00:00 shuggans the ones I have on the way for my drivers are logic level
00:00 RifRaf cool
00:00 shuggans I just have 2 of these laying around...
00:00 shuggans Just dont have the ones I NEED here >_<
00:01 shuggans damn canadia shipping...
00:01 RifRaf hah you could be waiting years
00:02 shuggans IM IN THE US
00:02 shuggans it should take like... 3 days more than a week MAX
00:02 shuggans and thats through POST OFFICE
00:02 shuggans >_<
00:02 RifRaf i know, but they are different up there
00:02 RifRaf took me about 4 months to get a package from rue once
00:02 shuggans what the poop man
00:03 shuggans I thought rue was in AU?
00:03 RifRaf nah
00:04 shuggans :P
00:05 shuggans crazyness.
00:05 shuggans hmmm
00:05 shuggans what can I get done without those...
00:05 shuggans basically foam taping these relays the board.
00:05 shuggans sweet!
00:05 shuggans :P
00:08 shuggans http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0051.jpg
00:08 shuggans Will that work for the diode on the relays?
00:08 shuggans just soldered between 86 and 85 - stripe towards 86?
00:09 RifRaf is hard to see, but i am not sure where it goes? is it across the small coil?
00:09 shuggans across the coil yes
00:10 RifRaf rue_bed i dunno how it goes, stripe to negative?
00:10 shuggans 86 is in, 85 is out.
00:14 RifRaf do you need a diode? http://kartikmohta.com/wiki/Tech/HBridge has a relay h-bridge example on it
00:14 shuggans yes... it's just to be safe
00:34 shuggans rif: Is vegemite delicious?
00:34 shuggans always wondered
00:34 shuggans :P
00:58 RifRaf am not a big fan but people at work eat it lots
00:58 theBear dunno about delicious... it's ok once in a while, but it kinda burns your mouth
01:02 shuggans really?
01:02 shuggans weird... :P
01:02 shuggans I tried to find in the states once... no luck :p
01:03 theBear some foreign places have marmite, that sposed to be basically the same thing...
01:04 shuggans IS IT JUST A SPREAD?
01:04 shuggans sry caps
01:10 theBear lol, yeah it is, real thick and black
01:10 theBear ever reduced vinegar a little too much so it's more paste than thick juice ? it's remotely like that
01:11 shuggans O_O
01:11 shuggans looks liek somethign you dont want to put in your mouth basically?
01:12 theBear heh i dunno, black paste , doesn't look that bad
01:12 theBear think i got some, can take the lid off and get a pic if ya want
01:13 shuggans lol kk
01:13 theBear but i meant the flavour
01:14 shuggans i c
02:32 GuShH shuggans: you worry about vegemite? look up caramel...
02:32 GuShH people here eat it all the time.
02:32 shuggans haha
02:32 GuShH it's our "peanut butter" (which to some looks like baby poop anyway)
02:32 shuggans caramel is delicious
02:32 GuShH these 3 are all different grades of baby poop
02:32 ShH
02:32 shuggans :P
02:33 GuShH theBear: do people take peanut butter in Australia?
02:33 shuggans pb is amazing too
02:33 theBear some people, not me
02:33 GuShH here its quite rare
02:34 shuggans :O
02:34 theBear horrible stuff, like many fooditems, it's a way to take a couple of delicious things and ruin them
02:34 GuShH Do you have 3000 kinds of chocolate bars like in the US?
02:34 theBear nah, we got i dunno, 100 including associated confectionary items
02:34 GuShH theBear: heh well if I had to choose I would go for dry salted or boiled peanuts + beer
02:34 GuShH mhhh
02:35 theBear me too
02:35 GuShH I'm not a sweets guy
02:35 theBear roasted nut carts started appearing sometime this century, they're kinda cool once in a while
02:35 shuggans Id take whiskey over beer :P
02:35 shuggans UNLESS
02:35 shuggans it's guiness.
02:35 theBear it was jim beam
02:35 GuShH I'm trying to stay away from whiskey
02:35 shuggans then it's a close call.
02:35 theBear oh, heh, close
02:39 shuggans So logic level fet: all I need to do is send a "high" from the AVR right?
02:39 shuggans to the gate?
02:40 theBear shuggans, yeah, a gate resistor doesn't hurt, if nothing else to protect the avr a bit if the fet dies
02:40 shuggans from gate to source right?
02:41 NightRavenXS guys, what's fet?
02:41 shuggans MOSFET
02:41 shuggans transistor
02:41 NightRavenXS oh
02:41 theBear from avr to gate
02:41 shuggans metal oxide semiconductor something something something
02:41 theBear gate to source would be pulldown
02:41 theBear field effect transistor
02:46 shuggans bear - do ou mean a diode or resistor?
02:47 theBear i mean a resistor, instead of a wire, from i/o pin to gate
02:47 shuggans How would this work....
02:47 shuggans don't resistors stop current?
02:49 NightRavenXS stop
02:49 NightRavenXS ?
02:49 NightRavenXS i dont think they stop the current
02:49 NightRavenXS maybe somewhat weaken
02:49 NightRavenXS but not completely stop
02:49 theBear resistors resist stuff.... but a fet gate is VERY high impedance, being that there's a tiny sheet of glass between the silicon and the gate, and v=r.i, so if r goes from say, a million, to a million and 100hundred, there is little difference, until the fet dies and you see maybe 12v at the gate
02:50 shuggans logic level fets need this too?
02:51 theBear it's a safety thing, doesn't matter what kind of fet it was if it dies, when it dies it's still likely to look like a wire
02:52 shuggans So the gate will still get the voltage it needs to open?
02:54 theBear yep, like i said, imagine the gate-source is a 1meg resistor, heck, even think of it like a voltage divider, you got from 5v into 1meg, to 100/1000100 volts into 1meg
02:54 GuShH can't vote comments on youtube anymore? wth
02:54 theBear err, 5-that value
02:54 theBear which is something like 4.9995 at a guesstimation
02:54 GuShH so you can't force a shitty comment to get hidden nomore...
02:55 theBear if you really don't wanna, skip the resistor, it's just a rule of thumb good idea
02:56 shuggans no no im way open to the suggestion
02:56 theBear also if you suspect the fet has died, measuring ANY dc across that resistor will confirm it (5/1000000 is such a small current that the voltage drop will always be too small to measure)
02:58 shuggans have some red purple bron gold resistors...
02:58 shuggans will these work? or too much/too little?
02:58 shuggans brown*
02:59 theBear umm, 270r methink, a little high, but shouldn't be an issue unless yer doing stupid-fast high current switching
03:00 shuggans motor drivers
03:00 theBear shouldn't be an issue... anyone else ?
03:01 theBear btw, i'm fairly colourblind, so as the years go on i always double check resistors with the meter incase i made a mistake, which is my excuse for forgetting colourcodes :)
03:02 shuggans :P
03:02 shuggans nice
03:07 shuggans http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0054.jpg <- look rediculous so far?
03:08 theBear wow ! how did yer get those giant wires to go thru a veroboard ?
03:08 shuggans (Just the relay coil circuit. left space for the N channel fets)
03:09 shuggans hahaha
03:09 shuggans twisting them into 3 smaller bunches...
03:09 shuggans and soldering them all together on bottom
03:10 shuggans http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0055.jpg
03:10 theBear hehe, good effort i spose.... depending on what else is going on, it's often easiest and sometimes more sensible to run the high power relay-switched-only wires directly to where they are going... for example if you are switching mains you don't really want or need that anywhere near the pcb
03:10 shuggans I see
03:10 shuggans See the spots for the fets on bottom?
03:10 theBear mmm neat, not bad..
03:11 NightRavenXS guys, i see you work with AVRs
03:11 shuggans whenever they freaking get here >_<
03:11 NightRavenXS what programmer do you use?
03:11 theBear the light patches ? i see those
03:11 theBear i use a rifraf stk-200-compat style buffered programmer mostly
03:11 theBear but i got parports
03:11 shuggans in the middle of the bord... 3 spaces between the gate wire, source wire and drain wire
03:12 shuggans Im arduino still
03:12 theBear ok
03:12 shuggans but Im a noob
03:12 shuggans :D
03:12 NightRavenXS shuggans, well, Arduino is for new users
03:13 NightRavenXS one of my friends in another channel advised using it before jumping to mcus
03:13 NightRavenXS but i am very enthusiastic about MCU programming itself
03:13 NightRavenXS not having an Arduino between me and my microcontroller
03:13 NightRavenXS though I must admit, that's difficult
03:14 theBear mmm, i always found arduino only makes a handful of things easier, but makes transitioning to bare-avr more confusing than just starting with it, just from the various people i've bumped into that use them
03:14 theBear most of us started this long before arduino was around, and we're just fine <grin>
03:14 shuggans :P
03:14 NightRavenXS theBear, interesting, so if I start with Arduino, I am addicted to it's ease? :D
03:15 shuggans Arduino board basically just breaks out the pins right? and adds a few extra things you could add yourself?
