00:10 rue_house nope
00:10 RifRaf its really worth a look, the best libs for avr i have seen
00:13 GargantuaSauce http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRvsm1W-5Ck
00:13 GargantuaSauce i can't decide if this is brilliant or really damn stupid
00:14 GargantuaSauce it might be both
00:14 DagoRed RifRaf: Thank you!
00:14 goRed likes what he sees for the webbot
00:15 RifRaf DagoRed you will like if you are like me
00:15 RifRaf and hate wasting all your time just setting up the hardware
00:16 rue_house RifRaf, for software robot or hardware
00:17 RifRaf i have been able to run lcd, buttons, text 2 speech and lots more in a day, and the week before that could not even get a lcd hooked up on the pins i wanted to use, this makes it so much better
00:17 DagoRed I don't mind setting up the hardware.... but yea I like to focus on being practical and not wasting time initializing everything.
00:17 RifRaf rue it helps with board design too, you tell it wat hardware you need and it can autoroute the i/o for the board, can add the boards you make
00:18 RifRaf am adding tiptoes in now so i can make it do stuff
00:18 RifRaf even has a gait designed
00:18 RifRaf designer
00:18 DagoRed wow
00:19 shuggans Rue: on?
00:20 rue_house heqaded out to shop
00:20 RifRaf support for so many motors, shuggans you can implement pwm on your arduino and commands in minutes since you can code
00:20 shuggans lol kk.
00:21 shuggans But I WANT to learn the deep level stuff
00:21 shuggans for hobby puposes - my hobby is learning thigns the hard way so I can MAKE easier ways
00:21 shuggans I dig it :)
00:22 shuggans that does look pretty cool though - but makes me want to make it myself :P
00:22 RifRaf lol
00:23 rue_shop2 shuggans,
00:24 shuggans hola! :D
00:24 RifRaf well its all free and simple to install so you should at least do that
00:24 shuggans power switches on both positive traces btw
00:24 rue_shop2 do you have a flicker account you can post images to?
00:24 shuggans I have a site i can
00:24 shuggans Im back at hoem now
00:24 shuggans should be able to do everythign I need
00:25 shuggans ftp
00:25 rue_shop2 ok, draw a schematic of what you know so far, take pic and post
00:28 shuggans rue:
00:28 shuggans Trying to draw what is in my head - I fail putting it on paper.
00:28 shuggans I have the idea down...
00:28 shuggans +- on each side of the relay, but opposite
00:29 shuggans but as for where the motor goes...
00:29 shuggans :S
00:29 shuggans there are 4 pins on the 2p2t relay?
00:32 rue_shop2 it can be implied that the contacts operate togethor but oppositsly
00:32 rue_shop2 dont worry about the drawing being correct
00:36 shuggans Ahhh
00:36 shuggans omg
00:36 shuggans ok
00:36 shuggans I know what im doing wrong
00:36 shuggans hold up.
00:36 shuggans battery goes to POSTS on the switch, correct?
00:36 shuggans not the throws?
00:36 shuggans (for this case)?
00:36 shuggans I just confused the crap out of myself for the last 10 mins :P
00:37 shuggans leme grab dif paper
00:40 rue_shop2 you can put the battery however you like to get the job done
00:40 shuggans have it drawn
00:40 shuggans Leme fidn an ftp client for my phone
00:41 rue_shop2 hmm the motor driver blew a fet and a flyback diode, that shouldn't have been possable...
00:45 shuggans http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0003.jpg
00:46 shuggans mosfets on battery leads
00:46 shuggans ?
00:52 GargantuaSauce http://dx.com/p/120542 shuggans
00:53 shuggans I have one
00:53 shuggans Im building motor driver to handle max load of 100 amps
00:54 shuggans (I want to build it)
00:54 rue_shop2 shuggans, 640x480 is fine...
00:54 shuggans Lol - Need me to retake?
00:54 shuggans I relaized that was huge after i uploaded
00:54 rue_shop2 scrolling...
00:55 rue_shop2 yes, you did a great job on that
00:55 rue_shop2 its interperted perfectly
00:55 shuggans and just need one fet one n channel fet on negative lead?
00:55 shuggans to stop/start?
00:55 rue_shop2 ok, so, go to www.digikey.com and find what you think is a good relay to use for a small motor
00:55 rue_shop2 shuggans, thats right, we can set that up later
00:56 rue_shop2 www.digikey.com
00:56 rue_shop2 :) this is part of the test
00:57 shuggans I/O modules?
00:57 rue_shop2 no, a relay
00:57 shuggans Power relays?
00:57 rue_shop2 lets say its a 12V, 2A motor
00:57 rue_shop2 shuggans, I'll let you browse around there
00:58 shuggans xD
00:58 shuggans theres 10 categorys of types of relays
00:58 rue_shop2 pick one, see what you get
00:58 rue_shop2 most of their stuff has pics
01:00 rue_shop2 your first answer dosn't have to be right
01:01 rue_shop2 and keep in mind that for the most part, dk's prices are insane
01:01 rue_shop2 (high)
01:02 shuggans http://www.digikey.com/scripts/dksearch/dksus.dll?FV=fff40010%2Cfff80367&vendor=0&mnonly=0&newproducts=0&ptm=0&fid=0&quantity=0&PV671=1&PV72=17&PV1409=20&PV1410=38&PV1411=34&PV1413=231
01:02 rue_shop2 hah, no photo
01:03 rue_shop2 its the right type of relay
01:03 rue_shop2 its din mount, thats $$$$
01:03 rue_shop2 (see datasheet)
01:04 shuggans hmmm
01:04 rue_shop2 ah what you found itnt a relay
01:04 rue_shop2 its a relay base
01:04 rue_shop2 try again :)
01:04 shuggans dumb - listed as a relay on dk
01:04 rue_shop2 look for a relay with current specifications
01:04 shuggans :P
01:05 rue_shop2 find one with a picture :)
01:08 rue_shop2 hmm the irf740 is slightly warm.... hmm 5.5A rating, that sucks
01:09 shuggans that dpdt is the only power relay available
01:09 shuggans on there
01:09 shuggans setting only that filter
01:09 shuggans the one I found that ISNT a relay :P
01:09 rue_shop2 there are over 400
01:09 shuggans signal relays?
01:10 rue_shop2 http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en/relays/power-relays-over-2-amps/1049447?k=dpdt
01:10 rue_shop2 over 2000 actually
01:12 rue_shop2 DPDT = 2P2T D = double
01:13 shuggans http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/TX2SL-LT-12V-TH/255-2860-ND/2125758
01:13 rue_shop2 ok
01:14 rue_shop2 be aware that you can use a relay rated for 34A to control a 2A motor, the relays rating is a max
01:14 shuggans ahh. so that would be a bad idea?
01:14 rue_shop2 its got a 12V coil, you would prolly have 12V available for running the motor
01:14 rue_shop2 I would suggest the components be rated for 2x what they are operating
01:15 rue_shop2 where reasonable
01:16 shuggans http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/HFW4A1201K00/A101703-ND/1209980
01:16 rue_shop2 ok, but you need 26V to operate its coil
01:17 rue_shop2 -- rated for atleast 2x --
01:17 shuggans amps can be way over, but volts needs to be exact?
01:17 rue_shop2 the coil is what actuates the internal switch
01:17 shuggans http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/KUP-11D15-12/PB153-ND/44998
01:17 rue_shop2 so you need to give it the full coil voltage ** to activate it
01:17 rue_shop2 aha! that looks like a great relay!
01:18 rue_shop2 ok now, you may have another thing you can change with the selection
01:19 rue_shop2 the microcontroller operates on 5V, you might, under some conditions, be able to find a relay with a 5V coil
01:19 rue_shop2 but
01:19 rue_shop2 do you want to look more or shall I move on?
01:19 shuggans so "turn on voltage" isnt what thats for?
01:19 rue_shop2 thats the **
01:19 shuggans microcontroller goes to the coil? that's the switch part of it?
01:20 rue_shop2 a relay *may* turn on at down to 50% of its rated coil voltage
01:20 rue_shop2 shuggans, you would still need a transistor in there, but it might make design simpler under some conditions
01:20 mrfist hello, been trying to solve one of my issues in my project. and I am attempting to detect red light with a photoresistor, than output 1.5volts. is that possible?
01:20 shuggans but the "pole" peice that switches is the coil?
01:21 rue_shop2 no
01:21 rue_shop2 shuggans,
01:21 shuggans so my "High" from te microcontroller @ 5v needs a 5v coil relay?
01:21 rue_shop2 http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/KUP-11D15-12/PB153-ND/44998
01:21 rue_shop2 open up the datasheet for that
01:21 rue_shop2 go down to "terminal assignment"
01:22 rue_shop2 3rd diagram from the right
01:22 rue_shop2 tell me when your ready
01:22 rue_shop2 mrfist, it can be done
01:23 shuggans yep
01:23 shuggans rdy
01:24 mrfist any quick ideas? been trying to figure this out for few hours. thank you.
01:24 rue_shop2 see the diagram?
01:24 shuggans for 2 Form C?
01:24 rue_shop2 mrfist, yes, I'm wokring on two problems right now tho
01:24 rue_shop2 shuggans, yes
01:25 rue_shop2 see the two switches?
01:25 rue_shop2 mrfist, you need a filter, a light one
01:25 shuggans 4 and 6 switch between 1,7 nd 3,9?
01:26 rue_shop2 nope, 7 and 9 are the poles
01:26 rue_shop2 welcome to nonstandard diagram hell :)
01:26 rue_shop2 otherwise called 'real world'
01:26 rue_shop2 :)
01:26 shuggans nice.
