00:01 rue_house mmm
00:01 rue_house I can recheck for you
00:01 rue_house !time
00:01 tobbor My watch says its 09:50PM Sun Sep 16 2012
00:01 rue_house when that says 5:00pm
00:02 AzMoo All good, I'm fairly confident I will be fine now.
00:02 rue_house http://www.yourdesks.com/s/10040/MyProducts/targus_ergonomic_single_lcd_display_arm.jpg
00:02 rue_house katsmeow-afk, I think I can make one out of connector rods
00:03 rue_house AzMoo, design with 200%
00:03 rue_house then nothing is stressed and anything unexpected is taken care of
00:04 rue_house but whats the point of having a monitor arm like that if its not motorized and can follow you
00:04 yahweh Why Valve is stupid...
00:04 yahweh OpenGL versus Direct3D on Windows 7This experience lead to the question: why does an OpenGL version of our game run faster than Direct3D on Windows 7? It appears that it’s not related to multitasking overhead. We have been doing some fairly close analysis and it comes down to a few additional microseconds overhead per batch in Direct3D which does not affect OpenGL on Windows. Now that we know the hardware is capable of more performance, we w
00:05 yahweh Rather then switch to opengl which runs faster and they have already rewritten for... Lets see if we can fix a microsoft product.
00:06 rue_house oops I missed bedtime by 9 mins
00:07 yahweh That being said, Valve is hiring people who know about openGL and linux for anyone here who's interested.
00:07 yahweh Rue, what time are you off work tomorrow?
00:07 rue_house http://www.ergotechgroup.com/images/categories/100-D28-B33-ICE8.jpg
00:08 e_house dr
00:08 rue_house 6 monitors......
00:08 yahweh Do it, I dare you.
00:08 yahweh Three video cards though.
00:08 rue_house I cant, the card cost too much
00:09 yahweh unless you get a gtx 670 or equivilent. They support three monitors a piece.
00:12 yahweh oh, my bad, gtx 690. They stopped making them though.
00:12 rue_house loooks like min $36 for a monitor arm off ebay
00:12 yahweh All for the best I suppose. $800 is too much for a video card.
00:12 rue_house $45 from atic
00:15 rue_house http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Swing-Dual-Arm-Dual-LCD-Desk-Mount12-24-Dual-Monitor-2-Monitor-/170908414784?pt=US_TV_Mounts_Brackets&hash=item27caef7340
00:16 rue_house I want 3 completely independantly articulated arms
00:26 rue_bed hmmm
00:26 rue_bed on a big frame that holds everything

07:39 chris_99 does anyone know about welding powersupplies
07:39 chris_99 i'm wondering if most are constant voltage or constant current
07:40 theBear what kinda welding ? most arc-welders are a split-core 'transformer' that you can seperate more or less with a big knob
07:41 chris_99 just cheap stick welders
07:44 theBear what i just described.... so umm, the knobs work in voltage usually (are marked in voltage) but umm, i'd say it's a combination of both, basically just seperating an electromagnet and a pickup
07:45 chris_99 hmm, i thought the output of a welder was DC, is that not the case then?
07:46 theBear not a cheap one
07:46 theBear probly a mig or something, don't really remember
07:47 chris_99 ah ok cheers, i was wondering about using it for a cheap high ampage DC powersupply ;)
11:32 katsmeow-afk constant currrent
11:33 katsmeow-afk it outputs enough voltage to strike an arc, but then the magnetics are so lossy the voltage drops even tho there's enough wire to keep the current up
11:33 sw0rdfish hmmmmmmmm
11:34 katsmeow-afk you can use it as a cheap high current supply, but chances are you'll burn up the primary winding
11:35 katsmeow-afk reason is: at open circuit , or when the iron core is close together, the output may be 60v, but while welding the output may be only 20v
11:36 katsmeow-afk 60v@100amps will burnout the primary, 20v@100amps won't
11:36 sw0rdfish if I'ma buy a big book should I get paperback or hardcover.... I think hardcover would be better for comfortably keeping the book open while reading and all? But paperbacks are certainly cheaper!
11:36 katsmeow-afk one is 3x the power of the other
11:38 katsmeow-afk rue, easiler to just hang it off a telescoping pole from the ceiling with a ball joint at each end
11:39 sw0rdfish katsmeow-afk, easiler? :P
11:40 tsmeow-afk y
11:40 sw0rdfish "3x the power of the other" sounds good to me katsmeow-afk.
11:40 sw0rdfish what do you usually buy?