03:15 shuggans (breaks out pins of the atmel chip i shoudl say)
03:15 theBear NightRavenXS, not so much, i think you just get fooled by a lot of the libs and programming/ide setup glossing over some simple, but relatively important thing/concepts
03:16 NightRavenXS theBear, probably
03:16 theBear found out about boards.txt just an hour or two ago, most arduino users don't seem to know it exists, and it alone carries a LOT of important stuff
03:16 NightRavenXS but i must admit, once I read an Arduino tutorial I saw analogWrite() and found out about PWM
03:16 NightRavenXS about which i didnt know
03:17 NightRavenXS (P.S. yes, I am a noob)
03:17 theBear yeah, but i read the datasheet and saw maybe 4 lines of C and matching asm code under the timer/pwm chapter or section, and not only knew how to pwm, but understood everything about how the chip achieved that and a couple different ways of using/treating an internal timer
03:18 shuggans I started this arduino + electronics stuff (knew 0 about either - have been programming for years though) like what bear... 3 weeks ago?
03:18 shuggans maybe 4. I dont rememebr when I first popped in
03:18 shuggans :P
03:19 shuggans its been fu nthough!
03:19 shuggans fun though*
03:19 theBear i dunno, i been on these stupid pills about that long, i have no concept of time, or most other things
03:19 shuggans bwahaha
03:19 theBear pretty sure you haven't been here for years tho :)
03:19 shuggans true story
03:19 theBear i was there
03:20 shuggans xD
03:20 theBear so you only been soldering a few weeks ? you doing pretty good then
03:20 ShH is still happy about the dell-
03:20 GuShH (specially because I was an ass to a friend who calls himself a certified dell technician)
03:21 shuggans I knew how to solder from college, jsut havnt ever doen alot of it
03:21 GuShH theBear: when did you start soldering? I must've been 6 years old
03:22 shuggans my sodler knowledge was basically: coat a wire... coat another wire... shrink tubing... twist together.. .melt solder together...pull tubing over wire... heat tubing
03:22 GuShH and yes I was allowed to use an iron, knives, whatnot. I don't agree with how people raise their kids these days.
03:23 GuShH in fact I would make my own fireworks ... and chem-sets those days were actually useful.
03:23 theBear erm, i'd say about 8-10, but i had no idea how bad i was for a few more years, was taught by two adults who also didn't have any idea how bad they were :)
03:23 GuShH theBear: yeah my first joints were all cold and would fall apart
03:23 GuShH because the flux would burn out and I just didn't know any better
03:24 GuShH neither did my brother, I think to this day he can't solder.
03:24 shuggans I need to get a better soldering iron and a sodlering gun
03:24 GuShH although he seems to enjoy making fun of my cheap irons
03:24 GuShH shuggans: heh
03:24 shuggans Im using a 15-watt radio shack iron :P
03:24 GuShH I refuse to pay what they ask for cheap soldering stations here....
03:25 GuShH ah, I had a 40W and it's still working
03:25 GuShH are new cheapies so bad they don't last a month or are people essentially just monkeys?
03:25 theBear mmmm, being taught about flux and matching temps between both sides of a join i think is what let me start to become an awesome soldered
03:25 theBear solderer
03:25 GuShH Ok I'll agree with that, I've seen your work
03:25 theBear my backup these days is a $20 crappy weller from ratshack and it's just fine
03:25 GuShH And I don't tend to agree on things.
03:26 theBear it's probly done 50hours over the last 6 or 8 years
03:26 GuShH Oh so you never forgot it turned on?
03:26 GuShH I've done that twice.
03:26 theBear don't think so... i seen too many cheap irons with melted handles
03:26 GuShH lol
03:27 shuggans I left this thing on for a whole day on accident once...
03:27 GuShH what the heck
03:27 GuShH "pc build race 2013"
03:27 shuggans still workign liek a champ though :P
03:27 GuShH THEY RACE BUILDING PCS?
03:28 GuShH well... surely they aren't hurting anyone by doing that
03:28 GuShH this world never ceases to amaze me
03:29 shuggans anyone know where to find 1 inch female female threaded standoffs?
03:29 GuShH China
03:29 shuggans :P
03:30 GuShH this coffee tastes funny
03:30 theBear normally those are just straight thru threaded standoffs, and anywhere like farnell or mouser or rs should have them
03:30 ShH stares at the
03:30 GuShH shuggans: first hit http://www.goodluckbuy.com/brass-hex-stand-off-pillars-female-to-female-5mm-m3-100-pack.html
03:30 GuShH right diameter?
03:31 shuggans I need 1 inch
03:31 GuShH that's with shipping included
03:31 theBear what ? i very rarely spike my own coffee, letalone other mens :)
03:31 GuShH shuggans: METRIC DAMMIT
03:31 shuggans ugh
03:31 shuggans about 2 CM
03:31 GuShH MEEETRRRIIIIICCCCcc
03:31 ShH turns
03:31 theBear closer to 25mm
03:32 GuShH M3, M4, M5... I'm OK with that, but "1 inch stand-off" what's that!
03:32 GuShH I'm afraid to search for "female to female" in case I get sex toys as a result
03:32 GuShH oh, neat http://www.goodluckbuy.com/1-4-to-3-8-female-threaded-tripod-screw-adapterconverter-nut-for-flash-mount-holder.html
03:33 GuShH they have things I didn't know I needed
03:33 GuShH I see "adapter" with different thread sizes but nothing else
03:34 GuShH if you had some of these http://www.goodluckbuy.com/3x65mm-to-3x67mm-optional-screw-nut-connector-100-pcs.html you could cut the male end out and drill the center bit
03:34 GuShH just a thought, would work on a pinch
03:34 shuggans This has me inspired: http://www.goodluckbuy.com/wff-550sh-motor-18vdc-22000-rpm-tooth-brush-diy-motor.html <- I want to make an 18 volt electric tooth brush...
03:34 GuShH problem with ordering from these places is that it takes weeks to get there
03:34 GuShH Hahaha
03:34 GuShH diy toothbrush
03:34 ShH facep
03:34 shuggans xD
03:34 GuShH I tend to get depressed with these sites
03:35 GuShH too much crap I'd like to order but I can't
03:35 GuShH theBear: not spiked, but it's off...
03:35 GuShH I'll drink it all anyway, it has to be worse than mcdonalds for me not to drink a coffee.
03:36 theBear well, i didn't make yer milk go bad
03:36 GuShH lol
03:36 theBear i promise
03:36 GuShH milk rarely goes bad in my fridge
03:36 GuShH I don't give it time
03:37 GuShH milkshakes with fruits and sometimes baking a cake, or hot chocolate milk...
03:37 theBear indeed, i got a 3liter in there right now, well within date and not much left
03:37 GuShH although the chocolate bars they sell for that specific purpose seems to be getting worse and worse as time goes by, there's less chocolate in those than there is in aspirins.
03:38 theBear who needs a 2krpm toothbrush anyway ?
03:38 GuShH someone in a hurry
03:38 GuShH "oh I gotta get going RIGHT NOW but I forgot to brush my teeth... <F1 fires up> Brrrrraaaaaammmm!!"
03:38 GuShH dude shows up to work with no teeth.
03:39 shuggans bwahaha
03:39 shuggans We could make it use the dewalt 18v batteries...
03:39 shuggans and send the prototype in to dewalt...
03:39 shuggans get big $
03:39 shuggans and they could include it with their drill/circular saw sets....
03:40 shuggans "Complimentary toothbrush with purchase..."
03:40 GuShH they've made radios in the past, why not?
03:40 GuShH but you know what the next logical step would be....
03:41 GuShH hmmm http://www.goodluckbuy.com/phoenix-blocks-connector-2pin-malefemale-20-pack.html
03:41 GuShH 2 pin costs 3.61 for 20... that's good, but 3 pin costs 6.89 for 20?