01:27 shuggans rue: feel free to pause my stuff at any time to help others
01:27 rue_shop2 so, try correcting and say agian
01:27 KimLaroux again*
01:27 rue_shop2 Lola8088, hey, no, I dont hate you :)
01:27 shuggans 7 switches between 4,1 and 9 switches between 6 and 3
01:27 rue_shop2 yes
01:27 rue_shop2 now, see the resistor they have between A and B?
01:28 shuggans that's the line inbetween poles?
01:28 rue_shop2 at bottom, not part of the swtich
01:28 shuggans (no clue - jsut a guess )
01:28 shuggans yes i see it though
01:29 rue_shop2 think I just blew that fet... wtf?
01:29 rue_shop2 ok, its not a ressitor
01:29 rue_shop2 its the coil of the relay
01:29 rue_shop2 see it wired between A and B there?
01:29 shuggans mhmm
01:30 shuggans thats for microcontroller?
01:30 rue_shop2 ok, that should be a round curlie line
01:30 rue_shop2 thats for whatever is controlling the relay
01:30 rue_shop2 hmm I think the avr crashed....
01:31 shuggans BTW: sidenote. I got a atmega644pv as sample. Usable for alot?
01:31 KimLaroux µc can crash? I've never seen that
01:31 shuggans in the same way the 328p is?
01:32 rue_shop2 shuggans, if you are really good at soldering small things
01:32 rue_shop2 KimLaroux, I think the power supply went ont eh fristz
01:32 rue_shop2 its a highly underloaded smps
01:32 shuggans its a DIN form 20 pin'
01:33 shuggans not too small at all :)
01:33 rue_shop2 oh its a DIP?
01:33 rue_shop2 I didn't know they made the 644 as a dip
01:33 rue_shop2 ok
01:33 shuggans I got one in front of me :P
01:33 rue_shop2 good show, yes, thats a good one to train on
01:33 shuggans I also have a tiny flat one (like 2 mm) withotu pins
01:33 rue_shop2 you can use smaller/cheaper ones when you know the min you can work with
01:33 shuggans idk HOW im gna use that
01:34 rue_shop2 thats what I was thinking
01:34 rue_shop2 ok, so, I was saying, that is the relay coil
01:34 rue_shop2 you apply and remove pwoer from that, the switch in it switches over
01:34 shuggans also got a 328P-PU bc it was the same as my arduino
01:35 rue_shop2 ok
01:35 shuggans I see
01:35 rue_shop2 ok, hmm where to go from here
01:35 shuggans so no need to attach to pin 7 n 9?
01:35 shuggans except battery?
01:36 rue_shop2 you need to hook it up like your diagram
01:36 shuggans motor traces to 1346?
01:36 rue_shop2 it will reverse the motor for you
01:36 rue_shop2 its just a switch, thats electronically operated
01:37 rue_shop2 1-9 are the switch,
01:37 rue_shop2 A and B are the control for operating it
01:37 rue_shop2 get it?
01:37 shuggans Yep now
01:38 rue_shop2 mrfist, you need a red filter for the photoresistor
01:38 shuggans brb - I need nicotein to continue. It will help :P
01:38 rue_shop2 mrfist, no, talk in here, I hate switching tabs
01:43 RifRaf a resistor just smoked and popped off my good servo board :(
01:44 rue_shop2 hah, your projects going as well as mine
01:44 RifRaf was just testing, it was a resistor between vcc and lm3480 regulator, would that be about 10 ohm rue?>
01:44 shuggans back
01:45 rue_shop2 RifRaf, its the fuse resistor
01:45 RifRaf it seemed to be working for a second, now the avr is dead, hopefully i can replace resistor, was 0603 and it dropped on the carpet though
01:45 RifRaf yes thank goodness for a fuse resistor
01:45 rue_shop2 biab
01:46 fRaf goes tries to find
01:48 RifRaf found some 0.1 ohm would that work?
01:48 RifRaf is a 100ma regulator, but maybe i had a servo plugged in wrong
01:49 rue_shop2 yes
01:49 rue_shop2 typ the protection is via the wattage rating
01:49 RifRaf geez these are small
01:49 rue_shop2 shuggans, now we need to go over fets
01:49 RifRaf 1/10 w
01:50 rue_shop2 shuggans, did you have a particular type of fet in mind?
01:50 shuggans Let me show you what I ordered
01:51 shuggans They are N channel
01:51 rue_shop2 good
01:51 shuggans http://www.ebay.com/itm/110635862022?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
01:53 shuggans datasheet shows a built in ... diode?
01:53 rue_shop2 yes, but it dosn't help
01:53 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: that's a parasitic diode between the channel and substrate, not some extra they chucked in for you
01:54 shuggans I see. Well are these good for what Im doing?
01:54 rue_shop2 heh
01:54 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: as diodes go, it's fairly poor.. same current rating as the fet itself, but high Vf (usually 1.1v range) and slow reverse recovery
01:54 rue_shop2 well they are good for atleast 20A
01:55 rue_shop2 next time look for a bid on a lot of 5 or so
01:55 rue_shop2 :)
01:55 shuggans :P
01:55 rue_shop2 if the part number starts with IRF its a good thing too
01:55 shuggans i got 16 of them
01:55 rue_shop2 wait WTF $5 shipping!?
01:55 shuggans lol
01:55 rue_shop2 you can get irf-- for $1 ea free shipping
01:55 shuggans canada
01:55 shuggans irf=?
01:56 rue_shop2 yea, that'll moof it
01:56 RifRaf yay got it soldered and board working again :)
01:56 rue_shop2 should have got it from china, takes same travel time, but its cheaper shipping
01:56 rue_shop2 australlia is fast shipping, for descent price
01:56 rue_shop2 china is ~22 days, usually free shipping
01:57 shuggans but these will work well? Or should I get somethign else? I want these boards to handle 100 amps... I think the motors are 40 or 60
01:58 rue_shop2 shuggans, as rifraf said, dont expect more than 20A/fet
01:58 rue_shop2 its a package limit
01:58 rue_shop2 the wires comming out of it aren't big enough to handle a lot more
01:58 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: Rds(on)@Vgs=4.5v is 14mR which isn't bad. TO-220 package does 75A absolute max
01:59 rue_shop2 Triffid_Hunter, I would argue that
01:59 rue_shop2 I'm sure I can melt those pins at 75A
01:59 shuggans but by daisy chaining them we can get aroudn that limit?
01:59 rue_shop2 you can gang them for higher currents
01:59 rue_shop2 so 100A = 5fets in parallel
01:59 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: google 'chuck mcmanis fet current ratings'
01:59 rue_shop2 I'd recommend 6
01:59 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: that article is extremely relevant for you
02:00 rue_shop2 but its also too complex for him right now
02:00 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: also, for driving currents like those, you MUST have a gate driver or the fets will detonate when they switch
02:00 shuggans triffid: this is my first electronics project of any sort
02:00 rue_shop2 somehting that has rule of thumb and not thermal calculations is appropriot
02:00 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: then I'd strongly suggest dropping the 100A goal, and aiming for perhaps 5A to start with ;)
02:00 rue_shop2 shuggans, were gonna do a small motor first, right?
02:01 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: for reference, it takes less than 100A to arc weld..
02:01 shuggans Ok. Hopld up. first off- I should OPRBABLY find the info on the motors...
02:01 rue_shop2 I usually weld at 43A
02:02 rue_shop2 55A if I'm really going at it
02:02 rue_shop2 80A if I'm using the welding rod to cut the metal and I'm not really welding it
02:02 shuggans - drvmotr1114 is the part number
02:02 shuggans there is NO info on the motors themselves
02:02 shuggans and all I can find on google is orderign replacement parts info
02:03 rue_shop2 what lead you to use this motor?
02:04 shuggans Here si my project:
02:04 shuggans My brother bought an electric wheelchair. He took the motors/modified the frame + is building a tank out steel
02:04 shuggans left me with + and - leads and said "Bring it to robotic, RC life!"
02:05 rue_shop2 ah
02:05 shuggans going to drive it with 2 12v car batteries
02:05 rue_shop2 wheelchair ok
02:05 rue_shop2 ok
02:05 rue_shop2 they run on 24V, usuauly have a 40A or so fuse
02:05 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: car batteries suck for that sort of thing.. the instantaneous current is good but the capacity is dreadful and they get permanently degraded if you discharge below 70% or so
02:06 shuggans open to suggestions on the batteries. But focusing on the moro driver boards right now
02:06 Triffid_Hunter better off with 7S lipo
02:06 shuggans motor*
02:06 Triffid_Hunter hm, make that 6S with these mosfets, they can't take more than 30v
02:07 RifRaf damn the magic smoke came out again :(
02:07 RifRaf i think its fatal now, the resistor is still on
02:09 shuggans what is lipo?
02:09 rue_shop2 heh
02:10 RifRaf this time a cap blew off
02:10 rue_shop2 dont use flooded car batteries, use gel batteries, will give you more runtime
02:10 rue_shop2 RifRaf, your power supply in on backwards
02:11 RifRaf am sure this worked in the past
02:11 rue_shop2 Triffid_Hunter, what is the continious output current limit on those?
02:11 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: have a look at hobbyking.com
02:11 rue_shop2 RifRaf, your power is connected backwards
02:11 rue_shop2 thats the ONLY reason a cap blows
02:11 Triffid_Hunter rue_shop2: generally pretty crazy, I got a cheapie 3S and it's rated 60A continuous
02:12 rue_shop2 I know li-ion dosn't take well to high current stuff like lead does
02:12 Triffid_Hunter and frankly after measuring the voltage drop with lesser loads I don't doubt it
02:12 Triffid_Hunter rue_shop2: the R/C crew specially formulate them for insane discharge rates. they sacrifice capacity for it
02:12 rue_shop2 ok, shuggans
02:13 rue_shop2 something occurs to me
02:13 rue_shop2 !assist robots/mowerbot2/
02:13 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/mowerbot2/
02:13 rue_shop2 http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/robots/mowerbot2/p1020374.jpg
02:13 rue_shop2 shuggans, guess what thats made from
02:14 rue_shop2 RifRaf, you recall the rating on those 1440 fets you sent me some of?
