00:44 Lola8088 /msg rue_shop3 super busy right now?
00:46 rue_shop3 ok 36 pavers and 4 4x4's later, its up the 20"
00:47 rue_shop3 Lola8088, na, how goes?
00:48 rue_shop3 thats crazy, I dont have any spinich
00:54 Jak_o_Shadows pavers/bricks are always useful
01:09 zhanx evening
01:11 rue_shop3 ok I moved the lathe
01:11 rue_shop3 didn't end up on the floor either
01:11 zhanx i got a new puter for my cnc today
01:12 zhanx thinking power surge was my issue, lost 4 at once
01:12 rue_shop3 ouch
01:12 zhanx my laptop battery no longer holds a charge
01:13 zhanx so the 5 is good'ish
01:13 zhanx had an extra psu for it
01:13 zhanx so i got lots of foam insulation board today
01:13 zhanx 3 sheets of 4x8
01:14 rue_shop3 given your line of work, EMP?
01:14 zhanx maybe, the tv was acting up too
01:14 zhanx its on a high end battery backup
01:15 zhanx i am a 1/4 mile from the secret squirrel place
01:15 zhanx but the truck started fine etc.
01:18 zhanx rue how i did my software on the cnc https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-aX0_3yEMIO4/UNf878O26bI/AAAAAAAADmA/_wmPIgIFRSE/s320/2012-12-23%252022.23.15.jpg
01:18 GuShH any python c api 1337 boys around?
01:19 Jak_o_Shadows I know python, but i would be far from calling myself leet, or knowing the first thing about the C side of things
01:20 GuShH Heh, my question is strictly about interfacing thus it's C API
01:22 GuShH (Not being able to set values, but I can retrieve them just fine...)
01:22 zhanx rue_shop3, tomorrow i might be able to build a robot again
01:25 rue_shop3 :) I have a lathe!
01:25 zhanx gonna make one, got all the motors and the relays and the wood.
01:26 GuShH can you turn my frown upside down with the lathe?
01:26 zhanx GuShH, i can spin it in to a circle
01:26 GuShH and turn me into little bits in the process
01:27 GuShH zhanx: going to build a wooden lathe to turn wood? :p
01:27 zhanx nope foam
01:28 zhanx glorious foam
01:28 ShH foam
01:30 zhanx rue_shop3, wake up
01:31 GuShH why only the unicode string functions are linked on this stupid python lib...
01:31 GuShH PyString_FromString is an unresolved external... but it should be there!
01:32 GuShH oh possibly renamed
01:32 GuShH PyFail.
01:33 zhanx adian
01:34 zhanx typing fail
01:34 GuShH no, they replaced PyString_ functions to PyByte_ on 3.x
01:34 GuShH ...
01:35 GuShH Which is as stupid as everything around Python if you ask me.
01:35 ShH is only using it just beca
01:35 Jak_o_Shadows bytestrings?
01:35 GuShH It's fine, but when they try to abstract and simplify they end up doing the opposite.
01:36 GuShH They only manage to obscure things.
01:36 GuShH Jak_o_Shadows: non unicode, common ascii strings.. null terminated... sure each character is represented by a byte, so what? it's not a byte we are dealing with, it's a series of bytes representing readable text, thus strings... why rename to pybyte then?
01:37 GuShH <nerd> because such strings are based off of the byte module and we must obey the oop lords! </nerd>
01:47 rue_shop3 one thing I already like about this lathe is that the carrige handle goes the right way around
01:47 zhanx pics?
01:48 zhanx i want to see what you did so i can change my design to be better
01:48 zhanx noW!
02:05 rue_shop3 playing, post pics later
02:05 zhanx k
02:16 rue_shop3 start buton is black, dont like that
02:17 zhanx my kill switch is red i wanted orange
02:27 exiff that's a bit superficial is it not?
02:27 zhanx American, according to people today its my right
02:34 rue_mohr ]I'll just change the button (later)
02:34 rue_mohr I think the start/stop are in the wrong places too, maybe I'll reverse them
02:35 zhanx i now have software control of turning on all of my cnc
02:35 zhanx just need to make a robot to put stuff on the bed
02:36 rue_mohr !assist projects/lathe
02:36 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/projects/lathe
02:36 rue_mohr sorry I didn't take more pics, heat of the moment you know
02:37 zhanx ye
02:37 zhanx my cnc sound proofing is about done and i got no pics yet
02:37 rue_mohr I have to bolt some sheets of plywood within the legs tho, it resonates a bit
02:44 Jak_o_Shadows nice rue_mohr
02:45 Jak_o_Shadows also, just wondering, why bother having multiple accounts? Just get/make a bouncer type thing that lets you login to the one chat, presuming you have wifi
03:16 rue_mohr Jak_o_Shadows, I dont use wifi
03:17 Jak_o_Shadows i guess it'd still work though, each device still has to have a connection
03:44 rue_bed .
04:01 Mickkelo Good morning
04:03 Mickkelo I'm looking for an european university. I would like to do a Msc about robotics.