03:41 theBear heh dewalt radio blows my mind.... pure genius putting that brandname and some plastic around $10 of electronics and convincing people to buy it
03:41 GuShH http://www.goodluckbuy.com/phoenix-blocks-connector-3pin-malefemale-20-pack.html
03:41 theBear phoenix connectors are pretty decent, as far as connectors go
03:41 shuggans "Billy Mays here with another fantastic product.... Are you building a house? Maybe jsut ADDING to your house? Ohhh NOOO!!! You jsut ralized you didnt brush your teeth... Don't worry bout that.. using the SAME battery included with your dewalt 18v drill... just pop it outa the drill.. into the tooth brush... and go to town on those crowns..."
03:42 GuShH isn't mays dead?
03:42 GuShH overdose, cocaine, I think.
03:42 shuggans True Story
03:43 GuShH southpark isn't fooling around with him anymore :(
03:43 GuShH http://www.goodluckbuy.com/displayport-male-to-vga-female-adapter-cable-26cm-.html wtf... that's not right
03:43 GuShH it shouldn't cost more than 8 bucks
03:44 GuShH not only macs use displayport, don't make me pay mac-fool prices on them!
03:44 theBear it fits in a mac, course it's expensive
03:44 theBear and what else uses them ?
03:44 GuShH thinkpads
03:44 shuggans thinkcentres
03:44 theBear heh, yeah, they're as overpriced as macs
03:44 GuShH and something else surely ought to use them
03:44 GuShH theBear: are they? I'm probably getting one today
03:44 shuggans eyefinity cards
03:44 theBear we already got dvi AND hdmi, why we need another one ?
03:45 GuShH 'cos we can
03:45 GuShH actually it has vga and displayport
03:45 shuggans hdmi came from TV ppl
03:45 shuggans Displayport from PC people
03:45 shuggans only other thing I know
03:45 GuShH I don't own anything with displayport currently.
03:46 shuggans Is it's a pain in the ass
03:46 theBear pfft, i only just got my first dvi cable a few months ago, i aint ready for more new things i can't plug into
03:46 GuShH nor firewire
03:46 GuShH heh but they make adapters!
03:46 theBear had to borrow a laptop to confirm the connector on my 'new' graphics card was hdmi
03:46 GuShH neither of my LCDs here has hdmi...
03:46 GuShH ok to be fair they do, but it's not populated
03:46 GuShH because.... market segmentation.
03:47 theBear actually i noticed the broken lcdtv i had in the spare room for a couple years has hdmi yesterday
03:47 GuShH (I've recapped both already, they have the footprints and it's all there, the controller is the same)
03:47 GuShH broken? the glass?
03:47 GuShH I had a massive argument with a friend the other day with regard to eyefinity
03:47 shuggans MFer.... where the hell is my ruler...
03:47 shuggans >_<
03:47 GuShH his words, not mine... "that's nigga shit"
03:48 Jak_o_Shadows I wish HDMI cables weren't overpriced pieces of junk.
03:48 GuShH he argued the bezels would make it useless and he wouldn't accept a 6 screen setup with eyefinity even if it was for free
03:48 GuShH I argued you can learn to ignore them or otherwise get 6 expensive projectors and a big wall.
03:48 theBear nah, first time i looked at it yesterday, pretty sure the outrageous fluro backlight is dead.. it's about 20 'tubes' moulded into one giant 34" screensize panel with conductive 'tape' strips down each end for power
03:48 shuggans monoprice.com
03:48 GuShH he's still mad at the fact that this technology is readily available to the public, I guess.
03:48 shuggans hdmi cables
03:48 shuggans cheaaaap
03:48 GuShH he doesn't get it.
03:49 GuShH theBear: a few may be tired or dead, not all of them
03:49 GuShH theBear: see if the controller can work in split mode
03:49 theBear transformers look good, drive signals look good, but not even a flicker at powerup, and i resoldered a connector and fiddled the insulation while i had it apart
03:49 Jak_o_Shadows shuggans: OH GOD, IMPERIAL UNITS
03:49 GuShH that is, when one module reports failure, it turns that module off but leaves the other on
03:49 theBear split how ? there are only 2 wires, like i said, stupid giant moulded panel
03:49 GuShH so you can easily find out the culprit
03:49 shuggans xD
03:50 GuShH theBear: hmm... that doesn't sound right
03:50 ShH ponders with his b
03:50 GuShH I've been told I should shave ASAP.
03:50 Jak_o_Shadows Also, i'm looking at 32ft (10m) to 50ft (15m)
03:51 GuShH split is when the backlight is separated into two big modules
03:51 GuShH when one fails, neither works.
03:51 theBear exactly, but i took the whole damned thing down to its component pieces... i was shocked, it's literally a 34" moulded set of fluros
03:51 theBear i know what split is, i've fixed lots of monitors
03:51 GuShH daum
03:51 GuShH I'm mentioning you can often run them in separate mode to figure out which side is bad
03:52 GuShH Which is something not everyone knows because they never read the entire datasheet :p
03:52 GuShH (It's often a solder bridge or a 0R bridge)
03:52 theBear got a power-cycling 15" lcd off the curb yesterday, kinda tempted to hookup the tubes and see what i see... if they at least flicker i can be 99% sure it's a tube problem and not inverter
03:52 GuShH shuggans: ok so this guy argues he would rather have a 42 inch LCD than 6 high quality LCDs in eyefinity
03:52 GuShH I couldn't insult him enough.
03:53 shuggans O_O
03:53 theBear heh, i bet you tried tho :)
03:53 GuShH he would rather have the crappy pixel density on that cheapie 42 (1080p)
03:53 shuggans O_O
03:53 GuShH than a 6 screen setup... because of the bezels.
03:53 theBear and that's what i like about you, the never say die even in the face of adversity attitude :)
03:53 GuShH he also argued "my 42" lcd is 3d"
03:53 GuShH ....
03:54 shuggans I SUPPOSE to each his own...
03:54 GuShH NO.
03:54 shuggans if you arent gaming, eyefinity is a waste of $
03:54 GuShH You can't say you wouldn't accept it even if it was a gift
03:54 shuggans but if you ARE
03:54 GuShH That's just being stupid.
03:54 GuShH you don't have to use it for gaming only
03:54 shuggans it's *amaaaazing*
03:55 eBear is *amaaaaaaaz
03:55 GuShH Oh he also argued "this kind of setup exists since the early 1980s"...
03:55 Jak_o_Shadows Looks like a VGA cable is more practical. Is there any issues with cable length with VGA cables?
03:55 GuShH yeah right like you could have that setup at home with a gpu
03:55 theBear yeah, since the early 80s, is his 42" lcd a 32" crt ?
03:55 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: yes, massive loss
03:55 theBear not to mention how amazing composite output cga cards were
03:55 Jak_o_Shadows GuShH: 15m? I think i've seen that length before and it worked fine.
03:56 GuShH theBear: heh, you could not have 6 screens on the same box, not at home. you could barely have one to begin with.
03:56 shuggans 15m should be fine
03:56 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: I have a 3 meter vga cable with no ferrites that gives you ghosting
03:56 theBear vga cables are basically 5*75r coax
03:56 GuShH at 15M with no shielding and no filtering it would look like my friend's 42" LCD up close
03:56 GuShH theBear: not for the chinese they aren't
03:57 GuShH just like cheap usb cables are not.
03:57 shuggans you can run vga over CAT5
03:57 shuggans if you need to
03:57 Jak_o_Shadows So basically, buy a nice cable, or make my own nice cable
03:57 theBear yeah, but without transformers it's kinda shitty
03:57 shuggans expensive tho
03:57 GuShH the biggest problem is voltage drop, modern screens will compensate at the expense of image quality
03:58 GuShH whenever you amplify you'll introduce noise and other nasties, can't argue with that.
03:58 theBear at old work i made up a few 30 and 50meter 5*bnc cables that were regularly used to run unmodified vga, so long as all the grounds in the vga adapter/bncs were solid it was pretty decent at least up to 1024x768/60
03:58 theBear but lose a ground and you got HUGE ghosts on that colour, or lost sync
03:59 GuShH I noticed they run VGA at this big supermarket chain, they must have at least 30 LCDs and the lengths are massive... they look like crap.
03:59 theBear like, a couple inches on a 19" monitor huge
03:59 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, ATM i am running RCA, but that obviously has problems.
