13:01 rue_bed well you have to stay around long enough for an answre first
13:07 armistrar hello hello
13:08 armistrar decided to spoil myself with a lamborghini for christmas
13:08 armistrar it just rolled into the garage
13:08 armistrar http://imgur.com/a/xx56S#0
13:08 armistrar tada
13:09 armistrar its a lamborghini tractor
13:09 armistrar pretty cool, eh?
13:09 ace4016 lol
13:09 armistrar its a lambo alright
13:09 ace4016 is it the fastest tractor around?
13:09 armistrar I wouldnt say so.
13:09 armistrar its 8000 pounds.
13:10 armistrar thats 4 tons.
13:10 armistrar it doesnt look that heavy but these are all steel and iron castings
13:10 armistrar its from 68, completely restored.
13:10 armistrar these things have a lot of history.
13:10 ace4016 hehe
13:10 armistrar in fact this is probably one of the rarest lamborghinis that you could buy.
13:11 armistrar its rear wheel drive, its 4 cylinders, 84 hp
13:11 armistrar it has 12 gears, first gear is .3mph and 12th gear in high-mode is 14mph.
13:12 armistrar but the big issue with this is the two footed clutch
13:12 armistrar it takes a manly man to drive this clutch.
13:13 armistrar Most people dont know this about lamborghini but they started out as a tractor-manufactor.
13:14 armistrar Ferruccio lamborghini was in the italian airforce and and his base was captured by the allies and they discovred he was a great mechanic. and he started working in the motor pool, and after the war in 1945 he went back home to italy, back then there was a lot of alloy equipment, laying around that was broken up.
13:14 armistrar the germans destroyed most of the tractors to force the italians to depend on the germans for food - so there was a huge market hole for tractors
13:15 armistrar so he bought halftracks from old military vehicles and made them into tractor it just grew from there, he became very successful.
13:16 armistrar in about 1950-51 he started making his own engine castings like you see in this tractor
13:44 rue_house armistrar,
13:44 rue_house anyone call you 'Rush' ?
13:45 rue_house nice tractor
13:45 DagoRed that tractor is pretty awesome
13:46 rue_house it prolly looks better now than it did when it got to its first owner
13:46 DagoRed armistrar: The Lamborghini car company was started after Lamborghini purchased a Ferarri and was disappointed with it. His response was to build the car that Ferarri refused to build :)
13:46 DagoRed I can't say that Rue, I wouldn't know.
13:47 rue_house hah, thats an air cooled engine on that...
13:48 rue_house interetsing the exhaust goes down and not up
13:50 rue_house whats written there on the side?
13:51 goRed sh
13:52 armistrar the hand signature?
13:53 rue_house of the restorers?
13:58 armistrar valentino balboni joined lamborghini in 1968, he was a mechanic. all the early lamborghini cars were made in the tractor factory - so he remembers when this particular model was made, he was working on the Miuras when this particular model was designed and he remembered it.
13:59 armistrar Thats his signature right there.
13:59 armistrar Ferruccio lamborghini was working very closely on the design of these.
14:00 armistrar and he was very successful, I mean, he was a multi-millionaire long before he started lamborghini cars . it started as a pet project, i dont think he made any money on cars.
14:08 armistrar http://i.imgur.com/uCR4K.jpg
14:11 armistrar notice those massive pirelli tires.
14:11 armistrar those were extremely hard to find.
14:12 armistrar last two in north america in fact.
14:13 DagoRed You are a lucky man armistrar.
14:13 yahweh Hey Rue, are you home?
14:13 yahweh If you're Rue bed or Rue shop that's okay too.
14:14 yahweh rue_shop3? Is that the one we set up by the window?
14:14 armistrar by the way DagoRed, the story goes that Enzo ferrari told off Lamborghini to stick to his damn tractors when he demanded improvements.
14:14 DagoRed Yup!
14:15 armistrar But this was raeally a pet project, he never thought he would make any money off it.
14:15 DagoRed Ferarri honestly got destroyed.
14:15 DagoRed The car company has always been.... a novalty. Especially when Chrysler owned them.
14:16 DagoRed Enzo Ferarri (outside of F1) did something stupid which forever changed the fates of two companies.
14:16 DagoRed Lamborghini like you mentioned armistrar, and Ford.
14:17 armistrar right
14:17 DagoRed Ford at one point wanted to buy out Ferarri but was rejected. Fords response was a 1-2 punch. A joint venture with Cosworth to develop V8's for the F1 cars (which dominated) and the Ford GT40
14:21 armistrar I'm a huge fan and collector of lamborghinis and fords.
14:22 armistrar not really a ferrari guy.
14:29 DagoRed Heh, armistrar you are one lucky man. I wish I may be as fortunate as you as grow older.
14:29 DagoRed Also... speaking as a car guy THANK YOU for not only restoring these machines but sharing your collection.
14:34 armistrar I didnt restore this tractor.
14:34 armistrar Friend of mine did it, it was a bolt of rust when he found it.
14:34 armistrar Only 12 of these were ever sold to north america so it was really hard to find
14:35 DagoRed You paid for the restoration I assume. Or at least had a contribution to save the tractor.
14:35 armistrar apparenttly dealers were too afraid to deal with the supply parts for these.
14:35 DagoRed strange
14:35 TELunus That looks like... 2 Miuras and an Espada in the background?
14:35 armistrar Thats right.
14:35 TELunus Nice!
14:36 rue_house the cylinder confuses me, I'v seen newer tractors that were all cable driven
14:37 TELunus I'm planning on getting a Diablo when I have more money. But they're really expensive.
14:37 rue_house TELunus, hows the day looking?
14:37 rue_house oh day after tommorow, right
14:37 rue_house yea, I can tell when I'm on vaccation
14:37 rue_house ..
14:38 TELunus Day after that I was thinking actually.
14:38 rue_house monday ok
14:40 armistrar This tractors from 69 but it would be fair to say that they were fairly primitive. the way its put together it looks like how americans tractors were made in late 40s early 50s
14:40 armistrar but see that starter?
14:40 rue_house I was surprised by the electric start
14:40 armistrar thats off a countach right there.
14:40 armistrar :)
14:40 DagoRed lol
14:41 rue_house hmm 69, I wonder if the tractors I was looking at (cable driven) were older...
14:42 rue_house ah, restorer signatures
14:42 rue_house cool
14:43 rue_house just finsihed breakfast and I'm late for lunch
14:43 rue_house ok, today I'm supposed to...

14:47 rue_house Jay is the other one...hmm
14:47 rue_house kitty litter, and, damn, what was I supposed to do
14:49 rue_house armistrar, so what brings you here?
14:51 yahweh Rue
14:51 rue_house yahweh,
14:51 yahweh Hang out?
14:51 rue_house gonna come play on the lathe?

14:52 rue_house ok

14:53 rue_house I'm gonna get dressed and start lunch