11:42 katsmeow-afk no, because the *arc welder* is made to *deliver* the 20v@100amps , if you set it up so you can pull 60v@100 amps, the primary can't, it will burn up
11:42 katsmeow-afk umm, i don't usually buy arc welders, that's a capital investment item, not something you ofetn usually buy
11:43 sw0rdfish lol i was talking about book formats katsmeow-afk.... haha
11:44 katsmeow-afk the less expensive, so i can spend the money on electronics
11:46 sw0rdfish lol yeah then paperback formats are the cheaper ones... WAY cheaper usually
11:46 katsmeow-afk or online pdfs
11:47 katsmeow-afk i have *way* more online books than i could ever afford to buy the paper versions of
11:48 sw0rdfish http://www.amazon.com/Atkinson-Hilgards-Introduction-Psychology-Nolen-Hoeksema/dp/1844807282/ref=dp_ob_title_bk
11:48 sw0rdfish I wanna get that
11:49 chris_99 katsmeow-afk, i thought you can get both const. current and const. voltage ones
11:49 sw0rdfish there's a used hardcover that is so cheap but it turns out all hardcovers are 14th edition and from 2002-2003
11:50 sw0rdfish so weird that they didn't make hardcover for the newer edition.... and I'm thinking maybe i'll have a HARD time trying to keep it open at certain pages
11:50 katsmeow-afk for on-the-ocean work, get low voltage arc welders, butt hey are hard to strike
11:51 chris_99 this may sound silly but why don't people electricute themselves using welders underwater
11:54 katsmeow-afk rubber gloves, rubber wetsuits, low voltages, balanced electrical systems
11:55 katsmeow-afk that said, many people have been fried by the conventional growlbox while on ships, because when not actually arcing, the volts go up to 60v or more, which you certainly can feel in high humidity
11:56 chris_99 ah, i didn't think about the suits they wear
11:58 katsmeow-afk you can get thin neoprene gloves, like the latex gloves surgeons wear, but less allergenic, i tend to wear them under my welding gloves
11:59 katsmeow-afk make it less of a shocking esperience to change rods in high humidity, or with sweat-damp gloves
12:04 sw0rdfish my friend is trying to convince me nothin wrong with paperback books :D
12:05 katsmeow-afk "wrong"? i think he's correct
12:06 katsmeow-afk depends on why you are getting the book, i think i'd get the acid-free pulp one as my primary criteria
12:09 katsmeow-afk Rats and "shocking" quantities of illegal and "potentially unsafe" meat are being sold
12:09 katsmeow-afk Cane rats and "shocking" quantities of illegal and "potentially unsafe" meat have been sold to the public in east London, a BBC London undercover investigation has found.
12:11 katsmeow-afk The manager of Great Expectations, a food store which sold two Ghanaian rats to the undercover BBC researcher, said: "I don't sell rats, I never sell rats, I don't sell rats.
12:11 katsmeow-afk "I don't have any rats, why you come to video me?"
12:11 katsmeow-afk The manager of Adom Trading, another shop that sold bush meat described as a Ghanaian "grass cutter" rat, also denied selling it.
12:11 katsmeow-afk "What you are saying is a lie, a 100% lie, I don't sell rats.
12:28 katsmeow-afk A friend recommended Humberto Francisco Perez, an 81-year old "backyard dentist" who said he could do the work on the cheap. Police say Perez left the girl permanently disfigured. They said Perez filed four of the girl's front teeth all the way down to the gums, then tried to replace them with an iron bar painted white.
12:56 sw0rdfish katsmeow-afk, acid-free pulp?
12:57 katsmeow-afk you know how old paper turns yellow, especially newspapers?
12:57 katsmeow-afk how it gets brittle, falla apart?
12:58 katsmeow-afk that's the acid in the paper, acid free paper stays good for centuries
13:16 sw0rdfish oh waw katsmeow-afk I didn't know that was acid paper
13:16 sw0rdfish lol how can we know if a book has acid free papers or not
13:16 sw0rdfish like this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Atkinson-Hilgards-Introduction-Psychology-Nolen-Hoeksema/dp/1844807282/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1347897770&sr=1-2
13:18 katsmeow-afk read the front sections, if it is acid free, they will be proud of that , and say so
13:23 sw0rdfish I remember my highschool text books' papers were nice and smooth
13:23 sw0rdfish those kinda educational books are all acid-free i think
13:23 sw0rdfish since this one's kinda educational book I hope it is.
13:25 katsmeow-afk smooth = talc , nothing to do with acid content
13:26 chris_99 they put talc in paper?!
