00:01 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows1: because you need to pull the gate 10v higher than the source to turn on a N-mosfet
00:02 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows1: your schematic can't take the gate more than 6v below V+
00:03 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows1: also, even if you fixed that, they'll explode when you change direction because you'll have both high and low side mosfets on at the same time for several milliseconds
00:15 Jak_o_Shadows1 For the last point, If i spent a longer amount of time switching, so the resistors drain the mosfets, would that prevent explosions?
00:19 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows1: http://triffid-hunter.no-ip.info/mosfet%20high%20side%20gate%20driver.png <-- by the time you get to about here for the high side gate drive, you start to see why using a proper gate driver IC is so attractive
00:20 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows1: you want the mosfets to switch as fast as possible. you also want the ones that are on to finish turning off before the ones that are off begin to turn on
00:20 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows1: to satisfy both of those requirements, you need to implement the delay in logic, before the gate drivers
00:27 Lola8088
00:29 Triffid_Hunter ?
00:50 Jak_o_Shadows1 Yeah, was thinking of using the hip 4082 (?)(5082?) like someone (you?) said, just was gonna test if the parts work., plus actially see a h-bridge working.
00:59 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows1: yeah HIP4082 is good, it has the bootstrapped high side drivers and crossover dead time built in, basically if you pick the dead time resistor properly it makes your h-bridge fireproof
01:00 Jak_o_Shadows1 fireproof is a good thing.
01:12 Triffid_Hunter well it won't protect it from overload, but you have no risk of shoot-through which is the #1 cause of fire amongst amateur h-bridge builders
01:33 rue_house theBear, any experiance with 100W leds?
01:37 theBear only 50w, and not much yet
01:37 Rif wat you wanna know rue, i use several hundred watt led arrays often
01:37 Rif just balanced for like 5 seconds
01:42 rue_house how do 50W compare to MH 50W?
01:42 rue_house oh
01:42 rue_house I wanna know how MH 100W compares to 100W led
01:43 Rif could me me light tester to tell you if i had a bulb
01:43 Rif use*
01:43 Rif my servos might be a little slow, but strong enough, so make the wheel bigger eh?
01:44 rue_house yup
01:46 theBear i'd say they compare pretty well... VERY different emission pattern, but whites look similar, colour rendering looks similar (to a colourblind guy :) and brightness is pretty similar too, as the number would suggestr
01:52 rue_house hmm
01:52 rue_house the numbers I'm seeing indicate the led is about 40% brighter
01:53 rue_house but that dosn't always show
01:54 rue_house Mem: 78648k total, 76280k used, 2368k free, 12480k buffers
01:54 rue_house maybe tobbor has a memory problem
02:00 Rif time to upgrade
02:02 theBear rue_house, you tend to find as more leds are arrayed the efficiency goes down more and more
10:22 xclusive585 what are some of the most accurate methods/sensors for measuring distance at close range? i.e. what kind of accuracy/tolerance can you measure close proximity distance to, and with what type of sensor?
10:46 jjj246 hi
10:46 jjj246 helloooo
10:46 jjj246 ??
10:47 jjj246 question otput of mp3 player is ac or dc?
15:05 rue_house hmm output capcitor coupling means AC
16:06 ik0n what would i need to replace a 3 position slide switch with a button?
16:07 ik0n i tried looking for a 3 poistion push button switch but none of them seemed to fit my needs
16:08 rue_house whats does the switch switch?
16:08 rue_house is it for a hair dryer?
16:09 rue_house if so, 2 triacs, a microcontroller, and an electronics lab
16:09 ik0n it's a switch on a playstation controller. it switches between left/right analog and the dpad
16:09 rue_house ah
16:09 rue_house how many wires are on twh switch
16:09 ik0n i think four
16:10 rue_house there are 2 different ways that could be wired
16:10 rue_house do you know if the controller runs on 5V or 3.3V
16:11 ik0n no
16:12 rue_house well break out the multimeter and probe for voltages onw ith swtich till ya know
16:12 ik0n a simple microcontroller would be the easiest way to do it?
