00:46 rue_shop3 it'd need a lot of modding
00:46 rue_shop3 it would come out a bit big
00:55 rue_shop3 my -12V inverter didn't work for buddy, I should work out how much current it wants
03:58 rue_shop3 I just figured out why I'm groggy! its 2am!
04:01 rue_shop3 2am isn't good to make leds flash

10:10 Tom_L google to take over the world
10:11 Tom_L rue_house, you'd better get on the ball
11:59 rue_house meh
12:31 Tom_itx my desk is finally completely clear of paper piles
14:22 rue_house :)
14:24 Tom_itx so one 'meh' and one ':)'. that's the best you got?
15:27 rue_house that sucks
15:27 rue_house had two lockups, I think my machine has a ram problem
15:28 rue_house and on the last one, firefox didn't have a tab recover, which means all the stuff I had open ....
15:35 KimLaroux rue_house: you can always go hunt it down in history, if you can't remember what it was

17:25 ambro718 where can I get a cheap sonar for distance measurement?
17:26 Tom_itx an old polaroid instamatic camera
17:27 ambro718 don't have one. Can't I just buy one in an electronics store or something?
17:28 Tom_itx you said cheap
17:29 ambro718 I'm searching Farnell and the cheapest one is £158.01. Hell, I can get a whole Lego NXT package for $300 something which includes an ultrasonic sensor.
17:29 ambro718 why is this so expensive?
17:32 Tom_itx http://acroname.com/robotics/parts/R145-SRF08.html
17:32 ambro718 huh, looks good, thanks. Still kind of expensive though.
17:33 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/largebot/largebot_index.php
17:33 Tom_itx that one had a polaroid on it
17:33 Tom_itx on a servo
17:35 ambro718 about this first link you gave me, is this a complete solution that just gives me distance?
17:35 ambro718 or just a transmitter/receiver I'd have to drive manually?
17:37 ambro718 ah it has a controller on board, the docs is nice
17:43 Tom_itx i'm not sure, mine were older units
17:43 Tom_itx i had to ping and wait for reply on them
17:45 ambro718 what do you mean? This says it's i2c, I'm guessing I'll be able to handle that.
17:49 Tom_itx my interface was different on mine but the same sonars
18:43 Tom_itx rue_house, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e7yy9u6QmA
18:49 Tom_itx rue_house, how is the string wired in that video?
18:50 KimLaroux Nice, same motors for two things
18:51 KimLaroux notice the rotation of the motors and how it affect movements
18:52 KimLaroux oposite sides moves the tray, same sides moves the load
18:56 KimLaroux Ah I just figured it
18:56 KimLaroux clever
18:58 KimLaroux the only attachment point is at the carriage
19:01 Tom_itx i'd like to see how the string is routed
19:01 Tom_itx and what keeps it tensioned
19:01 KimLaroux he's got a tensionner
19:05 Tom_itx i also see no simultanious x y movement either
19:06 rue_shop3 :) my chinese tablet arrived,w orks great
19:06 rue_shop3 gonna see if I can get it running a robot here
19:08 KimLaroux he could in software
19:09 KimLaroux http://postimage.org/image/kxhjigu5x/
19:10 KimLaroux the green dot is the only attachment point
19:10 KimLaroux turn the motor in opposite direction for up and down
19:11 KimLaroux move them in the same direction for left and right
19:11 KimLaroux You just need a tensionner at the attachment point
19:12 rue_shop3 someone I know must be close
19:12 rue_shop3 wifi network "rcmp surveylance van 2" is in range
19:13 KimLaroux hahaha
19:13 rue_shop3 that looks fine
19:13 rue_shop3 good ole cable job
19:14 KimLaroux yeah, reminds you of FM radios
19:14 rue_shop3 ok, I need a machine for the robot running apache
19:15 rue_shop3 did you make that ir was it part of soemthing?
19:15 rue_shop3 or both :)
19:16 KimLaroux I didn't make it... I just drew the lines over the snapshop
19:21 rue_shop3 hahahahaha the miniitx machine for the mowerbot dosn't have linux on it, its got DOS 6.22
19:21 rue_shop3 hmmm
19:22 Tom_itx so it's a continuous loop string
19:22 rue_shop3 it boots fast!
19:22 Tom_itx i bet
19:22 rue_shop3 but no webserver support :(
19:22 Tom_itx novell :D
19:23 Tom_itx KimLaroux, would it make it more stable if you looped around the y axis bearings?
19:23 Tom_itx or would that matter
19:25 rue_shop3 grrr
19:25 rue_shop3 a 2G drive with DOS, and a 512M flash card with linux
19:25 Tom_itx KimLaroux, what about a 'mainspring' type reel at the attach point?
19:25 Tom_itx or are you telling me something else?
19:55 KimLaroux Tom_itx: I would not know, I didn't design the thing
19:55 Tom_itx well i know that :)
21:39 rue_shop3 Tom_itx, do you remember the name of the linux program we used to stream images all so long ago?
21:39 rue_shop3 off linux?