03:59 shuggans yep. INCHES GuShH
03:59 shuggans INCHES.
03:59 GuShH Am I the only one who dislikes RCA?
04:00 GuShH shuggans: many many feet worth
04:00 shuggans lol no
04:00 shuggans I disklike it as well.
04:00 GuShH oh crap I've gone non metric for a moment.
04:01 GuShH back to eyefinity... I'd get a setup like that if I could afford it, no doubt about it.
04:01 GuShH doesn't have to be for gaming.
04:01 GuShH I used to run 3 LCDs side to side, now I'm down to 2 since one went tits up
04:02 GuShH but obviously, separate (old) GPUs were used for each
04:02 GuShH couldn't even watch videos on the third one for instance
04:02 GuShH but that's not bad if you need a screen to put a help file on, or watch some code.
04:02 shuggans Long VGA lengths: http://www.ebay.com/itm/StarTech-com-Point-to-Point-VGA-Video-Extender-Over-Cat-5-Kit-ST121UTPEP-NEW-/290848964770?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item43b7f300a2
04:03 GuShH shuggans: and they look like shiet
04:03 theBear yeah, with a decent cat5 adapter vga can easily go a couple hundred meters with no noticable problems, dunno if that one is decent tho
04:03 GuShH you just don't notice because when they use these it's often on a screen far away from you
04:03 shuggans the startech stuff isnt too bad
04:03 Jak_o_Shadows I could buy a hdmi cable with the proper length for that price though.
04:03 shuggans Lol
04:03 shuggans Do that
04:03 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: what is this for? how long do you have to go?
04:04 GuShH he doesn't want to spend that much I guess
04:04 theBear i did notice 'cos i was sometimes responsible for quality, and other times just wanted to see how monkeylike everyone else in town is, and i'd have maybe a 6meter wide projector screen i could walk up to for observation
04:04 GuShH I wouldn't spend that much on a cable either...
04:04 GuShH monstercable...
04:04 ShH twit
04:04 shuggans with hdmi: anything > 50 ft you need the HDMI version of what I posted...
04:04 Jak_o_Shadows GuShH: Get my computer onto the TV, 1920x1080 resolution, preferably under $25
04:04 eBear picks up computer and places o
04:04 GuShH can't use remote admin over wifi?
04:05 GuShH "it's not the same, it's too slow, go to hell!"
04:05 GuShH how about gigabit, wired?
04:05 theBear you know, in the lounge/projector room, i often use vnc on my phone with the screen set to work like a laptop touchpad, works nicelyt
04:05 GuShH :o
04:05 GuShH can't wait to try the multi-touchpad on that thinkpad
04:06 Jak_o_Shadows haha, this is for playing games on it. My computer screen is only 1280x1024, 19"
04:06 theBear i'm very fond of the multitouchpad on my little eee... dragging/clicking with different numbers of fingers can do so many different things
04:06 shuggans http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882241134
04:06 shuggans problem solved ^
04:06 GuShH lol
04:06 shuggans under $25
04:07 GuShH shuggans saves the day
04:07 theBear used an old laptop a few days ago for a short period, didn't even have corner-scrolling on the pad, my god it felt primitive and slow
04:07 shuggans :P
04:07 GuShH and 1 cent
04:07 Jak_o_Shadows lol, nice, ty.
04:07 GuShH theBear: lol the corner scroll on mine didn't work
04:07 GuShH the previous monkey, I mean owner trashed it.
04:07 GuShH (it wasn't the ribbon)
04:07 Jak_o_Shadows My netbook, under windows, has lousy multi-touch on it's touchpad. The scroll bar thing didn't work, it wanted you to scroll with two fingers.
04:08 GuShH hmmm http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882241034
04:09 GuShH why do they even bother using colours?
04:09 shuggans I thought he needed 15m?
04:09 GuShH it's not like you stare at the connectors all the time
04:09 GuShH shuggans: IM MAKING A POINT DAMMIT
04:09 shuggans NO
04:09 shuggans :P
04:09 shuggans it is a good point.
04:09 theBear i dunno, i always feel a bit special using gigabyte cables cos of the colours
04:09 shuggans But to be fair...
04:09 GuShH let's colour-code so idiots don't try to hook it up to mains.
04:09 shuggans AT LEAST once a week...
04:09 shuggans I stare at my aweome red HDMI connectors
04:10 shuggans in the back of my monitors.
04:10 GuShH I remember when PCs began to colour code serial, vga, audio...
04:10 GuShH mice/kb
04:10 Jak_o_Shadows I don't mind that so much.
04:10 GuShH it all used to be BLACK before
04:10 Jak_o_Shadows Handy, especially for trying to help somebody.
04:10 shuggans yep
04:10 GuShH "put the green thang on da green thang"
04:10 GuShH dude grabs the red thing, 'cos hes color blind
04:10 GuShH "won't fit"
04:10 shuggans "which port....?" "The blue port... you know.. the one the cable fits on and is shaped like..."
04:11 GuShH you are making people more and more stupid by doing this.
04:11 shuggans like arduino?
04:11 GuShH it seems people don't want to learn, in general... they don't care, about ANYTHING.
04:11 NightRavenXS shuggans, haha good one :D
04:11 shuggans :P
04:11 theBear fortunately i aint good at seeing colours, and tehrefore hopeless at remembering them, so i guess i'm just as stupid as before :)
04:11 NightRavenXS GuShH, as long as everything works for them
04:11 GuShH shuggans: http://gushh.net/tmp/arduinoshield.png
04:11 GuShH that's for you too NightRavenXS.
04:12 shuggans bwahaha
04:12 GuShH should've gone with thicker traces
04:12 NightRavenXS rofl
04:12 NightRavenXS get a life
04:12 theBear quite entertaining when you tell someone to grab the green bucket and notice that you've been thinking of it in the wrong colour for the last several years
04:12 GuShH NightRavenXS: you get a life!
04:12 ghtRavenXS sacrificed one for knowledge of program
04:12 GuShH arduinian!
04:12 ShH throws an AVR at NightRavenXS -- use this ins
04:13 GuShH you don't need an overpriced wannabe of a devboard to use an AVR sir.
04:13 theBear don't worry, he knows, we discussed it earlier
04:13 GuShH let alone a shield for an LED.
04:13 NightRavenXS hehe
04:13 shuggans http://dipmicro.com/store/BTE-RCBDUE
04:14 NightRavenXS i will redirect my Arduino fan friend here
04:14 shuggans seems priced well to me...
04:14 theBear don't do that :(\
04:14 NightRavenXS theBear, just to convince him AVR is better
04:14 GuShH shuggans: compared to alternatives it's not
04:14 GuShH NightRavenXS: you still don't get it
04:14 theBear convince him first, then we talk to him
04:14 GuShH Ok time to go back to some woodworking projects, and that has nothing to do with pr0n.
04:14 shuggans I know AVR is better
04:15 GuShH arduinos are avrs
04:15 GuShH with a shitty bulky library on top
04:15 theBear avr is just arduino without the bullshit and advertising attached
04:15 shuggans but you guys got me on arduino from the start
04:15 shuggans (I knowwwww)
04:15 GuShH well he said it better than me.
04:15 NightRavenXS GuShH, yes yes i know
04:15 GuShH shuggans: I must've been away at the time
04:15 NightRavenXS i forgot to mention Avr STANDALONE
04:15 shuggans bc I was going to buy a sabertooth brand motor driver for my tank
04:15 GuShH that would not have happened with me around!
04:15 GuShH but here's the deal
04:15 shuggans and now ive learned arduino programming... + building motor drivers
04:15 GuShH you are either in from a practical point of view, where you just want to get X done without caring about how it works...
04:16 GuShH or you go deep and learn all about it, get X done and be ready for Y and Z without further due.
04:16 shuggans Eh
04:16 shuggans Im 3/4ths into that
04:16 GuShH (and without spending money on crappy "shields")
04:16 NightRavenXS it's like blue pill/red pill
04:16 GuShH of an inch?
04:16 NightRavenXS you either wake up and forget everything
04:16 NightRavenXS or dive deeper
04:16 shuggans xD
04:16 NightRavenXS :D
04:16 GuShH both pills are roofies dude.
04:16 GuShH morpheus wants yo ass.
04:16 shuggans I want to bnuild my damn tank man!'
04:17 theBear ooh, i'll take both then
04:17 GuShH LOL
04:17 NightRavenXS shuggans, toy tank?
