRaf ready for test tomorrow http://imagebin.org/253333
05:39 Jak_o_Android Nice
05:39 RifRaf just put it on scales, 53.4kg
06:15 RifRaf remote control is working, one motor needs to be reversed
06:16 RifRaf and motors not getting to full speed with this 3A desktop psu
06:16 RifRaf but only 140mA when idle so happy with that
06:40 Jak_o_Android I need to get a incertitude power supply. Mine are a bunch of old wall warts.
06:42 RifRaf yeah nice to be able to see voltage and current
06:42 RifRaf before hooking up main battery, and fuse is not done yet either
08:41 RifRaf would hot glue be the slightest bit conductive? for 12V 50A terminal
08:41 hackkitten at high enough voltages anything is conductive :D
08:41 RifRaf is low voltage, high current
08:42 hackkitten for this situation it depends on the thickness of the glue between the two conductive parts and the breakdown voltage of said glue layer
08:42 RifRaf 3mm gap
08:42 hackkitten sounds like sparky time
08:42 theBear it aint conductive
08:42 RifRaf i'll take a before picture in case someone doubts the soldering
08:42 theBear hi kitty
08:42 hackkitten hi theBear :)
08:43 RifRaf evenin bear
08:43 theBear erg
08:47 RifRaf wanna coat this with glue to prevent shorts
08:47 RifRaf er this http://imagebin.org/253353
08:56 theBear you sure that wire can take 50a ? anyway, glue won't hurt
08:57 Triffid_Hunter RifRaf: 12v? glue away
08:57 Triffid_Hunter even if it is slightly conductive it's not gonna do anything interesting, and if it does then you found the next great advancement in printable circuitry
08:57 Triffid_Hunter either way you get to win
08:58 SorcererX 50A wiring.. sounds.. hefty
08:59 RifRaf is all glued up now, took 3 little sticks
09:02 RifRaf http://imagebin.org/253355
09:03 RifRaf theBear, its just big sony car audio cable, is way thicker than all motors combined though so will be enough
09:04 RifRaf to power motor drivers from marine deep cycle battery
20:48 orlok Hmm. Any possible use for 19" server rack kits?
20:48 orlok some with bearings, some without
20:49 Tom_itx i bet you can think of something
21:31 MrCurious woo hoo. 2x3 lipo cells from a macbook pro hooked up to a 3s charge/discharge controler, a dpdt switch, and a pair of dc-dc converters now putting out 5 and 12, though both are adjustable :D
22:09 MrCurious and feeding odroid-u2 off of it in a run time test
23:23 Rif MrCurious so this odroid is a little computer running the android os?
23:26 Rif i've got this little android pc like this http://www.laptopmag.com/review/stick-computers/android-mini-pc-rk3066.aspx that i hope to use as well with a robot
23:27 MrCurious rif: ubuntu, 4 cores, 2ghz, 2g ram, and a 8g emmc thats super fast
23:28 MrCurious i think same chip or next gen of the one in the samsung note 2
23:29 MrCurious http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G135341370451
23:30 Rif looks neat
23:34 MrCurious need to test it streaming images off a kinect next