13:32 Tom_itx http://www2.electronicproducts.com/Have_you_seen_this_Video_ads_in_print_magazines-article-fajb_marieclaire_dolcegabbana_sep2012-html.aspx
13:34 chris_99 nice :)
13:34 chris_99 i wonder how much the magazine costs
13:35 GuShH chris_99: they put talc in all kinds of things! even your aspirins!
13:35 chris_99 sweet it's a UK mag
13:35 chris_99 i'm gonna get that
13:35 chris_99 GuShH, noooo, don't tell me that :(
13:36 GuShH hey so the battery can store the video? (read what the retarded journalist wrote)
13:36 GuShH chris_99: it's not in ALL magazines, just a few of them it seems.
13:37 chris_99 oh darn :(
14:07 sw0rdfish katsmeow-afk, what is "talc"?
14:08 sw0rdfish ahh nvm i looked it up... nice.
14:08 sw0rdfish I see... well I'm guessing acid-free book must be expensive
15:46 Kiiwinki So... Freud: A delusional pervert who projected his own perceived inadequacies into other people and analysed them to reject cognizance of their actual possessor? // OR, alternatively // A man of undoubted genius in creative interpretation within an absurd but internally consistent framework of pseudorationality?
15:46 Kiiwinki Anyone up for some semantic dickwaving?
15:47 chris_99 heh, pseudoscientist imo
15:48 Kiiwinki (Dickwaving vaguely alludes to the verbal-expression counterpart of Yngwie Malmsteeny rock-music)
15:48 chris_99 alas i don't know enough about him to have a good discussion though
15:50 Kiiwinki (Loose, improvised reasoning engaged in more for the sake of deriving practice and amusement from whatever analysis-elgible material is available)
15:50 GuShH Kiiwinki: freud?.... better known as a fucked up tweaker.
15:50 GuShH at least by us, men.
15:50 Kiiwinki Yes
15:50 Kiiwinki Unsurprisingly, I find it quite easy to relate to the man, for I too enjoy coming up with ludicrous shit while high on stimulants
15:51 Kiiwinki Sometimes they have a point, sometimes they don't...
15:52 Kiiwinki I'll just put this here http://pastebin.com/x34hTKiN
15:52 Kiiwinki Wrote it the other day - might be interested in hearing feedback from someone formally knowledged in these matters
15:53 Kiiwinki For all I know, it might not make any sense at all
17:01 Kiiwinki No-one?
17:03 Kiiwinki Probably should paste an actually working link at this point: http://pastebin.com/HZ0HqHz3
19:49 EzCyclone1 HEy everyone.
19:51 yahweh Hello
19:51 m_itx hides rue_house behind a
19:51 yahweh Rue's house is already surrounded in bush.
19:52 yahweh Rue is also not at home, the bastard.
19:53 EzCyclone1 ok that's confusing
19:53 EzCyclone1 lol
19:55 Tom_itx 3 strikes and you're out
19:58 yahweh It's okay Cyclone, it doesn't make any sense.
19:59 GuShH Tom_itx: is this guy some sort of shitty stalker or is he trying to be funny but failing miserably?
19:59 yahweh :(
20:00 Tom_itx they are buds
20:00 Tom_itx i think
20:00 yahweh I'm not a stalker.
20:00 yahweh Rue's house is actually behind some bush.
20:00 ShH s
20:00 GuShH yahweh: that's not helping your case though
20:01 yahweh meh
20:37 Ademan Does anyone know of an inexpensive attitude-detection system? The new price to beat appears to be the STM32F3 discovery board (http://www.st.com/internet/evalboard/product/254044.jsp) at 10.90 USD.
20:38 Ademan if it wasn't obvious, I'm only concerned about the hardware, I'm comfortable writing the software portion (I know I'll need to brush up on my maths a bit first though)
21:29 katsmeow-afk Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds A. Einstien
22:20 EzCyclone1 Yawn. well my parts are sorted out. what now?
22:39 tsmeow-afk just plugged in stuff and is preparing to MELT METALS!! MUAHAHAHAH
22:56 katsmeow-afk ok, metals melted
23:04 EzCyclone1 what you working on?
23:05 ace4016 a floating island
23:05 EzCyclone1 hmm
23:05 ace4016 far above the mountain tops
23:05 EzCyclone1 sounds fun
23:05 EzCyclone1 lol
23:05 katsmeow-afk no, i was soldering
23:06 EzCyclone1 ahh ok.

23:07 katsmeow-afk Per BuzzFeed, “Former presidential candidate Rick Santorum attacked the media and "smart people" for not being on the side of conservatives in a speech to the Values Voter Summit on Saturday (in D.C.).
23:07 katsmeow-afk "We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country," Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, told the audience at the Omni Shoreham hotel. "We will never have the elite, smart people on our side."
