00:30 katsmeow-afk yeas
00:30 katsmeow-afk the rest is all usually harmonics
00:31 katsmeow-afk where's Arcata, and why is my bot reading about it?
00:36 katsmeow-afk i just got to the keybd, and my feets are already getting too cold, and it's at least 73F in here
01:36 rue_bed 73
01:36 rue_bed f
01:37 rue_bed 73F! isn't that boiling point of water!
01:37 rue_bed kat, I want a filter the removes the tone from voice
01:38 rue_bed just want the static
02:05 ferdna looking for rubber belts (timing belts?)... for my servo gears...
02:06 ferdna any ideas where i could get'em in assorted sizes, pitches and cheap?
02:06 orlok old inkjets?
02:06 orlok Side of the road?
02:26 ferdna orlok, i have a few parts from inkjets... but they are way too big
02:37 ferdna orlok, strange... ebay returns nothing =/
02:42 orlok ferdna: ebay? lol.. i could step outside and pick one up off the footpath?
02:42 orlok I may just do that - Its been there for a week.
03:03 ferdna orlok, send me a few then...
10:09 Guiixandy algum brasileiro?
12:08 katsmeow-afk rue? the "static" ? the fricatives?
12:09 katsmeow-afk if you do, then you won't hear the sounds of 'p', 'b', or any vowels
12:10 katsmeow-afk and i dunno you can do that without fancy computer programming, pretty sure an analog system won't do it well
13:14 ShH_Lappy offers theBear a
13:20 smeding GuShH_Lappy! it's been a while
13:21 GuShH_Lappy mainly because some truck performed a bruteforce attack against my connection?
13:23 smeding also because you're not on ##electronics anymore
13:23 mutilator O_O
13:24 GuShH_Lappy but, is electronics still the same useless crappy channel?
13:24 mutilator http://spred.me/f/47788/Ijrrs.jpg/
13:25 GuShH_Lappy mutilator: irrelevant to this channel, maybe you wanted to paste that on ##electronics?
13:25 GuShH_Lappy oh, katsmeow-afk how are those tomatoes?
13:25 ShH_Lappy g
13:25 mutilator nope i was trying to direct it toward you completely
13:25 mutilator i forgot to double click your name
13:26 GuShH_Lappy :O
13:26 GuShH_Lappy I haven't been drunk in about two years now
13:26 mutilator now we know why
13:26 GuShH_Lappy hah
13:26 GuShH_Lappy Because I'm not like theBear, if I kept drinking at that rate I'd be more than half dead.
13:28 GuShH_Lappy Plus I'm past that age.
13:28 mutilator 'that age'?
13:28 GuShH_Lappy that age where you don't give a crap and you constantly drink yourself to pukeville
13:28 mutilator i think thats more a level of maturity than age
13:29 GuShH_Lappy probably
13:29 mutilator plenty of 15yr old 40 yr olds
13:29 GuShH_Lappy also your mood.
13:29 mutilator yea, theres that too
13:29 GuShH_Lappy whether you are depressed or not.
13:30 mutilator i just bought a gallon of cider, some cinnemon sticks, and some jack dan honey
13:30 mutilator good fire in the cold weather
13:30 GuShH_Lappy never got drunk with cider
13:30 GuShH_Lappy although I do enjoy a good cider
13:30 GuShH_Lappy too bad it's rather expensive here
13:30 mutilator its that time of year i bring the projector back outside because its dark early
13:30 GuShH_Lappy more so than beer
13:30 mutilator sit and have a fire and watch movies on the back of the house
13:30 GuShH_Lappy and I'm talking about the industrial crap, the good stuff costs a lot more.
13:31 GuShH_Lappy lol
13:31 mutilator cider is super expensive this year
13:31 GuShH_Lappy Hmm where I'm at it's getting warmer and warmer
13:31 mutilator apples died off bad
13:31 ShH_Lappy wants an apple tree, although you'd make less than a gallon with a tree's w
13:31 mutilator early heat wave and then froze a few times
13:31 mutilator killed a lot of the tree fruits
13:31 GuShH_Lappy I'm setting up to brew some beer, but it's a side project.