04:17 NightRavenXS cool
04:17 shuggans no
04:17 theBear damn, i could go a roofie right now.. haven't seen one for years
04:17 GuShH In theBear's matrix, he just takes both and ODs.
04:17 shuggans 400 lbs steel tank
04:17 shuggans was going use a sabertooth 2x60
04:17 theBear being i'm awesome, and cursed with memory, i don't mind those little suckers, sure don't fall asleep or forget or get a sore bum
04:17 shuggans (driver board by dimension engineering, $200)
04:18 shuggans but they convinced me to use a micro controller + build my own driver board
04:18 GuShH why is it called a roofie if it leaves you on the floor?
04:18 shuggans I knew NOTHING about electronics
04:18 shuggans or circuits
04:18 shuggans or anything
04:18 theBear cos roofie is a lot like the chemical name
04:18 shuggans Gotta start somewhere...
04:18 shuggans floorie?
04:18 GuShH shuggans: wawawawa arduinocopter
04:18 theBear they call em roey round they parts
04:19 theBear and junkies internationally call them jellies
04:19 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: heh, 60A motor controller is pretty ambitious for a first project, there's a _lot_ of stuff you have to have an intuitive understanding of to even comprehend half the issues that must be resolved for it to not catch fire
04:19 shuggans I love me some jelly bean.
04:19 GuShH (imagine a massive tupperware full of shitty boards hooked up to each other, costing about 30.000 in total and barely able to lift itself... that's an arduinocopter)
04:19 theBear lol
04:19 shuggans I dont use shields lol
04:19 theBear aka roflcopter
04:19 shuggans you assume... and make an ass out of u m e
04:20 GuShH I'ma go medieval on yo arduino
04:20 shuggans :D
04:20 GuShH tarantino approves
04:20 theBear thank god !
04:20 theBear i like to imagine the real tarantino is like the brother in dusk till dawn
04:21 GuShH lol
04:21 shuggans Triffid_Hunter -> http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0049.jpg
04:22 GuShH he should be doing more than cameos these days
04:22 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: ah, you're going single ended mosfet switch with reversing relay?
04:22 shuggans yes
04:23 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: it's a good way to start, pick nice mosfets and remember shottky diodes to protect it :)
04:23 shuggans with 75 A mosfet relays ( I know the pins can only handle about 20, y theres 3...) and 50A relays
04:23 theBear hmmm, shottky for fastness ?
04:23 shuggans mosfets* not relays
04:23 shuggans lol
04:23 shuggans was typing two things at once
04:23 GuShH brainfart
04:24 Triffid_Hunter theBear: yeah precisely
04:24 eBear dislikes that
04:24 shuggans I have the original relays that came with the power chair the motors are from
04:24 GuShH theBear: why?
04:24 theBear cool, that's my something new for today
04:24 GuShH reminds you of flyback?
04:24 theBear i dunno, it just sounds, inelegant
04:24 shuggans and...
04:24 GuShH haha
04:24 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: fwiw, the mosfet's Ids(max) rating is pretty useless, need to work it out with your finite heatsink in mind
04:24 theBear unfortunately there is no good replacement, i almost used it myself the other day
04:25 GuShH My good sir I've just had a brain toot!
04:25 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: Rds(on) is a far more interesting figure, specifically Rds(on)@Vgs=4.5v if you intend to drive it direct from a microcontroller
04:25 shuggans http://www.techno-star.biz/transistors/huf76137p.pdf <- mosfets
04:25 theBear heh, that just doesn't convey the right feeling, toot is too happy and sound related
04:26 theBear maybe something 'as the kids would say' like (epic)neuronfail
04:26 shuggans and going to mount them against a heatsink + fan cool the thing
04:26 GuShH theBear: "my frontal cortex just issued a man salute"
04:27 theBear lol, a man salute sounds like what those with no self control give to pretty ladies in bikinis
04:27 GuShH o.o
04:27 shuggans xD
04:27 shuggans m(_._)m
04:27 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: 14mR is decent
04:28 GuShH what if you were to say your neurons backfired?
04:28 theBear hmm, i like the image it brings to mind
04:28 GuShH of course that would often involve an ignition source close to your blower.
04:28 shuggans Triffid_Hunter: http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0054.jpg
04:28 theBear maybe something about vaporlock
04:29 shuggans that's the relay circuit... waiting on the mosfets for it + to do the motor driver circuit
04:29 theBear my ignition source is never far from head
04:29 GuShH look, lots of pencil drawings underneath!
04:29 theBear pencils are cool, but it's blowing my mind how i find a broken off pencil lead on this desk last week
04:30 GuShH maybe it fell off your nose
04:30 theBear what is my nose doing with pencils i don't know about ?
04:30 GuShH like homer's crayon
04:32 GuShH reference not found?
04:32 shuggans what is: POWER SCHOTTKY RECTIFIER?
04:32 GuShH high power diode meant for rectification usually in higher frequencies
04:32 theBear fast diode
04:32 GuShH I like mine better, pft.
04:32 theBear i shoulda said big fast diode :)
04:32 GuShH just replace in for on
04:33 theBear that woulda been almost word for word definition of what he said :)
04:33 GuShH mhh that's a big diode you've got down there, psu!
04:33 GuShH "wait until you look at my filter caps"
04:33 GuShH pow chika pow paw
04:33 theBear heh, i'm not quite sure why that's funny, but that's funny right htere
04:34 eBear makes seinfeld no
04:34 theBear am i doing it right ?
04:34 GuShH you need to crank up the jew
04:34 theBear should i go to an old person party at the penthouse next to mums new flat ?
04:34 GuShH seinfeld is a solid 9 in jewness
04:34 GuShH old person party... what's that?
04:35 theBear heh, he does have all the stereotypicals going on
04:35 NightRavenXS speaking of diodes
04:35 GuShH larry david is a solid 10
04:35 NightRavenXS do you guys use color changing LEDs?
04:35 theBear you know, people taht wear shirts with buttons and long sleeves casually, and err, slacks and shoes you can't run in
04:35 GuShH it's not a dial for you to turn up to 11, bad things happen if you do that.
04:35 GuShH NightRavenXS: nope we don't build whore-house decorations
04:36 theBear slacks mean big boy pants that aren't jeans right ?
04:36 GuShH and if we did, we would go to great lengths.
04:36 GuShH for instance an entire CMOS board just to fade the LEDs, that's right seprate emitters.
04:36 theBear i've done various non-customer business with a few whorehouses over the years, but never lighting that i can recall
04:36 shuggans off to bed - later dudes
04:36 GuShH theBear: I don't know, I'm not allowed to wear big boys pants yet.
04:37 theBear heh
04:37 theBear heh, shugnite, i mean nightshug
04:38 shuggans :P
04:38 ShH shrugs at shug
04:38 GuShH don't expect a kiss from me
04:38 GuShH you'll have nightmares about this all, trust me.
04:43 GuShH bugger, the switch on my desk lamp just died...
04:43 GuShH and it's part of the enclosure...
04:44 theBear footswitch time
04:50 GuShH stupid custom switches.
04:50 GuShH it's a no-nonsense lamp but the switch is PURE NONSENSE
04:50 theBear meh, if you can get a something down the side take it apart and rebuildify it
04:50 GuShH nothing I've ever seen fits there
04:50 GuShH trying to take the old switch out, still.
04:51 GuShH (without causing damage)
04:51 GuShH turns out you need a desklamp to fix a desklamp
04:51 theBear hehe
04:54 GuShH meh, switch is testing fine... let's see now
04:55 theBear heh, if it's not the switch it must be the fuse.... that's what customers are always telling me
04:55 GuShH interesting setup... I think the screw terminal was loose
05:07 GuShH the hell... this doesn't make sense.
05:08 GuShH continuity is ok now, put on an incan (58 ohms or so) checks out fine, I connect it, no light. some part is either high impedance or there's something wrong with the outlet.
05:09 GuShH yep outlet is bust
05:09 theBear bummer
05:10 GuShH I need to redo the wiring in this house... everything, but that costs $$
05:41 GuShH this is shaping up to be a bad day.... now one of the PSUs I have wouldn't start up, turned out to be the cable
05:41 ShH s
05:42 GuShH I'm main's bitch today, clearly.
07:08 sw0rdfish ...........................................
07:25 GuShH sw0rdfish: ..............................................................................
07:25 GuShH mines longer than yours.