04:21 HuntsMan Mickkelo: look at KTH and ETHZ
04:22 Mickkelo thanks, i'll take a look at them
04:25 HuntsMan there are also other programs
04:25 HuntsMan in Germany, Spain, France, etc
04:25 HuntsMan and ERASMUS programs (EMARO, VIBOT, etc)
04:30 Mickkelo I never eared about those erasmus programs
04:31 HuntsMan http://emaro.irccyn.ec-nantes.fr/
04:31 HuntsMan take a look there
04:32 Mickkelo Do you know any more of these programs?
04:33 HuntsMan yes
04:33 HuntsMan http://www.vibot.org/
04:34 HuntsMan http://www.inf.fh-bonn-rhein-sieg.de/MAS
04:34 HuntsMan ah
04:34 HuntsMan http://www.inf.h-brs.de/informatik/en/MAS.html
04:35 HuntsMan http://www.automationrobotics.uni-dortmund.de/
04:35 HuntsMan that's the ones i remember now
04:35 HuntsMan you can google the rest
04:36 Mickkelo thanks, I'm going to take a look at those links
07:26 Gringoir hi
07:26 tobbor Gringoir! like, totally tell us about the project!
12:39 Lola8088 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvq8laPb498&feature=player_embedded
13:13 home OKAY
13:13 home OKAY!
13:28 rue_mohr wow, 11
13:32 rue_mohr now, whats the SFM speed for HSS on steel
13:48 home rue_bed: COOL
13:48 home rue_mohr: I will remember that
13:49 rue_mohr what are you remembering?
13:49 Tom_itx did you smash your toe or get it on the table?
13:52 rue_mohr ?
13:54 Tom_itx did you get the lathe on the stand?
13:54 rue_mohr yes
13:54 rue_mohr !assist projects/lathe
13:54 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/projects/lathe
13:57 Tom_itx is that an indicator on the slide?
13:57 Tom_itx for z travel?
13:58 rue_mohr its for threading
13:59 rue_mohr for matching up the threads
13:59 Tom_itx oh, just the 0 1 2 3 dial?
13:59 rue_mohr 1-12 iirc
13:59 Tom_itx harder to hit it
14:00 Tom_itx if you got 0 1 2 3 it's pretty easy to hit the right lead
14:00 rue_mohr you dont happen to have a RPM table for turning do you?
14:00 Tom_itx yes
14:00 Tom_itx i'll find it in a while
14:00 Tom_itx i'm pick n placin atm
14:00 rue_mohr cool, I cant find one on the interweb
14:00 Tom_itx all over the desk
14:00 rue_mohr cool
14:00 Tom_itx there are some out there
14:00 rue_mohr what yo picking and placin?
14:01 Tom_itx http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/cnc/psu/psu_index.php
14:01 Tom_itx those are for milling but it will give you some speeds for different materials
14:01 Tom_itx top of page
14:01 Tom_itx it's not quite the same for a lathe
14:02 rue_mohr no
14:02 Tom_itx you're after sfm
14:02 Tom_itx and it varies closer to center you get
14:02 Tom_itx one of those sites may have one for a lathe though
14:03 rue_mohr everything I'm finding is either endmills or drillbits
14:03 Tom_itx 800-1200 rpm for steel probably
14:04 Tom_itx and use 'feel' for feed
14:04 Tom_itx how fast will it turn?
14:04 rue_mohr there is a table yu can make for material/size/speed
14:05 Tom_itx i've likely got one
14:05 Tom_itx my cad cam does it for me too
14:06 rue_mohr :)
14:07 rue_mohr there were assumptions on the table I remember in school, but I dont know what they were
14:07 Tom_itx http://www.custompartnet.com/calculator/turning-speed-and-feed
14:08 Tom_itx http://www.wisc-online.com/objects/MTL11802/MLT11802.htm
14:09 Tom_itx http://www.fignoggle.com/library/speedfeed.htm
14:10 Tom_itx 1200 may be a bit fast for steel
14:10 Tom_itx depending on the diameter
14:11 Tom_itx http://www.horizoncarbide.com/pdfs/Speeds_&_Feeds.pdf
14:11 Tom_itx for coated inserts
14:31 rue_mohr ok I made this with the combination of informations...
14:33 rue_mohr !assist tutorials/mech/LATHE_TABLE.pdf
14:33 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/mech/LATHE_TABLE.pdf
14:36 rue_mohr see any issues?
14:36 Tom_itx what about feeds? :)
14:37 rue_mohr I always hand feed :)
14:37 rue_mohr blue = too fast
14:37 rue_mohr :)
14:37 Tom_itx you can get rates from that first calculator on my page
14:37 Tom_itx it's a pretty good reference
14:38 Tom_itx it's also downloadable as a windows app
14:39 Tom_itx http://zero-divide.net/index.php?page=fswizard&shell_id=199&load_tool_id=27011
14:39 rue_mohr http://www.wisc-online.com/objects/MTL11802/MLT11802.htm <-- that one dont' help, dont know the numbers for the materials I'm using
14:39 Tom_itx all sorts of materials
14:40 Tom_itx use a thread mill as the tool
14:40 rue_mohr http://www.fignoggle.com/library/speedfeed.htm <-- that more or less agrees with what I have
14:40 Tom_itx and 1 flute
14:41 Tom_itx they all should be real close
14:41 m_itx puts a batch of 'cookies' in the
14:41 rue_mohr http://www.fignoggle.com/library/speedfeed.htm <-- dosn't help cause of cutting material type
14:46 rue_mohr ok I think the chart I made dosn't disagree with anything
14:51 rue_mohr http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/mech/LATHE_TABLE.pdf
15:10 rue_shop3 Tom_itx, have any cutting fluid?