23:07 EzCyclone1 What are those? I think it says TIP420?
23:08 katsmeow-afk TIP42
23:09 EzCyclone1 NPN?
23:09 katsmeow-afk the otehr two use TIP102/107 pairs
23:09 katsmeow-afk :-/
23:13 EzCyclone1 Jesus Christ Kat that's awesome!
23:13 katsmeow-afk which?
23:14 EzCyclone1 The power supply
23:14 katsmeow-afk ah
23:14 katsmeow-afk lotta power in small package
23:16 EzCyclone1 no kidding, it looks awesome
23:16 EzCyclone1 Dense! but awesome.
23:17 katsmeow-afk yeas, it was about half that, half the ratings and have the density, but i figured "why not?", and did it up
23:17 katsmeow-afk so, ~2x the heatsink size, 2x the pass transistors, 2x the psu caps, etc
23:19 EzCyclone1 it's sexy
23:19 EzCyclone1 Hey, you still having troubles with your neibhor?
23:19 EzCyclone1 ever get your stuff back?
23:19 katsmeow-afk the ratings look good as far as i have tested them, even with no pass transistor regulators, the 3.3v psus will supply up to 5v at 5amps with only 3/4 v ripple, the 5v can supply 8v at 9amps , etc
23:19 katsmeow-afk stuff back?
23:22 EzCyclone1 sounds good
23:22 katsmeow-afk what stuff?
23:22 EzCyclone1 yeah your mill or something. They turned to shitheads on you and you were having dog issues with them.
23:23 katsmeow-afk the mill is still layng on it side out in the woods
23:23 katsmeow-afk still having dog issues
23:23 EzCyclone1 damn was hoping they were gone by now
23:26 katsmeow-afk got a couple pics to upload
23:26 EzCyclone1 ok
23:28 katsmeow-afk http://designerthinking.com/images/benchpsu/DSCF2987m.jpg http://designerthinking.com/images/benchpsu/DSCF2988m.jpg http://designerthinking.com/images/benchpsu/DSCF2989m.jpg
23:28 katsmeow-afk boring pics
23:28 katsmeow-afk the TO-220 drivers for the TO-218 TIP35/36 pairs on the bigegr heatsinks
23:34 EzCyclone1 ha ha, those are just sexy.
23:34 EzCyclone1 Where do you get all your parts?
23:34 katsmeow-afk some from scrap frm recycling place, some from ebay
23:35 katsmeow-afk the lettle brass sinks on the TO-220's came from the insides of some 300 cable boxes i got at scrap
23:35 katsmeow-afk the colored wire was thrown out by somone
23:36 katsmeow-afk nuts/screws from Fastenal
23:36 katsmeow-afk heatsink goop from Mouser
23:36 katsmeow-afk the rest from bottom feeding on ebay
23:36 EzCyclone1 got ya
23:36 EzCyclone1 lol
23:46 EzCyclone1 sup Atak?
23:46 Atak hey whats up
23:46 EzCyclone1 relaxin, you?
23:47 Atak same, watching intervention with my gf in bed
23:47 EzCyclone1 fun. getting kind of hungry myself.
23:47 katsmeow-afk what is your gf doing in bed that needs intervention?
23:48 Atak lol
23:48 EzCyclone1 ouch!
23:55 EzCyclone1 Atak, you working on anything lately?
23:56 Atak well i ordered some ti launchpads and been playing with some tinkerforge bricks from tinkerforge.com
23:57 katsmeow-afk how does the Ti compare to the avr?
23:57 Atak they finally made their wifi extension available
23:57 ace4016 kats, the TI launchpad board uses a 32bit ARM Cortex M3 processor
23:57 ace4016 so...beats out an 8-bit MCU :P
23:58 Atak not sure yet but i hear they are pretty good. they use very little power consumption
23:58 Atak i hear the ide is kind of complicated at first
23:58 ace4016 i ordered two launchpads if it's the $5 pre-launch dev boards you're talking about
23:58 Atak yup
23:58 ace4016 yea, will be fun playing with
23:58 katsmeow-afk oh, i meant the lil 8bit cpus they have
23:59 Atak #43oh is the channel for them, pretty friendly place
23:59 katsmeow-afk my brain shut off early tonite
23:59 Atak i REALLY like tinkerforge
23:59 ace4016 i have some atmel ARM chips too...but just the chips
23:59 e4016 pets
23:59 tsmeow-afk purrs slowly and qui
23:59 Atak its not like most microcontroller stuff where you program at a low level but you control everything at high level languages like python, java, php, etc