07:26 sw0rdfish lol

11:56 rue_shop3 wow
11:56 rue_shop3 with the computer going, the robot only draws 60ma
11:57 NightRavenXS rue_shop3, what does it do?
11:57 rue_shop3 wifi ROV
11:57 NightRavenXS god damn it, how many accounts do you have?
11:57 rue_shop3 sssh...
11:57 rue_shop3 anyhow
11:57 NightRavenXS shop2, 3, house, bed :D
11:57 rue_shop3 this ups the runtime more than I thought
11:57 rue_shop3 60mA from 7.2Ah batteries is... LOTS of runtime
11:59 rue_shop3 both motors going ups it to 100mA
11:59 rue_shop3 wow, this thing will run forever
12:00 rue_shop3 the wonders of a 48V suply
12:00 rue_shop3 oops this makes sense, I had a jumper past the meter
12:00 rue_shop3 lets try those readings again
12:00 NightRavenXS is that a battery?
12:00 NightRavenXS what can be a 48V?
12:01 rue_shop3 ok 600mA for the computer running
12:01 rue_shop3 1.9A with the motors going
12:01 rue_shop3 they are 108V motors
12:01 rue_shop3 I have a switching power supply to generate the 12V the computer and wifi router run on
12:02 NightRavenXS rue_shop3, are the motors big?
12:04 rue_shop3 no
12:04 rue_shop3 check it out
12:04 rue_shop3 !assist robots/buddy_II/
12:04 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/buddy_II/

12:05 rue_shop3 there is the main frame construction
12:05 NightRavenXS rue_shop3, may I ask a somewhat offtopic question?
12:05 rue_shop3 if you see the dir, you can look at the updated photos
12:05 rue_shop3 it dosn't have to dow ith Mechanical Electrical Programming and Psychology?
12:06 Steffanx That thing is huge :)
12:06 NightRavenXS robotics members get a personal folder on that site?
12:06 rue_shop3 no, mowerbot2 isn't even huge
12:06 rue_shop3 the 12' mecha will be huge
12:06 rue_shop3 no, that my site
12:07 rue_shop3 we used to have a wiki, it got used as much as a pop machine in a heathfood store
12:07 NightRavenXS haha
12:07 NightRavenXS so that's why you don't
12:09 rue_shop3 I found it a few years ago
12:10 Steffanx Just curious. Is this metal casting using a microwave guy still here?
12:11 rue_shop3 I dont even remember who that was
12:11 rue_shop3 your not going to try it are you?
12:11 rue_shop3 find an old bbq and modify it
12:11 Steffanx Noo no way
12:12 rue_shop3 jyou can do it in a day for less than $60
12:12 rue_shop3 unlike the microwave thing
12:12 Steffanx Was just wondering if he ever succeeded
12:13 rue_shop3 he didn't
12:14 rue_shop3 but I got this free energy machine working, its made out of a hair clip, a fridge magnet and 6" or wire
12:14 rue_shop3 it generates enough power for a whole city
12:14 rue_shop3 you wanna build that?
12:16 Steffanx Yeah, who doesn't want to build something like that?
12:56 Tom_itx so rue_shop3, if i ever scrap the washer should i keep the motor and control unit?
12:57 Tom_itx can the control unit be hacked?
12:57 Tom_itx looks like it's + gnd and signal
12:57 Tom_itx might make a good spindle motor for something

13:23 sw0rdfish .............
13:24 NightRavenXS sw0rdfish, ?
13:24 sw0rdfish hi NightRavenXS
13:24 NightRavenXS hello
13:24 tobbor Hello NightRavenXS
13:24 NightRavenXS hi tobbor
13:25 RifRaf really want to get this gait designer working this morn, anyone can help me try debug it?
13:28 ace4016 gait designer?
13:32 RifRaf ace4016 http://webbot.org.uk/WebbotLibDocs/39789.html
13:33 RifRaf and example http://webbot.org.uk/iPoint/44.page
13:34 RifRaf have some code that compiles and can connect from pc, but no servo movement
13:35 NightRavenXS hmm seems cool
13:37 RifRaf tep rather cool, lets you control the avr and servos from pc to test gaits, then output the gaits to feed to to the avr for running stand alone
13:38 ace4016 interesting
13:42 RifRaf will be more interesting when it works
13:42 NightRavenXS haha
13:42 RifRaf doing a servo test with other code to make sure all hardware works
13:42 NightRavenXS someone made something like that with PYthon
13:42 NightRavenXS *Python
13:46 RifRaf yep servos and comms at 115200 fine with basic test code, so hardware is ok]
13:50 RifRaf have basic hexapod hooked up, 3 servos, 3 sets of legs
13:51 RifRaf the original aluminium tiptoes from way back
13:53 RifRaf no one have any ideas?
13:58 RifRaf code that compiles and connects to pc application, but no servos move or are energised http://pastebin.com/zaC5RHj1
14:06 RifRaf ok so this might just be for hardware pwm, servoPWMInit(&bank1); and I need software
15:12 Rif can someone please give me a clue on the rrors highlighted in this code, seems like servosInit does not work.. http://pastebin.com/7TwmfnQf
15:57 rue_house is there a problem?
15:57 rue_house RifRaf, you need to learn C
16:01 rue_house RifRaf, can you find the function called servosInit ?
16:08 rue_house I was measuring up a small air-muscle today
16:08 rue_house it came out around 0.3kg force/psi of air pressure
16:14 RifRaf rue am getting somewhere slowly
16:14 NightRavenXS guys, a noob needs help
16:15 RifRaf just need to add in one line at a time time i find the issue now
16:15 NightRavenXS if microcontrollers only work with 0 or 5V, how do i pass 9V from a battery to motor?
16:15 RifRaf separate supply
16:15 RifRaf common ground
16:19 NightRavenXS RifRaf, is that done with code?
16:19 NightRavenXS or i must build the circuit appropriately?
16:20 RifRaf yee fucking ha, i did it :)
16:20 RifRaf can use gait desinger now, w00t!
16:20 RifRaf NightRavenXS the circiut
16:21 fRaf does a happy d
16:21 ghtRavenXS congratulates Rif
16:22 RifRaf http://pastebin.com/3sLSctWb in line 4, i have to change servo to _servo_ etc
16:22 RifRaf and i can now drive the hexapod from me pc, work out good gaits then feed them into avr
16:28 RifRaf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1RKkNn50eo
16:28 NightRavenXS RifRaf, one more question please, about that motor, is a motor driver absolutely necessary?
16:28 RifRaf yes
16:28 RifRaf never hook up a motor direct to your avr
16:28 NightRavenXS and they dont come with motors
16:29 RifRaf nope, but they are easiely sourced for small motors
16:29 NightRavenXS ugh, why does embedded development require so many components
16:33 Steffanx because it's so/has to be flexible NightRavenXS :)
16:33 NightRavenXS hmm I see your point
16:34 RifRaf rue_house, this is soo cool
16:35 Steffanx To make it even more complicated. Not all microcontrollers 'work with' 5V. Some with 3.3V or even less NightRavenXS
16:36 NightRavenXS ah well, majority works with 5V
16:36 NightRavenXS i need to make a huge-a** list before carrying my lazy a** to the store :\
16:36 Steffanx Wouldn't be so sure about that. 3.3V is taking over
16:37 NightRavenXS oh
16:37 NightRavenXS interesting, thanks for the info Steffanx
16:38 Steffanx Modern microcontrollers often use 3.3V. Some of them have pins that are so called '5V tolarant'. So you can use them in 5V systems, but you have to power the microcontroller with for example 3.3V
16:47 RifRaf 6 servos controlled from pc without jitter
16:48 Steffanx parellel port ? :)
16:48 Steffanx *a
16:49 Steffanx or did you take rue's idea and went with IDE ? :)
16:49 RifRaf usb to serial convertor
16:51 Steffanx So i guess you actually use a microcontroller to control the servos?
16:51 RifRaf me avr has a max232 on board to 9 pin serial, and connectors for 6 servos, so rught now i am so happy because the board is doing finally what i made it to do
16:51 RifRaf yes atmega168
17:00 RifRaf well in about 10 minutes that included learning the program a bit have got the hexapod walking :)
17:00 RifRaf so much more fun than learning to code
17:02 RifRaf Tom_itx any luck with the lcd?
17:36 RifRaf what do i need to make a DC motor and driver equivanent to a servo?