13:32 GuShH_Lappy already got the copper tubing for the cooler / heat exchanger
13:32 mutilator i keep telling myself i'm going to but i never get around to it
13:32 GuShH_Lappy it costs quite a bit to get it all setup
13:32 GuShH_Lappy but then you can make beer relatively cheap
13:32 mutilator yea
13:33 ShH_Lappy is not being productive once again thanks to the magic of
13:33 mutilator heh
13:33 mutilator i need a garage
13:33 GuShH_Lappy so do I.
13:33 mutilator i dont want to do it outside or in the shed
13:34 mutilator getting full as it is
13:34 GuShH_Lappy I don't even have a shed ..
13:34 mutilator going to do it in the kitchen?
13:34 mutilator or just outside..
13:34 GuShH_Lappy used to have a massive basement at the old place, that was plenty good for everything
13:34 GuShH_Lappy probably in the kitchen
13:34 GuShH_Lappy you can get contaminants outside that could ruin the batch
13:35 GuShH_Lappy wild yeasts and germs
13:35 GuShH_Lappy they can easily dominate your beer yeast and ruin the batch
13:35 mutilator half my basement is filled with my tools the other half is nice, carpeted and stuff
13:35 mutilator no room really down there
13:35 GuShH_Lappy I don't know why this place doesn't have a basement
13:36 GuShH_Lappy it doesn't make sense
13:36 GuShH_Lappy other than they were cheap when it came to building this place, in that regard at least...
16:17 tsmeow-afk lifts up a floorboard and looks for a basement under the cha
19:59 rue_house "so, let me get this right. Your stereo didn't have enough audio displacement, so you hooked your music player into my ships propulsion engines???? How the hell did you equalize the audio spectrum so well?"
20:10 rue_house katsmeow-afk,
20:10 rue_house http://hackaday.com/2012/10/04/how-to-convert-an-internal-combustion-engine-to-run-from-steam-power/
20:10 rue_house everyones in on t
20:10 rue_house it
20:17 tsmeow-afk warned ya it woul
20:20 tsmeow-afk made a olde power steering pump be a compressed air motor, would have worked on steam just as
20:27 katsmeow-afk LOL : In the event there wasn’t any power at 0 RPM a modern train locomotive would just sit on the track looking pretty, and making noise ;)
20:28 katsmeow-afk "what is it?" "a train locomotive!" "what's it do?" "sit on the track and look pretty while making noise"
20:28 katsmeow-afk lol
20:31 rue_house :( an uptight person ruined my day
20:32 tsmeow-afk looks for said person to bitch at
20:32 rue_house nothing like an electric transmission
20:33 rue_house like to see the windings on one of those one day
20:33 rue_house what tools can be used to non-destructivly work on an operating brain?
20:33 katsmeow-afk electric transmission? you mean the electomagnetic slip clutch things?
20:34 rue_house dunno
20:34 rue_house my understanding is that locos use a genorator/motor transmission
20:34 rue_house I'v not taken one apart, I'll put that on my todo list
20:34 rue_house slip down to the tracks in vancouver one night with a screwdriver
20:34 katsmeow-afk i think you cannot work nondestructively on an operational brain, just getting access to it is going to present it to a huge array of harmful stuff in the environment
20:35 rue_house corrosive chameicals eh?
20:35 rue_house so, maybe thats not how its done
20:35 katsmeow-afk err, they use a generator on the big diesels, and a dc motor on the bogeys, yeas,, really new ones use an ac motor
20:35 rue_house I think one would require tools for detecting and injecting signals
20:35 katsmeow-afk they are like a ww2 diesel electric sub, basically
20:36 rue_house pneumatic start?