15:10 rue_shop3 http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/mech/LATHE_TABLE.pdf
15:10 rue_shop one more time!
15:11 rue_shop3 http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/mech/LATHE_TABLE.pdf
15:22 Tom_itx wood plastic and aluminum are all the same in hss
15:23 Tom_itx and alum and wood are in carbide
15:23 Tom_itx err i guess plastic is too
15:40 rue_shop3 Tom_itx, have any cutting fluid?
15:48 rue_shop I"m looking for a label that says "warning contains"....
16:24 Tom_itx i just use oil i have around
16:25 Tom_itx if you tap you can get some tapping fluid
16:25 Tom_itx it really helps for tapping problem materials
16:25 Tom_itx you could make an air mister
17:19 GuShH crap...
17:19 GuShH "feels like" peaked at 125.6F outside, today.
17:20 GuShH hail storm anyone... I bet it's coming soon.
18:25 rue_mohr sweeet, I made a thing
18:25 Tom_itx what thang did you make?
18:26 Tom_itx be forewarned about doing machine work. you will drag chips inside on your feet and get them stuck in your carpet so don't walk around barefoot
18:30 rue_mohr !assist images/p1040782-barb.jpg
18:30 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/images/p1040782-barb.jpg

18:30 tobbor Possibly http://eds.dyndns.org/~ircjunk/images/p1040783-barb.jpg
18:31 rue_mohr :)
18:31 Tom_itx what's it for?
18:32 rue_mohr 3/16" pipe to 1/8" npt
18:32 rue_mohr shop ran out of them
18:32 Tom_itx threads look questionable
18:32 rue_mohr its just the camera angle
18:32 rue_mohr they are ok
18:32 Tom_itx k
18:32 Tom_itx i ran similar parts at a job once
18:33 Tom_itx by the thousands
18:33 rue_mohr the barbs didn't come out perfect
18:33 rue_mohr had to use all 3 tools, left, right and straight
18:33 Tom_itx i noticed but refrained
18:33 rue_mohr angles are by hand :)
18:34 Tom_itx you don't have a compound crosslide?
18:34 Tom_itx you can turn for the angle
18:35 Tom_itx the ones i made were on 6 & 8 spindle bar machines that cut the whole profile with one tool
18:36 Tom_itx they were for propane
18:36 rue_mohr I do, but I didn't want to adjust it
18:36 Tom_itx i think
18:36 Tom_itx looks ok for the first part off
18:36 rue_mohr damnit, I still need a christmas tree
18:37 Tom_itx let it grow another year
18:37 rue_mohr damnit, lunch
18:37 Tom_itx it's nearly too late
18:37 Tom_itx gonna pick n place another batch here in a bit
18:37 Tom_itx eatin right now
18:39 Tom_itx how did you cut the flats?
18:41 Tom_itx looks like it may have gotten hot too
18:42 rue_mohr I have to go find a tree branch
18:42 rue_mohr damnit
18:44 GuShH was it brake fluid that swells up seals?
18:44 GuShH (but does it mean it also destroys them or can I use it as a hack?)
18:44 Tom_itx depends on the seals
18:44 GuShH looks like regular rubber
18:44 Tom_itx neoprene
18:44 GuShH otherwise I have silicone ones
18:44 Tom_itx i don't remember
18:45 GuShH it's for an air pump
18:45 Tom_itx why do you need brake fluid for an air pump?
18:45 GuShH may have to make one from scratch since I can't find replacaements
18:45 GuShH because the o-rings I used aren't sealing well
18:49 GuShH Tom_itx: it's not manufactured anymore, no one sells the spares and the standard sized o-rings just won't cut it, already found out the hard way.
18:49 GuShH hopefully a custom one will do the job, otherwise I'll need to try the brake fluid to see if that makes it swell up and seal properly...
18:50 GuShH problem is it'll corrode the steel if I leave it there
20:24 rue_mohr the lathe only feeds towards the chuck!
20:24 rue_mohr I need to find an idler to modify it
20:57 rue_mohr yay I did a tree
21:06 Tom_itx it won't reverse feed?
21:06 Tom_itx nonsense...
23:23 rue_mohr and it feeds TOWARDS the chuck
23:23 rue_mohr :/
23:24 rue_mohr making the pipe barb I broke the tap handle, while making a new one, the old set screw is 12 fine, which I dont have a tap for, so I'm making a few thumb set screw for it
23:26 rue_mohr and the knurler is trying to break, I need to make new screws to hold it togethor
23:27 rue_mohr !assist images/p1040784-tree.jpg

23:52 rue_shop3 shaft couplers
23:53 rue_shop we could make shaft couplers all night