02:14 shuggans :D
02:15 RifRaf 192A peak :) the irf ones?
02:15 rue_shop2 yes
02:15 RifRaf 1404
02:15 rue_shop2 shuggans, I'm using 2 of those fets to drive that
02:15 rue_shop2 per motor
02:15 RifRaf good for 20A though
02:15 rue_shop2 they were overheating UNTILL I added flyback diodes
02:16 shuggans so most likely 40 amp motors?
02:16 rue_shop2 I dont have a flat yard
02:17 shuggans ?
02:17 rue_shop2 my primary battery breaker is 15A
02:17 rue_shop2 and its not till I'm climbing a long steep slope that it trips
02:17 shuggans S what you're saying is: I dont need to build these nearly as beefy as I thought?
02:18 rue_shop2 prolyl not
02:18 shuggans hmmm
02:18 rue_shop2 I'm not gonna say that my drivers are the strongest part of the setup
02:18 shuggans So If I built for 30 amps or 40 amps
02:18 RifRaf rue the tank is gonna be about 500lb though he estimates, might need bigger motors
02:18 rue_shop2 depends
02:19 shuggans that's coming from my brother. I dont see how it will weigh that much
02:19 rue_shop2 you get more leverage on track spokes than the tires
02:19 rue_shop2 biab
02:22 shuggans I dont see how the thing will weigh more that 250.
02:24 rue_shop2 hmm this is going ok
02:24 rue_shop2 tommoro morning is gonna be hell
02:24 rue_shop2 shuggans, anyhow, I suggest a relay and get pwm driver
02:25 rue_shop2 then you can do speed control
02:25 rue_shop2 Tom_itx, where the hell are you
02:25 shuggans pwm?
02:25 rue_shop2 RifRaf, know a good pwm intro page?
02:25 rue_shop2 for theroy?
02:26 shuggans so "ganing" fets = drain to source, drain to source etc for N channel?
02:26 shuggans ganging*\
02:27 shuggans and then can i split out one +5v wire to the gates?
02:27 rue_shop2 shuggans, there is a payoff for large fets
02:27 rue_shop2 the higher the capacity of the fet, the larger the capacitance of the gate is
02:27 shuggans (what I have = large fes?)
02:28 shuggans fets*
02:28 rue_shop2 the higher the gate capacitance is, the more power you have to exert to switch them from on to off and back again
02:28 rue_shop2 yes,
02:28 shuggans these say logic level
02:28 rue_shop2 yes
02:28 shuggans not true?
02:29 rue_shop2 its true, they are 5V gate, but the current to switch them may be more than the micro can put out to switch them quickly
02:29 rue_shop2 if you dont switch them quickly they overheat
02:29 rue_shop2 Tom_itx, RifRaf where the hell are you two
02:30 RifRaf trying to work out whats wrong with every board i try
02:30 rue_shop2 you have the power backwards
02:31 rue_shop2 as you go from one to the next your blowing them all up :)
02:31 rue_shop2 backwards power will instantly kill the avr
02:31 RifRaf well i took the resistor off as well, so hopefully can run the servos from the battery and the avr from the programmer
02:31 rue_shop2 iirc
02:31 RifRaf i can still flash it
02:32 RifRaf but need to setup the board in webbotlibs and make some servo code
02:33 rue_shop2 RifRaf, do you know of a good pwm page?
02:33 rue_shop2 I cant write one right now
02:34 RifRaf http://webbot.org.uk/WebbotLibDocs2/44209.html
02:34 shuggans reading on google...
02:35 shuggans Says some AVRs have it...
02:35 shuggans does my ATMEGA328P-PU?
02:35 RifRaf http://www.societyofrobots.com/member_tutorials/node/228
02:37 shuggans It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs
02:37 rue_shop2 look for the theroy stuff, you dont need to know how to program it on an avr
02:37 shuggans " <What i just psted> "
02:37 shuggans Lol. Ok.
02:38 rue_shop2 http://www.societyofrobots.com/member_tutorials/node/229
02:38 shuggans So. for now
02:38 shuggans what amp relay do I need to look for?
02:39 shuggans 60 tops
02:40 shuggans ?
02:40 rue_shop2 see what you cant find
02:40 rue_shop2 can
02:40 rue_shop2 stupid mouse cursor is always in the way
02:40 rue_shop2 shuggans, automotive stuff is typically high current
02:40 rue_shop2 remember that you can use two SPDT relays
02:41 rue_shop2 technically even 4 spst
02:45 shuggans I wonder if the chair CAME with relays...
02:46 shuggans in it's original system.. and if my brother HAS them...
02:46 shuggans I jsut sent him a txt to ask. I wish it wasnt 2:30am :(
02:48 shuggans rue: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-PACK-30-40-AMP-RELAY-HARNESS-SPDT-12V-BOSCH-STYLE-S-SHIPS-FREE-FAST-FROM-USA-/390461017170?pt=US_Relays_Sensors&hash=item5ae94a4c52&vxp=mtr <- ???
02:49 shuggans or rifraf, or triffid
02:49 shuggans :P
02:50 RifRaf yep they will do it
02:50 shuggans just need 2 per motor right?
02:51 shuggans wait, jsut 1 per motor...?
02:51 shuggans in the "Y circuit"
02:51 RifRaf 2 spdt
02:51 shuggans then the mosfet on the negative
02:51 RifRaf per motor
02:52 rue_shop2 shuggans, they typcailly use all mosfets, but its harder for you cause its your first project
02:52 rue_shop2 shuggans, yes, mosfet for on/off
02:53 rue_shop2 shuggans, if, for now you only want on and off, just use relays for that too
02:53 rue_shop2 fets will give you speed control (which I recommend)
02:53 shuggans by going on/off with longer pauses in between and then that pause gettign shorter n shorter up to no pause?
02:55 shuggans I think I would be fine with just plain on off though right?
02:56 rue_shop2 no
02:56 rue_shop2 you keep the pulses the same rate
02:56 rue_shop2 I'll write a proper webpage describing it all later
02:56 rue_shop2 just on and off would not be a good thing unelss it moves REALLY slow
03:01 rue_shop2 ok the posts are made, now I need to make pins...
03:03 RifRaf http://rifraf.dyndns.org/images/LM3480.png if that works its the board that keeps blowing up at the power supply
03:06 RifRaf http://rifraf.dyndns.org/images/servo6.jpg
03:18 RifRaf did those images work for anyone?
03:19 RifRaf i had an idea, maybe because there are servos on the programming ports something is going crazy when i flash the chip, cause thats when it happens
03:24 rue_shop2 cant load them
03:25 rue_shop2 haha, I made 2x as many cross dowels as I needed, and then needed twice as many as I thought
03:25 Jak_o_Shadows1 handy
03:28 RifRaf rue_shop2 did you see the schem above?
03:29 Tom_itx timed out for me
03:30 RifRaf ok will check settings
03:31 rue_shop2 no, your images from your site aren't loading
03:32 RifRaf please try now
03:32 rue_shop2 Tom_itx, do you have a pwm page that shuggans can read over that says what pwm is without going on and on about how its coded on an avr?
03:32 RifRaf http://rifraf.dyndns.org/images/LM3480.png
03:32 RifRaf http://rifraf.dyndns.org/images/servo6.jpg
03:32 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/abcminiuser/articles/avr_timers_index.php
03:33 Tom_itx yeah those work now
03:35 rue_shop2 its linear
03:35 RifRaf do you think servos connected to the programming ports could drive them crazy and blow things up?
03:35 rue_shop2 dude, I'm telling ya, your power polarity must be backwards
03:36 Tom_itx rue_shop2, ^^ covers pwm i think
03:36 RifRaf only if i made the regulator backwards in eagle
03:36 Tom_itx that's possible
03:36 RifRaf or the smt caps are on the wrong way around?
03:36 Tom_itx some of those are
03:36 Tom_itx are they ceramic?
03:36 Tom_itx what kindof caps
03:36 RifRaf electrolitic i believe
03:37 Tom_itx the band is negative
03:37 RifRaf yeah its going to negative
03:37 RifRaf i found more regulators and should have another cap, so will rebiuld the circiut in morning and hope avr is ok
03:38 Tom_itx i missed out... what's it doing?
03:38 Tom_itx just got up
03:38 RifRaf it was working fine, am sure it blew up every time i was trying to flash it, but cannot be sure
03:39 RifRaf first r3 blew off, so i replaced it, with 0.1R 1/10w
03:39 rue_shop2 it blew caue the backwards input power caused too much downstream load
03:40 rue_shop2 then when you replaced it, the cap blew cause it couldn't take the current from the reverse voltage
03:40 RifRaf and this time C7 blew off, with puffs of magic smoke
03:40 rue_shop2 you had the input power backwards, only explination,
03:41 RifRaf i have looked at the board fine, the servos were twitching as normal till it blew
03:41 RifRaf i was trying to put new servo code in
03:41 Tom_itx what V do you get out the reg?