20:36 Tom_itx there was an article i posted about that a while back
20:36 katsmeow-afk the subs were, yeas
20:36 Tom_itx tapping your thoughts to control something
20:37 katsmeow-afk a small hole where the spark plug would go, apply 600psi and the darned things were going to crank one way or nother
20:37 Tom_itx oak didn't work
20:37 rue_house I need to reimplement the data and process on a different hardware platform
20:37 Tom_itx it shattered when tried to thread it
20:37 katsmeow-afk told ya use a dremel
20:37 Tom_itx moving on to hard maple
20:37 katsmeow-afk you gotta take very thin cuts with a very shary cutter, think chainsaw teeth profiles
20:38 Tom_itx if hard maple fails, i'll move to aluminum
20:38 e_house cannot determine conversation context, the current conversation threads are not mixing logic
20:38 Tom_itx and if that fails i'll move to steel
20:38 Tom_itx conversational thread: http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/cnc/Lathe/thread.jpg
20:38 katsmeow-afk Tom, concentional late work involves chipping the material, especially metal lathes, you gotta *cut* the material
20:39 katsmeow-afk err, conventional
20:39 tsmeow-afk has a 3rd and 4th thread in her head atm, things are getting crosse
20:39 rue_house I dont wnat to go to sleep again today
20:39 Tom_itx i may go out later and grind a tool
20:39 Tom_itx V with knife edges
20:39 Tom_itx with a cup in the middle
20:40 katsmeow-afk mount it tough, you don't want it to dig in
20:40 Tom_itx it's a good sized lathe
20:40 katsmeow-afk i'd use a round rasp file to start, and a fine round file to finish up
20:40 Tom_itx i used to run it years back
20:41 Tom_itx i wish it were mine
20:41 Tom_itx but i'm just glad i still have access to it
20:41 katsmeow-afk the size doesn't matter, the angle of the tooltip, the post's resistant to letting the tip dig, etc
20:41 rue_house maybe if I take these 4046 to my shop something will magically happen
20:42 Tom_itx nothing was magical today
20:42 rue_house why didn't I make the audio spectrum variable freq gen I wanted from a 4046's VCO?
20:44 rue_house I should go wind up the boiler
20:44 rue_house house is getting cold in the moringigs
20:44 katsmeow-afk i'd use a digital sample and just play it back at fifferent freqs
20:44 rue_house laskjfdlkjsadflkjsaldfkj
20:45 rue_house hmm
20:45 rue_house and I was trying to think of how to clock a rom with a sinewave table on it
20:46 rue_house immortality is profoundly borring
20:48 katsmeow-afk easy, digitise as fast as possible a slow as possible sine wave, then clock it out to a d-a chip as fast as possible, when you reach the speed that's too fast for the d-a chip, you drop the LSB off the counter you're incrementing thrut he ram with, thereby halving the rate tot eh d-a chip, and then you in qwiwkwfh, ant ih;2345, j;eurhek: kle ll;i76897!
20:49 katsmeow-afk if you start with 16bit digitised sine, you should be fine out to 5Ghz, at 8bits
20:50 katsmeow-afk i have one tomato in the garden with red all over it
20:50 katsmeow-afk several handfulls all green still
20:51 katsmeow-afk the poplars and oaks are shedding leaves, one tomato plant is shedding some too
21:06 katsmeow-afk ok, remember i planted from seed on June 18 this year, in unprepared dirt in 5 gal buckets on the roof, and this is what i have so far : http://designerthinking.com/images/garden/Oct042012-4-beans.jpg http://designerthinking.com/images/garden/Oct042012-1-redtomato.JPG http://designerthinking.com/images/garden/Oct042012-2m.jpg
21:07 katsmeow-afk Oct042012-1-redtomato.JPG shows about a dozen green tomatoes too, but some are behind leaves
21:08 katsmeow-afk so 3.5 mo to get the first tomato, and beans are still coming in too
21:09 katsmeow-afk i give that reddish tomato anotehr 4-7 days on the plant to ripen more
21:31 rue_shop4 kat, I could just calculate a rom table and burn it to a chip...
21:32 rue_shop4 good show kat
21:49 orlok katsmeow-afk: http://www.tngun.com/diy-2-cycle-to-steam-engine-convertion-project/
22:07 katsmeow-afk orlok : DesignerThinking.com/images/steam/IMG_1917m.jpg DesignerThinking.com/images/steam/IMG_1918m.jpg
22:08 katsmeow-afk while that is a marine 2-stroke V6, 2 cyl are badly scored, luckily 3 are good on the same bank AND an even 60 degrees apart
22:10 katsmeow-afk my quandry is 3-fold: fixed exhaust at the bottom, and do i really want to make an engine with push-only pistons, and using a design that's absolutely going to fail the way every engine i had fails: the cylinders wear oval and compression drops off a cliff
22:11 katsmeow-afk building an engine without a cross slide tween the piston rod and the crank rod is a design to put side forces on the piston, it *will* wear the sides of the cylinder
22:13 katsmeow-afk this engine block show such wear, i have a V6 car engine i cannot replace the leaky pistons in because that side wear ends near the top (which leaves a ridge at the top of the cyl that you cannot push the piston up past), and every engine i have ever had was oval when it finally quit
22:14 katsmeow-afk i just don't *want* to build a design that's guaranteed to fail due to a design flaw
22:16 orlok katsmeow-afk: Isnt that pretty much certain to happen in any V configuration engine?