16:12 rue_house maybe, maybe not
16:15 rue_house but in all likleyhood most probably
16:23 f clears a path through the magic s
16:24 Maya-sama :D
16:25 RifRaf /msg NickServ identify redhat
16:28 rue_house the fileserver has been operating flawlessly for over 10 yeras, should I upgrade it?
16:30 rue_house maybe I'll see how the pcb workstation upgarde goes first
16:30 rue_house must be soemting i can go do in the sun
16:30 ckkitten notes someone quickly changing his ID passwor
16:30 RifRaf heh
16:31 rue_house hackkitten, all real passwords are starred out,
16:32 rue_house see if I put my password here like this ******* all you will see are stars
16:32 rue_house so redhat isn't his password or it would all be starred out
16:32 RifRaf yeah righ
16:32 RifRaf not anymore anyway
16:33 RifRaf now my password is ***********
16:33 RifRaf did you see that?
16:33 rue_house that must be your password!
16:33 RifRaf yep
16:34 RifRaf you should see the holes i blew in these servo fets
16:34 RifRaf and the wires on breadboard i welded together last night
16:35 rue_house good show
16:35 rue_house shall we do the chapter on reverse protection and fuses now?
16:35 rue_house :)
16:35 RifRaf 5000mAh lipo plugged in wrong way
16:36 rue_house I thought those connectors didn't go backwards
16:36 RifRaf and today the same lipo killed the servos while testing balancing bot
16:36 rue_house |- >
16:36 rue_house ?
16:36 RifRaf they do if you connect it to the breadboard backwards
16:36 rue_house oh I killed two encodermotors once with reverse polarity, man was I pissed
16:37 RifRaf i soldered a connecter to a few rows of pins, but plugged it in wrong way around
16:37 rue_house yea, I'v been in the habbit since them to put a dummy diode on the breadboard
16:37 RifRaf yeah i know, anyway is all good, had servos on different battery so uC ok
16:37 rue_house dont typ need a fuse cause I use 1A switching wall warts
16:37 RifRaf and replaced and modded another servo
16:37 rue_house sucks to have to rebvuild int eh middle of the project
16:38 RifRaf but i need bigger wheels
16:38 RifRaf i spent time in excel looking at me PID loop and understanding it
16:38 rue_house those dont slip eh? I was surprised you dont have thick rubber bands around them
16:38 RifRaf didn't have any
16:39 RifRaf not slipping
16:39 rue_house I didn't notice if the pid calcs you had were timed?
16:39 RifRaf is enough whight in it
16:39 RifRaf weight
16:39 rue_house I'm gonna go sit in the sun more, get my Vit D
16:39 RifRaf does not like carpet as much as flat floor, but thats the sonic sensor
16:39 RifRaf thinking of adding an accel
16:39 RifRaf or making something new till i get bigger wheels
17:08 jennie hello
17:08 jennie please tell me names of good rc forums
17:14 rue_house dunno, I'll get you that schematic while I'm mobile tho
17:16 jennie mobile ?
17:58 rue_house jennie, I have it, along with a number of corrections
17:58 jennie ok :-)
17:58 rue_house while I'm not sick in bed
17:58 jennie where
17:58 jennie ?
17:59 rue_house hold on
17:59 rue_house this should be really close
17:59 rue_house your gonna wish you were using a chip tho
17:59 rue_house hip 4081 might help alot, but you would need 2
18:00 GuShH you are still on this?
18:00 Tom_itx cool, atmel has a newer version of winavr that supports the attiny10 with c
18:00 Tom_itx before it was purely asm
18:00 rue_house hah
18:00 Tom_itx 3.4.1
18:00 rue_house compiling wasn't the problem, space is
18:01 Tom_itx prior to that there was no c support for it
18:01 rue_house pff
18:01 Tom_itx unless you wanted to make your own header etc
18:01 rue_house I'm pretty sure I remember compiling for tiny10 using gcc, I went from C to asm, edited the asm and compled/uploaded that
18:01 Tom_itx i'm pretty sure you didn't
18:03 rue_house jennie,
18:03 Tom_itx you don't use windows though either
18:04 rue_house !assist circuits/phasedriver.jpg
18:04 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/circuits/phasedriver.jpg
18:04 rue_house dont they use gcc too?