03:41 RifRaf and holding position
03:41 rue_shop2 you ahve to have 2x the rated voltage for a cap to blow in forward prolarity, usually more
03:42 RifRaf cannot check now, but will find some multimeter leads with fine point in morn
03:42 RifRaf its blown up at moment, but can still flash the mega168 powering it with the isp
03:42 RifRaf so hoping the rest is still ok and just the regulator part damaged
03:43 RifRaf am very annoyed though
03:43 RifRaf this is a cool looking pcb
03:44 RifRaf was connected to foxys eyes and was trying to make the 4 servos move again
03:44 RifRaf and the eyes have a camera each, used to track with motion code
03:44 RifRaf but want to use webbotlibs for the code generation now
03:44 RifRaf will be alot easier if i can get the hardware part working
03:59 rue_shop2 ok, the robot has a mounting frame for the computer
03:59 rue_shop2 yay
04:08 RifRaf regulator output now 1.2v, the other cap seems to have shorted out as well
04:09 RifRaf so had to take it off, and current draw back to 0, will try find these regs
04:17 RifRaf new reg on. 5.00v on the other side, 6.2v in
04:18 RifRaf no caps on reg yet
04:18 Tom_itx double check the cap polarity
04:19 RifRaf draws over an amp when i plug in a servo, maybe i blew them up as well
04:22 Triffid_Hunter heh last time I had magic smoke escaping I ended up with a neat new ESC
04:45 rue_shop2 mmm just made a nice ball and cup cv with the lathe
04:51 RifRaf i just got servos moving on the board with new libs, can sleep better now, i had the clock speed wrong
04:54 RifRaf 6 servos sweeping and 2 leds plus avr, 600mA
04:55 RifRaf would the signal be damaging to a servo at 1/16 the clock speed?
04:55 RifRaf i'll be sure to unplug them before programming though
05:05 rue_house the servos aren't damaged by anything comming in
05:05 rue_house but they might draw a lot of current
05:10 RifRaf something is up, i forgot to unplug them again
05:10 RifRaf but ripped out the power, seems ok still
05:11 RifRaf flashed fine with no servos, blows up regulator circuit with servos attached when flashing
08:30 Tom_itx RifRaf, something is odd with the circuit then i would think
08:51 chris_99 can anyone recommend a pan-tilt servo kit, for a camera
08:54 chris_99 ooh just found http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__20674__FatShark_FPV_Pan_Tilt_Mount_w_9g_Servos_complete_.html
08:54 chris_99 with servos
11:03 rue_house chris_99, we like to make that stuff, typically dont buy it
11:04 chris_99 mm, itd work out cheaper for me to buy it, as i don't have much tools
12:34 theBear i spose tools cost money, but nothing is cheaper than free
12:36 MjrTom you can get paid to take stuff
12:38 theBear like a pharmaceutical guinea pig ? i could do that
12:38 theBear <grin>
12:38 chris_99 hehe
12:38 MjrTom well, maybe, or to take tools away
12:41 theBear really ? i known of a few people being paid to take away potential robot parts/old tech stuff, but never tools
12:42 theBear i think the 6 monthly (i like this suburb) rubbish pickup must be getting close, bunch of stuff appearing on curbs this week... should go for a shuffle soon and see what i see
12:51 ShH frowns at the
12:51 GuShH I never get free stuff...
12:53 theBear i didn't say i'd been paid... tho i've had a few good hookups over the years, like half-friend/half-clients or regulars at a bar my best buddy ran... once they done that kinda thing a couple times they got all the crap they'll ever need, so they give lots away, it gains favours and loyalty, and saves them actually getting rid of it or maybe paying for landfill etc
12:53 eBear glances over at the shoebox FULL with old pdas and smart and regular ph
12:54 GuShH :/
12:54 theBear mostly not much use, but parts and maybe batteries and little lcd screens
12:54 GuShH that type of box screams drug dealer!
12:54 GuShH then again I've got drawers full of parts and stuff, what does it make me?
12:54 GuShH "single"
12:55 theBear around 2002/3 my buddy running the bar had a great customer, he got corporate gear to get rid of every year, so we were getting 1y.old usually mint condition early htcs and hp pocket pcs and things regularly
12:55 theBear lol
12:55 GuShH bah who closes at 3PM????
12:55 GuShH how can you do business if you close so early
12:55 GuShH stupid lazy asses.
12:56 GuShH and why do people demand you call them to give you their address?
12:56 GuShH what, if you sound high or they don't like your voice they'll refuse?
12:57 GuShH "Sorry sir, you don't sound like a Tenor to me and quite frankly your falsetto makes my penis crawl in."
12:58 GuShH Get it straight people! You are already communicating through email, don't switch to phone. What's next, FAX, pneumatic tubes and smoke signals?
12:58 theBear a few suburbs right around where i lived the last few years are amazing, for example i generally rode to work around 9:30-10, aside from the odd deli/newsagent and bottleshops (big chains, sensible rules) EVERYWHERE is closed, and most of them closed by the time i come back past maybe 5 or 6pm
12:58 GuShH Maybe I should place an encrypted ad on the newspaper instead.
12:59 GuShH Talk about that sodimm ram I've been wanting to get without letting those cops know about it!
12:59 GuShH ...
12:59 theBear there's a little indian place nearby that's actually pretty good, even if it looks like a dive, but the guy opens late, closes early, seems to just not open regularly if he's not in the mood, and somehow he can still afford to have a shopfront
12:59 GuShH theBear: and then they complain about not having enough work.
12:59 theBear hehe yeah
12:59 GuShH I think some towns are complete drug fronts.
12:59 theBear we talked in the last day ? you heard my fresh new hell ?
13:00 GuShH Otherwise, how can they possibly exist
13:00 GuShH I only know you went to the doc
13:00 ShH has been busy trying to get a la
13:00 theBear heh, there was a cafe like that next to a friends place a few years back, they got the lease, redid the front windows and doors and fitted out 80% of the inside like a cafe about to open, then just shuffled a few things around inside every month or so, basically it sat empty and never ONCE opened for 2 or 3 years :)
13:01 GuShH You know, since my laptop has a flexed mainboard and it's entirely dead beyond reflow.
13:01 GuShH And building a gaming desktop is a waste of money when you can get a ps3 if gaming is what you want...
13:01 theBear mmm, i'm not allowed to work for 3months, i got told "you can't be fixed, but we can manage things", and i got these new pills that make me into a rambling spacecadet
13:02 GuShH but you were always a rambler.
13:02 ShH bl
13:02 GuShH as long as they don't give you flyback's pills...
13:03 theBear heh, i don't think anything could make me like that, tho if i start miserable rambling please tell me, i was having a BAD time a few hours ago, looked at the 2 screens of crap i'd just written in the big channel, wasn't as horrible as what he writes, but it was 99% whinging and misery.... we don't need that
13:04 GuShH hmm
13:04 theBear i used to take ONE of these pills to knock me out for 20 hours or so when everything was too much, seems without the pills i used to take they don't just pass me out, but wow, they do a number on my head, and i'm supposed to try to take 2 a day... lyrica for reference
13:05 GuShH and they're rated for horses, imagine what it'll do to a regular guy!
13:05 theBear on the upside, nothing i have to take daily is heavily addictive, or likely to be addictive at all in the 3months estimated potential recovery period, and none of them burn the lining off your insides so no more anti-bleeding-tummy pills :)
13:05 theBear hehe :)
13:06 theBear i got a buddy with a mildly (regular) bad back, apparently during bad periods he takes them so he can get through work... i can't imagine working like this
13:07 GuShH I have to put up with back pain and kidney stones.
13:07 theBear while they do make me all spacey and lightheaded and confused and slur-ey, they don't seem to make me technically stupid like the old ones, which is nice i suppose
13:07 theBear oooh, i hope not to experience those kidney things, or at least passing them
13:07 GuShH so by taking the new pills you would not be able to work for places like sparkfun
13:07 GuShH I don't think you can pass these
13:08 GuShH you'd have to be a horse.
13:08 GuShH if you could, you would probably use them to kill someone
13:08 GuShH FREEZE! <shoot>
13:08 GuShH o.o
13:10 theBear heh
13:10 theBear i dunno a lot about sparkfun, but i think being a spacecadet wouldn't hurt :)
13:11 theBear but i'm pretty much under strict instruction not to do anything work-like, pretty sure that even means i shouldn't sit here too often, and definately not get upset/angry/physically tense with idiots
13:13 theBear gonna reapply for real disability pension instead of just indefinate backup unemployed-pension on monday, should get it this time (it's gotta be 2years+ of crippled to be considered) which should make things just bearable
13:14 GuShH hmm
13:16 theBear got any idea what an average 3.5" hd uses watts wise ? just ballpark
13:16 theBear obviously under load, not just idling
13:16 GuShH no
13:16 theBear me too
13:17 theBear but i did make up that incredibly bodgy looking 'extension lead' with the banana plugs and replace my meter fuse last week, i should find out
13:17 theBear spose i can just find a single in arunning machine and sleep/wake/stress it, tho i'd have to unplug a machine for that :)
13:18 theBear i wonder if i got a camera with my phone waiting on parts still.. i gotta get a pic of the dodgy little board i hacked up last night (just gotta replace a fet now 'cos i did something silly) to make the new led driver talk to the projector
13:19 theBear it's spectacularly backyardish.. pretty much designed around the first appropriate parts i could find
13:20 theBear good practice on that circuitlab thing tho, figured once i'd drawn it to ask a question on irc, may as well click a few times and simulate too
13:20 GuShH hmm
13:20 GuShH I never measured amp consumption on anything really
13:20 GuShH I was going to get a "kill a watt" but I never did.
13:20 GuShH should get a good estimate out of the amp draw though
13:21 theBear this is roughly how it got put together, the more updated version is all messy, net tags and added components and crap https://www.circuitlab.com/circuit/g4s9wh/lamp-control-and-sensing_pjl1035_projector/
13:22 theBear there are noname killawatt style things at the 2dollar shop nearby for about 20bucks, tempted to get one, i suppose even if it's near useless, i can use the shunts/hall/whatever and the casing to make my own
13:23 GuShH yeah they don't sell 'em here
13:23 GuShH you gotta get the true rms one though!