22:16 katsmeow-afk yo may ask why i am concerned about a flaw that won't fail for 10 yrs, well, 2 things : 1) run 24-7 it will fail in one year, and 2) i been here over 20 yrs, i'd have had to buy 2 new blocks even if they did last 10 yrs
22:16 orlok katsmeow-afk: which is why inline or flat engines are technically superior, as well as being batter balanced, but they require more space?
22:16 katsmeow-afk any engine without the cross slide, V or inline or radial, doesn't matter
22:17 katsmeow-afk flats are better, they have shorter cranks
22:17 katsmeow-afk forces on the mains are evened out, more balanced
22:17 katsmeow-afk a V is just a folded up flat, with problems
22:18 katsmeow-afk an inline is a balancing and torque mess
22:18 theBear how is inline different to flat ?
22:18 theBear oh sorry, i know flat
22:18 theBear ignore that
22:18 katsmeow-afk k
22:19 katsmeow-afk radials are a mess of different rod lengths and compression ratios
22:21 katsmeow-afk i am ever so slightly considering a V4, or even a quasi-flat >< 8 , steam with double operating pistons, not so wide as to be a square engine tho
22:21 katsmeow-afk a square being a radial minus every other cylinder
22:26 katsmeow-afk math, but not common sense, tells me that a peak pressure of 100psi, average 50psi, 2" pvc water pipe, double acting, 4cyl, at 1000rpm, will give me 20hp
22:27 katsmeow-afk common sense tells me to not use pvc cylinders, and to use higher pressure if i can get it, and lower rpm
22:27 GuShH_Lappy and we've reached new levels of crazy everyone
22:27 ShH_Lappy hands katsmeow-afk the tr
22:28 tsmeow-afk curtseys as she acc
22:28 GuShH_Lappy :D
22:28 Tom_itx ipaq appears to be dead
22:29 Tom_itx fell into a fishtank and after disassembly and drying it's not working
22:29 katsmeow-afk you drew the 'd' in "ipad" upside down
22:29 Tom_itx did not
22:29 katsmeow-afk you know to show it to the fish, you can hold it against the glass?
22:30 Tom_itx wasn't mine
22:30 katsmeow-afk o
22:30 GuShH_Lappy it's sleeping with the fishies now
22:30 Tom_itx i've managed to revive other things but this may not be one
22:32 home I want to uhm
22:33 GuShH_Lappy katsmeow-afk: why pvc anyway
22:34 katsmeow-afk it's cheap, i have some, i can play with different lengths
22:34 katsmeow-afk gotcha is the steam temperature
22:35 katsmeow-afk it's otherwise good for 220psi cold
22:35 katsmeow-afk but it can be played with on air
22:35 GuShH_Lappy what about using concrete and the pvc as the liner
22:36 katsmeow-afk wire wrapping may work better, concrete has low tensile strength
22:36 katsmeow-afk the pvc won't last anyhow, it will score or rub away
22:36 GuShH_Lappy so why bother
22:37 katsmeow-afk i already told you
22:37 GuShH_Lappy o.o
22:38 katsmeow-afk i can spin it 50x a day for testing different lengths, then replace it with the pricier steel when i chose a size
22:38 GuShH_Lappy alright
22:39 ShH_Lappy goes to s
22:48 katsmeow-afk Chatbot Battles Post-Match Analysis
22:48 katsmeow-afk The matches have all been played, the winners have been announced, and the prizes have been awared. <<== fail.
23:20 rue_house kat, see datasheet for DS1210
23:24 katsmeow-afk k
23:25 katsmeow-afk they still make those?
23:27 katsmeow-afk CE propogation delay is 20ns
23:27 katsmeow-afk on ebay right now you can get 100 srams that have complete cycle times under 20ns for $10
23:28 katsmeow-afk rue, why am i seeing this data sheet?
23:32 tsmeow-afk quits seein
23:53 katsmeow-afk http://www.mondobot.com/
23:56 rue_bed I thought it might interetst you for your solid state storage or computer projects
23:56 katsmeow-afk oh