21:52 Tom_itx heh
21:52 Tom_itx no
21:52 Tom_itx i know what you're talking about though
22:02 rue_shop3 camserv, its not avialable as a debian package anymore
22:03 Tom_itx vdr?
22:03 rue_shop3 it did streaming jpegs
22:03 Tom_itx records mpg streams
22:03 rue_shop3 no webcam and push mjpeg streams
22:04 Tom_itx i doubt it's in my notes either
22:05 rue_shop3 its camserv
22:05 Tom_itx it's in ubuntu
22:06 rue_shop3 yup
22:06 rue_shop3 I dont want to moof the system with a forginish package
22:07 Tom_itx http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=camserv
22:08 KimLaroux what distro do you guys you on your desktops?
22:08 KimLaroux s/you/use
22:08 Tom_itx i use debian 10.04 for linuxcnc
22:08 rue_shop3 debian
22:08 Jak_o_Shadows Win7, but sabayon linux on my netbook, and centOS on my media server
22:08 Tom_itx and debian on my server
22:08 KimLaroux debian 10.04?
22:08 Tom_itx ubuntu sry
22:08 KimLaroux =)
22:09 KimLaroux rue_shop3: which debian version?
22:09 rue_shop3 dunno, I upgrade about every 3 or 4 years when I have to change hardware
22:10 KimLaroux ah, that would kill me
22:10 KimLaroux I like to use the most up to date software
22:10 rue_shop3 I upgrade as required, its less painfull
22:10 rue_shop3 the most up to date is also the most buggy
22:10 KimLaroux eh
22:10 Triffid_Hunter I have only certain programs cutting edge, rest are stable versions
22:10 Triffid_Hunter can't do that on debian ;)
22:10 KimLaroux my experience showed the opposite
22:11 rue_shop3 debains packages are usually 2 or 3 years old anyhow
22:11 rue_shop3 they have backports to get around it
22:11 KimLaroux most of the bugs I had in "stables" and "lts" versions were "We fixed it, just use the last version"
22:13 Jak_o_Shadows Most of my problems relate to hardware support. For instance, i have to use the official propriety drivers on my netbook, and the wifi range still sucks
22:15 KimLaroux One of the main reason why I never buy new hardware =P
22:15 rue_shop3 so you dont buy hardware specifically from companies that support open source software?
22:15 KimLaroux I always buy stuff used, at least 6 months old
22:16 KimLaroux it's cheaper, and the bugs are already fixed
22:16 rue_shop3 can anyone compile camserv?
22:16 KimLaroux is it not it the repos?
22:16 Jak_o_Shadows But i have a fairly complete media server now. Wake on lan, shutdown through ssh, streaming media (not transcoding yet though),
22:16 KimLaroux it's in sid anyways http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=camserv
22:17 rue_shop3 oh its in unstable
22:17 Jak_o_Shadows Yeah, for me, linux is mostly an afterthought when buying hardware. I chose my netbook based on price/performance
22:17 KimLaroux Ah, not me
22:17 KimLaroux it's the first thought =P
22:17 Jak_o_Shadows Through, scre broadcom with a toothpick
22:19 rue_shop3 I dont mind the little bit of extra thought to get good hardware that dosn't require I be a slave to microsoft
22:20 KimLaroux +1
22:21 KimLaroux or apple
22:22 rue_shop3 damn
22:22 rue_shop3 camserv hasn't been updated since 2002
22:23 KimLaroux Woha
22:23 KimLaroux and it's still in the repos?
22:23 KimLaroux impressive
22:24 rue_shop3 no
22:24 rue_shop3 I thought it was, there is source for 8 bit avr a m68k
22:25 KimLaroux oO
22:25 rue_shop3 it causes a segfault when I try to compuile it on a pc :/
22:25 rue_shop3 I have it when they make evil changes to gcc
22:25 KimLaroux you want to setup a webcam?
22:55 rue_house !thislog
22:55 tobbor This one: http://rueshouse.dyndns.org:82/~ircjunk/irclogs/html/%23robotics-2013-01-01.html
22:55 rue_house http://rueshouse.dyndns.org:82/~ircjunk/irclogs/html/%23robotics-2012-01-01.html
22:56 rue_house I have a robot, I have a webcam, I have a wrt54g, I have a tablet pc with wifi and a web browser
22:56 rue_house I have avrs and motor drivers, and 12V batteries
22:58 rue_house how many years can I recycle a resolution?
22:59 rue_house camserv could to 1s image streams
22:59 rue_house which worked nicely
23:15 Jak_o_Shadows I'm thinking of doing somewhat similar, but i haven't got the steering idea that well, i don't have the motor drivers, and i have 1 batteyr
23:15 rue_house I'm falling asleep
23:15 rue_house damn
23:46 rue_house tractor drive
23:46 rue_house verry easy to steer
23:46 rue_house drawback is you need 2 matching drives
23:48 Tom_itx mkay, in case i don't make it to the strike, happy newyear
23:48 Jak_o_Shadows yeah, don't have that.
23:49 rue_house gnight
23:49 Jak_o_Shadows night