17:36 RifRaf just a pot for rotational feedback?
17:47 RifRaf or could i use these hp motors that have the quad encoders on them as servos?
17:49 zhanx cool
17:51 Tom_itx any kind of feedback
17:51 RifRaf ok well i know the hp and quad encoders work
17:51 Tom_itx you'd have to keep track of the count and where '0' would be
17:52 Tom_itx whereas on a pot you could measure it's value
17:52 RifRaf so just change 2 servo outputs to do the pwm?
17:52 RifRaf Tom_itx did you see that i got it going
17:52 Tom_itx nope just finished repairing a washer
17:52 RifRaf little critter walking on me desk now
17:53 RifRaf got the gait designer code working on it mega168, controlling 6 servos and creating gaits
17:53 RifRaf dynamically
17:54 RifRaf can't wait to get an arm hooked up now
17:54 RifRaf with dc servos
17:54 Tom_itx i'm gonna focus on my lcd this evening
17:54 RifRaf since the joints will have less than 200° movement pots on the joint may be the better feedback
17:54 Tom_itx it must init slightly different
17:55 RifRaf tom please try those libs, you will have it going in 10 min
17:56 RifRaf then you can move on
17:56 RifRaf and doing cool stuff like bar graphs on it easy and more
17:58 RifRaf found some old dcservo.c code
17:59 RifRaf so its a pid thing
18:26 rue_house RifRaf, is devc++ installed yet? can we learn you c?
18:26 Steffanx heh
18:27 rue_house he's just gonna blow from frustration if he has to get others to do his coding all the time
18:27 RifRaf rue_house i am having lots more fun making stuff
18:27 rue_house ok
18:27 RifRaf dev c++ is installed
18:28 RifRaf did you see wat i got goin today, is way cool
18:28 rue_house open it up, do new console app, it'll make a default hello world, say compile & run, a dos box will pop up that says hello world
18:28 RifRaf rue_house remember making DC motors doing PID?
18:28 rue_house then we know it works
18:28 RifRaf ok then
18:31 RifRaf ok says press any key to continue, was different example
18:31 RifRaf system("PAUSE");
18:31 RifRaf return EXIT_SUCCESS;
18:32 rue_house oh yea
18:32 rue_house compile and run that hee how it does
18:32 RifRaf i did :/
18:33 RifRaf thats how i saw wat it did
18:33 RifRaf and i pressed the any key and it went away
18:33 rue_house good show
18:33 RifRaf so i can code now?
18:33 RifRaf yay
18:33 rue_house good, now I have to find my C class for robotics :)
18:34 RifRaf i need to learn pid today
18:34 rue_house heh, isn't it built in?
18:34 RifRaf apparently i don't need to worry about the I part too much
18:34 Tom_itx rue_house, default osc for 328 is 1mhz right?
18:34 RifRaf yes
18:35 Tom_itx ckdiv8 is set
18:35 RifRaf you should look at the code and see how it compares to yours
18:35 rue_house http://www.youtube.com/user/ZentaOlbaid?feature=watch <-- that guys really good at motion control
18:35 Tom_itx I is for the overflow buildup
18:35 rue_house Tom_itx, sounds right
18:35 Tom_itx and yes you need it
18:35 Tom_itx ok
18:35 RifRaf rue_house i got tiptoes walking much better than ever before this arvo
18:36 Tom_itx so if i trip the fuse it should be 8mhz right?
18:36 RifRaf I = 0
18:36 rue_house cool, you just have to say its a 3 servo hexapod?
18:36 RifRaf :p it ok, just bits in my brain from wat i been confusing myself with
18:36 Tom_itx I is acumulated P overshoot or undershoot
18:36 RifRaf its a 3 servo hexapod
18:36 RifRaf no i had to work for 2 days to do it rue
18:37 Tom_itx P and D make it snap to setpoint
18:37 RifRaf was hard work
18:37 Tom_itx I fine tunes it
18:37 RifRaf coding and all that
18:37 RifRaf but i can design gaits dymanically on the computer now, controlling 6 servos
18:37 RifRaf only using 3 but had to add 6 cause i could
18:37 RifRaf no jitter
18:38 RifRaf i wish you would install and look at it rue, someone must
18:38 RifRaf is mega cool, want to use it with DC motor s and feedback now
18:40 RifRaf and make a robot arm with lots of degrees of freedom do things
18:40 zhanx https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V2W-51-zS0A/UQR0KBOiCVI/AAAAAAAADnY/oN-9DCrlFZc/s640/2013-01-26%252019.25.42.jpg
18:40 zhanx https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-gmBZNdTSTRQ/UQRwXCPh3GI/AAAAAAAADnI/4j9QrEdhkLQ/s640/2013-01-26%252019.09.09.jpg
18:40 zhanx got rgb leds for it and a speaker now, drum set about done
18:40 rue_house ah
18:41 zhanx 6 small "snares" (is that the word?)and 3large drums
18:41 zhanx gonna set it to music
18:42 zhanx using aluminium foil as the sensoe
18:42 zhanx sensor
18:42 zhanx let me tell ya soldering to that was a pita
18:44 RifRaf rue_house did we finish todays lesson?
18:44 rue_house yes, you made great progress
18:44 RifRaf yay
18:44 rue_house and I have to find my c class for the rest
18:44 RifRaf ok gonna make up some new gaits
18:44 rue_house ok
18:45 zhanx rue i need classes one day
18:45 rue_house I'm gonna rewrite my network message server so that I can write a webserver
18:45 RifRaf so easy when you don't have to keep reflashing the uC
18:45 zhanx but i got to finish 18 projects first
18:45 RifRaf rue_house i think enough servers have been written, do something more fun
18:46 rue_house no I need to write a server to do this proper
18:46 RifRaf :/
18:47 zhanx ok off to cut aluminium foil more
18:50 RifRaf rue_house imagine trying to setup all your hexapod motors with a easy to use interface?
18:52 rue_house yup
18:56 RifRaf well its possible
18:57 rue_house yup, do they have a setting for an 18 axis hexapod?
18:57 rue_house they did pretty good with the controller io thing
18:58 RifRaf yep
18:58 RifRaf 22 servos in one i saw
18:58 rue_house wonder wher ethe other 4 go
18:59 RifRaf depends how many how can hook up, and support multiplexing them too
19:01 rue_house yup, mine are spread over a serial bus with custom control packets
19:01 RifRaf all supported
19:01 RifRaf rue it take like 2 minutes to install, try it, just a small java app
19:02 rue_house maybe a bit later
19:02 rue_house you know I like to make my own things
19:02 RifRaf yes but stop reinventing the wheel, i want to make things too
19:03 RifRaf getting the hardware all setup is painful, and this makes it easy to just set up the uC and get going with what you want it to do, you still need to know stuff
19:04 RifRaf and can add any custom code you have, you should see these real robot files i have fore it with all sorts of cool stuff
19:06 RifRaf http://www.societyofrobots.com/robot_ERP.shtml
19:06 RifRaf am gonna get one of there avr board, the axon ii i think it is, with vision stuff
19:11 Tom_itx rue_house, what does it mean if the first char is blinking?
19:11 Tom_itx looks like it's flashing all the bits on the first char
19:11 RifRaf how cool is that robot, voice controlled and all
19:12 RifRaf not hooked up right or a code issue, man see how long this takes every time
19:12 RifRaf should be a 2 minute wiring up lcd and get going, and thats what i have had the last week, watever ports are free
19:13 rue_house Tom_itx, of an lcd?
19:13 Tom_itx yes
19:13 RifRaf sometimes need to unplug the lcd if its on programming ports though
19:13 rue_house didn't know you cold cblink a character
19:13 Tom_itx i'm gonna try another one to see if it's the controller not quite compatible with HP44780
19:14 Tom_itx it could be a timing issue
19:14 RifRaf could be many things, that i hope i never have to think about again
19:15 Tom_itx rue_house, do you know any lcd's that need RW wired up?