13:24 theBear never even seen real killawatt in this country, and pretty sure this was just a oneoff opportunist china import kinda buy, but for that kinda price, even if you get a casing and a shunt or sensor and nothing else yer doing ok... but yeah, i was kinda sceptical it might only work accurately on things like lightbulbs
13:25 GuShH yeah the real killawatt is for yankees only
13:26 GuShH with their girly 110V
13:26 GuShH and their silly plugs
13:27 theBear ahh, that explains it
13:27 theBear silly little plugs, surprised the things stays in the wall
13:27 GuShH you'll see 'em crawling behind the tumble dryer just to get a taste of 220
13:28 GuShH :D
13:28 GuShH oh wait sorry building code says they can't have the plug directly behind the appliance, I think.
13:28 GuShH ah no, it depends on the "state"
13:28 GuShH sorry, it's actually dependent upon the mood of the inspector.
13:28 ShH
13:29 GuShH "Here's a burrito sir, I take it I passed the inspection now?"
13:29 GuShH "sir? sir? call 911 hes having a heart attack!"
13:29 GuShH "I can't call 911, my fingers are too fat!! we're doomed!!"
13:30 GuShH And.. that takes care of that.
13:30 GuShH I like new enemies.
13:48 rue_house hehehe
13:49 rue_house hmm I need a 12V -> 12V battery charger
13:49 Rif how many amps?
13:49 rue_house hmm
13:49 rue_house 8ish would prolly do
13:50 Rif am still very happy with these swallow chargers, good for 12v to 12v upto 5A
13:50 Rif and does any other battery as well
13:50 rue_house hmm
13:50 rue_house the thought is to have a secondary accessory battery for the truck
13:51 rue_house put a 12V charger off the accessories line
13:51 rue_house to charge them
13:51 rue_house 2x 12V 18Ah or so
13:51 Rif get a dual battery thing like a sidewinder, have one ibn my car to charge boat battery while i drive
13:52 rue_house no diodes!
13:52 rue_house they screw up the charging voltages
13:52 Rif no
13:52 rue_house iirc the sidewinder is a high capacity diode pack
13:53 rue_house am I thinking of something else?
13:53 Rif this works well, i have monitored it for a long time, i disconnect it when i stop though because it only cuts the 2 batteries at 12.4V
13:53 rue_house 3 lugs on the top
13:53 rue_house ?
13:53 Rif http://www.sidewinder.com.au/page79.html
13:55 rue_house hmm
13:56 Rif if you want 2 batteries in a vehicle you want something like that
13:59 rue_house yup
13:59 rue_house I was thinking a smart relay
14:00 rue_house in and out with the accessories
14:00 rue_house but I'd like a smarter charger
14:02 RifRaf ok this morning i must get one avr transmitting and another one recieving over rs232
14:02 RifRaf i know i can cut out the max232
14:03 rue_house yup
14:03 rue_house did you work out why the cap exploded?
14:03 RifRaf but still gonna need some help with the code
14:03 rue_house were you reverse polatiry or overvoltage?
14:03 RifRaf well i have a theroy
14:03 RifRaf nope
14:03 rue_house has to be one or the other
14:03 RifRaf it blows up when i flash the chip with servos attached
14:04 rue_house how big is this cap?
14:04 RifRaf the servos are on the ISP
14:04 RifRaf rifraf.dyndns.org/images/servo6.jpg
14:04 rue_house are the servos on regulated voltage?
14:04 RifRaf they are in the lower left on either side of the reg
14:04 RifRaf nope
14:05 RifRaf C105
14:05 rue_house http://rifraf.dyndns.org/images/servo6.jpg
14:05 rue_house their all 105
14:06 rue_house 1uF
14:06 RifRaf ok, will replace them when i can find a few
14:06 rue_house which one blows?
14:06 RifRaf for now i get a nice 5V even with 6 servos on
14:07 rue_house the servos are powered directly from the incomming power, not via the regulaor, right?
14:07 RifRaf R#, the one on the 5V side of the reg popped off, the one on the 7V side shorted, and the reg was then putting out 1.2v
14:07 RifRaf thats correct, its only a 100mA reg
14:08 RifRaf the servos have been going from side to side all night, flattened 2 sets of batteries, its ok if i am not flashing it
14:08 RifRaf 6 full size servos, about 1.2A draw max
14:08 rue_house I wonder if they are 6V caps
14:08 RifRaf and the avr was still on this morning when the battery was 3v
14:09 rue_house too bad you dont have the spec on them anymore
14:09 RifRaf will go find some and read the lael, they are 15V from memory
14:09 rue_house huh
14:09 rue_house if they are 15V it should be impossable to blow them
14:10 RifRaf rue another thing that could maybe be issue. was feeding the avr servo pwm code for 1Mhz but chip is set to 16Mhz, could the slower pwm cause an issue maybe?
14:10 RifRaf the servos were just jittering and seemed to draw more power than when i fixed the code for 16Mhz
14:11 RifRaf did you see the schematic, i cannot really see an issue becides the pin sharing between servos and isp
14:12 rue_house not a power issue
14:12 rue_house but its power isn't related
14:12 RifRaf i thought it might be givving the servos a crazy signal when flashing
14:13 RifRaf because i can flash it fine with no servos connected, but connect them and flash and i can make magic smoke every time
14:13 rue_house yes, but nothing that servo can draw power wise can cause that cap to blow
14:13 RifRaf i can see the current draw go from 50mA to like 1.8A
14:13 rue_house because the power dosn't come from that cap
14:14 rue_house but that servo has nothing to do with the 1.8A
14:14 RifRaf using a regulated desktop power supply
14:14 rue_house er that regulater
14:15 rue_house their as related as your wipers are to the infaltion of your rear tire
14:15 RifRaf blows on battery too, but at least i can see voltage and current draw with the proper sully
14:15 RifRaf there is a connection
14:15 rue_house you might as well be saying when you flick the windor wipers on and off really fast your rear right tire goes flat
14:15 rue_house hmmm
14:16 RifRaf no rue, i can program the chip without servos, and i can start programming with servos on, but by the time it gets to verify the heat and smoke appears
14:16 RifRaf no smoke with no servos
14:16 rue_house can you load down the servos with nothing blowing
14:16 rue_house thats what I'm saying the servos are pulling more power, which is compleetely unrelated to the avrs power supply
14:17 RifRaf only way to not blow something is remove all servos before flashing, i proved that last night
14:17 rue_house if you take off your tire while you flick the wipers on and off really fast, the tire dosn't go flat :)
14:17 RifRaf the one time i forgot again smoke started appearing, but i got it in time, the regulator still working
14:17 rue_house mmm I dont get it
14:17 RifRaf am just happy the rest of the board is still ok, is the only one i have made up
14:18 rue_house yep
14:18 RifRaf not do i, but i have a workaround that seems ok
14:18 rue_house do you still have your etching setup?
14:18 RifRaf yes but not setup
14:18 RifRaf i need to make a tiptoes board soon, the old ones have gone green and traces wearing out
14:18 e_house hangs a sign by the window wiper control "dont turn on and off rapidly without first removing rear right t
14:19 rue_house have any etchant left?
14:19 RifRaf yeah its like that
14:19 RifRaf yes
14:20 RifRaf rue, i want to test serial coms from avr to pc as well as avr to avr
14:20 rue_house ok
14:20 RifRaf so can i leave the max232 on the pcb above and just tap into the rx and tx with a few wires to go to the other avr
14:20 rue_house remember to cross over the rx and tx
14:21 rue_house and connect grounds togethor
14:21 RifRaf yep
14:21 rue_house if they both have the rs232, just use that
14:21 RifRaf ok will find the hello world example and start sending that repeatedly
14:22 RifRaf ah yes they do bother have a max232 on the boards
14:22 RifRaf seems like i put on on just about every pcb i made :)
14:22 rue_house well there :)
14:23 RifRaf yay pc still has a normal serial port
14:24 RifRaf rue i need to get one avr dedicated to text2speech, and send messages from the avr avr that tell me whats going on
14:24 rue_house so it looks like I have about 10 micro atx machines with 12V power supplies...
14:24 rue_house txt2 speech on an avr eh?
14:24 RifRaf can get the text2speech working on any avr i have tryed, you need to make a talking avr rue
14:24 RifRaf yeah its pretty cool stuff
14:24 rue_house what software?
14:25 RifRaf i can send you a hex file if you just want to test
14:25 RifRaf webbotlibs
14:25 rue_house ah
14:25 rue_house I'll hold off for right now
14:25 rue_house I'm trying not to go to sleep
14:25 RifRaf http://webbot.org.uk/WebbotLibDocs/39854.html
14:25 rue_house its taking all my energy
14:32 RifRaf sleep won eh?
14:36 rue_house no I'm sitting here exerting all my energy staying awake
14:36 Tom_itx you been having problems with that lately
14:36 Tom_itx what's up with that?
14:37 rue_house dunno
14:37 rue_house I should go work on the reprap or soemting
14:37 RifRaf rue have a look http://rifraf.dyndns.org/images/project.jpg
14:37 RifRaf thats doing the hardware setup for avr, so much smarter
14:39 rue_house heh, cool approach
14:39 RifRaf i can just disable a device with a tick if i want the pin for something else etc
14:40 RifRaf can setup the lcd on any i/o pins in any order , just use wats free
14:42 RifRaf setup your own board with a simple image and draging i/o to it, that it knows what you have available, conflicts are made obvious, i am sold as you can tell
14:44 rue_house :)
14:52 RifRaf hrm, ok the regulator gets hot and smelly just from being plugged into the isp power, no servos attached
14:54 RifRaf it must not like having more than 100mA on the output side?