18:04 Tom_itx yeah
18:04 Tom_itx for c support
18:04 rue_house jennie, tell me if you can make out all the details
18:04 jennie ok
18:05 jennie let me look
18:06 jennie which one is transistor below TIP42 ? and which diodes to put ?
18:06 GuShH Tom_itx: are there any better deals than this on eBay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/190814415169
18:06 rue_house jennie, dont let me hold you up either, if yo uhave ideas, totally try them out
18:06 rue_house you have the better diodes as I recall
18:06 rue_house the tip42 was one of the origional transistors you got
18:06 GuShH is this about the brushless, still?
18:07 rue_house oh below, thats your fet
18:07 rue_house GuShH, then you get it going for him!
18:07 GuShH him?
18:07 GuShH I thought jennie was a "her"
18:07 rue_house dont SAY you can do a better job, JUST DO IT!
18:07 GuShH I did say that?
18:07 GuShH where exactly?
18:07 Tom_itx i'd be a little hesitant getting avrs from ebay china
18:07 rue_house ok, whatever, human potato, female, male, whatever
18:07 GuShH Also Nike just called, they want everything you own.
18:07 Tom_itx but that's a decent price
18:08 GuShH I've got fakes before
18:08 GuShH but a refund was issued (I won the dispute) so... no harm
18:08 rue_house I'm gonna go put oil in my mower and see if it'll start
18:08 Tom_itx not if you have time to waste
18:08 GuShH I just mowed the lawn heh
18:09 Tom_itx rue_house put it in the crankcase not the fuel tank
18:09 jennie below TIP42 I have to put STP55N06 I have ?
18:09 GuShH Tom_itx: since it's for hobby purposes, if it doesn't work it's an instant complaint and a couple mails after you get your money back
18:09 rue_house wonder if the mower would burn cleaner if I swap the oil and gas...
18:09 rue_house jennie, yup
18:09 jennie ok :-)
18:09 GuShH briggs? tecumseh?
18:09 GuShH some china OHV honda ripoff?
18:09 rue_house see I was close I said 60N22 and yours is 55N06
18:09 jennie yeah
18:09 jennie PIC code will remain unchanged ?
18:09 ShH doesn't like the new briggs c
18:10 rue_house human, potato, WHATEVER!
18:10 Tom_itx detroit diesel
18:10 rue_house jennie, no, you have to completely change it according to the operation of that table
18:10 rue_house bye!
18:10 GuShH the only part I enjoy about OHV is adjusting the valves heh
18:11 jennie pok
18:11 jennie Ok*
18:19 GuShH http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tube-Unit-Remington-Rand-Eckert-Mauchly-Division-Univac-1950-s-Computer-/140928989798?_trksid=p2047675.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555003%26algo%3DPW.CAT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D142%26meid%3D6595059926983345261%26pid%3D100010%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D10%26sd%3D181066785778%26
18:19 GuShH jeez
18:21 Tom_itx where do i permananetly change windows path var?
18:22 Tom_itx if i change it in a shell, it reverts when i close it
18:23 RifRaf environment varibles
18:23 RifRaf in advanced system settings, google will show you
18:25 Tom_itx is that under administration?
18:27 Tom_itx funny, it's not in that path var but when i type 'path' from a cmd line it's there
18:28 Tom_itx ok nevermind
18:28 Tom_itx i was looking at the user 'path' not the system 'path'
18:36 Tom_itx ok that's better
18:36 Tom_itx RifRaf do you want the latest winavr?
18:50 rue_shop2 he can m,ail it to ya, save time on downloading :)
18:51 Tom_itx rue_shop2
18:51 Tom_itx what does this mean:
18:52 Tom_L m -rf *.o int0.elf *.eps *.png *.pdf *.bak
18:52 Tom_L rm: cannot lstat `*.o': Invalid argument
18:52 Tom_L rm: cannot lstat `*.eps': Invalid argument
18:52 Tom_L rm: cannot lstat `*.png': Invalid argument
18:52 rue_shop2 it means you just entered the channel
18:52 Tom_L rm: cannot lstat `*.pdf': Invalid argument
18:52 Tom_L rm: cannot lstat `*.bak': Invalid argument
18:52 rue_shop2 it means the filesystem you have mounted wont allow access for reading the files
18:52 rue_shop2 it'll only say they are there
18:53 Tom_L they should be read write
18:53 rue_shop2 "should be"
18:53 rue_shop2 many levels for problems to come in
18:53 Tom_L i can manually delete them
18:53 rue_shop2 what kinda filsystem mount is it?