19:15 Tom_itx i just grounded this pin
19:16 Tom_itx i'll put up the data sheet
19:17 RifRaf i use rw rs and enable on all of them in 4 bit mode
19:17 RifRaf could be your first issue
19:17 Tom_itx generally you don't need RW
19:17 RifRaf and 4 data pins, 7 wires to hook up an lcd, and it works every time
19:18 Tom_itx i've hooked up quite a few
19:20 RifRaf just putting it out there
19:20 RifRaf i get stuff like you are with a wire missing
19:21 RifRaf rue_house i found the code you wrote for the motion api, but having trouble compiling it, lots of the same kinda error
19:22 RifRaf would be great to get that going with these new libs since the servos are all stable
19:22 RifRaf maybe something in the mega32 to mega168 conversion
19:23 rue_house I'm just working on fixing some terrible code that wasn't written by me
19:24 rue_house got me head in it, give me a while
19:24 Tom_itx naw this code works on nearly anything
19:27 RifRaf has anyone found cheap brackets for sg90 servos or should i just make me own?
19:27 RifRaf so i can make a little arm
19:28 RifRaf and legs, got lots here to use up
19:34 Tom_itx ok it's acting the same on the other lcd
19:36 RifRaf funny that, try hook up rw
19:41 RifRaf http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/17DOF-Biped-Robot-Educational-Robot-Kit-Servo-Bracket-Ball-Bearing-Black-gi-/251175429798?pt=AU_Electronics_Vintage_Electronics&hash=item3a7b38e6a6&_uhb=1#ht_773wt_909
19:41 Tom_itx well sob. that was it
19:41 Tom_itx it must strobe rw
19:42 RifRaf :/
19:42 Tom_itx both working now
19:43 Tom_itx old and new lcd
19:43 Tom_itx some older lcds you could ground rw
19:44 RifRaf glad i didn't wait for you to get your one going :P
19:44 Tom_itx i'm glad i stayed with it
19:44 RifRaf would not have acheived about 10 others projects
19:44 Tom_itx see i learned something just now
19:44 RifRaf yep, i just believed that 7 wires were needed
19:45 RifRaf so wats next tom?
19:45 RifRaf gonna try the libs now?
19:45 RifRaf i dare you
19:46 RifRaf take a picture of of of your dev boards, set it up once and you are away
19:46 RifRaf of one of*
19:48 RifRaf Triffid_Hunter i bet its nice and wet up your way, has not stopped bucketing down here for like 12 hours, would be flooding but had too many drink to go find out
19:49 RifRaf nice and cosy in me new normal house
20:08 RifRaf steam powered bots http://www.crabfu.com/
20:19 gartt Cool
20:22 gartt We just need a steam-powered robot capable of collecting its own burning material
20:22 gartt I remember the army proposed a battlefield robot that would burn the bodies of the dead for power. Caught huge flak
20:25 RifRaf yep that was some interesting watching
20:25 RifRaf have always wanted to make a steam engine
20:26 RifRaf one of the welders at work has made a few, little tiny ones as well
20:27 gartt It'd be cool to have one for electricity generation if you lived in the middle of nowhere
20:27 RifRaf yep for sure
20:27 gartt It's a lot of work
20:27 gartt I think I'd rather use wind, hydro or solar, based on where I was
20:27 RifRaf yeah have made windmills and solarpanels
20:27 RifRaf both sitting unused
20:28 gartt Or even TEG off of a wood stove and water circulated by a heat sink for weak power requirements like LED light maybe
22:14 rue_house this server code is starting to loop reasonable
22:28 RifRaf wats the server for?
22:30 rue_house web control of buddyII
22:30 zhanx rue_house, https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HVcwIkqdn6E/UQSi_m9IaqI/AAAAAAAADoc/HYctFapT6rw/s512/2013-01-26%252022.45.36.jpg
22:31 rue_house I cant make javascript connect to a socket, but I can make a fake http service that operates the motors
22:32 rue_house so I'm cleaning up a program that takes connections from clients and echos the data between them
22:32 rue_house (its used for my home automation)
22:32 rue_house once I have it all nice and clean, I'll repurpose it with the http library I wrote
22:32 anx waits for
22:33 rue_house zhanx, want a copy?
22:33 zhanx nope an opinion on my drum set
22:36 rue_house http://paste.debian.net/229171/
22:36 rue_house there is still a LOT of cleanup I can do
22:38 RifRaf only 16 years to write that, and still cleaning up :)
22:38 Tom_itx lcd workin good now
22:38 rue_house no fair, I wasn't there for the fist 12
22:39 RifRaf wats it displaying tom?
22:40 Tom_itx working on a scroll function
22:40 Tom_itx i had one for pics
22:40 Tom_itx years ago
22:41 Tom_itx gonna go eat some cookies right now
22:41 rue_house keep the data in a buffer and rewrite the whole scrren?
22:41 Tom_itx write a char and shift it
22:41 Tom_itx and write another
22:42 rue_house oh sideways scrolling?
22:42 rue_house the screen does that?
22:42 rue_house you just change the ddram address, iirc
22:42 Tom_itx takes a bit of code
22:43 Tom_itx not running in address mode
22:43 rue_house I have some ebay maxim chips that run led displays
22:43 rue_house and a bunch of blue, green, and yellow led displays
22:43 rue_house I should play
22:43 rue_house get my head out of an editor for a while
22:50 RifRaf foxys computer is starting up :)
22:57 rue_shop3 yay
22:57 rue_shop3 what was the problem?
23:00 zhanx https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-i5_VelVXlEQ/UQSxOsDnxjI/AAAAAAAADpM/0Bk1OFjm6Zk/s640/2013-01-26%252023.45.57.jpg
23:02 rue_shop3 if I have a cylinder that puts out 12kg of force with 35 psi
23:03 rue_shop3 thats 26.46lbs at 35psi
23:04 rue_shop3 less than 1"^2
23:04 rue_shop3 .75"^2
23:05 rue_shop3 zippo:/files/programming/c/resistor# circle -a .75
23:05 rue_shop3 Radius is : 0.488603
23:05 rue_shop3 Diameter is: 0.977205
23:05 rue_shop3 Circumfrence is : 3.069980
23:05 rue_shop3 Area is : 0.750000
23:05 rue_shop3 Sphere area: 3.000000
23:05 rue_shop3 Sphere volume: 0.488603
23:05 rue_shop3 interesting
23:05 rue_shop3 the air muscle is about .5" diamiter
23:05 rue_shop3 but has the same force as a cylinder almost 1"
23:09 RifRaf just compiled motion on linux box by accident, so the compiler works
23:09 RifRaf wonder what is wront with the 12v psu
23:10 RifRaf rue have you seen cheap little brackets to connect micro servos together?
23:12 rue_house connect them togethor?
23:12 RifRaf yeah to make a mini multi segment arm
23:13 rue_shop3 you have me curious
23:13 zhanx rue_shop3, no commenty? https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-i5_VelVXlEQ/UQSxOsDnxjI/AAAAAAAADpM/0Bk1OFjm6Zk/s640/2013-01-26%252023.45.57.jpg
23:30 shuggans rif: Make one n sell it!
23:30 shuggans patent it
23:40 RifRaf shuggans whats that?
23:41 shuggans brackets to connect micro servos together
23:41 RifRaf oh a bracket, well am already drawing that up i cad yes
23:41 RifRaf so i can cut some out
23:42 RifRaf shuggans got the gait designer working today, big step
23:42 shuggans sweet man!
23:42 RifRaf have hexapod in a vice so it cannot get away walking nicely
23:42 shuggans my task of the night is to get my other driver's relay coil circuit together + ready for the mosfets when they come
23:43 RifRaf i need to get wireless comms going now though
23:43 RifRaf got these tint rx and transmitter, will see if it easyier to get going these days
23:43 RifRaf tiny*
23:43 RifRaf yes get those motors spinning dude
23:44 shuggans rue: you see the driver so far?\
23:45 RifRaf hard to get his attention, he is making something, keep trying :)
23:45 zhanx rue does drive
23:47 shuggans Rue: Check this out when you check IRC http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0054.jpg
23:47 shuggans Rue: this is bottom - http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0055.jpg
23:48 shuggans anyone know about flashing, rooting androids etc?
23:49 Jak_o_Shadows1 shuggans: #android-root
23:49 RifRaf shuggans have done it but so rarely
23:50 RifRaf need to do me transformer tablet one day
23:51 RifRaf yay someone made a library for it :) http://www.open.com.au/mikem/arduino/VirtualWire.pdf
23:51 zhanx ok all wires are wired, some how
23:51 zhanx not sure how i got it done, but its code time i guess
23:53 zhanx fubar, forgot wired to the would be here if i had them shift registers
23:58 shuggans hmm
23:58 shuggans I guess I'll make camp and wait for response fro mthat channel.
23:58 shuggans I tried there earlier