14:55 RifRaf heh still putting out 5V, have made this one smoke twice now and still working
15:19 rue_bed hahah, one of the few things I can think to do with all these microatx machines is tuo install them in 1U servers, gutting the dual xeon processors that re in them
15:19 rue_bed I could make som ereally nice quiet lightweight servers
15:20 rue_bed gut a dual 2.4G xeon for a 266Mhz microatx
15:20 rue_bed hahahah
15:22 rue_bed hmm I could prolly turn the vcr case I been saving into the jukebox I been saving it for
15:22 rue_bed currently the jukebox is a P100
15:23 rue_bed the fileserver is a p150
15:24 rue_bed i wonder if I could put the pcb station on one of those
15:24 RifRaf avr to pc working over a serial to usb cable
15:48 RifRaf just found heaps more blank pcbs for all these avrs so hopefully can fix the power issue, but cannot find a serial cable or even male db9 connectors anywhere :/
15:48 RifRaf gotta get the dual 40A motor driver boards working as well still
16:06 RifRaf anyone could help me with a line or 2 of code to listen to the rx port and send it to the text2speech?
16:07 RifRaf this is a raw example that is speaking at the moment http://pastebin.com/1CrKhMn7
16:08 RifRaf http://webbot.org.uk/WebbotLibDocs/39854.html
16:09 RifRaf i can send to the serial port with PRINTF(stdout,"Button 1 Pressed\n");
16:10 rue_shop2 :)
16:12 RifRaf i know it seems like nothing to you
16:12 fRaf keeps looking for db9 cable or connec
16:17 RifRaf rue, those caps are tantalum 1uF 16V smd, just found the package
16:23 Tom_itx you got them for rs232 converters didn't you?
16:23 RifRaf yes i have about 100 female, not a single male one
16:24 RifRaf found so many rs232 convertors, anyone want one?
16:24 Tom_itx i meant the caps
16:24 RifRaf yes same ones i use for them
16:24 Tom_itx i have a few converters left as well
16:24 RifRaf so have lots of spares
16:26 RifRaf will solder a couple on in a bit
16:57 RifRaf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF0JOjMsUPk
17:06 RifRaf found an old serial mouse cable, hopefully has the right 4 pins
17:12 RifRaf no such luck, must not be from a mouse
17:15 RifRaf i'll just poke header pins into the socket and breadboard them together
17:20 shuggans Rue: on?
17:22 shuggans RifRaf: my brother found the original relays from the chair?
17:22 GuShH theBear: Oh god! the voice actor for cleveland is WHITE
17:22 GuShH WHAT THE HELL
17:23 RifRaf shuggans good one, should be perfect match then
17:23 shuggans it will tell me about the motors at least :)
17:24 shuggans Rif: http://www.texasindustrialelectric.com/relays_0332209137.asp
17:25 shuggans there are 4 of them stuck together
17:25 shuggans 87 is to turn on/off right?
17:25 RifRaf yep 50a max, just wat you want
17:26 RifRaf yeah it swaps between 87a and 87 when 85 to 86 is energised
17:27 RifRaf 85 86 is what you turn on/off to switch it
17:27 shuggans http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0005.jpg
17:28 RifRaf cool
17:28 RifRaf did you see me little video shuggans?
17:28 shuggans keep existing wiring?
17:28 shuggans No I havnt
17:29 RifRaf it would be usefull if you have connectors that match
17:29 RifRaf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF0JOjMsUPk
17:30 shuggans lol - wth?!
17:30 RifRaf thats me desk at the moment, i need some help to get an avr listening on the rx port and sending it to the text2speech, maybe you could help me later
17:30 shuggans sounds good :)
17:31 RifRaf will just be one line of code to do with stdin i am guessing
17:31 shuggans yeah - We can figure it out
17:32 shuggans want my rx/tx code from mine?
17:32 RifRaf but coding is where i hit brick walls, old brain, i just like making things
17:32 RifRaf no i have these new libraries, but will still be standard
17:32 RifRaf i can send already from the on avr
17:32 shuggans ah - yeah we'll take a look
17:32 RifRaf and see it on my computer terminal
17:32 shuggans just need to break out the receive
17:32 shuggans ?
17:33 RifRaf ok, am still breadboarding a few wires to connect them
17:33 RifRaf this is the code that is speaking in that video http://pastebin.com/1CrKhMn7
17:34 shuggans so it's a txt to speech library?
17:34 RifRaf yep for avr
17:34 shuggans sweet!
17:35 RifRaf is pretty intensive though so seems easiest to just have it on its own avr
17:35 RifRaf and send it the text via rs232
17:36 RifRaf and also print the text to the connected lcd as well
17:36 shuggans http://visuafusion.com/robotics/numbarobotics.png
17:37 shuggans yeah. Thats pretty sweet man
17:37 shuggans I made the above last night btw
17:37 shuggans for signatures or whatever
17:37 RifRaf cool
17:38 shuggans are you guys in US?
17:38 shuggans or elsewhere?
17:38 RifRaf nah
17:38 RifRaf australia
17:38 shuggans and rue?
17:38 RifRaf east coast of NSW
17:39 shuggans NSW?
17:39 RifRaf New South Wales, is the state
17:39 RifRaf hes a canuck
17:40 shuggans Ahhh
17:40 shuggans I'm in southwest Nebraska USA :P
17:41 Triffid_Hunter I'm in NSW as well
17:41 shuggans cool stuff - I find non-US are more apt to teach/help others
17:41 RifRaf heh
17:41 shuggans not sure what it is. Most US are all take and no give.
17:42 shuggans well - if spellings seem different to me now: I know why :P
17:43 shuggans BOSCH is prbably a super good relay right?
17:43 Triffid_Hunter dunno, haven't used a relay in years
17:43 shuggans german engineering
17:45 shuggans so - am I right on these relays then: pos lead on power source to 87, negative to 87a ?
17:47 RifRaf no
17:48 shuggans it APEARS as if that's how it was wired :S
17:49 RifRaf the negative does not go on the relay, just positive from battery to 30 and 87 to the motor, but i think rue is making some kind of h-bidge with you
17:49 shuggans has red wires all ganged together on 87
17:49 RifRaf when you apply power to 85/86 it switches to 87 and the motor turns because power flows through the relay
17:49 shuggans and 87a is tied together on the left two, and sperately ganged together ontthe right 2
17:51 RifRaf yes to make a h-bridge i imagine
17:51 RifRaf so the motors can go forward/backward
17:57 shuggans rif: is this basic concept right or am I way off?
17:57 shuggans http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0007.jpg
17:58 shuggans revised: http://www.visuafusion.com/robotics/IMAG0008.jpg
17:59 RifRaf theres no mosfet
18:00 RifRaf this is to make 2 motors go forwards/backwards, no variable speed
18:00 shuggans to stop it completely?
18:01 RifRaf you will have the relays connected to two switches
18:01 RifRaf they will have 3 positions each, forwards, backwards and center will be stopped
18:01 shuggans I cant use the mosfets as switches?
18:02 RifRaf if you use mosfets you don't need relays
18:02 shuggans this is for RC
18:02 RifRaf is 2 different ways to achieve the same thing, though when you do mosfets you will get variable speed with pwm etc
18:02 RifRaf you wanted to do it the hard way
18:02 shuggans I know - i think since this is m first electronics dealing rue is having me do this to make it easier
18:03 RifRaf one step at a time :)
18:03 RifRaf using the relays and switches will teach you how a h-bridge works, better to smoke them than your electronics
18:04 shuggans I have the rest of the electronics - there is a dial knob. maybe for speed control?
18:04 RifRaf maybe
18:04 RifRaf i'd say a wheelchair would need some form of speed control :)
18:05 RifRaf or people might get more hurt than they already are
18:05 shuggans its on the peice with the joystick. there's a volume style dial
18:05 shuggans :P
18:06 shuggans goal is to have this sthing start slow up to max automatically when moving either direction.
18:06 shuggans any way to get that with this relay h bridge?
18:07 RifRaf no till you get basic forwards backwards mastered i think
18:08 RifRaf rue has funny teaching methods but they seem to work
18:08 shuggans :P
18:08 RifRaf shuggans i think this code is some clue, does it mean anything to you http://pastebin.com/Rnk6SFQN
18:08 shuggans so then---is my drawing without the mosfets correct?
18:09 RifRaf yeah i think so
18:09 RifRaf you need switches though
18:09 RifRaf or that would just short out
18:10 RifRaf actually thats not right, but wait for rue
18:10 shuggans kk
18:11 shuggans I have no clue what that code is rif
18:11 shuggans Im new to C++
18:12 shuggans this is what you are trying to do?
18:12 RifRaf yeah same, well i think uartGetByte(UART* uart) does it
18:12 RifRaf but i need to get that into a line of real code
18:13 shuggans where is your loop?
18:14 RifRaf this is the main code, the loop has a comment where it starts http://pastebin.com/1CrKhMn7
18:15 RifRaf i have nothing to do with the uart in there yet, just need to learn what to type
18:15 RifRaf the hardware is initialised though and ready i believe
18:17 RifRaf you need to learn this anyway so you get recieve commands on your avr do drive your motors over rs232
18:18 RifRaf http://webbot.org.uk/WebbotLibDocs/27196.html
18:21 RifRaf lol, the canadians printed an imported invasive leaf instead of a maple on there new money :)
18:26 RifRaf the rx led on the atmega32 is lighting up when i send data so connection is good
18:47 shuggans yes I do
18:47 shuggans and have written my code already
18:47 shuggans through softwareserial
18:47 shuggans hold up...