18:53 rue_shop2 nfs or samba?
18:53 Tom_L it's make under xp with winavr
18:54 rue_shop2 oooh
18:54 rue_shop2 maybe its calling rm wrong
18:54 Tom_L it worked before
18:54 Tom_L modded the path now it won't work but i did save the original path
18:55 Tom_L i wonder if a reboot is required
18:55 rue_shop2 maybe you included a path with a different rm command in it
18:56 Tom_L probably
18:56 Tom_L i should rename that one huh?
18:57 rue_shop2 or change the order of the paths
18:57 Tom_L naw, i want the new compiler first
18:57 Triffid_Hunter I'd say the globs aren't matching any files so it's trying to open verbatim '*.o' and windows filesystem is choking
18:57 Triffid_Hunter because windows won't let you have a filename with an asterisk in it
18:57 rue_shop2 yes it will
18:58 Tom_L i renamed the new rm.exe and it works ok
18:58 rue_shop2 you can *.* *.- and -.* on windows
18:58 Tom_L odd
18:58 Triffid_Hunter you sure? I know it won't let you put colons and things in filenames
19:00 Tom_L so i wonder what the new rm.exe expects
19:00 Tom_L it deleted the first file
19:00 Tom_L the .elf
19:01 Triffid_Hunter heh trust windows to break something as simple as rm
19:02 Tom_L they likely modded it to work with studio 6 since that's where it came from
19:21 jennie rue_house here? I got a problem
19:21 rue_house whats your problem
19:21 rue_house if you say my name, I'll come back and read it eventually
19:39 th1 hi
19:45 jennie rue_house: whats the correct sequence for the PIC is with that new sequence.. is it 10 11 10 00 for the first phase and then shifted a position for each of the other ones, or what?
20:01 rue_house remember the table I made with the code?
20:01 rue_house I gave you the code for it
20:01 rue_house it had 0's 1's and -1's
20:27 rue_house I dont know if I should do a senseless upgrade on the mowerbot
20:53 Tom_itx oh go ahead
21:07 Jak_o_Shadows2 go ahead, more spinning blades is always good
21:15 rue_house 386 -> itx floppy drive -> CF card
21:44 RifRaf or avr and sdcard
23:17 rue_house if I used an avr I wouldnt need the sdcard, but I wouldn't get wifi from it either
23:17 RifRaf sure you could
23:36 MrCurious someone show a picture of their robot please :)
23:36 MrCurious i need inspiration (which may be academic speak for an idea to copy)
23:37 rue_house MrCurious,
23:37 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/robot_family2.jpg
23:37 MrCurious i have seen your family
23:38 MrCurious why do so few of them have cameras
23:38 rue_house some of them are just that kinda bot
23:38 rue_house remote drive
23:39 MrCurious i see
23:39 rue_house shall i go thu robots not here?
23:39 rue_house there?
23:39 MrCurious you done much with opencv/simplecv?
23:39 rue_house no
23:39 MrCurious more into the building than the programming?
23:39 rue_house I'v not seen anything I can do with opencv
23:39 rue_house hmm, that couldbe true a bit
23:40 rue_house they all use relativly simple code
23:40 rue_house less buddy
23:40 MrCurious http://t.co/rqrUFM63h8
23:40 rue_house afk
23:40 MrCurious check out the presentation
23:41 MrCurious the big white arm needs to get mounted on the wheel chair motor robot
23:41 RifRaf damn this pid, i get soo close and then all bad again
23:41 RifRaf put bigger wheels on
23:41 MrCurious could you be stuck in a "local minima, and not seeing the true minima you want"
23:42 RifRaf yes sure could be
23:42 Curious just used words he hasnt understood in 20 y
23:43 RifRaf resetting ID and starting with P again