18:48 shuggans rif: http://pastebin.com/FWyJehQz
18:48 RifRaf i am at least getting some error displayed on the lcd
18:50 shuggans that's all the arduino code I will need. unless I do speed stff throguh the microcontroller (no clue abt pwm)
18:50 Tom_itx and you didn't read the link i posted either did you?
18:51 shuggans I started to read some of it. Fiance started getting a bit angry bc I was zonign in to other things :P
18:51 shuggans I get the concept. You pulse the motor instead of full on or off
18:53 shuggans Rif: did you see how I'm doing it?
18:55 shuggans this was used with a dual h bridge controller board
18:55 shuggans l298n
18:55 shuggans with 2 dc motors
19:23 ProgramMax hey guys. I have a question about motors
19:23 ProgramMax http://www.linengineering.com/LinE/contents/stepmotors/5704.aspx
19:23 ProgramMax the 2.17" has 3 varieties. All have the same holding torque
19:24 ProgramMax the difference is the amp/phase, resistance, and inductance
19:24 ProgramMax I understand holding torque. But I don't understand the others well enough to know when I would choose one over another
19:42 RifRaf time for a break, hate this :/
20:27 rue_house ProgramMax, it'll effect speed
20:27 rue_house and system design
20:28 rue_house RifRaf, whats up?
20:28 ProgramMax Mind if I ask more about it? How it effects speed?
20:30 RifRaf ruehouse i just want to read to rx data as a word and send it to the lcd or text2speech
20:32 RifRaf this compiles but does the avr just talks rubbish and throws in the number 6 occasionally
20:32 RifRaf http://pastebin.com/FaSYbwTr
20:33 rue_house ok
20:33 rue_house so, we need to do the debug thing
20:33 rue_house have it send the
20:33 rue_house !assist tutorials/
20:33 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/
20:34 rue_house http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/elex/commdebug.html
20:34 rue_house the letter U repeatedly
20:35 rue_house someone should make an i2c or twi to usb serial dongle so that baud rates are completely done away with
20:37 RifRaf both avrs are sending correct text to the putty on computer
20:38 RifRaf i just dunno how to recieve on them, last time with tiptoes we used a command line interface to send words
20:38 RifRaf this should be so basic for anyone like you
20:38 rue_house and now you want to send binary?
20:38 rue_house I'm not 100% on what your up to
20:38 RifRaf no
20:38 rue_house start with the big pic
20:38 RifRaf text from one avr and recieve it and print to lcd on another
20:38 rue_house last I knew you had tow avr you wanted to talk
20:39 rue_house ok
20:39 RifRaf well when i can print to the lcd the text2speech is done too, just wanted to keep it simple
20:39 rue_house to answer this I'm gonna have to learn that library your using arnt' I?
20:39 RifRaf yes, and its so easy, i can send you the links
20:39 rue_house I already looked at them
20:40 rue_house dont really want to learn antoher system right now
20:40 rue_house :/
20:40 rue_house show me the code you have, maybe I can monkey the fix
20:40 rue_house http://paste.debian.net/
20:41 RifRaf http://pastebin.com/FaSYbwTr
20:41 RifRaf i don't think i am turning the chars into any sort of word string, but i really don't have a clue
20:42 rue_house how does rprintchar know to go to lcd and not back to serial?
20:43 RifRaf its setup as default in the hardware.h
20:43 RifRaf i can set rprint to be display or uart
20:44 rue_house ok, does that code work when its hooked to the pc?
20:46 RifRaf no
20:46 rue_house ok, how about if you comment out the text to speech part
20:47 RifRaf but if i do PRINTF(stdout,"Button 1 Pressed\n"); it prints to the terminal windows, i just cannot get data from the rx
20:48 rue_house did you try it with the text to speech line disabled?
20:48 RifRaf still no
20:48 rue_house ok
20:48 rue_house hmm
20:48 rue_house what do you get it you have it send 'U' continiously to the serial port?
20:49 RifRaf my code is just cut and pasted from someone elses problem code
20:49 RifRaf so i know its not correct
20:49 rue_house ok, get the avr to repeatedly send 'U' and make sure it recieves ok on the pc
20:50 rue_house then you know all the clocks and baud rates are 100% right
20:50 RifRaf http://webbot.org.uk/WebbotLibDocs2/46000.html
20:51 rue_house on - Re-initialise a UART after it has been turned off.
20:51 rue_house they dont say if it initilizes to on or off
20:51 RifRaf ok u u u etc on screen now with this command PRINTF(stdout,"u ");
20:51 rue_house ok
20:51 RifRaf rue my issue is rx, tx is working sir
20:51 rue_house technically U
20:51 rue_house because U is 01010101
20:52 rue_house anyhow
20:52 rue_house that still proves it
20:52 RifRaf well i can uppercase it then, brb
20:52 rue_house nono, your fine
20:52 rue_house if you dont see any errors its proven its point
20:52 RifRaf ok now i have capital U's
20:53 rue_house mind if I completely rewrite that code?
20:53 RifRaf not at all
20:53 RifRaf if you use the same names should all work
20:54 RifRaf i am thinking uartGetByte only gets a character, but i want a whole word
20:54 rue_house is rprintf to the serial port?
20:55 RifRaf yes, but i can auto change it to lcd
20:55 RifRaf or speech
20:55 rue_house no I'm just needing to know that it is or not
20:55 RifRaf it is now yes
20:56 RifRaf and errors are directed to uart as well
20:57 ProgramMax So my thought is the higher amp, lower inductance motors are sort of more agile? Faster to start / stop
20:57 ProgramMax is that close?
20:58 rue_house if you want speed use a dc motor
20:58 ProgramMax what I really want is accuracy and feedback :)
20:59 ProgramMax just trying to understand the differences between these motors
20:59 rue_house how much accuracy
20:59 ProgramMax as much as possible. For a CNC mill
20:59 rue_house aaah
20:59 rue_house ask Tom_itx
20:59 ProgramMax Tom is a buddy of mine. :D Wish he was here at the moment
21:00 rue_house RifRaf, I'm still rewriting
21:01 RifRaf thanks, still trying 'stuff'
21:01 rue_house your mixing C and c++
21:02 RifRaf yes very possible, i need c++
21:02 rue_house I cant find proper C examples
21:04 rue_house http://webbot.org.uk/WebbotLibDocs/34597.html
21:04 rue_house maybe you should go back a few steps and get some hello world like stuff working with the lcd and text2speech
21:04 rue_house I'm really confused why it looks like it takes a page of code to set up the lcd
21:04 rue_house I think your interface writes a bunch of that stuff but I havn't a clue
21:05 rue_house I usually do things myself specifically because I dont like magic
21:06 rue_house file and stream are BAD words when working with microcontrollers
21:07 rue_house RifRaf, http://paste.debian.net/226624/
21:07 rue_house you want something more like that
21:07 rue_house but its still an incomplete mix of C and C++
21:08 RifRaf ok this should be plain c++ its speaks a U repeatedly and prints U's to the lcd http://pastebin.com/hJCsV0dS
21:08 RifRaf nothing to talk to the serial port and get data
21:09 rue_house a uart has to be created, I dont know what does that
21:09 rue_house what you have there is just c++
21:09 RifRaf line 2 is not needed anymore
21:09 rue_house it never was
21:09 RifRaf k
21:09 RifRaf its gone
21:09 rue_house see my paste?
21:10 rue_house see what I'm doing?
21:10 rue_house I'm using the main loop to check and see if there was a character, if there was, I'm reading and processing it
21:10 RifRaf missed it sorry, i sha;ll try it now
21:11 RifRaf hah i need line 2 back
21:11 rue_house I'm gonna migrate to the shop
21:12 RifRaf doesn't like .read or .isbusy and stuff, guess i need to find the compatible terms?
21:13 rue_shop2 yea, you ref'd me to the c++
21:13 rue_shop2 I dunno
21:13 rue_shop2 I cant find equiv for C
21:15 RifRaf but c++ is correct isn't it?
21:15 RifRaf when i output the project i can choose just c, but am choosing c++
21:16 Tom_itx why are you wanting c++ ?
21:16 Tom_itx i've often wondered where it fit in the world
21:16 RifRaf well the libs seem to be more that way
21:17 RifRaf its just a checkbox, and says it needs version 2 of webbotlibs which i have, so i figured it must be better
21:18 ProgramMax oh hey, Tom
21:18 ProgramMax I could use your help with another motor question
21:18 ProgramMax http://www.linengineering.com/LinE/contents/stepmotors/5704.aspx
21:18 rue_shop2 c++ is better for writing university projects and gui systems
21:18 ProgramMax notice the 2.17" motor there comes in 3 varieties
21:19 rue_shop2 I'm not gonna ream ya out about it, but c++ isn't for small microcontrollers
21:19 ProgramMax the differences being amp/phase, resistance, and inductance
21:19 ProgramMax all three have the same holding torque
21:19 Tom_itx i'm no genius on motor specs
21:19 e_shop2 rebuilds the robot... a
21:20 Tom_itx i'd look at the torque curves on all of them
21:20 Tom_itx see what range suits you best
21:20 Tom_itx what are you looking for?
21:20 ProgramMax motors for a CNC mill :D
21:21 ProgramMax if you remember from long ago
21:21 Tom_itx how big a mill?
21:21 ProgramMax eventually, huge
21:21 ProgramMax like 3' x 3' x 1'
21:21 ProgramMax accuracy is the most important thing to me, though. So I went for the smallest step size I could find
21:21 Tom_itx size depends on the mass you need to move
21:22 Tom_itx typically they're 1.8 deg
21:22 ProgramMax the mass will be a the Y and Z (fairly light) and a dremel tool (not so light)
21:22 Tom_itx alot of guys will belt drive them
21:22 ProgramMax X and Y are on belts
21:22 Tom_itx get a proper spindle
21:22 Tom_itx don't try to use a dremel
21:23 Tom_itx you won't get the accuracy you expect
21:23 ProgramMax eventually I will
21:24 Tom_itx http://www.kelinginc.net/NEMA23Motor.html
21:24 Tom_itx i got mine from them
21:24 Tom_itx been pretty happy with the results
21:24 ProgramMax why did you go for the lower step size?
21:24 Tom_itx i got #3
21:24 Tom_itx for my sherline
21:25 Tom_itx it's plenty accurate at 1.8
21:25 Tom_itx 200 steps per rev divided by the lead screw pitch
21:25 Tom_itx mulitplied*
21:26 Tom_itx i end up with 40000 steps per inch
21:26 ProgramMax if you look very closely at something milled, is it amazingly smooth or noticable?
21:26 ProgramMax 40k is pretty good :D
21:26 Tom_itx the geckos do 10 step microstepping
21:27 Tom_itx so factor that in too
21:27 Tom_itx so 200 * 20 * 10
21:27 Tom_itx 200 is the steps per rev, 20 is the screw pitch, 10 is the microstepping
21:27 ProgramMax What do you mean by the screw pitch
21:27 Tom_itx 20 threads per inch
21:27 RifRaf rue_house have changed the code to C now, would that help?
21:28 Tom_itx i'd suggest ballscrews because they have far less friction than acme or regular threads
21:28 ProgramMax I'm not entirely sure what screw you are talking about
21:28 Tom_itx the screw that drives the axis
21:29 Tom_itx don't use belt drive on a mill
21:29 Tom_itx unless it's a damn heavy belt
21:29 ProgramMax k, that might be my next change :D
21:29 Tom_itx it's nothing like reprap
21:29 ProgramMax I will move to screw next. Right now it is setup with a belt
21:29 Tom_itx they have no force on their axis to speak of
21:29 ProgramMax http://www.shapeoko.com/
21:30 ProgramMax my Z is a screw but X and Y are a belt
21:30 ProgramMax (I got only their hardware kit)
21:30 Tom_itx ok for drilling but not milling
21:30 Tom_itx due to the side forces
21:30 Tom_itx you won't get any accuracy from it
21:31 ProgramMax I think I follow. Like, as the drill is being pushed along the material, that material is pushing back
21:31 Tom_itx you'll need alot more beefy frame for milling too
21:31 ProgramMax and a belt will give
21:31 Tom_itx yes
21:31 ProgramMax so it doesn't put as much force onto the material
21:31 ProgramMax well, let me slowly upgrade it once it is working
21:31 Tom_itx the belts will stretch
21:31 ProgramMax screws eventually
21:31 ProgramMax but my thought it, get good parts as I upgrade each
21:32 ProgramMax like, a good motor so I don't have to upgrade it again later
21:32 Tom_itx jt is using very similar steppers on his plasma table
21:32 Tom_itx same drives
21:32 Tom_itx same basic torque different brand
21:37 theBear fwoof, that was a big one... had to fiddle some stuff in the projector i been working on, caught site of one dusty barely accessible lens, which led to seeing another, which led to removing a cover, etc etc... but i did remove a LOT of dust and a couple lenses/dichroic bits that must be right in the air-path were REALLY dirty, cloudy like a dirty window, or maybe something near a fan in a house with a heavy smoker :)
21:37 Tom_itx ProgramMax, what's the cost of the ones you're looking at?
21:37 ProgramMax of the ...motors? Controllers?
21:38 ProgramMax not sure about those motors but I think they are $300 a piece
21:38 ProgramMax a little less
21:38 ProgramMax quite a lot
21:39 Tom_itx ?
21:39 Tom_itx holy crap
21:39 Tom_itx mine were $49 ea
21:39 Tom_itx $39
21:39 ProgramMax well, these are 4x the accuracy
21:39 Tom_itx not worth it
21:39 ProgramMax hrmm suppose you are right
21:39 Tom_itx you got alot more things taking away from the accuracy than the motors
21:41 Tom_itx spend what you save on the gecko 203v's
21:41 Tom_itx and a good supply for them
21:41 ProgramMax mmm yeah, good thinkin'
21:48 Tom_itx original batmobile just went on barret jackson for 4.2 million
21:50 theBear good god ! that thing looked shitty way back when it was new :)
21:50 Tom_itx it was a plymouth concept car originally
21:51 Tom_itx i think
21:51 Tom_itx never been sold - 1 owner
21:52 Tom_itx i just wish i had that much play money
22:07 ShH oOoOO( if I had over 4 million I wouldn't put them on a shit c
22:33 rue_shop2 ++
23:07 shuggans Hey all
23:08 shuggans rue: active?
23:20 shuggans rif: figure out your code? sorry passed out - think i may be getting the flu finally. suprised Ive lasted this long (work @ a hospital)
23:20 RifRaf no :(
23:21 shuggans did you look @ how im doing my serial rx/tx?
23:21 RifRaf i am gonna rea dthis page line by line slowly again http://webbot.org.uk/WebbotLibDocs2/46000.html
23:22 RifRaf yes but it makes no sense, the arduinos do it all different
23:23 shuggans Which arduino do you have?
23:23 shuggans or you made your own microcontroller board?
23:24 shuggans I talk to the arduino from a PC through a serial port using a TTL converter board (MAX232 chip)
23:24 shuggans do you have this?
23:25 Tom_itx he does
23:25 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: ours have a usb port which exposes a usb-serial interface
23:26 Triffid_Hunter haven't seen a real serial port for many years
23:26 shuggans trif: the microncontroller board USB port?
23:27 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: yep
23:27 shuggans Mine does too, though im only using it for debug/upload of new code
23:27 shuggans you can do the same through serial instead of software serial in the code
23:28 shuggans am worried he is trying to do EVERYTHING through the lib when it is not necessary
23:29 shuggans libs can make some things easier / do some things for you so you dont have to handle them - but it doesnt mean you HAVE to stick expressly to that lib's functions etc
23:29 shuggans Is he running the arduino bootloader?
23:30 Triffid_Hunter heh I avoid arduino libraries
23:30 shuggans I just got into microcontrollers etc.
23:31 shuggans But have programmed for a long time
23:32 shuggans How do you use the microcontroller without?
23:32 Tom_itx without what?
23:32 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: avr-libc lives beneath the arduino madness and works quite well
23:32 Tom_itx just write code in c or asm and compile and run it
23:33 shuggans I see
23:33 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: see github.com/triffid/Teacup_Firmware for some examples of code that runs on arduino but doesn't use arduino libraries
23:33 rue_shop2 almost done complete overhaul on the robot
23:34 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: interestingly, the two most popular reprap firmwares now use my fastio routines which are massively faster than arduino's digitalWrite
23:34 rue_shop2 shuggans, looks like your on the right track
23:35 shuggans sweet - I have the mosfets in the right place?
23:35 Jak_o_Shadows Dunno why repraps/etc use arduinos. You'd think they'd just go for the cheapest
23:35 Triffid_Hunter shuggans: teacup also has the only serial library I've seen for avr8 that supports XON/XOFF flow control
23:35 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows: I'm currently working on cortex-m3 firmware for repraps
23:35 Jak_o_Shadows cheapest
23:36 Jak_o_Shadows Nah, but you'd think they'd go for the most available, cheapest thing. The arduino is not that, at least not here
23:36 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows: curious as to what you have in mind that's cheaper while at the same time has enough cpu power to do the job?
23:36 Rif 11. The receive character UART buffer has overflowed. Try increasing it.
23:36 shuggans rif: set your buffer to 0
23:37 shuggans or whatever the unlimited settign is
23:37 shuggans setting*
23:37 Rif 0 eh. ok
23:37 Rif am trying 250 at moment
23:37 Rif was 50
23:37 shuggans so anything received over 250 bytes will overflow
23:37 shuggans 0 causes it to not buffer at all
23:37 Jak_o_Shadows Triffid_Hunter: Something dumb that takes commands from a computer? A raw atmega? Rpi
23:37 Triffid_Hunter only if you don't drain the buffer while it's receiving
23:38 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows: reprap pushes the avr8 core to the very limit of its ability, with numerous optimisations just to get the motors to turn properly
23:38 Triffid_Hunter Jak_o_Shadows: RPi doesn't have the hard realtime ability to generate suitable pulse trains for the steppers, you'd get waay too much jitter
23:38 Rif 250 did not help, i wonder why i needs so much
23:39 shuggans what are you sending it?
23:40 Rif if(button0.pressed()){
23:40 Rif PRINTF(stdout,"Button 0 Pressed\n");
23:40 Rif but it repeats if i hold the button down
23:41 shuggans Is that when the overflow happens?
23:41 Rif i'll change to a single char
23:41 Rif yes when i press the button, then have to restart avr
23:41 Rif i am pressing the button on a separate avr
23:42 shuggans place an if statement inside your if statement. after openning the first if and before the second, set some value to true. the second if statement checks if that value is already true and only carries out your code if it is not
23:42 shuggans keeps from repeating this way.
23:42 shuggans want sudo code?
23:42 rue_shop2 shuggans, hold up, I'm overmultitasking
23:43 shuggans lol - no worries rue. I will try and help rif for a few
23:43 Rif yes any code is helpful, i just cannot follow the logic of code yet
23:43 shuggans can you send me the code you have?
23:45 Rif yes will pastebin both
23:45 rue_shop2 shuggans, you have that wiring wrong tho
23:45 shuggans rue: that is existing wiring - didnt know if I should gut it for my purposes
23:46 rue_shop2 yea, its messed up
23:46 Rif controller that sends a command when button pressed, now a simple U http://pastebin.com/h4annFmn
23:47 Rif receiver http://pastebin.com/agTHsk6B atmega168
